I would be but my parents are only two rooms away and my bed is slowly falling apart. I've got one of those bunks with a desk underneath and that's where my PC is. I hate it being there because, again, this bed is falling apart and what if it does fall? Well, I'm sure the actual PC tower will be alright, but the monitors! D:

Agreed that it sounds like bullshit. And that is exactly why the only other possible explanation is that 20th Century Fox thinks the movie sucks. Maybe (just maybe) it could be because re-rendering isn't an over-night process (or as negligible a cost as you think it is. nb. I can tell you this for a fact because I have happened to work in post-prod. and everything costs way more than you think it does) and given the very limited window had, a half-assed conversion wasn't deemed worth the cost. It's no secret that this was, unfortunately, a rushed production.

In the U.S. the 3D craze or phase seems to have peaked, thanks, in part to those lousy post conversions you mentioned. After the success of Avatar the studios' takeaway was all an action film needed to be success at the box office and with the public was to be in 3D. They forgot or ignored the fact Cameron shot the film in 3D and designed it that way. That's why his film popped in 3D and the converted ones did not.

However, overseas, particularly in Asia the affection for 3D continues and so expect to see the post conversions for a long time to come.

---------- Post added at 08:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:39 AM ----------

Probably no one.

The film just looks bad. Plain ol' bad.

The embargo lifts today (Tuesday) and so the reviews should start appearing online. The early comments posted on social media have been quite positive. Granted, the marketing on this film has been an example of how NOT to promote your film - only Terminator: Genisys did a worse job - and have done it no favors and so the film has a lot of ground to make up in getting the audience's attention.

There are several reviewers whose opinion I trust and I'll wait to see what they say.

---------- Post added at 09:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:51 AM ----------

You didn't know this??

It's gonna rock.

I think that was said about other films like TASM2 and Avengers: AoU and they most definitely did not rock, IMO. But let's hope Deadpool does indeed deliver the goods, if for no other reason than a successful rated "R" superhero film could, perhaps, maybe, hopefully, pave the way for other "R" superhero films. (Punisher might finally get the treatment the character deserves and I've long thought in order to do The Hulk justice it would need to be an "R.)

The Deadpool drops today (Tuesday) so we will see.

Yes From The Studio Behind X-Men :p

A studio that after the relative disappointments of Last Stand & Wolverine seems to have learned its lessons. Of course, it helps that Roth is no longer head of the studio for he did not respect the superhero genre at all. His view was as long as someone in long underwear was on screen the fans would come, regardless of the film's quality.

A Non Spoiled Review Will Be Most Welcome ;)

Ask and thou shall receive.

Short Version Review: Rogue Nation is similar in execution to Ghost Protocol: it's good, in spots very good, but not great. Rebecca Ferguson as new team member IIsa Faust (a Brit with a very Germanic name. The actress is actually from Sweden.) brings a balletic style to the action scenes and handles herself well in the lulls between the action. And the action set piece staged in the Vienna Opera is probably the best in the movie. The rest of the team is their usual selves, no one really stretched their acting muscles on this movie.

As for the claims of Rogue Nation being "better than Bourne or Bond," bollocks. Bourne and the Craig Bond films focused, wisely I think, on the agents whereas Mission Impossible has focused, in the two most recent films, on the agency. All of the Bourne films centered on Jason discovering his identity and with Bond the questions posed and answered were "are human operatives still necessary in the digital age?" and "is Bond still up to the task?"

The modus operandi of the MI films has become set up an impossible challenge and watch the IMF overcome it. But the way Cruise plays Hunt and the way the films are structured we, the audience, know he will. There's not much dramatic tension present. The fight scenes are well choreographed but there's no feeling of danger or injury in the way there is in Bourne films. Nor is there an action scene shot with the deadly beauty such as the skyscraper fight or the battle on the Scottish moors as in Skyfall. (A feeling of doom hangs over the film that doesn't lift until the very end.)

And while Sean Harris starts out strong as the villain Solomon Lane he diminishes over the course of the film. Also the film never solidifies the threat of a rogue nation of agents. It's never explained how and why all these former agents faked their deaths and jumped over to the dark side. Lane is not a charismatic personality and he never achieves the level of threat that Bardem's Silva attained. Plus the Syndicate's over arching goal is never explained. (Lane's ultimate objective reminds me of Gruber's goal in the first Die Hard.)

For me, the best IMF villains was that of Hoffman's. He wanted to punish Hunt and made the fight personal.

Bottom line: Rogue Nation is a good time at the movies but they are becoming about the stunt work travails Cruise is willing to subject himself to.

P.S. This is the second time the government suspended or decommissioned the IMF. Let's hope there is not a third.

It helps when the rain keeps you indoors. But if you've enjoyed MI: III & IV you'll enjoy V. The final action set piece is uninspired except for how it ends. Its finale almost makes up for what precedes it.

And unless the reviews for FF are bad, I'll be standing in line with the rest of the punters to see it.

I am confused. Azetlor asked what I was doing, and I told him. You followed this by stating that I was in fact masturbating. I felt no urgency to deny this, as I had already answered the question. I suppose my use of "pervert" is questionable, as I do not sincerely consider an individual "perverted" for imagining me masturbating. It is a harmless thought, as far as I am concerned. But this does not seem to be what you are getting at here, and at any rate I at no point implied that I was contemplating masturbation, so regardless of your thoughts on the relation between masturbation and perversion, I do not see how the latter term applies to me. Perhaps you could explain.

I spent most of my years on the little known Balnazzar, which eventually became Alterac Mountains/Balnazzar/Gorgonnash/The Forgotten Coast/Warsong, and then a year or two on Emerald Dream. I have a lot of ties to Eonar/Velen, Kel'Thuzad, and Kil'jaeden, all alliance side. Always alliance side. I used to lead a lot of cross-server events though so I've got alliance connections on a ton of servers.

I don't do major things in the game.
Highest character I got is a level 50 Dwarf.
I don't do raids or anything either.

I like the open world and skinning.
I mostly play with one friend or another doing quests, some dungeons.

I loved just exploring the world pre-Cataclysm. I think the game became a lot less immersive with that expansion, though Warlords of Draenor has done a lot to bring it back. Dying servers in Cata/MoP didn't help I guess. You could play all day on Balnazzar in Mists of Pandaria and never encounter another human being. But the game has improved a lot this past year.

I've been hearing a lot how different the game is these days.
A lot of people from the old days really loved it in its prime years.
One of my friends I play with, she really liked it before they changed a lot.

I joined in right at the Draenor expansion, I think.

Compared to some older single-player games I've been used to for years before this, this game is immersive.

But since I first started playing that, I've upgraded some games (which are now old).
I finally got around to Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Dragon Age (1).

I'm still so enraptured by the wide scope of games.

I used to think GTA: San Andreas was as big as they get.

I'm not going to get the newest GTA because it's just over-the-top with new content and wider maps.
Simply too much to do anything.

I think a lot of the problem lies in plot. A good exploration-centered game should leave a lot of questions unanswered. You wander into some sacred grove, and you don't have any idea how it got there or who uses it or what this ancient symbol means, and you never will. That sort of sense of mystery and otherness really draws me into a game. Now, with 11 years under their belt, the world (of Warcraft) is just too fine-tuned and purpose-driven. You go somewhere, you're told exactly what's going on and that only you can save them, you rectify the situation and move on to the next objective. Or at a low level, on an account that has accumulated all of the leveling perks, you walk into some forest that you could spend hours exploring, bitch slap one boar, and you've just gained 12 levels and it's time to move on to the next zone. You can turn these power-leveling features off, but the game isn't really designed for it anymore. Basically the thrill of exploration is gone because zones are more force-fed to you and you have less cause to spend extra time there looking around.

That's not controversial. That's common sense. Evolution is fact. (If organisms didn't evolve we wouldn't need flu shots every year.) It's only controversial if you think the Earth is only 10,000 years old and Jesus traveled around the Holy Land on the back of a friendly dinosaur.

Of course it should be taught in school. Leave the religious fairy tales for Sunday. (Me, I spend my Sundays mind melding with my pillow.)

And that topic should not be controversial, though. But of course some religious people need to put their believes before anyone else, and imput them to everyone, want it or not. I believe in the evolution. Not because I'm atheist, or because I believe in science, but because it's been a living proof. It's just religious people don't want to believe it because it kinda implies (for them) that God didn't make us. Which is a bit of a lie, because honestly if anyone wanna believe we were made by a God, believing in evolution (in my opinion) shouldn't mean or change your believe that God made us, I mean why wouldn't he make evolution?

Believe me, it has every reason to be controversial. And no offense, but what you just said was rather ignorant. But I don't blame you, as that's what a lot of people think, as that's what they've been taught. In school. But I'll save answering your statements until I'm done writing. Then you can read it. :)

I apologise for any offense. I was simply stating a fact that what you had said was ignorant. But you're not to blame - it's what you've been taught. And that's the whole reason I'm writing this damn paper. Because evolution is taught in schools as a fact and excluding all else.

I believe in the evolution because it's been a living proof.

That's what you've been taught. You've not even been shown the other side, let alone taught that it has any credibility. It's my opinion that there is no indisputable evidence that evolution has occurred.

...if anyone wanna believe we were made by a God, believing in evolution (in my opinion) shouldn't mean or change your believe that God made us, I mean why wouldn't he make evolution?

I don't know about other gods, but there is every reason why the God of the Bible wouldn't and couldn't have used evolution. It is both theologically and scientifically absurd. But again, you can read all about that in my paper when I'm done. :)

1:00 am - this is just a quick shout-out (bear with me) to McGlynn, for unwittingly having a timing so on point it's moving, and to the whole Shrine and its members.

I sent McGlynn a message a few days ago pleading him to share Giacchino's Lost soundtracks, a collection I've been sorely missing and for which it seemed I would be engaged in a sempiternal search ever since moving homes a few years ago- a 'dark' (not really) period in my life as I came out of it without my treasured CD collection. Today I learned that I lost a person who was very close to me. She was someone I had known and been bound to for my whole meager life and even physically took care of after she was felled by early-onset Alzheimer's and well after she was no longer self-sufficient or able to recognize me. I wish I could say she passed peacefully but she didn't. She died in a tiny cold room, alone, prematurely. By the most implausibly tragic of accidents, she was robbed of all goodbyes and, worse yet, of the often-heard moment of bliss and clarity that precedes the acknowledgment of one's final breath. She was a beautiful person who deserved to leave free from pain; instead she was abandoned to suffocate in harrowing torture. I was the first person the family reached out to as soon as they found her. That shouldn't be a death explained to those who live on.

I have never cried this much and though it will be long before I stop apologizing to my last memory of her, you have no idea how grateful I am to have these notes to play with my sorrow. At the time of the show's finale, she joked that "Moving On" perfectly ruined "There's No Place Like Home", one of her favourite cues. I might do some actual re-arrangement, as opposed to just editing a suite, to be played during the private service on Friday.

Thank you again McGlynn and everyone else on these forums for your generosity. Big, big hugs.

I've been absent from here the last couple of days. I've just been continuing to work on my ARK gamerip and been pretty silent while doing so.
I will probably be my normal self when I return to my usual self in a couple of days. Until then I wish you all well.

EDIT: Yes. Thank you SkeletonMan for pointing out how grammatically incorrect the above sentence was.

Oh, believe me, arguing from this position is muscle-stretching enough for me at the moment, but that would certainly be an interesting idea, assuming the opposite position actually had leg to stand on. *cough*

I hate the part that I have to wait til someone gets my money in the bank account, because due to that waiting, one of the two discs I'm interested is now out of stock directly from Amazon.co.jp.

James P.Sullivan

Not quite that much. The two discs are still sold in Amazon.co.jp, just, by other sellers, not directly by amazon.co.jp which offered me a good price and real fastness at shipping. I'm gonna check out to see if the other shops can be as fast, too. But now that I recall, with one disc, the problem was that only Amazon.co.jp ships the disc to my place. Now THAT's a problem because if such happened I'd have to wait til the disc gets on stock again by Amazon which could be a long time.

Yeah. It's annoying. Good luck with it!

I wonder how long it'll take Intrada to ship my copy of Homeward Bound out to Monstropolis?

James P.Sullivan
08-07-2015, 01:12 PM
Depends. Intrada's FAQ two to four weeks, but I've had people say their orders were taken in a days or a week.

This is very true. I only have 3 out of 4, as I never met my grandpa on my mum's side.

Both of my grandfathers died when I was an infant, so I've only ever had grandmothers. I have vague memories of visiting my mom's father in the hospital when he was dying. Probably my earliest memories.

The clip on your gamerip "Divine Intervention" is the best clip in the entire movie. I, too, wish it was leaked. Even if it was just that track.
Why did they release the score on disc different from the movie? I don't understand it. Surely it's just more effort?

You mean why are film versions of tracks different from OST versions? What happens is the composer (Mark Mothersbaugh in this case) creates the piece the best he can to fit the tone, pacing, and such of the film. The track is used by the film editors, who plug it into the film. But the track may need to be a little shorter or longer, or needs a little somethin' extra to better fit the scene. The audio mixers do whatever they need in this case. Sometimes it's cutting off the first few seconds (such as in "Rules of Time" in DoFP) or adding a complete new line of instruments (like the goofy chanting in the film version of "Saloons and Wagons" in The Lego Movie).

That's why I wonder if the film version of "No Time For Caution" would be on the Interstellar sessions... from what I understand that was a mashup of "Mountains" and Zimmer's preferred OST version, engineered entirely in post-production.
