I haven't attempted to change my avatar since about a month ago, into my current. I tried for your sake, and I can confirm that I'm also unable to make any change to my avatar.

It's not that annoying to me. Like I said, for once that I do, it doesn't work. Kind of a bummer. I'll just wait for the functionality to be restored. I'm not going to bother Jessie with something that trivial, especially if it's time consuming to do.

I assume you're referring to Jessie? Yes of course, that goes without saying. It's without value but it's the least I can do to show appreciation for all the hard work.

I don't recall anyone saying the "like" function would return for sure; do you want that? Stick to Facebook, then. An actual reply with a thank you would be far better, anyway, not only you would still show gratitude to the sharer, but you might also get another user to spot that share, since the thread ends once more at the top of the first page.

Correctomundo. Also, talking to people doesn't make you seem like a leecher who never visits. It would keep your post count up continuously. If you just down something, give a like or rep, and then vanish again, it would make you seem anti-social. Everyone loves a good chat!

I always give a +Rep and leave a comment in the far and few between Instances i download something nowadays.

There are a lot of Merits in being able to give a Like or change your Avatar.

I don't know anything about BTS but I can imagine that if the mods are doing this in their free time without any compensation whatsoever the amount of problems that are piling up would most likely hamper their motivation.

Or they are incompentent enough that they don't really know how to implement the like and avatar feature without it being an easy way for hackers to get in.

I mean don't get me wrong - there's only one mod here and that is Jessie, and he doesn't have all the power nor the knowledge to fix this, and he's just a mod, and Sarah just doesn't gives a single fuck.

Yes, I am fed up with this place, or rather, a good chunk of its active users. The only thing which keeps me here is my word, which I gave to Jessie. Don't worry, folks, I'm not like sparktank.

Jessie PM'ed me saying the old workaround of changing the avatar manually doesn't work any more. So there's only two options left: a) find the cause and fix it or b) no more avatars ever.

It's probably not that easy. The stream of attacks, malware intrusions, website code probably getting corrupted or being changed, ... You need to know your way around vBulletin if you're going to try and fix this.

Well, I have only just found this forum, and going on what I've read in this thread I may not be here for long! But back to the issue regarding avatar - I cannot upload one
There is a cryptic note in the custom avatar section: "Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 125 by 125 pixels or 24.4 KB (whichever is smaller)."
The avatar I try to upload is smaller on both counts but I get the response: "Unable to save image"

Hm, in which directory are avatars stored (The user-uploaded ones)? I'm not familiar with the technical administration of vBulletin, but most answers to folks having the "Unable to save image" error on their communities mention to "chmod 777" the folder in which avatars end, if that fails:

- See if everything is fine in Maintenance > Diagnostics > Upload.
- See if Safe Mode Upload and a Safe Mode Temporary Directory are correctly set in vB Options > Server settings > Safe Mode.

I'm not counting likes because, just like rep they might work too for some bad people to abuse.

And? It's not a "critical" issue, so don't expect anyone to sprint to fix it.

I've already sent a PM to Jessie suggesting I help out fixing the flurry of problems by digging into vBulletin and Jessie relayed that message to Sarah. Since I got no feedback (been a month or so) I suppose it ain't happening. Oh well :) I'm actually getting to like my weird default avatar, so I'm cool.

And yes, it's been 2 months but I agree with Leon, it's just an avatar. It's not like you can't log on or getting spammed with porn pop-ups on every page...

Nope. No One Can Set/Change One At All....

You can only set default ones, and even then only the ones you see (you can't open a drop-down list or anything). You're either stuck with what you have or have nothing at all.

You're absolutely right, Leon, but it's obviously not that "simple". Basically I'd ask for a framework db copy without the stored users+passwords (so basically an empty vBulletin copy to work with) and fix it from there :)

A shame we can't edit avatars anymore. It takes away from the community spirit somewhat, esp. for those of us who are just beginning to upload our FLAC collections.

This is quite the bummer to be honest.

When I choose my username, I wasn't really thinking about the actual Zodiac or astrology or whatever, I just wanted a cool-sounding name. But after a while I was like "why not change your avatar to the animal according to the Chinese Zodiac, to correlate with the Chinese New Year?".
2015 I was a goat, 2016 I was a monkey, and today I wanted to change to a rooster - that's not possible at the moment.
