Fellows, I'm not so firm with Star Trek as a whole. Please can you tell me why Goldsmith's great main theme isn't used in later and recent films? Or, otherwise, why did he had to do a new main theme back in the 70s if they had the material of the 60s series?

I see clearly reasons why Courage's theme is used in some places and even in the most recent sequel. On the other hand, if memory serves right, they didn't used it in XI(?).

Star Wars had this outstanding main theme we won't missed in any film of that series, and I think Star Trek Lack a little in that regard. Nevertheless any Star Trek film I know had great music.

Some thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

Well, in fact the Motion Picture theme was used as the main titles for the Next Generation, and was used in titles for every movie Goldsmith scored for. It is not used in the two newest movies I suppose since they are trying to move away from the established Trek universe. The TOS fanfare is there, but minimally used. :)

But if J.J. Abrams is butchering Star Trek and will butcher the coming Star Wars sequel, how come people all over the world are lining up to watch his butchered works, in IMAX 3D too? By the same token, lovers of Tim Burton's version of Batman must truly dislike Christopher Nolan for desecrating the brooding image of a dark Batman who only comes out at night? And also, who can justify the existence of the two Batman movies by Joel Schumacher? Is Schumacher known as the Butcher of all things Batman? I have seen just about every version of Star Trek out there, except for the novels and books, and some are good, a few are great and some are total rubbish. I, for one, am glad that the Abrams' versions are bringing in new fans to the franchise. Some people are saying that Abrams' movies are good, but they are not Trek. When I consider that defining Trek is actually quite easy, then they are part of Trek, but like they say, haters gotta hate. And I agree that RoboCop doesn't need a remake. But we all know that after the TNG Star Trek movies, none of which made any money, Trek could no longer continue along the same path...

Composers usually want to leave their own mark on stuff, hence why Jerry had his version of title theme and Horner had his. Though the TOS theme popped up within some of the movies. In TMP - every time Kirk does the captains log. In ST3 - when the crew is on Vulcan.

TMP:

Same reason why people keep voting for crooks - idiocy.

Nothing, absolutely nothing is sacred.

Indeed.
Bet they'll eventually remake Back to the future too... once the original creators drop dead... Same goes for Predator, Alien...

Funny how they never remake bad movies (stuff like Hulk doesn't count as it's an adaptation, sourced from a different medium).

AND, I noticed something that I didn't understand. I thought that CBS owned Paramount and Star Trek, but the beginning said "A Viacom company" under Paramount!!! Did I miss something? My DVDs all say "CBS" on them. W T F????

Anyway, I'm sure that there will be many more TREK movies to come, and Abrams will be the golden boy at the studio for years to come!

Oh, well.

I grew up on TOS and I saw Wrath of Khan in the theaters when it came out. So in theory I ought to be on the side of those slamming Into Darkness for its alleged sins against canon or whatever. But I had a grand old time at the multiplex yesterday - to the point where I'm considering going back for a second serving, which is something I never do any more. I love this cast (except for Chekov - who is tolerable), especially Cumberbatch, and the effects work remains outstanding.

It's called "herd mentality".

Whoever wants to, can rationalise the new derivative Star Trek. However, all the rationalising in the world will not conceal JJAbrams as a cinema butcher, or "The Butcher of Star Trek" and soon to be "The Butcher of Star Wars". He's laughing all the way to the bank.

It would have been far more acceptable all round that new characters were created, and not re-issuing existing ones. But this seems to be an ever-growing trend these days. I.e.

Funny you should mention Batman. You know, in my opinion (and that's all it is in this discussion - so nobody get upset please!) I didn't fancy any of the Batman films. They never lived up to the comic books. As for Imax 3d, it doesn't fix cheesy plots and dialogues, and severe cases of overacting. All the good films were made in 2d using mostly 35mm with a few in 70mm decades ago. You also dropped something that other people have mentioned - bringing in new fans. If these so called fans don't like the old Trek, then they're not really Trek fans are they - and then who's doing the hating? But seriously, if you like it, bully for you and I hope you have a good time. Oh, I also like your avatar - it's the old Spock, not the new one. Subconsciously, your allegiances are with the original guard.

Also, regarding Star Wars, will he or won't he use slow motion? I bet he tries a Sam Peckinpah / John Woo job on it.

I just caught an update on the news about JJAbrams, the reporters are saying that he's got a big grin on his face, and in fact has just broken out in laughter as he's making his way to the bank. I'll keep you posted.

>Cosmic Joe
I was thinking the same thing - they never remake bad films. In fact, I'm not against remakes at all. I think someone needs to remake Star Trek 2009 and Star Trek Into Darkness as soon as possible so I can watch them!

The Shaun Cassidy single was released in the U.S. as a promo only. It was only distributed commercially in Japan. Sadly I have been unable (so far) to locate the B-side.

Here's another version -- this is Bob James' Theme from ST:TMP (probably my favorite cover version of a Trek theme) edited together (fan edit) with the Shaun Cassidy song. The sound quality is much better here but you only get a truncated version of A Star Beyond Time.

But we all know that after the TNG Star Trek movies, none of which made any money...
It is interesting that the original series reportedly never made any money. In fact, most television shows and movie never make any money...on paper. The studios rake in huge money, then charge every thing they can to the film or show (whether it is legitimate or not) to avoid paying royalties to anyone else who owns a piece of it. Yet folks like Gene Roddenberry, James Garner and as I recall numerous others have been able to successfully sue their studios, proving in court that the most creative writing in Hollywood occurs in the accounting department and that many films and shows that supposedly never made any money were in fact immensely profitable. So, the idea that none of the Star Trek movies made money is the story the studio loves to tell, but to my thinking the story is highly suspect.

I missed this early on. I believe the first part of this is incorrect. I believe it was available for purchase, but for a very, very short period of time before it was deleted. I don't have the single anymore but I believe the b-side was a track off of one of Shaun Cassidy's albums.

Courage theme is on every Star Trek movie but not referred as a main theme. It is mostly attached in opening credits or end titles sequences. Also sometimes a portion of the fanfare appears briefly on some scenes too.

There are some series of movies that have a signature theme like Indiana Jones or Star Wars, even when each of these films have their own individual thematic ideas. It is a consequence of all being composed by the same person, unlike the Star Trek movies where various composers worked on it along the time.
That's why every composer, from Goldsmith to Giacchino nowadays, created their own main theme yet all of them use, in a greater or lesser extent, the theme of the original series.

Book72
05-29-2013, 10:56 AM
I just don't like the bombastic way Giacchino uses the Courage theme for the end credits in either film - the stop start method in ST09 and full loud full orchestral hit in STID. I like his scores otherwise.

Okay, Gang, I just found out that Michael Okuda had come out with a new TREK book entitled "On board the U.S.S. Enterprise" with a CD included, that took you on a 3D tour of the Enterprise, but WHICH Enterprise, they are not saying. I saw some of the screengrabs of the pages, and it looks pretty nice, with CGI artwork done by Doug Drexler and Darin Doctermann, people like that because (god knows) that good old 'Mikey' couldn't operate a computer that way, hehehehehehe

Looked all over and cannot find any PDF downloads, looks like it's been out for awhile, but couldn't actually find a publishing date!

Worse comes to worse, I will dish out the money and scan the bastard myself, but the thought of giving any money over to that no-talent bum is just making my butt hole itch!

Regarding publishing date, Amazon's listing gives it as March 1, 2013. The illo of the book cover says "The Next Generation" and "1701-D" so that tells you WHICH Enterprise it is. Makes sense since the TNG-TV Enterprise had all of those years' worth of stories which required them to show many parts of the ship, all of which would give them a leg up (unless you're a Horta) on assembling a "complete" tour of that ship.

Well, here is what i found at the Bolt forum. As said, it has SFX and as also said, it might be a bit repetitive. But this is the music as heard in each episode and if someone wants to sort it out and get rid of all repetitions, please do so.

I don't take and i definitely don't want any credits for this. Those go to the original poster, that Amanda identified as IZBOT :)

Don't ask for any re-ups once this is gone unless someone else can step in and fill the gap...

Rapidgator never worked for me. And also this one is Premium only (bummer).

Seems (surprisingly) inexpensive for a book with CD-ROM, William. Might check the local bookshops myself.

Awwww, I see now, now that I can see the cover, hehehehehhe (Don't I really feel like a CLONE!) :)

Amazing that the link demands a premium account, since it is only 200 megs in size, and Rapidgator only does that for anything over 400 megs. I think that if you sign up for a premium account and try to download the files, you would get a notice that the file no longer exsists, or perhaps you'd get some other book. Think it's a SCAM!!!

i have an account with "premiumize me", i could dl that pdf (Star Trek The Next Generation?: On Board the U.S.S. so, did anybody see a password???

Looking back at the Star Trek picture, I wondered if the artist had made a blunder with Scotty's right hand. But I suppose technically it's James Doohan who has the missing finger, not Scotty. In any case it's hard to see the area as he's holding an ear/headphone.

I recall watching a kind of film/tv celebrity show back in the 90s and the crew bumped into Shatner on the street, and he obliged some fans with a hello and a signature before walking off down the road. Which I thought was a nice gesture from him for some complete strangers.

Or was it? Here's something from a pro screenwriter, he doesn't mention Star Trek, but than it's not to hard
to make up your mind, if Star Trek fails (in some places) as an action flick. This guy does B-Movies mostlies or rehashes, but don't mistake his professional niche to make a buck in, with general geniousy:

Talking about books, I saw a Star Trek 2 one in the 80s, but didn't purchase it. Boy, am I regretting that to this day. What's worse I can't even remember the proper title of it. It was more of a docu-book which looked behind the scenes and showed all the CG effects from the computer screen panels on the bridge, and of course the Genesis video. It was truly awesome, especially since that film had the best computer screen panel effects of all the Trek films - a shame they didn't continue with them into ST3. Dare I say, they were almost as good as the ones in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Does anyone have this book and knows the title of it?

I have NO idea which book you are referring to! I have several books on ST2, but none have the behind the scenes that you describe.

Speaking of books, I actually went out today to Borders book store and BOUGHT the Okuda book "On board the USS Enterprise" with it's CD ROM disc, and will begin scanning them tomorrow. I would do it today, but I took the WHOLE morning to get a new front end on my vehicle, MUCHO bucks, and I'm just tired of dealing with crap for the day, so I will relax this afternoon and start fresh and renewed on the morrow, and scan in all the pages, and rip the disc for all you TREK fans out here! Thank you very much William. Any chance you can run over Steven Moffett as well, he is the JJ Abrams of the Doctor Who World. Okay, Gang, here are the files for the "On board the USS Enterprise" program. Apparently you need to burn it onto a CD, and then put it into your computer to run. I tried to run just the data files in my computer and it wouldn't run them. Also, there is a folder called "Visual files" (why they couldn't just call them pictures, I don't know) and they have all the photos from the sets of STTNG, so if you don't get the program working, at least you can look at the pictures, and you can even photoshop them together for a 360 degree panovision photo, which is nice.

I cannot believe that the sound effects they use were just grabbed off of the DVDs or something, you can hear all the foley tracks, with people walking and some faint whispers in the BG, stuff like that. Why didn't they used CLEAN, first generation SFX from the master recordings? What a BONEHEAD thing to do to us TREK fans...... :(

Another MIKEY plan heard from....!!!

Dude!

You said "PENIS" and "ROCK" in the same sentence! ~giggling like a school girl off camera~

It's amazing how Penis Rocks keep showing up all over the galaxy and only Federation-held Territory!

What's up with that?

* Are the Penis Rocks sentient beings from beyond the Delta Quadrant ?
* Did Penis Rocks originate as a "science" experiment between Captain Janeway and the EMH which had gone awry?
* Is it *gasp* yet another CONSPIRACY by the Gorn, Romulans, Cardassians, Wu-Tang Clan, Borg or ( off camera "JUST PICK ONE CIVILIZATION AND BE DONE WITH IT, FER KRISSAKES!!!" ) ?
* Perhaps the Penis Rock is the name of a secret fraternal order amongst Star Fleet Captains involving strange rituals and gigantic, Phallic-shaped rocks?
* Do Penis Rocks have any connection whatsoever with the mystical and still unrevealed HOO-HA Device which debuted in an earlier episode?

That's the prob, it was a long time ago. But as I recall this was a large format book with colour photos (there may have been some b/w), and what caught my attention in particular were the photos of the CG displays and Genesis video used in the film. It's amazing how Penis Rocks keep showing up all over the galaxy and only Federation-held Territory!

What's up with that?

I just started watching it one month ago and wouldn't have thought i like it that much :) Some of the stories are surprisingly human and it is fascinating how this show builds it's main characters with so few, few, few, scenes revolving around that.

Well, I had the same problem a while ago, using Mozialla (Firefox). Then I tried Internet Explorer (which I'm never running otherwise), and it worked swiftly! You may want to try it yourself - zippyshare usually keeps its links for a long time and therefore seems to be a reliable method to share the goods! :)

Walter Koenig was in that episode too!

The second one was S 12 x Ep 2 Butterfly in Shades of Grey.

William Windom was also in Short Fuse.

Leonard Nimoy was in another episode playing a dodgy surgeon. He was also in T.J. Hooker. (A tonne of crossovers in that show!)

A shame Peter Falk wasn't stereotyped into a Trek episode. In a discussion with the Klingons, "Just one more question!" would have been a hoot.

My friend it only gets worse! the up side is your eyes will stop deteriorating or slow way down after you hit about 55 (oh such joy) sleep apnea could be the start of heart problems! you should have it checked out by your doctor! I know, I have it because of my congestive heart failure. All in all you are starting to join the old farts club! wait until your my age and your grand children run into you or jump on you!! Failing memory sucks!! but then what the hell, you don't have to worry about keeping friends secrets anymore, because you can't remember them :)

Asthma can really be a pain in the butt! my mother has it and when the heat of summer kicks in (where I live it gets around 110F to 112F just dry heat) I have to keep her inside with the AC going, making sure she is taking her Albuterol and Advair! and hoping for the best. At lest your still alive and can enjoy life!! take what you can and hold on to it for as long as you can.

Wait until you hit MY AGE!!! 193 at last count! (Some days it really feels that way, hehehehehe)

It's not how long you make life, it's how you LIVE it! During WW2, some guys died by the time they were 19 or 25 or even 30, but they lived it to the fullest! If you stay all clustered up in your own little world, and live like Woody Allen, afraid of everything out there in the "big bad world", and wind up dying at 87, you really haven't LIVED! There are many ways that we can improve our standard of living, to live fuller lives. Try new things, learn a completely new language, like JAPANESE!! I know, it's a hard language to learn, and a difficult country to learn all the manners and customs, but take it from me, it's worth it! Steven Sagal went over there as a young man to learn Karate, and wound up living there for 7 years, because he loved the lifestyle of Japan. I find that there is a great charm to the place, and I had spent about 6 or 7 months over there, back when I was younger as well. I fell in love with a young girl, whose parents didn't approve of her associating with a "Gaijin" (外人, [ɡaidʑiɴ]) or basic English translation: a nonjapanese, or "round eye". Chinese cannot be a Gaijin, because they are not "round eyes" people, but still they are non-japanese, so there are double standards everywhere in the world. Go figure.

But, getting back to what I was saying, you can do more and interesting things to improve your standard of life! Take up the guitar, or learn the piano (YEAH, Baby!!! Heheheehe) Learn painting or sculpting, my wife is a fairly accomplished painter, in her own right. Or you could start writing novels, start with something you know, like your life, or your work, or your particular part of the world. Steven King said that if you can tell a story, you can write a book! F. Paul Wilson, who is a medical doctor, has written SO many great novels, and he started writing medical "thrillers", and then went on to write his "Repairman Jack" series, which is one of the best mystery series that I have ever read, and I would highly advise you all to check him out. A fellow at my local post office told me that he just picked up and read #8 in the series, and he just could not put it down! I told him about several other series like "Sandman Slim" and the "Nightside" series of books that are all very much like the "Dresden files" series, impossible to put down. I only wish that I could write stories like that. I should take some classes and see....

Anyway, try new things and live your life to the fullest! And don't let life's little malady's with your bodies distract you from having FUN!!!! :)

William

It can be a blissing! you finely get your house back and then it's just the two of you once again! (of course you have to get to know your wife again and vice versa) but you can stay up as late as you want to, eat what you want too (well almost) you don't have to worry about pulling your stomach in for anyone any more :) and you can get away with repeating the same conversation you had just a few seconds ago! hmmmm now what the hell was I saying?? Oh Yeah! you can have the same conversation you had just a few seconds ago!! Aww Damn! I said that twice!! What was I saying??? oh forget it I can't remember!! :)

Look at our Trek releases like Disney's Marvel film rollout - 2 times a year, about 6 -8months apart

Voyager is a 2014 release

MV

Since MV has previously stated he would do "Enterprise" before Voyager, and we've only had one Trek release from them this year, that means "Enterprise" is coming this year.

Scott, no human is our superior, no matter what their social standing is. We are unique individuals, but, equal as a species. As for Apollo, the Enterprise wupped ass, no threat anymore.

My Birthday is the 14th, it is also Clayton Moore's...THE LONE RANGER.

Amanda, PCM....YOUNG'UNS!

I agree with you 100 percent! but could not resist the temptation to poke a little fun my friend.

Thank God Clayton Moore is no longer with us, if he could see what Hollywood has done to his beloved (and our beloved) Lone Ranger we would roll over in his grave.

Hello

Does anyone still have the 3 disc LaLaLand set of Jerry Goldsmith's score for Star Trek: The Motion Picture in FLAC format. Hyppycrud posted this up earlier in the thread but the download links have expired. If anyone still has this I would be really grateful if they reposted it. Thanks in advance!

Oh, theone2000, you do have one saving grace after all. You're ill-mannered. You even use one of those atrocious "F"-words while talking to me, the well-mannered "Squire of Gothos"! Furthermore, you are jumping to conclusions, without taking into account that the so-called "Squire of Gothos" of this strange "Facebook" may very well be an imposter - which he must be, of course! Maybe it's you yourself, disguised behind a mask of honor and chivalry. Maybe you are even challenging me to a duel? Yes, it must be! Hip-Hip-Hooray - TALLY-HO! This is better than I'd planned. I shall not shirk an affair of honour! I even brought along a matching set of duelling pistols. Just like the pair that slew your heroic Alexander Hamilton. And, theone2000, I NEVER MISS!!

Albeit, my dear Squire, it stands to reason, those using the F-word, lack in honor and chivalry what they so vividly have in abundance reaped from the hollow trees of swearing, Hi-Ho! :D

Thanks for the link to your 'Bad Ass Digest'. That was a great read. Cheers, friend.

Hulk, as they refer to themselves in the third person, walks out of a screening of Into Darkness, but then has an epiphany: (quote)

" WE LIVE IN THE AGE OF THE CONVOLUTED BLOCKBUSTER.
* * *
J.J. ABRAMS IS AN OUTRAGEOUSLY TALENTED FILMMAKER."

This is just another poor sap, who has been sucked into the jet engine that is JJ Abrams' voodoo empire. He walks in to the theatre and watches the film, then resists a little by walking out early, but it's too late for him; he is now an altered beast. Well, looks like resistance really is futile; for some. Even his ramblings were full of contradictions - he's praising JJ as he's criticising him. Now there's no need to build a story that works - just make it look complicated and the audience will love it. Better still, slap some more fluoride in to the drinks to be on the safe side.

Contradiction, hm. Abrams as a storyteller sucks. I would say that make him suck as director also. But well, Abrams might be good visual artist and that's the only praise Hulk gives to him and i feel i have to a agree, even though I don't like that over saturated style that's void of the tiny, meaningful things in life.

You said that earlier I think. But, and forgive me for not coming right out with it, the reason I recommended that one, was that he added a section in his book to cover the business side of things and how to avoid pitfalls. It was an eye opener for me at least.

Part IV (*in the 1996 edition)
The Business of Scriptwriting
"The life of writing men has always been a bitter business. It is notoriously accompanied, for those who write well, by poverty and contempt; or by fatuity and wealth for those who write ill." - Hillaire Belloc

Chapter 21 - Warning Signs - is about 9 pages long, but highlights the various traps that are employed by producers and go-betweens.

P.S. I'm also reminded of Swimming with Sharks which I can recommend to everyone. It's fiction, and it's a cynical look at the film making business.

I've come to realize, it's so easy to make you humans happy with little things, like sharing some music. But that's the fun of it, isn't it? And fun is the one thing I'm always looking for - eternal life can become boring without it, you see.

BTW, since you have so eloquently applauded me for my generous sharing of music, I'll drop any animosity against you, and cancel our duel for the time being. I accept your apology, of course, dear Sir! :)

Regarding the business i found these two pretty good. The second I really love, I don't have the money to play in THAT game but it's the first book that really gets me excited about the economics involved. E.g. it talks about deficit financing and that a tv show is sold below production costs to network and that it really doesn't make any real mony until it reached it's 100 or so episode when it eligible to be sold into syndication. Makes you understand why crap shows like American Horror Story are serialized in the first place.

Yeah, you need a 50-cal to smash through an ordinary glass mirror. Only joking about the 50 cal (trying not to look worried now). In fact all most people in Britain have to polish is a fucking wanker. So if you're accosted in the street, or in your car in one of those newfangled road-rage incidents, you can rely on your trusty fucking wanker to get you by. You can have a few exchanges both ways and you should live to fight another day. It may get as bad as for passers-by to infer that by sheer coincidence of astronomical odds that two Tourette's Syndrome suffers have become locked in conversation. In fact it may even form the basis of a humourous YouTube video. Ho ho! Unfortunately the fucking wanker doesn't work quite well against the armed robber. Furthermore, preemptive use of the fucking wanker against the armed robber may result in a trip to Accident & Emergency. Anyway I'm keeping my fucking wanker dry for the time being, although some people have been asking for it - not on this thread mind you - not recently at least.

I still got to build mine. The Seaview is my favorite sub, 60's Batmobile favorite car, USS Enterprise (No bloody A,B,C,D, or E) favorite spaceship, and Hindenburg favorite in the air. It is so nice that there are models of all of them.

I will be 55 in September, so I have to show Scott respect, he is my elder. ;)

Likewise where Martha's shirt was usually pink, I found one of her in blue. I figured this would make mine a tads more personal. The pooh bear is a recent addition.....:) Also, one more of the flying sub....

He's touting them in a ton of threads. I was going to report him as spam, but some of his other posts seem legit. I wasn't sure so let it go. The pics are resolved and posted. I know how to do it, but for some reason the last couple times it was glitchy.

I reported him.

Amanda, that U-boat model reminds me, I had propeller propelled uboot as a kid i even took with me on vacations, had it float through diverse swimming pools :D
No remote so you needed to stay close or keep up with. And now I am getting another memory about my first encounter with pools' massage streams(?) years later, but uhm, none of your business, folks :D just lets say i didn't went so far as too... well :P

Amanda, the Seaview looks like the one inside the Seaview that Admiral Nelson has, excellent build! I noticed you did not do the interior, and you are lucky for that, it is a pain for me, as that is the only part of the sub I started. The TARDIS and crew, another excellent build, I do so like it. I do enjoy seeing your models.

It's actually not a u-boat; it is the Seaview, the submarine from Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea. This is (nerd alert!) the second season television version. (Differences in the forward windows and sonar arrays, and the addition of the flying sub and hanger). The movie version was essentially the same aside from the cosmetics. Az' I did not bother with the full interior since you can't ever see it if you don't light it. The camera flash may have, but still. You DO have to assemble the flying sub hanger and walls for the underside to fit together well, as I recall. I DID go ahead and put in the girders and interior window frames as those ARE very visible. The control room would make an interesting separate build, as an aside to the main piece. As you know, it is full of clear pieces and designed to be lit. To have it in the sub and lit, the set only costs an extra seventy dollars or more.....

I'm sure they will end up to be someone's bunk buddy! but in the mean time the tax payers are paying for everything for these two turd heads until they die of old age, which is just wrong. Here in the State Of California we have over 800 inmates waiting on death row! and costing us hundreds of millions of dollars every year. Personally I can cut that in half in 2 weeks and only cost $40.00 dollars! with in a month I can reduce that to zero.

Bizarro World, you say? Now a days, acts of violence are a sport to some, with youtube and facebook, they say, "Wow! Look at this cool video!". Our society has gone to the further pits of hell, than before. I would mention the ones that help this insanity along, but I would likely get sued.

A heads up to the duelist, Captain Kirk has got wind of your "Diplomacy" and is racing to stop it.....MISTER SCOTT! Was it you that leaked the news? Scotch and talk don't mix.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v218/lloyd2/roflao.gif

Not me laddy!! I suspect that Trelane can but a stop on the Enterprise or at lest slow it down enough that we can get a good duel and some popcorn! :)

Violence permeates your society through and through no one's mindset is spared. Criminals, like all criminals do, just take the violence further. So, yes, the good folks are still in the right to want justice and the criminals deserve to be subjected to that. That's keeping things in balance. Well, I just wanted to make that observation. I have no clue how one can convince or heal a society or make water boil at lower degrees... :( But you can't be satisfied on how things are, overall or on either side, however you prefer to look at it.

I would not agree totally that "violence permeates our society" a large part of this country's population are very peace loving people and just want to be left alone! yes Hollywood has violence on the brain, but a person can turn the channel or not go see a violent movie (personal choice! which everything in life is) and one which I choose not to go see, because I have seen enough in my 20 plus years as a law enforcement officer! but with that said, humans on the whole just want to live in peace! love there family's, raise their children and enjoy our old age...but there well always be someone out there that wants what you have or cannot settle there disagreements in a peaceful way or just wants to hurt other people just to hurt or control them and has to resort to violence! violence has always been the coward's way!!! and when a society has had enough, they hire people like me to enforce the law, if you can not behave yourself and act like a normal human being, then I will step in and end it one way or another. Humans are what they are! loving one moment and turn to violence the next, it is self control! either you learn it from your parents or not taught it and end up on the wrong side of society and your life goes down the toilet and you die young.

Criminals only understand one thing...swift punishment! if all crimes where punishable by life at hard labor or death (for certain high crimes like murder -sex crimes-) and the sentence was carried out with in a month of conviction, crime rates would drop to almost zero! GUARANTEED!! but today we have to many bleeding hearts that don't want to take on another persons fate (which is a personal choice they made to harm another by the way) so criminals will flourish and more and more people will die or be permanently damaged! I have seen enough of children's lives destroyed to last a life time and anyone that harms a child (in any way, shape or form) needs to meet his or her maker!

Sorry I have gone a little overboard but this world needs major self control!! and I need to cool down.

A resin model of the Nautilus from Disney's version of 20,000 leagues Under The Sea. I figure it is close in scale to Seaview based on the figures included in the Seaview kit. This was my first experience with resin. It has been severely damaged in spots over the years. I have not bothered with the Trek models. I know for sure I posted those. I do also have various dinosaur kits, and often take the recent dino toys and repaint them. I do realize these are not really Trek related, but we were talking about retro vehicles and shows. I also realize this in no way contributes to your recent discussions, but frankly those are just too serious and deep for me to get into right now.

Amanda, I bought the Photo Etched set and decals for the Control Room, as being my favorite sub, I wanted to go all out. As for lights, I plan to used pre-wired LED Christmas lights. I do have the large Flying Sub model to build......someday, also.

Sorei, you should try modeling. A snap together USS Enterprise, or Klingon Battle Cruiser with stickers, pretty easy, and nice to see on a shelf. Or just enjoy Amanda's builds, but not as rewarding.

That's funny!

Hey, you wanna hear a funny story?

I'll tell you a funny story.

It's really funny.

So, today is Sunday, 23 June on your Terran calendars, and a very Shatty episode is playing on tonight's episodic thriller of Columbo on the MeTV network.

And Walter Checkhov (or whateverthefugghisnameis) is playing Columbo's junior dee-tective. Too funny!

As I type this narrative, The Shat is trying to weasel out of Columbo's questions by using the same lame procedural detective patter that works on his "hit" show in whatever parallel universe he lives in.

Must be the same mystical universe that allows Columbo to fugg up, week after week, yet always managing to stay employed. Amazing! And funny!

See, I toldja it was funny!

Isn't that funny?

No? What?

Are you saying that my story wasn't funny? Are you calling me a LIAR? Am I going to have to choke somebody???

OK, then. I'm glad you agree that my anecdote is both interesting and thigh-slappingly funny!

Darth sez: Good Answer! ^

Do NOT clap, or I'll be forced to choke you (causing your bowels to involuntarily download. Now that would be funny. Hilarious, even).

There's no extra charge for the humor.

I'll be here all week! Aren't you thrilled?

Oh, you too? I also have that Dinky Eagle somewhere, together with the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC1701 version from Dinky Toys. The Enterprise even had the ability to shoot "photon torpedoes" (tiny littly plastic coins), and had a small "shuttlecraft" in its belly!

Unless I am mistaken, that is the diecast 24 inch eagle! and the Viper is a VERY nice model, looks like a "garage kit" version of the old TV series craft, but it is not correct! The back end of the model had only tubes in the back of the engines, where they had all these lights, supposed to be the jet exhaust. I don't know where all that detail came from. I saw the original models of the Viper, the Cylon raider, the 6 foot Galactica and the Cylon basestar over at David Stipes shop, when he was working on series, he also had Greg Jein's 4 foot wide saucer from "V" TV series as well. Very nice collection, just sitting around. Hehehehehehe :)

Very nice pictures, Amanda. Now I have to go and wipe away all the drool from the corners of my mouth, hehehehehe

The Viper is the re-release of the originally released (Revell, Monogram?) kit. Changes in the engines are to facilitate lighting as they are molded in clear plastic. The cockpit is also new. The original was a solid piece with decals for the windows. This release includes a full cockpit with seat and controls, and a pilot. The full decal sheet is at once more accurate and not. All of the original markings are there. They also include pilot names, the "new" colonial symbol, and a number killed decal. :) The base is also new; it base a ball and socket type of connection to the model allowing it to be positioned in many different ways.

The mission pod on the Eagle is removable. It says Copyright Carlton and Made in China....

Wooow! Great job! i used to be really big into doing the World War II Fighters, a few Ships and Tanks. Back when you could find a Hobby Shop and pay $7 to $15 depending on the scale. some even less.

Amanda
06-24-2013, 07:02 PM
I have a hobby shop about 3 miles away. But no 7 dollar kits anymore. The re-releases of the old Trek kits are averaging 40 to 50 dollars. They do include a few improved pieces though, and awesome decals. But still...yea. Like I said I want the 60's tv Batmobile. I want the die cast one. They have a really nice kit. But all that glass is a pain. As will the red trim be. Easier to get one already done. I also want Airwolf, but those old kits are expensive. A Japanese company did a newer one, with a correct inside (that once again cannot be seen when put together) and it is selling for around 50 dollars. Way too rich for my blood these days.

Ok, wow - great production quality for die-cast metal. Looks identical to the plastic kit model. Nice collection indeed.

Amanda
06-24-2013, 10:13 PM
The command module, the back end, and the mission module are die cast. The spine and landing gear modules are plastic. I am not sure why. If you remove the mission module and just have the frame (like in the crane eagles), the head and rear are metal with only a plastic spine between them. So I don't do that. :awsm:

Many years ago, I bought a studio sized Viper from "Monsters in motion", and created the whole landing bay launch area, with the launch tube (partial), and I got alot of comments about it, and I finally gave it away as a gift to David Stipes old boss, Glenn Larson, who was the exec of the original BSG.

I thought that the Eagle was the 24 inch die cast that was being sold from a company in England about 7-8 years ago, think they were called "lunar Models". Maybe..... (Hey, I'm OLD, hehehehe)

No, I WISH it were at my place, but there's no room, what with the wife and all her stuff, and the two daughters and ALL of their stuff. I really have to build an addition, just for all the stuff I want to buy, build and display! The ONE thing that almost drove a wedge between my wife and I when we first started dating, when I brought her back to "my place" after a date, and she saw all the models, and posters, with my apt looking like the one that the "40 year old virgin" had, she told me that it looked like a "little boys room"!!! We didn't date for over 2 months after that comment. I have since toned down on the models and stuff, since I love to build and detail them, but I normally just give them away! And she understands that artistic need in me, to build and create, so it's all good! :)

I have the UFO Dinky Mobile 2 as well, the color is still good (after 30 plus years) but like Pearl the missile is missing as well. My dear people of ffshrine!
Commons and nobles,

Let us try, for a change, to be civilzed. Let's have a go at it. Take a stock of yourself. Are you civilized?

If you can answer this question with YES, we are having a deal. If your answer is NO, then you need to sit down and talk to your son about it.

I have future plans to announce to those of you who are primarily living in the 24th century Star Trek universe. And bring yer friends, because there's plenty of booty to share.

I, Lord Fuckingham, have been sitting on two smashing, previously undisclosed recording sessions for the past month or so. I'm indebted to Dr. Leakey, who sold them to me. All for a nice little sum of 1.700 Pound sterling. Honour to whom honour is due.

To cut a long story short, shall I finally post those frigging STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS sessions? And what do you offer me in return? I don't give them away, just for the fun of it.

Make your offers HERE.

I'll send PM to the most attractive offer.

If you have any comments or questions, I'll be happy to fuck you.

I offer.....nothing. ABSOLUTELY nothing. For two reasons. One, I despise the score. Totally. I would be happy to see every copy slagged, and the last thing I want is MORE of it.

Second, I do not, will not ever trade. I give freely, just for the heck of it, and I despise folks like your gentle self almost as much as the score you are offering. But, thanks for playing. :awsm:

BTW, admin have stated several times that offers for trade or sell are forbidden on the open forum as this is a free share forum. Soooo....yea.
