Many, MANY more items are on their way, I have the music from the Roddenberry record "Inside Star Trek", that was recorded by a small LA based new age band, that was used in the background, while Gene would talk. I also have the complete "Inside Star Trek", along with many RARE recordings!

Enjoy, William

You wouldnt happen to be able to upload this would you william? or TOS's opening Kirk monologue?

Ettore Stratta - La Musica Delas Galaxis - Star Trek TMP Suite

I love this one! I hate it when orchestras substitue OST's instruments for others. This here sounds as if Goldsmith could have made it for Star Trek The Motion Picture itself, it's that great.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oy5NZbOaPbU&feature=related

PS: At about 4:10 you hear a very short flute cue that reminds me even of Star Trek Generations - but the movie wasn't even in the making them. Somehow Generations allways fit into Goldsmiths tune and now in Ettore Stratta, i can see how McCarthy could come up with his score - it IS somewhat related to TMP! Funny how two people without knowing each other can have the exact same interpretation of a third one :)

Enjoy :)

Star Trek – Next Generation: A XXX Parody interested parties send me a PM. :D

Now, I thought that this was going to be a funny parody, but it was a SERIOUS attempt at showing STTNG in real life, with sex and nudity! Amazing video, the captain Picard they have is really close! Most of the others are nowheres near the real deal, especially Riker! The Data person looks almost Mexican (no disrespect to Mexicans at all). The Worf is fairly close, but still an obvious copy, and the storyline has taken parts from various episodes, and follows pretty close to the Trek mainline stories. So, all in all, not too bad. You can check out some of the other parodies at "AXXXParody.com".

The "parody" is that it is a porn version of a real TV show which is pretty much been going on since adult films began but they always lampooned feature films but the latest thing is doing TV shows.

To be honest I only just found those links and have not downloaded them yet but they are in my download queue. (so many things to download, so little time)

Anyone able to reupload Star Trek VI and Insurrection; desperate to add higher quality mp3 (preferably FLAC quality) to my collection, rather than having these 128/192kb files on hand. I have I, II, partially 3, First Contact and Nemesis. Those are really the only scores I care about; V wouldn't be bad either but I can live without it. IV and VII were just plain average though.

Cog is an application that plays Flac and Ape files.

If you want a comparison of quality, that's subjective. Download the software, play some files and decide yourself.

Thanks, very much appreciated; I love these soundtracks, they are, in my opinion, on par with Williams' work for Star Wars, minus all the fancy motifs that he fills his music with, so much so that it lacks a coherent identity. Give it a shot. There are no rules here against Intrada, that is not the problem. The links seem to be reported, as they go down so quickly. That is not cause it is available, there are those around here that are against sharing in general. And, I suspect, these Next Gen sets are a bit of a sore spot with them. So, sad, too bad.

try right clicking it, then click "properties", then click details, and you can change anything you want, and perhaps before you click the Details tab, you can detick the tickboxes by "read-only" and "Hidden".

Yea, already tried that - won't let me do squat there. Read-only is not checked.

When I try to change anything in WE, I get this message - "An unexpected error is keeping you from applying properties to the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem. Error code: 0x08007000D: The data is invalid."

So I Googled this error, and found a program called "MP3Tag" that seemed to edit the ID3 tags, but yet going back to WE there were no changes made, and it still comes up with that error, yet Mp3Tag displays the tags, so I am at a loss.

That's why I requested the file.

No, there is no version, boot or otherwise. There is very little in the way of Voyager or DS9 score that is clean. There are rips for DS(. I really enjoyed the first issue of the new comic series. Great concept (doing original series stories within the new universe setting); I'll keep buying those as long as they keep making them. My only complaint was that some of the character artwork didn't work too well. I can look past that, though.

I just found out some info, sort of an addendum to my previous stories regarding the TOS sound effects that I put up here for download. As you recall, I got all the TOS sounds from where they were stored at "Horta editorial" in the Los Angeles area. Nobody at "Glenn Glenn sound" knew where they had gone, but Horta had done all the foley work and SFX work for the animated series, and also worked for all the "Hanna-barbara" cartoons as well. I traced the sounds over to Horta, and got permission from Sam Horta himself, to go thru his library in search of the missing sounds. I had my friend and sound editor, Ralph M. Miller to go with me. After several days of search, I found 2 reels of sounds, and Ralph found the third. Ralph took the original reels, which were recorded at 71/2, and jumped them up to 15 IPS, over at Paramount sound recording, where he was working at that time. He made several copies of the original, and we returned the masters tapes personally to Sam Horta, along with the 15 IPS copy, for his files. Ralph requested that I contact Douglas Grindstaff, the man who compiled all the SFX at Glenn Glenn, to give him a copy of the 15 IPS tapes as well. Mr. Grindstaff was very pleased to find the three tape versions of the TREK sound effects, which he believed to be long lost. What I didn't know until later was that Ralph had taken sole credit to finding them, and credit for cleaning the tapes up, which he did with the equipment at his workplace. About 8 years ago, Ralph wanted to borrow my DAT tapes, to make CD copies of the sounds, claiming that he had "misplaced" his master reel to reel copies! I gave him my copies, which I should have just given him a copy of the copy, but I trusted him at the time (I KNOW what you are going to say!)

When I got the DAT copies back, he also gave me three CD copies, in WAV format, on data discs. When I put the discs in the computer, all the track tags were changed to "Artist: Ralph M. Miller"! He had changed the tags from blank to his own name, and the whole disc had no mention of Douglas Grindstaff at all! I put the files in my computer and corrected this ego-manicial narcissism, putting the name of Douglas Grindstaff on every track, and Glenn Glenn under the name of the whole disc. I know that Douglas Grindstaff didn't create ALL of the TREK sounds, some of which came from many old sound effects libraries, mainly the CBS SFX library, where alot of the sounds came from, and then Doug had mixed one sound on top of another and another, or sped them up, slowed them down, or reversed them to make a new sound, however most of the major sounds from the show, like the transporter, belong to Doug, and nobody else.
8 years ago, I caught Mr. Miller grabbing items out of my house, and I had videotaped him directly! When confronted at a later visit, and presented with the video evidence, he claimed that the video was NOT of him, but someone else. Even when facing the camera, he claimed that was not him! I had been missing recorded sounds and music for a couple of years, off and on, and I could only narrow it down to a small handfull of people, and then only Ralph! I needed strong evidence of this situation, and when confronted, he called me "paranoid", and vowed never to return! I now have heard from members of his own family, that he is saying that I STOLE the sound FX from him, out of his house, which I had never stepped foot into, as his 3rd wife (THIRD wife!!!!) would not allow him to have any of his friends in their house! Now, how can a person steal something from somewhere that he's NEVER been to? Kind of difficult, that! Besides, he has nothing that I would be interested in!
Anyways, instead of hiring some shrink to mess around in my brain, I like to "air it out" on the boards, and drag the situation, kicking and screaming, into the light of day! Just wanted to get your take on this situation, TREK related, as it is. What would you do with a friend of nearly 30 years, who would pull some crap like this?

Sorry for ranting! :)

There goes my attempt for a joke ... yep! Editors make things up out of other people's stuff, life's "occurences" included. And if you think, breaking and entering doesn't fit in there, just visualize the cutting part and you get a proper destructive behavior. Of course the Editor is constructive too, but also very confused. They forget what to cut, who's stuff it was in the first place and the only thing left to glue together is the story that's attached to each time this happens. Story ... some of those Editors should have just become screenwriters - We'd all had a life more ordinary :D

There goes my attempt for a joke ... yep!

Well, add to that, the fact that the DIRECTOR is telling him (or her) what to do for every microsecond of film! They have no creative control, and they usually get their SFX from some library somewhere.

Now, Ben Burtt was a CREATOR! He started from scratch, without anyone looking over his shoulder, and built up a new
SFX library. Of course, that was when he was young, and full of piss and wind. Don't know what he's like now, but I did really like the new stuff he created for "Wall-E"!!!!

But, as it seems, there is always one exception for every rule, and Ben Burtt seems to prove that out. Never satisfied to play it safe, always willing to "push the enevelope" and rock that boat! Say what you will, this gentleman really stands out in the biz! :)

Oh, and Olafolaf, that is a GREAT TOS trek site! Thanks.

Yeah but Ben Burtt is also a child who pretty much hates music in film, and whines when he doesn't get his way with mixing/editing.

Williamtaylor1969
10-14-2011, 11:43 PM
Well, this is true of most editors. There is a sort of war going on between SFX and music, always has been. If you listen to "Star Wars", you will find a soundtrack laden with SFX, and minimal music, compared to Empire and Jedi! Burtt went crazy with the effects, and wanted to showcase his talents. Williams was already well established as a composer, well known in the business, and Ben Burtt and his crew not only got noticed, but got the film an special achevement award for best sound effects recording by the academy that year, along with 6 other wins for that film. However, no surprise that the music was the main thing that REALLY stood out in the world. And this film, above and beyond many others, was the film that started soundtrack collecting for alot of people! It was the main reason that I was inspired to jump into this business, and it was also the reason that I started collecting sound effects at all! I had already collected a sizable soundtrack score collection, records from the 1950's and 60's, and when I heard all of the fantastic new SFX that Burtt had created for this movie, I went back and started collecting SFX from my old loves, the classic Scifi movies of the past, as well as TREK!
It was also this movie that motivated Paramount Studios to throw a ton of money to get TREK onto the big screen! Without Star Wars, there never would have been any movies, and possibly not any more TREK TV shows!

true indeed, william. trek fans shouldn't be too quick to hate on star wars (i'm not saying they all do, i love both). star trek would be a minor footnote in tv history, if not for the success of the first star wars movie.

For those of you who don't know, Lyedecker's avatar is of the ORIGINAL Dr. Hannibal Lector, from "Manhunter"! Brian was a very creepy, dark and low key Hannibal Lector, (much better than that hack of an actor who played Lector in "Red Dragon! Well, as to WHO I am, it remains a constant mystery! I mean, who are any of us? (Only a handfull of people on this board REALLY know)

Now, for something completely new and RARE! I did some photoshopping about 10 years ago, under the premise if Jeffrey Hunter hadn't allowed his nasty girlfriend (who later became his wife, I believe) yell at Roddenberry and the others, and forced to look elsewhere for a new captain of the USS Enterprise! These were easy photoshops. I just took the promo photos with Shatner, and just pasted Hunter's head over the body. See what you guys (and gals) think:

Enjoy, William

Got job on the photos William!

You can say what you want about Shatner (being a Dive for instance :P) but imagine Hunter in the Spock-Captain-McCoy-Triangle (story-character-wise, i mean),
the bickering about logic, emotions, decisions and so on. Hunters potrayal as Captain is to reserved, to close to Spock really, that something like that could have
developed. Same is true for Diana Muldaur on TNG, now if TNG had been DS9, Dr. Pulavsky had simply stayed on board together with Crusher, but they didn't want
to spent the money i guess. The regular guest stars on DS9 (Garak, Weyon, Rom, Nog, Admiral Ross and so on) where just kept along (and i imagine some of them
fought for a maintitle screen credit and more money) where kept along too.

Williamtaylor1969
10-24-2011, 04:07 PM
No, I was there in the end of the first season, when they "fired" Andy Probert for being "too difficult to work with" (because of complaints from Rick Sternbach, and Mike Okuda!) and I was there in the end of the second season, when they let Diana Muldaur go for the SAME REASON!!! They couldn't even come up with something new! They knew that Gates was a total bitch, and a primadonna to work with, but she was a sweetheart compared to Diana. So they quickly saw their mistake, and called Gates back into the family really quick!
It was very interesting to me, in the first season, how Andy was #1, Rick was #2, and Mike Okuda was the new kid on the block, at a distant third! When Andy was fired, Rick stayed at #2, and Mikey boy jumped up to #1, head of the art department! He was real good at kissing Herman zimmerman's ass all the time, and I figure that is why he got bumped, and not Rick, who had done the majority of creating new artwork for the entire first season. Andy had done the major stuff, but Rick came up with the most and Mike did only the graphic displays, mostly Klingon. Even though Andy and a fellow named Robert Walker came up with the LCARS design, and DC Fontana was the one who came up with the name, somehow it got transferred over to being called "Okudagrams" or "Okudagraphs"! They should have been called "Probertgraphs" right from the beginning!
Really sticks in my gut, whenever I think about how Mike and Rick stabbed Andy in the back that way!

Kind of like the whole "Christopher Columbus" thing! Why do we celebrate his birthday? If he discovered this country, why is called "America" after "Americo Vespucci" who came here BEFORE Columbus? And Balboa before him, and Leif Erickson before him?
Everyone knows about Edison and his lightbulb, but none of our school kids are taught about "Nicola Tesla", with over 3,000 patents in his lifetime, this man changed the face of America, with the wireless radio (which Marconi stole the patent, and it was taken away from Marconi in 1949), alternating electrial power, the neon light and the florescent tube, the electrical turbine, and most recently WIRELESS electricity! That's correct. A young asian man at MIT found out how to make Tesla's invention work after about 100 years sitting dormant.
Curious enough, there were about 25 inventions that Tesla was working on at the time of his death, and the federal government rushed in, and grabbed ALL of his paperwork and inventions, which have not seen the light of day for over 75 years! Telsa had perfected what the press had called a "Death-ray" weapon, that he tried to fire off to a group of explorers in the arctic circle, but it missed the north pole, and landed in Tunguska, a forest in Russia. What historians called a meteor crash happened on the same day, at the same time as Tesla's death-ray test! Tesla was so fearfull of any harm to human life, he destroyed the invention, and his plans have never been recovered, to his day! You can read more about it here:

Nikola Tesla and Tunguska (http://www.reformation.org/tesla-and-tunguska.html)

Anyway, getting back to TREK.......

Thanks for the comments about the pictures (sorry about the rant)

Kind of like the whole "Christopher Columbus" thing! Why do we celebrate his birthday? If he discovered this country, why is called "America" after "Americo Vespucci" who came here BEFORE Columbus? And Balboa before him, and Leif Erickson before him?
Columbus made it to the New World (actually the Bahamas) ahead of Americo Vespucci. It's called America and not Columbia because he wouldn't admit his mistake that he hadn't made it to Asia. Balboa came after them both (although they were all contemporaries,) and discovered the Pacific (which he reached by marching across Panama.) Magellan would give it its name. None of Leif Erikson's work survived to make it into the historical record by the time people got around to naming things. (And wouldn't be seen until it was too late to change all the maps, signs, legal documents, etc.)

Thanks for posting the comics, Izbot! I'm buying the ongoing monthly, and it's pretty good so far storywise, but the art is ... kinda bad. The artist absolutely CANNOT draw Chris Pine's face, and scarcely seems to even be trying to draw Quinto's.

The Star Trek Encyclopedia [Updated and Expanded Edition] (1999)
Michael and Denise Okuda with Debbie Mirek

My Bible. This is the most recent (3rd) edition which only covers up through the end of DS9 -- nothing about ENT. Hopefully one day it will get a 4th edition. I'd call this the single most essential reference material on Star Trek canon.

Over 745 full color pages in PDF format.

Awesome, thanks! I used to have this, but it has somehow disappeared. Did manage to find the interactive CD-ROM version online somewhere, though. I highly doubt we will get a 4th edition in print. ebook, or interactive DVD/BD-ROM will likely be the format... that would be nice, but it lacks that ease of simply pulling it off the shelf and looking something up. Blah.

William

Classic sci-fi sound effects FTW!
Got some you haven't shared already? :)

And do you happen to have classic construction vehicles sounds (often heard in 1970's movies and TV shows).

Is it possible to rip music from the old DOS game, Star Trek: Judgment Rites? It's very well made and since I recently received "Star Trek: The Original Series Three-Volume Collector's Set" I've been noticing it sounds almost the same as the original recordings. Except for the bit quality, is it possible?

Williamtaylor1969
11-03-2011, 09:58 PM
That is a very interesting question. I would have to say "No" right on the face of the subject, since the DOS games were basically mono audio tracks, of what I remember of the old DOS games.
I have no idea how you could extract any tracks from a computer program that old. But, perhaps someone here would have a better answer other than myself.

THis ISN'T a competition. I see you have started no new threads here...

I sense a bit of annoyance here, which I feel is undeserved. I was just wondering who he is. I think there was once the suggestion that he's James Horner, but I dunno.

I didn't know that I was _required_ to start any new threads. I doubt I have anything to offer, anyway.

Since Page One on this thread looks not to have been updated in some time, and because I don't want to look through 57 pages, may I ask if anyone here has seen an expanded Star Trek: Generations soundtrack? I have one, but with some SF/X and the occasional voice in it.

Yeah, but Horner perhaps has a split personality, you might not even know you're Horner, so you might very well have called yourself. Which would make sense, because we artists have phases of selfhatred, especially about our work, no wonder you asked yourself to destroy these tapes. I must say, William, this is rather a very, very huge self hatred, having to turn into a different personality, i never hated myself that much. Hell, you know
what, i feel better already, thanks for being even sicker than me, this was of great help, thank you!!!! :) :) :)

It's a cheap synth remake of the OST with some other stuff that was not on the OST but not in the film either and synth in origin. I saw this on Amazon a few years ago and was curious about it. I'm glad I never bought it...

Star Trek: First Contact
phoenix edition (resurrected and restored)

(Thread 100719)

The bootleg material floating around the 'net suffered from clipped dynamic range and some other sound anomalies. It included the previously released official album material but it also inherited its errors: digital pops (even in songs).

For this release, the original album material was re-incorporated, so dynamic range could be retained. Audio errors were meticulously repaired. The remaining bootleg portion was adjusted in volume because of differences due to mentioned clipped dynamic range.

Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf was taken from the remastered 1999 edition of their 1968 album The Second.

For the official soundtrack album selection (minus Oobie Doobie) use the playlist /album.m3u.

The cover reminds me of something that may had been put out during the 70's when it was common to see other people do "Cover" versions of either single tracks or complete albums.

The first SW film comes mind here in the UK, a one LP release of music from the film on the old Pickwick label.

That is just great. Thanks, Izzy!

But! They are clearly flying over a city, not in space. =)Nah, they're flying underneath the city. The picture is upside down: The photographer was clearly at the bow of the ship with the planet overhead. And to make matters worse, the text was printed upside down, compounding the mistake. Clearly, the fault lies with the planet for being in the wrong place and the printer for screwing up the text. It's the only rational explanation.

Anyone hear a rumor about an expanded CD release for STIV out before xmas??

Yeah, from Intrada,
"In a wrap-up of the year, we'll have three new releases to offer. One excites me more than the others because it finally brings us all for the first time a complete presentation of one of the truly great film scores of the sixties, in stereo, including never-before-heard alternates, spread out over 2 CDs. It was one of my first really favorite film scores. It still is. Also on our bill is a CD premiere of another sixties gem, this time featuring both the original album plus another 20 minutes of previously unreleased music. And our third title presents yet another popular item, this one written a couple decades later, also being issued for the first time in complete manner and also featuring both new cues and several alternates. Three really cool film scores all getting expanded releases. Artwork and sound samples will be up on the site Monday evening, December 12. I hope you'll find something here to either treat yourself to or add to your holiday wish list!"

"Planning a Comeback" is to strong an expression for hear, it's to calculated and that's just
not who she is, so perhaps she's stretching out her antennas :)
Would be lovely to have her in some movie, i only feel warmth seeing on the screen.
I know, warmth is lame, these are not tender times - guess what, i give a sh*t !

World premiere release of complete Leonard Rosenman score to all-time classic fourth installment of legendary STAR TREK feature-film franchise, starring William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, directed by Nimoy. Intrada presentation is part of current ongoing CD restoration series of complete STAR TREK film soundtracks being overseen by Paramount, this one through courtesy of both Paramount, UMG. (Other titles appear on Film Score Monthly, La-La Land labels.) Time travel, whales feature in this particular movie, Rosenman draws inspiration from both in exciting score. Musical ideas are sometimes energetic, exciting, sometimes cerebral, complex. Rosenman even gives thematic attention to Chekov, a franchise rarity! Complete Intrada CD restoration offers full score with previously unreleased cues, versions appearing on 1986 MCA album plus several alternates including Rosenman's unused take on famous Alexander Courage TV theme. Fun to hear Rosenman's own signature brass "pyramid" at climax of Courage's melody! CD even includes wild "I Hate You" by Kirk Thatcher, Mark Mangini that annoys Star Trek crew on San Francsico bus ride. Production by Lukas Kendall, mix & assembly by Mike Matessino plus definitive liner notes by Jeff Bond round out stellar package, itself designed by Joe Sikoryak to comfortably fit in with other STAR TREK feature soundtrack restorations. Leonard Rosenman conducts."

2. Stewie Griffin Sings Rocket Man on Family Guy [mp3]
3. William Shatner Sings Rocket Man (1978) [Video]

Here's a little homemade 'single' ripped from video footage. Shatner recently re-recorded Rocket Man on Seeking Major Tom. This version has never been released on audio and was only performed on the TV special The 1978 Science Fiction Film Awards. A parody of Shatner's memorable performance appeared in an early episode of Family Guy with Stewie Griffin in a shot-by-shot-note-for-note tribute. I've included audio of that performance here as well as the video footage of Shatner's version. Sorry about the quality, this is ripped from videotape.

Very nice! :) You have a picture of the "Outer Limits" episode where Shatner is an astronaut who goes to Venus (or some planet like that) and gets raped by a plant-creature, a "Cholofiend", and comes home with cold hands, and tramatic stress sydrome, hehehehe.

But a nice addition, all the same!

Thanks, William

Raped by a plant creature, eh? No wonder they made Kirk chasing so many woman:
Shatner is a self-denying herbasexual!!!
