There is another neat version of the theme: played on Bajoran flute in the episode "Sanctuary". My absolute favorite is the full on orchestral version by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra though

I was going to make a thread for this, but there are enough DS9 / Trek threads as it is right now and this is pretty minor so it doesn't really warrant its own thread.
I've assembled a "Deep Space Nine" Theme archive, which takes (almost) every version of the DS9 theme, all of them official and not third-party re-recordings (which are all terrible and aren't worth listening to so they aren't included) and places them here for listening. Some of them are DVD sourced, some of them from the various official album recordings, some are television broadcast-sourced.
18 tracks, and here are the details for each:
1. Seasons 1-3 Main Title (no sound effects, album)
2. Seasons 1-3 'Majestic' commercial bumper (TV sourced)
3. Seasons 1-3 End Title (short version, album)
4. Seasons 1-3 'Action' commercial bumper (TV sourced)
5. Seasons 1-3 Main Title (with sound effects, album)
6. Seasons 1-3 'Noble' commercial bumper (TV sourced)
7. Seasons 1-3 End Title (long version, DVD sourced)
8. Seasons 1-3 Main Title (custom edit: the "Single version" edited down to resemble the TV version)
9. Seasons 4-7 Main Title (no sound effects, album)
10. Seasons 4-7 'Action' commercial bumper (TV sourced)
11. Seasons 4-7 Main Title (from the season 4 premiere "The Way Of The Warrior". This is ONLY version of the DS9 main title that remains unreleased on any album. DVD sourced)
12. Seasons 4-7 'Noble' commercial bumper (TV sourced)
13. Seasons 4-7 End Title (album)
14. Seasons 4-7 Main Title (alternate with synth drums, album)
15. Seasons 4-7 'Majestic' commercial bumper (TV sourced)
16. Seasons 4-7 End Title (alternate with synth drums, album)
17. Theme from "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" Single Version (album)
18. DS9 - After 3am at Quark's solo piano (album)
With the exceptions being the TV and DVD sourced tracks, it's in lossless.
Apple Lossless:
http://www.packupload.com/2F4YA4S6K03
The reason I said "almost" every version of the theme, is because I did not include two of the end credit variants: A super-short one for season 1, and a short one for seasons 4-7.
Second link makes use of some of these different versions of the title theme.
These are mp4 video files of the opening credit sequence, just to give listeners an idea of what these variants would have sounded like if they were actually used on the show.
Includes the following:
DS9 commercial bumpers (all six as one video, which I uploaded to YouTube a month or so ago). Only 27 seconds.
Season 1 main title (no effects)
Season 1 main title (single version edit)
Season 7 main title (alternate synth drum mix)
Season 7 main title (no effects)
Season 7 main title (Way Of The Warrior mix)
The videos are cropped to a faux-widescreen format.

I'm also considering doing some sequences of video using various cues similar to those "Batman Begins" / "The Dark Knight" videos I had put up a while back.
very nice

OK Ladies and Gentlemen, I have made a cover for the retail release of Voyagers "Caretaker" (as suggested/requested by Amanda) in the style of my other Trek covers. I'm going to put together another cover for the Voyager tracks that were on the 30th Anniversary CD's as well. Amanda has uploaded those tracks on another thread.
I must say that I'm quite pleased with the front cover of this CD (which is unlike me) Hope you all like it as well.

PCM, The cover is so...logical, and way cool! Thanks! Now to decide, replace the original or not....NOT ANOTHER DECISION....the last one cost Scotty a week worth of repairs.
Also, you being quite pleased with the front cover of this CD and not being like you to like it, really scares me. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO YOU!

Repairs are easy laddy, I just multiply my repair estament's by a factor of 2......reading klingon, now thats difficult!
there are several things that come to mind....1: We are in a alternate reality or 2: I would say Pearl is getting the confidence he richly deserves! I'll say number 2 (and not that number 2)

Nice work!
Are you, or is as anyone else interested/capable, of doing individual cover art for each episode represented on the new DS9 box set - y'know, for use on iTunes and the like ? I seem to remember someone did it for the Next Gen stuff that come out...
Just wondering!

Thanks AZSneed. Well to help you in your decision, I'm working on a cover for the Voyager music from the 30th anniversary double CD release, so there will be two Voyager covers.
With regards to "WHAT IS HAPPENING TO YOU!" every now and then I do produce a cover I'm happy with.....once in a while....quite rarely though :)

I did produce covers for the bootleg TNG and Enterprise tracks. However, I'm not planning on doing anything on breaking down the DS9 sets as I would not break the cd down myself.

Actually, normal service has been resumed. I've found a niggling problem with the front cover. The Star Trek Voyager title on the front needs to come down by about 4mm or in imperial 5⁄32in. :(

PCM, the decision to replace the original or not, I decided to print the front of the booklet and slide it in the case on top of the booklet, that way if I want to reread the booklet, it is there. The back is printed on both sides, so I will also keep the original and put your new one facing out. I get the Best of Both Worlds. With the new cover for the booklet in now, it looks so much better than the original, and it make me feel that it is a new CD. I'm thrilled.

I have produced some covers for the Voyager tracks that were included on the two 30th Anniversary albums from Cresendo. I have additionally added the Voyager title, extended title and the end credit music as the album would only have been 24 minutes long. I now runs at approximatley 30 minutes.
On this occasion I have included the actual mp3 tracks as well. The main reason for this was so the files are correctly numbered. They are at encoded at 320kbs and the total size for the RAR is approx 66mb.
If anyone has a high res scan of the CD from the retail release of CARETAKER, I could create a CD label to match.
Hope you like these.

Nice! It seems obvious to use the LCARS, but there are still ways to do it well, and this is very well-done. I'm doing a series of covers based on LCARS stuff for TNG, but I just couldn't handle the color scheme they adopted, with all the pastel oranges and purples. Pity it's for Voyager, but what can you do? :)

Okay, Gang, a "bad news/good news situation: I went into my files, and my DS9 companion disc was missing, but I still had the STTNG companion disc. After looking at the computer part of the disc, I found out that it wouldn't work on any computer, unless you were running Windows 95 or 98!!! So, fortunately, when I had the original DS9 and STTNG discs, I had extracted the script files from each, and saved them into my Star Trek Scripts file, which is included here for all to enjoy:
https://hotfile.com/dl/195975691/e2d3ae7/stscpts.rar.html
I had edited all of the DS9 scripts, so they were only the TXT files, no computereese text, but the STTNG scripts have jumbled crap at the top, so you need to go down about 10-12 pages, then you will find the script.

Does anyone have a scan of the spine for the DS9 set? I'm putting together a double CD cover for Emmissary and the tracks from the 30th anniversary CD set. I've recreated the front and rear cover, however I do not know what the spine looks like as it was a four CD case. I've seen the spine to the bottom half, which was just the composers names, but I need to see the top one so I can match it to look the same on the shelf for all the people who bought the set.
Hope some one can help.

I copied and pasted, typed (with capital G) and so on. It may be a bug in my archive program. I am trying to get some help from the support idiots...I mean, support people....from the company but they seem to be more inclined to insult my intelligence and intent on misreading what I've written than actually assisting. At least, so far. Maybe -- if I keep at them -- I will get ahold of an intelligent person who doesn't assume they are God's gift to the support world and that everyone else is some sort of moron.

Thanks, Scotty, Mega works like a charm! But getting technical advise from our beloved miracle worker, I didn't expect less! :)
I've used it, just for the fun of it, for the Star Trek scripts, uploaded before by William Taylor on hotfile, so now we have a mirror (in case hotfile takes it down):
(As a reminder, this is the original "blurb" from William Taylor for his original upload:
Okay, Gang, a "bad news/good news situation: I went into my files, and my DS9 companion disc was missing, but I still had the STTNG companion disc. After looking at the computer part of the disc, I found out that it wouldn't work on any computer, unless you were running Windows 95 or 98!!! So, fortunately, when I had the original DS9 and STTNG discs, I had extracted the script files from each, and saved them into my Star Trek Scripts file, which is included here for all to enjoy:
...
I had edited all of the DS9 scripts, so they were only the TXT files, no computereese text, but the STTNG scripts have jumbled crap at the top, so you need to go down about 10-12 pages, then you will find the script.

The official word is StuffIT can not handle certain encrypted RAR file. Smith Micro blames it on the fact that RAR is not an "open standard". I've used Mega for a few weeks now, and have no problems at all....uploads or downloads, secure (encrypted and non-encrypted) the add-on is for your browser so when the download is done you can click on a button and it opens the folder it was downloaded to, it also allows unlimited batch-downloads without any size restrictions...thats it, trust me if it did more then that it would never be on my system. You can check out Zippyshare.com there in France so they would go by the European Union Laws! whereas Mega goes by New Zealand Laws, which is why Kim dotcom is kicking the FBI butt in court...for how long is anyones guess, remember Kim Schmitz (aka Kim Dotcom) is not a citizen of New Zealand and New Zealand is very strict on who they give citizenship to. Good luck...

PLUS, with him it is not all about the piracy. He is accused of making a tidy amount of money off of the piracy, and encouraging people to break copyright law, rewarding those bringing the best stuff. Not a mac issue: I have used other archivers before without any problem. StuffIT gave me a few features the others didn't, which is why I paid money for it. The issue is that apparently the development crew at Smith Micro can't be bothered to implement the password matching for RAR's correctly. I have anther utility which I used for that and I'll save it for encrypted RAR's.

Amanda were asking for the set, not the track. Identifying the set makes it much easier to find what you are looking for - there are so many Star Trek scores floating around, including original recordings, retail, bootlegs, re-releases, re-recordings - you name it.
After searching for the track "The Enterprise", I found it on the 3-CD set "Star Trek The Motion Picture Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (La La Land Records) (1979) (2012)". Here's a link for you (in flac):

"3L" = "La La Land"? I'd never have come to that conclusion...BrecMadak, don't try to be clever, it only confuses people. If you want to refer to something, refer to it by its full name.

That is correct, PCM. I had no intention of buying this set, as I was not really "into" DS9. I was busy working on other projects, and was not involved in the production of the show, and was so busy, I never actually saw the televised series when it was on the air. I didn't watch "Voyager" until after 7 of 9 came on the show, although Jeri Ryan being on the show had nothing to do with my watching it, that was just a coinkydink! :) (and if you buy that one, I'll give you another, hehehehehehe)

Talk about bad timing: That was when the quality of the show went into the toilet. She had nothing to do with that (to me at least). I never looked at her as any sort of eye candy and was thoroughly impressed with her character, though the consequence of having Borg on the show meant neutering them as ominous, mysterious threats so they became just run of the mill. Voyager ruined the Borg in that sense as villains. She was indeed a great character but everything else - the endless reset button mashing of the concept, the extraordinarily dull exploration stories, the over-the-top yet still boring 'drama', turning Janeway from a fantastic, respectable leader into a trigger-happy, irrational nut only when the writers felt like that so her behavior was inconsistent...From season 4 onward with few exceptions here and there of good episodes, that show became a chore to sit through. Sort of like washing dishes or laundry: Not pleasant, but had to be done.
But damn if that title theme and sequence wasn't beautiful.

Firstly thanks soundtrekker for upping !
Secondly i have read somewhere maybe in this thread that someone was implying La-La Land Edition as L3 so i called as 3L. There is actually nothing not to understand since i have clearly mentioned "the track 'Enterprise' from 3L edition off CD 2" and since there is no "3L Edition" in our universe to be found it reffers to La-La Land Edition obviously.

Yes, but not all of us are that clever, you know - including me. I had a hard time to get behind your little riddle - mind you, I'm always eager to use my brain in various mind games, and your little mystery was indeed puzzling enough to engage me for at least half an hour... then I finally got it! :)

I think I only saw the first season of Voyager. The last episode I saw was when Voyager landed on a planet. Not seen anything beyond that point. I'm starting to watch enterprise at the moment with one of my friends, then I have Voyager, and then DS9 from season three on. Not to mention the original series which I have not watched in over 25 years. I'm going to be watching Trek for a loooooong time to come. :D :D :D

This is the CD label for the Heroes and Demons/The Bride of Chaotica. This will match the cover from The Caretaker CD. Thanks go to ajcrean for scanning the CD from caretaker so I could recreate this as closely as possible (I didn't have exact fonts etc, but it's close enough for Jazz). The link below is for the CD label only.

Hmmmmm, seems no one is interested in CD labels, not one download. I suppose most people don't use them. I shall concentrate more on doing covers in future and leave the CD labels.
So, just waiting on what the spines look like on the DS9 box set and I'll be able to put up the two disc set of Emissary (retail) and some other DS9 music that is available. I have pretty much created a very close copy of the official release. :)

Will I did enjoy your CD cover Pearl! sorry if I was a little slow seeing your post. I too am watching Enterprise, and I'm in the middle of season 2 and just got seasons 3 and 4 so I'll be busy for a while. I never enjoyed DS9 and thought the whole idea of setting Star Trek on some station in the middle of no where was a bad idea to begin with, don't get me wrong! there were some good stories, but they were far and few, and like William I saw only the first 4 or 5 episode's of Voyager and then started watching season 6 and parts of 7, by then I couldn't figure out what was going on. So I'm trying to figure out which show I should watch next! Voyager or DS9? anyway once again Pearl thank you for all your hard work on Voyager covers, they look very nice in a CD case and complement the rest I have.

Deep Space Nine IS Star Trek for me. Everything else pales in comparison. I'm not a fan of the original series, mainly because I don't subscribe to the idea that just because something came first automatically makes it best. I enjoyed their movies, but not their television show.
I've said my piece about Voyager seasons 4 to 7, but seasons 1 to 3 are very enjoyable. They hadn't betrayed their concept yet.
Next Generation....well I feel the same frustration that the series' writers did. Many of TNG's key writers went onto DS9 and the fact that DS9 is the way it is, is a direct reflection of the writers' time on TNG and the restrictions they had.
Enterprise....I saw the first few episodes then completely lost interest. I'd see UPN promos for the show and noticed they were doing Voyager stories and showing TNG / DS9 / Voyager-era aliens when they shouldn't have. I have no regrets about walking away from that show.

[QUOTE=LDMartin1959;2286756]Not a mac issue: I have used other archivers before without any problem. StuffIT gave me a few features the others didn't, which is why I paid money for it. The issue is that apparently the development crew at Smith Micro can't be bothered to implement the password matching for RAR's correctly. I have anther utility which I used for that and I'll save it for encrypted RAR's.[COLOR="Silver"]

Well, it may depend on the version/vintage of StuffIt you reviewed. Older versions didn't support it (and I don't think the free versions do either) but the paid version does support RAR files. Just -- apparently -- not correctly. I'd be careful of downloading my last set of covers, because they included the mp3 files and it's 67Mb. On dial up that would not be good. I'm enjoying Enterprise. Watched the first 4 episodes so far.

If it is, someone forgot to tell AT&T!
Wall phone wire (RJ 35) does deteriorate and of course it all depends on how it was installed (when the house was built and if it runs close to power lines) can cut down on your speed. Of course you could tear out your sheet rock and re-run new phone line, hug a tree and pay off the national debt! when you get DSL just make sure your upload and download speeds are what your paying for before the tec leaves, this way if it is not, then you can have him or her check your lines for interference and maybe fit it...nothing worse then spending a hundred bucks on DSL and find out it is just as slow as dial-up.

Good advice. The phone line box outside is about 8 feet from where my inside phone jack is, so replacing the wire is easy. No walls to tear up. My phone line that comes to the house is underground, and I bet it needs replacing. Only Death and Taxes last longer.
Since my modem is so old, I'm getting a new one. Even when I get the newer PC running, I can use the modem, so it is worth getting one, until I get DSL.

Don't forget the Bureaucratic mind!!
Oh do I know that! right now I spend about $200.00 a month for U-verse (Phone, TV, Internet) which is not to bad and my DSL is maxed out at 24mps (24 mega bits per second) Underground lines are so much better then above ground, if your phone line is exposed to the elements then yeah you will have problems with connection speed. There is something else you need to know about DSL, your speed up or down is also determined by how far you are away from the switch box! (normal distance is around 3 miles, then the Internet company has to put in a booster [to boost the signal back up] and how while the Internet company maintains there equipment) for me the switch box is about 150 yards from where I live, so I get great signal strength (of course the phone lines are underground and they are Cat 6 [Fiber Optic]). If you have a laptop or a smart phone check to see if it has wireless built into the modem, I save myself a lot of money connecting my cell phone to my wireless modem instead of using AT&T wireless data...unless your last name is "Gates" then you can afford to buy AT&T. AT&T is "Ma Bell" once again (the only thing they don't own is Bell Labs) so the only choice is Comcast or some mom and pop Internet company, and they will get bought up by the bigger company's sooner, rather then later. As I look at it...AT&T built and owns every long distance phone line, local phone line, switching station in this country! every other Internet company backends off of them (Comcast, AOL, Warner Cable, every mom and pop company) they are the Internet in this country.

In other words, your area still runs on copper underground phone lines! it appears it's going to be a few years before they replace copper with fiber optic. The new modems AT&T uses has wireless built into them as mine does...the model is 2wire and has a range of about 300 feet, but since you live in a rural area your range maybe a little better (no interference from other wireless routers or transmitters) so as I said earlier, if you have a smart phone you can connect it to your new modem and save yourself some bucks, I even have my kids cell phones connected to it, so as soon as they come into range of my wireless transmitter, their connected to the Internet and don't have to use their own data time. Copper has much value, almost as much as gold. There have been instances in germany were art plastiques standing in front of museums or comapnies have been stolen - and then probably melted down for its material values.
You just let everyone in the area know those lines are made of copper.

No, Scotty, that has been going on for decades. They discovered in the late 40's, early 50's that if you took a bar of radioactive elements, and put them onto a bar of gold, that the molecules vibrate at such different rates, that within a year, the two bars are fused into each other!!!! What the upside of this is that when the two bars are completely fused together, you would basically have a new element of sorts, but the downside would be that it would take 200-300 years to run it's course, and then the bar of gold would be worthless! Hehehehehe :)

In this economy ...? Well you just spread the news, you will have fiber optics coming your place in no time :D
It is around here as well! new housing tracks around my area have been striped bare of their copper wire! all the inside walls torn apart just to get the copper in it, the city I live in is surrounded by major agriculture, so any copper that farms have is stolen. Unfortunately copper will be around for a very long time.

William
Yes since the 1940's by Einstein, Podolsky and Rosen! but theone2000 is talking about is having two diamonds separated and vibrating at the same frequency can send data instantly to the other! copper and fiber optic cable would be worthless, there would be no need for either! all communication would be instantly transmitted, no delay! another step toward a quantum computer.

To answer some questions, I live 9 miles South of Clanton, AL, I do have DSL in my area, and have found out a way to afford it on my Social Security budget, I only have a PC, and a Tracfone, no WIFI enabled device.
We have heard of many copper thefts around here, too, and I'm afraid to carry pennies in my pant pockets, they might get more than the pocket change, if you know what I mean.;)

Yes, here in the southland, they have been stealing the man-hole covers from the streets, since some of the older ones have copper in them! People driving down the streets, early in the morning, while it's still dark, hit these holes, and total out their cars! The city has been running like crazy to come up with new man-hole covers that are not made of any copper at all!

I just watched the Enterprise 2nd season episode The Catwalk, and the music was awesome! Jay Chattaway composed it. The first time I heard his music was in the PBS mini series Space Age, and I had to get the CD. So, is there a recording of his score out there to get?

From The Catwalk I'm certain there is not. I wonder about Space Age. I never saw the mini series, but after hearing so many good things about the music, I'm sure it must be great.
Anyway, I've just seen season one of Enterprise, bits and pieces from two and three, none from the fourth one. Should I see all of them? Any recomendation you folks may have will be greatly appreciated.

I like the 1st and second seasons best, and then the 4th. Season 3 is one BIG war story, and Archer is not himself, which bothers me. It is a good series, and enjoyable to watch, for SCI-FI. For me it tries to re-write Star Trek history, and if you don't mind that, then it should be watched.

The Catwalk did have great music! hopefully LLA well do a release of all the music for Enterprise...[crossing fingers]
I'm in to disc 3 of Season 3, Archer is different because he has to be to get the job done! in a situation like that I'd think anyone would throw out the rule book and do what was necessary to save ones home world from destruction...I know I would and live with the consequents later.

It is differently worth seeing all 4 seasons if you can! the show does change Federation History as we old farts know it! some of it is okay but other things they added where down right madding and just plan BS! it was if the the Producers and Writers got together and said "*uckit, now that GR is gone lets do what we want! and square what ever was written in TOS, the Movies and TNG or any book" Sorry for a the rant....Other then that it was a okay show lol

I remember loving Silent Enemy music.
I know there are no plans to make a Voyager set as the DS9 or TNG ones, but if there were, music from which episodes should be highlighted?
Scorpion, Endgame, Basics perhaps. Future's End, Someone to Watch Over Me. It really bothers me that I cannot remenber any other one to mention.

Drama over canon. I never understanded why these two can go together. I think Abrams was more aware of canon than some writers of Enterprise. Braga is a fine writer but not a good showrunner. You need good ideas, and Braga sure had a share, but that's not enough. He lack the integrity of Piller, Behr, Moore and it shows. The first two seasons of Enterprise were... uneven, as season five or six of Voyager (the seventh was ran by Biller and we got more "morality plays" in that one). I saw two or three episodes of Enterprise season three and they were more fucused. I'm looking forward to watch the last seasons, except the finale... boy, those two (Berman & Braga) were angry! It was so fu****g bad! To me they said to each other "so, they like NextGen more than OUR series... let's give that to them!"

With TOS, STNG, and DS9 soundtracks released and more coming, it is great to see/hear. It is a shame so many other TV series and movies and Direct to Video soundtrack are not released. I like how the Japanese treat the fans of music, in the US, mostly we are second class citizens, when it comes to soundtracks. A good example, Filmations He Man and the Masters of the Universe soundtrack was release in France in the 80's, and the same or close has been released with the DVDs about 30 years later! What about STTMP soundtrack, THREE versions released over 30 years, why not just release the complete score when it came out?

AZSNeed: Here in Argentina the soundtrack section in music stores are always throwaway, back in one dusty little corner. I still hasn't been able to get Les Miserables soundtrack from last year movie. I'm not talking about a rare CD set like the LLL's DS9 or TNG, this is mainstream. Then you hear the big shots from the labels talking about the music industry dying.

This whole business of waiting for releases is SO out of date. It's an authoritarian system, were the customer has to take what the companies have to offer. This kind of economy isn't suitable anymore, to the very least there should be a different system running alongside.
I want first-time music release on demand. Make me pay in advance if you must. Make me bring a minimum of 1000 customers to the table, i will do that. Internet allows me, allows us, to make that possible.

I considered satellite internet in the late 90s and was surprised how reasonable the cost was. Although not as fast as cable or microwave, it is far more respectable than dial-up and far cheaper. And it can be used in the middle of nowhere. If you have plenty of clear skies, all the better.

There was an episode similar to 'Trials & Tribble-ations' from DS9 in Voyager. It was the episode 'Flashback' that guest stared George Takei in his role as Captain Sulu of the [I]U.S.S. Excelsior[I] with Tuvok serving as an ensign on his first voyage during the events of 'Undiscovered Country'.

You're welcome! I'm halfway done with a best-of enterprise as well (it takes longer than I planned), including some tracks i never posted on the blog, so there is some new music for those who have the original rips as well (like the Sparring scene from Harbinger, music from The Shipment, or the theme of the creepy telepath from Exile and some others. The only new music in this DS9 set is from Prodigal Daughter.
Also I started a new thread with music from Desperate Housewives, in case somebody is interested. (that has practically no sfx at all, so i think it's really worth checking out)

If there was only ONE episode from "Enterprise" that you could watch, it has to be "In a mirror, darkly"! It was a two parter from season 4, and it is the BEST of the series. I wish that they had done a TOS flashback episode on Voyager, like they did with DS9, they were the best for us old dudes to enjoy! All of the old crowd really jumped online and talked about that Enterprise episode for YEARS!! :)
It is GREAT!
William
Yes in deed! I loved that episode!! it brings back the old magic from TOS, it's to bad Enterprise could not recapture more of it.

Oh, and if you all haven't checked out "Star Trek: Aurora", here's a link to the site:

Tim just emailed me, saying that he's working on a new episode, which are VERY funny.
Check it out.
William
I just sat through the whole episode!! a great job Tim and the music!! wow wonderful!! I just downloaded them, I highly recommend watching this and listening to the music.
Thank You William for pointing this out.

In a mirror darkly is cool. And really has no place in the Enterprise time-line as we never see the "regular" universe at all. I do not see how Voyager would do a crossover with TOS though. Too far away. But a mirror Voyager, wreaking havoc and destruction as it does ANYTHING needed to survive and get home would be cool. And, We might have seen what mirror Borg were like... :)

Perhaps this is something JJ Abrams should take note of ... :/
Steven Spielberg: I think that CG is a tool that often becomes a weapon of self-destruction. I certainly have done my share of CG since I was at the forefront of the revolution as a producer of YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES, that had the first CG shot ever, and then JURASSIC PARK that the first CG characters ever. Jim Cameron in-between did brilliant CG work on THE ABYSS and then T2…
I’ve actually suffered from the wealth of riches that CG can give a filmmaker to almost over use the technology to get everything out of our brains and on to the screen when sometimes what’s fun is being denied your best ideas and then you’ve got to fall back on a compromise, which often turns out to be an even better idea. I fall victim to that, too.

Well at least "Living Witness" gave us a little taste of it. It's alternate, not alternate universe, but still alternate :)

Yes, I think out of all the "Voyager" episodes, I like "Living Witness" the best! I also like the episode where 7 of 9 was lying naked, while the doctor was painting her, hehehehehe

I've resigned myself to the fact that I am not going to see the spine from the LaLa Land DS9 set and have created my own version, sort of, based on the Back cover spine. Anyway. These covers have been totally recreated from scratch. I did cut out and use the DS9 logo from the CD cover as I could not find an HQ version of it anywhere. I have also created the CD labels from scratch to match the LaLa Land ones.
Disc 1 is basically the Emissary CD which you can get from here
Thread 127883
Disc 2 is the Odds and Sods I picked up from the two 30th Anniversary CD's and from TrekCore. The ones from the 30th disc have also been posted else where by the lovely Amanda, however I have included the tracks for disc 2 within the RAR file as I have numbered them accordingly. RAR file size is about 73mb. However, I have also given a link for just the covers only. So take your pick :)
I think I've matched the covers pretty closely to the official La La release (apart from the spine probably, unless I have been really flucky)

Watch it, it is a self contained story, with it's own instrumental main and end themes. It feels like a spin off series pilot, sort of.
Great, I will then.

Disc 1 is basically the Emissary CD
Disc 2 is the Odds and Sods I picked up from the two 30th Anniversary CD's and from TrekCore. The ones from the 30th disc have also been posted else where by the lovely Amanda, however I have included the tracks for disc 2 within the RAR file as I have numbered them accordingly. RAR file size is about 73mb. However, I have also given a link for just the covers only. So take your pick :)
I think I've matched the covers pretty closely to the official La La release (apart from the spine probably, unless I have been really flucky)
P.S.
I've not misspelt Unauthorised as I've spelt it the British way. :)
Another EXCELLENT PCM original cover, beautifully done!
I just installed a new modem and got the cover download the first time, so here's hoping I can get some small file backlog caught up.

When I first saw the TNG episode "Booby Trap" the Ron Jones cue for the ancient warship and graveyard stuck in my head. Years later I remembered why it sounded familiar: Jones inspired in the Goldsmith cue from the movie "Patton", when the General walks over a old battle site.
Here you have the original Goldsmith's:
The Cemetery by Jerry Goldsmith on Patton (

And here the one from Ron Jones:
24. Ancient Warship by Ron Jones on Star Trek: The Next Generation - The Ron Jones Project (

Which James Horner also used in the Wrath of Khan in the mutara nebular scenes. fast forward to around 5 mins 25 secs to see what I mean.

I only did disk two because it's bits of music pulled from various places, but disc one is the retail release of Emissary, which is available here

I should have put that link in my original post. I will go back and edit it now with the link.

Nice collection, however, most unfortunate that all the music tracks have SFX all though the music :(
William
Well, there is nothing I can do about that, but tell CBS to include an isolated score channel in their future releases, and I'll be happy to buy and rip them again. :-)
Until then, sfx or no sfx, "Belle's Death" or "Emotional Bond" are still some of the most beautiful McCarthy pieces I've ever heard and the music from "Fair Haven", "The Thaw" or "Tinker Tenor..." is still fun.

The only problem with flipping her and moving the combadge is now she's wearing her earring on the wrong side. Not a complaint! Just one nerd giving another nerd a hard time over ridiculously minor details. ;)

Which James Horner also used in the Wrath of Khan in the mutara nebular scenes. fast forward to around 5 mins 25 secs to see what I mean.

Totally. In Jones case the use was more justified, I think, but it's also more obvious.

James Horner is somewhat famous for recycling cues in general. "Aliens" for example was composed under great time pressure, so he drew on earlier work.

I just rewatched the pilot of Star Trek Voyager after about 4 years and again i am crazy impressed.
Following the series i remember how i wasn't really convinced by Kate Mulgrews acting,
especially when she had to be soft, but here she's just great (e.g. her conversation with her husband).
I know she filled the role late when much of the pilot was already filmed but i still believe she
(and the other actors) got more takes to really nail scene; just less constraint than in the weeklies.
So hats of to all of them. It might not have been the best of Star Trek shows but it was cool show
nevertheless :)
uuuuuh and please! Bring Star Trek back to Television please!!! I have a hunch JJ Abrams ONLY(!)
took an interest in Star Trek as springboard to get into Star WARS. It makes total sense and i think
we will see his goodbyes to Star Trek after his third Star Trek movie (contracts). With him gone
Star Trek can come back to Television! And i very much doubt the whole current cast will want to make
a weekly, which means, they will other "instances" (SMILE :) ) from where a TV series would start out from again.
I just know it. JJ Abrams interpretation of Star Trek will be just a side note in Star Trek history, something that
rekindled interest and will get people into the real thing ...
2016. That's my guess. 2016 Star Trek will back to televison :) Cheers!

I only did disk two because it's bits of music pulled from various places, but disc one is the retail release of Emissary, which...
I like how you swing both ways. You use both 'disk' and 'disc' in the same sentence. By some unwritten convention CDs are Compact Discs and HDs are Hard Disks. American English is a derivative in a similar fashion as Bourbon is to Whiskey, amongst other things, and perhaps should be renamed accordingly. Perhaps Butchered will do. And yes, I've just had a Whiskey and gone on-line with a pointless rant.

Mrs. Colombo isn't bad, but she mumbles her words in Voyager. When I saw the pilot in the 90s I was wondering when the 'Native American' would do-in Janeway and take over the ship - never happened.

Ahh, Typo, meant to be disc.
No one has ever inferred that I swing both ways. I know I'm a Doctor Who fan, but as The Cool Arnie Rimmer said "I'm strictly butter side up" Saying that, being a Doctor Who fan a lot of my "WHO" friends are "butter side down" as Rimmer might say.
Anyway all that's left to say is "Smoke me a kipper skipper. I'll be back in time for breakfast"

I have always said "Disc", and never said "Disk". Back in the 50's, someone had referred to a "flying saucer" as a "flying disc", spelled that way, and I've been doing it that way ever since. When I was living in London, everyone spelled it that way, so I was almost a native, hehehehe :)

Disc is disc, if that makes any sense, but disk came from the computer world. It can also be (confusingly) shorthand for diskette. This could have been deliberate on the part of IBM to name the storage devices in that way, because disks often have more than one disc as they're a virtual cylinder - a spindle of discs. Or simply the documentation chap couldn't spell.
This spell checker is having a whale of a time underlining my text in red. It wants to reverse the letters r and e in words like centre and theatre. It wants to drop the letter u in words like colour and flavour. It wants to swap the letter s for z as in realise and authorise. It has no clue that words like programme, cheque, licence and defence are completely legitimate.
English 2.0 PE (Pidgin Edition) is coming out this summer which will hopefully resolve a lot of issues.
centre/center become senter
colour/color become kolor
defence/defense become defens

They say English is a developing language. So many of our words are borrowed/stolen from other languages. Celtic words, the original English, seem to have faired the worse. There are very few words left of this native dialect. The most notable words that are still around tend to be names, for example, London, Kent, Dover or river names such as Thames or Wye.
The Romans then left their mark with the words Win = wine, Candel = candle, weall = wall and belt = ....errrr...belt.
One of the biggest influences is Germanic. Apparently one third of English is made up of the Anglo Saxon tongue. These words are very common words, night earth, house sing and sleep to name but a few.
Vikings gave us silver, cake, anger, awkward, die, egg, freckle, muggy, skirt and smile.
Not to mention Latin and French input.
A lot of people have said that the English language is rather chaotic and needs an overhaul with proper rules and pronunciation. Samuel Johnson published his famous dictionary in 1755 (The big papery thing tied up with string). However he hated some words and left them out of his book in an attempt to rid them from the language. Of course this didn't work, mainly because the words were in common use and also because Baldrick chucked them on the fire. The words he hated, and for the life of me I can't think why, were, bang, budge, fuss, gambler, shabby, and touchy.
Anyway, most of these were changes were during the Middle Ages, but (and but is a very lazy word to use) with the "Text" style of typing becoming more commonplace, people actually say LOL.
I remember when I used to work for a well known camera manufacturer in their Customer Service department, I would despair at some of the emails coming through that were typed in SMS language/abbreviations. I, on many occasions, would send an email back saying that the content of their email seems to have become corrupt, that letters were missing and words made no sense. ;) It was a small pleasure, maybe a bit petty, but it made me feel better.
I'm sure my old English teacher, Mr Ricketts, would be appalled by the way kids and adults right these days. I don't profess to be able to give anyone grammar lessons, however I believe that I can construct a cohesive sentence reasonably well. Then again, someone will probably pick my ramblings to pieces.
Ooh, I’d best say something about Star Trek. Isn’t it interesting that Gene decided, all the way back in the 60’s, that metric was the way forward and that imperial was to dated. Saying that, I quite like imperial. I remember……..I think I’d best stop now.:D

I think perhaps you misspoke here--"win", "candel," "weall," --these are emphatically not Roman words. They might be Saxon words by the spelling. Or to put it another way: non recte dices. :)
I suppose you might be arguing that vinum became "wine" (which it did), and that vallum became "wall", which I suppose works. Oh, and belt is cingulum.
Anyway, back to Trek...I saw the new trailer today. I don't even recognize Star Trek in this new series.

Let's not forget that GR also set English in the Federation as the "Standard Language" that is to be spoken! English (rather American or British) is the language that is most used in the Financial world, Political world and the Military world of today...I do believe two world wars settled that question long ago.
I love the British phrase's for what we (Americans) use for commune things...the British say "Lift" we use "Elevator" The British say "Knock You Up" we use "Wake Up Call" it's all great fun, I remember watching my first British TV show late at night back in the early 80's called "The Benny Hill Show" (I still watch his DVD's) at first I could not understand what the hell he was talking about, but after a few shows and doing a little research (I had a very close friend that was from Britain, so I asked her...now that was funny lol) I figured out what he was saying, and laughed until I was on the floor! so I may be a bloody wanker! but I do know how to laugh with my British cousins :)

Alfred Hawthorn Hill (aka Benny Hill) is not an idol of mine, he was someone that was like the three stooges all rolled into one person and someone that made me laugh! I'm sure he was not a perfect person, hell neither am I (and don't want to be perfect) but he was a good entertainer. I had no idea Bing Crosby beat his kids and wives!! how sad!!

As an Englishman , William ... I could never understand why Benny Hill was popular over the pond , I never liked him at all , I hope all americans dont think we are all like Benny Hill we actually are more like Austin powers ( with bad teeth and all that ... ;-) ) Its funny you know , I have been to the US on a few occasions ... LA SF and NYC and a lot of Americans are mad about the Royal Family ... when most people over here couldnt care less !!! Also Scottyys point about differences in languageis amusing .... the word SPUNK is actually the slang word for SEMEN in the UK !! and the word WANKER is slang for masturbation !!! That is why the composer Thomas Wanker changed his name to Thomas Wander ...

I never really subscribed to Benny Hills humour, and I didn't like him as a person. I would much rather have watched (and did watch) Morcambe and Wise. They were excellent entertainers. Tony Hancock was another great British comedian, he, along with his writers Galt and Simpson, was so far ahead of his time, just hilarious. It was such a shame that he committed suicide thinking that people did not find him funny.
But there were many people who liked Benny Hill, and good luck to them. It would be a boring world if we were all the same.

Language is always changing... all of them. Spanish is "controlled" by the Real Academia Espaola (Real Academy of Spain, sort of) and a few years back they decided to drop the letter "ll" (yes, two "l"s, was actually a letter for us), even if there are many words that use that letter: lluvia (rain), llaves (keys), etc. And they have an ongoing argument about the letter "", which the first Commodore and PC keyboards didn't have back in the eighties. Anyway, the spanish language have been influenced or corrupted (depends on the speaker) by English that, as Scotty points out quite correctly, is our Esperanto. We say, here in Argentina at least -in Spain is different-, "living" for living room, "PC" for Personal Computers (in Spain is "ordenadores", that to us is quite funny and kind of backward), and of course Star Trek is Star Trek (not quite, actually is "Viaje a las estrellas", that literally would be "Trek to the stars", or "Journey to the stars... ah traduttore, tradittore).
And don't get me started on SMS abbreviations...
Well, enough rant about this. Sountrekker maybe would like to add his two German cents :).

Same here, but I wonder if similar things were said about TNG back in the eighties. Maybe younger viewers enjoy this kind of videoclip storytelling and they'll say that the pace of the Berman produced series is slow. I like "our" Star Trek, the ones I grew up with. I feel like Lt. Valeris... :)
Spock: "History is replete with turning points, Lieutenant. You must have faith."
Valeris: "Faith?"
Spock: "That the universe will unfold as it should."
Valeris: "But is that logical? Surely we must....."
Spock: "Logic, logic, and logic..... Logic is the beginning of wisdom, Valeris, not the end."

2016 Star Trek will back to televison :) Cheers!
i agree. trek movies have gotten progressively worse since first contact, the last great trek film. trek has always been better on TV.
my only main concern is that i would like to see a return to the original timeline. so many great episodes and films, only to see them erased out by the new abramsverse timeline...i would like to see something set after the next gen era, circa 2390 (which in real time would be the time elapsed since nemesis, which is set in 2379)

If they do, it'll be J.J. Trek the TV show and for movies they'll probably bring Michael Bay.
The Star Trek we know and like is dead. The new movie made a lot of money and so will the sequel. There will be 0 interest to bring the old Trek universe back on TV as it wouldn't be viewed as profitable. :(

TNG got well deserved criticism when it began which resulted into IMMENSE improvement after the 1st season.
Nowadays it's just "SHADDAP, U HATER!!!" and 0 improvement.

I think it would be kind of cool to start where Spock disappears into the black hole...2387, I think. It would set the "real time" thing off by a few years, but that's not a huge deal. This could explore the fallout after Romulus is destroyed, among many other things. Just a thought...

Ah....I remember the two Star Trek series created by the great Gene Roddenberry, which I have fond memories of and love. It is a shame that Star Trek is dead. The evil Klingon Rick Berman, that was banished for his dishonor of the Legend of Star Trek, and the Romulan reject JJ Abrams that twisted the rest of the Legend into twisted nothingness, is the cause of the death. May we

BOYCOTT THE IMPOSTOR MOVIE!

Johnson: This book, sir, contains every word in our beloved language!
Blackadder: Oh well in that case, sir, I hope you will not object if I also offer the doctor my most enthusiastic contrafibularities.
"I'll be back before you can say disestablishmentarianism."
Imperial is based on Roman measurement units. A milestone was placed every thousand paces. Pounds are represented by lb from libra. Metric is scientific in that it has well defined parameters for establishing each unit of measurement and allows the use of the decimal point making calculations more easily integrateable into matrices - handy in the new age of computing. As it was used by astrophysicists I'm guessing this is why Roddenberry wanted it. But I'm sure they mixed both in the series. Just don't get me started on the ever changing warp factor scale - they don't know their a'hole from their elbow.
