Lets just say we have connoisseurs of sound amongst us.You don't have "connoisseurs", you have people who don't understand anything about audio technology. FLAC produces the same waveform as WAV, the only difference is CPU overhead (and if you can audibly hear a percent or so of extra CPU usage then you've got much bigger issues than "FLAC vs. WAV"). The people who think they can hear the difference are the same ones who buy rocks to put around their CD players (http://www.machinadynamica.com/machina31.htm) and have "disc demagnetisers" and all that snake oil nonsense.

If someone wants to waste their HDD filling it with WAV files then that's their business, but the default for sharing should be FLAC, in my opinion.

They orchestrated the entire soundtrack, but they don't appear to have any plans on releasing it on CD, or even a standalone digital release. :/
I'd love to have the remastered soundtrack on CD as well, with even more tracks. Maybe we'll get lucky, and they release it sometime in the future.

This may be lossless, but tracks 1, 3, 5 & 6 are obviously trans-coded from a compressed source.

You have no idea how much that burns, I WASTED TWO WHOLE BUCKS. TWO! I want one of my dollars back, now in all seriousness I'm curious about buying the CD knowing this disappointing info- 12 bucks to make a gamble in hopes that they're true lossless....hmmm, I'll look into it since they were like that when I bought it, maybe I'll ask him, thanks for the heads up!

Maybe we'll get lucky, and they release it sometime in the future.I hope they'll get around to a CD release, but in the mean time here's the music ripped from the remastered edition (https://mega.co.nz/#!AxoVDLTR!yEmx4uBITgJWnkiOfZGTm1urgzkN0VzkmeJxlsj LzR8). The game uses a proprietary format that is lossy, I extracted them to WAV one by one using SCUMM Revisited and then transcoded to FLAC (obviously transcoding lossy to lossless is a bad thing but under the circumstances there's no real alternative). Filenames have been kept as-is. The majority of the tracks are ambient/incidental, and I've not done any editing for loops etc, if someone else wants to trim it down into more of an album that'd probably be a good thing.

Pretty sure the music on the game disc itself is already compressed, so a lossless rip would just be ironic.

It's probably not the most correct place to ask this, but I didn't think this warranted its own thread and I wouldn't know where else to ask... So, with that said...

Does anyone know of a release of the Pokmon HeartGold & SoulSilver soundtrack that's of the same quality as the Super Music, but properly looped? (Looping once, meaning the song plays twice.) I'd really appreciate if someone has it. I already have a looped version, but it doesn't sound to be the same quality as the Super Music release.

Funny coincidence, I'm actually working on that game's OSV, please wait a few weeks since once again, my schedule has been keeping me from doing this kind of thing as often- I'm sure it'll sound exactly the same or slightly superior to the OST, It's looped too so no worries.

I'll let you know how I'm doing with it and I'll send an example file for you to try out, until then!

Thank you! That's awesome! If it's not too much trouble, could you send me a PM when you're ready? I'm afraid I don't visit these forums too often, and I might miss it if it's not in a PM.

Is it sourced from the 2SF? I personally prefer the sound of the 2SF than the official soundtrack, though would love to know of alternative. How's the Super Music release sound to everyone?

I'm doing it from an NCSF, It's slightly better than both the SMC and 2SF imo, I've already completed the Black and White soundtracks and will be posting them shortly, they're just sharper and more 'in your ear', my ears hate that weird echo-ish sound that the SMC has, it's just grating for me- but I'll tell you one thing, the OSV isn't for everyone.

Found this one through vndb's higher rated selections, and both this and Grisaia had me thinking that every single protagonist was a complete dick who deserved any misgivings God might throw his way. Though I have some misgivings about the VN itself, I won't go into it here cause it'll turn into a rant. Onto the music:

90% of the music features some arrangement (and sometimes a VERY liberal arrangement) of classical music. It's not particularly in your face, and I've got quite a few tracks from this soundtrack in "while I draw" playlist.

Just a quick disclaimer though: 1-07 いま、最高か is a track to be wary of. SO HELP ME, if I hear that horribly, goofy, chinese firedrill of a song I may shoot myself.

But don't let that scare you away from this soundtrack though, it's a step away from what you'd expect from VGM (if you consider this VGM) and classical pieces are pretty consistent, even when they're liberally arranged.
Note: I derped and forgot to include the .cue, w/e not like that's a big deal.

The first 5 discs of this Box are all vocal albums. They feature the same handful of songs featuring a different vocalist for each disc. My personal take on these discs is that even if you like vocal albums this can get redundant. The 6th disc features the game's BGM soundtrack, which has a much more pleasant variety to it. Track 6-17 "Calling" is the sorta short and sweet melodic stuff that I'm a sucker for, check it out.

So I finished this VN relatively recently, and I rather enjoyed it, despite it digging itself into an explicit and grotesque niche. It wasn't terribly long either, so I got through it in only a few sessions. It's a horror story, and as such the music is jarring at times, but there's some very nice, if somewhat eerie, pieces mixed in. Give it a listen, and maybe pickup the VN itself. But it isn't something to read while there's someone watching over your shoulder if you know what I mean...

This is what I'm reading at the moment. Finished Extra and Unlimited, and now I'm most of the way (I think) through Alternative. I can say that the protagonist this time around becomes much less detestable as time goes on... but we'll see how this thing ends.
I also couldn't help but keep comparing this to a certain anime series, drawing all kinds of parallels.

Hey thanks for the Muv-Luv music.

I loved the music in that game.

This VN depressed the hell out of me multiple times.

I actually had to stop and come back later it affected me so strongly.

It's one of the best I've ever played.

Hell I still get depressed just thinking about it.

I probably should keep my commentary to myself until I actually finish Alternative, but Extra and Unlimited are don't really feel even like complete thoughts until you get to that 3rd installment. So my brain was kinda starved for explanations and closure, long before I got it. The pacing seems very stop n' go in the earlier segments. We'll see how this thing ends though. Endings of long stories like this are typically a hugely defining moment in how you resolve your feelings. Seeing how many people tell me how much they enjoyed this, I'm expecting fireworks in my finale. =D

Oh fuck, forgot the whole "when you cut a tree down, plant a new one" philosophy. Muv-Luv really puts the "visual" in visual novel. That fucking camera! They managed to make the on screen characters seem so animated, develop a sense of space and distance, that 3d sound-scape, and the characters have fucking back sprites! Hugely impressed on the technical side of things.

Anyway, the music, yeah. That's been solid the whole way through. Here's the remaining albums pertaining strictly to the main series. There's still the spin offs and the vocal collection to cover, and I'll get those up when I get a chance.

Again, none of these are my rips:

Quick question: Does the NA version include the Simple and Clean English version? I wonder if there even is a NA version because I keep trying to Google it and all I find is the JP version with Hikari. If you know the answer and where I can buy the NA version to rip and upload, let me know! :D

Yes. See: 7243-5-80453-21 | Kingdom Hearts Original Soundtrack - VGMdb (http://vgmdb.net/album/5059) There's a NA print with the same tracklisting; never did bother to see if the catalog numbers were the same though.

I was actually wondering if there was an NA release version of the 1.5 and/or 2.5 HD ReMIX soundtracks. However, the NA versions of the original games soundtracks work just as well because I don't think neither Hikari (Simple and Clean) or Passion were reworked.

Hi, could anyone please share a loseless FLAC or any type of loseless rip of TIME TRAVELERS? This is a wonderful art I've always wanted to have in loseless.

NCRS-0008~10 | TIME TRAVELERS Original Soundtrack - VGMdb

I'm archiving it right now, I don't know when I can upload it. It takes a long time even on MEGA, and I'm about to go to work. I can have it midnight tonight (10 hours) if, and only if, I remember to do it. Once I get off work, my usual course of action is resting or finding something to eat

Ebay, I found the problem.

You're welcome.

Also, HS/SS is taking longer than I thought. I swear to god these unlooped tracks will be the end of me.

Mainly because I use the time to help tag faster, I guess this is going to be a "Final Destination, No Handicaps" Sort of thing, alright- I can do this, sure, yeah, cool, great, just...be patient.

At least there are tracks that aren't in the SMC to further the confusion, yay...(christ)

Not that I'm trying to defend eBay, but I fail to see eBay being "the problem"
Over the last 9 years, I have bought and sold nearly 700+ orders, from many countries around the world, and only rarely, very rarely, would encounter a problem, and all but one instance have I ever lost money, a total amount of $14.
eBay isn't "a problem" its a service that lets people from all over the world to buy and sell items. All eBay does is take usually a 10% fee for what is pretty much just advertising. The rest is handled by the buyer, the seller, and the choice of shipping service. Very rarely is an order more than that. If you ask me what "The problem" is; its either the seller itself which seems to have a pretty solid feedback rating of 99.9% 48,000 with only 3 negative feedback in the last year, or its the choice of using Royal Mail service to ship internationally. If Royal Mail is anything like United States Postal Service, fuckups are bound to happen.

If your experience with eBay has been so bad that you blame a service that just a median between buyer and seller, then you must really suck at online shopping.

There is no album/soundtrack to download, you can only rip it from the rom/game.

Being a N64 game, its likely in MIDI format of sorts, it could probably somehow be converted to lossless, but that'd be pointless as you're just taking a small file of a few bytes and blowing it up literally several million fold.
You could try googling "Rip audio from n64 rom"

So this one is a proper release (of the OST) by From Software. This time it's 2 CDs and tracks are full length, not cut off like they were on a single-disc release (http://vgmdb.net/album/41676).

I'm curious, what does everyone here use to verify and check if the lossless files are indeed lossless and not upscaled lossy files?

I use a mixture of auCDtect Task Manager (for some reason it works but I always get "ERROR" on the Status column) to make sure the files have a high CDDA percentage and then I use Speck to see their spectogram and make sure there are no cutoff points.

Of course, If the album has a log of the rip, then we are good to go!

What do you all think of this method? What do you guys do?

There's a track that I really need.If you just want a recording of one track you're probably best off running an emulator and capturing the audio in-game. Some emulators have an audio logging feature, if they don't then use Audacity or something similar. Should be short work.

I just use the freeware program "SPEK" that gives a spectral analysis. There are probably better ways, but it's hard to argue with freeware that works.

Hey there, good job on the soundtracks. However, I have some concern for the first soundtrack since a few of them are not working in the FLAC format, and the fact that I do not really like their choices for track names- Oh well- I'll edit them on Foobar that way they are less offensive.

Also, don't forget this will work only for CD release, Lossless Gamerip and lossless digital release can't be used that way, this is why I use SPEK and.......... my earphones ! :p

Then, only audio and spectrum experience can really determine if something goes lossy somewhere, and even so, sometime its can be very "strange", take a look about this :

(http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=285520002MetropolisStreetRacerOpenin gflac.png)

Seems lossless eh ? Well yes, the transcode was lossless, but the compression before was lossy (meaning, they did use a lossy mastering then put this in the CD audio part of the GD-ROM disc) luckily, this is the only track that got lossy to lossless (and even so, how the spectrum go so high ?).

Maybe because this track is used at the same time of the intro video ? who know ? But for sure, when I will release this Gamerip, people will be very intrigued to see a perfect lossless spectrum when the output sound is like a really bad lossy 96kb......

I use Adobe Audition and you can zoom in
Or Audacity, SoX (both free). I have been told that SoX can programmatically generate spectrals - which is more convenient than having to manually open files in an editor.

I KNEW Nintendo had to release that perf soundtrack, but why did they take so goddamn much?

If I had to guess why, it probably has something to do with the DLC content. Considering the last bit of DLC is not getting released until May, it makes sense why it took this long. On the flip side, I guess that means there will probably be no more new content for the game after May.

I think VEGETA was pointing out that a Japanese version has more value. As we all know Japanese prints is the granddaddy of all region prints, even if the Japanese version is a reprint officially it still has such a higher value.

So getting the Japanese version seems like the better choice to obtain in a collection.

I can't believe the Mega Man 2 Medley that was "promised" (included with a few other select songs in the track previews list when it was announced) wasn't included in this soundtrack. Nintendo sure has a strange taste when it comes to choosing good things to include in a bundle. It's the Ambassador Program (3DS) all over again.

Yeah, no Mega Man music at all I noticed on the soundtrack (on either disc).

I'm not too concerned, though. For all Capcom's efforts at ignoring giving the Blue Bomber actual games, they sure have been doing a bang-up job in recent years of releasing soundtracks for all the Mega Man games!

I was also hoping for at least one god damn Sonic track. Seriously, the music selection seems like a self-centered selection merely to promote Nintendo's biggest series. They wouldn't be caught dead promoting SEGA or Capcom for free.

I like to offer the purest source I can get my hands on and make it available to the community! Some like other lossless formats available to them as some would be use too from the many members here on the forum. If said person chooses my downloads I let them make the decision to whatever format they want to convert on their own pcs. As for the 10% RR, I like to cover myself from upload or download malfunctions because I had this happened to me in the past and want to be considerate of others who have enjoyed my uploads.

I just started organizing my music collection (1.3TB), Its not as grand compared to some of you power-players, but still, god help me.

I`m around 48 GB`s (mostly FLAC, so actually not a lot of tracks) + a dozen DVD`s of Mp3, and that`s after years of collecting various OST`s that are just to my taste. But organizing 1.3 TB? Force be with you.

And yeah, who are the "persons-to-go-to" about the quality of music, spectrum, cutoff etc.? I might have something for sharing, that I haven`t seen around FFShrine, buuuut... I need a confirmation about quality.

Thanks for this, I will read it thoroughly, seems to be just what I need. Just to point out that the tracks are stored within a file, with .wav extension, playable immediately, but the game is pre-2000.
Just convert them to flac with foobar or something.

This may also help you:

The cutoff frequencies are not law. Flac can go all the way to 22KHz, spectrals may look lossy because of filters used, I've even seen some mp3's whose spectrals show up to 22KHz

The blocks on the other hand are a much better indicator. I haven't seen them appear in piano or synthesizer tracks, but I suspect they can appear if the track was recorded or mastered poorly, lossy sourced, certain filters used, etc.

Edit: Made an album of some spectrograms. http://imgur.com/a/HFgFi Gives a few examples of some tricky ones. Also has those "up to 22KHz" mp3's I was talking about, which I think is only achievable by somehow disabling the cutoff filter during encoding

Do my eyes deceive me? My fellow vgm audiophile from GBATemp! Didn't know you came on this site so frequently! :DI prefer audio-enthusiast to audiophile. Audiophile is a condescending term that "some", not all, would use to talk down or feel superior to others.

"Whats that? Your Ultra-premium Headphones and super-high performance tube amp didn't cost more than a new mid-sized sedan? Well then I guess you're not a true audiophile like me"

The height of my equipment is pretty much a few random amps and dacs (which now i dont even need anymore) and a pair of Sennheiser 598's I bought for $90 as a black-friday deal. I couldn't tell much difference from my 650's and AKGK 7-1's so I just sold them and kept the cheaper pair. Anyone who'd call themselves an audiophile might chortle at that statement, but to me, the price isn't worth the performance once I hit a happy medium, unless I want to invest thousands just so I can listen to Yoshi's Island in a more-expensive way.

And this site I check about 5 times a day, its gbatemp i visit every now and then.

Audiophile rant

Insisting to differentiate from a stereotyped term is silly. Be confident and proud. Show them who's the real deal.

Actually it should be me to question myself if I even qualify as one. I don't spend for luxurious equipments but just my laptop's built-in average-joe soundcard and a pair of cheap Edifier H185 earbuds. I don't tweak EQ or apply any "special effect enhancements" at all but just roll with "default" settings as much as possible, because I prefer the sounds unaltered. But I do devote my interest into fiddling with my lossless selection (because I don't really "collect" everything), codecs and other software applications, and a little bit of amateur music production, etc. I'm quite aware what I'm in the scene for.

I prefer audio-enthusiast to audiophile. Audiophile is a condescending term that "some", not all, would use to talk down or feel superior to others.

Whereas I do agree on your audio reasoning, as I do the same (I have a dash-in car stereo as AMP and my PHA-2 as DAC, as digital to analog convertion is way more important than amplification for me) Audiophile is for the better or worse, the proper term. In spanish is often "anglicised", i.e. Audiophile -> Audiofilo, whereas the proper term is Melmano, which is waaaaay less heard about, nevertheless it is the same as Audiophile and because it is used much less, when you hear somebody refering another person Melmano it means that the first person acknowledges proper Audiophile (with good connotation) knowledge in the other person.

You are right however, in English this word is acquiring such bad meaning because of people demeaning other people's setups, which I call BS, as I became an "Audiophile" when I first heard music with a $15 setup... whose only difference with my computer speakers is that it had a subwoofer, boy I remember how my brain reacted when it found the missing low frequencies in the opening video of Final Fantasy VIII, it was JOY.

Am I the only one who thinks synthetic instruments used in re-made music in "Smash Bros. for 3DS/WiiU" are low quality and sound awful ? Stuff like trumpets and regular guitar sounds make me cringe.
Thankfully some tracks like Xenoblade's Gaur Plains haven't been re-done so they sound fine.

Thankfully some tracks like Xenoblade's Gaur Plains haven't been re-done so they sound fine.

It depends on the track. A real trumpet and a synthesized one are two distinct sounds that might have different places for different context's.
For example I enjoy Final Fantasy 8's "Force Your Way" original form with it's original synthesized sound over anything orchestral thats ever been done.
But on the Smash Bros soundtrack, tracks like Stickerbush Symphony needs some desperate overhaul.

But the Smash Bros music for 3DS/Wii U was arranged by several people. So most of the people probably only had their computers to create music. It should be noted that making orchestrated music is an expensive process. Even if you gathered up talented people to volunteer for a session without pay, some of those recording studios would charge tens of thousands for some time in a booth.

Insisting to differentiate from a stereotyped term is silly. Be confident and proud. Show them who's the real deal.

AND in my opinion, it's the best track in the game. I was so bummed when I heard about that. Also, Mining Melancholy is missing from the Donkey Kong Country 2 CDs as well, speaking of songs by Dave Wise that got the shaft on OST releases.

SUPER SMASH BROS. FOR NINTENDO 3DS / Wii U ♪—A SMASHING SOUNDTRACK— - VGMdb (http://vgmdb.net/album/47780)

Before I was under the impression that this was the Japanese version, but contacted the uploader and it is the US Version, they just choose to use Japanese file names with English tags.

I also edited the vgmdb link, and image as well to match so it shows US Version instead. For those that already downloaded the other one in the D folder, not much has changed, except the folder name. I'm sure you can rename that yourself (you might have to keep that special / in the folder name when renaming though, but I'm sure you can figure it out).

Do you just keep the tracks you like or do you keep entire albums?
48GB fills up quite-quick when you're storing lossless albums. Just my Final Fantasy music alone is nearly twice as much as 48GB, and some of the super-high bitrate Blue-ray audio rips take up an offensive amount of space. I think one of the FF14 soundtracks is like 6-7GB. And FF10HD is like 6.5GB

How in the holy name of saint FLAC I missed your post? Sorry for that, I was probably too hyped about images I posted.

I mostly keep entire albums, so, yes, you are correct, it`s just massive in comparison to same music library of mp3. Maybe a hundred directories of only FLAC, and mucho less mp3.

More than once it happened that, while I did download music from a game because I know it has or mostly has specific type of music I like or specific song, I`m surprised to hear some songs that are completely out of my usual taste (that is probably undefinable by common language) and I actually like them a lot. It happens just spontaneously and it just fits my current work. Shuffle saves the day. :)

So call it a Hamster method or whatever, but it works... except in size :).

I guess you too mostly keep entire albums, but how will you go about organizing your collection? Will you go by genre, personal liking, by color of the sky in the period of the day you are doing the organizing?

I`m not kidding... for the most part :), I know the process of organizing is sometimes cumbersome if you can`t decide which path to take and which will be more productive.

I have a 2TB external drive, and will buy another if needed, they're only like $80. And I usually download based on games I liked with music I liked, games I wanted to play, and lastly most things that have a pretty cover. The pretty cover method is terrible because most of them are for stupid Japanese date sims or eroge which often has annoying music, or is a single(s) release for some crappy j-pop open sequence.

I used to have two, one for the collection and one for backup. Ultimately, it didn't fit on one drive, and my paranoia was killing me. So now I divided Soundtracks, VGM, Anime, Doujin and such in one drive, the rest on the other. And it's almost half, so it's a good balance. Now I will only lose half instead of all... xD

I'm on GB# 250+ and I'm starting to rack up alot of folders... If you were organizing your music, would you index by detail, or by simplicity?

Right now, how I have folders archived, are in a format of Game, then game number, then finally the album, so an album like a Devil Survivor 2 Arrange would be: x:Media/Shin Megami Tensei/Devil Survivor/Devil Survivor 2/Devil Survivor 2 Arrange, should I keep it detailed like that, or should I just simplify it to x:Music/Shin Megami Tensei/Devil Survivor 2 Arrange? On one hand, having it detailed, its very organized, but it uses many folders. On the other hand, Simplified looks way easier, but franchises such as Shin Megami, Final Fantasy, or Falcom can make ALOT of folders that look similar.

If they are properly handled no damages should occur, but low and behold, the stupid mail man bent the fucking thing lol. It's a 60% chance for damages from where I live. Besides, a box that's a tiny big larger packed with bubble wrap is a LOT safer anyway.

I currently have around 400 GB of lossless music, before I had a "detailed" archive, but I had a problem when I decided to move my archive to a folder which was deeper in the tree structure of the drive. Paths were too long, several tools failed to work because of that. So now I tend to go with "simplicity", and even then... I tend to write, for instance, "OST" instead of "Original Soundtrack" to be sure folder names, and by extension paths, do not get out of hand.

But soon, One will come, maybe the next week....

It's time for my yearly(ish) update

FINAL FANTASY Mega Post -V4.0- (~77.4GB)
APPLE LOSSLESS

NOTICE:
- All the following are in ALAC (Apple Lossless).
- I will NOT upload in another format for you.
- If you have something in LL that I don't please upload it and PM me the link. It would be greatly appreciated.
- A few are personal rips (FFXIII, XIII+, Crisis Core to name a few), but most have been collected through various sources.
- FINAL FANTASY UNLIMITED OST's are included, too because I didn't feel like weeding them out. I just zipped the contents of the folder and batch uploaded to MEGA
- All OST's that were released as a Blu-Ray OST (FFX HD, FFXIV:BM & ARR) have been DOWNSAMPLED (using dBpowerAmp) from 24/96 to 16/44.1. Don't like it? Don't download it.
- See the rep button? Push it lol
- ENJOY

It's time for my yearly(ish) update
Hi, I really appreciate this collection and how much work it must have been to compile it, but I hear clipping in some tracks that aren't found in other lossless versions of the said album (eg. Final Fantasy USA - Mystic Quest's OST's first track; listen to the drums 1:14 to around 1:21 in your version and compare to this version here: 01 Mystic Re-Quest I FLAC < Final Fantasy Mystic Quest | Emuparadise.org (http://www.emuparadise.me/soundtracks/highquality/download/Final_Fantasy_Mystic_Quest/FLAC/01_Mystic_Re-Quest_I/1506)).

Did you happen to rip this with Burst Mode in EAC?

I did not rip it. I explicitly stated that I compiled the vast majority of this from around the web.

Awesome FF post for sure, but I'm having trouble finding something out of the list I don't have, and finding something in my list that you don't have...

Whats the difference between ALAC and FLAC-APE-TAK in terms of size, because I have around 95GB that is strictly Final Fantasy (No sub-albums like Cafe SQ, SaGa, or Composer albums that feature more than just FF), or do I keep repeat albums like Project Majestic Silver and Gold, I just kept Gold

Anybody have had problems with the Smash Bros. soundtrack? I can open tracks 18 and 19 of Disc 1. FLAC outputs an error about possibly being encoded with a newer version, I'm using 1.2.1. Got the same error with 1.3.1.

Let me know if anyone else has this same problem. I can always replace it with a Japanese release once it arrives.

Oh wait, I just noticed, albums that came in Blu-ray format have ridiculously high bitrates and are several times larger than normal CD lossless. Albums like FF10 HD Remaster, FF14, and Distant Worlds sold digitally would take up 2-3x as much space.

Your FF10 HD is 2.2GB while mine is 6.75GB

Of course you mentioned this in some of your 1st comments, but the last thing someone does as soon as they see "77GB" in red font is read what you have to say. Instinct told me to immediately open the spoiler tag and see if i had anything i havent already seen.

APE is not recommended due to its symmetric algorithm, which means you spend as much processing power decoding as encoding. Your CPU will be fried up a lot.

TAK with -pMax setting beats APE High (haven't tried Insane so Idk) thus of course FLAC in compression ratio, without sacrificing much decoding effort, and is my personal fav for lossless audio storage. The author is in development hell trying to port it to C and open the source after that, so no encoder on *nix platforms yet (works on WINE though).

No wonder it is not widely supported by many. You learn something new every day. By the way, what's the difference between ALAC and FLAC? Which one is better?

flac is better, clearly. There are a lot of comparissons out there.

ape format it is the only one, in my opinion that overpass flac, but only with the compression.

It's surpassed by TAK like just mentioned, so that point also becomes obsolete.

I chose ALAC for one simple reason, saving myself space. I use my iPod in my car and on the go. I use to keep a FLAC version of a soundtrack for Archive purposes, then another MP3-V0- copy for use in the iPod since iPod's don't support FLAC playback. Using the FFVII OST as an example. I used dbPowerAmp to convert my lossless ALAC copy to FLAC 0, FLAC 5, FLAC 8, and then MP3 V0.

Here are the resulting sizes:
ALAC - 1.40 GB
FLAC 0 - 1.49 GB
FLAC 5 - 1.38 GB
FLAC 8 - 1.37 GB
MP3 V0 - 506 MB

So my old FFVII OST folder used to be 1.43GB (FLAC 5 + MP3V0 because I didn't know about different FLAC levels at the time, 5 being default/standard). Changing to ALAC, saved me ~300MB on just this one OST. Not to mention all the other artists I have Lossless Disco's for (Dream Theater, X JAPAN, GACKT, Eminem, DMX, Koda Kumi, Ayumi Hamasaki, etc...)

By all means, feel encouraged to convert my ALAC to whatever format fits your archival needs.

As far as you possibly having something I need, if you just want to screenshot your FF folder and PM me the link I'll scour through and see if I can find anything.

List of FLAC soundtracks I'm looking for:

Sonic Dash
Sonic Jump
Sonic Jump Fever
Sonic Runners

Can anyone please upload these or teach me how to rip them? I changed the extension of the apk of Sonic Runners to .rar and browsed through it but found no actual audio files. They must be saved in the Android System directory.. And I can't run android apps on my laptop at full speed, neither can I record from line-in since I don't have a line-in jack on my laptop.

I don't know about how Android Apps play or store music, but since it's Sega, they might be using ADX, it should be .adx or the archived .afs.
