5... FIVE... terabyte SeaGate external.

Yeah it's SG but it's the same price I've been paying for the 4TB SG's years ago!
What a sale!

Also finally got X-Men DOFP Rogue Cut on bluray. Took forever for them to get it.
Now I got the theatrical version and the RC!

Now to just get the UHD-BD version when that comes out and I can do nasty things to it after dark. :169:

Thanks.

The bad guys forgot two important things:

1: NEVER fuck with a man's car.

2: NEVER, EVER harm a man's dog.

Seriously, though, the film succeeded because it went "R", gave the audience well choreographed action sequences plus a sympathetic hero, a despicable villain(s), a well released world in which John Wick operates - the hotel, the gold coins, the rules - and populated the film with an excellent supporting cast: c'mon, Willem DaFoe, Ian McShane and Lance Reddick.

Those guys could read Ikea assembly instructions and I'd watch them do that.

David Newman should have a decent score to it.
The production value for it being a CG movie looks delapitated. Like a starter company.

The Legend of Tarzan (2016) will have Rupert Gregson-Williams.
It should be interesting to give both a listen (whenever the RG-W version comes out).

i can see that going south very very quickly.

Kong: *noises*
Tarzan: "Jim??" (the apes name he grew up with, i dont know their names but Jim it is)
Kong: *makes sad noises and sad gestures*
Tarzan: "What did they do to you?"

* flashback sequences of mad scientist capturing the ape and experimenting that eventually leads up to the ape growing 100x its natural size *

Mad scientist: "Because test audiences felt it would be a really small origin movie they've seen a hundred times, I brought this lizard as a plot device with more plot holes. Oh and it also grew larger than normal..."

David Newman's score for the CG one is really lovely, if it's your style. Here are three cues that show the different moods in the film:

Growing Up (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYpLMPAU_j8)
Montage sequence

Jane and Dad (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AKK11owf64)
One of the most emotional scenes in the film (that oddly enough has nothing to do with Jane or her dad). The scene where Tarzan discovers the wreckage of the helicopter that crashed when he was a small boy, killing his parents, and all the memories come flooding back. This really is a beautiful cue.

Tarzan In Camp (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSiVaUXSFbw)
This is one of the lighter cues, from one of the more humorous scenes, that showcases the main theme nicely.

Have a listen and see what you think. :)

Writer Philipp Jose Farmer did "adult" versions of the classic pulp age heroes - Doc Savage, The Shadow, Tarzan, and in the case of the Lord of the Jungle came to the correctly reasoned conclusion that Tarzan would have sex with apes considering Tarzan was raised by and along side the great apes. He would see them as equals.

He also had Doc Savage wearing ring knives which the good Doctor used to castrate his opponents.

Good stuff, that.

I obviously missed the post so I will ask the stupid question: apply for what and where? Japan? Doing what?

You didn't miss much at all. That's all I've said here.

But I'll enlighten you all, if you're really that interested. My degree course gives a few selected students the opportunity of a lifetime - to go and study for 3 1/2 months at the Nagoya University of Foreign Studies (NUFS) in Nagoya, the third largest city in Japan. The reason this is such a unique opportunity is because NUFS basically pay for these students to go. All living/accommodation expenses are paid for with an 80,000 (8,600) scholarship per student. Plus, any student finance received here in the UK for students continues as normal, and so can instead be used as extra living money for Japan. This will enable the students to be able to explore Japan, to a certain extent. Visits to Tokyo, Kyoto, etc will be perfectly possible, including travel on the Bullet train.

There are four places this year, and each applicant has to submit a 500w essay on why they want to go and what they think they'll get out of it. The four applicants will be decided anonymously based on the essays.

Before I answer about Japan let me take issue with your characterization of Americans as "racist." If you are basing that opinion on the Trump candidacy and the crowds he is attracting you are drawing the wrong conclusion. Trump is an demagogue who is appealing to the worst instincts to about a third of Americans: mostly hard core Republicans, some Libertarians and blue collar Democrats and his primary rallying cry is against illegal immigration and immigrants.

And like most demagogues he is blaming one segment of society for all the troubles and problems in America, whether those problems are real or imaginary. And that draws like minded people who want a scapegoat to blame for their lack of success in life. It can be a powerful political tool, one which Europe is well acquainted with. Right now Europe is witnessing the rise of right wing parties in France, Germany, Denmark, Poland, Sweden and Greece because of the influx of refugees and a growing anti-EU movement.

Your avatar lists Spain as your current location. Surely, you haven't forgotten what Franco did to Spain and its people. I lived outside Madrid, near Torrejon so I know of Spain's fascist history.

So, before anyone, especially from Europe starts tossing around the words "American" and "racist", look to thine own land first.

Now, on to Japan. Far from perfect. Taken as a whole it is not as liberal as it might appear. I would say the country skews center right. The Japanese, similar to the Germans, like order and discipline. It's still in many ways a patriarchal society, women are not equal with men.

Most organized folks I have ever met. Punctual to a fault. Country is incredibly safe. Not unusual to see five year olds take the train or bus to school by themselves but usually in a group. The group in Japan is more important than the individual because it still has a very powerful Social Eye and there is tremendous pressure to conform. Japanese saying: the nail that sticks out gets hammered.

The schools are excellent with the goal of high schoolers to get into one of the major Universities. Get into one and your chances of having a good financial future have just increased. So high school can become a hell of studying because testing determines entrance to the University system. (The stories of Japanese college students letting loose after years of studying are practically legendary.)

Japan does have one of highest suicide rates in the industrialized world. Suicide, because of the samurai tradition, doesn't carry the stigma it does in the West. Throwing oneself in front of trains was a preferred method of death to the point that the JR - Japan Rail - posted signs at its stations that if you commit suicide your family pays for damage and clean up costs.

And after graduation the pressure to succeed and excel doesn't stop, it continues. In Japan people have died from overwork, it's called karōshi. And Japan, like Europe, has problems with xenophobia, the downside to having a homogenous society.

On the upside the Japanese tend, by and large, to be a friendly and helpful people, especially if you try speaking their language. (I got lost in Tokyo and after communicating my plight to a Japanese shopgirl in my rudimentary Japanese she literally took me by the hand and pointed me in the correct direction.) The Japanese are fascinated by Westerners so don't be surprised if Japanese school kids come up to you and practice their English on you. Their public transportation systems are first rate but can get packed so avoid taking the trains and subways during the rush hours to and from work. (And if you're seated, be polite and give up your place to the elderly or infirm. Stuff like that get's noticed.)

Healthcare is excellent. A colleague underwent back surgery in a Japanese hospital. Had his own room and was out and about in a couple of days.

And the country is beautiful. In Tokyo Akihabara is electronics/manga/anime/otaku HQ. Roppongi is the center for nightlife. (If you see guys looking like they stepped out of an 80's gangster movie, they're probably Yakuza. They control the Roppongi. Gone legit.) Ginza is the famous shopping area. And yes, Japan is expensive but not as much as it once was. But still not cheap. (If you're on the town I recommend stopping at a grocery store and buying a box lunch. It's the cheaper way to go. (And check out the fish section. You'll see fresh fish swimming in containers and there is usually a fishmonger there to prepare it according to your wishes: gut it, remove the tail and head, etc . . .)

And the cities are not Japan. See the countryside and how rural Japan can be. (Japan has its version of hicks and rednecks as well. No banjos, but there are shamisens.)

So I hope this helps.

P.S. And obey the law in Japan, because law and order are no joking matter, especially for outsiders. Japan does not have a jury system the way the U.S. does, most cases are still decided by a judge - although that is slowly changing - and there is a 97% conviction rate. The jails are no fun either.

going to Japan?

Save up and buy one of their "36 bit MGVC Blu Ray" players. (standard tv is 24-bit / 8-bits per channel: R, G, B)
It's the only place in the world to buy them and the only players that will play their "MGVC" bluray discs.
http://www.avsforum.com/forum/114-hdtv-software-media-discussion/1486405-36-bit-mgvc-blu-ray-only-japan.html

MGVC = MASTER GRADE VIDEO CODING

I think what they did was use:
AVC+MVC for two sets of 2D video.
MVC is normally used for "MULTI VIEW CODING". Which allows 3D viewing.
AVC = 2D / Left Eye data
MVC = 3D / Right eye data

But the way Japan tweaked it...
AVC = 2D / main video data
MVC = 2D / EXTRA video data
Combine both and you get a superior viewing experince you'll never see anywhere else.

Several Studio Ghibli titles on those fancy MGVC blu-rays.
My Neighbor Totoro, Grave of the Fireflies, Kiki's Delivery Service & Only Yesterday
Spirited Away has been upgraded to MGVC recently since that forum post.

Although, you probably need a fancy tv to actually see it.
Otherwise, it will look just like a fancy remaster....................

I wonder if daredevil season 2 will get a soundtrack release, hopefully with more tracks. Compared to DC's score for flash and other scores for other television series I felt that we got butchered with the daredevil release because we only got 14 tracks just almost like one track for episode and like the DC soundtracks usually have 20 to 30 tracks in them from the entire season. It was only like 50 minutes of music, call me greedy but I don't mean to be just stating my thoughts. I'm hoping we get at least an hours worth of music for season two

You have no idea. (Or maybe you do.) My friend Carlos is the general manager of a movie theater. When you book a Disney film, its take of the box office for the first few weeks is 100%. At times Disney also wants a cut of the concession profits - which is where theaters generate their profit. It's not on the box office unless the film has "legs" and then you'll start making money off the ticket stand.

At times Disney also wants a cut of the concession profits - which is where theaters generate their profit. It's not on the box office unless the film has "legs" and then you'll start making money off the ticket stand.

No other studio does things like that? Just Disney? If that's true, wow. Why be so greedy when Disney is the biggest company ever? They win millions every single day

Killgrave

It cuts against the family friendly image Disney has so carefully crafted over the decades. When HD-DVD and Blu-ray were battling it out for format supremacy, Disney went Blu-ray because the porn industry had made HD-DVDs its format of choice.

Find a copy of Harlan Ellison's "The Glass Teat" and read his recollections of his one day employment at Disney. It'll give you a morbid chuckle.

And it's Capitalism baby, and big money - to paraphrase those immortal Canadian rockers Rush - ain't got no soul.

Yes. The islands are the products of volcanic activity. The bedrock of the island is so hard construction crews use plastic explosives to create holes to place the beams that support buildings.

I had to buy it to experience why there was so much salt about Color Splash. Trying to emulate it with Project64 is a hell; and there's no other way so I had to buy it. It's okay. Doesn't have the quality a PC emulator can give, but has accuracy. It's better than nothing.

I am attracted by RPG, I'm just too clumsy and dumb for them. Also. This is far from your typical RPG, it is very very easy

Bit of a list, and outdated as hell, but figured what the hell?

Monster Hunter 4 - Ultimate (3DS):
Last I played was on PS2, really enjoying it even if the screen is a bit small.

Dragon Ball Long Ass Name (3DS):
Fun, if shallow, 2D fighting game. Like GG Lite.

Mario Kart 7 (3DS):
Love it!

LoZ: Ocarina Of Time (3DS):
Never really game it a chance the first time around, but I'm enjoying it thus far.

Persona Q (3DS):
MOAR plz!

SSB (3DS):
Still enjoyable, even portable, though none of the new characters really 'grab' me.

Pokemon Y (3DS):
I do love the new visuals, last PKMN game I played a lot of was a DS one.
-Have all my EEVEEs!

Donkey Kong Country Returns (3DS):
Loved it on the Wii, love it again on the 3DS.

I love the Series, but i can't get myself to buy a (New)3DS until they release a Castlevania Game on it.

Which i am pretty positive is not gonna happen anymore, or any Castlevania Games for that Matter.

Star Wars: Episode I, The Phantom Menace in 3D was kind of cool, but when standard 2D is an option, that's what I usually want to choose.
