Plus, Spirit is less than an hour and a half.
Hahaha I didn't quite look up the running time last night. Mine was more of a catch-all reference given the tendency of movies to nowadays either sit on or pass the two-hour mark.
The difference between 720p and 1080p is negligible at best. You can enjoy a Web-DL just fine, the same way you could enjoy an untouched Blu-ray.
I still feel compelled to disagree. There is not only an objective difference, but in my opinion, a visible/noticeable difference especially depending on the size of the medium you're watching it on. 720p cannot do rich detail and a side-by-side comparison will reveal just that. Also a 3GB 2 hour film will not be in 720p. That nonsense YIFY publicizes as 720p/1080p is nowhere near high def being sloppily compressed as it is.
Unless it's for archival or editing purposes, downloading an untouched Blu-ray is a waste of time & hard drive space.
I agree. Seeing how an untouched Blu-ray will usually weigh 30-45 GBs, that kind of disk usage is just silly, borderline OCD. But hey, we all have our demons.
Plus the amount of time it takes to download them...more chance of getting caught DL'ing it. Lol.
Come on. I was assuming, with all the activity that goes on here, that you all had your own ways to virtually never be caught - unless they were specifically looking for you, but who would ever specifically look for someone who likes to watch movies in the first place ;)

I am currently figuring out how to live through the semester (which ends in August on my university) with a possibly fried motherboard and a few animation assignments overdue. The motherboard on my main pc 'may or may not be faulty' for three weeks now, and I've been leeching off my sister's iMac to do my homeworks ever since. She has to use it for her projects as well, and if sharing a machine wasn't bad enough, the few things that I had already started are stuck on my machine's hard drive, which I won't get access to until I buy an HDD adapter (which I definitely need, but I'm hard pressed to spend more money after making some errands this past week); in other words, I'm forced to start again, if not to discard certain ideas and limit my creative output to finish each project as quickly as possible. The good news is that my dad will help me get new pieces to build another machine from scratch, allowing me to dedicate the little money I still have on something else (probably a father's day gift at this point...). Silver linings, I guess :D
The best thing about all this is that I've reconnected with my old notebook, which had been gathering dust for months :( Good thing I never got around to selling it xD

James: don't know which end of film production you're studying but you might find these tips helpful:
10: The camera lies. The camera is stupid. You're the smart one, so don't let the camera think for you.
9: Avoid the automatic functions whenever possible. Learn how to manually focus, zoom and iris the camera.
8: Zoom in & out with your feet and walk the camera toward/away from your target.
7: Shoot a sequence of wide, medium and close. Hold the shots for ten seconds. Your editor will thank you.
6: Extreme close ups or extreme wide shots will get you out of an editing jam.
5: Avoid the "solve it by dissolving it" crutch. That's the reason for the three shot sequence and the extreme close up/wide shots.
4: Tripod, tripod, tripod. Keep those shots steady.
3: Use lights and filters whenever you film people. Lights put a sparkle in the eyes, avoiding the "doll's eyes" effect.
2: Don't use the camera mic to record interviews or dialogue. It's not designed for that. Put a mic on the person/s speaking.
1: Know your camera and its peculiarities. (And always carry lens cleaner, cloth and a leatherman.)

I side with the predators. Recently two blue jays made the mistake of dive bombing my cat. Watched as she caught- in mid air- one bird and then the other. Made a meal of them and then went after the babies in the nest or as Brunhilda probably thought of them: dessert.

Best of luck with all that, AdrFax! I didn't know you were studying Animation at uni.
Thanks! Yes, hopefully in a year or so I'm out, but unfortunately, since animation doesn't have that big of a market here, the program on my university is pedestrian at best. It "borrows" subjects from other careers (film, graphic design, marketing and communications) which are useful of course, but they're included as filler, and the real heart of the matter is gleefully avoided (anything regarding physics, programming and such). Most of the professors assigned with animation subjects don't even have a formal education about it, or pursue it specifically as a hobby, and they're focused on teaching us how the software works, more than the workings of animation itself. Not to discredit their efforts, but to be honest, I've learned more on my own terms than I have with most of them. There's only two advanced teachers that do know their stuff (ironically, one came in after the other one resigned), and even though their styles are very different, I've learned a lot from both of their experiences, so at least the closing moments of my studies here will make the whole ordeal fruitful in a way.
I'm studying Film Production starting in September. :)
Btw, you don't normally use a Mac... and you're studying Animation?!
That's awesome! Film was my second-best option when I decided to pursue a creative career, mainly because I'm fascinated with the whole process, from writing to editing; and with animation, I can do it all comfortably in an office! It's better than accounting at least xD Hope you'll do well on it ;)
About that last point, I know... I've always been generally distrustful of Mac, to the point of aversion, actually. In fact, the professor that resigned hated Macs with a passion, and I guess some of that got carried on to my general opinion of them. I do believe that I'll be forced to get one for myself later on, mostly for work and such, but I don't think I'll ever fully establish myself on the Mac system.

If you can't afford a sitter, well then I'm sorry, don't go to the movies. That's disrespectful to everyone else and you look like an ass.
Furthermore, it's as if the movie was directed towards kids. Among the trailers that I remember, we were shown Max and Minions. There were other kid-oriented trailers shown, but those 2 are what I remember. I was kinda expecting the latest Genysis trailer. Nope.

Who the heck would bring an infant to see Jurassic World?? My word, the world is a strange place.
I feel deeply for you, DAK. I went to see Monsters University for the second time back in 2013 with another friend, but it was an afternoon screening. And I didn't realise it had subtitles until it was too late. Boy, are subtitles distracting. They utterly ruin any wit in the screenplay because you can read it before they say it. But they weren't the only distraction. The entire cinema was packed with parents and kids. There was a particular little girl right next to me who's mum kept shoving sweets and snacks on her. Rustling packets the whole way through. The girl wasn't interested in the film! She just wanted to eat.

I'd recommend both films. Jurassic World is a sequel or continuation of Jurassic Park that wisely ignores films number two and three. Park & World are perfect summer movies: entertaining, thrilling and about as deep as a teaspoon.

Damon addressed those concerns with Ridley Scott before signing onto the role. And from my reading, so far, the character of Watney in The Martian is a far cry from Dr. Mann. (Watney, for one, is not insane nor homicidal.) He does have a deep streak of gallows humor, that comes in handy being stranded on Mars.
Personally, I want a t-shirt that reads "I'm going to have to science the shit out of this."

I'm finishing up converting some FLAC scores to ALAC. After that I'm gonna finish up a film fix of yet another RCP score. Afterwards, I might start my Jurassic Park suite. I plan to use SonicAdventure's Deluxe version from the 20th Anniversary release, as well as the 3 Giacchino cues from Jurassic World. I have an idea of how the layout will be, but nothing official yet. Gotta find the sculpture within the stone ;)

Might I ask which one? ;)
I've never understood the appeal of suites very much, to be honest, unless it's all the variations of a theme mashed into one track. I like to hear the cues all separated the way there were in the film, more or less.

I remember Mann's EVA suit as being white. But you're right, people will make try and manufacture a connection that does not exist. It's called pattern recognition: discerning patterns that exist in nature. It allowed humans to recognize the passage of time, of seasons, faces, etc . . .
Unfortunately, it can also, if reason is not applied, have us see patterns where none exist, like clouds, constellations, or on the surface of the Moon. That is known as apophenia.

Of course, considering two apocalyptic cults founded - the Pilgrims & the Puritans - it's little wonder America is so fascinated with "end times." I think these boobs believe they'll ascend to Heaven looking like Marvel or DC superheroes.
And Heaven may prove to be a disappointment to some. Mark Twain wrote a short story about a racist who goes to Heaven and finds it filled with African Americans.
Twain said it best when he wrote: "The dog is a gentleman; I hope to go to his heaven, not man's."

Hmmm... this is the wrong thread... but seeing as you brought it up... I'm one of those who believes that the rapture will take place. Guess that makes me a boob?
But you already knew that. ;)
Unfortunately the Bible says nothing about looking like superheroes. Meh. Ah well. Hey, if you take the Left Behind slant, we'll all just disappear into thin air leaving our clothes behind! But whatever. However it happens, I do believe it will happen. And someday soon, too. Perhaps in the next 10 years or less. Here's one of the references to it in the Good Book itself: "Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air."
So when I disappear from the Shrine, at the same times as millions of other disappearances around the world, you'll know what's happened.

You misunderstand what Heaven will be like, and what the inhabitants will be like too! We will finally be freed from our sin nature, and therefore will not be tearing each other apart anymore. It will be absolutely wonderful and I personally can't wait!

I agree. After a generally fruitful day, I was about to go to bed when I stumbled upon the news. What a horrible way to close such a great day, sadly.
I won't say that I'd miss Mr. Horner himself since I don't know him, but the prospect that I won't be able to listen to his talents anymore is quite deppressing. It's a good thing that John Williams is still around though, he's outlived many talented people and continues to thrive. Good for him.

Horner recorded the music to Aliens in four days because Cameron worked on the film until almost the last minute. And Horner received his first Academy nomination for that music. The downside: the men did not get along - Cameron has a temper - and Horner figured the two would never work together again. Until Cameron heard Horner's music for Braveheart and asked him to compose the music for Titanic.
And the song - yes, that one - was Horner's idea which Cameron first balked at but relented and . . . well, if this is the end Horner's music will go on.
P.S. While I agree Horner often self cannibalized his music, his compositions were never boring. My personal favorite: Krull.

Just got back from a long day out. Got up at 6:45am, left the house at 7:30, babysat from 8:30 to 11:00, travelled to the recording studio for midday, and sat around until flippin' 3:30pm before actually recording anything!!! What a waste of time sitting in a stuffy soundproof room having my eardrums blasted by a group of teenagers smashing away on a drum kit and guitars. Makes me wonder why they feel they need strings in their songs. I'll bet when the final mix is done our parts won't be audible. Then it took over an hour to get home on the trains and a horrible jam-packed stuffy bus. So now I'm getting ready for a nice cool shower.
Still, I managed to almost fall asleep on the train listening to the beginning of Inception, which was rather fitting. Sleeping on a train with earphones in... Almost expected to wake up and fine the drip in my wrist connecting me to the PASIV device.

Yes, the cats have all been treated with Frontline flea meds, the house is pretty much clean now and not a living flea or any insect in sight.
The only draw back is the bug-bombs were really expensive at 14.00 a box for three cans and we had to buy three boxes to cover our whole house.

The albums, artists and song names were not being alphabetized correctly. A's and B's we're under the letter A. B's were C's, and so on... I had to end up restoring the phone, and there is still five albums that have always had this issue. Three Harry Potter video game scores, and two Ellie Goulding songs..I don't know how to fix them, they've always been like that.

Considering turning a few of my MP3's on iTunes for conversions to ALAC of my FLAC in my HDD. How do you guys change FLAC to ALAC? Does Foobar do that?
Nice iTunes. As well as the logo being new, and the text beneath the album covers now centred (FINALLY!), the album covers are now slightly larger and closer together.
I use MediaHuman Audio Converter. Nice little app that works a treat. Not sure if it's available for PC though.

Just got home from work, downloading now. I didn't know Apple released it last night
I haven't got any notification for update. Maybe because I haven't got iTunes on..
I dunno.. iTunes is so pretty sometimes.. you guys are making me kinda miss it. But I don't have space.. for all my recent FLAC music to be in it
and I rarely use my iPod for music now.
If you're on a Mac, it's through the App Store. PC you gotta go into iTunes and check. It really is pretty, like the "album" view....which is now how iOS 8.4 looks. I love it. And space is a major issue as to why I don't download every single thing in FLAC. If I do, I'll convert to ALAC and listen to that. I also have 1TB and wireless 3TB external drives.

You mean converting? Why do you need to convert mp3 to ALAC for iTunes? iTunes is fine with mp3, and converting it to lossless won't improve the quality.
I Think Ponyo Means Flac to ALAC As Itunes Does Not Surpport FLAC.
And MP3 - Lossless By Upgrading With New Uploads.
