@scoregeek:
well, there is a dr.spock in real life, as far as i know a popular children's doctor.
sadly, we are never safe from dis-illusionment or disappointment.
Never, not even when meeting people without the net: wait till they open their mouth to talk, wait tillmake-up is gone, wait till other stuff is gone, wait until the first 8 weeks have passed by.... the potential disappointments never end. ;)
yet: if it was me, in your situation, after some major suffering, i would tend to ask myself: he ight not have been the knight I hoped for, BUT am I the princess he might have hoped for?
but well, just some random thoughts ;)
@del37:
for me, it would be a definitive plus. My husband at least showed interest and started asking me about Trek, as he did not know much about it...
and he had the patience and was clever enough to sit and wait and listen to my answers too :D
Smart man. All things Sorei are worth waiting for. ")

I've been waiting a really long time for something, and all I know is it must gonna be REALLY GOOD! cause it's been like 45 years now. Remember the story of the Aliens that came to Earth, gave the Humans a book with secrets to well being. They started taking people to their Planet. They translated part of the Book which was named "To Serve Man" and the guy runs up to a friend or whomever and yelled not to board the ship, that the Book was actually a recipe book on how to make dishes out of people. Kinda makes me hungry for McDonnalds! Just some random crap going through my head as I read here at the thread. Kinda scary actually.

OMG, I gotta tell ya, went out on a blind date last night, she was supposed to be a big startrek fan, met her online, thought that she would be 30ish like me, pictures on her profile were nice, one on the beach in a bikini, very nice looking, but when she showed up, she was maybe late 40ish, early 50's, and fat! No way near what her photos showed, musta been taken when she was in school or college. I was really thinking about just getting up and wakling out, since she was not only fat, but kinda ugly as well, not cute like the photos. She said that she's been taking 9 different meds several times a day, and that was why she gained weight, but she didn't say anything about why her face didn't match her profile photos. and she knew nothing about startrek, kept calling Spock, Doctor spock. I didn't correct her, paid for the meal, pretended to have a good time, and left. Didn't even attempt at a good night kiss, or nother. majorly disappointed and depressed.
so, I gotta tell you, when dealing with people online, you never know what your gonna get, gotta get the trolls to get a current picture with todays newspaper, to make sure of what you are getting.
GOD, it was bad.

You should've whore the Blue Science Shirt with the Spock Ears and countered everything she said with some logical explanation like I'm a Science Officer, not a Doctor. The Ears usually freak them out. There's two kinds of people in this World, those who sit on the Driver's side and those who sit on the Passenger side of A Sonic Commercial. I never dated a lot when I was younger, I wonder why?

Hi all,
I'm sort of new here - I registered three years ago, but I've never actually posted. Also, I'm the guy behind the Star Trek audio collection torrents some of you have mentioned in this thread.
I wanted to ask, what's the protocol for asking for a reupload of something? There are a few albums I've been looking for whose links have expired (most of them on Rapidshare and uploaded by izbot). I'm working on the next version of the aforementioned collection and I would really like to include some of the stuff that has been uploaded here previously.
Best,
V.
Amanda

simply ask. Spectre8750 has made a thread, a trek depository for links. Izbit has not been active here in years, But, just ask for what you want and we wil see what we can do.

Strangely enough only very small is dictaded to be beautiful, yet more and more people in industrialised world are weighing more than is said to be "normal".
And, stangely enough, an overweight man still is more ok than an overweight woman.
(same goes for age, an older man still is more ok than an older woman, referring to TV appearances for example)
oh well.
I give shit about a persons weight. What good is a Brad Pitt-type, as partner, if he is not there when needed. If he does not understand and respect me.
a person pretending to be thin (in the net) and being overweight is one thing, a person pretending to be interested and pretending to care and actually being far from it, is yet something else...but that, again, is just some random thought and just me, you know, i can be strange sometimes.

McCOY: Well, they don't arrest people for having feelings.

KIRK: Captain Sulu! ...As much to the crew of the Enterprise, I owe you my thanks.
SULU (on viewscreen): Nice to see you in action one more time, Captain Kirk. Take care.

CHEKOV: So ...this is goodbye.
KIRK: I think it's about time we got underway ourselves.
UHURA: Captain, I have orders from Starfleet Command. We're to put back into Spacedock immediately, ...to be decommissioned.
SPOCK: If I were human, I believe my response would be 'Go to Hell!' ...If I were human.
CHEKOV: Course heading, Captain?
KIRK: Second star to the right, ...and straight on 'til morning.
Captain's log, U.S.S. Enterprise, stardate 9529.1. This is the final cruise of the Starship Enterprise under my command. This ship and her history will shortly become the care of another crew. WHAT???? My posts are being reported and deleted, even when I'm not saying anything about anyone on this board? When did we start this? I think one of Scotty's posts was deleted also. When did this become Nazi Germany? I was just talking about a similar event to Scotty's post and they were both deleted? Anything not about startrek gets censored? When did this start?

I wonder if later seasons of VOY and DS9 were actually shot in 16:9. I remember that for a long time it was said that X-File seasons 1-4 were shot in 4:3 (like TNG), yet the brand-new HD transfer (only on TV so far, unfortunately) is 16:9 and except for a few shots here and there, the picture is NOT cropped. You can actually see a lot more and it's just amazing, considering that X-Files season 1 eg was very low quality on DVD.

I agree. We just wrapped up SoonerCon 23 -- SoonerCon 23 | June 27-29, 2014. Midwest City, Ok (

Larry is a great McCoy (in two of the episodes) -- of course back in the 1990s he played McCoy and I played Spock at a different regional SF con, as "The Unreal McCoy vs the Ersatz Spock."
It was fascinating!

Not 100% sure, but I think it's Endgame
TOS: City on the Edge of Forever
It's the best Star Trek episode ever made. I know it's like saying "Citizen Kane" is the best movie ever made, but there's a reason for that - it is!
TAS: Yesteryear
Because: Vulcans and the Sehlat. It's a Vulcan teddy bear ;)
TNG: Darmok
It's the episode I recommend to newcomers to the franchise. It's really fun and really deep.
DS9: Emissary
Great pilot episode. I especially love Avery Brooks' performance. That one line: "I... exist... here..." is the most gut-wrenching moment in all of Star Trek to me.
VOY: Deathwish
Doing what Star Trek does best - taking present-day Earth problems and putting them in outer space. Watch it again and tell me the episode doesn't sound like it's commenting on this day and age...
ENT: The Vulcan Trilogy
I'm cheating. But the Vulcan trilogy is an amazing episode and would've made an amazing theatrical movie. Very nicely done. The fourth season of ENT is the single best season in all of Trek, in my humble opinion.

Yes, the rest of the crew is good, but I just cannot get in the groove with this person who's playing Spock. First off, he's smaller than Vic (Kirk), whereas Nimoy was taller than Shatner (Yeah, who isn't?) but this actor almost looks Asian. The other fan production with Kirk/Elvis has had two Spocks and both were pretty bad. Wish someone could get Adam Nimoy to reprise his father's famous role. Doohan as Scotty is brilliant, perhaps Adam could do the same! :D

TAS, I agree Yesteryear.
Next Gen, I like Best of Both Worlds I & II, and the follow up episode with the winery (faulty memory blocks title...must...reboot...)
DS9 I dunno, I'd have to rewatch and think on it.
Voyager I liked Year Of Hell.
Enterprise I don't have a fave yet, as I have not watched all of them. Movies: TOS Wrath of Khan/Search For Spock, which I consider 1 story. Next Gen - First Contact. :)

Well.
TOS: trouble with tribbles a funny episode that really cracks me up with those balls of fur.
TAS: Not really got a fav never really liked it.
TNG: A cross between Q Who and Best of Both Worlds ( I love Q and The Borg What more can be said)
DS9: Our Man Bashier Seeing all the cast still in makeup playing 60s bond characters funny.
VOY: endgame (again Borg) but i felt an excellent fast paced episode and i also liked that they got home and all was good.
ENT: The Augment Trilogy i loved brent spiner soong bad but also good a very good fast paced story.
MOVIE TOS: VOYAGE HOME makes me laugh everytime "double dumbass on you"
MOVIE TNG: first contact one word.....(borg)

oh there are several...i do like one of the latest a lot, cold equations, for example.
i like to get more background info, i love it when a story unfolds.
i liked the borg story-arc a lot. (Destiny) Made them more "alive" for me.
I loved "Ishmael" from TOS, as it is a Spock Story.
Mirror-Universe was one of my favorites. I love those kind of "alternate" stories, too.
I like the Mini-Series of the novels in general, they take time to develop a story from different sides and aspects.

On the same note, for those who have spent time in the literary world of Star Trek, what are some of your favorite novels, and why?
I haven't read that many of the books, but I have heard most of the audiobooks (obviously!) and my favourite is by far, the Vulcan's Soul trilogy. It is an epic story spanning centuries. It finally tells the story of the Romulan-Vulcan Sundering in such depth that it's almost Biblical in scope. To me, this is Star Trek's version of LOTR. I urge everyone who enjoys stories about Vulcans to read/hear it.
In terms of actual books I've read, I think the one I like most is Crossover. It's a worthy sequel to Unification. They should've put that story in the series.

Star Trek # 1 (Gold Key, 1967): "The Planet of No Return"
That was the first Star Trek comic ever published, and it was the magic and wonder, the thrilling and excitement I remember vividly, when I first had this in my hands (must have been the mid-70ies when that first issue was published here in Germany, I was, maybe 13 or 14 years old. In response to the books:
I also enjoy the mini-series runs:
"A Time To..." which took place between Insurrection & Nemesis
"Typhon Pact" and "The Fall" which continue the story of TNG/DS9 following the end of the series
I also enjoy the continuation of the Voyager storyline as groups of novels.
However, singular novels I enjoyed:
Original Series
Vulcan, Sarek, Probe, Best Destiny
TNG:
Metamorphosis & Vendetta
DS9:
Unity, Saratoga
Voyager:
Mosaic & Pathways
Enterprise:

There's Spock Vs Q - those are audio comedies (quite possibly the two most enjoyable hours of my Star Trek fandom). The three Sulu original to audio are also audio dramas with big casts. Other than that there are fan-made productions such as Star Trek: Defiant and others - these are also quite nice.
Would it be okay if I started a topic about Star Trek audio books? Mods, your verdict?

I think that they should be okay to discuss here. Too many threads to follow can lead to confusion for some, myself included.
On the Spock Vs. Q, loved them. I still listen to them every now and then. I love picturing Leonard Nimoy playing Spock as Q, "The universe is very gassy!"

Just going off topic to discuss a Star Trek issue...
Last night I caught some of ST6 on Film Four just to see if Rene Auberjonois had been reinstated in his role as Col. West. He was not. As I recall, I saw him in the theatrical release and on VHS, and I believe on the early television airings too. However, for the past ten years or so, he has been cut. His "we can clean their chronometers" line, and the bit where his mask is removed and real identity revealed are gone. I've checked with Rene Auberjonois - Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki (
http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Rene_Auberjonois) and it states that the Col. West role was cut from the theatrical version. Not true in the UK. I was there. Twice. With witnesses who will testify.
So what's behind this chicanery? The Col. West scenes are clearly related to committing a false flag operation, in this case killing old Mr. President in order to blame the opposition (Klingons) and get a war started. Sound familiar? Apparently, it appears this narrative is forbidden on our screens, and our thoughts. How I miss the old thought provoking Star Trek.
I know this was a topic from a bit back, but I just watched the DVD "Star Trek VI Special Collector's Edition" and the scenes with Rene were part of the film, both his plan that he pitched to the President to save Kirk and McCoy and the reveal by 'Worf' and the CinC of Starfleet at the assassination scene towards the end. It's the version in the amazon link below.
Amazon.com: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (Two-Disc Special Collector's Edition): William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, Walter Koenig, Nichelle Nichols, George Takei, Kim Cattrall, Mark Lenard, Grace Lee Whitney, (

I feel kind of boasty that I get to read these before anybody else, as one of the editors! Marc does all the work, and we get to look for misspellings, in exchanges for reading it early!
He told me that Volume Three should start through the pipes in a month or so, in prep for a fall print date.

Well, folks, looks like this if finally goodbye. I wanted to wait a little longer, but something happened last night, and I will not only be leaving this board, and the internet, but I will be leaving this horrible dustball planet, towards the great unknown. Scotty may be able to give you all links to the event, I'm hoping that it will be massive enough to share thru the news services, we will see. I'm not being overly dramatic, just very angry and pissed, and my tolerance of this shit is at an end, and so am I. Better than dying of cancer, huh?
Anyway, so it looks like they win, and I finally lose, everything.
No worries, however. I had fun, and I'm still smiling. Just remember me that way, and enjoy all the good tunes, sounds and stuff that I have shared with you here.
Take care and live longer.
Sincerely Greg R. Stone

Mr Woolesworth - Chicken Little
Great Prince Of The Forest - Bambi 2
He Turned Down A Few But Thats It.
Stewart turned down several roles during the Disney Renaissance prior to Chicken Little due to scheduling conflicts, including King Triton in The Little Mermaid, Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast, Zazu in The Lion King, Governor Ratcliffe in Pocahontas, and Zeus in Hercules. Stewart regards his missed opportunity with voicing Jafar in Aladdin as the greatest regret of his film career.

I am thinking about a rewatch of alien nation and Farscape. I hardly remember he latter but I remember movies and a TV series of alien nation? Was the movie with James Caan?
We're the movies just compilations, double episodes of the series episodes or did they have a different or additional content?

The original Alien Nation film starred James Caan. It was then turned into a series starring Gary Graham and Eric Pierpoint in the main roles. It continued the story from the movie with a couple of alterations. The TV movies were follow ups to the series. It ended on a cliff hanger. The first TV Movie 'Dark Horizon' started from there. In a way the Alien Nation TV movies were the same idea as Farscape The Peacekeeper Wars. A follow up to a series that ended too soon.

As we are discussing other sci-fi related shows, did anyone ever catch 'Seven Days' or '7 Days' with Jonathan LaPaglia and Don Franklin? I thought it to be a fairly entertaining look at the concept of time travel. Even though it did get a little repetitive due to the restrictions the show put on the science.

I also remember a show from the late 80's and early 90's called 'Time Trax'. It starred Dale Midkiff as a cop from the future sent back in time to the present day to catch a bunch of criminals that had escaped through time.

I found Farscape somewhat interesting, never got into Alien nation too much like a cop show. I was working night shift when they came out so I didn't get much chance to watch either :( . How many seasons did Farscape run? My daughters said they watched it but my wife never got into it. Like Dr. Who- my daughters love the show and my wife is bored by it.

There were a total of four seasons for Farscape plus a Mini-Series/TV Movie set after the finale called 'The Peacekeeper Wars'. If you watch through the four seasons 'Peacekeeper Wars' is a must. You will feel cheated, pissed, and frustrated at the finale due to the PTB at the then 'Sci-Fi' channel.

So... I'm back after being banned, again. I got banned for voicing my opinion on an open forum. Said something about one of the powers that be, and it didn't go down very well so I got banned! So, I put it to all of you. Some "johnny come lately" troll from another site, comes over here, downloads all the files that he can get his hands on, and turns around and reuploads them on his own file storage site, and then posts them back on the same site he got them from, but they are remixed, duplicated tracks, and different covers, etc. and says not one word of thanks to the original poster, grabbing credits all over the place, making him the big man on campus. What do all of you think about that?
I know several people here who have complained about this very same situation, and have deleted their links, because their files were stolen in this same manner, and posted on other sites without giving the original uploader credit, but this is a different problem.
Tell me what you think, and do it fast before I get banned again, because I am "starting trouble"

sorry, did not notice that... as for what you describe (one member pops to mind, but you may refer to somebody else entirely, not important though): not giving credit is annoying, of course, but what you describe is common behaviour (maybe sadly)

As to your question! you are 100 percent correct in your opinion, the person should be tarred and feathered! All the files were either bought and paid for with there hard earned money and gracefully shard with all of us, with no profit given in return! just thanks and likes!! so it is just a low down dirty person that would take someone else's hard work and money and use it as there own! Hello Scoregeek,
You are not a "starting trouble", you told the truth.
What I read is very sad, I thought all the members in this forum were good. I was wrong :(
I now know that there are users here who are taking what others have posted, remixing it, putting different covers on the files and re-posting them as their own.
WilliamTaylor has had the same thing happen to him.
It seems, I say "it seems" the Administrators know about this unhealthy situation but they do nothing !
They should know that the forum is slowly dying because of people who are stealing our work ... and many unscrupulous young members that have no idea what Loyalty is !
Many important members who uploaded the soundtracks already stopped sharing their files with the community.
And some other guys will stop as well.
:( I uploaded 101 soundtracks.
:) 397 soundtracks were patiently waiting to be uploaded (and for the guy who has a terrible reputation, "Blue Hawaii" was among them).
The situation is bad and sad but it's better than dying of cancer !
Daniel.

....an open forum still can be (and reasonably will be) a moderated forum. "Open" is not identical with "everyone can say whatever they like in every way they like".
It can mean someone states something and gets moderated, and maybe not everyone will understand or like that decision (me always included)
And, of course, none owns anything in a forum like this. Or in the net (when it comes to "sharing") Just stating this, I do understand you, turner, i do even share at least a part of that what you stated.
Mirrors, remixes, reported links, if unwanted or not, will always be part of that sharing system, as long as it may exist. You can have stricter rules, of course, or a private forum (which still has the problem to take care of rules being followed) or whatever else.
There is nothing like a perfect system, and every system has advantages and disadvantages.
As soon as you have more rules, you will have people complaing about that fact, too, no matter if these rules make things more secure, or whatever.
And like in real life, you always have some people follow a certain code of behaviour (more or less), and others who do not.
And as always, there is a variety of opinions and perspectives, each one based on individual experiences and judgement. It is one thing (and sometimes even the "easier" thing to do to feel "safe") to say something is wrong or right, but:
"The Truth" is a complex thing.
(There are at least 3 dimensions of truth: a) the one i do not see, b)the one you do not see and c) the one we both do not see)
Anyway, I will try to enjoy what is here (in the net), as long as it is possible. :)
I shall continue to be eaten up by work again now, no worries ;) as usual, if I make too much or too little sense, just ignore me :D

Well here is the thing. Archives get passed around sites so quickly. And, no one credits the original upload. Most are not in any way aware of who that even is. Most of us fill requests or post without specifically naming a source. Not everyone wants to be credited. Most of the time we say something along the lines of "not my rip found on the net". Unless I say I ripped a web-site, or bought it, none of my posts are mine, for the most part. When I fill requests using soulseek I do tend to mention the member I dl from. When my wb-rips were downloaded, reupped at another site and then posted here, including the custom artwork posted here, no credit was given. Though I complained, I was informed that there are no rules against that. That the person was keeping links alive and that the more mirrors the better. Take what you want from that. But bottom line is none of this belongs to us, it is all being pirated and illegally shared, and all these archives come from various sites. No one really credits an op since we can never really be sure who that was.

I agree. It's the Salem Witch Trials all over again. The way I look at it, it's up to us to credit the original up-loader when possible, a little searching will take care of finding whom that is. I've given credit to people that haven't been here for 2 or 3 years. They still get my praise and even reps though their not around anymore. But I'm also grateful to those who just have the files at all to fill in the gap. And you can't expect to upload files and forever get credit for them, you'll eventually fade while your files go on. But in most cases the original up-loader gets the credit initially. there's a lot more than just one re-posting files. And it's not that big a deal in the end to hurt people for re-posting files. There's way more important things to worry about in this day and time. If people are having fun, let them. It's not worth ruining a share site over. And like I said, the ones who matter to us as friends know where the files came from anyhow.
Jessie

The admin can't punish people for reuploading stuff and sharing without giving credit to the original uploader. We don't have time to track down every single upload to make sure someone else hasn't posted it before and make sure proper credit is given. As Amanda has said, once something hits the net it gets passed around so much, hits torrent sites within minutes and creates new sources for other filehosting uploads by different people on different sites. But what we would like is for people that know where or whom they got it from to give them credit, but it has to be up to the person doing the reuploading. We can't force them to give credit because then we'd need proof for the person claiming credit that they purchased and made a rip of the music in question and prove they actually bought it or are the original source with like a paypal receipt or picture of them actually holding the CD and that's just madness, nobody has time for that.
Just tag your files with your name or add a log before uploading, that's really the only way you can insure people know the source. If people remove the tags on the files then that's pretty bad, but again you can't really know for sure who removed the tags or if the upload is from another source or someone else bought the CD too. So all i'm saying is demanding credits be given is pointless, it's up to the person to do it if they know who and where they got it from. There's no point singling people out for doing it because we all do it or have done it at some point.
And i'd like to ask people stop using this "dying of cancer" thing in their messages, it's pretty sick and insulting to anyone that is or knows someone that has died of cancer. I wont tolerate it.
Thanks.
Amanda

Dollars to donuts (what a weird phrase) most archives come from here. For new releases, it it isn't here, it is rarely anywhere. Once post here they pop up everywhere, with no credit given. And shrine is nearly the only place to get the links and sessions, at least initially. THOSE end up everywhere with various titles and bit rates.....

Not to mention it would be self-incriminating too.
Sharer: It weren't me gov.
Judge: But that is you in the photo with the receipt and the CD you openly admit to pirating and distributing under the euphemism "sharing".
Sharer: Oh bugger.

I like how I have read almost ten posts in a row, all filled with observation, thinking, and no brash slams or insults. I like to hear/read people talking about ideas. Thanks!
Generally I agree with previous statements. The point is to share -- at least in a place called "Film, Television, and Classical Music Download Links." You can restrict some things, if you wish, to friends or PM exchanges, but once something is on the forum, you have surrendered control. Sadly in any group you can have people who surrender to their worse angels as far as behavior goes.
I certainly hope that the people who take this kind of concept seriously will thank the provider (when it's known) and not indulge in ad hominem attacks, and will then share something nifty they have come across.
Once again in trying to be precise I come across sounding like a pedantic sniffy type. Sorry for that!
A Friend is somebody who will help you when they don't have to help you. In that sense, nearly all of you are my friends, and I've tried to return the favor.

Seeking attention and popularity on social media are vices of someone with a Posting Addiction. And part of the problem isn't being helped by having facilities such as the 'Like' and 'Reputation' buttons. It could be that some people are getting so much of a buzz from getting 'liked' & 'thanked' & 'repped' that they crave it enough to upload stuff that's already been done a million times before.
