Why buy food at the cinema?? I've never understood why people do that.

I dunno. I just love watching a movie with a bag of cheetos, but that's just me. I don't often buy them at the cinema but outside in any market.


As a university student, I get a discount which makes my average cinema ticket between �7/8. Sometimes more, depends what movie/showing/etc.

I have no specific discounts, just am lucky enough that my cinema, a ticket is just 6,90 euros, and in wednesday it's 3,90. Pretty good price. That's one of the many reasons why my cinema is so good, and if you guys could go, you'd love it as much as me, take my word for it.


@Ponyo - I want to see this cinema of yours you keep talking about. I don't remember you ever posting photos before. Did I miss them?

I don't have much photos of the cinema, other than just the snack/candy place that is situated right next to the ticket place, a picture of the huge amazing italian restaurant that it's in my cinema (which is inside a huge mall which has lot of other VERY good shops. Pizza, sport shop, bowling, caffeterias, meat place, and a gorgeous bakery where they have a delicious donut I haven't tasted in a wall. It's a big thing, really. And if that isn't enough, outside the mall, next to it, there's a Media Markt, a Decathlon, Toys R Us.. it's all situated, pretty much in "industrial polygon" literally translated from spanish. It's good stuff. But what I was saying. I only have pictures of those things I mentioned, AND some pictures of the screen of my cinema and sala. That's all I have from it, sadly!


@Killgrave - I'd get an iPhone if you use a Mac of any kind, particularly with iTunes etc. It all works so well together. And, as Ponyo made a point of, Apple are so aesthetically pleasing. For an artistically-minded person like myself I love how iOS looks and works. I find Androids so frustratingly ugly and institutional. Apple makes everything a work of art.

iOS devices are great, design and aesthetically pleasing, as you said, I really love how it works, but you forgot to mention their phones are extremely expensive (as is anything from them) and as much pretty it is I'm pretty tired of being closed, as in, with Android you're free to do whatever you want with your phone. It's all yours. Meanwhile with iOS, you're not that easy to do things you want to do that don't pass Apple's likeness, unless you jailbreak it. I adore iOS, and I will miss it dearly, but next time I'm going for an Android. A Huawei one, which tends to have a similar OS to iOs :P Never had an iPhone, only an iPod Touch which sadly is a bit broken atm. But I do want to have an iOS and an Android to have the best of both worlds so I'll look forward to find a way to fix it.

Agreed. Picture quality isn't incredible, but the sound is and that's one reason I'll never stop going to the cinema for a movie I'm really hyped about. No matter how hard you try, it's virtually impossible to replicate a cinema sound system at home, especially for those who can't even afford an HDTV.

Personally for me, I really find my cinema having a great picture quality. It's not just about the 2K HD but also about having a bigger screen so you can notice every single detail of the movie and get more in it, if you know what I mean. Personally I love SCOPE movies, and I love watching SCOPE movies in my cinema because it fits the screen perfectly and you see every frame and detail so good. I can't tell how good of a surround the cinema is compared to home cuz I haven't had one in years, but I'd see the difference is huge in both picture and audio, for me, at least.


About 3D - I only choose to view a movie in 3D if it's a genre that 3D will improve, such as a space movie. I saw The Martian in 3D, but so little actually takes place in space it was a slight disappointment. However the floating-around-the-ship scenes were pretty effective. I'm still waiting for somewhere to re-screen Interstellar & Gravity in 3D, as I missed both of those. The day I get to finally go through the wormhole in IMAX 3D will be a very good day.

I love 3D in general, I just really love the experience and things popping out. I will always go to 3D if I have the choice - but lately it's been SO dissapointing for me. Like, nothing reminds me I'm watching a 3D movie, I'm not sure if it's my cinema having a bad 3D (RealD3D) or it's just how the 3D is, because people say THE JUNGLE BOOK (2016) had a great 3D and I don't remind anything outstanding from it, really.

Why buy food at the cinema?? I've never understood why people do that. Just eat before you go in or after you come out. Afterwards is fun - you can discuss the movie over a meal. Eating is such a distraction from the movie anyway, and if your mind is focusing on what you're watching, your stomach isn't in the right place to be digesting food. It's actually not good for you (the fact it's all junk food doesn't help either). And it costs to buy food at the cinema! Why add more to the already-high cost of your overall movie-going experience? It's a no-brainer to me.

I know, it's ridiculous. 99% of the time even the popcorn is gross. I like having a drink during the film but that's it. And whenever I want to have some water for during a film, I always have to sneak it into the theater because I don't want to pay 3 dollars to buy theirs (at my theater you're not allowed to bring your own water or food!)

On an entirely different matter: I'm thinking of joining the 21st century in regards to cellphones and finally upgrading to a smartphone.



I keep getting weird looks whenever I use my dumb phone in public. So, any recommendations from smartphone users would be appreciated: Iphone, Android, Samsung, etc ... what's been your experience, what would you recommend and what brand or service provider do you keep going back to?

iPhone. My first smartphone was a Droid Incredible II, made by HTC. Got it in January of 2012. I went with that one because it was cheap and for some stupid reason I cannot explain other than me being ignorant, I hated Apple at the time. I don't know why, I think it's just because they were so popular and it's the phone that everybody had.

Fast forward 2 years and 8 months later and I was so fed up with that damn phone. I was done. I had made up my mind months earlier that I would be getting the iPhone 6 come it's release in September. 2 weeks before I got it, my droid went airborne on the Thunderbolt when my friends and I did Coney Island for the day. I never saw it again. God speed.

Now I'm the happiest person alive. I love my iPhone. The speed, the design of iOS, all the features it has, everything it does that a droid/Samsung does not. And I already knew how to handle an iPhone because I've had a 2nd generation iPod touch since April 2010 and she's still going strong. The only difference between the 2 is that one is a phone, the other is not. And also this model iPod touch didn't have a camera yet.

My upgrade is due in October (since I got the 6 in October 2014, 2-year contract), and I was going to get the 7. But there's rumors Apple is planning something big next summer for the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. And, I just shelled out $80 2 weeks ago to replace the battery on my 6. I can definitely make this baby last another year - I ain't done with her yet.

So that's my schpeal/argument on iOS vs anything else. Please, get an iPhone. It doesn't have to be the biggest and latest model (which would be the 6s Plus), just get a decent model. I'd say no earlier than a 5 or 5s. And if you happen to have a Mac, they go hand-in-hand with each other. Even if you don't, that's ok. I have my 2009 Macbook Pro and my iPhone 6. I will never go back to PC/android again.

I got Mad Max Fury with the panasonic UB900, the apport of the UHD + HDR + BT2020 is fabulous , the evolution regarding the bluray is impressive , the picture is very closer of the reality, the contrast and the color space wide match more than ever with what see ours eyes, next step 8K and we will can't see difference between a screen and the reality with OLED who has infinity black, but flagsship LCD with micro dimming is pretty good with black too and better regarding the light.

I'm gonna need 100080p and Super Ultra Sharp DX-XP HD-Supreme for all of my movies now.

8K would need better technology to upscale image.
It would need to cost 3x more than what the most expensive 4K costs today.

What we need is a new medium that isn't restricted to only YV12 colorspaces.
10bit is a nice step.
Except the HEVC codec is more for newer movies.
Most of the current encoders for HEVC that have been tested are known to cause a blur to the picture quality.
That will help with reducing banding, which will make 10bit more valid.

But, older movies that thrive off of film grain probably won't transfer well in HEVC.
Not for another 5 years. Probably 10 years. Or something arbitrary.

They ought to be putting the recent animated DCU films in UHD-BD/HEVC.
Kill ALL the banding!
Animation in the past 10 years have turned out rather clean. Probably why there's so much banding in every bluray.

I saw Deadpool yesterday in bluray UHD, this movie is my favorite and the picture is amazing.

Man, I watched Spider-Man 2.1 last saturday in the living room, since they had the big fancy TV. Even though it was only 1080p, the picture was brilliant. It made me wonder what it would be like if we had a 4K TV.

Unfortunately, my parents would never go for it, because: 1). They simply don't have the money for it, and 2). They wouldn't notice or care for the difference, since they're in their mid life and still use composite cables because they don't care that much.

Believe me, I m a quality addict and the difference between HD / UHD is not only the resolution, it's the HDR / BT2020 ( new space color) so the image is brillant , the color are more realistic, the dynamic is uncomparable, the colors are just for the first time in home video. The aim is to be the most closer of the reality and it's clearly the good way, it's not just a better resolution, bluray UHD deliver us a true image of reality.

After it s a bit difficult to see normal movie even in HD but new UHD will come soon.

Exactly, but honesty it is so different, it matters not. I adore the series and this movie in no way changed that. It was just a fun film about a gang of home guard trying to stop a german spy. :laugh:

Probably nothing in terms of visual quality. lorddsp is almost certainly lying when he says he can tell the difference between HD and UHD. Either he's got the gamma or brightness turned up or he has the eyes of a hawk, because I doubt any human can perceive the difference.

The first voice featured in the trailers happened to be one of my favourite voices ever, so sweet and I felt like it was her character in spanish voice, but sadly it got scrapped and changed for a worse voice.. which.. was better voicing Merida in Brave but as Judy Hopps she's on and off sometimes, is not very stable imo.

Well, I do speak it better than I do writing it. It doesn't help that I used Google Translate because I'm out of the house at the moment. If I was at home, I could've wriiten something better.

My time in Spanish Class was not the best. I liked the start of it, but I really grew to dislike it. It was second tier, meaning there were things that I didn't quite understand. The Spider-Man ones have been very understandable. Granted, it might be because I already know the films, but I felt they did a good job of making it understandable.

What they didn't do well was making subtitles for the dub, since it's of the translation of the english instead of matching the dub. Also, having the grunts and yells staying the same as the original.

Nothing wrong. The subs are suposed to be a literal translation of a movie unlike the dub.

HDR / BT2020 ( new space color)

Bt2020 has been around for awhile now but just recently been made available to the public market.

HDR is just a meta tag. Which will be lost entirely once they get drives for PC so people can rip them to computer.

From a video processing standpoint, it's something to really play with.
Downscaling a 4K source for a nice 720p would be divine. Converting to interpolated frame rates would be divine using a 4K source.
The colorspace will have to be converted down to Bt709. Unless I use tags and profiles to configure Bt2020, but Bt709 is the most compatible. I've not one single device that can accurately display 2020.
But this will still be better than starting out with an already compressed Bt709 colorspace. Considering the source is also 10bit, which is what Bt2020 needs.
HDR is the real marketing gimmic as it's only compatible with the player, the original disc, and an HDR TV.
Or who knows, maybe the whole marketing department got HDR wrong and it's really just the 10bit/BT2020 that is needed for HDR TV's to do their own HDR expanding. Most TV's have their own filtering and post-processing anyway. LG 3D TV's can convert any 2D source into a 3D picture with reasonable quality (as most 3D movies are not filmed entirely in 3D --- I said "most", so Avatar and The Hobbit movies fall into the opposite of "most" which is the remaining "some" -- for those who speed read).

I have not watched 13 Hours yet. The lead actor, John Krasinski, is from The Office series and he usually plays a comedy role most of the time and he's not been that buff before.
This will be very different to see him in a more serious role.
He's married to Emily Blunt, which is fantastic to hear.

Stay away from spanish dubbing, it's very hard to understand, because both latinoamerican and castillian spanish dubs are most of the time full of speech patterns and stuff that they use, you wouldn't get it.

(It's the reason for Hochdeutsch or high German) Over on this side of the pond there's rate in which Mexicans and Puerto Ricans speak. Don't expect anything special for audio. They're all the same.

When it comes to importing music, Smartphones are easier as you don't have to worry about iOS fucking up your sync.
With iOS, you really need to invest time and effort to not only the phone, but the programs you have installled on your Mac machine. One wrong setting and everything changes. Or even an iOS update will change your life.
With Smartphones, you don't need software to transfer files. Relying on software is what causes problems in most cases.
AAC in m4a containers are compatible with the proper media player.
Some media players you can get for free on the Android market are crap. There are better ones for free, even VLC.
Take the time to look up reviews and follow up with the site and google what people are saying about the media player.
Some programs have "audiophile" support, but that's more for USB and other connections. I got Neuron Player because it supports ReplayGain. Which is the biggest feature. It's got crap for decoding to 64 floating point and 32 floating point, but 32fp is enough for lossy decoding. It's got a couple other "audiophile" features but not worth the battery power to use them.
With Android and media players, there's the option to use the phone's drivers or use legacy drivers. YMMV.

This is because it's all open source and literally anyone can make an app for the Android.
A monkey can create a "battery saver" app or a "light" app using your screen to light up on command, which just might have additional, malicious code that hackers will use against you to steal data or anything else they want.

The Android app market has made the news before for warnings of viruses and trojans and other malware.

But, that's really not news at all if you consider how open development is.
The same can happen with any Windows application. Anyone can take an open source library and compile FLAC.exe with extra code for malicious intent.

Apple is more constrained to app development. And viruses are not that common on Apple environments.
So there's that security assurance you have with Apple.
Unless you keep sensitive data on your iPhone and someone hacks your cloud storage and passwords looking for Jennifer Lawrence nudes.

Games and applications will definitely vary widely on both systems.
You don't need to worry much if you're going iPhone.
If you're going Android, really take a day to research the apps first instead of blind installs.
The Google market doesn't really have any protocols for rigorously testing software for viruses or malware. They're largely non-regulated so anyone can become a developer and add their virus to the market without anyone being the wiser until they learn the hard way.

I want a Huawei smartphone. They seem to me the most trustworthy. The ones you pay full price, and you get what you paid for, unlike some overrated (Sony, Samsung.. and Apple, almost. if only they lowered the fucking price..) But honestly, all I want in a smartphone is a 1920x1080 screen, nice storage, pretty Android OS, and most importantly.. I don't like damn thin phones. I want something like the iPhone 5, which has, like, a well, squared corners and all.

But nah, mom says I have a damn working phone (which is a piece of shit) a Nokia Lumia 520. I want a phone that actually isn't damn slow and is open and I can do whatever the hell everyone else does, damn it. Is that much to ask? To have a good phone, just one? I don't even want a 600 euros phone. There's lots of Huawei that are GREAT MARVELOUS phone for half the price and offer almost the same quality as a 600 euros one.

That's what my 5C is starting to do. It's always been a good phone, until around recently. It's started to slow down and became less responsive.

I assume this is because Apple designs every iPhone to become slow after a certain amount of software updates (say if iOS 9 was for the iPhone 7, by iOS 10 or 11, depending how fast they release, it will be slower, sometimes very slow, therefore making you want to purchase the 'newest iPhone')

As I might've said before, my parents are pretty tight on money, preferring to use it on things that keep us alive (food, water, gas, clothing, etc.). So whenever we do get some form of technology (TV, Smartphone, Tablet, etc.), it's always on the much cheaper side ($250-500). It doesn't really matter to them how well they perform or the capabilities it contains, just as long as it's functional and doesn't break, we'll be fine. As a result, I never could figure out what is the best of the best without asking my brother in law, who really knows his stuff.

In regards to phones, I currently have an LG Volt 2, which does the job well enough. The only real issue I have with it is it's storage, considering how phones are very picky in regards to moving apps to the SD Card, and even then, it's only a partial movement, with a good chunk of it staying on the internal. This is because apparently, companies think we can lose the data easier that way if it's a complete moving, even if the card is secure. Oh well. I at least appreciate the current Android firmware allowing this to be an option, but only on select phones, of course.

I have canceled independence day 2 , the score is flat and make me feeling nothing, hope the movie will be great nevertheless.

The ID4 was pretty stupid but for a Emmerich movie that's nothing new.

He and Michael Bay periodically mud wrestle to see whose film is a greater insult to the audience's intelligence.

There are a lot of serious movie, but a blockbuster is perfect for pop corn party, this is the only aim and ID4 is perfect in this case, funny, stupid and so funny.

Yes, I have taken a glance at the original trilogy, too. I've grabbed every big console game soundtrack for Spyro that I could, today. But I like The Legend of Spyro a lot too! I can't help it. The story and characters is amazing! So much fallen potential for a movie. :) Though an official release of the original PS1 games would be nice mostly for studio quality.

So I've made my first purchase of a Hi-Res file, with Jess & Crabbe's Remix of Kardek's "I Want You," in 24 bit 48 khz. Unfortunately, it seems very poorly handled. The frequencies are cut off at 13 khz, with a couple escaping throughout the song. To make matters worse, the mp3 I had gotten beforehand seems to be higher in frequency as well. Lastly, "Crack Head," another track from Jess & Crabbe, is at 18 khz, which is higher even though it's an .m4a. What a cluster.

I only bought it because I was curious. As much as I'll never know the difference, I've seen artists put more effort into the Hi Res releases, like Daft Punk. This feels like they put in an incomplete master before finishing it. I'll buy the normal FLAC 44.1 khz version sometime down the road, since that's closer to lossless. I imagine that one was a different master.

There's a lot of room for error when preparing hi-res audio for sale. Best just to stick with the normal Redbook audio. The human ear can't tell a difference anyway.

Indeed. As I'm listening, the 24 bit flac file sounds like a broken, static radio. The 16 bit mp3 file sounds like it was given proper care for use on CD.

I could deal with it. It's not VERY demanding either. :P

I agree, there are just a few 3D effects but the picture is deep and several scene with the train for exemple are great.

In the rainforest it is pretty cool too.

I'm considering getting the white Sony Hybrid ear tips for earphones. I was looking for ear tips a while back when I decided that the stock ones that came with each pair I bought weren't really doing it.

The first ones I bought were these multi size ones, that had various options, including triple flange ones, which I've never worn before. Though they were good at the time, they started to feel worse than the stock tips, feeling insanely unfortunately and made me think my ears were itchy. Oh well. Back to the old ones.

I had considered Comply, but considering the prices, the limited durability, and the fact I didn't like the sport ones that came with my Brainwavz didn't sell me.

So I was looking for alternatives, when I found Sony had their own Hybrid tips for sell in a neat package. The item was going out of print at the time and only really had few units left. So I saw B&H Photo had a good price and decided to buy them. They quickly became my go to for when I get earphones. They felt very comfortable and didn't alter the sound. I decided to stick with them. What helped was that my Sony XBA H-1 at the time came with extra tips, including ones that had foam inserts. Sweet.

Then for whatever reason, I decided to buy Monster tips from either Office Depot or Staples after I saw them and became very curious. Those were the worst $25 bucks I could've ever wasted. Though they looked nice, they had a weird shape, felt strange (due to the usage of gel and foam properties), and most didn't really fit. With all the others, I could say that they all fit me, even if some could fit me better than others. With this Monster package, most gave my ear pain. Shame, considering they had visually appealing looks. That can really describe Monster / Dre Beats in a nut shell: pretty, but not functioning well.

I had stuck with my Sony ones for a while afterwards. Eventually, I started my usual search of looking for earphones I don't need. Some looked really pretty, but the color choices were brighter than the ones I've had in recent time. I realised that the black ones were too basic for me and wanted a more nicer color. I had recalled the white ones looking nice. So I began looking for the same brand, but I realized that they were now fully out of print, even from where I bought it. So I went eBay shopping and found them.

Should I get them? It's only $10, which I feel is a fair price. Considering that I still have many lying around, I probably shouldn't, but I still want them.

Also, another re-release of Watchmen? Jesus, they don't know when to stop. I almost bought that Novel+Ultimate Cut box they had on discount before realizing I should watch the movie before buying it. Lord knows just how much that Jurassic Park set is being sat on by other items, never being properly used outside of UltraViolet. I seriously need to watch those films.

I ripped a lot of DVD on the server so my daughter can play movie directly from her TV it's more simple than a player and faster.

From my side I use it to play MP3 in all my house, on TV and on my computers when I m in the bath etc.

But for hi res audio I prefer to plug direcly my computer on my audio processor and the mostly time I hear lossless with headphone, I have a Sennheiser HD 800 + DAC and amplifier directly plugged on my computer.

You should have a NAS like Synologie or a router who is DLNA, from my side I use my router as DLNA server and I plug several HDD directly on USB port, it's work fine like that, nothing to setup.

And on client side, when the server is up you have to go on the dlna part of your tv or player and choose the dlna server, it's very easy.
