I have been wondering about the 50th Anniversary of TOS in 2016. What is planned? I read that they expect to release JJprise 3 or AKA Star Trek XIII.

Star Movie Bluray's with commentaries replacing Ocri (of all people!!!!!) with original cast and crew memories - THAT would be something I'd like to see.

Okay, just got a PM with a REAL problem that needs to be addressed! When you post a "Reply with quote" of someone who has posted pictures, PLEASE just leave in the quote, but delete the pictures! People with dial-up makes it really hard for them to wait and wait and wait for the text to appear, because of all the pictures. OR, if you are the one with the pictures, you can do like Amanda, and several others, and put them into a separate area that is "hidden", that way they will not load up and drag down the viewing time!
There is one site that I go to, where people post 10, or 20 photos, and then everyone replies with quote, and all the pictures come down, post after post, the SAME pictures over and over. I'm really glad that we don't do that here.

I tried to change the settings, but can only find to block ALL pictures, and I am not going to reset the setting everytime pictures are posted
because of one person. I just asked kirk to as least limit the gifs to not post them, it was a request and he instead increased them.
When Amanda took his side, it only gave him more courage, as seen by his reply of Greg's request. That gif took 22 minutes to load before I was
able to post. THAT is why I asked kirk to help me.

Now that kirk has the upper hand here, he will increase gifs, just to piss me off, and with all of my health problems, I don't need the stress.
So, kirk you win, enjoy your victory.

Gifs are posted all the time in every thread. Kirk is hardly the first, nor will he be the last. I do not think he is intending on increasing your "health issues", I think he is just enjoying talking Trek with a bunch of Trekkies. He is completely harmless and is just looking for friends. I forgot that this friendly thread had become dried up into an elitist ring of folks not willing to play nice with anyone else.

Not on Kirk's "side" I just always back friends. If you do not know that, it is because you are not or have not ever been a friend. Kirk is not your concern. I am fascinated by the gifs. I never post due to not knowing how, but now, I am gonna figure it out and have me some movin' Trekkin' fun!!!!

Yes, I had the same warning from my malware detection program, but there always alternatives, at least in this case:

1. Use jdownloader (it was successful in my case, without any hassle).
2. If that's no alternative for you (for whatever reason), let me know, and I'll re-upload that for you.

My anti-virus just plain blocks it, and no work around gets the page to load. Regardless, I only wanted it to repost here anyway.

I disabled my AV just long enough to grab the file, will be running a full scan now and if all is clean I'll repost on Mediafire .. and I'm happy with Bootleg :)

People, I was NOT telling anyone HOW to post, just want people to be considerate to one another. Kirk had warned me that some mod that I had never heard of warned him that if anyone gets nasty or verbally violent on this thread again, that she would shut the thread down! My name is GREG! I thought that I had made that perfectly clear, my USERNAME is "William", not Will, or Willy, not Bill or Billy, not "WT". Any other use of that, other than "William" is said as an insult!

My TOS sound effects files are NOT "Bootleg", they are "Un-released" tracks, since bootleg files are usually fan created pulls from a DVD source or something like that. The files that I have shared with everyone is done out of my willingness to SHARE, not to get 10,000 "Likes" or to have people tell me how great they think I am. I have stated this in the past and I thought that I made myself clear on that as well.

I take the weekend off and there is a blow-up! come on my friends we can all find some middle ground here!! I don't want anyone to leave over their connection speed! I sometimes forget that dial-up is still around (since I have had DSL for years) so instead of posting large pictures all the time maybe once or twice a week? on certain days of the week! a special Friday before the weekend thing? we all love Star Trek in some form or another, lets not just throw all that we have into the garage can! We are all friends for the love of pete! "That's an Order dammit"! :)

Repeated gifs are bothersome, but just because of all the extra scrolling. It's slightly annoying and nothing to make a big fuzz about.

About writing private stuff, this is a recreational site, we are using it in our free time and free time luckily doesn't come with a set of rules, like say, a workplace.

My dear it's called "Accommodation" you are entitled to your opinion as anyone else is! the rules are sometimes meant to be bent and some allowances are made to accommodate others!! the law or rules are not a straight up yes or no! if they were, we would all be in jail. If anyone can not learn to accommodate another human being or forgive them, then we have no future as a species!

Amanda, all you are doing is putting yourself on the outside! Life is not fair! good and bad times rain on the just and unjust! what makes us different is learning to live with what life throws at us, to rise above it! To lean to go on with our life's and not repeat the same mistakes or live in our sorrow's! or to pass them on to our children or others. As to friends! we all have friends! here or in our outside life's, not everyone is going to get a long with everyone else, that's what makes us all unique! again, everyone needs to learn to respect everyone else and their options (right or wrong)! if for some unknown reason people can not get a long with others, live with it! trust me it well not kill anyone! and maybe over time we can all find common ground one day!! Mine was dealing with the death of my mother! completely different then what has happened to you! 99.9 percent of us are men, you and Sorie are the only females on this Star Trek page! We will never know what it is like to be abused by someone else! we will never feel the same way as you! in simple terms Amanda it would be like asking me what it feels like to give birth? I'll never know!! as men we will never understand! only another woman can understand what you are going through!! We feel bad enough of what has happened to you, but we can not help you!! none of us are therapists! and if someone of us gave you bad advise then what? that would be on our head's!! I have seen to many want-to-be, half ass therapists give the wrong advise and the person took their own life because it did not work out the way they were told it would, I do not what that on my consensus. The only safe place you will find is a licensed professorial therapist! Anything we say, I can guarantee you 100 percent, will not help you Amanda! we will just make matters worse for you, and that is not what we want! We want you to get better, anything you say on here everyone is going to read and your just opening yourself up for real trouble! do yourself a favor Amanda, go get real help! there is no shame in seeking professional help, I had to use the service, because I almost killed a 13 year old kid once! the little shit pulled a gun on me after robbing a small convenience store in one of the small county towns (we call them stop n robb's here in California) it took me awhile to get over that! but I needed help! every time I looked at one of my sons, I broke down and cried!! now I am all better! they helped me face my problem (which was guilt) and I don't blame myself any more and the little shit is a live and well and going on to collage. He does not blame me for what I had to do, it was stupid and he made the mistake and has to live with the scare and trauma! He even went to therapy and is better for it.

I saw that Round2 is releasing by years end or next year a reissue of the cut-a-away model of the Enterprise. This model when built is 22 inches long. I have it
and if you want to make the model whole, not cut-a-away, takes real skill.
Also, new tooling of a 1/1000 scale TOS Romulan Bird of Prey, and 1/2500 scale DS9 set featuring the Defiant, Saratoga and Galor.
It is a companion set to go with the already released Deep Space 9 model.

They are still working on a 1/32 scale Galileo 7 model. Gary Kerr is doing the research. From what I read, it will be scaled 30 foot long.
In trying to match the interior set to the exterior set, the shuttle will have to be longer than stated in the series.
It happened when they did the Jupiter 2 model, a little here a little there to get the math to work out. We shall see.

Felicitations to you for your kind words for an undeserving 'filmmaker' and I use that term looser than Jim Kirk uses his shirts. But honestly, and you've made me "hmm". So, hmm, that's an induction/inference bandwagon I'm not comfortable jumping on. If that's what you feel, fair enough, but ST2009 did nothing for me I'm sorry to say. And I tend to judge a tree by the fruit it bares, and recently the ST franchise tree has been in a sorry state. Perhaps I wouldn't have been so turned-off by the look of the film, the plot, the recasting of my favourite characters and JJ Abrams who markets disposable movies, had it been a modern TREK unrelated to previous installments. I shudder at the prospect of future episodes.

So..... we have cell phones, just like the TOS communicators, we have laptops and IPADDs, just like the tricorder, and now we are going to get a TRANSPORTER??? I think that it will still be some time before we can "Beam" to Paris for a quick lunch!

The Transporter is credited to Star Trek, and it was used before Star Trek in a Movie Serial (please don't ask which, I don't remember) from the 30's or 40's.
It had limited range unlike Star Trek. Since the show is not well known by a long shot, Star Trek gets the mention for it. Also, Rocky Jones, Space Ranger
from 1955 had the first use of the automatically opening and closing whooshing doors. Just a little FYI.

Each of these chromosomes are comprised of between 30,000 and 50,000 genes and intervening sequences, Each gene is further made up of variably sized DNA sequences. As you point out, transporting an inanimate carbon rod let alone a living Homer Simpson, is impossible in the manner that is often discussed on science shows you get on TV. Making a fax copy of Homer say, sending the 'data' to the destination where Homer is 3d printed, AND the original is destroyed is not a viable plan. But it makes for a funny premise of a The Simpsons episode. In my own mind at least.

The One2000 and Kirk101, I can understand where you are both coming from, but unfortunately have to disagree. every time a new Trek series appeared there were detractors but if we did not have the rich choice of series and movies we would have one of the biggest fan bases in Geekdom! As a member of a FB group Destination Star Trek London (878 members) I've heard every view, hate him, love him, etc. His interpretation isn't wrong rather its just that, an interpretation. Having seen the movies with live music last week I can only say that I'm a fan of Star Trek, I'll take the bad with the good, enjoy some immensely, others not so much (some Voyager and Enterprise episodes were cringeworthy!) so I won't complain when JJ does his thing rather I'll watch it and decide for myself.

At least someone's having fun with his interpretation. I on the other hand, am not. While some fans are getting a new film to watch, I'm left waiting wondering when the show is going to start. I'm not here body-slamming anyone who likes the new stuff, it's just that after many years of paying into Star Trek I feel let down as the new films do not meet my expectations. When I compare ST:TMP with the new lot, I'm amazed how classy the old stuff really is.

I Can See Why People Feel let Down By The New Treks Its Looks And Sounds Completly Diffrent And Not Quite Right But The Idea Was To Reach A Younger Audience But It Looks Like Offended The Older Audience [No Offence At Age] But A Lot Of Younger People Hadn't Seen the Old Personally I Had Never Seen TOS, AS And Films1-6 Until Bought On DVD And Honestly I Do Like But Will Always Lean Towards The 3 24th Centry & Enterprise Shows. BUT Would Never Give Up Watching The Oldies :)

I'll always be a Star Trek Fan, I was hoping that the new Trek's would be a little more on the Cannon Star Trek Timeline rather than a whole new Timeline, plus the inconsistencies with char-actors amongst others. I think they could've made a new Trek for the young and older to embrace, with new stories rather than switching events and timelines around. A real new Star Trek was what we were looking for instead of hacking up old stories. But I guess they didn't want to do that for whatever reason. The smart thing would have been to draw all in, but they chose not to. I truly believe they did it on purpose, or they just didn't have it in them to do new stories of the younger crew as originally talked about years ago. I don't like what they did, but I'll always be a Fan. And nice picks Kirk. I think the new effects to TOS are great, just my opinion though I think using a real model for the ship would have been the way to go. Gives a little more real feel to the shots.

When it was in the theatres, Ralph and I would go, night after night, sit way up close, so we could really get the full Panavision effect, and many times, Ralph would just fall asleep, as he was so comfortable, almost like being at home. He wore out the first VHS tape he got of this movie, he loved it so much! Those were really good old days, and I remember them fondly. I also remember the first time seeing WOK in the movies, Ralph was so messed up when Spock died that he had to leave the theatre and wait for the rest of us in the lobby. It took several viewings for him to stay to the end.

The new films don't have that same feeling, don't have the same effect on me. The difference between STTMP and Trek 2009 is like the difference between film and videotaped fan produced stuff. Sure the effects are larger than life, and really blow the action off of the screen, but it is also very generic looking, like most of the super-duper CGI effects today. Like Spielberg said, we need to go BACK to the old school days of SPFX!!

In this context "old school" = "how it's done properly". I've no gripes with CGI per se if it's done tastefully. I personally found many new films to be messy with their CGI. And Spielberg ought to practise what he's preaching, he hasn't made a decent movie since Duel.

My youngest son is in college to write computer code (Java) to use it to get DNA to grow...say a missing finger, arm or whatever a person needs! I really only understand the basics of what he does, because it is so far over my head I have athlete feet on my scalp! :)

My son pointed me to this site UW engineers invent programming language to build synthetic DNA | UW Today (http://www.washington.edu/news/2013/09/30/uw-engineers-invent-programming-language-to-build-synthetic-dna/) This is just a start as he said! San Diego State University and UCLA @ Davis both have programs that are researching these new avenues. He will be attending UCLA Davis next month. I know this is not much, but I'll try to get more information.

It's synthetic DNA. I've heard that scientists have managed to create artificial DNA in a lab some years ago - a double-helix job. However, recent discoveries show that an additional 2 strands of DNA have been identified in us, i.e. we have a Quad-NA. Not only that, it appears that our 'junk' DNA is far from junk and there appears to be a language not dissimilar to a spoken language embedded in our DNA. Freaky.

Interestingly enough a lot of the effects in ST09 and ST13 were practical effects, jump from the shuttle to the Narada platform for example, plus a lot of the new stuff for SW VII is being done with models not cgi, I think JJ agrees with you Greg!

My fav is when butch was trying to build his house and tom keeps breaking it to use to hit jerry and at the end butch and jerry have the blue print and butch has a whip to widen and revel tom with a paint brush in one hand a hammer in the other and a saw in his foot building the house

The JJAbram movies I know were made for today's kids, fast in your face action. I like more of the build up the STORY to it's conclusion movies and shows,
like many of the British shows I enjoy. CGI, has that cool factor, and I like it, but love models better, even if I can tell it is a model.

I agree when you say that they look like models i recently watchd the old war of the worlds amd the time machine and i am gobsmaked at how fantastic for what the 50s and 60s they look.
