Hey Zak, seeing as the tracks you've been posting are so brilliant, I was wondering if you would be able to do some tracks from series 9, particularly from Face the Raven or Heaven Sent, seeing as we have no released tracks from S9 a the moment :)

I found the synth Murray Gold has used for at least a couple tracks in Series 3. It's called 'FM8'. The section I've found is was used in a couple episodes, usually a buildup. Here's a sample. (http://www.mediafire.com/download/x0o7tlf2cdynyaa/FM8_Glassy_Strings_DoctorWho.wav)

FM8 is a synth created by Native Instruments. I'm looking to see if there's any series 8 & 9 stuff in there.

This was used the most in Last Of The Time Lords. I remember hearing it when Martha spots the Master Statue and the rocket yard and when we see the aged little doctor. It's great you found this.

We seem to be discovering A LOT of samples Murray has used recently.

Yeah, it was used during the Master's broadcast scenes as well.

Let's hope that doesn't stop! :D I'm doing my own little check through the Stylus RMX. I'll post my findings here.

Here's (https://mega.nz/#!GdJERTCT!xWxWLdijsqNJuCNc7DiCLW4RcEPKQIT1GnKPTEIAJmo) an MP3 version if that's any use. Francophones will no doubt have spotted DrMatt's unfortunate 'chevaux'/'cheveux' typo (CD2 track 3) which renders 'The Girl with the Flaxen Hair' as 'The Girl with the Flaxen Horses' :D

Unfortunately, the rip I used for these tracks was in, well, a different pitch. I managed to restore the original pitch, but it makes all of them sound a bit off at some points. They're pretty damn clean, though. :)

I was certainly hoping as well, but it's not exactly as straight-forward as any of Spectrasonic's items. Where the Stylus featured actual concrete percussion stems used in the show, Symphonic Choirs is more like any other virtual instrument. Press a key on a midi keyboard and a choir will sing in that key.

Here's a screencap of the interface:

There's a hell of a lot of options to make the choir sound different (different pitches, choruses, etc) but no complete samples or anything of the sort. However, (when I get a new midi keyboard) I might be able to recreate some choral cues Murray's done. Perhaps even the illusive 'The Cybermen' choir. ;)

I might even finally get that choral version of the 'Greats of Past Time' I've been after.

At this stage it's looking likely we won't get the Series 9 soundtrack until early next year. As a bonus though, it'll likely have music from this year's Christmas Special on it. If it doesn't get announced by mid-November, it's definitely coming early next year.

I'm hoping the soundtrack gets released before Christmas and is just like the series 8 soundtrack with 2 disks for the actual series and 1 for Husbands of River Song, and then this year's Christmas special should get its own individual release (it feels quite separate to any series to me, just like the 2009 Specials) around the time of series 10's broadcast.

Its a shame because its broken a pattern of Murray having some input in the spin off shows (mostly the theme tunes)

A shame... but then again Class seems to be very much it's own thing so it having it's own "style" (assuming the composer for Class doesn't try to emulate Gold) might work for it and help it stand apart. Plus it'll be good to get a fresh voice into the music world of Doctor Who

It won't get it's own soundtrack. The 2016 Christmas Special will either be on the Series 9 soundtrack or the Series 10 soundtrack. It's not "special" enough to get it's own release (A Christmas Carol had a new Katherine Jenkins song BBC wanted to cash in on which is why it got it's own release). And honestly, having both the 2015/2016 specials on one soundtrack would work better. The first two discs for Series 9 then a third disc for the specials, since Last Christmas only had 14 tracks on the Series 8 soundtrack and most Doctor Who soundtracks have up to 30 tracks per disc, there's plenty of space for both specials to have up to 15 tracks each.

I guess we won't hear 'A Good Man' during Capaldi's scenes in episode 1. Perhaps the new composer can come up with something different for The Doctor. Like how Sam & Dan Watts added some new with the previous Doctor's themes when David & Matt
appeared on The Sarah Jane Adventures. It intrigues me that the composer for the show hasn't been revealed yet. Unless there is no music and its just songs.

looking interesting. Also see a monitor showing footage from class but as usual you can never tell what it is. Imagine if Edmund Butt (An Adventure in Space & Time) was composing the music. his soundtrack for the docudrama was incredible. he absolutely deserves another go at scoring the Doctor Who universe.

I played around on some software to recreate (well, begin to - 'tis a work in progress) a variation of 9's Theme heard in LAST OF THE TIME LORDS. I thought it sounded lovely, shame it never got officially released, but thankfully it's simple enough for me to try and reproduce. Thought I'd share!

Here they are, as complete as can be! Sorry it took me so long to upload these, I'm currently working on Mr Robot as a side project.
Since the final tracklist is 37 songs, I'm releasing them in a package. I'll do this from now on with full episode edits, but updated tracks will still be upped as individuals with the episode title (and partial track listings) above them. Maybe with a zip file alongside them. :)

At this stage, an early 2017 release covering Series 9 and both the 2015 and 2016 Specials is most likely. If we don't get an announcement by mid-November we definitely won't get it until 2017.

Of course you can have these “stems” you prize so highly, my boy. But not until the appointed time.

When, you ask? Midnight.

They’re in my study. I could bring them to you, of course, but it might be more auspicious if you came down to me. Wear a smock and knock three times. Then you will receive the gift of the multi-tracks, first handed to me in person by Hermes Trismegistus. The finest gift you may ever receive. Ever.

So Patrick has revealed that Blair Mowat is the composer for Class. He created the theme for Big Finishes Torchwood Audios and the Theme for Doctor Who: The Fan Show. I saw a clip from episode 1 featuring his music and it sounds promising. Orchestral with electronic elements. Some other music related information is as follows:

- The main title sequence was labeled “WIP” (“work in progress”), and included a modern rock track (with lyrics!) that is a far cry from the parent show’s iconic theme.

- However, the familiar Doctor Who theme is heard (and it is beautiful).

Sir,

I find I have a moment to reply to you during this Black Pilgrimage upon which I am embarked. (It turns out Chorazin is bloody cold at this time of year. I've had to buy thicker socks.) You will be gratified to learn that Doctor_Theme departed the physical realm without any real resistance; yet, whilst his earthly travails are over, I fear we may yet suffer some annoyance from those psychic portions that linger.

So is it a man's secret? Between men?

In truth I did type those very words before decency demanded I remove them. I wished not to suggest that a “man’s secret” was something to which you might not be privy; I would never dream of making such an indecorous libel against a fellow's good character, even less would I suggest that they were a walker upon the lavender path. That said, I must thank you not to flirt with me whilst sporting an avatar of Colin Baker. I’m fairly certain that’s actually a law.

I remain, Sir, forever yours,

So you didn't like the music? I loved it. Episode 2 is much better than Episode 1 and Blair's music was somewhat refreshing, hearing all these electronic sounds and the previous new series themes were great to hear again. When BBC One broadcasts the episodes then thats when the HD copies with the 5.1 mix (fingers crossed) will appear online, then we can extract music from them. But we will probably have to wait a while sadly.

Blair has said he will be more than happy to release the score but we have to request the BBC to release it. The chances of that seem to slim.

CGCJ

So you didn't like the music?

I just didn't really notice it until the Doctor Who references in episode 1. Episode 2 the only piece that stood out to me (or I can actually remember noticing) was when the teacher (forgotten her name already) was running with the Ofsted guy from the dragon. I'm finding it very hard to actually enjoy the series, as I feel I'm just out of the show's target audience (not a school kid by several years) and well the show's depiction of school life seems very unrealistic compared to my experiences... (Personal thing, but I guess not all schools are the same) Also, the use of a song for the opening titles was just really annoying/weird as all advanced reviews I'd read said it was only placeholder. (I guess that's the sort of "music" kids like to hear) There were somethings I enjoyed: The moment the guys girlfriend is killed along with him losing his leg was quite amusing. I can see him getting covered in blood will likely be a recurring joke/visual gag. Susan's name (S. Foreman) being on that board was great and the continuity of Mr Armitage from Into the Dalek still being the headmaster was also great but after episode 2 beyond the school I feel they've pretty much lost all connections to Doctor Who. I feel the show would possibly have been better if it wasn't anything to do with Doctor Who but then it probably would just go unnoticed.

Thank you very much. Listening to it, it suffers the same as Doctor Who where there is no music on the bottom channels (it does fade in and out at points which is odd), Hearing Blair's music in clearer quality and without dialogue really sounds better in my opinion. A lot of his piano pieces remind me of Zimmer's score for Interstellar. The Doctor's Theme & A Good Man variations are excellent, Blair manages to mix The Doctor's Theme & A Good Man together which is clever. There IS a Class Main Theme which pops up a lot and the end credits are definitely Blair's Theme for the show.

I can extract the tracks and will post them in due course.
Thanks again Mortadelo for the AC3 copies :)

I'm loving Class so far. As someone who's just finished University in the UK, Class is really capturing what it's like to be a student in Britain at the moment. All the characters are instantly recogniseable; I know quite a few Rams, Aprils and Tanyas (I myself am a Charlie). I really think Class is well on it's way to becoming the "British Buffy", because just like how Buffy perfectly captured being a young person in the 90s with Supernatural threats mirroring Teenage threats, Class does the same for being a teenager/young person in the 2010s. I do feel a lot of fans are shitting on it because it's not recogniseably "Doctor Who", but honestly isn't that the point of a spin-off? To be something fresh and new and give us a viewpoint on this universe we haven't seen before? And Patrick Ness has written two wonderful scripts so far. If the rest of Series 1 is up to the quality of those first two episodes, Class may surpass The Sarah Jane Adventures as the best Doctor Who Spin-Off. Especially since Class doesn't feel the need to try and prove how adult it is every few minutes like the first series of Torchwood. And Miss Quill is probably the best character introduced in the Whoniverse since Missy.

CLASS UPDATE:

So I've extracted tracks from episodes 1 & 2 but on watching episode 3 today I noticed some music (particularly the previously montage) that's repeated and I can use parts of the versions from episode 2 & 3 to get a much cleaner result. Therefore I shall wait until a 5.1 copy of Episode 3 emerges and then extract tracks from that as well as the reused music pieces.

There were some good main theme variations in episode 3 too. The electronic/strings only approach is really growing on me with this show. It works soooo well.

Theres a reoccuring piece of music. The end credits music is the main theme and it reoccurs in the previously montage and throughout the episodes.

Episode 1: when Shadow Kin hold April Hostage to when 12 closes the tear
Episode 2: Previously Montage & When Ram lets the Dragon decide who to kill at the end
Episode 3: Previously Montage, When Ram is running through London and When Miss Quill drives a bus through the vines.

When the Episode 3 5.1 mix pops up i'll be able to get a mostly clean version of the Previously track and you will notice the 'theme' popping up time and time again.

I've delayed the posting of this for weeks now and with CGCJ's recent posting of an unedited Ep3, I've had to re do tracks from episode 3 with ad breaks.

I have noticed the Ad break free versions have the sound design lowered in the mix than the original 5.1 postings, therefore the music is more prominent and easier to extract. That's not to say this is clean music, i've tried to isolate and get around sfx issues as best I could.

Just got a "reputation point" for the spooky TV Themes post above. (I don't know who you are - it's anonymous) But thank you!

Can we talk about The Mind Beyond for a moment? There are some things that go without saying: most obviously, that it's the telefantasy title that's most egregiously absent from the DVD release schedules.

Less obvious - but rather interesting - is that the opening episode ended with:

1) an old 78 recording of a dance hall tune
2) sung by Al Bowlly
3) backed by the Ray Noble Orchestra
4) with lots of spooky added reverb

All of which someone else did rather more famously a few years later.

Kubrick, J'accuse: on 29th September 1976, you were watching BBC2!

so how is Class so far? Pretty good? I only seen the first episode due to loss of interest.

I find it to be a very poor series that really has nothing to do with Doctor Who other-than the location (in name only) and The Doctor's appearance in the first episode. It really doesn't feel like it's set in the Doctor Who universe and I feel it would be much better if it was its own separate series, that way it could stand on its own and not be judged by the (very high) standards of the previous spin-offs, because as it currently is its a very poor Doctor Who spin-off and if it were to be a separate series it could be seen as a mediocre at best science fiction series.

As for the music of Class; I find there's too many scenes where songs are used in place of actual score which I find very annoying (the opening titles being the worst) but I guess that's what "young adults" like... The actual score I don't really have an opinion on other-than I've noticed that a lot of it seems to be reused from previous episodes.

I agree. I lost interest about 45 minutes in on the first episode, it just wasn't good. In my opinion, it should just cut off from Doctor Who.

Well I'm loving Class so far. It's really stood on it's own and shown it doesn't need to rely on it's Doctor Who connections to keep viewers interested (unlike Torchwood). Sure it's not perfect, but what show is in it's first series? They're still finding their feet and rhythm. It's still an awful lot better than the first series of Torchwood. Miss Quill is quickly becoming one of the Whoniverse's best characters. And it doesn't really mater it doesn't "feel like it's set in the Doctor Who universe". That's kind of the point. We're seeing the universe on a very different level. Someone once called Class the "British Buffy" and I have to agree. Because that's what it is in a nutshell. The scripts are incredibly high quality, the acting is great and the show is doing perfectly well with the minuscule budget it's been given. Class is very much a character driven show rather than a story driven one and that's working perfectly fine for it. Notice how each character's personal relationships drive each episode? Episode 2; Ram and Rachel, Episode 3; Tanya and her dad, Episode 4; April and Ram/April and her Father, Episode 5; Charlie and Matteusz/April and her Father/Charlie and Miss Quill.

I'm loving it because it's so character driven. Because it's so different. Maybe I'm just a sucker for character driven dramas, but it's great to see characters driving the story for a change rather than story driving the characters. Maybe this is why Heaven Sent/Hell Bent is one of my favourite Doctor Who two parters as it's also character driven rather than story driven.

That was originally from the Doctor Who Trailer Maker, I remember they had that Futurekind Variation, the Doctor Forever variation that was used in the Family Of Blood Next Time trailer, some calmer music and an unreleased track from Voyage Of The Damned. Shame that its now gone forever. I remember another removed game having a clean portion of the guitar ATSSC variation from the Sound Of Drums.

They're probably waiting until it's closer to Series 10 so there's more chance of it selling well. Releasing the soundtrack during an off year makes little sense from a business standpoint. An early 2017 3-Disc release covering Series 9, The Husbands of River Song and The Return of Doctor Mysterio is most likely. The soundtrack gets a sales boost from the hype wave for not just the new series but The Return of Doctor Mysterio too.

I just hope that they won't do a 3-Disc release this way. With two specials included, there would be at least one disc less for Searies 9 (if they keep the conventional way). Two discs are not really enough to cover Series 9 especially if there's the massive Heaven Sent score. A decent release would look something like this:

Disc 1: The Magician's Apprentice, The Witch's Familiar, Under the Lake, Before the Flood, The Girl who Died
Disc 2: The Woman who Lived, The Zygon Invasion, The Zygon Inversion, Face the Raven
Disc 3: Heaven Sent (complete), Hell Bent
Disc 4: The Husbands of River Song, The Return of Doctor Mysterio

Furthermore, a fourth disc would be a nice way to apologize for the long wait :)

VERY unlikely we'll get 4 discs. This is more likely what we're looking at:

Disc 1: The Magician's Apprentice, The Witch's Familiar, Under The Lake, Before The Flood, The Girl Who Died, The Woman Who Lived
Disc 2: The Zygon Invasion, The Zygon Inversion, Sleep No More, Face The Raven, Heaven Sent, Hell Bent
Disc 3: The Husbands of River Song, The Return of Doctor Mysterio

It's always possible Heaven Sent/Hell Bent could be moved to Disc 3 allowing them to have more tracks. It's extremely unlikely we'll get the complete Heaven Sent score. We'll probably get Murray's selections from the episode like we usually do (although it wil certainly receive more tracks than any other episode on the soundtrack). A Christmas Carol, Day of the Doctor and Time of the Doctor are the only New Who episodes to have had their complete scores (or near enough) released and that was only due to them being special events/circumstances (Katherine Jenkins, the 50th). At most we'll get around 10 tracks for Heaven Sent if that's what Murray wants to release.

3 Discs is incredibly likely due to the strong sales for the Series 8 Soundtrack, so Silva will want to try and repeat that success as much as they can. BMG's recent purchase of Doctor Who music rights doesn't factor into the release of Series 9's music as they only purchased music from Series 6, 7, 8 and The Day of the Doctor.

The reason the Series 9 soundtrack has took so long is probably because Silva is waiting so they can include The Return Of Doctor Mysterio and release it close to Series 10 to increase sales. Especially since we won't get the Series 10 soundtrack until early 2018 (with it including the 2017 Christmas Special as that's Moffat's final episode). With 2016 being an "off year" for Doctor Who, it made little sense to release a soundtrack when Silva can make more money releasing it in 2017 when Doctor Who is actually on TV. They did the same thing in 2009/2012. When there's only a handful (or less) episodes airing, Silva don't bother with a soundtrack that year.

Doctor Who can always be relied upon to have another series soon. Series 9 will have a soundtrack in 2017, probably around February/March when promotion for Series 10 starts. It'll increase sales if Doctor Who is "trending". You can expect the BBC announcer to promote the soundtrack over the end credits of the first episode of Series 10 (the BBC announcers usually promote Doctor Who merchandise during the Doctor Who end credits). Plus Silva is probably banking on the "Oooo I really like the music in that episode, I wonder if there's a soundtrack." potential buyers.

In an episode pointlessly set in America, The Doctor meets a kid during the course of doing some other unrelated fun-sounding but never adequately explained activity, and catches up with him decades later when he's grown up. We see how this brief encounter with The Doctor changed him. Some limp "family life" comedy happens. Numerous famous films are plundered. Meanwhile, a race of aliens headed by a creepy dangerous guy with an accent, plot to take over the world by impersonating world leaders. The Doctor yells at them, they reveal their diabolical plan and make it clear they will ignore his threat, and the day is finally saved by the kid, who does so by utilising skills he gained as a result of his first meeting with The Doctor.

Seriously? Were they even awake for this one? Were they even trying? I've found recent Who a bit hit-and-miss, but I've NEVER known an episode to have such a derivative and lazy story - particularly under Moffat and particularly a Christmas special.

This sounds great! Bit annoying having to change most of the tags and remove covers (personal preference), and also add track number to the files (not sure why they're left off) but that only took a few minutes, and I really shouldn't be complaining when so much effort has clearly gone into to it and as it sounds so great.

I don't dabble with the new series stuff very much, but I do absolutely adore Murray's stuff from the first couple of years, so thank you.

You may not be aware, but a complete version of Song For Ten was stuck online (in terrible quality) by the Beeb back in 2006. I can't remember for sure but I think it was part of an online advent calendar.

Anyway, it lasts a fair bit longer than the TX version in your upload, so I've taken the liberty of welding it back onto the end of your fantastic rip. (I've also smoothed out some of the more obvious volume changes.) Runs for 2'15":

I do hope you are able to get them in full, by the looks of things its pretty new to the site from the 6th December 2016, so it could be possible other series may be uploaded. I think its there to showcase work and to earn money for the composers as the licences can be used for projects adverts that kind of thing not sure a full account will give you the full samples to play but heres hoping, although a soundtrack is unlikely do you think maybe the upcoming 10th aniv the attic could lead to some music being made available?

Good question. I've decided that I will upload a bonus disc along with the last episode of each series that contains pretty much everything else I can find from that series, including the full official soundtrack in chronological order. Series 3 onward will also include everything I could find in the adventure games.

Oh, and here's New Earth. Didn't expect to finish this one this quickly, as the 5.1 mixing on this episode leaves quite a bit to be desired.

DISCOVERY!

THE EDGE OF DESTRUCTION

...Of course, there are several other things that should be on the PasB that aren't - the scanner "planet sequence" music for one (missing from the paperwork for both eps - grrr), and an echoey piano trill which I suspect might be Desmond Leslie.

The PasB for this story lists only one Desmond Leslie track – The Day The Sky Fell In from JW 231. This does appear, playing underneath Hartnell’s “birth of a solar system” speech.

This left the piano trill, mentioned above.

The recent Panini thing for Edge of Destruction claimed that this was The Stranger's Gift from this ('https://www.discogs.com/Desmond-Leslie-Music-Of-The-Future/master/225405'). It isn't.

However, The Stranger's Gift, although wrong, does actually contain the right "sample" - at least, it does once you play the 78 disc at 45rpm - so I re-listened to some Desmond Leslie tracks and can now reveal...

Drumroll please!

...The previously unidentified "piano trill" from Edge of Destruction is *also* from The Day The Sky Fell In – once again played at 45rpm:

https://www.mediafire.com/?kg2360yf4ofg42p

- that's the clip from the episode, followed by the same piece from the vinyl.

I don't know how I missed it the first time round, but that's another one off the list!

Here's the original Desmond Leslie library disc that The Day The Sky Fell In comes from:

We have an UPDATE on the Series 9 Soundtrack. Don't get excited, its not good news and kind of suspicious of the BBC

Dear ____

Thanks for your email.

I appreciate your frustration, but unfortunately I can't give you information I simply don't have. We do not own this music, we license it from the BBC, who let us know when it is available for us to release. It currently isn't and they are unable to tell us when it will be, so we are in the same position as you and waiting to hear.

Sorry not to be more help.
Regards

What are the BBC up too???

BBC give Sherlock Series 4 music to Silva Screen to licence so they can release the OST late January in the same month it airs, but BBC won't give Silva Screen the licence for the Doctor Who Series 9 score that was 13 months ago??? Hmmmm & Series 10 starting in a few months time. Blair also having difficulties with 'big' costs of buying out musicians for the OST plus BBC being difficult letting him release his music for Class.

Something very suspicious going on with the Doctor Who Brand it seems.

Still doesn't make sense why Sherlock that is about to finish airing Series 4 is available but DW S9 which has finished airing 13 months ago isn't.
I want to know why and I know BBC won't answer.

Yeah this doesn't make any sense at all. Perhaps they are preparing for the transition to Chibnall? This is very unusual and disappointing.

Not being a fan of Sherlock this is incredibly frustrating. I think that we were lucky with how quickly the soundtrack releases came (less than six months after the last episode represented aired, for most, apparently), especially considering that most TV shows don't even get any kind of release of the music or take years to be released but Doctor Who series 9 not being released yet Sherlock of all things gets its soundtrack released in the same month as it finishes airing is just a joke.

Hello,

BBC has given to go-ahead for us to start licencing, you will no doubt see a release soon.

And how do you know that? Just wondering.

It's preferable to release a TV soundtrack with some proximity to the show it is from. "Sherlock" is on air for only two weeks before going off again for about three years, that's why the CD has to be put out in a timely fashion.

"Doctor Who" is on for three months, then nine off, three on, nine off, year after year, so the CDs can be dropped in on any of those cycles. It might seem like a long wait for someone desperately wanting a certain album but I doubt there's any sinister plot afoot at the BBC surrounding the DW brand!
