Say again?? You have the same duvet cover?! That's mental! Post a photo - now!

And yes, three DVD's - Captain America: The First Avenger, Iron Man 3, & Thor: The Dark World. There should be a fourth - the US edition of The Avengers - but Amazon's being a dick about it. I ordered it last week along with the others, and it was supposed to arrive the next day but didn't. Apparently the driver couldn't find the address or something lame. So I contacted Amazon and gave them specific instructions regarding where my flat was. I then went home for the weekend, and whilst I was away I tracked the package and it said it had been delivered - handed to someone at the door. But it wasn't here when I got back this afternoon, and none of my flatmates received anything whilst I was away. I checked at the security office here on site, and also at the post room down the other end of campus, but it's just not here. So I've had to phone Amazon AGAIN and they've said all they can do is give me a refund. Time to go order another copy...

In the end, it was censorship that led Agent Phil Coulson’s death scene in The Avengers to be altered for the U.K. version of the Blu-ray and DVD, not Marvel’s secret plan to bring the fan-favorite character back from the grave.

Addressing the controversy with Home Cinema Choice, Disney UK’s Home Entertainment spokesperson Lydia Rodrigues asserted that there was “no censorship” involved in the re-editing of the pivotal scene, but admitted the spear tip had been removed because it was “deemed inappropriate” for U.K. audiences. Unfortunately for all of our conspiracy theories, it seems the absence of the spear is as simple as that.

“There’s been no censorship, no foul play,” Rodrigues said. “The version of Marvel’s Avengers Assemble [the U.K. title for The Avengers] on Blu-ray disc in the U.K. is the same as the version shown theatrically. It really is. The simple fact is for a 12 certificate film in the U.K., that scene was deemed inappropriate. So Marvel Studios chose to remove the spear tip digitally.”

PG-13 is the most coveted rating here in the US. I think the sex scene in Iron Man was added solely to bump it up from a PG.

The primary audience that studios want to attract are dumb teenagers, so mild use of strong language, blood but not gore, and sex but not boobs are the best way to attract them like flies.

Instead of having PG-13, they need to have G, PG, and R, with an R rating being accompanied by details of just what content justified the rating.

Violence
Violence must not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood. Sexual violence may only be implied or briefly indicated and without physical detail.

I was gonna say special features but then I remembered - the UK version of the Avengers is censored. That might probably be why.

It's not because of the censoring - I'd completely forgotten about that! It's instead about the packaging and title. I hate the UK title of Avengers Assemble. Just because there's some stupid old UK TV show called "The Avengers" doesn't mean people will confuse it with Marvel's The Avengers. Just like Tomorrowland and Zootopia - just because we have bands here called "Tomorrowland" and "Zootopia" (not that I'd even heard of them before these movies appeared) doesn't mean you have to change the movie titles to Tomorrowland: A World Beyond and Zootropolis. It's stupid.

So there's that. Then there's the packaging. I really don't like the UK DVD cover:

I don't like that poster.

The US one is much better:

And best of all, gives a shit about the veterans of this country - something Obama don't give a fuck about. He's done nothing to improve the country.

Though I don't see how Trump will "Make America Great Again" and I don't think he'll make it. Who knows. I'd love to see him and Hillary go at it should they both be the republican and democrat front runners.

Look, I respect people and all, but Trump is a fucking racist piece of shit, who can't run a country for shit. He's just a trump, pun intended, a millionare who just wants to be important. It's like a kid with a hissy fit that just woke up today and said "Hey, I wanna be a fucking president." He's no good for a presidency, he's just gotten to a candidate because he can pay the publicity himself. And you're just honestly doing the tipical american attitude. Prideful, 'murica is best and everything else is shit. The only reason why some people like him is because he's literally everything the USA is. Prideful, racist, and idiotic. Honestly even if Trump didn't get to be president. Honestly even if Sanders got to be one, I have little hopes for 'Murica and basically the world. Though you'd be better than that, honestly.

You know I was joking about the whole America is the greatest, right? Every citizen says that of their own country. There is no one individual country that's the single best one.

And I agree what you said about Trump. I just think it'd be crazy and amusing if the man responsible for the phrase "you're fired" became president.

ANYWAY, I'm sitting around waiting for the shop to call and tell me my Mac is ready to be picked up. It's been a fucking week since I paid to have them go through with replacing the board. And they say it takes "about a week" (which is how long it took last time)

Yeah, but I'm not "complaing" exactly because of that, but what you said about supporting Trump and everything else. Trump is basically the representation of what americans are. Racist and obnoxious, and prideful, in my honest opinion. A controversial opinion that I sometimes keep to myself and others I don't. This time is one. People will go at me, but hey, freedom of opinions, exist, right? I know there's exceptions (Skelly is the first example that comes to my head) and just because it's plain logic that, if a country has millions of people, half of them have got to be good people and all. I'm just saying. :P The two Obama presidential years have been the best of America in my opinion. Many good things for better. Yes, yes, I know, I've had people tell me what some of the things that Obama do affect to some people and make the lifes of other better; but you can't make everything happy in a huge country like the US, can you? However, Obama has done quite a few things. Let's not forget the latest; making LGBT marriage legal everywhere possible in the US. But, let's not get into that topic, however.

I don't really like country pride honesty, in my opinion, I have no pride of the country I live in (Spain), it's just really full of fucking idiots, I swear, and politics and people in the ups literally laugh at us and steal us and do every kind of shit, and instead of going out to the streets to complain about that, what do they do? The catalunya people complain about being "a nation".. seriously, I don't consider myself from Spain at all. BUT the reason I don't like pride is because it simply leads, and it's the mayor reason of wars and stuff like that.

I suppose Pearl Harbor, United 93, World Trade Center and Zero Dark Thirty were "MURICA propaganda films" as well?

What's interesting is that this movie is even being made. Hillary Clinton lied about it being a terrorist attack and the left has been trying to sweep it under the rug. And Hollywood has always followed the left-wing agenda. So it should be interesting to see how this plays out. I was having a discussion with my mom about it the other day. I think the release date will be changed so as to avoid any damage it will do to the left.

Pearl Harbor is totally shitty. He doesn't make the best films, but I love them and find them entertaining. I'm hoping 13 Hours is more Zero Dark Thirty than Pearl Harbor in terms of tone. ZDT was awesome. Never seen Tora, Tora, Tora. But I know of it.

Yeah man. Easy to tag. You can do it right in iTunes.

It doesn't compress as well as FLAC, but for Apple enthusiasts ALAC is the way to go.

Be careful of fake 24bit files.
I've had several fake FLAC files that were stored in 24bit but were actually 16bit or 17bit.
FLAC will zero out the useless bits so it doesn't consume space, but ALAC won't. ALAC with 17-23 bit will store it fake data to consume space in 24bit.

Although, you would need to investigate what the real bit depth is.
In several albums I've downloaded, where there is only one 24bit file, so I check the bit depth and found out it's <24.

That's why Blu-ray is great! :D They play somewhat more similar to the film rate, 24fps, although BD goes 23.972!

Close. Off by .004 though.
Blurays from Region A (Canada, USA, Japan) will use 23.976 fps.
Region B (UK, Norway, etc) will often use 24 for film, 25 for natively filmed TV, or even just 50 (interlaced) for broadcast TV.

I've imported a bluray from Holland because it's Progressive and cheaper than anywhere else. It was even limited steelbook.
http://www.blu-ray.com/Rogue/28467/#Releases
The bluray isn't in USA, but in Canada the case says it's Progressive but it's actually interlaced.
If it's available in USA, it's probably imported from Canada.
The bluray from Holland was also in 24fps.

Although, I don't really see much of a difference between the two.

Lol, the US' DVDs are naturally better than anyone else's because they play at the correct frame rate.

You mean "Region 1".
Region 1 is seen in USA, Canda and a couple other places.

DVD not only has problems with speed conversions between different regions (notably North America and the UK), but also a higher rate of interlaced content compared to bluray having a higher rate of progressive content.
A lot of studios don't know what they're doing so will convert interlaced content as progressive and you're stuck with "combing" artefacts in the video, no matter what you do.
Another issue with is that it's possible to create a dvd with variable frame rates. Cartoons and tv series are famous for this.
The opening titles might be done at 23.976, while the rest of the show is actually in 29.97.
And if you put it to disc in interlace, the possibilities of variable frame rate just goes up.

There was even a great period in DVD history where everything that was 16:9 widescreen was put on the DVD as 4:3. So when you play it back, you get giant black bars on all 4 sides of the screen and a very little screen of actual video data.

I think bluray is really what helped smooth things out for dvd today.
You can still see bluray bundles with 3D-BD, 2D-BD, and DVD.
I don't watch the DVD's that come with them, but I'm sure they're mastered correctly today.

The biggest concern is the cartoons/TV thing.

"Turtles In Time" in Region 1 countries, are all edited versions.
There's a DVD you can get from the UK that is longer with more gags and runs longer than the edited version, but it's a real mess to look at.
It's interlaced, and it's not as easy as deinterlacing it.
Everything you do, it doesn't look right. Some interlacing crap still there. Frames look blended.

What's the difference, audiophiles?

The AAC is better. Much better. It's virtually lossless.

The MP3 looks like 128kbps, maybe 192.

:this:

But, 128 is way worse than that. 128 would introduce blocks and deterioate power levels.
In those two, the volume power is virtually the same. If you look at the colors. The slight spots of red would be gone in 128.
192, sure.

But, it really looks like it was cut-off more than anything else.
Really old settings.
Default settings for 320 today don't cut off at 16. They're more like 20 or a hard 21 (21,000) (not same as 21,500).

I'm looking out of curiosity at the HD-Tracks page of the Michael Jackson's Thriller album, and I see that this page offers the album in these options: Available in Audiophile 176kHz/24bit, 88kHz/24bit & DSD 2.8MHz. And I wonder.. not that I wanna be respectful.. but I'm gonna assume the people who want these.. it's because they are gonna work to high quality official studio remixes or anything because in my personal opinion, just for home listening I don't think the 176khz, or DSD 2.8MHz files will make any difference.. if they do, can anyone explain me what'd be the use?

tehƧP@ƦKlyANK -Ⅲ
11-10-2015, 05:49 PM
I would go with the 88/24 verison.

DSD is the real audiophile version. It's an extreme audiophile format.
Except, there's no 100% lossless way to convert DSD to FLAC (or other lossless formats). Something about the hardware limitations we have. Would need expensive gear to do a proper transfer.
You can check up on HydrogenAudio and Doom9 forums about the DSD format.

Anything from HDTracks.com can be fake 176 with hard cut off at 24 or 50 or something.
They like doing that.

DSD for editing.
88/24 for downloading then resample to 44.1kHz for listening.

The DSD should have actual high resolution details compared to HDTracks.
Unless you get lucky and they actually have something real.

PonyoBellanote

I'm not gonna buy it. I was just wondering what's the use of people of these high tech masters.. the difference is inaudible. I'd assume DSD is like, literally the tape master they use in studios.

Something like that.
It's used for SACD, according to wikiepedia.

I don't touch them normally. It's overshoot for any menial editing, imo.

Yeah, I hope we can get it added to the post editor, in some way, would be neat. The best part of the code is the "readonly" attribute, that forbids users to change content of the textform, so the only one which can technically (and royally :D) screw up is the user providing the password.

Personally, I'm not all too happy with having to rely on HTML and a tiny bit of JavaScript, but that's the best my limited knowledge can do for that kind of stuff.

Also, since school's been mentioned, I hold the opinion that place often ruins someone's thirst for knowledge, glad I messed with some HTML/JavaScript/PHP just for my own sake.

Remuxing bluray of Interstellar to convert scenes to 60fps now that SVP 4 is fully out.
Impressive updates, indeed.

SVP updated, eac3to updated, x264 encoder updated.
Can't wait to watch the scenes converted.

Through the wormhole is going to be exciting.

I need to figure out a way to create a hybrid of original fps and interpolated scenes.
On special effects scenes, switch to 60fps.

This would require the use of a video editor, but my thought would be to do a Wizard of Oz type of thing: our boring galaxy is 24fps, while the exciting galaxy beyond ours is 60fps.

I want to do that one day...

It's going to require a lot of research.

I think if MKV container is to be used, the frame rates, frame size, etc must all match.
So, I think for 23.976 to share same container with 59.94, I would need to use a tool to do a "pulldown" on the 23.976 to 59.94.
It would be like what you do with DVD's when you apply a 23.976 "pulldown" to 29.97 for DVD spec.

I'll have to test though.

And that's another good example!
Do the b/w scenes of OZ: The Great and Powerful in 23.976 then do the rest of the movie in 59.94!
That would be incredibly interesting to see.

Conversion makes it difficult, because the file containers have strict standards.

Playing back, I'm sure a simple avsiynth script can handle all this on the fly.

I should play around with a trailer.
>3 minutes should be perfect to experiment...

Man, there was a lot!

A lot of old ones with no active OP and dead links are closed.

There's still plenty more to do.
There's still all the TDK and BB threads.......

I used google search to find a bunch and scan threads for any reference to other threads/posts.

Going to do some avisynth editing with interstellar now.

and try find a bunch of end credits I wanted to post...

And find a file host.

Well, that took forever to trim the audio down and get the details right.

Trimming audio is one thing, but to get Windows to display the right file time and file size is another thing.
Added in one new option and it treated it like a new file. Without the option, it acted as if I kept all data after the first cut. :erm:

Now to watch the interpolated scene and convert it later.

It's a boxset that Disney JUST released, though the price is really yucky and prohibitive, 300$ damn. 260 over Amazon.

So I found a way to do a hybrid of 23.976fps & 59.94fps in MKV.

So far, I would think only playback on PC would work best.
TV, DVD, BD players would probably break playback.
Streaming might not work well either.

On a 23.976 untouched source, I just re-encode with x264 to create a new file but with a special "pulldown" flag to tell players to repeat frame count.
This is common for DVD encoding.
It doesn't actually repeat frames, it really just adds instructions of how to repeat frames on player.
I told it to play back as if it's on a 59.94 display.

Now I just mix the 23&59 fps encoded segments to make one continuous file for playback.

I did about 6 segments where it switches from 23.976+pd (with pulldown) for non-IMAX scenes, then when it switches to IMAX scenes, it's in 59.94.
Building these 6 segments to one file, it was able to play back in MKV without error. 23.976+pd looked exactly like 23.976. 59.94 looked exactly like 59.94.

With MKV files, the framerate, dimensions, and format need to match.
23.976,1280x720,H264/AVC

I'm doing 720p edits to make it faster. And using quicker encode settings.

I don't know how well this will work in MP4 container.

But, VLC played this just fine.

The next step is to test audio synch.

I can give you two:

- Ready to burn to CD straight out of the archive (provided there's a .cue).

- Every time I've compressed a WAV rip with WinRAR, it didn't end being that much bigger than the FLAC@Level 8 Compression, 7-10 MBs bigger, hardly a difference even when talking about upload.

That's the reason why I wanted to share this, honestly. Because it's a good quality rip of the official european Sony Classical release, loaded with almost every format, for everyone to choose the one that suits them the best, and don't forget the scans, logs, cue, and m38.

Having a perfect cd rip (LOG 100%, this includes test & copy, gaps appended, etc) combined with a proper cue file,
prooves that the audio is clean, whereas with a WEB version, it is impossible to proove if the audio is damanged/broken or
otherwise because there is no proof that the WEB source was clean.

If you really want to differentiate yourself from the WEB rip you'd use Test & Copy. This guarantees. Just listening
to it doesn't mean it's clean. I have a set of sessions and they sound fine but upon further inspection of the Waveform,
it is basdly damaged & rounded, with peak spikes everywhere.

Can try that if it'd make people 100% happy with the share.

When did i say it was a bad share? Never.

When did I say you couldn't voice your opinion? :)

Reminds me of a textbook answer, almost, what's there to tell you that they didn't simply grab the same files of the digital version and put them on a CD?

That's what I tried to hint at, I know some folks on Bandcamp did just that with their limited CD-releases. Well, screw you if you're simply gonna sell me a CD with auto-generated gaps, might have done that on my own. If we start to talk about mastering, we might have a long conversation, oh well, a topic for another time.

Mastering, CD, audiophile.. glad I don't understand much of that, because honestly that'd get me want the highest quality possible and I'd be able to see all the fails on my favourite scores that before I'd have thought they sounded fine. That doesn't mean I don't wanna know the basics, at least, though.

Oh, you might end up being disgusted at the work done on some of the earlier Japanese Video Game Soundtracks. What I'm sure of is that the proliferation of lossless made me lose interest in sharing my music collection, if you care that much about getting a rip done your way, buy the CD and rip it yourself.

Folks forget way too easily how great they have it that someone even thinks to share a part of his/her collection with them, truly worthless scum.

I have the European CD and could have ripped, scanned and posted it at any time but honestly I didn't see a point to
sharing perfect CD rips here. If there is one lossless version that's all there really needs to be, imo. Regardless of
where it came from.

Ehhh, I don't ask much when wanting FLAC, as long as the sound quality is retained. Scans are a thing I love, but it's not necesary.

You did a good buy, honestly I prefer this over the US digipack, it's kinda cheap and didn't like it. :P Though I do see your point.. maybe in other places they'd appreciate it but I dunno any else..

I do prefer FLAC when something's been released in CD. But I don't mind MP3 is someone has been greateful enough to share something I'm interested in that way, it's enough to me, I thank the uploader and go by that MP3 til I find a FLAC someplace else.

I'm forgetting I have also bought Pan. There's no FLAC Pan here, that may be "more appreciated" or more "new"

I do not bother upgrading, it takes more space. I hear no difference between any format.

This forum isn't really specialized for music sharing likes some private trackers out there. There is
no organization here, no dedicated search, trump system, links become unreliable, users disappear,
etc etc etc. Mainly the reason why I only share things that haven't been posted.

For example, the Tangled Complete Score, 46 tracks, I have it in FLAC. But it's already here in 320
so why bother posting my lossless version when most people will prefer mp3 anyways? :P

I do sometimes and others I don't, I guess it depends of the way the sound is "engined" in the CD.[COLOR="Silver"]

Do you know any better place I can be welcomed with these shares?

On the contrary, Zaralyth, I think the rules of this forum make it one of the last few (and best places) to share music, why? Because here mostly everything is welcomed, format-wise, we don't like elitist-pricks. I think we value the "thoughtful/human" aspect of the share.

Keep in mind that even the guy who posts a lossy encode still took the time to rip an album and upload it "for you", a bit of manners wouldn't hurt (not talking about you, specifically, I've a problem with the folks who deem a lossy share as trash, they forget the user might had very well kept it to him/herself).

Age plays a huge factor. The older you get, the less more response you lose.
The gear also has a factor.

The other factor wouldn't be how the CD was egnineered, it would be on the codecs used for lossy compression.

MP3 is the most common, but it's too easy to use outdated software with ancient codecs and ruin the audio.
Presets have also changed significantly since the code changed over the years.

I think that'd be my case in the difference with MP3 and FLAC. In some cases I've seen the difference sometimes, where to me, a FLAC of something I used to listen a lot in MP3, would sound, more clear to me, the sound, you can identify everything, if you're listening to the score, you can hear everything. I guess, once more, that it really depends on how the CD was mastered and how the compression is done. I've seen MP3's that were nice and had barely a difference compared to FLAC and came from CD.

If an MP3 is high-enough quality, like V0, 256, 320, it should sound indifferent to a FLAC, if the MP3 was made from that FLAC.
But like Spark said a few pages back, more lossy encodes such as 128 would start to cause blocks and power changes.

Also, compression can mean a couple different things. Do you mean to say, lossy data compression, or decibel compression?

I'd say decible compression, that's where is at. You don't lose sound quality for losing a bit of data, or do you? I guess it depends of how much is it compressed.

ew. dB compression...

If it were a movie, make it black and white in 4:3 aspect ratio with noise and tears then put it on an old timey channel.

FLAC uses lossless data compression. MP3 uses lossy data compression. As soon as you
start using lossy compression, you start losing quality.

Decibel or "dynamic" compression can also cause quality loss. Crushing dynamics is the
standard for mastering these days. This doesn't effect data, it just distorts and changes
the sound based on set parameters.
