Well, I finally started watching Star Trek Enterprise today. Hope it was worth picking up season 1 & 2. I was surprised to see a Klingon in the 1st episode.

Well for me, the final episode of Season 2 and the Season 3 are great, Season 1 is ok, and the end of Season 4 is a disaster.

The end of the Temporal Cold War at the begin of Season 4 is my best relieve of the show. 3 year of time torture is enough !

I like all of enterprise.
The cast, stories, and effects. Granted a few errors (the borg story and the fact that no infomation is on file for when picard first encounters them...) and of course the finale! ( as starfleet mentioned) but otherwise very enjoyable and well acted.

Especially the 3 part aguments story of s4 (good old brent spiner)

Well so far I don't like the Vulcans, I am surprise we are not at war with them :) I thought Jeffrey Combs made a good Andorian. The Enterprise seems a little outgunned compared to the ships it has so far had to face.

Here's something from the Dr Who thread that might have a wider interest here - the original UK Star Trek trailer from 1969 (transmitted immediately after episode 10 of the Dr Who story "The War Games"):

It's terrible quality but is almost certainly the only copy:

Marc Cushman's "TOS 3" has been out awhile on the publisher's site, now on Amazon too:

Publisher site: These are the voyages: tos - Home (http://www.thesearethevoyagesbooks.com/)
Amazon site: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0989238172

My review of Book Three:

A Perfect End to the Tilt-a-Whirl Tale of TV’s STAR TREK

These Are the Voyages: TOS Season Three is finally in release! This monumental book series by Marc Cushman illuminates the background and creation of the world-bestriding colossus that is Star Trek.

The reason these books take so long to produce is the miles-deep research involved. Over a span of years (and in some instances, decades), Cushman was able to interview the principal creators, and also achieved access to tons of studio paperwork, story proposals, casting lists, budget memos, and other original documents.

He puts this together with contemporary press coverage and retrospective quotations from cast and crew, and, hey presto! the answer to every TREK or pop culture fan’s dream!

We have in-depth descriptions of each episode’s genesis, development, and production; narratives of crew and cast changes; and for me the most interesting of all, the part telling the day-to-day stuff. We learn how much time was spent on this stage or that; the changes in a character’s name or which directors were sure-footed or floundering; and about a gazillion other details that make you feel like a tribble on the wall.

As I noted in my reviews of the first two books in this series, another mind-blower is the inclusion (and explanation) of the TV ratings for Star Trek’s NBC run. Contrary to the popular narrative that Trek flopped in the ratings, we are shown that nearly every week, the show either won or took second place in one or both of its half-hour segments. My own conclusion is that show creator Gene Roddenberry was too much of an irritant to NBC, Desilu, and Paramount executives. (Read these books for plenty of ammunition for this opinion.)

As I wrote in 2013 to Marc about this topic: “GR’s behavior once again proves that, while some idols have feet of clay, others replace clay with something more nasty. This kind of behavior – me-first; willing to cross ethical and legal boundaries to benefit yourself; fire good, loyal, devoted employees to install others you like better – makes me sad.”

Also, Star Trek was (of course) an expensive show to produce, nearly bankrupting Desilu before the production company was sold to Paramount. So, the factors of expense plus “that darn Roddenberry” and his rebellious attitude were a couple of the major factors that doomed the series.

As I pronounced when I encountered the first book, “TOS One,” this is going to be the primary research document for future researchers. The only thing to be wished for is an index of names. But, so loaded is every page, any index would be about as long as the book!

Now, I consider myself an original Trekker. I watched the show on NBC and in syndication; I taped episode audio from TV speakers on my “cassette-corder”; I’ve had TREK nonfiction published in several volumes of the “Best of TREK” book series; I have about a hundred books and magazines concerning the whole TREK thing.

Still, I can about open any of these books at random, point a finger on any page, and find something I didn’t know.

You cannot be knowledgeable about TV production in the 1960s, and about the peculiarly American phenomenon known as Star Trek, unless you have read these books.

TRUTH IN REVIEWING: I am an editor for this book series.

NO, I don't get a commission or anything. But I wanted to remind everybody about this great series. Lots of great info here!

LaLa Land Records launched their complete Star Trek: The Original Series music collection a couple of years ago with an event at the Egyptian Theatre. The highlight was composer Gerald Fried playing several of his best-known Star Trek pieces. For those of us who love the music from the original series, it was nothing less than electrifying. Larry Nemecek captured that performance on video for his Trekland blog. Via Jim Alexander and Jeff Bond.

Thanks for the link (and for the correct link by msuperfan). I had seen (and downloaded) another version of this event, which also had the missing video from the start and end, but in a less quality, video-wise (no zoom), so this is definitely an improvement! A real gem for any true classic trek music fan, presenting the last living composer of the great 7 or 8, who were part of the music production in the 60ies!

Gerald Fried had recorded this same suite before in a studio recording (with another piano player), and that suite was available as an official download only. If anyone is interested, I will share it, just let me know.

i recently rewatched voyager, and i am afraid i enjoyed that a lot more than when i was watching for the first time.
i might need to add, i am one with a loving eye, so I am convinced there are major flaws, i just thought, it was good despite all the criticism...
so, there is more to 7 of nine than just her dress, there are strong characters, really good episodes (yes, some weak ones too), it is worth watching...at least from my point of view.

How about a fresh start? I propose starting two new threads, one in discussions section and one here in downloads. After all just about every download link has been deleted.

I was going to just do it myself but I though it would be more courteous to ask you all...what say you shipmates?

I don't think it is a good idea to split this thread. Why take "X" amount of participation and then split it in two? That just dissipates things. I like to hear about all alngles of TREK. I just hope something will come along that sparks some more discussion. I'm running a little low on extra time, what with April Foolishness at the Mark's Super Blog (http://markssuperblog.blogspot.com/) -- but would like to hear about anbody's angle, not "only" discussion or "only" music.

The only reason I suggested starting two new threads is because this thread breaks forum protocol by being both discussion/downloads. Sure there are other threads in the downloads section that do the same thing but I am a "everything in it's place" kind of guy I just wish the staff here felt the same way.

The new downloads thread would have an index in the first post of what could be downloaded making it a handy resource. Instead of starting a new discussion thread we could have a mod move & re-title this thread over to discussions.

I liked the Borg stuff, but I never felt much connection to Voyager's cast. Except for 7, they all kind of annoyed me. And the premise of limited resources really got downplayed in the end. Now the Equinox at least looked it's age. Apparently Janeway had folks repainting the ship all the time. Even the replicators would start not having materials after time. And they must have been building new shuttles all the time. Voyager is a lot smaller than a Galaxy class ship, there are only so many shuttles. I did really enjoy the look and feel of the Delta Flyer though. I would not be surprised if when they got home Starfleet adopted it as a new shuttle class. Bigger than a shuttle, smaller and newer than a Runabout.

Farewell to Yeoman Janice Rand - Grace Lee Whitney. April 1, 1930 - May 1, 2015, RIP.
For me, she always was part of the central core of tos trek characters, even if she only appeared in 8 episodes during the first half of season one. But she returned in the TOS movies I, III, IV and VI, in Voyager ("Flashback"), and later in two fan productions: "World Enough and Time" (Star Trek: New Voyages), and, finally, in "Star Trek: Of Gods and Men". And don't forget: she always was very accessible on her countless appearances at trek conventions, where she always showed her love for fans.

We won't forget you, Grace, may you now rest in peace!

(...) Yeoman Janice Rand (...)

It may be interesting, that this Yeoman is a very difficult therm to translate it in the german language.
The germans translate it into "Bootsmann", and that not really a lucky choice, because it's the german word for "boatswain" or "bosun"...
The only word that I have found and that may fit is "Schreibstubenunteroffizier".
That discribes a staff duty soldier in an orderly room.

But nevertheless: Farewell Mrs. Whitney!

Tributes to Grace:

A short documentary on her from 1993, from the "American Journal" series:

Then I found this bit from 2009, a most revealing and honest interview with her, where she tells what REALLY happened back in the 60ies:

... and, on a lighter note, this great tribute to our most lovely trek Yeoman ever:

I believe it involves a visitor from the future, who insists that a humpbacked whale must be run over by a mail truck to prevent the Soviets from landing on the moon in 1969. Or maybe, it's about a Horta being the real sculptor of Michelangelo's David, which in the Enterprise's time will hold a code to deciphering an age-old prophecy on how to defeat the Borg, who it is discovered need Spock's brain to run their collective. However, when an away team discovers a talking oil slick, somebody with a bumpy forehead tries to mate with Scotty's port nacelle.

I'm pretty sure that this is what my dream said last night. I bet you can't prove me wrong!

Just make sure to scrape off your shoes before you step onto the rug! ;)

Semi-seriously, I think the new movie series is about as good a balance between new-audience attractiveness and old fan nods as we could have expected in this world of sin. Sure there could have been many things done differently, but this Trekker can watch with enjoyment and be glad we don't have "Cloud Minders The Movie" coming soon ...

I went as far back as Jan 2015.

Any mention of downloads really just refers to other threads.

As it has turned out to be a discussion thread, I'm going to close it. (since OP is not around).

If anyone wants to continue:
A) Download links, please create a new thread in the download section.
B) Discussing, please create a new thread in one of the appropriate discussion forums: http://forums.ffshrine.org/#general-media-discussion

I would simply move the thread, but I don't want to move it to a discussion section only to have members start posting download links in the discussion forum.

Threads involving discussion are okay, as long there are (active/recent) downloads available.
And, it would certainly help if OP was around for the thread.

In this case where OP is banned, it would really serve better just to create new threads (one for downloads, one for discussion).

Sorry for the inconvenience.

A 2.0 discussion thread has been started here:
