I agree with much of this, However, you must know that we humans do not posess an infinite order filter which suddently makes the frequencies above 22khz totally inaudible for a human. It is rather an small curvature that eventually goes to floor. THAT small curvature is what some can hear, what some others can't. Remember that the 22khz limit is based on population samples and I'm quite sure it creates a gaussian distribution, which is nowhere near a peak nor close to an impulse.

There are plenty of people in the general public who similarly don't think lossy encoding is a destructive process/can't tell the difference, and would say that it's a waste of hard drive space and for no audible difference. It's that general attitude and lack of interest/standards that makes it so difficult for the people who DO care to get basic redbook-standard versions for a lot of newly released music. It doesn't have to be for everyone but we should have a choice.

Arceles - agreed, the range of human hearing is not as simple as "everyone stops at 22kHz", but to my knowledge no studies have ever found anyone with super-human hearing much beyond this. Most people out of their teens top out below 20kHz. You can do a rough test of this in seconds in Audacity (generate -> tone), if you're curious.

All I can say is that I've worked with and read comments from audio engineers who readily admit to not being able to hear the difference, but have not seen any convincing proof of anyone successfully* ABX'ing 96kHz vs ~48kHz, while I have read plenty of posts on audiophile forums from individuals with "golden ears" who refuse to partake in (or discuss) the double blind test that would simply and easily verify their claims of the "obvious" superiority of 192/24 vs. even 96/24 (or who evade the topic by contrasting [X] SACD release to [Y] CDDA release, i.e. an apples and oranges comparison due to differences in mastering). Draw your own conclusions, and as always, if in doubt - test.

*I am aware of a study where a sizeable group of experts and general public were tested on top-end gear in a suitably acoustically treated environment, and none were able to reliably distinguish between SACD and a 16/44.1 downsample of the same. I can probably dig it up if you're interested.

Nope, that was your head, and you convicing yourself that there's an audible difference.

My experience has been more separation of the sound layers in higher resolution and more headroom (if using headphones...but then, I find myself turning the volume up too loud without realizing it!) I find the added hassle is generally not worth it.

Does anyone have the Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Soundtrack (Risky Beats Edition) by any chance?

I lost my main drive with music due to a crash (physical, it has a huge scratch in the middle of the internal discs...and it was never moved from the same place or received a hit), and recovered lots of that stuff thanks to Vegeta, Hikaru, R.C.S.B., CursedGenesis, zaizaizai and other great members here...

If only BlackJesusChristo was around...need at least 5 of his lossless albums now down...

Guilty Gear Sound Complete Box is here on the forums from another uploader (got it) but the volume is clearly significantly lower than BlackJesusChristo's upload (which I had before the crash), the one I got now includes cue and logs but I'm not sure on how to know if they are proper at all (to know if all the discs are properly ripped)...

How can you know if the volume is lower when you lost the original files??

I'm quite OCD on volume levels on my PC and setup, those tracks were the most I used pretty much everyday, also kept some MP3s of it around (a few, not all!), the sound is really quite lower compared to BlackJesusChristo's upload, so, I wonder if that means something or not for the quality of the rip or if it affects it at all (wish I could compare logs, I can upload them here if someone can check them)

I wouldn't expect much. There are limit to lossless compression :)

Especially if it's more efficient at the default (and already fast) -8 setting. I almost never bother to re-encode cd rips but since those comprise the majority of my collection, I stand to save quite a bit of space with those too. At least going into the future my new rips will be a bit smaller than they would have been otherwise

Also, does anyone have a working link "PERSONA4 DANCING ALL NIGHT Original Soundtrack"? The ones poster are all dead, and the one that comes with the advanced cd comes with a corrupted track.

Just got the Blu-Ray FFXV OST. Quite disappointed that it is only in Stereo. I don't understand why they even put in on Blu-ray if that is the case. The Soundtrack it outstanding though.

The format's kinda fizzled out though, mainly because downloads are so much easier and aren't locked down on disc. I imagine most people who are interested in high resolution stereo audio are already tech savvy enough to deal with downloads from HDtracks or whatever.

Those are rumours, and a huge bullshit at that.

Yeah I personally wouldn't care either way as I'm gonna be getting it on the switch but it would be a huge PR mess if they canceled the game after basically promising it to Wii U owners for 4 years. I'm surprised Yooka Laylee got canned. For a long while, that and Zelda were the only things Wii U owners had left to look forward to. And it was also heavily marketed as a game that was going to be "definitively" experienced on the Wii U, I think that's what the majority of backers chose.



Oh well. Let's look on the bright side.

1. More plausible rumor is going around that Grant Kirkhope is composing the music for the next Mario game (also rumored to be a crossover game with the Rabbids from Ubisoft)


2. 14 days from now I'll have a switch in my hands and I'll get to play Breath of the Wild and other titles we don't even know about yet!

Yikes, yeah that tier for the physical soundtrack is definitely high. There was a lower tier for a download soundtrack that cost significantly less so I'm sure more people backed that one and I doubt there'll be any real difference between the content of the 2. However it's really gotta sting that people backed at �70 to get a physical soundtrack and it's being given away for free with a magazine now!

finally collecting my thoughts from the Switch preview… it's the real deal guys. The thing's incredible. Never imagined I'd have that kind of power in a handheld, and the on-tv gameplay does not disappoint. Pro controller might be a must though. My only real concerns are the pricing and weak launch lineup, I hope that won't prevent it from catching on. Let me know if you've got any questions about it.

Sadly this game only had that "Original Soundtrack Remix" album (with annoying sound effects, voices or even modified versions of what we can hear during the game), so it does not have the untouched (and full) soundtrack we can hear while playing the Biohazard/Resident Evil game.

(I am saying Biohazard because we all know RE is censored, so the music we can hear when the first zombie appears is obviously incomplete in the american version).

Someone once ripped the RE game in MP3, but the background music in most instances is not separated from sound effects and voices. For example, the track: "The Hunter is Coming (00:19)" is simply the same audio you can hear while playing this part, where the first Hunter appears. In the Remix album this track is identified as "17. Mansion: Unexpected Crisis (The Nimble One) ".

I already asked Soundtrackcollector to remove this "Mars Colony Music MCM-10105-2" album, because they are listing the MP3 tracks from the PSX disc, ripped from it.

Also, in the track "Opening: Terror (Darkness Lives)" I have here with me the narrator says at the end "Biohazard", not Resident Evil. It's possible that he says "Resident Evil" in the american version of this album, and I only have the japanese release, I guess.

It should also be noted that the original 1996 game released in JAPAN had a different background music for the FMV intro (before the characters appear in the mansion). This was changed in the Director's Cut version, where we can listen to the same intro from "Resident Evil", yet with the narrator saying "Biohazard".

Would be cool if they had this type of performance on a boxset collection!

They're treble-focused, really good for orchestral work. It's not too heavy on the bass like other Senns I previously had.

MEGASync is so nice, like you just have to right click on your folder/file and then it upload it, something which is really good compared to the GDrive software (talking about it since its the best after MEGA with its 15gb) is that it doesn't fucking restart the upload everytime you close the thing DUDE
