My dear people of ffshrine!
Commons and nobles,

Let us try, for a change, to be civilzed. Let's have a go at it. Take a stock of yourself. Are you civilized?

If you can answer this question with YES, we are having a deal. If your answer is NO, then you need to sit down and talk to your son about it.

I have future plans to announce to those of you who are primarily living in the 24th century Star Trek universe. And bring yer friends, because there's plenty of booty to share.

I, Lord Fuckingham, have been sitting on two smashing, previously undisclosed recording sessions for the past month or so. I'm indebted to Dr. Leakey, who sold them to me. All for a nice little sum of 1.700 Pound sterling. Honour to whom honour is due.

To cut a long story short, shall I finally post those frigging STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS sessions? And what do you offer me in return? I don't give them away, just for the fun of it.

Make your offers HERE.

I'll send PM to the most attractive offer.

If you have any comments or questions, I'll be happy to fuck you.

signed,
Fuckingham

I for one, don't call that truly civilize, but seen to be a man of the eugenic war !

As Picard of the Prime Universe said : "The economics of the future are somewhat different."

And if this man is truly noble, answer that remark of Picard First Contact : "We work to better ourselves and the rest of humanity"

Finaly, the language is not of a man that live under the United Federation of Planets, seem more like a Jem'hadar for the directness !

Everything I have that's of note I've either gotten from here, or can be readily found here. And I certainly don't have anything in the way of monetary value right now. But I sincerely hope the Into Darkness sessions see the light of day, as that was the best film score of the past decade, in my humble opinion. So all I can really offer at the moment is my eternal gratitude and a hearty Fuck You in advance!

For serious, though, that complete score NEEDS to get out at some point.

Im a bit behind on the mission log, but i really like the format! The host's are great and its a whole lot of fun.

Yeah, they're good - I like the way they unveil their take on the morality and philosophy of each episode and are funny with it. I've been sort of darting about, just listening to the ones that refer the eps I've watched recently (and they're only halfway through season 2 of TOS). I'm kinda looking forward to seeing what they make of season 3. It may be hokey in places but there are episodes there that I love too!

Hey, I wanted to say, Amanda - I LOVE your model collection. I have a few of those die-cast Eagles too - the lab pod one and the freighter also. Not having the time to make models anymore (I have a half-built TOS Enterprise that I've been working on for years), I snapped these up when they came out - beautiful things.

LOL I understand completely!

My parents got me for Christmas (when I was 7 and my dad being in the Navy) the USS Saratoga (CV-3) I spent all day putting that model together and painting her! I was so proud to display her in my bedroom. She stayed in my room for several years, until my little brother decided to take her and put her in our swimming pool and cannon balling her and sending her to the bottom! where she set until I got home from school, by then all the decals had came off and the glue came lose, by then she was a total loss! broke my heart!! from then on any models I worked on I put up high so little hands could not get to them. "ROSEBUD"!!! is right...:)

We noticed!! Welcome Back :)

It isn't connecting at 115k. It is impossible for a dial-up modem to get more than 52 Kbps. What you are seeing is some kind of Windows error thing. When you set up your modem, you can set the maximum speed. Yours is probably set at 115k, and when Windows connects you, it displays your max setting rather than actual throughput. You're probably getting between 33.6 - 52Kbps, something like that. If you can't get DSL or Cable where you live, your pretty much SOL! unless you want to pay through the nose for Satellite. Call your ISP and ask them if they are updated with the v92 standard! if they can't answer your question or don't even know what the v92 standard is then they are not and your only hope is DSL, Cable or Satellite....wish I had better news for you my friend.

DUDE!!! How strange, that is the EXACT same thing that Rod (junior) did with the 3 foot TOS Enterprise! Seriously! He took it into the pool, and jumped off the diving board onto the model. Since it was mostly wood, it floated. He broke the nacelles off first, then smashed the secondary hull from the main saucer. When I found out what he had done, about 5 years after the fact, I saw him at Majel's table at the convention, and he laughed about it, and told me the whole story. He was only 10 at that time, so he was only 5 when he destroyed the biggest piece of TV history in Scifi books! When I spoke with him, when he was 18-19 years old, still at Majels table, he then totally denied that the situation had happened at all!!!

Most illogical!

AZ, Man of Steel is definitely different than previous film or televised versions, but I found it decent enough. I have some quibbles, but no deal breakers. It is best on a big screen. It is fx heavy throughout, and some dark scenes (tone and lighting wise). I am not sure little ones would enjoy it though. But maybe. The fights ARE fairly video game/animation reminiscent.

Why don't you just post the sessions for all to enjoy? Why must everyone trade rare items and withhold great music from those who want it?

It sucks, but it is much more complex than that for traders. Into Darkness sessions would be a hot item right now. Items like that are held back because the person that has them is looking to use them as leverage to try and get other items they want. If he posts it openly, he will lose the ability to get anything in return. He may also burn his contact, lessening his chance to get similar items in the future. Once an item has saturated the trading market, it tends to get posted here. Some of the recent "leaks" have caused trouble for this reason. The leaks were still considered rare. Anyone trying to use them as trade has now lost that leverage. They are essentially screwed. On top of that, the original source (scorpranos in this case) got seriously burned. So, there is a likely loss of future items getting posted as easily.

Now, I severely dislike this system, as do many of you. It is frustrating when someone openly posts on the forum that they have a thing, but will not share unless they get something equal in return. Unfortunately this is just the reality of the situation, and it is not going to change to suit our sensibilities. Admin and the mods find this behavior "silly" at best, and have repeatedly stated such open trading is not allowed here. Menopause notwithstanding.

Jessie

For the modelers here, or for all TOS fans, this from Round 2/AMT web site. If you notice that they misspelled Uhura's and Chekov's names and they said accuracy.:)

STAR TREK BRIDGE SET

Item No: AMT808
Release Date: July 2013
The set of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 became memorable as the primary location for many of Star Trek's best episodes. The model kit set originally released by AMT in the mid seventies supplied modelers with an opportunity to build a set of their own. The kit is now re-released with the key addition of new figures and added details. Spock's and Sulu's scopes are present for the first time in the set. Parts to build six figures are included with options to build Kirk, Spock, Bones, Sulu, Checkov, Ohura, Scotty or other "red shirts". Additional wall sections are also included for the first time to allow the set to be built completely in the round. New updated decals are included for accurate displays.

Scale: 1/32
Skill Level: 2 (ages 10 and up)
Glue assembly, paint required
New figures and additional wall sections
10 character choices to build 6 figures
Sulu & Spock scope parts included
Build the COMPLETE bridge-in the round!
New updated decals for accuracy

Yea, I've seen that. Not for me, no room. I still have the newer release of the 1/350 Enterprise refit in the box. I'd get the 1/350 original one too, but it is over 100 dollars these days. :( They are also doing a 1/350 scale K'Tinga class cruiser from the first film. Those who do not know the scales of how big these are, the refit is over 3 feet long assembled, and a foot and a half wide at the saucer. It's the size of a large dinner plate, and it is **gorgeous**. I had built one before, the original release, and had given it away. This newer release has much more detail, but supplies are expensive, so for now it sits and awaits Goddess' touch. :awsm:

Mods rarely do perma bans, so there s a chance he can come back. I don't really have an opinion via the trade/sell thing. It is just a fact we have to accept. YES!!! Exactly! I always hated when someone, even Horner, when the composer is too lazy to actually write new themes for a new movie, and just recycle something done before, like "Cocoon 2", and many, MANY other films! Just shows that the composer is LAZY! Even John Williams has done that. Jerry Goldsmith didn't do that, but he would take a theme, and "variations on a theme" to DEATH in a movie, but always with style and inovation! Every composer has done something that the fans will say "why did he (she) do that?" It's all a matter of perspective, money vs motivation to do cutting edge music! Jerry Goldsmith had gone overboard on a couple of films, with new and imaginative cutting edge music ideas that just didn't work, and the whole film was much poorer for it. Would have been better to stick to a more traditional music style, but he had to try, and see what developed after the smoke cleared. He's only human, you know, hehehehehehe :)

Guess it's fairly obvious how I feel about Goldsmith, huh? :)

William, I agree about the lazy composers, like James Horner, Laurence Rosenthal and Leonard Rosenman. I can pick what movies the scores came from in whatever score I am listening to. I have noticed John Williams, but, not as bad and besides, one of my most favorites. Now Jerry Goldsmith, to me he is the man, whether over the top, or not, very exciting scores to listen to.

Post reported.

I could care less if I get these recording sessions today or in a year.
When it comes down to it, you have two choices in this world:
Love or Selfishness. Love gives freely, selfishness, to the very least,
seeks advantages. And this is not some bullshit religious stance,
because I'm an agnostic. All i can say, Mr. Fuckingham, life will
have quiet a few surprises for you, like for the rest of us,
i suggest an attitude adjustment, if one day you rather die smiling.
All that "taking advantage" ever did to people, is making them
age faster. I have a "good heart" and look about 15 years younger.
Just sayin'

Just rewatched Charlie X, for the first time on BluRay. Two observations:

1) When Charlie meets Janice Rand the second time (in the corridors) you can hear a thumping sound effect commonly known from some areas of the ship. It's actually pretty loud in this scene. Call it Charlies pressuring desire or Janice Rand's entrapment, the sound effects are DEFINATELY used to highlight the scene. What masterful, masterful brains there were behind this show!!!!

2) On the bridge Captain gets kicked to the floor. We are pretty close to him. I always assumed the bridge's gray floor was some kind of PVC or some other flat, artificial material. But you can see the texture, this is actual carpet!

Bonus observation :D

3) I feel sorry for Charlie, but anyways: Michael Myers go home!

Mr. Leslie was playing dead.;).....really.....NOT! Since a week passed on TV between episodes, I guessed we were to forget...

... Galloway got wasted, but he at least had the decency to comeback as Johnson.

Ahem. Cock-up update. Galloway who came back as Johnson, came back as "Galoway" in Turnabout Intruder. I'm getting the impression the filmmakers weren't concerned with continuity in the space-time-continuum.

The inclusion of the Animated Series theme is bound to please a multitude of fans who have been hoping to get the music from the short lived TOS spinoff for a long time. As we've previously covered in interviews, the original music is thought to be lost but thankfully that hasn't stopped BSX and Hauser producing a brand new recording of the catchy theme.

Pfff! They could always pluck most of it out of isolated episode music tracks.
But they're lazy, soooo...

Well, ok, they're likely actually avoiding to release it because they'd have to clear ton of rights as the music was used in other Filmation stuff that aren't owned by Paramount.

So I was watching the 1986 animated version of Transformers: The Movie, and lo and behold, after watching an early theatrical trailer that I found online, the music from the trailer is mostly from Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. I'm very curious if this was actually licensed or how this came about. The trailer is available at the following link although it is extremely poor quality.

Transformers - The Movie 1986 - trailer with MASSIVE spoiler - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s3j7yYJbKY)

I knew Lenny and Orson were in it, but Eric Idle! Those fragments could also have been from "Battle Beyond the Stars". Hans Zimmerframe's "Black Rain - Charlie Loses His Head" was used in a few trailers in the 90s, including Speed me thinks, but don't quote me on that.

The way Paramount guards there properties (unless their not getting any money from them) I can understand not broadcasting the fact he has a copy of the master tapes!! but still, he knows how much you love TOS! yeah I'd be a little upset too my friend. There is a bright side to this, if he can get you a copy, you can see if LALA left anything out and post what they did not :) and of course there is the cool factor! you have a copy of the Master Music Tapes from TOS (a one in a million) :)

If that's true (and as always, I'll take your word for it!), that's really sad, but that's the way things go sometimes!

So the guy you are referring to had the master recordings. Does that mean that HE is also the one LaLaLand got them from for their release? I would think that "master tapes" can exist just once per definition, or can there be more than one "master tape"? (Forgive that silly question... )

Well, first of all, I have no idea what format he had dumped the music to. Since he is NOT a "music person" in the business, and he is definately NOT the sharpest knife in the drawer, I shutter to think that perhaps, 10 years ago, he dumped them onto CASSETTES!!!!! (Yikes) :( I was using DAT format back then, along with reel to reel, but this guy is not an audiogeek!

I am fairly confident that he's not BSing me, because he just doesn't do that sort of thing. I will find out all the "W's" (what when where why, and how come) and see if there is anything we can do. I was thinking that he may have stuff that LALA left out, but according to their own statement, they only left out alt takes that were dups of the aired music, and included all the un-used stuff. AND, speaking of LALA, according to their own promo video, it showed them walking into some "vault" of sound recording reels, which I KNOW for a fact is not the storage area over at Paramount, which I have been in many times, last time only 2 months ago! I have no idea where that was supposed to be, as I stated before, but I don't think that the "master" recordings were taken to area 51 for storage out in the dry desert! Hehehehehe :)

Anyway, I will see what we can see. And, YES, AZSneed, if it turns out not to be, you can kick HIS ass, and mine for being a dumbass! :)

Thanks for the elaboration on the matter, William! Interesting stuff... I misinterpreted you when you said "he's had the music from the master recordings", thinking he "had possessed the master recordings", instead of "had duplicated them onto some inferior medium". But even if they were on cassettes, there might be some stuff of interest... who knows... Looking forward to any new infos on that. If nothing comes out of it, however, I won't mind - the LaLa release was pretty much complete and probably didn't need any more alt takes, which would have made some of the music redundant.

William. Those master recordings would be degraded to some extent by now, or what? Were they 'saved' in the 80s or 90s on to digital media? And am I wrong to presume some filtering shenanigans has been thrown at them prior to them being recorded on to CD.

As far as I'm aware commercial pure digital recording didn't kick off until the 80s. The most common type of CD had a SPARS code of AAD, where the first A indicates the recording was originally Analogue, the mixing Analogue, and the recording Digital (always D in this case). But then there were a handful of DDDs out there, which are truly lossless recordings. It also seems that new CD labels don't carry the SPARS code any longer, regardless of when the original recording was made.

I too, hope that the Master Tapes copies, if worth it, have some hidden treasures.

I don't think Area 51 is the place, more like the underground bunker of the Vulcans. You know how they want to keep us down.

William

As I remember the video (I could be wrong) but I believe the fault is in Arizona, which would be a perfect place to store reel to reel tapes and film (dry heat, no humidity) which is why the Air Force stores there aircraft there. As for your friend having a copy of the tapes, it's plausible! who knows how long those tapes originally stayed in the studio lot vault before someone found them and brought it to management attention, hell, for all we know the on-site vault got full and they decided to ship all this (Management thinking) old crap to another storage site! or one that can offer better protection for the medium they want to save. Can you imagine Trek fans finding out Paramount let the only known recording of the music to such a beloved show sit in a vault and decay (not that it has not happened to other films and music) and did nothing to protect them! Not that Paramount cares! All they see is dollars lost, but for us that love TOS it would be a terrible loss to say the lest. Anyway, Azsneed I'll hold him and you can kick the crap out of him and then all three of us can go have lunch!! William your buying!! :)

Here is youtube's page for the video on the TOS music Star Trek: The Original Series Soundtrack Collection- Behind the Score - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UA34dfODi4M)

As you can see the music was recorded on 1/4 inch tape, 150 reels, 1/2 hour per tape for a total of 75 hours, then it was digitalized, cleaned up and made ready for modern CD players. Most of the takes were in mono, so LALA filtered them for stereo, there are a few takes that where recorded in stereo. Hope this helps....

Is there anyway I can get the Arena fight themes and music?

That's a tough one. "Arena" doesn't have an original score, and the official LaLaLand release only has music for episodes who got a full or partial score, or snippets of additional music tracks like the cembalo music from "The Squire of Gothos" (I think less than 40 episodes). The remaining episodes, including "Arena", were more or less completely "tracked", meaning they had cues from episodes produced before in the series/season, or music from some of the "library sessions", with music composed for no specific episode. "Arena" was heavily tracked with music composed by Sol Kaplan, from the episode "The Enemy Within", but there certainly were other episodes from which music was tracked. If you already have the 15 disc collection (you can still get it somewhere in this thread, I believe), you can go through the music from all the episodes produced in season 1 before "Arena" and put together your own "tracked" score.

Helpful for such a task would be the original cue sheet for that episode, which makes it easier to identify the tracked cues (their origin and the place and lenght in the tracked episode), but so far (with a few exceptions in Jeff Bond's book "The Music of Star Trek"), there are no officially released cue sheets, as far as I know. A while ago, Williamtaylor said he would love to pinpoint them and share them with us, but I have the feeling he had no luck so far finding them, right William?

Another possibility: maybe some tracked episodes have been created already, now that all the original material is available! If someone has done some of them already, it would be great if he/she could share them with us here! And who knows - maybe "Arena" already is one of them! :)

I've went back to my album copy and it's Disc 4, and the Arena cue you hear prominently through the episode occurs mostly in track 8, "Confrontation". Thanks for your help! I do agree that this would be a hell of alot easier with a cue sheet.

Hang in there olafolaf. It IS/WAS a good show, and the characters grow. It had a lot of potential to carry on the franchise, but for some reason, Syfi was having an 'identity crisis' and canned it (along with much of it's original content). It wasn't the traditional "Stargate". It grew into it's own. Anyway, just my thoughts. ;)

Of course, if that is your normal summer then you're expecting it, even if you don't like it. If the normal temperature for this time of year on the East Coast is, say, high 80's, a heat wave of 98 plus humidity sucks more for folks in New York than 110 does for you (I'll take 100 dry desert degrees in Vegas over humidly rotten 90 in Manhattan any time). It's all a matter of perspective. It's always hotter/colder/wetter somewhere else. Someone always has it worse. That doesn't mean you can't bitch about your bad day. We're humans: complaining is what we do best.

We in OKC should be happy to have highs "only" around 95 as in the last week. But *sigh* correct, Amanda, part of human nature is fussing.

Around here, it's not the feet, it's the stupidity.

I MEAN not the heat, but the HUMIDITY.

Of course, as CS Lewis referred to, "being human" is at once the greatest thing you can imagine but also nasty enough to make the greatest king hang his head in shame ...

I run hot, so to speak, so I'm at my most comfortable at 68ish. Anything in the mid-80's in uncomfortable, so you can imagine I'd find 98 to be intolerable. Once I reach "torture" level, hot is hot. I find 98 and 105 feel pretty much the same; it simply sucks.

Funny, when I was a kid, I didn't care as much. I was just happy to be home from school, staying up late, watching Star Trek on the overnights.

I prefer Tribble over Chinchilla. Or Sable, for that matter.

When science perfects asexual Sables, or Chinch, then I might become a fan.

But since Tribbles are a dime a dozen, the bottom's fell out of the Chinch, Sable and Mink markets.

Yes, my sister, while I was young, would come up to me, and ask me if I wanted a donut (and I DEARLY loved donuts, as a kid) She would say, "Hey, do you want a 'Hertz' donut?" and of course I would jump up with delight in my eyes, and say "YES!!!", at which point she would punch my shoulder and say "HURTS, don't it?" :)

That is a good film Scott, but in my mind the best film they did was "The Life of Brian" I can't think of anyone else who could get a spaceship and aliens into a film set in the time period of Jesus Christ. I laughed so much at that film.

Take care, Amanda, words alone cannot express my feelings for your pain. I think that there is no greater pain, than one in the head region, especially the mouth! I personally believe that mouth pain is amplified about tens times greater than any body pain, and since my sister in law suffers from migrane headaches, and sometimes has to take as many as 3 days in a row from work, because the pain is just SO intense. I would not wish that sort of situation on ANYONE, not Hitler, or Napolean, or Genis Kahn, (maybe Bush Jr. or Sr. Hehehehehehe) but nobody else!!!! :)

Take care, sweetie, hope that your infection goes away as you sleep!

I always find that if I take some meds, and just go coma for a couple of hours, or days, that is the best way to kill any pain I have.

To Scotty:

I do agree with you, that Monty Python and the holy grail is a great comedy, I used to dream about (as a young lad) of finding myself trapped inside "Castle Antrax" with 15 score girls from 16 to 20 (I know, I'm a PERVE, but this was my youth, when I was between 16 and 20!!!) Talk about getting excited over a SPANKING!!! (not to forget the oral sex as well! Hehehehehehe) Well, that would be something to dream about, huh?

I do like the Life of Brian as well, but Holy Grail really has ALOT of great lines, like someone worked on that script for 10 years!

Oh, well, back to the grindstone, Hehehehehehe

This forum's turning into an infirmary of sorts. I don't know about Advil, but for serious toothache you should go immediately to your local pharmacy for some "Oil of Cloves", and rub some on your tooth periodically. That should see you until Monday. But if you've got an abscess you'll need some prescription antibiotics like amoxicillin. Good luck.

As the line goes in Monty Python and the Holy Grail....

"The Dead Collector: Bring out yer dead.

[a man puts a body on the cart]

Large Man with Dead Body: Here's one.

The Dead Collector: That'll be ninepence.

The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm not dead.

The Dead Collector: What?

Large Man with Dead Body: Nothing. There's your ninepence.

The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm not dead.

The Dead Collector: 'Ere, he says he's not dead.

Large Man with Dead Body: Yes he is.

The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm not.

The Dead Collector: He isn't.

Large Man with Dead Body: Well, he will be soon, he's very ill.

The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I'm getting better.

Large Man with Dead Body: No you're not, you'll be stone dead in a moment.

The Dead Collector: Well, I can't take him like that. It's against regulations.

The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I don't want to go on the cart.

Large Man with Dead Body: Oh, don't be such a baby.

The Dead Collector: I can't take him.

The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I feel fine.

Large Man with Dead Body: Oh, do me a favor.

The Dead Collector: I can't.

Large Man with Dead Body: Well, can you hang around for a couple of minutes? He won't be long.

The Dead Collector: I promised I'd be at the Robinsons'. They've lost nine today.

Large Man with Dead Body: Well, when's your next round?

The Dead Collector: Thursday.

The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I think I'll go for a walk.

Large Man with Dead Body: You're not fooling anyone, you know. Isn't there anything you could do?

The Dead Body That Claims It Isn't: I feel happy. I feel happy.

[the Dead Collector glances up and down the street furtively, then silences the Body with his a whack of his club]

Large Man with Dead Body: Ah, thank you very much.

The Dead Collector: Not at all. See you on Thursday.

Large Man with Dead Body: Right."

The first time I saw Holy Grail I was still in high school. I was 15 or 16 yo when older brother took me to the Midnight Movies where it was playing and I laughed so hard I pissed myself!

That film was so damned funny I laughed so hard I couldn't catch my breath, and my stomach hurt after. Holy Grail is a MUST OWN kinda film and I had a copy on VHS, now I have a copy on DVD.

Don't live without it!

Like you, Scott, I used to have entire scenes memorized verbatim. My memory's still pretty good, but not verbatim good!

Bringing out the dead, the Black Knight, the king's effeminate son who would prefer singing rather than get married and inherit "Huge" tracts of land, the Killer Rabbit, and the Bridge keeper scene at the end of the film stand out in my mind as particularly hilarious...

My DVD edition contained about 1 hours worth of extras such as a nickle tour of the filming sites all over Scotland, inside and outside of one of the real castles used in the longshots, interviews, etc. It's a must see for any "real" MP fan!

Sorry to hear that AZSneed :( . Tooth pain is really one of the worst pains out there. I hope they get it sorted soon.

It will be, on Friday, I get the tooth removed. I thought I was going to go the way of the Red Shirts. Oh! The pain. The PAIN! I swear the tooth looks like a Klingon Battle Cruiser, then again, it could have been in my mind from the pain.

There is nothing worse then tooth pain! I have had my fair share, and normally I can stand pain, but when a tooth goes bad or is abscess!! God have mercy!!!! I'd rather be shot or have a finger cut off.

I do mess up some of the lines and my brothers correct me lol oh and the The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch!

"King Arthur: How does it... um... how does it work?

Sir Lancelot: I know not, my liege.

King Arthur: Consult the Book of Armaments.

Brother Maynard: Armaments, chapter two, verses nine through twenty-one.

Cleric: [reading] And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade, that with it thou mayst blow thine enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy." And the Lord did grin. And the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths, and carp and anchovies, and orangutans and breakfast cereals, and fruit-bats and large chu...

Brother Maynard: Skip a bit, Brother...

Cleric: And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.

Brother Maynard: Amen.

All: Amen.

King Arthur: Right. One... two... five.

Galahad: Three, sir.

King Arthur: Three."

Sorry to hear that. Whenever I have problems with my teeth or gums, I use baby's orajel (or a dollar store equivilent) it helps to numb the pain for a while. Ironically enough, I am ill too with a sore throat. I am gurgling orajel to make that pain go away. (Helps to heal my throat up faster too).

Some fans may appreciate The Final Frontier not because it's a great film, but simply because it's got the original crew, and it's nice to see them on another whacky adventure.

There are many polls like this. They don't actually mean anything. The films and series and whatever else, are only entertainment to those they have entertained. I have never understood the culture or phenomenon of peer pressure where you are forced to like something because a lot of other people do. What you end up with is an audience that partly consists of people pretending to enjoy something. That's all fine for the movie executives because it's about the bottom line for them.

I'm not keen on the new Trek, and I can't and won't be coerced into liking it. What an odd concept.

In reverse, given my age, (23) I'm not keen on the old Trek, it's too low-tech for a futuristic show. I first saw TNG, and the original movies are fairly close to that style. So I don't see it as such an odd concept that people who grew up with the old Trek won't necessarily like the new Trek. It's not meant for the Trekkies as much as it is meant to attract a new audience, because let's face it, the die-hards are at the core of the reason the franchise nearly collapsed in the first place (the studio's endless attempts to placate them) It's like Star Wars. I was nearly 9 when the Prequels started coming out, so the first Star Wars films I ever saw were the originals, and not the SEs either. I tend to have a leaning towards the OT, but somebody younger than me will likely have a leaning towards the Prequels. We're not likely to sway either way.

By low-tech I'm assuming you're commenting on the contemporary film-making limitations and not some of the exceptional stories and cutting edge concepts that featured in some classic episodes. Personally I wouldn't attempt to compare cinematic productions with television productions. They're different animals.

The fans are to blame for the collapse of the franchise? The original show ended in 1969 because of stupid network executives. That show has been shown all over the world and rerun for decades. The animated series had a good run too with appeal to younger viewers. The Next Gen was a good sequel series which had a good run also. The Deep Space 9 show had a great run as did Voyager. The so-called franchise cashed in considerably from the repeats shown on television round the world and the sales of VHS tapes and DVDs. Star Trek The Motion Picture did well, as did the Wrath of Khan, as did the Search for Spock. Back in those days money was not devalued as it is today, and people paid hard cash to see these great films. Who supported the franchise back then? People like you?

If the franchise were to collapse... All good things...

I'm not attributing the collapse to that specific point, and I'm not saying all fans are to blame either, you've misread what I said. The near-collapse happened at Nemesis because it seems the producers were trying hopelessly to pander to the hardcore, I believe. In my personal opinion, the reboot was a good thing to happen. The studios took a long hard look and instead of trying to create another film that was aimed at the hardcore fans, they chose to create a film for anybody who wanted to watch it.

I'm not sure I like the connotations of "people like you". Am I to infer from this that because I'm not keen on the TOS (although I don't hate it) I'm not to be seen as being any sort of fan? That's wrong, for I adore the films, yes, even Nemesis (which had an interesting premise let down by bad direction). I also said that I watched TNG growing up. Just because I started at a later point, does that mean I'm not a fan? No. I'm not a Trekkie, never will be, though. I might also point out that as I said I'm 23 years old there's absolutely no way I could have seen many of the films in cinemas. I do own them all on DVD however.

TL,DR - it's all a matter of personal preference. If you like the TOS, great on you, I'm not going to attack you for it. For me, though, it's not to my liking. I'm from a time where technology on TV programs has long since moved on.

The "you've misread" canard routine. As Khan would say "There she is!". As I expressed earlier this kind of poll means nothing, so there's no point getting your knickers in a twist. You watch what you like, but by starting a discussion with "Yeah... what? I could never understand the die hards of any franchise. I fail to see how Into Darkness could possibly be worse than Insurrection or The Final Frontier." you've opened the door to anyone who may agree with or object to your reasoning. You see, you've applied the connotation "Hard-core fans" and "Die-hards" to a section of the Star Trek community who are not keen on the reboot. There are most likely many different reasons for different die-hard-core-fans. I don't know how big that section is, but it's their choice - put me in that bracket. And by using such language you've inferred that they're extremists of a sort who hold a particular dogma with respect to the Star Trek Universe. It's not a crime to have discernment. You expressed some yourself.

Maybe it's come across as such, but I didn't mean to correlate "die-hards" with those who don't like the reboot. I see the die-hards as those ones who say that you're wrong for liking a certain thing, or that you're not a true fan. I do tend to have a certain incredulity, because sometimes I tend to look at the films critically outside of enjoying them. I sometimes also tend to say without thinking. I will say this however: yes, there are extremists in the Trekkies' ranks. Just like any other franchise. I've met some real doozies in other franchises' fan ranks.

I hope I've cleared a little of my intent up, it wasn't meant to be inflammatory. Let's just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

My tooth **is ** bad and will eventually need to be removed. I have a wayward wisdom tooth, that is growing sideways into my molar....

After what you just said, you don't have to wear a red shirt.;)

I do understand that what you are saying and respect your views, after all they are entertainment, not real life...at least for most. Let's make this clear,I'm a TOS diehard fan. So I do not like the two newer movies, since the real reason they were made, was for Paramount to bring in more money for themselves. The movies were not created for us fans, they were created in order to create new fans, and the hope they go back to buy the older series and movies on DVD and all of the other junk they pass off as collectables.

To me, only the TOS series/movies, TAS, and STNG series/movies are Star Trek. The others are SCI-FI. The 2009 movie, I though was eye candy only, no story, not characters, but, the effects were awesome, as far as I can remember. Since the 2009 movie disappointed me, I just could not see the 2013 movie. Into Darkness, is the only movie with the Star Trek name on it, that I have not see in the theater.

Just like the re-imagined/re-boot/re-invented movies put out over the years, I don't fool with them, a poor excuse for lack of original ideas, and only to hope for the studios to make tons of money on well known subjects such as The Lone Ranger, big mistakes!

One thing that I really like, is that you like Star Trek, we need more like you, but, if you don't like TOS for it's low tech, enjoy it for the stories and character.
Just like Gerry Anderson's puppet shows, I though how silly, until I watched them on DVD, and got into the story and the rich characters, and didn't notice the strings.

I never opted to have mine removed. I thought it was a free, natural way for me to grow smarter w/o trying too hard.

Besides, various warrior societies feel that pain is pleasure in and of itself. Pain is a badge of honor.

I've been feeling those wisdom teeth come in a little bit at a time since 1900 und 90. They're still coming in, taking their own sweet time. Those rat bastards!

I am sorry, I saw Nemesis I was sick to my stomach and I was semi-hardcore at the time. In no way does Nemesis lean itself toward a Star Trek audience. And even if looked at from outside the canon Nemesis is most probably on of the worst B-Movie abominations I have seen in my entire life. The only watchable Next Gen movie was First Contact and for adressing an outside audience, i'd say it shares the ranks with The Voyage Home.

Nemesis was a fairly decent story ruined by its execution. I do agree with the cast when they say that it was the direction that let it down big-time. The studio had a fairly short memory: yes, Johnathon Frakes directed Insurrection (which I think has more plot holes and makes less sense) but he also directed First Contact and that was a great movie. I'm not saying he would have been the best choice ever, but I do think they should have given him another chance instead of just booting him out of the director's chair. It might not lean itself towards a Star Trek audience, but I do think it was their intent to do so. And I refuse to believe it is worse than, say, Doom, or The Phantom Menace.

As for the other TNG films, Generations could in all honesty have been a two-parter for the series. They make a big thing out of this alliance between Kirk and Picard but it only appears in the last fifteen minutes. Insurrection had continuity errors and plot holes galore (IE the "I never kissed you with a beard before" scene). In all honesty, I also fail to see how 600 people all concentrated in one place, would need moving from a Federation-owned planet and why the So'Na don't just go back there without wrecking the planet. After all, they left, they weren't kicked out. It just feels pointlessly silly.

...Insurrection had continuity errors and plot holes galore (IE the "I never kissed you with a beard before" scene)...

That line is a source of a great deal of confusion in the world today. There was some disagreement about that particular scene prior to shooting. The original script included Geordi with new eye-balls and also Troi as a bearded lady. However, LeVar went for his upgrade in the film, and Marina rejected hers out of hand. But the script remained intact and so the misunderstanding exists. This is not an urban legend.

Star Trek 2009 is one major continuity error. I got more joy from reading the phone book for two hours. Next week I'll be watching some paint dry. Can't wait for that.

I always loved watching the grass grow!

My two sons took me to see "Into Darkness" on Fathers Day and after about 30 minuets into the film I was ready to pull my cell phone out and watch an episode of TOS, but I did not want to hurt their feelings, so I swallowed my own bile and silently cried! and came to the conclusion that this movie was like the other! nothing but....Wize, Bang!! No Story and a rape of what Star Trek was! :(

So I'll just continue watching my Star Trek VHS, DVD collection and youtube videos.
