I am currently in the process of making the Soundtracks for season 23 using the isolated scores so keep and eye out for them in the VERY VERY near future.
Currently got all I need to make it and so I will have it done before the month is over.
Could you upload the complete isolated scores as they come in the blu-rays, please?

Richard Hartley's re recorded score sounds exactly like the original so do not worry about that. I have checked it against the original and it is almost spot on.

I will be using the isolated scores for the soundtrack with a lot of phasing out of the themes and some harder isolating to remove the final few themes I need to remove to have all 14 episodes perfectly clean

Fantastic! I thought the sounds he used on his original score were atmospheric, eerie and fantastic so if you say that it’s almost spot on to the original then this is great news.
I recently read Richard Hartley’s interview in the latest issue of Doctor Who magazine and he mentions that he tried his best to match the sounds of his old synths that he used in the original 1986 score to the vst emulations he has on his Mac. Sadly, he gave away his old vintage synths shortly before he was commissioned to re-record the score for the Blu-ray release but has managed to sample some of the sounds from the Emulator II before he gave it away and has the vst emulations of the Yamaha DX7 for the re-recording.

I’ve just listened to Richard Hartley’s re-recorded score to Mindwarp on the Blu-ray Season 23 collection and I have mixed feelings about it. It does sound close to the original but there are certain sounds missing or replaced.
I am disappointed that the cinematic orchestral pad sound heard at the beginning is replaced by what sounds like an odd low mono synth drone or a cello which doesn’t sound as cinematic as on the original score and it sounds a bit off. Cello is used to replace the original orchestral sound thoughout the episodes. Also absent on the re-recording are the ethereal wind chime sounds that I liked and have been replaced by a different sound.
However, other sounds sound close identical. Anyway, I’m still looking forward the the scores being uploaded on here soon.

Also gone is the beautiful guitar-sounding solo when Peri explains to Yrcanos what love is in Episode Eight. It's only a few bars, but it's a golden moment in the score, now replaced with a bog-standard synth sound on the re-recording.

Tbh, it a shame that the original is now consider lost due to the BBC careless ways of archiving stuff back when. It pretty rare when a composer modernized a old school score like this.

Yeah that guitar part was beautifully performed by guitarist Ray Russell and it’s shameful that it wasn’t included in the re-recording. Maybe they couldn’t find anyone who could play guitar so just opted for keyboards instead.
Another sound that is gone is the eerie falling tubular bell sound heard near the end of episode eight when The Doctor is running to save Peri which made the suspense more dramatic. Considering that Richard Hartley used a vst emulations of a Yamaha DX7 on the re-recording it’s strange it wasn’t included.

I'm editing the previously available scores in "episode format", i.e. with the opening and ending titles in with the other tracks. I do like the tracks without the opening and closing themes, too. Is it possible to include those tracks with the ending/openings too? Thanks!

So I figured I might see how much music from 100,000 B.C. is played with minimal SF/X and voices. There's not much, but it's clear that Norman Kay was composing with a very small ensemble. One of the early tracks is nothing but a violoncello and a clarinet! Yet there are some action scenes where much of the music is hidden behind SF/X and shouting.
Anyone know of a program to extract notes from music?
Anyone think, "Hey, this would be fun to try and recreate"?

I wonder if any of those pieces of music are played with little to no back ground noise, and if they could be captured. Some people here working on the new series do a good job of electronically getting rid of those kinds of things.

There are only some pieces of Richard Hartley’s original score that have little to no back ground noise but unfortunately most of it does.
Unfortunately, by the time Richard Hartley was commissioned to re-record the Mindwarp score he gave away most of the vintage synths and equipment that he used on the original score.
Fortunately, I own the same vintage synths that he used and a few years ago I attempted to recreate his Mindwarp score using those synths but due to other commitments I didn’t get to finish it. Now that I am a little bit unhappy with his re-recorded Mindwarp score I have decided to continue with my recreation which sounds more like Richard Hartley’s original score than his re-recording.
I will upload samples on here whenI get the time.

Afraid I didn't get to that 5.1 link in time, Mortadelo, any chance of a re-up?
On another note, I'll be ripping Torchwood now. I hadn't seen it until very recently but it's quite enjoyable, and the music is pretty great. I won't go too far into depth for each and every episode, but all of the scores are quite good and are very reminiscent of 2006 DW as well, tons of Stylus RMX and even some of the same synth engines. The themes are great, and though the overall mixing of the episode audio is a bit messy, it all sounds very cohesive and makes for a great listen.
Here are the first eps of series 1.

Yeah my mistake. I took a look at the Tardis Fandom wiki page and it had a page with information about the Series 1 & 2 soundtrack on there. The Plot and Look Right then Leave have no episode named where they appear in the show. I don't remember hearing the version of Look Right then Leave on the album on the show anywhere apart from the speed up version on Cyberwoman. The Plot I can't find much on that theme either.

Shame about the phaser effect. Is that how its presented on the DVD or something from the recording? Cause it sounds horrible.
Great finds. Shame Infinite Quest wasn't in 5.1. That story had a TON of unreleased music used.
The Infinity Quest and Dreamland on the German release of the Bluray which came out back in February apparently has 5.1 audio on the disc according to Bluray.com whereas the UK edition is 2.0 stereo. I don't own it so I can't confirm but it might be worth checking out since the animate doubles have never had any sort of official score release. I am thinking it may only be Dreamland in 5.1 and not The Infinity Quest.

Other way round, we know Dreamland had a 5.1 mix on broadcast, which is how Zak103 was able to do his edit, but The Infinite Quest was created as part of Totally Doctor Who so most likely only ever had a stereo mix. Despite that, it's likely that the bluray release only has stereo mixes for both.

Yeah sorry that was a typo. I did mean to say Dreamland had a 5.1 mix and not The Infinity Quest. It makes sense that Dreamland would have a surround mix as opposed to The Infinity Quest which if you look at the designs, you can instantly tell it's part of Totally Doctor Who. Wasn't The Sarah Jane Adventures only a stereo 2.0 mix on the bluray and DVD versions despite there probably existing a 5.1 mix for series 1-5?
Amazon has series 3 in HD 5.1 for SJA and Google Play has, "The Invasion of the Bane" Pilot in upscaled HD or apparent upscaled HD that preceded the first series but it's only a stereo mix as far as i know. The only upscaled to HD standard version I can find online of the pilot even though the first two series were recorded in standard definition much like the first four series of doctor who up until Planet of the Dead which is when they first switched to HD (2009)

Only for series 3-5, when they switched to HD. I have 5.1 mixes for all of series 3-5 except Sky Part 1 from recordings of the BBCHD broadcasts. If 5.1 mixes exist for series 1&2, I don't think they've ever been broadcast with them.

I think if Doctor Who' Series 1 from 2005 has a 5.1 mix then I would think series 1-2 has a 5.1 mix somewhere. Did they never air any episode of series 1 or series 2 on BBC HD upscaled back when it aired on TV? I know not too long ago about maybe a 1 year ago, they aired every episode from every series on BBC Iplayer and BBC HD on TV so they must of either upscaled them to HD when they showed the first two series on the HD channel or showed them in their original aspect ratio.

Wow, this is incredible work, mate. Where'd you source the Children of Earth cue numbers from? I had a look into ASCAP / GEMA some months ago and there's little in the way of specifics, totalling I believe only one entry on GEMA. It's a shame that Foster is silent and there's little interest in the score, as it's my favourite TV score ever.

Maze Theory, who created Doctor Who: The Edge Of Time VR Game, have released the soundtrack for the experience for free until November 8th!

It has references to the Doctor Who Theme & definitely has Segun's Style even though its Richard Wilkinson who composed the score for this.

Not That I can see, thats the only link they provide, the version with the actual release might be. I also love the score, its got hints of Classic who with Murray & Segun influences too. I could hear this stuff in Series 12.

Random request, but I was wondering if any of you wizards have been able to isolate the vocals from 'The Dark and Endless Dalek Night' so that it's just the 'backing' track that remains like it was featured a few times in the Series 4 two parter? Thanks!

Which specific tracks evoke the Murray feel for you, Chris666eden? Or are there any highlights you'd particularly recommend?

So I'm trying to do an "episode edit" for "The Daleks." There's one track at the end of "The Survivors" called "TARDIS Doors Open" according to the latest release. Indeed, the beginning of that track is played when Susan opens the doors to return to the storm; however, the second half of the televised track is more storm "music", and not the second half of the "TARDIS Doors Open" track.
That bit isn't in "Thunder and Wind", "More Storm " or "Dying Storm".
Has anyone any idea?
There's another part in "The Escape" where the Dalek's hand appears that seems to be in cue 10A but isn't.

Maybe a future release then like you said.
I can definitely hear Segun in there for sure and if series 12 had this, I could hear it.

I'll be ripping through these as I work on DW as well, so I can go back to a somewhat regular uploading schedule.
Hope you all enjoy!
Many thanks, zak103 - this is greatly appreciated.
One comment - you seem to imply that the FLAC versions are converted from the MP3 versions (apologies if I'm misunderstanding), but if so I don't think this would improve the quality, it would just make the files bigger.

So I was thinking (though this isn't about soundtracks) about that little blurb that had the future Ace talking about when the Doctor "let her go." And I'm thinking, what with technology always becoming cheaper, that Sophie Aldred and Sylvester McCoy might star in a new story about Ace's final adventure with the Doctor _digitally altered to appear their younger ages_. So it would fit right in after "Survival".
Sort of like how "Night of the Doctor" bridged "Enemy Within" and "The Time of the Doctor."
Well, just an idea.

I am currently in the process of making the Soundtracks for season 23 using the isolated scores so keep and eye out for them in the VERY VERY near future.
Currently got all I need to make it and so I will have it done before the month is over.
How is the soundtrack coming along?

You needn't apologize for taking a long time, because of school. We are all very grateful that you are doing this! School is important, get that done.

Don't worry about the artwork. I made this sometime last year, with Clayton Hickman's DVD cover art. Hope you like it!

The Torchwood edits, previous ones included, are my first to be done natively in FLAC. Not my personal preference, but I know many prefer it.
On that note, here's the rest of Series 1.
Again, I don't have much to say on each individually, only that they're all quite a good listen and were mildly enjoyable to edit.

I must say, cobbling the disc below together, the OST really is more of the Series 2 soundtrack. Shame, but I suppose it'll be helpful moving on.
Also included is unused material from Out of Time, as (for some reason) a reasonable amount varies from the cues uploaded to Foster's SoundCloud. The cutting room is a mystical place, indeed.

Series 2 coming soon, and more DW when I can get my hands on the episode rips I need to finish Series 7.
Hope you all enjoy!
