If you have ever seen a real stalactite, they are thinner, and LONG, due to the dripping when formed. Plus, they are smooth, with the drips running toward the end or "head" of the stalactite, not with bumps and ridges like the one pictured.

I just bought this 45 single and I'll be ripping it and sharing it soon hopefully. People always say Shatner and Nimoy are both horrible singers -- this recording proves Grace Lee Whitney is on equal footing with them. It is absolutely howlingly bad! I cannot help but think of that scene in Boogie Nights in the recording studio when I listen to this track! Both hilarious and really sad. Here's a sample:

William, I have a question (or correction) about the 1st page upload which has this: "Last Outpost_Justice & The Big Goodbye.MP3"
The Big Goodbye segment (which begins about 46 min in) has a military marching band drummer and other music not suited to that episode. I suspect it's really for "Hide and Q" (which has a marching drummer).
I also thought the uncut recordings sounded a bit better even with the hiss when compared to the over-cleaned up, edited versions (just my opinion).
If not Rand, are you this guy?

It's mislabeled. It is for Hide & Q, not the Big Goodbye.

It's not a photo. :(
Yeah, it looks like a really bad frankenstein photoshop job, then glossed over with filters to look like a painting.
(the first Nimoy head is a little big, and the second one is a little small. Not sure about some of the shadows either. Nimoy's right arm in the second picture, it has an even gradient, when it should have a more uneven line as it wraps around the arm)
This time I'm sure,

Yes, those are both from STTMP, originally, before somebody destroyed them!
There is a very interesting story about Leonard, and those "images"! Apparently, Paramount was getting massive monies from selling Spock's image all over the place, in the mid-1970's, on lunch boxes, etc. with paintings and actual pictures of Kirk, Spock, and the whole crew. Well, Leonard was over in Europe, doing something, and he saw a giant billboard with three pictures of Spock, advertising a German beer. The first panel has a picture of Spock (Painting) with his ears drooping, the second panel has a beer bottle placed in front of Spock, his ears are not drooping, but not fully erect either. The third panel has the beer empty and Spock's ears are straight up! Leonard came home, contacted his attorney, and they sued the studio for the likeness of Leonard, without his permission. When STTMP came about, the lawsuit was still in full effect, and the studio was forced to settle the suit, or look for another actor to be Spock! Because of "Star Wars" success, Paramount was pushed to get STTMP into production, so they settled with Leonard for 5.2 million dollars, on top of the money he was given to play the role! Shatner was furious that Leonard was getting so much MORE than him! I think that Shatner should have also sued the studio for image likeness use, he could have gotten a settlement at once! Milk that sucker for all it was worth! You can Google "Spock Beer advertisment" to see the image. Speaking of using a different actor for Spock, can you believe that the studio was actually considering using Richard Burton to be Kirk for STTMP?? Amazing!
William
Shatner made out fine. His original contract gave him 5% of all Trek when he signed on in the 60's. (Of course he lost half of that in the divorce, but still.) None of the actors knew about this until, much, much later.

Yes, sorry, but I had been VERY busy, and with the holiday season, Whew! I just finished a production, and will be starting another in a couple of weeks, so, understandably, my time is not my own. I did find a small group of sounds, and will be adding them ASAP. I wanted to hold off to get them altogether, but I will have to just post what I have, and list the rest at a later date. The new production will keep me busy for about 5 or 6 weeks, so we shall see!

WOW! I've always loved the background music for Star Trek: the next generation and DS9 and Voyager...but, you know, I never made the connection that EVERY episode had its own music specially composed for that episode! That's nothing short of amazing! And the music was so beautiful! Goldsmith, McCarthy, McNealy and the others did amazing work. Thanks so much for sharing these files ^_^
Umm...the only thing that I have that I could share is "Picard's Flute Solo" from the episode "the Inner Light". It's actually really beautiful. But, I'm afraid that anything else I might have has already been posted.
Ah...there is one thing, though. I've been searching for this for years and have never been able to find it, but seeing as how I've seen many rare soundtracks posted here in this section, I might as well ask...
Does anyone have the score from episode #81: "Reunion"? It's the 7th episode of the 4th season (here's a link to the plot synopsis:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reunion_(Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation) ). It's the episode where Worf is reunited with K'Ehleyr and realizes he has a son, Alexander. There was a melody that played at the very end of the episode that was so beautiful and moving that even though I've never been able to find the soundtrack, I can still remember the tune in my head. Even so, I'd just love to have that track if anyone has it or knows where I can get it. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much and thanks again for sharing!

That particular episode is included in the Ron Jones box set. As it is FSM, and not allowed to be shared here, you will need a pm to acquire it...
William and I had set up some links for such an occasion, but mine have all been reported and wiped out, and I am told that William's links are dead as well. I plan on repacking this, but as it is a 14 cd set, it will take some time. Pm me, so I know where I will be sending it to. This is a bit of a pain, so I am thinking this may be my last time packing and upping this set. It is a beautiful set, but it has proven to be such a pain in the ass...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reunion_(Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation) ).
Welcome to the board, Blackmambafox, and not to worry, Picards Flute solo is actually on one of the official CD releases. And it has been posted here somewhere! I also believe that if you look around, there is a release with a cover and all the bells and whistles for Reunion!
Izbot, the group was called "Stardrive", and I just found the recordings, which I thought were lost, along with a bunch of other TREK stuff, but I did find them. There are only 8 tracks, but I will be posting them here in the next few days! All good things come to he (or she) who waits!!!

Darn...then I guess I don't have anything new to share ^^; I wish I did, but that was the only thing that I thought might be of interest. Oh, and thanks so much for the welcome! I'm loving this place and seeing so many things. Soundtracks are the best and I love listening to them...and Star Trek has some of the best BGM's!
As for the release with "Reunion" I've searched through this entire topic, but I didn't see it. I may have missed it, though. I'll have to search again, thanks!

You won't find it, that set is from a label that may not be posted here. I am almost done repacking. You should have it by the end of today.
My pc runs on a slower IE connection now, so it looks like about an hour for MU to upload each set.

I wouldn't say I was the most prolific at all. Members such as Sorei, and in days past Madkalnod, among others post a lot too. Porko Rosso and konio are prolific too, and post mostly new stuff. I may be less active, as I have culled over 200 albums from my collection now, to make room for stuff. Sorei especially has a vast collection, and is one of the go to members for things Trek....

Ah! I see now! Stardrive is featured prominently in the last track ("The Star Trek Dream") of Inside Star Trek and apparently Columbia's session orchestra recorded the Star Trek Theme for the album. That Theme recording was even released as a 7" single attributed to The Inside Star Trek Orchestra:
Anyway, here's my vinyl rip of Inside Star Trek. Please note the differences between the original vinyl release and the version included with the ST:TMP 2-disc box set. That set added new intro and outro by Nichelle Nichols and rearranged the track order.

Version 3.0 indeed! This third time around I went through all the other episodes in the season in an attempt to clean up effects or dialogue laden cues. While I wasn't able to remove all the inherent problems with a DVD rip, there were some nice improvements to Season 1. I found some extended cues that were dialed out of the original episode, plus some alternate takes on some of the first season cues. Season 2 remains largely unchanged (since I had already troweled all the season 2 eps for version 2.0). Season 3 has some modest improvements, along with some extended cues, plus additional re-recorded cues from seasons 1 and 2.
I also took on board Williamtaylor1969's two studio recording snippets from Who Mourns for Adonais? and Elaan of Troyius, and added them as bonus tracks. The first cue for Elaan was dialed out early, so I was able to restore that cue to its full length (although there is a noticable drop in quality- but I decided it was better than nothing). Even with the lower quality of the studio recordings, you can hear some great stuff in there that was sadly covered up in my ripped cues by sound effects (in particular "Clast of the Titans" for Who Mourns for Adonais?).
And HR Pufnstuf - yes I am. Glad to see some demonoid folks over here too. :)

Very nice! I hope one of the 'modest improvements' to Season Three is, of course, the Space Hippie songs from Way To Eden! I've mentioned this before on the older Trek thread but just wanna mention it again! I rewatched the Remastered episode last week with an intent of listening for potential recording problems. On the whole they sound pretty good. There was the song where we switch to the bridge at one point and it is given an intercom effect but overall the songs were pretty complete.

Verisimilitude, great news about "The Way to Eden" songs. What about "Charlie's Our New Darling," sung by Uhura in "Charlie X"? Also, hope you have added the Brahm's paraphrase from "Requiem for Methuselah," as played by Spock. Last question: for the tracks you ripped from the DVDs, did you create the track names or are these the official titles? Thanks again!

Charlie's song??? D'oh! I've got Uhura's Antares one in "The Conscience of the King", but not that one. *sigh* Version 4.0 ;)
The Requiem is there on Season 3.
By and large, the track titles are mine. Jeff Bond's book is fantastic, but only provides titles for a few stories. Plus, I tried to link them up, but it was a very difficult, time consuming task. I gave up and just tried to think of witty titles after a while. :)

Version 3.0? When did version 2.0 happen? Is version 1.0 that from Demonoid? That's the only version I have (except for 3.0 of season 1, which I am now downloading.)
Version 1.0 was ripped in 2005, but I encoded @ a ridiculous 128kbps. Those went up on alt.binaries.sounds.soundtracks. Also, I only ripped from the original score episodes, not tracked ones as well - so I had more dialogue echo and sound effects than now.
By 2007 I realized I could improve on the sound quality. I started Version 2.0 from scratch and re-ripped the entire set of soundtracks and encoded @ 320kbps. This was the version that made it to Demonoid.
By 2009 I realized that I should trowel through all of the tracked episodes to try and improve the set one more time. Version 3.0 has more cleaned up tracks (i.e. less sound effects and dialogue echo), plus some extended cues and alternate cues as well as seasonal re-records (and, of course, the hippie songs from "The Way to Eden").
Moral of the story - I should have thought everything through more thoroughly back in 2005. :p

Sorry about the confusion olafolaf, it is the music that was ripped. Sfx do factor in to many of the tracks, but it is ambient noise really. There are a small number of cues that have voice echoes (couldn't be helped - it was present in all 5 channels). These are mainly concentrated in a couple stories - mostly the Duning scores as fate would have it.
Hope this helps.

Star Trek - Alan Dean Foster (2009 Movie Adaptation)
Read by Zachary Quinto
Unabridged
Size: 551 MB (7 CDs)
160 kbps
Simon & Schuster releases the Zachary Quinto audiobook of the "STAR TREK" movie novel adaptation written by Alan Dean Foster, based on Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman's screenplay. Zachary narrates the entire 8.5 hour book and voices all of the characters, which includes parts of the story that are not in the movie.
John Tenuto reviewed Zachary's narration on trekmovie.com - here is an excerpt of that REVIEW:
"The Narration by Zachary Quinto
I cannot offer enough accolades to Zachary Quinto's narration. He is simply the best audio book narrator in the history of Star Trek, and that is saying quite a great deal considering the formidable and venerable talents of George Takei and James Doohan. Yet, Quinto shows all his acting abilities in the audio adaptation and he has a thoughtful style as narrator. He performs Scotty and Chekov flawlessly (watch out Anton Yelchin!). He also has a subtly in his voice while performing Kirk that is very good and displays the assuredness of the character without being a parody. One of the fun things about listening to audio books is to hear how various narrators act out characters of the opposite sex (think William Shatner in "Turnabout Intruder"). Quinto does very good at hinting at the femininity of characters without lisping to exaggerations or stereotypical imitations. In the film, Eric Bana uses several voices as he performs Nero (compare his voices when welcoming back Spock with talking to Pike). Quinto does a very good job of staying consistent and sounding like Bana. Quinto is a true master of various accents.
As the generic narrator, Quinto also displays excellent qualities. His tonation and energy help maintain interest during the 8.5 hours of the audio book. His abilities as narrator and character actor are especially seen in the scenes on the USS Kelvin. With only his voice (no sound effects or music accompany his reading of the text), Quinto is able to convey all the sadness and tragedy of those moments. In fact, he is so good that as a father and fan, I am not embarrassed to say there were tears in my eyes while listening to Quinto's heartbreaking reading of the scenes between Winona and George Kirk. That he is able to engender this kind of emotion in an audio book speaks volumes about Quinto's talent."
“"Are you willing to settle for an ordinary life? Or do you think you were meant for something better? Something special?"
One grew up in the cornfields of Iowa, fighting for his independence, for a way out of a life that promised only indifference, aimlessness and obscurity.
"You will forever be a child of two worlds, capable of choosing your own destiny. The only question you face is, which path will you chose?"
The other grew up on the jagged cliffs of the harsh Vulcan desert, fighting for acceptance, for a way to reconcile the logic he was taught with the emotions he felt.
In the far reaches of the galaxy, a machine of war bursts into existence in a place and time it was never meant to be. On a mission of retribution for the destruction of his planet, its half-mad captain seeks the death of every intelligent being, and the annihilation of every civilized world.
Kirk and Spock, two completely different and unyielding personalities must find a way to lead the only crew, aboard the only ship, that can stop him.
"The wait is over."”

Okay, since you decided to put up Strauss II, it got the old memories flowing, and the juices flowing, and I dug out all my old sheet music and FOUND IT!!! I played it, and transposed it to harpischord, same tempo and same key. It really sounds MUCH better on my baby grand, but since the original episode had it on harpischord, here it is, in MP3 format:
Hotfile.com: One click file hosting: Roses from the south.mp3 (
http://hotfile.com/dl/94241265/8c7baa7/Roses_from_the_south.mp3.html)
I played this piece in Vienna in the late 60's, and it was a hit! They really love anything to do with waltz's over there!
Hi, Sorei!! :)

Well, the contributing artist would have to be Strauss II, the composer! :)

Here is an (link removed) of the cover collection to replace the one that I put up earlier. It includes Way to Eden, Miri, Space Seed, and Whom Gods Destroy. I also did one for A Piece of the Action, which reminds me a comment I wanted to make before.
I remember the original version of this project when it had its own website, as well as when it was reposted on Frankly Yes. As amazing a piece of work as this is, and it is truly amazing, I have questions about 'complete.' Aside from all the separate tracks that never got their own entries, (like Patterns of Force and the Omega Glory,) at least one episode got missed completely; A Piece of the Action. Now a brief clip of it is floating about, the trailer for the episode that was tagged onto the end of the music for another episode. I haven't seen the episode in forever, so I wonder if there is anything else. (Unless of course, it was originally written for Mudd's Women, and I'm just imagining things. But I don't remember it there either.)
So, the little bits that have fallen through the cracks of your impressive cataloging make me paranoid as to what else might have been missed.
Also, should I be making a cover for The Squire of Gothos? If yes, are there any others I've missed?
Thanks again,
JonC
PS: Could somebody please check to see if my music credits are correct, especially for the new covers? Thanks.

Re: Website/Frankly Yes/Complete - Can't speak to these, as they weren't my thing. Don't know if this is someone else's rip, or someone posting the ones I did. And I agree - it's pretty hard to asign "complete" to something like this. There's always the problem of the seasonal "rerecords" for one thing. There were plenty of little 5-20 second snippets of rerecorded cues that I simply didn't include because of the fragmented nature of them. So, I don't know that we'll ever reach "complete" - approach, certainly, but not reach.
Re: A Piece of the Action - I ripped each episode from each season, I think A Piece of the Action was all tracked. I could be wrong on this, but I don't recall any new cues (lots of tracked sources from Tribbles, Catspaw, etc. as I seem to recall).
Re: Cover Art Feedback - They look fantastic. One or two small bits of feedback. Apparently it's George Duning (not "Dunning"). I've made that mistake many times (and been corrected many more). Also, the small "mini" scores such as Space Seed, Miri, Patterns of Fore, Whom Gods Destroy, A Private Little War, Obsession, Gamesters of Triskellian, The Omega Glory, and Way to Eden - I can't confirm for certain that these "mini" scores do indeed have their respective composers that they were linked to in my project. For instance, I put the Miri and Space Seed cues on with Conscience of the King because, to my untrained ear, they most sounded like Mullendore. I have no independent proof of that, just a gut instinct. They could be Steiner, Kaplan, or even some other freelance composer brought in to make a couple quick cues. Perhaps others on the board can shed some light on these "mini" scores.
Re: Cracks - Undboubtably there must be some. I've ripped every single episode, but I'm sure I haven't nailed down every single piece (the most obvious ones being Uhura's songs from Charlie X, the single cue from Squire of Gothos - though you could make the case that it is stock music there).
My personal take on all of these small details is just that - they're small details. I wouldn't sweat it too much, Jon C. I'm not sure we'll ever be able to sort it all out completely. That might just be lazy thinking on my part, but 98% complete works pretty good for me. ;)
Veri!
I only say that because I had started the download from the long deleted website, and finished it when it was reposted on Frankly Yes. The accompanying notes, in particular the charts for what was tracked when are almost identical. I assume you are either the person who started this way back when or you are working from their notes.
As for A Piece of the Action, the cue I'm thinking of is on Star Trek Vol. III (GNP Crescendo,) Track 9 "Trailer," in between Shore Leave and Naked Time. Looking closer, my notes refer to it as Alexander Courage, but who knows who actually did it...
I'll correct George Duning's name. I think I made that mistake with the meta data once, caught it there, but not here. I think I'm confusing him with Yellow Submarine director George Dunning.
As for the other composers, I seem to remember that there's a Trek music website that is pretty thorough about credits, but I don't know if they cover EVERYTHING.
Uhura's song is a gap, Squire of Gothos is more problematic, some people consider complete to be even library tracks (Most of The Prisoner is Library tracks, as well as Ren and Stimpy and SpongeBob.) I'm more concerned with what other covers people are likely to need.

If it's the same tracklist PDF that you included in your covers upload, then - yes - that was mine. It must have been uploaded to another site by someone else.
GNP Volume III, Track 9 - That's the trailer music from "Mudd's Women". The "sexy lady" theme you hear in there is identical to the one used in "Mudd's Women". It's always perplexed me, because it's on an Alexander Courage release, yet it uses the "sexy lady" theme that Steiner uses in "Mudd's Women". That theme was tracked in to "A Piece of the Action" too (in fact it would be a rerecord from the previous season).
Two great website resources I've used in this project are...
Star Trek Soundtracks (Star Trek Soundtracks (
http://www.startreksoundtracks.com))
and
Memory Alpha (Star Trek Wiki - Memory Alpha (
http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Portal:Main))
Of course, there's Jeff Bond's excellent book "The Music of Star Trek" - an invaluable resource too. Also, Fred Steiner wrote a bit about his work (and other composers for the series) in a chapter for a book on the history of Motion Pictures. Can't remember the name of the book, bit I know I have a photocopy of the chapter he wrote somewhere.

That piece of music is from the "Trelane" episode (sorry, I don't know the title) where Kirk and company met an form of the "Q", in youth form. You really need to read the novel "Q vs Q", where there was a civil war in the "Q", and the "John DeLancie" "Q". was fighting Trelane, who wanted to be the ONLY "Q" It was a GREAT story, should have been made into a two-part episode, but Berman had stated that they would never even consider a storyline from a book, or fan production at all! Then they turned around, and made the NX-01, directly inspired by a fan design, the "Akira"!!! Go figure!

(For those of you just who've just been waiting for this single volume from Verisimilitude) :)
Ever since I saw this post, I have been digging around in my recordings, because I know that I HAD the original tracks from this, NOT the soundtrack, but the recordings that Charles Napier and Deborah Downey recorded for this episode. I had them on DAT, because these tracks, along with a couple recorded by Nichele were on the back end of some of the sound effects reel to reels. But I cannot seem to find any of them! Damn, I hate getting old!!!!
Anyway, I wanted to share a couple of pieces of trivia regarding this episode:
According to James Doohan, this was the only episode of the series that he did not like. Majel hated this episode second only to "Spock's Brain", but the fans consistantly voted "Let that be your last battlefield" (also known as the "black and white" episode) as the worst.
Charles Napier and Deborah Downey composed several of their own songs for the episode, working with Arthur Heinemann, the episode writer. The music was recycled a year later for the movie The Hanging of Jake Ellis, which Napier and Downey starred in and sang
Executive Vice President Douglas S. Cramer came up with the insult term of "Herbert." this may have been a reference to his predecessor, Herbert F. Solow.
Twice in the episode, Kirk's hairline part flips to his left, due to recycling footage. In both instances his ship's insignia can also be seen flipped. The first time is when Kirk emerges from Sickbay, the second time on Eden as he reacts to Sevrin running away.
When Chapel collapses in Sickbay due to the sonic attack, the lights flicker although no other shots show this. The reason is that the footage is recycled from "Spock's Brain."
Chekov's full name, Pavel Andreievich Chekov, is given here for the first time.
In a 2009 interview with the "A.V. Club", Charles Napier recalled auditioning for the part of Adam, which was his first guest starring role. He won the part by jumping onto a table and singing "The house of the rising sun" in front of others trying for the part
Interesting to say the least!

Does somebody have a error-less, lossless version of Star Trek: First Contact?
All the releases I found (including the otherwise gorgeous 1CD expanded version) include rips from early pressings. To check if you have one of these early faulty pressings, go to 5:30 in the track "First Contact" or listen to "Temporal Wake". There are 2 digital pops in "First Contact" and 3 in "Temporal Wake" ...

Well, Gang. Babydoll just sent me a PM, and advised that according to the RULES of the site, EVERY link must have it's own thread, so I guess I need to move all the download links to their own seperate threads, and therefore we will have 27 "Official" star trek threads, one for every link. What do you think?

Amanda

I would not worry about it, Will. That is why I sent a **private** message, so we did not have a thing on the thread. But since we are, that has been a rule for a while. You can still have the mega thread. Just also seperate threads for each link posted. In theory. I have not seen much about it lately, and unless Jess or someone says otherwise, I would not stress it....
And, I only mentioned it because you wanted to know why i had links for knight Rider in two places....you asked, I responded.
I only care, cause I get hate mail, you know. Anytime I mention Varese, or whatever. I don't need more over this, as I did not have any intention of spouting rules, but just answered a question in private...:(
Actually, each album is suppose to have a separate thread, named after the album being uploaded. I ran into this with my Galactica thread (and will again with the special project I'm working on.) You don't have to take this thread apart. At most, you have to repost each of the albums in its own thread. (You can copy the actual links, artwork and even the descriptions.) In practical terms, you only need to post any NEW albums, (that is to say, any albums you haven't posted here yet,) or any reups of stuff already here.
For example:
This is the Galactica thread (
Thread 74663)
This is one for the 4 disc Stu Phillips Anthology (
Thread 80429) which is also on the Galactica Thread
Note that The Saga of Battlestar Galactica album that can be found on the Galactica thread does not have its own thread. This is because it was posted before the new rules were put into place, and unlike the Stu Phillips Anthology, has never had to be reposted.
In conclusion, unless a mod tells you otherwise, don't worry about the current stuff, only future posts.
Hope this makes things clearer,
JonC
Even Porko Rosso, who posts tons of stuff and is so focused on his own thread he doesn't even know other threads exist, eventually changed over to the new rules and has had no problems doing so.

people who do this (send you hate mails) are not aware of the trouble this part of the board can get into with ignoring posted VS items. I watched frankly go down, I would hate to see another site go down.
And these people are not aware of the fact that it is not you who causes (potential) trouble, you want to prevent it.
Like the sender of bad news sometimes isn't liked. Still, short sighted.

Babydoll , I'd say partly is due when you often says that certain score is from VS or explain why that cannot be posted and ultimately ask to remove the link, that is despite being with the best of intentions for the Shrine, it is always tiresome to read I state, but most of all enrage those ones that send you the hate mail. I think that the less we talk about issues related to VS the better, because there's always a report post button for these cases, where the mods take notice and deal with the problem.
Having said that, and this is what concerns me most currently, is when someone says in public, that is/will sending a VS score in private. I think that from the point of view of the labels that is no different than actually posting openly in public, and thus, with the possibility of causing future problems both on site level or at individual level for those that declare they will send the links privately. Maybe i'm a little paranoid about this, but i'd be more confortable if members would respond in private on requests of VS albums and share in private, instead of saying that will do the same in public threads.
Amanda

You are not paranoid. That is a very real concern. I mostly mention the forbidden posts in the hopes that a poster will take care of their own links. Seems faster, and more efficient. But I do take your point.

Hey-- back in 1988 when Star Trek: The Next Generation was going to premier, there was a segment talking about it on "Evening Magazine." My father was nice enough to record it -- a simple tape recorder in front of the television set. I still have the recording, but not the actual episode. I've written to Group W (I think) but received no response.
Has anyone here anything like that?
Forceboat
01-16-2011, 02:22 PM
I found something similar to that, Momaru, but to me it's audio from tv like what you are talking about - I found some audio clips from where someone recorded audio back in 1967 when "Amok Time" premiered on NBC. To me, that's just not worth including here. What is rare, though? And I wish they were available online somewhere, two items:
1. Star Trek Tapes, 1978, produced by Jack M. Sell - It's available for sale online in either the rare original LP or now on CD
2. Star Trek Deep Space Nine "Emissary" Radio Promos - I have seen a posting where some guy who used to work at CBS has a reel-to-reel tape with 5 different radio promos for the pilot for sale that Paramount prepared
Oh, how I wish these two things were for download. Maybe one day.

Well, guys, one man's trash is another's treasure! If you post it here, perhaps others will follow with their hard to find recordings, and who knows what we will find?
I my way of thinking, it's far better to have it, and not need it, than to need it, and not have it! Please post whatever you like here, it will go out into the universe, and be shared by everyone!

I've revised the Trek covers again...
Here is the new set of covers (
http://www.sendspace.com/file/jt10o4),
which remove A Piece of the Action, add Squire of Gothos, correct George Duning's name, and add an alternate Way to Eden cover that credits Charles Napier and Deborah Downey, who apparently wrote as well as performed Adam and the Space Hippies' songs.
Please let me know if I've missed anything,
JonC
Hello JonC!
Thanks for updating your fantastic set of Trek Covers, much appreciated!
If I may be so bold, I'm adding a few comments/corrections:
1. Thanks for the correction of George Duning's name - Verisimilitude has haunted me for years with his mis-spelling of GD's name over at demonoid (he finally got it right a few weeks ago, though, after a little bit of pushing by me! In case you read this, hello Veri, my friend! :-)
2. There is still one episode title left for correction, JonC: "Is There No Truth in Beauty?" should be "Is There In Truth No Beauty?" (The episode title is from a poem by the 17th century English poet and clergyman George Herbert, from his poem "Jordan (I)", line 2: "Who says that fictions only and false hair/ Become a verse? Is there in truth no beauty?")
3. Including "Miri", "Space Seed", "Obsession", "A Private Little War" makes sense for the time being, if you take into account Verisimilitude's decision to include a few cues from those episodes (by adding them as "Bonus Tracks" to other episode scores produced in the same time period). But to tell the truth, those 4 episodes have been listed by several sources as having only tracked music, meaning no additional music was composed (to name two sources: Jeff Bond's "Music of Star Trek" and even a publication by Fred Steiner, of which I have a copy somewhere). That doesn't necessarily mean those tracks have been used in earlier Star Trek episodes (I for one couldn't identify them myself as tracked music from other episodes, at least for now). That does leave 2 possibilities:
- They may be cues composed by some Star Trek composer (Steiner/Mullendore comes to mind, according to Verisimilitude, which I strongly would agree with!) which were intended for some earlier episode, but didn't get it into the final cut. (In the case of Mullendore, that episode would be his only contribution, "The Conscience of the King").
- They may be stock cues, without a specific episode in mind - just some library with generic trek music, for later use. That would only be the case for Steiner, though, since Mullendore certainly was brought in just to score "The Conscience of the King", and adding some cues not intended for that episode would make no sense for him. (But I may be wrong here.)
3. Including "The Squire of Gothos" and "The Way to Eden" makes sense, also, for its stock music/songs. That leaves only "Requiem for Methuselah", which has the "Brahms waltz paraphrase" - there is a rip of this cue available by now, which Verisimilitude added as Bonus track to his score of "Plato's Stepchildren".
4. Finally, why did you include "Whom Gods Destroy?" - officially it has only tracked music, and Verisimilitude didn't include any bonus tracks for them (or did I miss something here?).
Best regards,
Soundtrekker
Thank you for your notes.
I keep getting that title wrong, then getting it right and changing it to something wrong.
I suppose I should rerender all the titles in all caps, so they would better match the actual titles.
At the moment, I'm keeping the composer titles I have. They're probably wrong, and I'd love to fix them, but these are the composer names assigned to the tracks in the metadata...
When this set came out is had music from episodes that weren't in the previous set (like "Way to Eden.") Somehow, when I was going down the list to what was new (way too quickly,) I somehow got Requiem, with Whom Gods. I shall correct this at my soonest opportunity.
Let me know if anything else comes to mind,
JonC

Thanks alot, Izbot, for this rarity! Never heard of it. I will listen to it immediately, 'cause I'm a big fan of Gerald Fried (not only his trek music!).
BTW, is this also a iTunes exclusive? What's the release date/year of production of this arrangements? As far as I know, Gerald Fried is still alive - he's 82 - but his last entry in imdb.com was for the TV Movie "Roots: The Gift" (1988), so in the last 22 years he may have done some projects of his own, including this arrangement of some of his best Star Trek entries.

This is probably asking way too much of you but there was another set of covers made for "version 2.0" which included text "The Complete Scores Project" in the title to further clarify that these were part of a series. Example:

Here's a link to a youtube video featuring Ron Jones' Duck Tale Suite.
There are small sections that sound like the Betazed Gardens (the TNG episode where Lwaxana & Co are abducted by a Ferengi)
and some few later chords sound a bit like ST TNG battle bits. Also, funny enough, some electric guitar later would have
done well in the Enterprise (Archer) series, at least "viewed" from an end titles perspective.
All instances of similarities are very short. But then Ron Jones is always worth listening :)

Okay, this is a paltry offering, but here's a small file. It's an almost 30 second news piece on Star Trek: The Motion Picture. This was on the CBC radio network a day after the movie came out. Anyway, for anyone interested, here it is:

I have found several links online about a rare promotional LP that has open-ended interview pieces from the cast of the movie, but unfortunately it's only for sale, not for download, just like the Star Trek Tapes album. I may pick both of these up sometime.
Here's a pic of the promotional album:

Hey guys
Great thread. Sorry this might be the wrong forum but I am looking for STAR TREK game soundtracks, specifically Inon Zur's scores to STARFLEET COMMAND II: EMPIRES AT WAR and ORION PIRATES from the COMMAND EDITION bonus disc, with proper track names. My OP gamerip is ok but the tracknames are all abbreviations :-(
Okay, let's try this again.
Star Trek Covers (Link Expired)
What's new? Requiem for Methuselah added (credited to Ivan Ditmars,) Whom Gods Destroy removed, Who Mourns for Adonais? spelled correctly, titles in all caps and added complete score project as a subtitle. Version numbers, I think, are not a good idea, since these covers can not only be used for previous versions, they can be used for future ones as well. (And there will be future ones. Somebody's going to invent a filter that removes sfx and dialogue, or source music is going to turn up in somebody's attic, and we're going to do this over again.)
Barring any glaring errors on my part, the only thing left to change is composer names for episodes like "Miri," if different composers are found.
Feel free to let me know if I have to make anymore adjustments,

Nice work. The Brahms paraphrase in "Requiem for Methuselah" should be credited to Ivan Ditmars.

Did Ivan Dirtmars perform it or compose it? As much as I could, I assigned it to whoever actually composed it. While the artist responsible for actually performing it is relevant for the metadata, I'm keeping it off the covers to keep it cleaner. (This includes albums which are 90% stock music and 10% original cues. Only the original stuff counts. With the classical bits, well, it's new to Trek...

(Of course, if he did compose it, I'll fix it immediately.)

I remember actually obtain a libery hardback binding of this book, having searched for it for years.
Did Leonard redo this audiobook as it would be great to hear him speak his own words.
Also is there any chance of a complete version of the audio book "I am Spock" that came out approx 15 years ago.

Ivan Ditmars composed it. See Ivan Ditmars - Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki (

*sigh* Well, I did find a place to download it, 1shikawa. The bad news? It's split into FIVE files. If you don't mind downloading five parts, here it is:
Leonard Nimoy: I AM SPOCK audiobook
Genre: Audiobook | MP3 |
Size : ~110 Mb | 1995 | Language: English
Part One (
http://rapidshare.com/files/77003063/I_Am_Spock_by_Leonard_Nimoy.part1.rar)
Part Two (

Part Four (

Part Five (

I'll check around about an audio book version of I Am Not Spock read by Nimoy, I hadn't heard about that. EDIT: Negative, I looked around and the only one is the version read by Carl Jansen that izbot posted. I do know Nimoy read excerpts from it and it was recorded on the Star Trek Tapes album I mentioned a little while back. Unfortunately, there's no place to download that; it's for sale online, but not for download. Please, if anyone has that, please come forward and upload it if you do have it. Odd, though, that Nimoy DID read his own I AM Spock for that audio book.
Okay, Ivan Ditmars corrected.
Let me know if there is anything else that needs to be fixed,

I'm looking at the CD version of the Star Trek Tapes that's available for sale online. $20. Hmm. I think I've already spent the cash I have alotted to Star Trek music for the month (which means I'll have several more rare vinyl rips appearing here in the next week or so). Next month however....Hmmmm. Here's the details from Star Trek Tapes (

I do love vintage material!! Of course if anyone else wants to beat me to the punch and get it before me -- by all means -- do so!
UPDATE: Ah screw it, I just bought it!

After your changing all the titles to caps, you omitted an "a" in one title:
"Who Mourns for Adonis?" should correctly be "Who Mourns for Adonais?"
This name had bugged me since the first time I was aware of the original epsiode title (I'm German, and here the episode was named "Wer trauert um Apoll?" - "Who Mourns for Apollo?"). Now I found out what's the origin of this name (using wikipedia.org):
Of course, Adonis is the well-known Greek God of fertility, but the name Adonais has a slightly different origin. According to wikipedia:
"The title of the episode is taken from a line from Percy Bysshe Shelley's 1821 poem Adonais, Stanza 47, line 415.
...
The title of the poem is likely a merging of the Greek "Adonis", the god of fertility, and the Hebrew "Adonai" (meaning "Lord")."
One other thing: Being a piano player myself, I observed the following: in the episode "Requiem for Methuselah", the music sheet Spock holds in his hand (which was used for your cover) does NOT, as a matter of fact, show the Brahms paraphrase by Ivan Ditmars as heard in the episode. Maybe it shows a faksimile of another Brahms waltz (which, of course, must have been known in 1969)? You can see the name of Brahms on top of the sheet, after all... It would have been nice if Ditmars would have produced a "fake faksimilie" of his own Brahms paraphrase, but maybe that wasn't allowed for legal reasons. As I'm not very good at recognizing Brahms known waltzes, maybe someone here can shed any light on this mystery and is able to identify the waltz as shown in Spock's hand? (That's a classic nitpick, which I'm surely not the first one to recognize!)
Thanks again for your efforts!
Best regards,

Hi Izbot,
I've read what is coming at this CD, is it a CDR?
Also found a VCR tape with Shatner and Nimoy on stage (think at a convention). They mention putting there hands in concrete @ a walk of fame before this convention. Anyway .....................
I can make a audio rip from it (As DJ I have more with sound than video) if there is a interest for this.
Also wanna thank everybody for the great uploads in this thread and the wonderful story's from William!!
Saludos from Ibiza,
Roel
