Listening to 2m13-14 Sparrow Escapes as I search for 1080p copies of the Pirates trilogy on the net. Lately I've been replacing all my SD digital copies in iTunes with 1080p torrents. And it turns out that most of the time, the HD is smaller in size than the SD. So I get better quality for less space. Win-win. Just found a 1080p copy of WALL�E that's 1.20GB, current 720p copy I have is 1.75GB. There's 500MB I just gained right there :D

Depends on the "scene/group/release"
Encodes, YMMV. A lot. Most of them sacrifice a lot of speed options just to get the encode done quicker.
Those encodes can be done again with better settings and look better yet.

"Web-DL" (Amazon/iTunes) are often better at 720p.
The settings for both 720p and 1080p are exactly the same. They encode 1080p as if it were 720p.
Plus, with 720p Web-DL, it tends to hide more of the artefacts and horrible encoding since the resolution is smaller.
Bit per pixel, it's better than the bitrate-deprived 1080p encodes.

Public sites have the worst settings for their encodes.

If you want to go smaller size but still 1080p, go with Hi10P encodes.
Less bitrate needed, less visible banding, smaller size, efficient quality.

I figured you'd chime in. I'm not a brainiac like you :p

720 looks shitty in my eyes. I can tell a difference. And it's something I'll be watching from time to time in iTunes on a 17" Mac and maybe on an iPhon 6. I have the physical Blu-ray, so if I ever want to watch it in true 1080p, I can always pop it in. For now, what I found will do just fine.

I can't wait until we start getting the UHD-BD.

I just finished KHOLAT, a game based on the Dyatlov Pass Incident.

Fifty-six years ago in Russia, the Northern Ural Mountains, a group of nine students of the Ural Pyrotechnic Institute embarked upon a difficult winter expedition to reach the Otorten Mountain. Their journey seemed to progress according to plan. However, on the seventh day of their trip the weather conditions worsened. They lost their orientation and were forced to set up a camp on the slope of a mountain called Kholat Syakhl.

It was their last stop.

Three weeks later in Yekaterinburg, when their families received no word of their success, the first rescue expeditions were sent. On February 25th, 1959, an abandoned campsite was found. The tent was torn down and covered in snow, with all the camp's belongings still inside. Further examinations revealed that the tent was torn from inside out. The surrounding footprints indicated that the crew had fled the tent. They were barefooted. This suggests a frantic escape, characteristic of people scared out of their minds. Two sets of prints led to the forested area below, down the slope.
The rescue team found an improvised fireplace... and two bodies. They were lying only in their underwear, with cuts and scratches on their limbs, suggesting they tried to climb a tree in panic. What would terrify them so much? The next three bodies were found scattered a few hundred metres away from the first discovery. One of them had suffered a fractured skull, despite no evidence of a struggle.
It took the spring thaw two months later to enable the rescue team to find the rest of the victims. The last four hikers were found buried in a thick layer of ice and snow. Their autopsy's led to even more bizarre findings - all of them had severe internal injuries - caused by an undetermined force, similar to that of a serious car accident. No external damages or bruises were visible besides a tongue ripped from one victim's mouth and a strange, orange skin colour. Much speculations have risen from these puzzling events.
Some theories included an attack from the local tribesman, extraterrestrials, or an avalanche. Each theory, however, only served to create more questions.

The truth behind these tragic events still remain unexplained to this day. Perhaps there are still some secrets we have yet to discover hidden deep under the snow?

This really made me want to play. I love horrors based on true stories.

My uncle went to Hawaii a few years and when he went on the return flight, the plane wouldn't start. It just wouldn't budge. After it was confirmed that the plane was in total working condition, one of the natives said something about it being unlucky to take Hawaiian rocks away. Sure enough, some dude had a rock in his bag. They got rid of it and the plane worked just fine after that. Coincidence... or not? :O
