Is anyone able to confirm whether Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Original Soundtrack releases tomorrow/today (Sep 30)? The Extended Edition has been pushed back to Nov 22, but maybe someone on here has pre-ordered it?

As example, for Link's Awakening or the Oracle tracks could that be difficult.
Link's Awakening has four composers. And I found so far no information about who has composed which song.

TheRewster
10-01-2016, 12:18 AM
Could you perhaps improvise? I've seen rips that will put all four composers for a game under the "Artist" field for each track. You could do something like that for Link's Awakening and Oracle of Seasons/Ages.

MrRom92

I'm not personally picky about that stuff, I'd probably default to Koji Kondo for any unknown tracks since he composed most of the main themes and change it later if necessary. That said, I know Veg loves to get this stuff perfect which is admirable, so I can be patient. There's not much new here anyway :P thanks a million in advance for coming through yet again! Will definitely download this one when it's up. If you've listened to it in the meantime, any initial thoughts on the sound quality?

@the VGMdb Update: That's not _exactly_ what Vegeta wants to know, but maybe he accept it?

Link's Awakening
Composed by: Kazumi Totaka, Minako Hamano, and Kozue Ishikawa
(DX): Yuichi Ozaki
Okay, seems that Yuichi Ozaki has composed the Color Dungeon, but what's about the Others?

Disc 1

The Legend of Zelda (1~5) : Koji Kondo
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (6~12) : Akito Nakatsuka
A Link to the Past (13~17) : Koji Kondo
Link’s Awakening / Link's Awakening DX (18~20): Kazumi Totaka, Minako Hamano, and Kozue Ishikawa
(DX): Yuichi Ozaki
Ocarina of Time / Ocarina of Time 3D (21~35): Koji Kondo
(3D) : Mahito Yokota and Takeshi Hama
Majora’s Mask / Majora's Mask 3D (36~39) : Koji Kondo and Toru Minegishi
(3D) : Mahito Yokota and Naoto Kubo
Oracle of Ages / Seasons (40~42) : Minako Adachi
Wind Waker / Wind Waker HD (43~52): Kenta Nagata, Hajime Wakai, Toru Minegishi, and Koji Kondo

Disc 2

Four Swords Adventures (1~10) : Koji Kondo and Asuka Ota
(Navi Trackers): Akito Nakatsuka, Yuichi Ozaki, and Masami Yone
Twilight Princess / Twilight Princess HD (11~14): Toru Minegishi, Asuka Ota, Koji Kondo, and Mahito Yokota
Phantom Hourglass (15~17) : Kenta Nagata and Toru Minegishi
Spirit Tracks (18~20) : Toru Minegishi, Manaka Tominaga, Asuka Ota, and Koji Kondo
Skyward Sword (21~23) : Hajime Wakai, Shiho Fujii, Mahito Yokota, Takeshi Hama, and Koji Kondo
A Link Between Worlds (24~38) : Ryo Nagamatsu
Tri Force Heroes (39~41): Ryo Nagamatsu

Same on Wind Waker or Skyward Sword, for example.
I don't believe that 4(or more) Composer have worked together on every single Track. Or maybe they did? Hmm..

But it would be not easy to find that out. Ask the right Persons and hope of Answer?

RBM

I can assure you guys that with regard to Nintendo soundtracks there has barely been official clarification on who wrote what. Maybe we can dig up composers for some tracks from various sources, but trying to have a complete specific breakdown will only be speculative. The full composer list may be the best way to go for the moment.

Like what tracks are 3D and what tracks are DX .. I don't wanna shove like 4 Composers on each track if they don't belong there.

I was waiting for some VGMdb moderator to clarify this but I'll guess I take it upon myself XD. This is everything I can gather for specific composers on the Zelda soundtrack (please trust me this is legit, I have verified through various sources):

100% confirmed are:
-Composed and arrenged by Koji Kondo: 1.1~1.5, 1.13~1.17, 1.21~1.34, 1.36~1.38, 1.45
-Composed and arranged by Akito Nakatsuka: 1.6~1.12
-Composed by Koji Kondo, arranged by Yuichi Ozaki: 1.19
-Composed by Koji Kondo, arranged by Mahito Yokota: 1.35, 2.12
-Composed by Koji Kondo, arranged by Naoto Kubo: 1.39
-Composed by Koji Kondo, arranged by Minako Adachi: 1.40
-Composed and arranged by Minako Adachi: 1.41~1.42
-Composed and arranged by Kenta Nagata: 1.43~1.44, 1.46~1.47
-Composed and arranged by Hajime Wakai: 1.49
-Composed and arranged by Asuka Ota: 2.01
-Composed by Koji Kondo, arranged by Asuka Ota: 2.04
-Composed by Koji Kondo, arranged by Toru Minegishi: 2.11
-Composed and arranged by Toru Minegishi: 2.13, 2.16, 2.18~2.19
-Composed by Hajime Wakai, arranged by Takeshi Hama: 2.21
-Composed by Koji Kondo, arranged by Ryo Nagamatsu: 2.24, 2.26~2.28, 2.30~2.31, 2.36~2.37
-Composed and arranged by Ryo Nagamatsu: 2.25, 2.29, 2.32~2.33, 2.35, 2.38~2.41
-Composed by Akito Nakatsuka, arranged by Ryo Nagamatsu: 2.34

Not confirmed are:
1.18, 1.20 (Kazumi Totaka, Minako Hamano and/or Kozue Ishikawa)
1.48, 1.50~1.52 (Kenta Nagata, Hajime Wakai, Toru Minegishi and/or Koji Kondo)
2.02~2.03, 2.05~2.08 (Koji Kondo and/or Asuka Ota)
2.09~2.10 (Akito Nakatsuka, Yuichi Ozaki and/or Masami Yone)
2.14 (Toru Minegishi, Asuka Ota, Koji Kondo and/or Mahito Yokota)
2.15, 2.17 (Kenta Nagata and/or Toru Minegishi)
2.20 (Toru Minegishi, Manaka Tominaga, Asuka Ota and/or Koji Kondo)
2.22~2.23 (Hajime Wakai, Shiho Fujii, Mahito Yokota, Takeshi Hama, and/or Koji Kondo)

This "not confirmed" songs mean that we don't know who is/are the specific composer/s who worked on the songs because Nintendo has never clarified it officially, so we should either put everyone here or just mark it as "unknown".

I hope I have helped you, Vegeta!

I think that the not confirmed ones are a true PITA due to lack of any official confirmation/source...

Wondering how that will be managed...but even if something is set on stone at VGMdb, it's bound to change in future releases for sure (years to come, though)

I always hate when Nintendo wants to be obscure just for the sake of being obscure...

So I'm finally starting to rip the zelda 30th anniversary album.. I tried to tag it as best as I could. Came into some confusion about the 3D version tracks, but someone had clarified it up for me, and I'm assuming the people that worked on the 3D version would be considered Arrangers in this case (I could be wrong, but at this point I'm tired of waiting)... I hope to have it up soon, but not sure how long its going to take.

Good to hear, Vegeta! (I've been lurking for a while)

I logged in to say that it's likely the credits given for the DX and 3D versions could be Audio Supervisors, as in the developers looking after converting the music to the new hardware. Can't recall any specific cases, but I know I've seen the credit for "Arrangement" in a few Nintendo releases turn out to be something like that.

Anyway, I'm really curious how they handled the Tri Force Heroes tunes - two of them, at least - with regards to including the "totem" variations.

Initial thoughts - I only jumped around tracks a bit but SQ is decent. Of course it's the best we have yet for those skyward sword songs. But only 3 songs! Why not save the staff roll (which is largely just rehashing themes you've already heard 40 other times in this set) for the real dedicated soundtrack, if and when it ever comes out, and instead put in something more memorable in its place. Like the skyloft theme or whatever.
And why end the set on a random boss theme? It seems rather anti climactic.. would've been a great place to put, you know... a staff roll track. Or at least some kind of closer

Glad it came out just think it could have had a better overall balance. Big emphasis on soundtracks that are still readily available. You can't possibly tell me that dragon roost island (especially the inferior HD version) needed to be on this set over Skyloft's theme

Does anyone here know (It's just something you say, I'm sure someone knows) if taking a 44100HZ - 24 bit FLAC file down from 24 bit - 16 bit would hurt the file's quality in anyway or make it sound worse or be considered an inaccurate way of doing it since it was 24bit in it's original state. Obviously it's natural that some detail of the sound will be lost jumping from 24 - 16 but other then any obvious thing like that is there something else?

I just want the tracks to be in 16 bit instead that's all but I have this certain album only in 24bit 44100hz. So would it be considered an O.K thing to do to take it down to 16 bit or is that a big NO NO quality wise?

Will it play like any other native 16 bit soundtrack or will it be worse since it down from 24 to 16?

VyseLegend

Chances are you aren't using top quality audio gear that can take full advantage of 24 bit anyway, so its not a big deal. But most music these days released in 24 is also released in 16-bit separately, but down-sampling one to the other is a different process than producing it from its source, so the quality might be reduced or altered.

By the way, if that guy from earlier wants to bitch to me about the spectrum analysis again, just know that I bought this myself off of ototoy and this is the best quality possibly available, and hasn't been run through anything at all, these are the original files. I realize Falcom has a weird mastering process, what with some songs being cutoff and some not.

It's all about peace of mind, i definitelly can't ABX 16bit downsampled tracks from 24bit ones with decent gear (I use a dual PCM1704UK 24 bit dac) but some ppl seem to do. In the end just trust your ears.

Everyone has his stance, I don't dither because I don't have disk constraints and while not grasping the difference i want to be as close to the source as possible.

- The usefulness of 24 bit depth for listening purposes is yet to be proven
- 24->16 bits per sample converted files will play absolutely fine. Of course information is discarded along the way, but the human ear is what it is
- You can answer your question yourself 100% objectively with ABX tests. It's easy.

Starbound Complete Soundtrack 1.4 Update (FLAC)

This compilation contains the following:

"Starbound: The Orchestral OST" by Curtis Schweitzer (tracks 1-59),
"Selections from Starbound" by Solatrus (tracks 60-65),
"Weep Not, My Child" by Curtis Schweitzer (track 66),
and as of June 13, 2019 "Starbound Bounty Hunter Update (Original Soundtrack)" by Curtis Schweitzer (tracks 67-70).
At some point Curtis Schweitzer updated his original upload to include two new tracks. Therefore it is recommended to download this new version with the new Starbound 1.4 release included.
Album art for both albums and single plus logo images.

"Starbound: The Orchestral OST" was easy to get, but "Selections from Starbound" proved quite difficult since Solatrus removed it from his Bandcamp page (presumably once the game went full release, or sometime before?). It was only through an awesome guy on the Starbound forums that had bought the album before its removal that I can provide you with them today, as Solatrus' tracks are impossible to otherwise acquire in FLAC (you can still get them with the rest of the album as MP3s on Steam for $5, however). "Weep Not, My Child" is a single featured in the finished game that was only released when the game launched (July 22, 2016), and IS NOT included with the Steam soundtrack release.

It is absolutely true. The same way that if I applied custom EQ to a cd rip, it is no longer a lossless cd rip.

Although downsampling may be part of the production process for a particular digital release, you can still have a lossless version of that particular release. That's how the data was published.

Many people would argue that they can't hear the difference between flac and 320k, and "why keep data we can't hear"… you see what a slippery slope this is?

Of course anyone is free to do whatever they please with their own files. But just because something uses a lossless encoding doesn't mean the source audio is in fact lossless, especially if data is *lost* - no matter how inaudible or insignificant.

Is anyone familiar with fsb files and how to work with them? I see some utilities on the web but I'm afraid I don't really know what I'm doing with them, or can't seem to make them work. I have the fsb files that contain the audio and sounds for Pokmon Go, and I'd like to convert them to WAV (then flac) or whichever their native format is. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Once I have everything tagged and organized I'll surely post them up here

Like I explained before, I think its better to keep the audio in the condition it was published in, unless its for specific purposes.

Well, use Lossless like wav/flac/ape/etc. give you the feeling, you have the real thing, I guess.
I don't care if there's no/not much hear-different between flac and 320mp3.
But if the rip ripped in higher quali than the source, that's "meh"! (Does EAC say you, what's the source-quality is?)

Many people would argue that they can't hear the difference between flac and 320k, and "why keep data we can't hear"… you see what a slippery slope this is?
There is no slippery slope, it is about the human body and science. To give a simple example, the human ear can hear (approximately) sound in 20-20KHz frequency range, anyone saying he needs hi-res (> 44KHz) audio files for the purpose of hearing beyond 22KHz sound (see: Nyquist–Shannon sampling theorem) would be lying to him/herself.
You are merely arguing about the meaning of lossless : lossless to the human ear, or lossless to the best copy of the original material there is ;)

It is a slippery slope because now people who claim to hear no difference in lossy codecs, based on what you're saying, can now call their files "lossless"... the argument doesn't hold up. Luckily this has absolutely nothing to do with the human ear or subjective opinions, etc. it's pure fact and we are dealing with data here. Lossless is lossless and anything else isn't. It's that simple! But again anyone is free to do whatever they want to their own files

That's the same discussion I was initially looking at. I noticed there are some utilities there but I've no idea how to use them. I tried running both utilities in command line but they threw errors. If I wanted to create my own conversions from the fsb files, how would I do that?

I didn't realize the music was stored as a lossy encoding... like I said, I'm not familiar with the file format. But I think it would still be a good idea to store the source audio in a lossless container to prevent further encoding/loss. Better to convert them to flac than convert them to MP3

Like I explained before, I think its better to keep the audio in the condition it was published in, unless its for specific purposes.

This is pretty much the definition of "Lossless" that this thread should operate under. The recurring arguments here about the perceivable difference regarding lossless vs lossy audio relies on anecdotal accounts that (while valid to an extent) doesn't take into consideration other factors like hardware setup & one's own hearing capabilities.

If someone were to declare that they couldn't hear a difference between the flac version of a music track against its 320k bitrate mp3 version and advocate for the mp3 file for the sake of space efficiency, it maybe true that they couldn't hear a difference but would that be due to only the audio files?

Its not as if there's a standardized hardware setup (ala Apple computers) that everyone must follow; some of us have high-end headphones, some of us only have the crummy earbuds that came with our phones (if we're lucky to even get that), some have high-end portable DAC/amplifiers, and some use the ones on their phones/laptops. If we were to conduct a "hardware census" for everyone on just this single thread, its safe to assume that we wouldn't find two members with the same hardware setup.

All that and we haven't even gotten to the fact that everyone has different hearing capabilities; some of us possess musical training that allow us to pick up on frequencies that the layman may not notice, some of us are in our late teens/early 20's which should allow use to hear the full 20-20hkz frequency range (even at this age range, some individuals hear better than others) while some of us are entering our 30's where our hearing ability begins to decline.

With all these factors in play, the one thing that never changes is the data present in the audio files. When 2 spectrograms of lossless and lossy versions of the same music track show a distinct difference between the two due to missing frequencies in the lossy version, how can anyone not see the value the lossless version of the music track possess. Even if you can't audibly discern the difference, for archival and preservation purposes the lossless version is scientifically distinct enough from its lossy counterpart to merit its validity as a audio format.

I honestly wish everyone would just upload wavs, at least relative to how things are now it would be an improvement. In my experience, everything I've ever wanted to download from SoundCloud was either not available to download, or only available to download as MP3. People just don't know any better

More on topic, if it pleases everybody… I actually found a link with wavs converted from the fsbs. I however would still like to do the conversion myself as I don't know what kind of settings may or may not have been configured for the conversion that was already done. There may have been settings that alter the audio, or control the looping, etc.. like I said, I don't know what converting involves or what the tools are like when they are in use.

Also, is it correct that Junichi Masuda did all the main music, like the walking theme or the encounter theme?

Oh, even weirder. I got a nice lot of discs in the mail today, completely unrelated to VGM or soundtracks at all... turns out there's 2 video game related things in here though

One is the Nintendo/rareware "Killer Cuts" CD from killer instinct on the snes... I believe this one is common and I'm sure it's probably been on a previous page somewhere, but I can re-upload a new rip if anyone would like me to

There's also a disc with catalogue number CSK 8438. It looks like some basic 90's era music sampler but the disc has some logos on the side that caught my attention. Universal interactive, naughty dog,PlayStation, and crash bandicoot. I did some research online and it appears it was given away with pre-orders for the original crash bandicoot! Not sure if it's on vgmdb. It's not strictly video game music and I'm not sure if there is any video game music on it yet, but it is definitely video game related. Any interest in having this one uploaded here? (Or is it allowed?)

I can't do scans but in this case there really isn't much to scan anyway. My disc came in a black card sleeve. The discogs link shows a jewel case but no artwork of any kind, so I don't know which is correct. Maybe someone here preordered the game in 1996 and still remembers? Lol. For what it's worth I've never heard of a single one of these artists (and I've yet to actually listen so I don't know if there are unlisted crash music or Sfx hidden on this thing)

Here's the discogs link with the picture and tracklist. https://www.discogs.com/Various-Crash-Bandicoot-Compilation-Giveaway/release/7964853

On the note of giveaways, that reminds me... there was a Pokmon cd given away at spaceworld 97 and also given away with some N64 purchases that year.. I've been after this one for a few years but haven't managed to import it. Does anyone have this one? I have almost every other Pokmon cd issued in japan betwen 97-2000, not exactly video game related as most are more related to the anime, but of course a lot of the music draws heavily from the original red/blue games! I guess they may count as arrangements. I can upload any of those as well if there is any interest even though it is not strictly video game music.

also, a bit of a random question for Vegeta + all the other EAC users here... have you noticed any difference in Pre-Emphasis detection behavior in the latest version?

I've only used versions from after they were legally required to remove PE detection... so as far as i'm familiar with it, it never detected any of my PE discs and I'd have to manually enter it in the cue sheet myself.

So imagine my surprise when I tried ripping 2 discs which showed "Yes" in the PE field! and it even correctly inserted the pre flags at the appropriate spots in the cue sheet!

I didn't see anything in the changelog to indicate that they brought this feature back in the last update.. and I didn't see anyone mention it anywhere else online. Secret feature maybe? lol

MrRom92

What were those two discs?

The first disc was stereophile test cd 2, which had a couple of tracks with PE

The other one, actually the reason I bought this lot of discs, was Sony YEDS 1 - a Japanese "tech demo" of sorts manufactured before the official oct. 1982 release of the CD format in Japan. This entire disc (as well as most of the 1982 launch-titles and many titles from around that time period) is completely mastered with pre-emphasis.

It's a very rare disc that has a high selling price... when it manages to turn up for sale anyway. Unfortunately, this disc is so battered beyond belief I wasn't able to get a clean rip of even a single track. I even took it to a local game shop so it could be resurfaced - with really incredible results by the way. But the damage on the label side of the disc is just too much to overcome. I did a burst rip in eac which took forever and every single track had so many errors that not even CueTools could correct it. Sad. Really wanted to preserve this piece of history. I couldn't find any other lossless rips floating around.

Anyway, just to check that I'm not imagining things, later this week I'm going to try to re-rip a disc (Denon Audio Technical disc) that I know has pre-emphasis on some tracks but definitely did not register as such when I initially ripped it some time ago.

It's a test/tone disc released in Japan, 1984, actually one of the most useful digital audio check discs to this day. It has a variety of tracks mastered both with PE and without. 99 tracks too. Manually editing that cue sheet took me a while, I certainly didn't want to do it and wouldn't have done it if I didn't have to :P

I haven't used anything past 1.0 b3 for EAC so I couldn't tell you about the latest version. I won't update until it is necessary. Like how 0.99 didn't have Log Checksum, but 1.0 b3 does.. that was good enough for me to go with an update as being able to verify valid rips via Log Checksum .. that way any new rips I do people can be sure they are legit.

You don't tend to see pre-emphasis on anything other than truly ancient CDs (though I've heard there are modern exceptions, and not just 1:1 re-issues, weirdly).

I even took it to a local game shop so it could be resurfaced - with really incredible results by the way.Yeah, it's actually amazing how badly damaged the underside of a CD can be and still be recoverable (I've found my 360's HD-DVD drive to be remarkably good at ripping badly scuffed discs). If, though, there's...
damage on the label side of the discyou're pretty much fucked at that stage. Agreed; sad.

I didn't see anything in the changelog to indicate that they brought this feature back in the last update..They didn't announce it when they removed it, so that's "business as usual", I guess? It's a little strange they removed it in the first place, I doubt Sony/Philips were going to be kicking down their door over it, but open source projects tend to stick to GNU etc.

Anyway, just to check that I'm not imagining things, later this week I'm going to try to re-rip a disc (Denon Audio Technical disc) that I know has pre-emphasis on some tracks but definitely did not register as such when I initially ripped it some time ago.

Not to mention WAV cannot have tags.Well... that's not entirely accurate. WAV files can contain chunks of metadata (including but not limited to ID3), as per the RIFF standard. Whether or not your audio playback software of choice chooses to read that metadata is another matter. If you want to go deeper down the rabbit hole, WAV files can contain compressed audio, too, though in practice I've never seen this.

You can't control when you share , do you understand that? If not, stop sharing ( but you share almost nothing so it's not a problem I think).

An unofficial fan-made album can be found here (Thread 210949)!

The soundtrack to Dreamfall Chapters, digitally available after release of the fifth and final episode via bandcamp. While a soundtrack for Book One: Reborn has been released in 2014,
this compilation features music from each episodes with 48 tracks in total by British composer Simon Poole.
In February 2015, Poole's soundtrack for Dreamfall Chapters Book 1: Reborn received a nomination in the category "Best Original Composition/Gaming" by Music+Sound Awards UK
(eventual winner was the E3 trailer music for 'Valiant Hearts').

The soundtracks for the first installments of the series (The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey) can be found in my personal music thread in the Video Game Soundtracks section.

Your upload? lol, When shared , it is no more your upload, it's mine, it's our, you dream guy, and it's just to help, I don't care about this stuff, just another album lost among the rest. So feel free to reup YOUR stuff lol And to be clear I m not telling it's my stuff except when it's my own CD for the rest I never mention or rarely the source and I nerver re share an album when the source tells me to do not, I respect that. You can't control when you share , do you understand that? If not, stop sharing ( but you share almost nothing so it's not a problem I think).

The only thing that upsets me is that the duty of reuploading was mine, because it was my upload and I was planning to do so. It was my rip, that I uploaded for the sake of sharing, and it's kinda upsetting that someone else wants to take credit for it. I am pretty aware of what you say and don't deny you're right, but it's a bit rude when the uploader himself is saying that he's gonna reupload it. Also don't take merits from me, I do upload and share stuff you can look my threads started. It's just less than you.

My bad for getting offended, because I just realized, you would have made the thing much easier to me. I could make a new account, and put the link you uploaded to my new account easily, with the MEGA ability to put an external link to your uploads easily.

What did you not understand with my sentence? no share even in PM regarding the rule.

I thought you meant it could "only" be shared by PM, since you actually told me "PM me" back then in that thread...

There's tons of stuff that can't be shared "in the open" but has always been passed through PMs, hence the confusion :P

No problem ;)

It's a known issue. Email notifications have been disabled, due to a third party hack or whatever where spam messages were being emailed out... so Admin disabled the notification system til it's been fixed.

Real sonic games have at least Jun Senoue, Masato Nakamura, or hell even Howard Drossin some where in there. Given the soundtrack has at least Tomoya Ohtani on it (being that he did some work with SA2).. and I don't recognize any others.. I'm not jumping for Joy.

I have the Sonic Runners soundtracks, but they haven't been released in lossless, have they? All I have are M4A.

Someone has the CD and ripped it in 320K, he will probably rip the FLAC version tomorrow once he read the EAC ripping guide

Out of curiosity, does anyone have a lossless version of Rockman Sound Box 2?
