By-the by, did you ever get working on this project DrMatt? I know there were 4 original music tapes but I've never seen hide-nor-hair of them. I did hear a rumour Jim Mortimore was going to do some re-mastering too (there were some tracks on the CD that came with the Justyce Served book) but his page on bandcamp remains bereft of them....

Regardless, Happy New Year and thanks for all the amazing soundtracks you have gifted us with this year.

+1 for that when you get time.

I seemed to have mislaid my tv movie soundtrack. As detailed in Dr Matt's post here, "#post3340 (http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/doctor-who-collection-all-soundtracks-72196/138.html#post2314734)", there seems to have been a very detailed movie soundtrack posted on here at some point, but I can't find. What's better
Original Soundtrack or Music Cues?

It depends for me... when arranging my suites its easier to have cues. That way the music is truly presented in scene order. (Silence In The Library/Forests Of The Dead was a massive pain because I had to edit the tracks presented on the Series 4 soundtrack to be scene order!) However, I generally prefer listening to the cues in longer tracks like DrMatt creates.

Does that make sense?

I don't remember which ones have tracks but some of the photo galleries are so badly mixed together (very sad really) so it makes getting some of the tracks separated almost impossible.

The Seeds Of Death, The Ambassadors Of Death and The Ice Warriors all have some Simpson music in them. I can't recall EVERY story that does off the top of my head...

Hi guys - here's the main chunk of my 50th anniversary post. Real life issues have delayed work somewhat, and there are still a few albums to 'revisit'. But for now, here is my Doctor Who soundtrack collection as it stands, compiled from isolated-scores and (now deleted) official CD releases - available in MP3 & FLAC, all with full hi-res cover art (and/or scans).

Funny you should say that. I've been ripping and editing sound effects from the classic series for a while now, with some pleasing and unpleasing results, as well as gathering those from various CDs, DVDs or albums over the years. Or even from other programmes.

In some cases such as background sounds to control rooms etc, I grab a few seconds of sound and loop it. Sometime it works very well, other times not so. Mainly for my own pleasure, as I'm a sucker for TARDIS sound effects.

I've been going through them one at a time and I'm currently up to the Pertwees. It has also been fun spotting their reuses. Those Dalek doors from the original story pop up all over the place.

Those DVD galleries mix and merge the effects and can be quite annoying!

It's a good piece. "City of Death" was a nice and simple tune for DW, not an "action" piece, but really captured the soul of that show of the Doctor and Romana in Paris. It's a shame the source music was not properly preserved by the BBC. I wish you luck on it. Look forward to hearing your arrangement.

Do you have the ability to download the Google Chrome browser? That also handles mega links fine. Until fairly recently, I was using an older OS for years and couldn't access them either.
My OS is about 6 years old, Mac OSX 10.5.8, and many of the latest versions of the browsers that Mega requires aren't compatible. Again, thanks for all the suggestions, you've all been most helpful.

Looking for the effect of the TARDIS trying to land in 1938, that slow, stuttering version.

As for links, I don't understand why everyone doesn't just use Mega. The links never die, and it's wicked fast, and no ads.

Excatly as I predicted... the complete score for the TV Movie. And this would be the one disc that's 60 minutes long. Leaving the other 10 to be 78 minutes. Which means the Ninth Doctor's disc will be 78 minutes.

Only the original poster can edit that first post, and he has not been seen around. So no way to really update the first page. Best bet is to start on the last page and work backwards. MOST of the links have been updated and reloaded.

I Just pray it's unreleased music. If it is 78 minutes it has to be. And I hope they release either the Snowmen or Series 7 Part 2 Theme Tune on the 11th Doctor Disc instead of re-releasing Doctor Who XI which I can see them doing because of these mysterious licencing issues.

If they include the original Doctor's Theme when He kisses Rose and absorbs the Time Vortex then i'll be over the moon :)

Hi Chris

Thanks for this information. I have passed it on and I hope that some time in the near future it will be possible to release more of the music from the Murray Gold years, but it is not the situation that we have it here and can just put it out unfortunately (otherwise we would have done!). It is really helpful to know where the demand lies though and we do take note of requests when we licence material from the BBC.

The box sets are meant to represent all the Doctor Who composers, past and present, showing how the music has developed and evolved. I know this may be frustrating for Murray Gold fans, who are incredibly loyal and have bought all previous releases, but it will bring Murray's music to a wider audience and also, give it a perspective it may previously not have had.

Anyway, I will lobby on your behalf for more unreleased Murray tracks.

All the best

So there not ruling it out which is interesting. if, like they say, its a representation of how the music developed and evolved then the 9th doctor CD should contain unreleased music for the purpose of showing Murray Gold's early material which was made in the same way previous composers had gone about it and the 10 and 11 disc's show how his music became more orchestral and bigger budget.

They might Just surprise us but to be honest we may all be hoping far too much for something that just isn't happening.

Bear in mind that you say that email is from a few months back and things can change at any given time. I think they only JUST finished mixing the discs for the 11 disc set so things may have changed. Something has to fill up the disc space for the ninth doctor CD. It has to be new stuff

I wouldn't know. I do know that some of the music that's been presented on photo galleries or on the 50th Anniversary Collection from Dudley Simpson were pretty much just lifted from the film/tape prints of the episodes. I noticed this specifically with The Invisible Enemy. I had already lifted the same music from that story with the exact same length. I'm guessing very little is actually available as a "master tape" or some such thing and that most of what we will get on the 11CD set that wasn't on the 50th anniversary collection will just be music lifted from the episodes, much like I have done on my soundcloud page with Underworld.

He doesn't answer those sort of questions simply to avoid being pestered and pressurised into 'releasing them', which is not down to him but down to the various labels who have the rights to release the music.

One of the problems is that he is not the one who decides how these various compilations are handled. That is down to Silva Screen. Some people in other places forget that. So he doesn't respond.

He did once say that there was enough Dudley Simpson material for about one and a half CDs.

Yes, it would be cool, but I somehow doubt it. In Day of the Doctor, I think I've listened many "old favorites" : the amount of new composition seemed quite small. Time of the Doctor had maybe more new things, but the last scenes of Eleven for example re-used existing tracks (except for Twelve's appearance)...

Chris666eden

There will definitely be a OST for Day Of The Doctor And Time Of The Doctor. Possibly combined onto 1 disc because I imagine it will be like the Sherlock CD's. They have like 21 tracks on them so I guess Day/Time Of The Doctor will have a small but substantial amount of music. We probably won't hear about it till at least March/April time.

Does anyone have a somewhat clean rip of the Doctor Who Unreleased Music - The Day Of The Doctor - Different Casing, Same Software - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBB1EQIM7zo)

first used in Day of the Doctor, also in Time of the Doctor when Clara says "One Thing...give me those big sad eyes"

There is a 9.75 gig bluray rip around, it has great audio an all channels. Maybe someone could get it and start ripping. I have it, and there are some that can be ripped almost completely, only background noises like birds remain.

That's cool. The only problem with Day Of The Doctor is that the music channels had echos of the voice like the scenes with the 10th doctor when he rides out the tardis on horse and the later scene in the shack about changing their mind.

Does this blu-ray rip have those echoes removed? The first scene in the shack when the war doctor arrives, there's no echo and its pretty much clean. the second scene set in the shack has echoes everywhere. seems like a deliberate attempt to stop us from ripping the music from the discs/broadcasts.

Blogtor Who just posted the details on disc 10 of the Tardis Box collection and once again disappointing. Just a collection of best cues from Series 2 - Series 4: The Specials. Lots of comments about how they won't be buying it and they have saved themselves 200 because the 9th disc was the decider for them.

640 tracks mixed for Time Of The Doctor plus a load more. not all must have made it to the final mix of the episode. Let's hope they take pride of place on the Day Of The Doctor/Time Of The Doctor Soundtrack that will eventually appear.

If 640 were made for Time Of The Doctor (Considering half was reused music) how many tracks were made for Day Of The Doctor?

640? thats more than every bit of music released in all of new who

More than likely each track is only a small snatch of music, not a complete track. Plus, there might be multiple versions of some tracks with different instruments used, possibly some of Ben experimenting. So 640 tracks could be 640 recordings of the Orchestra playing music that hasn't been edited together into separate tracks yet.

on a separate note id love to have the musical only version of Mad man in a box used without the singing in the background, its like an instrumental only version and was used in "flesh & stone" at the end when hes talking to River, really good version i must add.

That was going to be my response. No other Simpson scored Hartnell stories are listed so it has to be music from "The Chase".

There's enough material that's liftable from the DVD rips for me so I can only imagine what Ayres or anyone with better technology than what I have could lift from those episodes. ;)

Really? Sometimes the effects rather add to the music. I can't imagine some of the music without the Fungoid noises. I try to cut out dialogue (obviously) bumps, and clatter and, when possible, breathing! Some times it is noticeable, other times not at all. It is nice when there are cues that have no effects or ambiance running over them and there are quite a few in The Chase and other stories.

I must say, I do rather enjoy making these, and did them all up to Nimon. I occasionally make better ones. The Savages and The Celestial Toymaker I updated since the better recons became available.

I can start uploading 300mb rar files from sendspace or whatever. The magazines in question progressively got larger and larger and so each file after Seasons 12-14 are going to be by the series, if you know what I mean. All the Space & Times covering the first three Doctors are very thin and don't take up too much space. Granted this is a music thread, but if the interest is there... It'll take a bit of time.

Ambiance I don't mind. Nticeable clanging and banging and breathing and footsteps distract me whilst listening to a "score" or a "suite".

My era collections are not meant to include EVERY scrap of music we can extract from every single episode. They're more of a "Greatest Hits" packaging as it were. lol I think everyone will enjoy them.

Especially the Eccleston set as its already better than what Silva is releasing in that 11 Disc set. ;)

@ImpossibleEgo

Been a while since I was on this site, but have been catching up from around Page 179 (did a search for "City of Death" and ended up finding your Pertwee Era Collection referenced in #4458 and worked forward from there). I am and was VERY excited by the prospect of other Doctor's Eras being released!

Your upload track for 075 Robot links to a missing file (#4868), but the Genesis of the Daleks one works fine, any chance of a reupload effort for Robot?

Also, I'm one of those silly non-technical, old fashioned types who wouldn't know 128Kbps to 256 (or I might if I listened to one then the other, but...that's different) so if anyone could share the Time and the Rani one peeps were talking about in the past month, I'd appreciate it. :-)

As for CMS scans, I believe i have the whole collection available on my hard drive, along with all the novelizations and such. :-)

However, after hearing your efforts, my heart did go a-flutter...it's getting better than that which was heard during The Proms!

Looking forward to hearing the final results.

I've managed to reassemble the Blind Man Buff waltz better than before. If you've heard this story, it's a one minute piece that is looped during the first and third episodes several times, and you don't hear a clean version of it without someone talking or shouting. However, there are bits where no one is doing that, and astonishingly, you can fit them together to make the one minute waltz. The only problem is the sound track, which comes from the latest LC recon, is derived from different sources so the sound quality keeps fluctuating. Really annoying. Still, it is better than the sound track they used for their 1999/2000 recon, which had been crassly edited and played at the wrong speed. And this is where the earlier CT music edit came from.

This version of Robot has less racket than the 2009 edit and is four minutes or so shorter. Not missing much, unless you like machine gun fire and stomps.

I can't update The Myth Makers since the LC sound track wobbles on any sustained note! Bloody annoying as the quality otherwise is really good. I'm trying to remember if I've done new versions of anything else recently. I think I tarted up Fury From the Deep, using a new LC sound track as anything beyond their latest version had an annoying fluttery sound running through the episodes, which people with memories of VHS video tapes will recall when a copy went wrong.

With gnawingagony embarking on his In Vision uploads, for which I am so eternally grateful, I felt the need to upload something myself (even if everyone has them). I fell in love with fanzines in the early '90's and am always surprised that you cannot download all the old issues on the internet. Pleasure. Go ahead, use them.

I was thinking of redoing Keys of Marinus, Sensorites, Reign of Terror and Planet of Giants now that they have been DVD'd. They would be a tad sharper than the ones I did five years ago or so. There are probably more that I could upgrade with the sharper DVD sound since I got a little behind on DVD collecting last year, and the year before. I did them all around about 2008/9 so anything after that might be a good idea. I really want to improve The Evil of the Daleks now that there is much better sound and as a soundtrack, it is magnificent.

I don't think I've done any others recently except Fury From the Deep, possibly Underwater Menace (but not much for that one frankly). I'd like to revisit some of my other edits just to remove more extraneous bangs and crashes. When I replayed Robot recently I was surprised how much racket I let slip by! Don't think it bothered me too much at the time and no one was giving me marks out of ten, they were just for me, and then You Tube - until that account got suspended. Sigh. As I say this was five years ago or more, and every now and then I notice some music video uploaded and thought 'I recognise that clumsy edit and fade out!' Interestingly, some of my edits came to over half an hour and I would cut down some of them to fit the You Tube ten minute length they had in them days. So 23 minutes became just twenty, and 34 minutes becomes 30, that sort of thing.

One thing I did do recently for a laugh was put the isolated music from recent releases and DVD picture galleries in situ with my edits. You know, Frontier In Space, Carnival of Monsters, Android Invasion, Sun Makers, The Invasion of Time, Seeds of Death, The Invasion...

Nice to see other people have the same idea and desire as I do concerning the music.

I have the complete unreleased music for series one of new series Doctor Who, but that's presented as it is on the 5.1 sound mix on the series 1 boxset, riddled with sound effects and echoed voices... I know some people on here have posted amazing quality unreleased music that is free of sound effects or very nearly, and if they'd be willing to share how they edited the music, I'd sit through and edit ALL of the music for series one...

That is pretty great. I always liked that episode - one of the more successful episodes, I thought. A serious take on an SF trope, sensitively handled so it was relatable with real-world emotions. And a great, great soundtrack, not as overbearing as some of TW's were. Thank you so much!

I actually have two tracks of music used in "The Reign Of Terror" from the original tapes. ;)

If you can come up with a new set for "The Evil Of The Daleks" I would be most grateful as I was just trying to clean up the music I used from your original set and was wishing it could be cleaner audio.

And now... a sample track from my "The William Hartnell Era" ...

A fan sent me the two tracks years ago and I have no idea where they got them from.

As for requests... I'm open to suggestions for stories for Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee and Tom Baker. Davison - Tennant's discs are done (Eccleston's is thusfar the shortest but still contains more music than what's going to be on the 11 CD set) and Smith's won't be much of a problem.

If you check out my Soundcloud page there are other suites that I've mixed included there, Some will be included on the set once the "discs" are finished and some will simply be bonus tracks on my Soundcloud or possibly a collection of music from the entire series.

He rarely confirms or denies. It's only recently we had any idea which Dudley Simpson bits survive. If he did have them, they could have featured in The Reign of Terror dvd unless the Myers estate wanted a fortune, or denied permission. It's one thing for the extant episodes to be released or transmitted, but isolated, different kettle of fish.

The only way to get a true complete score is to rip the music from the 5.1 mix of the episodes, but those are often littered with sound effects and echoed voices...
