"Trekette", I really LOVE that term! :)
In another really "off topic" topic (hehehehehe) I really HATE all the songs today that use the "robot voice" in the song. I feel like I'm in "Star tours" and the droids are singing to me. Plus, every time I hear a song using the robot voice, I wonder how crappy the singer's real voice must be, if he has to use that robot voice on EVERY song! :)

02-07-2013, 09:40 PM
When I use the site search, I get limited results, and sometimes I find what I had forgotten I was interested in looking for, so it is "useful". One thing about the search results that drives me crazy..er, is the 1 of 244 results which continues on the next page, and the next page say it "can't" find my search results. IT was the one that told me that it had more results, so why lie to me.
As for the Google search, I never thought of that way, I am still learning the internet after 13 years(they keep moving and losing sites), so I will give it a try.

Hey, does anybody have Star Trek: Concordance book? If anybody does, post it here.
Ah, the good old Concordance by Bjo Trimble, the grandma of Star Trek fandom! :) Yes, it was one of the first non-fiction books about Star Trek I ordered from the USA (I'm living in Germany), and it gave me great pleasure and insights the first few years when I became a trek fan. It's the very first edition from Ballantine (1976) with the main saucer section of the Starship Enterprise on the cover, which can be turned around to find the pages for specific episodes, which was pretty cool! And, it's still available on amazon:
Star Trek Concordance - A Fully Illustrated, Comprehensive Directory To The Tv Series, Including Casts, Plot Synopses...: Bjo Trimble: 9780345251374: Amazon.com: Books (
http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Concordance-Illustrated-Comprehensive/dp/B000KOBLAY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1360320365&sr=8-1&keywords=Star+Trek+Concordance)
My edition is pretty much worn out by now, I have read it over and over again. It was a labor of love and invaluable for any trek fan in its time, when all you got were the fanzines and nothing else, no official books, compendia or anything else!
I don't know if anybody has made a scan of it yet and has put it online, or may be willing to do it now and here, but if time allows and there is interest here, I may do it myself sometime! But first, I'll wait for any possible upload of an already existing scan for a few days...

I had thought that the original concordance was totally blasted for being less than accurate, and I saw a posting from "the okudas" that said any true trek fan should just "disregard" the concordance by B. Trimble as being non-canon. That was the main reason that the okuda's and sternbach came up with the star trek encyclopedia both in book form and computer program, which I have both.
But I do remember buying that at a covention in NY in the late 70's or maybe 1980, and I just loved to look at that. I would like to get a scanned copy as well.
Thanx

Well, that may very well be the case! But I haven't read that book for decades, and memory fades away... and for a German trekker, all those facts and synopses were most interesting, especially when you consider that in Germany, in the late 70ies/early 80ies, there had been shown only 39 episodes, so half of the show was completely unknown to me!

Ah, well...I've never had much success with searches. I always seem to pick the wrong terms (they make sense to me but apparently not to anyone else) and the results I get are often either crap or worse than useless. I guess the failure to find post numbers and page numbers is merely a logical extension of my bad luck.

Well, if I copy and past your search terms it does seem to work in Google. Doesn't seem to give the same type of result in the forums search, from Bing or Blekko. Hmm. I hate Google and I try to avoid them but I guess they might have an advantage over other service in that respect. At least, if I can get the correct search terms.

Using URL www.google.com automatically takes you to your country's domain, in your case google.de.
In the bottom right corner it should say "Google.com". Click on that link to get the US version - it will bypass the redirection. Also you can get the UK one with www.google.co.uk. You can do this for other countries too.
http://www.google.cn/ etc... That way you can see what others see.

Here's volume 4. I will do 3 but we are looking into track titles at the moment, and possibly renaming the tracks as they should be. However, I digress. These are the covers of SIMILITUDE. I quite like the front image on this one. I don't know how relevant it is, as once again, I have not seen it, but I think my composition looks quite nice.

Each Country has it's own search requirements (the Country Government sets these) except the USA (Our Constitution 1st Amendment forbids our Government and business's from restricting these things) so your search is going to be restricted by whatever they(your Government) deems unsuitable! sucks and another reason I love the good old USA.

Forget the external unit! it's way to slow, internal is faster and you have less problems. If you have SATA ports on your motherboard I would recommend the Lite-On LightScribe 24X SATA DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive IHAS424-98 it's a good unit, just make sure you write down the serial no. before you install the unit into your computer, because you will need that number to update the units firmware, you can get the updates from lightscribe web site. This unit goes for around $80.00 dollars plus tax. I almost forgot! if your going to use 2 drives and are using windows xp you differently need to update the firmware, because xp cannot read the serial no.'s and will disable one of the drives until you update both drives firmware. Good luck....

Yeah you can't replace a thing on mac's! one of the reasons I will never use mac anything.
From what I have been reading lightscribe on a mac is very slow...something like 20 minutes per side of a DVD for a total of 40 minutes per disc!

I have now completed "These are the Voyages". I liked doing this one as it is a TNG crossover (TNG being my favorite Trek). I also got rid of the slight tummy that Marina had in the third picture on the back (not that she didn't look great anyway), as she is my favorite. Marina grew up 15 miles from where I used to live, so another reason for her to be my fav' :D
Anyway enough of Marina (if that is possible), Hope you like the covers. Had to recreate the front image from 3 separate screen caps so the background, behind the Enterprise, is complete.

Volume 3 "Regenerations" covers now available, so get'em while they're hot they're lovely.
Now, I thought the first time the Borg were known by the Federation was when Q sent the Enterprise D so far into space that the Borg came to our universe. So (not having seen the show) how comes the crew of the NX-01 met them? Did some one not check the Trek bible?. Anyway hope you like these covers. Going to do the suites next. The enterprise D was the first to encounter the Borg, but what i think they wanted here was to use the Borg and say "yes this is still star trek" and also use the idea that the borg did visit the earth earlier and the federation covered it up
A bit like real life in some respect, cover it up and hope nobody notices

Actually, it goes like this. The Enterprise E confronts the Borg Cube in First Contact. Before the Cube's Destruction, it ejects a sphere, also shot down. This was during Cochran's imminent first contact with the Vulcans. Enterprise as a series takes place about 100 years later. An arctic research team finds the mentioned Borg Sphere locked in the ice, along with a number of frozern Borg. The team takes the Borg back to the arctic base for research. Said Borg regenerate and infect the research team, modifying their transport ship. They head off planet and head towards the Delta Quandrant. Archer is sent to go after them. He stops them, but not before the Borg send a transmission directed deep into the Delta Quadrant. T'Pol and Archer discuss this in his cabin. She says it could take 100 years for the transmission to get there, if ever. Archer muses that they have just postponed the inevitable. It is implied that this transmission was picked up by a Cube which starts toward Earth, and this is the Cube first encountered by Picard when Q sent them into far space.
So Regeneration ties into both First Contact and Next Gen, but the question still remains. Why did Picard not know about any of this? It is said that in a speech, Cochrane mentioned the Borg trying to stop first contact and the humans from the future who stopped them. Apparently no one believed him and he later recanted. But, Archer found a copy of the speech easily enough. Starfleet has all the scans, photos and crashed wreckage from the Sphere. And with Archer's mission so well documented, how was it not something every officer since likely heard about? As far as timeline, no reason was given. The "real" reason of course is that Next Gen and First Contact were written far before Enterprise was even conceived of let alone produced. They tried to fit the story into the timeline. But, that one big question remains and sort of mars the episode for me. I did think it was a fun one to watch though.
Oh, and Phlox was infected, and then found a cure to kill the nanos. I would think THAT would be on record somewhere. But it took many hours for his assimilation, saying they were having trouble with his immune system. Maybe/ But every other affected victim seems to transform within minutes.....

There you have it. With so many mistakes in data storage the Vulcans were right to stop humans from wandering out to space.
And there you have it. The only guy who can retrieve data in this universe is Captain Archer. He is a true Captain that one. Picard really only could miss the same data later. I mean look at him.

I'm Just looking at doing the extras disc. and I was searching about and on trekcore I found some tracks from Horizon to download there. Unfortunately they were only 56kbs. However one of the tracks called Horizon theme, was the same length as the Horizon Suite that Amanda had on the Enterprise thread. Now maybe it's just me and my old ears, but I've listened to the 56kbs version and then to the 320kbs, and I can't hear any difference. Could the 320 be a re-encode of the 56kbs version? Does anyone have any software that would be able to analyze the track and see if the frequencies on consistent with a 56kbs file or a 320kbs file. if they are the same I was going to include the other 5 Horizon tracks I've found, as strangely they do not sound horrendous as I would have expected for files of such a bitrate. I could then include these files with my covers. I am therefore going to hang fire on the cover for the time being, to see if these files should be included.
Hope some clever sound mixing type person out there can help.

I have those tracks too. I thought they were more "clips" than full tracks. Originally posted on the composer's site, he was made to take them down, but instead put up that suite, or so I'm told.

The way I decided to see it was that the Borg contaminated the timeline once they were discovered in Regeneration. Everything after that was altered, since the Borg were never supposed to be found then. The signal the Borg sent wasn't what originally brought them to our quadrant, it was Q. Now that was changed, they had the signal. Starfleet now also had Archer's Enterprise logs, so certain technology was changed. We never saw how Picard's Enterprise was changed by this, but it would explain why the pre-Nero starfleet uniforms and tech looked totally different before the timeline was changed again.
Of course that's my own personal fanwank, but it would neatly explain all the stuff they did in Enterprise and nuTrek.

As much as I would liek to belive that the writing was that well thought-out and that the plot was so well conceived, I'm afraid it wasn't. We all have a need to try and fill plot holes, and Star trekis very important to most of us. Unfortunatley, bad writing is sometimes just bad writing as much as I wish this weren't the case. I still found regeneration tob e enjoyable, especially for Enterprise, but it was imperfect.

Pardon my jumping in here...I never watched ST:E beyond catching a few minutes of it at a time. For one thing, I was offended that they chose to go with a ship design which could not be integrated into the TOS/NG time line and was perhaps even (at least from my perspective) deliberately designed in violation of the established history of the Enterprise linage (getting off my soap box now). From your time line, it would appear that ST:E was in fact (or at least it could be argued that it was) an alternate time line which may have more to do with the JJA timeline than the Roddenberry timeline. Is that your basic assumption here or am I reading too much into that?

Well, there is an answer, of sorts! Star Trek ENTERPRISE takes place BEFORE the United Federation of Planets came about, if I remember my STE correctly! Although it was stated that "Spock was the first Vulcan to join Starfleet", he could have actually been the first Vulcan to join the Federation, not Starfleet, that would go to T'pol! And since the configuration of UFP starships on display on the wall in the "Next Generation" universe could have been only from the UFP beginning to then! Does that make any sense? :)
I don't recall any mention of the UFP in STE at all, but I'm not an expert, never saw all the episodes, so there you go!

Except that the displays of the Enterprise history go all the way back to sailing vessels. All this seems to reinforce the "justification" for ST:E being inconsistent with TOS/TNG is it being an "alternative time line", albeit an 'after the fact' justification 'cuz they wanted to make a show using the Star Trek name without being bound to anything previously established in any version of Star Trek. Sorta like a "Murder, She Wrote" episode where one of J.B. Fletchers novels was turned into a movie that in no way resembled the book. When she asked why they had paid for the rights to her book only to chuck the entire storyline, she was told that all they wanted was the title. Sounds like the reasoning behind both ST:E and ST:JJA.

I think I am going to toss my hat into the ring on this conversation. If I remember my Original Series 'canon' correctly, Spock was the first Vulcan to enroll in and graduate from Starfleet Academy, thus making him the 'first' Vulcan to officially join Starfleet. T'Pol, (again this is based on what I can remember), was essentially offered a commission in Starfleet when she broke with the Vulcan High Command and decided to remain with the Enterprise when Archer and crew headed into the Expanse to find the Xindii (Season 2 Finale and Season 3 Premier). If I am wrong, I welcome the corrections.

Get back on that soap box lad. While changing channels and coming across Enterprise, just keep going. If you stay to watch you may end up with Stockholm Syndrome. For some reason, when Guantanamo is mentioned, I imagine Malcolm McDowell with eye lid locks being Enterprise-boarded.

I too can understand some of the plot holes, especially when it came to the ship design. I think it is a shame that when they aired the finale of Enterprise, that in one of the scenes that took place with Riker and Troi on the Enterprise-D wasn't placed in the conference room where they could have added the NX-01 to the mural wall of previous Enterprise's.

As a general Trek fan, of course I have some beef with Enterprise's design concepts, and non-canon plotting. But, I have learned to get past that somewhat, and find I truly do enjoy the series and cast. I thnk the most successful merging with a previous series they did was In A Mirror Darkly, which seemed perfectly plausible to me.

I just got myself a sample from DS9 Box and mixed it with an existing bootleg, i believe done by sonic adventure, but i am not sure. The second cut is way to rough, but thats how it is.
This is from Our Man Bashir, close to the climax, were Bashir and Garak run through the caves, arguing.
Enjoy this rough edit, giving you a preview of the full track on DS9 Box, only with better music near the beginning, then sonic adventure (?) could provide in his bootled (DVD with SFX)

That's weird, because it sounds just like what happens with satellite networks. Have you considered 3g or 4g? They're not prone to weather conditions. Even a decent 3g with HSPA+ should give you up to 21 Mbps (real world around half!). Worth checking out is the HUAWEI E3131 usb stick (works with XP onwards) - it's so damn cheap yet brilliant. All you need then is the sim card from a company that provides a good service in your area.

Since there's not been a reply to this devilish query...
There's a program out there called Audio Comparer by Bolide Software which can compare audio files and return a percentage - I'm not sure what this percentage represents, but it can be used as a guide if nothing else.
Something like what you're talking about should return a similarity-percentage of around 94% if the 320 file was genuinely coded from the original source. The only snag is that this software is shareware and the trial lasts about a month. You might want to try it regardless.
I'm not aware of a program that's capable of discerning quality per se. I think your best bet is to place both tracks in to the crucible of sound quality, i.e. turn on your ears and play both pieces through a quality hi-fi at a respectable volume. If there is a difference it should be immediately apparent. If not, try re-endcoding the 320 to 56 yourself and see what that sounds like. From experience 56kbps sounds like shit. Btw, check the sample rate. Ideally it should be 44.1KHz for CD rips (48K for DVD rips). Anything less is best avoided.

There's no way a 56kbps mp3 should sound like a 320kbps, unless it was intentional of course. I just tested mp3pro at 56kbps and it's easily identifiable. At 96kbps, mp3pro's upper limit for compact files, it's getting a lot better though. From experience, Xing mp3 encoders are not good.

I do have two other little tracks. The single "Theme From Deep Space 9", and After 3:00 am At Quarks. I can also lay hands on the Voyager theme single. Though as I type this I realize none of them have anything to do with Enterprise. Still early, need me some coffee.
If you want to look at it this way, the tracks are not on the archive I posted. You would have to include them in your package.

I know there isn't much on the DS9 single that wasn't on the regular CD (or am i wrong?) but i would still love to get a hold of both that one and the Voyager single :) Any chance you could rip them to flac (or any other lossless)? And i know i will be flamed by some for that being a flac request, so... sorry in advance, but i would still love it ;)

No, you're not wrong. You're right:
The DS9 single CD was two tracks long.
Both tracks were indeed on the "Emissary" CD:
"Theme From Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", which was a soft rock version
"Passage Terminated" which was different compared to the cue from the score of the same name. This was more of a stand-alone synthesized piece.
EDIT:
I'll rip my copy of the single CD for you.

Here's a photo I just took with my phone. It's of the disc itself. I don't have the cover anymore so the disc sits in a wallet.
I don't have the original "Emissary" CD anymore. Only a CD-R copy of it.
---------- Post added at 05:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:31 AM ----------
Regarding that DS9 release, there's only one track on it I hope is there, and hope is without sound effects:
The season 4 main title from the season 4 premiere "The Way Of The Warrior".
It was only played once in that episode, and not even in re-runs on TV. It's intact on the DVD. It's unique in its orchestration to the other versions of the title theme that were previously released on CD. It's the one holdout.
I'm hoping it's the "alternate mix" on disc 3 and doesn't have the Runabout / docking clamp release / engine / wormhole sounds in it.

I think the 1st track on the first disc is the only one with sound effects, at least I hope it is. I don't understand why they do this, I can't stand sound fx and dialogue over the music on a score album. If I want to listen to all that I'll actually watch an episode. I hate the first track on LLL's TNG set because the dialogue and effects are included, just no need for that on a soundtrack IMO.

Quoted for truth. Exactly. No point in putting what is basically a "rip" of the theme right out of an episode and sticking it onto the CD, especially for labels dedicated to preserving and presenting the music itself.

Not done anything on the covers today as it is Valentines day. Me and my other half had a lovely meal and watched Argo tonight (very good film) but I plan to finish "The Suites & Extras" Covers tomorrow. I am then going to do a cover for "Broken Bow". Amanda asked if I'd do this, and I agreed, so if any of you want it to match the rest of the CDs. I'm doing it as Volume 0 so that it can fit into the set but not be missed if you didn't want to use it. So that just leaves me to say

So we now have the covers for the Suites and Extras. I have included the short cues from Horizon in the RAR file. Despite their incredibly low bit rate, the quality is not that bad, at least not what I'd expect from a 56kbs file. Let me know what you think. If there are enough people who do not want those short cues, I can do another back cover minus those tracks.

Just downloaded the mp3s from your latest post and gave 'em a go - they do sound 56kayish to me. Looking inside the files, there are references to "LAME3.93". This is a good performer, but it's nothing special. I'm puzzled, as you probably are, why someone would recode 56kbps files into 320kbps. I (repeatedly) applied an audio filter to enhance/recover the first track, but to no avail.

It's differently not a NASA patch, because it would have an STS- number (the last shuttle mission was STS-135 [Atlantis] July 21, 2011) and the crew names on it, if it was a US military patch it would have the Squadron Number and Name on it! The colors on the patch are French, but again it would be in French not English, the aircraft looks like an F18 and the French don't have the Hornet or the Super Hornet, and it's not a Mirage 2000 or the Rafale-French (Super Fighter) either...I would say it is a home made patch. I hope this helps my friend....

I think the set is sold out then, if you cannot order it anymore. Your best chance now to find a box is ebay or any internet-shop. I prefer searching for things like this with google. Type in Deep Space Nine Soundtrack Collection 4CD or something like that.
I too am still looking for the box-set to be uploaded here in the forums. Unfortunately, my money for this month is already almost gone and ordering from the US to Europe is mucho expensive. The local customs als want money for almost every packet, even if it is as small as a coffee-mug.

Ok. I say this every time, but here's my two cents on this. We all are eagerly waiting for it to be uploaded. We all know we should buy it, we all know some can't. SO, lets just skip that section of the program and relax. I am sure it will go up soon. And, I already checked with Sanico and she said posting it is fine, though while the TOS box is still in print I can't post that. But, DS9 is fair game. If you mean "The Complete Scores Project", then yes they are rips. Avalar? I think does them. He did the original series, DS9, Next Gen and some Voyager. And the animated series. They are good rips, and only contain minimal fx, but are rips nonetheless. The TOS box kind of renders the original series rips moot.

The Pentagon shuttles are still in service. With that patch having five sides, I wonder...
The Pentagon shuttle program is not the same one your thinking of! The Air Force officially terminated the space shuttle program at Vandenberg AFB on December 26, 1989, and they only used one NASA shuttle, the Enterprise! but for fitting test, since Enterprise was never built to inter space to begin with and it was deemed to costly to retrofit her for operational use...what your thinking of is the Boeing X-37B Space Plane, which looks nothing like the NASA Shuttle's, plus there has never been a shuttle launch from Vandenberg AFB. The X-37B (so far anyway) has been launched from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, but did land at Vandenberg AFB. There has never been any DoD or Pentagon shuttles, just the NASA fleet or I should say ex-fleet.

@Pearlcorderman
That's pretty awesome and nice choice of covers, too!
Thank you HansOlo999 :)
VERY nice. Thank you. (Now, to trick...eerrrr..CONVINCE you to do Voyager Caretaker.........) :D
I'm sure I can give that a go. If there is a link to the thread I will give it a go. Was that an official release?
@ Pearlcorderman: I am wondering if you are planning on doing any of the other episode bootleg scores that are out there? Or would you be willing to share your knowledge for others to try their hand at creation?
PM'd you.
what other boots? He did all of the Next Gen sets, and all of the Enterprise sets. There are no others, unless you count dvd rips with fx...
I must admit, I tend not to do covers for ones with SFX's as it spoils the music, so I don't tend to download those tracks.

Then how come i just glided past Adrastea, huh? You ain't working for the Pentagon, don't spread false information, Captain Scott, that's our job and doing so won't get you on the pay roll, sorry 'bout that.
:D

If you mean "The Complete Scores Project", then yes they are rips. Avalar? I think does them. He did the original series, DS9, Next Gen and some Voyager. And the animated series. They are good rips, and only contain minimal fx, but are rips nonetheless. The TOS box kind of renders the original series rips moot.
But WHERE can i find IZBOTS Complete Scores, it drives me crazy!

Ah, that's just to bad. I got some of the TOS Complete Core Project stuff, but i neglected to even search for Enterprise and that show has such great music. I thought very differently at the time, i was opionioated really and now i really love the style of Tyler/Ray-Bunch. Damn!

Here. Some DS9 links still work. I dunno if he ever got to Enterprise. I only see DS9 as of the page linked. I can back track a bit.

I saw that the complete scores project was discussed, so a little heads-up:
1. My accounts were hacked a while back and i can't even access the Blog where i originally posted the rips or the e-mail address i used.
2. This was around the same time when many of the file hosting sites were shut down and most of my files were also deleted, so i was reluctant to pay nearly 100$ to renew my premium subscription.
3. We are talking about approx. 15 GB of music and more than 5000 tracks and with my crappy upload speed at the time, it seemed hopeless that i would ever get all the stuff back up.
4. And if that wasn't enough, i continued my university studies after a significant hiatus, so i barely had time to listen to the newly released stuff, let alone continuing the project.
+1 (and maybe the main reason) To be honest I got tired with it. I think with one or two exceptions i ripped every score that had memorable music, the rest is really just generic tapestry stuff. By the end it became more and more like a chore, especially with TAS, which I only did because of the large amount of requests.
Since that things have improved somewhat, and the new DS9 release and the Enterprise album on the horizon gave me renewed zeal, so if there is a significant demand, i could start slowly re-uploading the stuff i have on my hdd. I'm even considering starting a new blog which would be heavier on other shows that never got music releases. I would like to complete SG-1's Ori story arc (which I think is one of the best TV music ever from the late Joel Goldsmith), as well some SG-U, create a library of the Boston Legal cues, i have some candidates for unreleased Fringe stuff, plus several others. As far as Trek goes I have the complete rips for the following episodes.

In the meantime i have a compilation with some of my favorite ds9 cues that are not featured on the La-La Land release. Mostly Chattaway/Bell stuff (Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang, Tears of the Prophets, For the Death, Empok Nor, Things Past, The Begotten, Rocks and Shoals. It has only a couple of McCarthy cues from episodes like Fascination and the Magnificent Ferengi, and a few source cues like the Federation anthem or the Klingon Opera by Bell. Plus a few extra tracks from One Little Ship, Sacrifice Of Angel. I'll try to find a reliable file sharing service (I'm open for suggestions) and I'll try to upload it in a few days.

@real.altovar - I loved your blog...downloaded all the files, and have still got them all on my HD's too.

Gamefront is okay, but after a couple of months at most, they need re-uploading.

If we only had ds9 sound effects without music one could fiter them out in the tracks, software IS that powerful, a few tweaks and one might almost not notice any quality loss.

02-17-2013, 01:42 PM
... and i have to say that there are quite a few of us that can't use Gamefront at all. Don't know when that started and what changed but it will not work at all. Too bad because i had good speeds from there before... :(
Zippyshare is what i use most of the time. The only drawback is a filesize limit of 200 MBs, but then splitting is not a big problem and surely a lot smaller problem than not being able to download at all.
GE.TT is another one i have tried and it has good speeds. Problem there is that you have to register in order to be able to upload more than 200 MBs (counting EVERYTHING you have uploaded)

An official "Stargate Universe" soundtrack would be great. That score is so awesome. Lightyears ahead of the other Stargate soundtracks. But given how shitty they've been with soundtrack releases in that franchise I'm not holding my breath :(

Yeah but these were simply re-cuts or re-mixes, okies, you need to have an ear to know were to cut and how to bring together again, but that's rather simple.
But the DVD stuff? They are, hm, infested with SFX, i can't just cut, i need to keep the whole track and rubber away within what is given. And i have nice plugins which with i can accomplish that, but the difficulty is that i hit exactly those "notes" and no others. And i can't just sweep a whole track, i have to do it which every single instance of SFX :/ There is another trick though, i can elevate the sound of the instruments, so the SFX more or less vanishes behind the music (right now its the other way around), but then again, the instruments mustn*t be in tune with the SFX. Example: I can rid of an explosion if there strings, but i can't get rid of it if there are drums.

I can understand that. My limited audio editing capabilities extend to removing unwanted hiss etc. I sample the hiss then import that sample into the noise reduction filter to remove it. However you can then loose some top end, and trying to get rid of rumble from a record deck means the audio then lacks punch, so it's then a manual process to not eliminate it, but reduce it without effecting the music to much.
Do you have any good filter sets that are DirectX as my editing program uses these? At my age I don't think I could learn a new audio editing suite. ;)

PCM, you are an artist 1st Class! You work looks better than the Official released covers that are out there. How about a TOS set, if you are bored and need something to do. :)

Scott
You are wrong, I saw the military Space Shuttle launch in Moonraker, and it wasn't the Enterprise. Go,USA!;)
An official "Stargate Universe" soundtrack would be great. That score is so awesome. Lightyears ahead of the other Stargate soundtracks. But given how shitty they've been with soundtrack releases in that franchise I'm not holding my breath :(
I'm not sure how likely that would be now either, without Joel around anymore to try to push it :-(

I'm not sure I'd class myself as an artist. If people want covers for TOS then I can do some. would people want separate covers or covers for the multi disc boxes? Or even at all?

Yeah, there is that. But there was also an unexpected (and beyond awesome) soundtrack for "Space Above and Beyond". 15 years after the show's end and despite Shirley Walker's death in 2006. It was made by the people who worked with her when scoring the series.
So I think MGM's dismal interest and treatment of soundtracks is more of an issue than Goldsmith's death.

Au contraire, mon ami, if you do something "Artistic", then you are considered an artist, even if you are not good at it. If you do something fantastic (as in this case) and then you get PAID for it, then you are a "Professional artist" (an amature just paints, but the professional gets PAID!!) Sad, but it seems that it's always about the money.
And, in my humble opinion, I think that some TOS covers would be SMOKIN'! Hehehehehe :)

Last time I saw the shuttle, it was already restored, so I have no idea what they are talking about. A San Diego man named Steve (something, never knew his last name) had custody of it, and had really done a bangup job fixing it up. Steve was a boat builder, and had restored it to 90% of the original shape. Needed a better paint job, and needed someone to recreate the inside, since it had no inside, and you had to duck down when walking inside (even "shorty" Shatner had to duck down, hehehehe) or you would "bonk" your head! :)
Would really love to know how it looks today!

Doug Drexler posted an update last year on his blog about the Galileo:
She Needs Our Help! (

They were successful in raising the funds to purchase the original Galileo, and are apparently in the process of restoring it again. The prior owners let it rot. Seems to have been its lot in life... Hopefully Master Shipwrights will finally do the job right and it can be properly displayed for the public.

Steve whatshisface was a shipbuilder down in San Diego, and had it stored in a "shipyard" down there! Perhaps there are two pieces of info that have gotten mixed up???

So opinion question time:
Part 1: After listening to the DS9 scores does anyone else think that McCarthy's score for Season Four's episode, The Visitor, is almost as good as the suite from Next Generation's Season Five episode, The Inner Light by Chattaway?
Part 2: Any ideas on any pieces in the same vein as these two exists in the other series?

I was going to make a thread for this, but there are enough DS9 / Trek threads as it is right now and this is pretty minor so it doesn't really warrant its own thread.
I've assembled a "Deep Space Nine" Theme archive, which takes (almost) every version of the DS9 theme, all of them official and not third-party re-recordings (which are all terrible and aren't worth listening to so they aren't included) and places them here for listening. Some of them are DVD sourced, some of them from the various official album recordings, some are television broadcast-sourced.
18 tracks, and here are the details for each:
1. Seasons 1-3 Main Title (no sound effects, album)
2. Seasons 1-3 'Majestic' commercial bumper (TV sourced)
3. Seasons 1-3 End Title (short version, album)
4. Seasons 1-3 'Action' commercial bumper (TV sourced)
5. Seasons 1-3 Main Title (with sound effects, album)
6. Seasons 1-3 'Noble' commercial bumper (TV sourced)
7. Seasons 1-3 End Title (long version, DVD sourced)
8. Seasons 1-3 Main Title (custom edit: the "Single version" edited down to resemble the TV version)
9. Seasons 4-7 Main Title (no sound effects, album)
10. Seasons 4-7 'Action' commercial bumper (TV sourced)
11. Seasons 4-7 Main Title (from the season 4 premiere "The Way Of The Warrior". This is ONLY version of the DS9 main title that remains unreleased on any album. DVD sourced)
12. Seasons 4-7 'Noble' commercial bumper (TV sourced)
13. Seasons 4-7 End Title (album)
14. Seasons 4-7 Main Title (alternate with synth drums, album)
15. Seasons 4-7 'Majestic' commercial bumper (TV sourced)
16. Seasons 4-7 End Title (alternate with synth drums, album)
17. Theme from "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" Single Version (album)
18. DS9 - After 3am at Quark's solo piano (album)
With the exceptions being the TV and DVD sourced tracks, it's in lossless.

The reason I said "almost" every version of the theme, is because I did not include two of the end credit variants: A super-short one for season 1, and a short one for seasons 4-7.
Second link makes use of some of these different versions of the title theme.
These are mp4 video files of the opening credit sequence, just to give listeners an idea of what these variants would have sounded like if they were actually used on the show.
Includes the following:
DS9 commercial bumpers (all six as one video, which I uploaded to YouTube a month or so ago). Only 27 seconds.
Season 1 main title (no effects)
Season 1 main title (single version edit)
Season 7 main title (alternate synth drum mix)
Season 7 main title (no effects)
Season 7 main title (Way Of The Warrior mix)
The videos are cropped to a faux-widescreen format.

I'm also considering doing some sequences of video using various cues similar to those "Batman Begins" / "The Dark Knight" videos I had put up a while back.

I know, that's why I labeled it as "album" sourced.
As I've typed this out I'm working on sequences for "What You Leave Behind".
