Dear all,
I have worked out how to complete alot of the scores (Shada and Genesis) and am delighted to say that I should hopefully have Shada finished by the end of the day if I can work out specific track names.

Beevers

Hope to see the results of your works soon!

I recently discovered a link to all the big finish releases upto october 2017

https://mega.nz/#F!1HwhFTYC!wu6jSbfw6ZKpy_X26nrLsg!NH4wRDrR

The link has been removed now, so you can no longer get anything from this source.

I am however going away tomorrow and as yet have been busy packing to go and so I will probably finish it when I get back from holliday.

Has anyone figured out which episodes the cues collection called "The Dudley Assassin" are from? I know track one is from Robot and that's it

I don't think they were intended for specific episodes, just to be used as cues when the Tom Baker episodes were dubbed into French.

If you're after an official release for series 1, it doesn't exist. All we got was a combined release for the first two series, with series 1 mostly being represented by cues recorded with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales when originally it was only samples, so no original music from that series has ever been released.

Beavers Master would like suggestions for track names for the Shada 2017 album. There are over 40 tracks. I have a few names from the DVD chapter listing

I personally think they should be based of the scenes it comes from. Makes it easier.

True but names for the scenes would be great. The 2017 DVD and Blu-Ray doesn't have chapter names

I think it's better if Beavers Master watches the Story and where the sound track comes from, name them based off of the scenes they come from. We can give names, but it's going to give him even more work to find what scenes we are talking about.

This is just my opinion.

I took a nice break. Now back to these.

Personally, I think the score for "Night Terrors" is quite stellar, some of my favorite horror pieces by Murray. The track, 'Dad', seemingly performed by the BBC National Orchestra (whereas the rest is a small acoustic group a la "the Lodger") is a highlight to me and is lovely to hear again in the "Angels take Manhattan." Definitely worth a listen!

The score for "The Girl Who Waited" is kind of a mixed bag for me, unfortunately. The original stuff, peppered with Omnisphere patches, is lovely and I really enjoy most of it, but unfortunately quite a bit of the rest is tracked from previous episodes, and in my opinion it very much overuses 'I am the Doctor.' Even so, mostly great stuff, and admittedly it's great hearing a bit of 'Loving isn't Knowing' in there again.

Ah, "The God Complex." This one was luckily extremely clean in the surround channels, and it's an extremely creative score, to say the least. Overall, fantastic composition and great instrument choices make this one worth a go.

Hope you all enjoy!

Oh, and here's a little bonus thing I put together using the Epic Toms Ensemble and Omnisphere 2. Definitely not perfect, I know, but hopefully enjoyable nonetheless!

Wow, thanks Zak! Can't wait to revisit those scores after so many years!

Also, I've been searching through some music copyright sites and came across a load of Murray Gold cue lists! (Murray never titled any of the cues, so it's all just numbers, but still nonetheless fascinating)

Wish I could listen to those cues. Are those like unreleased?

None of the music is actually contained on the sites, it's just the titles. Obviously, some of it is available on the respective series soundtracks, but it would be very hard to figure out which they are. It's just interesting to know how many cues there are in each episode, and seeing how accurate the divides/numbers are in the rips. Although, I'm not sure whether these are what is actually in the episodes or was composed for them.

These are isolated Soundtracks (the best of my ability) from episode 1 of 'The Ark in Space'.

Not yet. We have to wait for Zak103 to get to those, but seeing as he's recently posted up to The God Complex, it probably wont be too long until they get to those.

ok thanks I got The Invasion and The Five Doctors soundtracks today. Looking at the past posts about The Invasion and how much much was made for it, people said it was about 10 mins. According to the booklet it's 32 mins - 4 minutes worth of music for 8 episodes. I tried to upload a picture but maybe the file is to large (?)

I am watching Planet of Giants in Arabic (as one does), and realised that the soundtrack is completely different to the English version. Has anybody looked into the source of the alternative compositions? I'm guessing they are stock tracks and not especially composed for the dub.

UPDATE: the track at 21:30 episode one is definitely Erich Sendel's Astronautics Theme pt 2, as heard in the Tomb soundtrack, so that's one down at any rate!

UPDATE: I've uploaded the music cues here for those who might be able to spot the more recognisable ones

My editing software's been a bit rubbish as of late, but I finally have the rest of Series 6 for you all.

The score for 'Closing Time' was seemingly recorded by the same small acoustic orchestra that recorded 'The Lodger,' which is quite interesting. The score itself is quite good, a bit run-of-the-mill at times but overall quite nice. Worth a listen to be sure.

One thing's for sure, Murray went all out on the score for 'The Wedding of River Song,' and it's quite spectacular. As with most finales to this point most of the music has been recorded with the BBC National Orchestra, and the actual composition is stellar here. The callbacks to 'The Big Bang' are lovely, and the track that shares the episode's name is a definite highlight. For sure, worth a listen!

The bonus disc will follow shortly, as I'm just working out a few extra bits, then onto Series 7!
Hope you all enjoy!

Best to actually support the classic releases by purchasing them. They're really cheap, and it helps to ensure that more will be released. Plus I won't be adding any uploads to the index post, in support of the releases. You wont find the other recent classic series releases on here for a reason.

GinjaNinja

I concur - I'd urge people to not upload/download the new soundtracks and instead support the official releases. The continuation of the Silva Screen range may be the only way for us to hear the unreleased music from many classic stories.

I agree with CGCJ AND GinjaNinja sorry Crashheadroom and Mortadelo. I got the CDs on Saturday, I ordered them from Screen Archives Entertainment. I ripped them in MP3 320 I spent over an hour labelling the tracks . Invasion has 44 and Five Doctors has 80. Also scanned the booklets

Nope, if Don Harper was still alive to receive even a PIECE of the money then I would have actually bought it, he is not. So I boycott and if I see something from my youth, something the present group of disgusting human beings incharge of the company had NOTHING to do with then yes I will try to download it :). Here's the bonus disk for Series 6, featuring album versions, Adventure Games suites, and also several live performances from the Symphonic Spectacular concerts (touched up from pretty poor quality source audio, but they're rather nice and sound very different to the originals.) Series 7 is on the way, much sooner than later!

Zak103's rip of Girl in the Fireplace features the full score for that ep, using all of the clean tracks and ripping the last one from the DVD.

The Master Tape tracks can be found in his Series 1 Bonus folder, as well as edited how they play in the specific episodes (cuts out some material, as not all was used).

It is different I've noticed, probably a similar instance to how the Pilot Theme that exists has no thunderclap sound.

yeah. btw since i did look for the pilot studio recording video, i did find 2 different takeoff sounds before the bbc finalized it for the actual pilot that they edited on dvd and i did extracted it by mixing the pilot beeps and hum that was from the 50th boxset and the studio recording audio together.

The score for "The Doctor, the Widow, and the Wardrobe," is very good. I say there are better this season, certainly, but overall it's a great orchestral score that's also great to hear live. (https://vimeo.com/39837955) Not to mention that callback to 'The Stowaway' in 'Safe Landing,' which is incredible.

Honestly, Series 7A has some of Murray's best overall work, and I'll give a big reflection of why I think so alongside the Angels Take Manhattan score for full context. Asylum of the Daleks is no exception, and it's absolutely amazing, possibly my favorite episode score since "The Almost People!" There are a few repeated cues here and there, namely 'They are Everywhere,' but all of it is quite stellar. Have a listen!

Hope you all enjoy!

The score for "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" is a masterpiece. Honestly, it's HORRIBLY underrepresented on the ost. Hell, the great action piece that plays a whopping THREE times during the episode wasn't even included. Bloody shame, but at least Murray's work is well-represented in the episode. Absolutely worth a listen!

"A Town Called Mercy" is another brilliant score, and very unique compared to the previous too, which were mainly orchestral. Murray's time-period pieces are definitely standouts for the most part, and this one really does sound great. Still don't understand why the last segment of 'Out West' wasn't on the ost, though. Ah well, have a go!

The music wasn't even close to being up to Murray Gold's, all of it instantly forgettable. And what was that playing over the end credits? The original theme is there for sure but there's a bunch of guys hitting dustbins with wooden sticks trying to block it out!

Doctor_Theme
10-09-2018, 11:56 AM
At the end credits, it was the new Theme Tune.

The Melody is the Derbyshire melody blasted loud then normalized with a few synth layers on top. the high harmonics being edited some how. There is a bassline, but there is no 5.1 mix that i can get from anywhere. I believe the Derbyshire Bassline is in that with, again, synth layers.

The drums are in the form of the bassline, which is interesting.

NewbPrimian
10-09-2018, 07:17 PM
The drums being louder than the bass line is my least favorite part of the new theme; the percussion isn't powerful enough, yet it overamplified past the volume of the more powerful bass line. Even the snippet during the train scene, where the musical bass line was much louder, sounded better than the end credits. I'm hoping that the opening credits use a punchier mix of the theme, and that the one we heard at the end was just a lighter mix for just the end credits. Doctor Who Themes have always been "punchy", whether it's through the bass line or the percussion.

Our man EMS Productions has uploaded a rip (https://youtu.be/7SJ9ezVMfw0) for those of you who are interested. There's more good music than I realized, even if it's ambient or not as memorable as Murray Gold's. I'm definitely going to miss Gold, though

Was this episode's music more difficult to rip? Oswin Pond (from YouTube) said something about the audio being mixed differently this time. I can sort of tell from EMS' upload as more vocal/dialogue echoes are audible than usual.

10-09-2018, 07:30 PM
God i love the "building the sonic" theme.
The tiny snippes of the theme song we heard when 13 fell through the train was good too.

Holding off my opinion about the main theme until next week. Right now i dont like it but maybe hearing the whole thing will help.

I see what he means, but I'll still obviously give Akinola a chance. Lots of series nowadays use that "throbbing noisy electronic percussive" vibe in their music now, while Murray Gold kept that orchestral feel to it. What was unique about Gold though, is that every series (and sometimes even episode) still felt new (which will have to be observed long-term for Akinola). Just listen to even Gold's last two series, and they are so incredibly different. Lots of people who complain about Gold seem to complain about his orchestral music supposedly "hammering you over the head" to reinforce the emotion, but honestly he used it effectively.

Even in Series 10, he completely reinvented his style in "The Pilot". That episode has a much more modern feel to it with Bill's theme and associated motifs, like the menacing guitar and percussion music of the Puddle. It was light+modern and then heavy+traditional when necessary, and the episodes formed cohesive scores that flow well. That's one of the reasons I've been disappointed with some of the recent albums; the scores have an excellent flow in the episodes themselves, but this is ruined by terribly disjointed or unrepresentative selections like those for "Kill the Moon" and "Hell Bent" in the Series 8 and 9 albums.

NewbPrimian
10-20-2018, 07:13 PM
I still prefer the Gold versions of the theme (including the Twelfth Doctor one), as Gold seemed to know how to do the percussion better to keep the theme "driving". Akinola's has grown on me, such as the distorted sounds it has to make it sound overpowering, but I prefer his incidental music to his theme arrangement. At times, the incidental music does feel a bit like it's just noise to fill in the background (which is apparently fashionable nowadays), but there are moments where his more stripped-back score is rewarding (the end of "The Ghost Monument"). The music is also mixed rather well with the rest of the audio in Series 11 (and in previous ones, though I've heard people dispute that).

Doctor_Theme
10-20-2018, 08:41 PM
I like the ambient scores and the new Theme Tune, Segun has some really good music in my opinion. However, i do have some things that i think should be changed, mainly the theme tune.

The bassline in the new theme should feature both the edited and unedited Derbyshire Bassline tracks. I think it's be better if the unedted bass tracks are slightly more dominant that the edited bass tracks. The Percusssion, obviously Murray Gold was fantastic with it with his version of the theme tunes. Segun has a single drum track that follows the bassline, would be nice if he introduced more of a gold-inspired drum track. Perhaps introduce the Derbyshire Spangles in series 12? I don't know, probably a far stretch.

These are just my thoughts.

I think he's doing a pretty good job so far. It's different to Murray, but I'd have been concerned if it wasn't. IMO this is exactly what was needed, someone different to Murray to suit a brand new era. We'll have to see how he develops the score over the series, but I think he's doing a fine job so far. The new theme is great. It's familiar and yet different at the same time, much like Jodie's Doctor herself

IMHO I think some people's reactions are like anything when it comes to Doctor Who; when it first changes it's the worst thing ever until everyone loves it after an adjustment period. Part of being a Doctor Who fan is letting go of the idealised version of Doctor Who in your head and accepting each era and aspect of the show for what it is and not what it isn't. (IMO this is why Deep Breath is one of the best Doctor Who scripts, because it directly deals with this aspect of Doctor Who fandom with Clara having to let go of "her" idealised Doctor and accept the Doctor for who he is).

It seems to be mixes/edits actually from The Infinite Quest which seem to have quite a bit of processing done to them, so they're not really clean copies of the original cues, unfortunately.

Yeah i'm listening to it and it all seems to be early test versions of Series 2 - 3 music before it was orchestrated by the BBC National Orchestra Of Wales. Man would i love for that stuff to be released! Hearing music that was recorded and released already but in a much more stripped back and sampled way.

No, stop it again.

Speaking of ancient stock music, here's an old 78 from the Impress Library by our very own Norman Kay. These tracks aren't from Dr Who - and sound nothing like his work on the show - but some of you might well be interested:

It's more library music, and the only place you can get a lossless copy of Cosmic Sounds from Inferno.

A Conroy disc (https://www.discogs.com/Reg-Owen-Drums-50-Drums-75-Drums-100-Sax-Rock/release/8586530), all ripped as one track, which contains Drums 50 from A for Andromeda:

Another 78 - this one's called The Chemistry of Madness, and 2 seconds of one of the tracks were used in the opening titles of A For Andromeda! I'm not telling which bit though...

Superb. The people have spoken. The revolution is on.

Henceforth this thread will be known as A For Andromeda - A collection of all the soundtracks.

I propose: One, the words Grainer, Gold and Akinola will be outlawed; any breaches of this to result in a homevisit from pariscub. Two, we reconfigure GinjaNinja and gnawingagony into time cone inverters. Three, all shall rejoice at the advent of two incidential music tracks from A For Andromeda (its name be praised), episode four:

Welcome, comrade sponge. Thank you for your words. Unfortunately, this is the internet's premier A For Andromeda music thread and your enquiry is severely off-topic. Please report to your nearest re-education camp as soon as you have finished reading this.

However, as I am not entirely without mercy I will answer your questions.

The Chappell CD I managed to retrieve from the memory holes and the link should work again now. Download it quickly though before it is purged forever from this gloriously pure Andromedan thread.

That's the plan! Probably not for a bit though - a lot of potential Quatermass tracks are being uploaded on that library music blog every week (and I've got a few myself that still need ripping) so I'll wait a while longer until we've crossed off a few more candidate tracks. There's a link to everything new listed in the opening post of the thread - it looks a bit of a mess but I think once you've downloaded everything it should be fairly clear what goes where. Let me know if you have any problems.

I'm sorry what has this got to do with doctor who?

Funky1&2 has done some incredible work upthread in terms of identifying and sometimes uploading library music that was used in Doctor Who, and given the nature of such recordings, there is often overlap with other 60s shows such as A for Andromeda. I think posts such as these recent ones would probably just get lost in their own thread, and I for one am pleased to see them here, as they are a direct continuation of Funky1&2's excellent earlier posts.

Does anyone have a clean copy of the "regeneration sound effects"? Was that ever made available through any media?
I know there are at least 3 sounds associated with it: The "energy sparkle" sound that is the most recognized, the "power up" sound, and the "explosive energy" sound.
I hear recordings of them on YouTube but the quality isn't usually there.
I know there are clean effects of various other Who sounds (ie Tardis) and was hoping someone had access to a "library" of sorts ;)

Also...when in the world is the Series 10 OST being released?! GAH!

So the National Library of Australia has ALL of Tristram Cary's sheet scores. The website doesn't list if it has the music for "Marco Polo", but it also says that the material is not available for copying (the only way _I'd_ get to see it) until 2078. I'd be 109 then. Nor is it for circulation: One must visit the library in order to research it.

I'm wondering if there are any fine fellows here from Australia.

I wonder if it would be easier for someone with a really good ear to reproduce the music by ear.

Dunno.

I think the release dates are up to when the composer decides to come and select the tracks for the albums.
Since Murray Gold doesn't compose for Doctor Who anymore, it's anyone's guess as to when the S10 soundtrack will release, even though that rumor email from late 2017 suggested that the S10 soundtrack would follow the S9 album. After all, it took two years after Class for its soundtrack to finally materialize even though Blair Mowat's selections seemed to be done selecting much earlier this autumn.
It seems that Akinola is swifter to selecting the tracks for the album, which is absolutely welcome.

REMIX NOTES:

- Previous posts of this [REMIXED] soundtrack had a mastering error - the first 2 seconds of the first track missing - now fixed

- Now includes completely remastered 'remixed' CD back (displayed above)

- Downloadable in FLAC format as well as MP3, as this is my only NuWho soundtrack variation not available commercially

ADDITIONAL TRACKS:

- The album now opens with the Full-length theme music from 'Voyage of the Damned': Only ever released online (on Xmas Day 2007) by Silva Screen Records. Murray Gold has stated that this CD was always meant to include a version of the theme music, and it was Silva Screen who made the decision to make the track a 'hidden feature' on the CD. It is/was accessible by typing in the special code printed on the back of the CD into a web browser (Code: (http://www.mediafire.com/download/7wrvyia8cpt8bc8/FFS-DM-EE-2.zip) 515PM23111963)

- Fast Ood Rockers - Song for Kylie (I'm In Love With A Girl In A Time Machine): A very well put together pop version of the theme, blending Murray Gold, Delia Derbyshire, Kylie Minogue, Goldfrapp and others

REMIXED TRACKS:

- All the Strange, Strange Creatures (The Trailer Music) - on the original CD, this track opens with the same 'zoom in on earth' music used on Track 2 of the 'Series 1 & 2' CD. This track was made available for download in its isolated form (without the repeated 'zoom' in on earth' music) on The Mill's website, used in a promotional video that featured a lot of SFX from DW

- Abide With Me - on the original CD, this track seemed to fade out forever. For this version, I have gradually increased the volume at the end (so there is minimal fading) and made the track end more naturally at the end of the verse

Yeah - Revenge of the Cybermen music composed vs released

30'54 composed by Carey Bylon - about 20 minutes used. 6'57 released as suite = 21.5/35%

Plus 5'33 Sythesizer music by Peter Howell (does not exist)

I've heard Blyton's music wasn't so good.

Where are those people who can write down the music as heard and then perform it? Why aren't I one of them?

Boo! I'm alive.
I've actually been writing my own stuff, keeping busy and all of that, but I'm back now. For a while at least!

The score for "The Power of Three" is pretty good. I really like the original stuff, but unfortunately there just isn't that much of it.

"The Angels Take Manhattan" isn't my favorite episode, but the music is stellar here. The two-tone synth that builds up all season long comes to a close here, and it's absolutely amazing. Some of Murray's finest work, easily.

"The Snowmen" has a decent score, with the first instance of Clara's theme being my favorite one by far, and the inclusion of the choir really just ties it all together. A holiday treat, as it is.

The score for "The Bells of Saint John" actually had way more original music in it than I'd remembered, and it was great to look back at it and recognize the work put into it. Unfortunately, after this one and the one following, we'll hit a bit of a sag in that department. Nevertheless, all are worth a listen!

Wow, thanks, Zak!

Sorry to complain, but when comparing these to the previous rips, you seem to have missed a part in Angels Take Manhattan;
There's 00:25 of unreleased music which leads into "I Am You" in your rip.

It's nothing major, just something I noticed.

I appreciate the share. I have yet to be able to watch any of the new series, so am hearing the album out of context but foor me it feels...lacking. Kind of "sound design" and repetitive? Dunno. Just not bursting with energy or frenetic like Gold's scores. Is this indicative of the new story telling/editing style as well? Just curious.

NewbPrimian

I have positive-leaning, but mixed feelings about the Series 11 soundtrack. I've done my fair share of complaining so far :P, but I feel that this album is not the best representation of the score in the episodes. There's quite a bit of recognizable music that was popular with the fandom that was questionably omitted from the album.

With that said, your "sound design" comment is somewhat accurate about the new score, as Segun Akinola takes a more modern and electronic approach than Murray Gold, with a lot of background filler that sounds fine and sets the tone well in the episodes, but lackluster when isolated. It's strange how many cases of the filler music appear on the album instead of many iconic pieces that didn't make it to the album, especially from episodes 1, 4, 7, and 9 (if I'm to make a shortlist).

However, this helps to distinguish background moments from the iconic and impressive scenes - themes other than the Doctor's are reduced to motifs to create larger contrasts between the "normal" and "special" characters and moments.

Only saw the first five or so episodes before I gave up on it (yes, it's that bad) but in none of those did I ever notice any music nor did it ever stand out as something that I'd ever want to actually listen to out of context, unlike every Murray Gold score where not only it stood out but pretty much all of it became highly sought after.

Ah, there's your problem. You didn't make it out of the episodes written by Chibnall
Just about everything not touched by him (The first and Resolution episodes aside) are at least passable

The problem is that we've been subjected to RTD and Moffat for over a decade, so with a return to a more Classic formula, we're suffering from whiplash

Or maybe people are being too touchy about a fictional series and thinking way too hard about things. Who knows.
