Speaking of mind issues, I suffer from manic depression, but I spent a lot of time in therapy and so have developed some really handy coping skills. Like cutting. And slaughtering small furry animals. Such practices keep me normal. And regular!


Weren't there Branding issues that almost derailed the Specials album? Would that not also affect any unreleased music albums?

According to Murray on Twitter, there were also rumblings (either within the BBC or within Silva) that no one wanted the Specials disc, that it would not sell and would be a massive flop. Murray had to fight just to get the album released. Glad he did, because now that the album has been a financial success, maybe we can expect more double discs in the future, and maybe some "unreleased" stuff.

That'll show the FSM-ers how wrong they were.

Whatsoever, can anyone tell me how many I am the Doctor variations are in the Series 5 OST? Because I only know of the Sun's gone Wobbly.

Besides "The Sun's Gone Wibbly", bits and variations of "I Am The Doctor" appear (sample wise) in "Chicken Casanova" and "Cab For Amy Pond" in Disc 1. In Disc 2 we get hints of it, in very sad tone, in "A Troubled Man", "Adrift In The TARDIS", "The Patient Centurion" and "The Perfect Prison", "Words Win Wars" (although wether or not this is part of the CD version is still unknown, in the Proms version it was), "I Remember You" and "Onwards". This is what can be heard in the samples but i think there might be more of it in the full versions of the remaining tracks. This theme was everywhere in all episodes... and in this case that is a good thing.

Yep my best guess is that it will be released in Jan or Feb. North America has always got the series soundtracks a couple months after the UK. I believe Series Four came out in Feb as did Series Three.

I wonder , I dont want to start anything but the Series 5 soundtrack UK release date is to coincide with release of the DVD box set, well the DVD box set for series 5 is scheduled to be released here in the US November 9th, so maybe maybe maybe we will break the tradition and the soundtrack too on that day , heres to wishful thinking.

The Specials album is due for release on the same day as the Series 5 box set. I rather doubt we'll get both discs on the same day. Which is why I've ordered it from Amazon.co.uk.

Yeah if Amazon wanted to do a double dip for North America they would have already had a listing. It'd be sweet to get both on the same day I just don't think that will happen, the Specials is an exception for obvious reasons. If it was just the Series Five soundtrack coming out then I still would guess that they'd have it out early next year like they've done before. I ordered mine from UK as well, or my mom did for me.

This is what i don't get on iTunes. Wanting you to have an acount? OK. Wanting one in every shop you go? Not so OK but... ok. But then, why cut access to people? I have used my credit card on many sites throughout the world, motly via PayPal. But iTunes is too good for that? WTF. They allow a PayPal ripoff like PayClick that still requires an australian acount, but not PayPal?! For F Sake. It's like they don't want to do business. See what happened here? I want music they have so i had to buy a card on eBay, with all the innerent risks, to be able to, possibly, IF ALL GOES WELL, buy that music!!! Bought the album last night, all *65* tracks. Some are as short as forty six seconds in length, whilst others are three, four minutes long. Still, it's a very satisfying album, the arrangement is superb, and it's worth every single coin.

I would advise against that. It's against their T&Cs to purchase something from a store other than in your country - and you have a give a fraudulent address in order to get an account. They are hardly going to be pleased to hear about how somebody did that.

And... with the release, all they did was make a mistake and then rectify it. We're not *losing* anything so we hardly have anything to complain about. They'll say "tough shit, it's not released until November 8th" and that'll be the end of that.

Big shame, but absolutely nothing that can be done about it.

Technically there's nothing wrong in notifying them of an error on an album... nothing has to be said about attempting to purchase from abroad...

It's not been removed, there's an error message, aka a technical fault. Apple are capable of removing a listing off their own store if it's not meant to be there.

Same here , I believe if you use the Priority shipping its closer to the 30 bucks, but with the regular shipping is 16.70 or around there, either way good deal.

It skipped on mine as well, I thought it might've been how it was arranged in the episode. But have just re-watched it and there was no hiccup in that, so it is either a fault on this download, or possibly an error on the actual disc - that is unless Murray intended for it to be arranged this way.

Hopefully that's an iTunes encoding issue and not an issue with the physical album. That'd be a shockingly bad mastering issue. What worries me is that the track is 4:04 long in my play list... which also happens to be the reported length for it on Amazon and iTunes.

"I am the Doctor" sounds like its suppose to be that way. it sounds like it to me.

I'm almost positive that the hard-cut glitch at 3:51 isn't intentional. It's like data has been dropped from the track (if you've ever played a song file while it's being downloaded over bit torrent, you'll know what I mean).

The Doctor Who albums always have some mastering issues, they include everything from digital artifacts to clipping, but this is one of the nastiest issues yet. Really hope it's not on the disc.

Assuming you mean chronological order, "Emotions Get The Better Of Him" may go best after "A Tyrannical Menace". It's the theme when the Doctor goes at that Dalek with the giant spanner, while Tyrannical Menace plays during the lead-up to the reveal at the beginning that Churchill's weapon is a Dalek.

"Impossible Choice" is the piece when Amy and the Doctor kill themselves in the Leadworth dream, so I'd say after "This Is The Dream".

The best i can tell you is that "Emotions Get the Better of Him" is from "Victory of the Daleks", wich puts it along with tracks 15 to 17 in Disc 1, and "Impossible Choice" is from "Amy's Choice", tracks 25 and 26, also Disc 1. As for the exact order, if there is one, i'll have to watch the episodes again (and what a sacrifice that is...LOL). Or can anyone else give a us a hand? :)

Well, it's removed but not fixed. moontrekker's cut off the last few seconds to excise the glitch. Let's hope the version on the CD is missing this error entirely and won't have to be snipped out later (and here's hoping the physical version also lacks the loud pop that happens 18 seconds into The Madman With the Box). My hope is that some of these sound issues are the result of m4a files being converted into MP3 (I assume that was done, unless the Australian iTunes sells albums as MP3s) and are not present in the master.

While overall I'm incredibly impressed with the soundtrack, I'm incredibly dissapointed that "I am the doctor" dosen't seem to have the choral part at the climax (When the images of all 10 previous doctors are shown). It's the best piece murray has ever composed, and its really missing out. The crowd at the proms broke into the loudest mid-song cheer of the night when it came up, so I'm surprised its not on here. I hoped that it was in the part missed by the glitch, but...

Overall, I still prefer the series 4 soundtrack as I love ALL the songs, but this has some darn amazing tracks too :)

If you mean the wispy sound toward the end it may the way it is, and I didnt hear a loud pop in Mad Man, oh well when the cd gets here we can compare.

Am downloading them now, and I'm excited to have them to tide me over as I wait for the CD to arrive. Muuray Gold's music this year has been phenomenal - some of his best Who work, in fact - and I can't wait to sit and enjoy it.

Actually I prefer the Series 4 Specials soundtrack on the whole over Series 5. There are some nice things, but musically and thematically the first one absolutely stands out for me.

I could have sworn that I heard a musical riff on the Master's drumbeats for "The Life and Times of Amy Pond" which is one of my favorite tracks near the end of the song.

I thought I'd noted a similarity a Series 5 piece had to the Series 4 Specials track "The Fate of Little Adelaide" before the Series 5 OTS came out, and I'm glad I'm not just crazy. From 2:40 to about 3:14 in "The Fate of Little Adelaide", there's this haunting little melody played on piano, occasionally joined by what sounds like a flute.

Cue "Can I Come With You" (0:32) and "Amy In The Tardis" (2:10). Love it!

And yet you don't know there's a I am the Doctor cue in the Specials Soundtrack? Listen to all in the balance.

What I never see mentioned about "All In The Balance", though, is that the bit from 0:10 to 0:16 also shows up in Series 5. Namely, the sections in "Down to Earth" from 0:30 to 0:36, and 0:46 to 0:54.

Could I just ask (since there seem to be many people here more knowledgable than I) - I'm wanting to load these into my iPod with the titles of the actual episodes they come from. Therefore, with the Pandorica/Big Bang tracks, am I right in thinking that the division between the two episodes comes between "The Life and Death of Amy Pond" and "Amy's Starless Life"?

Also, with the (only two?) tracks from Angels/Stone - am I right in assuming, because the second track is named "The Time of Angels," that they both come from the first episode in the two-parter?

And lastly, with the two tracks from Earth/Blood - do they come from different episodes?

Been thinking about the glitches on "I Am The Doctor" - I concur with previous posters who have suggested that audio is missing, but it's a little more complicated than that. It's like somebody hit "mute" for a second or two, because the RHYTHM is uninterrupted; so it is not a skip or a jump, and so the track time is accurate. What appears to have happened is this: At 3:51, they intended to mix into another cue to finish off the piece, but accidentally muted the first second or two; meaning that the first cue finishes clean and then we hard cut into the second one.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I fixed it properly. Since the piece is quite repetitive, I "found" the missing music (only one bar) in a repeat and grafted it seamlessly into place. To my ears, anyway, it sounds excellent.

I've kept the original tags so you can drop this straight into the folder, or onto your iPod or whatever. Obviously the sound quality is degraded *slightly* as it is now on its third encoding (once by iTunes to M4A, once by the uploader to MP3, and once by me to MP3 after editing) - but it is perfectly servicable and will do nicely for now.

I really hope to bloody hell that this isn't on the master, but to be honest, I can't see anything in the production chain that could've caused this - this is not a ripping error or a conversion error. This is a foul up in the mastering studio. Assuming they sent the masters straight to iTunes, and pressed the CD from the same master... well, there is going to be a great number of spectacularly fucked off people sending back the album!

Anyway, this is all theory and conjecture - we'll know when the disc turns up. If Silva have any decency, they'll recall it and repress it if these issues are present. (Bear in mind that when I bought Lesbian Vampire Killers from Silva, and found that it had been mastered from 128kbps MP3, I complained and received an apology from the marketing director, and then later on the mastering engineer himself at the recording studio - and an offer for a free copy of an album of my choice. Nice customer service, and a refreshing change from the arsehole attitude of Varese Sarabande (who cares? only pirates with spectral scanners notice this kind of thing!). Obviously I didn't get the answer I was hoping for - "Sorry, we screwed up; we're recalling the album and repressing it from a fresh master." but it was a result.

I'll certainly be sending Silva a complaint if this ends up being a mastering issue that's on the disc. The Doctor Who CDs have always had slightly shady mastering issues, but they were kept to a minimum and were minor enough that they could be overlooked. This, however, would be an inexcusable foul up. The least they could do is sort out the master and release a fixed digital version.

It really beggars belief that no one caught this before the disc was pressed. There are a number of minor mastering problems I've let slide over the last 5 years, but this is a doozy. What the hell was the engineer up to when he was putting this together, and why wasn't he paying attention when he played it back?

I really ought not be quite so angry over this, but it's managed to get right under my skin. I'm actually disgusted. That never happens, I'm generally far too mellow to be disgusted.

Great fix tango and its too bad its on the physical disc , we should bomb bard them with emails, but I doubt they will recall the lot and if they did look how its taking Doug Fake to get the SpaceCamp cd fixed.

I tend to back up my CDs onto my PC and iPod and stick them on a shelf. I very rarely listen to a physical disc (I don't even have a stand alone CD player anymore) which means I'll be able to easily substitute Tango's lossless version of I Am the Doctor for the one I get off the disc, but that's not really the point. It's the principal of the thing. As you said, trekker, we ought not have to hunt down a fixed version in the digital realm.

This is going to annoy me all night.

What puzzles me is that I Am The Doctor is possibly the biggest track on album and they've missed a cut like this on it. Surely if you have a track as popular as this on an album, you check over and over that it's satisfactory. I probably wouldn't mind this if it were on one of the less known tracks, but to let this happen to I Am The Doctor is just simply shocking. I expect a hell load of complaints!

That's actually what surprises me most about this particular cock up: it's on what has got to be considered one of the featured tracks, one of the selling points. If it were tucked away on some other track -- maybe one of the cute tracks from The Lodger -- then I could possibly just about understand how it was missed. The fact that it happens on I Am the Doctor -- the motif that Murray has described as being his favorite out of all the pieces he's written for the Doctor's character -- is shocking.

I am just astonished. Having now had a chance to listen to the album, the mistake was worse than I imagined. It's not a subtle mistake, it's horribly jarring to listen to, and as others have pointed out, it's in one of THE tracks on the album. That they could so completely miss it is extraordinary. Still, one good thing about the early leak - I've cancelled my pre-order of the CD and am waiting until I hear what is happening to address the problem.

For the love of God, LAZY BASTARDS! Absolutely priceless. The Who albums are Silva's BIGGEST SELLERS. You would think somebody would actually play the disc back before sending it off to be duplicated a hundred thousand times. Do they have any quality control whatsoever? That's not even the only problem on the disc; there are many more - digital pops, clipping (also in I Am The Doctor) galore.

I know Who is made on a TV budget and that it's a miracle there is an orchestra at all - but the BBC record these scores in a brand new custom built concert hall (Hoddinott Hall) with the same engineers they contract for classical music CDs. Obviously the raw recordings are spotless. Who is consistently buggering them up for the CD master?

Wich means that those who downloaded this thing actually have, thanks to Tangotreats, a better score than those with the CD, because that can't be fixed. And that's just wrong. :) Thanks for the fix, Tango, it's brilliant and not just to your ears. Wish the guys at SSR had an ear like yours.

I just cancelled mine too , our voice needs to be heard.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I fixed it properly. Since the piece is quite repetitive, I "found" the missing music (only one bar) in a repeat and grafted it seamlessly into place. To my ears, anyway, it sounds excellent.

Im hearing very disturbing things about this release enough to cause me and others to cancell our orders of this cd.
The track or cue I am the Doctor has a Very bad mastering glitch on it , the best track on the cd.
This disturbs me greatly because Im a huge Who Fan and Fan of Murrays music.
I know several who have already voiced this as a email to you, but I feel the need to do the same.
I hope this will be rectified soon because I would love to have this cd in my collection.
If you dont believe me just listen to the track I am the Doctor towards the end you will hear it and its very bad.

That's not even the only problem on the disc; there are many more - digital pops, clipping (also in I Am The Doctor) galore.

These sorts of issues have plagued the brand since the first release in 2006. I've been willing to overlook them up to now because I'm a big fan of Murray Gold's work. But this is just appalling craftsmanship. I'm of two minds on whether or not to cancel my pre-order though. I don't want to purchase a blatantly sub par album, but I feel an obligation to support Murray Gold's work (and he can hardly be blamed for Silva dropping the ball).

Im not holding very high hopes a recall would be very costly , but lets give it a chance, at least its only one track , just the best track on the cd.
I do feel Murray needs to be made aware of it.

At the very least, I hope Silva will make a corrected digital version of the track available.

No I didnt see that one, well hopefully he will get the massage and have enough clout to do something about it.

If you had scored Doctor Who, wouldn't you listen to the master carefully before signing it off for mass production? He should've listened to it, Silva should've listened to it, and the Mastering engineer should've listened to it. Evidently none of them did; they just tossed the tracks in and sent it off to the duplication plant. As far as I'm concerned, he's as much to blame as anybody in this chain of disaster and appalling QC.

Silva Screen should immediately recall every disc, repress the whole shebang, offer free, postage paid replacements to anybody who can offer reasonable proof they they purchased the disc initially, and offer some sort of freebie bonus to those people by way of an apology.

Any other reaction - including a digital correction - will be a cop out; it is, after all, their incompetence that was ultimately responsible for this.

Recalls have been done , I remember on the Amityville Horror score had real bad sound quality on it, Lalo Schifrin had them redo the whole lot.

I know you dont want to have to blame the composer and I was discussing this with the wife and she said its probably not his job to do , he just turns it over to Silva and moves on. If he feels Silva will do a good job he wont worry about it.
But I do see your point.

I respect that, but it's not about whether it's his job or not; it's about whether he cares enough about his art to spend all of two hours of his life checking the quality of his product. Perhaps if he didn't spend so much time on Twitter schmoozing his fans and whipping up an almost hysterical desire for the CD... and expended his efforts in a cursory quality check (ie, taking responsibility for what is essentially his product - regardless of who's job it is in the corporate sense) we wouldn't be in this mess now. ;)

Meanwhile this is an exceptional score...brilliant stuff aside from the one glitch...I'm loving all of the Amy stuff particularly "The Life and Death of Amy Pond", "Amy in the Tardis", "Fish Custard", "Amy's Theme", "Cab for Amy Pond", "Can I Come With You"...."The Battle in the Sky" reminds me a bit of the "Stargate SG-1" theme.

Oh absolutely , Murray Golds Best so far , I just got through listening to it start to finish and its stunning to say the least.

Does anyone have a scan of the booklet? I'd like to see Murray's comments on the tracks.
