You people are so picky. Back in the day it could take weeks, months, or however long it took to get a letter/parcel from point A to point B.

Now everyone needs everything NOW!

Being patient pays off. Amazon should never have added a "one-day delivery" option. It tricks people into thinking that that should be the norm.

Dunno, but Amazon guaranteed the thing would be given to me today, so if they don't give it to me (I know it is in my nearest post office or in actual delivery since 9 am) Amazon should hand them a fault.

https://media.giphy.com/media/EJDt2sl10gLM4/giphy.gif

When I ordered my GTX 950, I chose 2-day shipping or weekend shipping or something like that. It was ordered on Friday, came in 10 AM Monday.

They did exactly what they said they were going to do. I trust if there are any problems, Amazon will sort it out. Hopefully Amazon US and Spain don't differ in their customer service.

Amazon Prime Spain is wonderful with 1 day shipping. I ordered it yesterday afternoon and this morning it was in delivery, just haven't gotten it yet..

Apparently, my mom says because Spain Mail (Correos) don't send in the afternoons but I doubt it..

IT SAYS IT'S IN DELIVERY.

Yeah, it's been saying that since 9 am and it's 6 pm. I don't think it's coming today. Nor tomorrow.. since I think Mail doesn't work weekends.

Mail closes around 8 pm or so so I doubt I'm getting it

That's exactly what the doc said, could've hit an artery. This is now the 3rd time an arm/hand has gone through a window.

Took screenshots from the video of the doc stitching it up. That's right, I recorded it. It was fascinating. Watched the whole thing.

Doc said I was a trooper. Of course I was, I'm a New Yorker.

My assistant nurse was pretty cute. Kelsey. Got to flirt with her a bit :)

He was probably glass wrestling or something.

Ok. here's what happened.

This is the new house that we moved into in June 2014, nearly 2 years ago. ALL of the windows that open are the old-fashioned kind. They either crank or push outward at an angle. None of the simple ones where you simply lift up/down.

It was nice and cool outside last night, the house was a little warm. So I was going to open the bathroom windows (master bath), the window next to the front door, and the window oppostie that one in the half bath.

Mom recently painted the outisde of the window sills about 2 weeks ago, getting all spiffed up for our Memorial Day party. So she painted them and of course when you close and lock them, they get stuck shut. Like really stuck. So I'm in the master bathroom last night trying the first one. Couldn't get it. I moved to the second one. Couldn't get it. Tried the guy up front. Had to bang on it with my fist and eventually got it. But I was banging on the wood frame (which is very small, there's not much there to use as leverage), not the actual glass.

I then tried the last guy in the half bath on the oppostie side of the one I just opened. I'm banging and banging and banging until suddenly my fist goes through, I hear and see the glass shatter and then my arm ges through. And I had that "oh fuck, this did not just happen!!!!" moment. I turned on the bathroom light and saw how bad it was. It was bad. Deep. I was dripping a trail all over the house. It looked like that scene in Nightcrawler when Lou enters that big house where there was a murder and he follows a blood trail. I swear it was like that. Also when I moved my fingers I could see the tendons moving. It reminded me of the end of ESB when Luke gets his robotic hand and the android is testing it out and you see all the moving parts.

Dad had just gone to bed (mom is out of town for the weekend with my aunt). I knocked on his door, cracked it opened and said "I think you need to take me to the hospital. I broke the window, cut my arm and I think I see bone". So he got dressed, cleaned up my horror movie blood trail, I gave him my keys and he drove us down to the ER in my car. Luckily, we've always lived a mile down the road.

Ended up at the hospital for 5 hours and 45 minutes. I'd say the combined time of everything - saleen rinse, x-ray, stitch and discharge took probably a little over an hour.

Here's one last spoiler-free shot for you guys. Frankenstein :p

Converting bluray of "Bounce" (Ben Affleck, Gwenyth Paltrow) to DVD for my mom.

From laptop to desktop, I really need to play around with things a lot more to get matching brightness.

Using Avisynth to try keep the colors solid. Don't want the blacks washed out, nor the whites overpowering. It's a huge struggle for black and white right now.
It seems my laptop likes to make everything grey.
The script I'm using is very slow, as it's calculating in much larger numbers. Only want to do this once, so might as well make it count the first time.
Everything is being processed in 16-bit. Video is normally processed at 8-bit only, as most home video is just 8-bit.
Rare occasions, you can get mediums in 10-bit, 12-bit or 16-bit. (9,11,13-15 bit videos don't really exist)
10-bit encodes are common for anime. The new UHD-BD/4K movies are 10-bit.
Some ProRes, DVCpro recordings from HDCams can be 10-bit.
Some really high-end mediums for theaters are 12-bit. Other high-end formats, too.
Finding 16-bit video as a source is the hardest and rarest. Usually studio assets for digital projects. Like that open-source project from Blender software, "Sintel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRsGyueVLvQ)", "Tears of Steel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHOpb2fS-cM)", or "Big Buck Bunny (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqz-KE-bpKQ)". You can get 16-bit PNG's from them to render your own video. They have unprocessed (not mastered, unfiltered, etc) versions where you can filter it yourself for whatever you need.

It is taking me nearly 4 hours to convert the bluray to a lossless 480p intermediate before I run it through another converted to make it DVD format.

While I'm waiting for that, Im just looking up random technology and things you can do.
And getting other conversions ready, too.

Oh no, I didn't cut myself! I've no reason to.

Well, I hear this rustling noise, look behind me, there is a bat flying around in the hallway and the two rooms over.

Now, I'm not fucking waking up my parents, so I took it upon myself. My dad had always dealt with it before, but this time, I had to be the one.
I got a lightweight broom, and engaged in some combat and maneuver. The usually fly around in circles, especially when there's a light on.
That's what it was doing, but it alternated some, between the two rooms. There was really no memorizing his movements in this situation, unlike the usual when it's the one room.

I had to act fast, though. Every time it flew towards me, it flew close, low sometimes.
It flew the alternating routes a couple of times - crouch fast! Missed swing, move to the left or right a little, crouch again, attempt to attack, miss again, fourth time, the same,
I got him down to the floor, then proceeded to beat the living hell out of it.

Adrenaline rush, am I right? Of course there was blood on the floor, that's where it was, I put a basket over it, went the kitchen quickly to get a rag to clean it up, when I came back to the scene, he was gone.
Probably crawled out through one of the holes of the basket. I hope it didn't fly out. Should've put a towel over it, but I didn't think of it.

I regret it, but at the same time, I don't. As I said, I didn't know what else to do, so I had to be a man. :p Thank God for the loud air conditioners upstairs, my parents didn't hear a sound.

With fire.

You don't know what's in that blood. Hep-V, rabies.

Between the groundhog and bats, I'd say it's time you guys invest in a hawk. Maximum overkill.
Baby dragons would be ideal. They can breathe fire on any contact areas to reduce any risk of any filth or disease the animals carry with them.

Get one of them supersized blue bug lights. Wind up, and bat that bat into it. Cook until an internal temperature of 165F (classify it as poultry, why not). :smrt:

Now that I've read DAK's story of what happened, as I was guessing knife fight or bike accident, it really doesn't matter HOW it happened, just that he's going to be okay.

Awesomely gruesome pics, and a hell of a cool scar to follow, and I hope he regains full use of his arm!

Nah, I wish a knife fight. It's a pretty gnarly slice and the stitching looks hella awesome, so I'll tell people it was something better than trying to open the window before bed

Maybe a shattered window fell on my arm ala Ghost and I had to use my left arm to lift it out of me. Idk, I got time to conjure something up :D

Plan for right now:
• Go to my aunt's house for a gathering about my cousin's graduation from Pre-Kinder.
• Go to the dentist at 2:30 to have the first of my couple fillings done.
• Go home to finally open the package I've been anticipating for since the last two weeks.

A question I have for those who have gone through it: how does feel when getting fillings for your teeth. I'm quite nervous, though I hear it's not as bad as getting your wisdom teeth removed, so there's that.

Haha very good point!

I like all four Iron Man themes, and wouldn't mind any of them. But if Djawadi's reappeared I'd have a complete nerdgasm.

Jackman's Cap theme would be fine, but seeing as Silveatri is scoring I also wouldn't mind his theme appearing once or twice for fun.

If Armsteong's Hulk theme turned up that would be nice.

Either of Thor's main themes would be fine, although I prefer Doyle's to Tyler's by a little.

Beck's Ant-Man.

Jackman's Spidey.

After playing this game for what seems like a billion days straight, I was eager to get the soundtrack. However, it's not getting an official release until sometime this summer according to the composer Solar Fields. Bummer.

The album cover is probably gonna be the key art, and the key art for the game just looks bad; or at least I don't care much for the pose in it (). But I absolutely love the city in the background. There's another render with a much better pose (), but it's on a bland background with a bunch of lens flares and it's all warm and orange and blegh.

Thought the better pose pasted onto the city from the key art might be worth trying, and I'm surprised it looks as good as it does. Gives off a vibe similar to the original game.

It's a work in progress (the cutout is very rough), so no high-resolution or finished version yet, but I'll definitely have it pretty and perfect mid-next week. Someone has probably done a gamerip by now and there will be versions for that too. Anybody have suggestions on text placement? Having it in the same line as the logo might be best.

Oh, and the game is fantastic too! Story isn't anything to write home about but the meat of the game is the free-running and oh boy is it good.

It's current sound is decent, but I was going to complete the actual track after I finished the demo, which would of course have better sounding instruments.

I was wondering if you guys think I should finish the demo now, and then complete the full track, or just start working on the track this instant.

Hmmmm it will certainly be interesting. His best scores, IMO, are for Stuart Little (1999) & Stuart Little 2 (2002). Two of my all-time favourites that I couldn't live without.

The First Avenger is a fun score, and the main theme is awesome.

I really like his themes for The Avengers but I find a lot of the score itself to be quite boring. There are only one or two stand-out cues out of the 90+ cues in the score which is a shame.

I also really quite like his score for RED 2.

Night At The Museum is really, really lovely, but again quite a bit of the score itself tends to be non-descript cues.

I still need to watch Volcano and Castaway.

It's pretty good!

I have no idea what it's supposed to accompany, but it reminds me of a sort of sexy/sensual "spy game" (such as the movie 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith'). For some reason I feel like there should be a sort of "Prince of Persia'-like Persian/Arabic electric guitar build-up to the end. Probably wouldn't make it fit in with what you're likely making it for, but that's what it kinda sounds like to me.

Keep in mind: This was not well thought-out, the strings do not sound that good, nor are they timed that well (perhaps because I'm using a computer keyboard to play this), and I have little to no experience composing something like this. I'm more or less downing or not praising myself because partly I don't want to sound pretentious. But would appreciate more than my own opinion on what I am doing. :)

Uh... I think I'm fucking myself over right now by having not written any of my songs or ideas down in some sort of way.

Like, I know there's definitely at least 3 tracks I've completely forgotten about, and the only way I would ever remember them is if God forbid I saved some sort of project in FL Studio or something.

I just tried doing something new, so I thought you guys would maybe want to hear my first go at an 'orchestral' sort of composition.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B18GQkZXWsEVeXBUdGJsOERLNlU

Keep in mind: This was not well thought-out, the strings do not sound that good, nor are they timed that well (perhaps because I'm using a computer keyboard to play this), and I have little to no experience composing something like this. I'm more or less downing or not praising myself because partly I don't want to sound pretentious. But would appreciate more than my own opinion on what I am doing. :)

Having listened to it three times in a row, I really like it! The harmonies and structure remind me of some of the latter part of Jackman's Civil War - and that's a compliment!

My suggestion would be to play it at a much slower tempo. Really "string" it out (see what I did there?). Use your ascending scale motif to really build the harmonic tension. Slowing it down would really help it, I think.

This calls for a facepalm :( Maybe record and save your projects from now on rather than just exporting them? Also keep a notebook of sorts where you pen down ideas?

Universal Studios Orlando.

:awsm: have not been to any US for a long time. I was way too young to remember anything from the first trip.
I think we only went to the California one back in the late 80's.

I remember one of them or some other franchise in USA used to have a TRON exhibit for Tron: Legacy.
I don't think it lasted very long as the franchise went downhill.

If there does happen to be anything TRON related, you have to take as many pictures as you can. Even if it's just a poster.

Over 1,200+ Covers....

I quite like Imgur. It's the fastest to sign into and navigate to my albums.
A lot of options for posting links.
They let you put in URL's for images so that should cut down on using your own bandwidth.

Random question - does anyone here have a copy of the extended edition of HP and the Philosopher's Stone?

I used to have a remux of it but lost it when one of my old externals crashed.
I have not bothered to get it again since they stopped making them for the rest of the films.
There was a boxset that only sells in USA that had up to the first 5? movies in extended edition.

I can get 1 & 2 in extended. but nothing after that. Even if discs do exist, no one has bothered to pay for them and pirate them.

Well, of course. Luckily, I do have a couple of older projects, which have some ideas in them, one or two of which might be worth doing something with.

I know technically to compose is to write the notes in the order that you mean for them to be played, which I have not been doing. But as long as I save a project or something from now on, that idea will be there for me to remember.

It's just Clonemaster being stupid, is what it is. ;-) I think he needs to learn from his mistakes. :)

My only wish is that they could include ORIGINAL songs! I know about the copyright issues since a lot of known music from the show has music from other movies - BUT there's also original songs! Hopefully the are included soon.

Ok, here it is. This is a mash of the five cues I composed for my short film last year stuck together in Audacity. Piano-only, so nothing fancy.

https://clyp.it/mugblnze

I recorded it all on the small grand in our newly-refurbished campus chapel (for the lovely acoustic) on the evening of the submission deadline, watching the various clips on my Mac whilst I played it so that it was in-sync with the picture. The reason the quality isn't great is because of the iPod microphone.

Oh wow. I guess listening a lot of film music score and understanding both that and movies, does make you able to compose good music for movies. That's quite impresive. So simple, it's just a piano - but it says a lot! Lot of symphonic vibes there.. It sure must have been a beautiful company to the movie..

Very, very good! I love it!

It's simple, but is still very enjoyable. I could possibly play something similar to this on my own Yamaha keyboard (PSR-200), and it wouldn't be as good, just because of it's sound.

The way it sounds is a very big part of good composition and music, and can go a long way.

Yes, it really does help being very familiar with film scores! I simply watch each scene and decide if needs music or not, and if so, I'll start experimenting on whichever instrument I'm in front of/holding and the ideas almost come from nowhere. It's like my brain knows what the scene needs musically... if that makes sense! It's very difficult to put into words. :p

Thanks, George! As both you and Ponyo pointed out, it's very simple. I really wanted it to be, as the film had a time restraint of just 5 minutes and I didn't want to develop any great, complicated theme for it that would've sounded too big for the style/length of film.

And yes, sound quality is most important! I always try to record with real instruments if I can, as I prefer the "live" sound, but for that you really need a good acoustic. For another project this last semester I added an effect or two to the score in places to make it sound like it was in a better acoustic than just my university flat bedroom!

Don't worry, I literally can't explain half the way of how I do music. Sometimes (not that often, at all) I'll play a couple notes, then - BOOM! I 'somehow' automatically know the rest of the tune, what to do with it. Does this happen to you too? Is this a composer related occurrence?

Of course, it doesn't mean the themes are always good. :p

My professor told me that in composition you should pretty much forget all the theory you've learned in class, and really explore, with no limitations. It would be interesting if you had 2nd inversion triads in the violins and violin ii's, going from minor or diminished triads to major or even augmented triads. Something William's does a lot. Hey! That's pretty good!

Well, the thing is, a lot of the terms you're using, whether they be musical terms, compositional terms, I don't know what they mean. :p
Regardless of myself composing maybe 2 or 3 decent tracks, I still have a lot to learn, experience to gain, and I don't know anything about music theory at this point, nor do I know how to read sheet music...

These are all things that could help me create better music. Perhaps taking a music or piano class would help, though I'm 15 now, and I'm sort of in the process of searching for a suitable job, so I would have a bit less time on my hands than usual.

Though you're not a professional, I'm sure there is a lot I could learn from you and / or James.

Really, I just think it would be easier if I was aware of what "Fi", "Mi", "Do", or "2nd inversion triads" meant. Though I'm sure there is somewhere I could learn about these terms, the internet or through actual conversation.

La-La-Land likes to be cronological. With luck they'll release more!

With a look at the cover it says "Movement 1." Expect more to come!

(Unless I'm understanding that wrong.)

Hope it was worth it...

Hey, what's the deal?

I'm fairly busy for pretty much all of today and it feels like I've not been here in 4 years, or something.

I mean, that's pretty fucked up.

Oh, it may have been that I temporarily forgot how it feels to have a life.

Closing up the windows. Neighbours are smoking marijuana and they don't look like cancer patients.
Kakhi pants, borderline turtleneck shirts, silver chain, ready to go clubbing.
Their uncle/cousin is in a gang and the bars they go to get frequent gun shooting incidents due to gang-related activities.
This guy looks like those disposable characters that get taken out early in the movie when an assassin or secret agent sneaks up behind them.

"When the skies opened and Heaven was revealed."

That's exactly what the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah said.

Then God nuked them.

Maybe when the next episode of American Dad is available I'll try see if I can get them to send a puff my way. I'll throw a $5 bill on string out the window to get their attention. I'll play that Borat tv show really loud and imitate that voice. They'll know I mean business.

And People still claim Wrestling isn't real.

Da Ali G Show ?

That's the one!
I watched Borat recently. Bruno looks more than unnecessary to me. He was already known by then so the effect is lost.
I had one friend who used to tape the show to watch over and over again. And another friend who watches all his movies.

Personally, I'd rather see Sacha Baron Cohen do more musicals than comedy films.

The Brothers Grimsby had one real funny part where he mistakes his mark for the maid and the mark starts talking about sexual acts and he's thinking that she's talking about logs of poo. That legitimately made me laugh.
