I still have TAS to watch. Half way through season 1 so far.
It’s very different but still loveable.
Once I finish TAS, I’ll re-watch the films again.
And queue up Netflix for TNG. :awsm:
I have just spent a fair bit of time re-watching some TNG Favourites… and some of the ds9.

I was never really a fan of the animated series. It never really made me excited. But one good thing (for me) was it had the original cast.
I think that’s the largest appeal for me.
I get to see the team work again.
I was reading that it’s partially cannon for some episodes.
It wasn’t intended to be cannon. Just a cartoon.
TNG I can’t wait to start. Used to watch episodes when I could back in highschool.
The ending of ENTERPRISE really annoyed me lol.
*happy*
i was thinking about starting a thread called "Trekkie Corner" or something, but this suites me just fine.
We come in Peace. 😉

i can’t get into it either. I will keep it, of course, it is Trek after all, but I cannot connect.
no trek without the squire, naturally. your presence is agreeable, as Spock might have said.

Well, just a cartoon it is, and at the same time you could argue it is not "just" a cartoon. Besides from the fact that it features the complete voice cast (sans Walter Koenig, alas, because the budget was too limited to include him, so they offered him a script job instead), it also had many of the original writers, including the much under-rated and un-sung hero D.C. Fontana, who, as script supervisor and producer of the animated series, preserved much of the continuity and quality of the live action series. Other writers, who worked for the Original before, included Samuel A. Peoples, former trek director Marc Daniels (director of "The Doomsday Machine" and many other eps.), Margaret Armen, "Harry Mudd" creator Stephen Kandel, David P. Harmon, and last but not least, "Tribbles" expert David Gerrold, who addressed the canon discussion and the script quality in the the Animated Series in an interview he gave years ago:
Star Trek: The Animated Series (http://www.startrekanimated.com/tas_david_gerrold.html)
Writer-producer D. C. Fontana also discussed the TAS Canon issue in 2007 when giving IDW Comics (present owner of the trek license) an interview:
IDW: In today’s world, especially in a property like Star Trek, that has seen stories told in movies, TV episodes, novels, comic books, video games, e-books and even Internet-based fan media, too, the question of what constitutes “canon” is very much an ongoing debate. The episode you wrote for Star Trek: the Animated Series, “Yesteryear,” is the only one that contains material that is considered canon. What makes it canonical while the others aren’t?
DOROTHY FONTANA: I suppose "canon" means what Gene Roddenberry decided it was. Remember, we were making it up as we went along on the original series (and on the animated one, too). We had a research company to keep us on the straight and narrow as to science, projected science based on known science, science fiction references (we didn’t want to step on anyone’s exclusive ideas in movies, other TV shows, or printed work). They also helped prevent contradictions and common reference errors. So the so-called canon evolved in its own way and its own time. For whatever reason, Gene Roddenberry apparently didn’t take the animated series seriously (no pun intended), although we worked very hard to do original STAR TREK stories and concepts at all times in the animated series. What freed us there was the fact that we could do environments and aliens without the constraints of sets, makeup and costumes that would have been difficult to do in live action. The research company also worked on this series, again to keep us within rules we had set up in the original series and to keep references in terms of science/science fiction etc. accurate.
IDW: And a follow-up to that question, what does “canon” mean to you? Do fans put too great an emphasis on what is canon instead of just what makes a good story?
DOROTHY FONTANA: I like a good story— but there are certain basic ground rules established which I don’t think can be easily tossed aside. I really hated it when one of the features (STAR TREK V) came up with a half brother for Spock when I had always insisted he had no other siblings. But I guess it isn’t "canon" if I wrote it. Go figure.
[End of Interview]
The Squire says:
If you don’t know the Animated Series yet, watch it with an open mind. And if you know it already and have ignored it after a few episodes, or even after watching all 22 episodes, please reconsider and give it a second chance! 🙂

Here’s my trivia question, from that thread’s first post:
Last night I watched a 1970s TV-movie that had the highest ratings of its time, and three of its actors (all male) had been guest stars in original STAR TREK episodes. This TV-movie later became a series.
Can you name it, and the three TREK guest stars?

[in Trelane’s high-pitched, annoying childish voice:]
Why? Why just ONE? I want THREE!! Look, I was the ONLY one who knew it! I want THREE! I want them NOW!!
As I mentioned someplace else here last week, I’m currently re-watching Star Trek: Voyager on DVD, after going through all of Star Trek: Enterprise and then Star Trek: The Next Generation on Blu-Ray earlier this year. I’ve been watching since I was knee-high and have done everything save buying a uniform (spent far too much money on Diamond Select starships, written my own series, hunted down rare soundtracks and gone to multiple exhibitions).
Grew up with The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager on the BBC, 6pm Wednesdays and Sundays. Caught up with the original series years later.
While I adore the cinematic adventures of Kirk & Co. there’s a downside to being a child of the late 80s / early 90s in that (like older Doctor Who episodes) my interest in the television show with the shaky walls, bright uniforms and terrible special effects started to vanish as I grew up and my suspension of disbelief started to shrink. I respect the original series for the groundwork it created but it was a product of the 1960s and I’m unfortunately not (although I like the 1966 Batman, but that’s because it’s intentionally ridiculous and not trying to be a serious drama). Fortunately, I adore Star Trek: The Motion Picture and everything that came afterwards, so the impact of things like Spock turning up in "Unification" [TNG] and Scotty in "Relics" [TNG] isn’t lost on me.
I respect the 2009 reboot and Star Trek Into Darkness, but view them as what they are, namely a different take. If it had destroyed the "prime" timeline, I’d have been a bit more disappointed but I can count myself a fan of Pine, Quinto and the others because they’re off, doing their own thing, and they’re fun to drop by and see occasionally (and say what you will about the films, really do, but they’re consistently funny and spectacular, as most modern blockbusters are).
The further I’ve gone, the less I’ve enjoyed Deep Space Nine and it’s currently the only show / crew I own nothing about (save the moments Bashir and Quark popped up in other shows). I respect the show for what it did and the different direction it explored but I never connected with the overarching religious themes and many of the characters had backgrounds and motivations that I couldn’t connect with. A sucker for eye candy, however, some of the battle sequences are favourite YouTube clips of mine (although I do understand, and sometimes sympathise with, the argument that Star Trek shouldn’t be a war… conflicts like the Temporal Cold War and the Borg / Species 8472 war I liked because the starships were unwilling participants). The one moment I do strongly disagree with was Sisko lying to the Romulans to bring them into the Dominion War. Some of my "hero" captains have had darker moments (hey, makes good telly) but none of them have ever committed what I’d call a war crime (and what made it worse was that Sisko had multiple chances to do the right thing and walk away, but he didn’t… he looked straight at the screen and said "I can live with it" and, well, nope… just nope). I’m not here to make enemies, however, and totally respect that some fans absolutely adore that episode and that moment, and that’s great. It’d be boring if everybody were the same!
In an age where television shows, films and videogames are being pushed into darker territory (the "What Does It All Mean?!" syndrome) I think it’s vital to hold Star Trek dear and to keep watching the shows (even if I’ve seen them many times before) because, nine times out of ten, they overcome things and end with a nice positive note. Things can get better. People can be included. Tolerance will happen. Problems can be overcome with logic and reason and peace and understanding. And yet, the diversity of the shows is incredible, because you also get episodes like "Lower Decks" [TNG] and "Prime Factors" [VGR] and "Tuvix" [VGR] and "Memorial" [VGR] that pack a punch and make you think as the credits fade to black. And I know everybody always says this, but isn’t "The Measure of a Man" [TNG] just about perfect?!
Most likely I’m a Voyager first and foremost, with The Next Generation and Enterprise tied for runner-up. But I’ll always watch, and always enjoy, anything Star Trek.
Wow, sorry for rambling on. I really should get back to pretending to do some work!
See you… out there!
Many thanks, soundtrekker!
I kinda waded in with my opinions up there, apologies, but thanks for echoing the sentiment of IDIC, something I really try to live by. And that’s also the beauty of something as diverse as Star Trek, the diversity and the fact that there’s an episode for everybody in the 700+ shows out there. Every member of my family and every friend I know has, at some stage, sat down and enjoyed an episode, even if they can’t stand some others that I (or others) adore… or, to put it another way, somebody’s gotta love Neelix, right?!

Well, that’s an easy one, for a change, at least for me (ridiculously easy, to be honest!):
Fred Steiner (who joined TOS trek as the second composer, after Alexander Courage, and was argually the most important creative musical mind during trek’s three-year run)
He composed the score for TNG’s first season episode "Code of Honor" (1×04), the second regular episode after the pilot two-parter "Encounter at Farpoint" and "The Naked Now"

Mr Gold’s question about skipped-over episodes:
———- Post added at 09:23 PM ———- Previous post was at 09:14 PM ———-
[/COLOR]Well, after an in-depth consideration of the Third Season of TOS for Marc C’s book, much of that season has regrettable moments. But even the worst, "Spock’s Brain," has its moments. Seeing ol’ whatshername spout on about, "You are neither Morg nor Eye-Morg" gives me all sorts of queasy pleasure.
For my money, that tingle is right up there with "You see? You see? Your stupid minds. Stupid! STUPID!" from Plan 9 from Outer Space.
And I’m pretty sure I haven’t even SEEN all of DS9 and hardly any of Enterprise. I’ll catch up with them in my vegetative old age I guess.
BTW, what is that finger action going on in your little animation? For both Picard and McCoy, there’s a bit in their sequence where for a brief instant either they’re waving a dagger in their right hand, unsheathing an instant banana, or … I don’t know!
Hey, what a great name for a 1980s band: Instant Banana!

In Your Opinion, What Is The Most Boring Episode (Or The One You Skip When Watching All Through) Of Each Series?
Awesome dancers, Gold… and good question!
Can’t really speak for the original series or Deep Space Nine, as I don’t have those on DVD / Blu-Ray and don’t watch them through, but for The Next Generation, I usually facepalm at quite a few of the early Season One shows… mostly "Justice" [TNG] which I once saw beautifully described as "Wesley falls in a flower bed and must be put to death. So bad, you’ll want to die in a flower bed of your very own." I watched it recently on Blu-Ray and it was only tolerable when Picard and Dr. Crusher had a brief conversation about the weight of the Prime Directive (only for Picard to then completely abandon the Prime Directive ten minutes later). I also cannot stand "Up the Long Ladder" [TNG] from Season Two because at least "Shades of Grey" [TNG] was inoffensively bad, but picking up a whole bunch of racist Irish stereotypes and then turning Riker and Pulaski into cold-blooded murderers really, really gets me angry (doesn’t help that Riker and Pulaski are two of my favourite characters, making it an even bigger insult… wouldn’t have minded if it were Worf).
There are a handful of Voyager episodes that missed the mark, too. They’re the usual answers, like "Threshold" [VGR] for the ridiculous "warp ten turned me into a lizard, so I kidnapped the Captain and mated with her because reasons" storyline (although it did give us the gorgeous Type-9 / Class-2 shuttlecraft) and "Sacred Ground" [VGR] for the "I can see what you’re trying to do, but zzzzzzzz…" pacing.
Finally, with regards Enterprise, there’s only really one I outright dislike, and that’s "Precious Cargo" [ENT]. I don’t think a good script could have saved that actress and, likewise, a better actress would still have stumbled over the terrible script. Unfortunately, both were bad, and therefore so was the episode. As a fan of the music and production quality of the show, I was also deeply disappointed in Season Four, when the music started getting synthetic. "Bound" [ENT] and "Daedalus" [ENT] were dragged down even further as a result.
And I’ve ranted again. Sorry! This is just infinitely more interesting than work.
Missed? No Admiral Sparktank has the power to make it so.

The only mild inconvenience would be when it malfunctions every three weeks or so, but that’s no big deal. Everything has glitches. Just be on guard for ion storms, nebulae, photonic beings, Hirogen, wormholes, black holes and all other kinds of holes, Bynars, sentient characters, energy surges, Kate Pulaski, radiation, infections in the bio-neural circuitry, Seska, androids trying to merge their positronic net with your computer, evil clowns, Reginald Barclay and the handful of other random occurrences that may or may not deactivate the safety protocols and doom you and your entire family to a recycled scrip… er, I mean, "high-stakes dramatic crisis".
Oh, and if you do happen to score a transporter, don’t ever transfer your pattern to the holodeck "for safe-keeping". Unless you wanna be a one-eyed Russian assassin. Maybe it’s your thing.

Last night I watched "Revulsion" [VGR] which is one of the few episodes that I adore (Leyland Orser as a psychotic hologram… oh hey, missed him in the list above… trying to kill B’Elanna) and loathe ("Hey guys, look, Seven of Nine has bewbs and Harry is our high school kid avatar, hilarity ensues, I promise!") in equal measure.
Oh YES, as long as Risa is …kinda out of reach, a bit.
I would take a looooong vacation there. lying on the beach together with my husband (who is allowed to come as long as he does not mock the trek experience)
well, the transporter, yes i would like that too please, i would only need…i have no idea, as long as it takes to transport all our stuff 😉
I liked Revulsion too, good episode, btw.

I’ve gotten the impression that oftentimes actors get the itch to direct, whether as a creative stretch or for the feeling of control or for prestige, etc …
Vide (Latin for "take a gander at") Nimoy, Shatner (because Nimoy got to); George Reeves directed 3 episodes of Adventures of Superman; etc. It’s probably also a way to feel they’re being taken more seriously as an "artiste." Some of them show good talents for it.
I know I could never get on top of the gazillions of details required to do all of that stuff. Like roadway design or vehicle building, the amount of steps and details is staggering.

Dark is right, Lalaland released their first Enterprise soundtrack last year and, at the time, said that 2016 would include a second Enterprise collection (which I’m super-happy about as I’m listening to the first one as I type and it’s amazing), a second soundtrack from The Next Generation and, most importantly, the first ever Voyager release.
Given that they usually push out a Star Trek offering (which is a guaranteed hot-seller) in the Christmas run-up, I’m still checking and holding out hope right up until November.
At the very least, they’re working on it!
Which leads to a good question: which episodes of Voyager would you like to see on the soundtrack? Personally I’m hoping for extended cues from "Dark Frontier" (David Bell is a genius) and "Scorpion" (Jay Chattaway’s theme for Species 8472 is often stuck in my head), as well as the melodic piece from "Year of Hell" and some of the lighter episodes (there’s already music from "Bride of Chaotica!" in the wild, which is great, but some of the fun stuff from "Concerning Flight" and "Fair Haven" might be nice). Otherwise the big predictable moments (like the attack on the Tactical Cube from "Unimatrix Zero", Captain Ransom’s death from "Equinox" and entering the Borg-infested nebula / the ‘deploy armour’ sequence from "Endgame") are safe to expect, I think.

Only Changed My Username LOL You Can Still Call Me Mr Gold LOL
Yes I Had Heard A Second Enterprise And Another TNG. Voyager Is A More Important Release. And Yes We Do Have Bride of Chaotica And Heroes And Demons. But I Would Abouve All Else Love Music For: Endgame, Scorpion, Author Author, Tinker Tailor Doctor Spy, Flesh and Blood Aswell As Many.
Enteprise I Feel Was A Good Enough Collection To Stay As 1 It Gave A Pretty Good Overall Collection Same As DS9.
I would like to see Dark Frontier and Scorpion for sure. Some of the lighter material from episodes such as Tinkor, tenor, Doctor, Spy would also be welcome. Flesh and Blood had some good ominous music.
If you get a chance, watch Workforce parts 1 and 2…there is one cue in particular at the very beginning of part 1 which I think needs to see official release…as the camera pans across the vast alien cityscape..very Goldsmithian..Voyager had some of the best music from the later Trek series, in my opinion.
Pretty much all of the episodes you mentioned should be covered in such a set. Hopefully we will also get some alternates from the Goldsmith main title sessions, if any such recordings (still) exist.
I feel like demand for a Voyager set has been lower than for the other series due to it being less popular with trek fans, perhaps…shame, really. Hopefully such a set will renew interest in what was a very underrated series.
Season 4: Living Witness. Yes A Wonderful Episode!
One of my favorites. I think this was Voyager’s unofficial mirror universe episode; since it may have been difficult to explain how their true mirror counterparts might have been in the delta quadrant, they could do it this way without actually setting it in the mirror universe. Although they probably could have said they were there on a recon mission in advance of an impending invasion force, had they actually set it in the mirror universe.
I loved how they carried a Borg contingent on the ship and the doctor was portrayed as an evil android
I know (although voyager wasn’t destroyed, there was tech left behind during a mission and the EMH’s backup file was one of those things. That setup gave the writers a great way to do a mirror version of the crew without actually having to set it in the mirror universe and explain the delta quadrant conundrum. The fake versions of the characters are how I’d expect their mirror universe counterparts to behave.
Welcome to the fleet. A sorrier bunch of misfit, maladjusted dreamers I never saw … and I love you all!

Go ahead, I’m on pain killers for my elbow injury. :p
Nowadays, they have Autotune.
BTW, do you suppose that by the 23rd Century they could do the same for my face? What people would see would be an "tuned-up" version of the sad truth …

Is it that bad? Anyway, as far as I’m concerned, true beauty comes from the inside, as we all saw in "Is There in Truth No Beauty?"
(Yes, I’m in full trek philosophy mode right now…)
Thats Not A Good Thing To Think About LOL

😀
LOL. Fair Play Sir.
"Ah, What A Lovely Episode…Just Reminds Me That Any Moment We Could All Be Killed!"
😀
That’s true, but what max tried to say was that in this episode the doomsday device the Enterprise encountered was a mass destruction weapon whose main reason was to keep the balance of power, and thus never was meant to be used, much like the atomic bomb of the USA and the USSR (the Soviet Union). It was, nevertheless, a time of uneasiness, which finally ended when the Soviet Union fell apart, and the Cold War ended. Today, the new challenge for the world is fighting Islamic terrorism, and even Russia is looking for old glory, thanks to a megalomaniac Vladimir Putin. A modern-day trek tv show surely would adress these themes nowadays.
Thank You.
Live Long And Prosper.
No worries! Sorry to "nerd out." I clearly have no life 🙂
Thanks. I love that episode. It’s kind of like that short story by James Thurber, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"
Of course, this series was an albatross around the necks of both NBC and Desilu — too expensive, a creator/producer who actively insulted and ignored the orders of the money people, and so on. Star Trek was supposed to just "fade away" but the fandom grew and caught fire when the "strip" M-F reruns started a few years later.
And "series finale" wasn’t even a thing in the 1960s mindset!
But somebody should come up with a brief "whatever happened to?" list (ignoring the movies and other series), similar to the end of American Graffiti, if they want. Ten short silly and/or emotionally moving statements would be fun to read!
"Captain James Kirk died of an alien venereal disease four years after returning from his five-year mission. Mr Scott defeated Apollo in an arm-wrestling match and won the attentions of Carolyn Palamas."
And so on.

Someone correct me if it’s already been done, but a TOS series "finale" would make a great premise for a fan film. They could revisit one of their guests (Mudd or Trelane, perhaps) and we could see the Enterprise return to Earth prior to its refit in TMP.
If you haven’t read it, I’d recommend reading J.M. Dillard’s The Lost Years

That would be immensely gratifying to watch.
"McCoy went to work in private practice and had a brief fling with a certain lovely trill female."
"Scotty took a long shore leave before returning to oversee the refit, during which he discovered the magic of bacon cheeseburgers."
Not quite. There was at least one tv show in that decade which had a series finale: The Fugitive. The final two-parter "The Judgment" had the highest Nielsen ratings ever measured up to that date (22/29/Aug/1967). But it was clearly the exception in those days. Other shows in that decade could have used similar series finals, like "The Invaders", another Quinn-Martin production, or the three Irwin Allen shows "Time Tunnel", "Lost in Space", and "Land of the Giants".
CORRECT on The Fugitive. I watched the finale, as a youngster.
Somebody later wrote a joke ending for the series, saying something to the effect that the final scene would feature Dr Richard Kimble relaxing on vacation after being exonerated. Then he would unscrew his one wooden arm and run off for a dip in the ocean.
(The joke being that he was the one-armed killer all along.)
So silly, I remembered the joke all these decades later!

Ds9, i like baylon but prefer trek. Ds9 was okay from season 4 with worf.

I always knew you had a dark side in you. 🙂
Of course.
Enterprise had those dark moments too.
Stargate universe had lots of those.
As for Babylon 5 I attempted to watch the first season when it aired and found it was very different from Star Trek in many ways and I wasn’t too enthralled with the characters. It wasn’t until a couple of years later when I revisited the show that I became a hardcore fan.
So for me if it was a toss up between DS9 or Babylon 5, B5 would win every time because the heart behind each main character touched me more than just one of DS9’s main characters ever did. When DS9 ended, I was sad but when Babylon 5 ended I cried along with my mother who was also a huge fan.

Star Trek: Renegades (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2621446)
I watched it and I thought that it wasn’t to bad. It had hints of amateur directing, but still entertaining. Good story. They may get better at it, and I don’t mean to make it sound bad at all. It’s worth a watch in my opinion. They are supposed to create more episodes, like once week or so.
I imagine it’s under a strict budget, which would show up in directing, etc.
I will give it a look over this weekend.
Both movies are starring Tim Russ and Walter Koenig as Tuvok and Chekov, to name but two.
Going to look them up on youtubes.
Just finished watching season 1 of TOS again.

Me too.
Maybe they will release season one after a year but I’m not gonna buy something that I don’t know much about.
It’s all about money. In the same way that Star Trek[B][I] was originally intended to be revived to help launch a Paramount 4th TV network (circa 1976), this new series is intended to draw bucks to a new service.
They don’t care about childhood memories, except to exploit them. The said fact is that no matter how angrily I might protest, the people than own the property OWN THE PROPERTY and will do what they think will make money.
As I’ve told my friends in the Yahoo! [B][I]Man from U.N.C.L.E. group, No matter what — your memories can stay happy!

Then you don’t really give a shit about Star Trek. I mean, if the brand logo is all that matters to you… that’s just not what being a fan is.
Though I don’t blame you for being like that. You’re just a victim of a society OBSESSED with merchandise. :\

And that’s the thing. The best way to protest against something is to simply not spend money on it.
As I’ve told my friends in the Yahoo! Man from U.N.C.L.E. group, No matter what — your memories can stay happy!
Yeah, but then a show dies with the fans, being unable to generate new ones as it’s being suppressed by a reboot.
Though I don’t blame you for being like that. You’re just a victim of a society OBSESSED with merchandise. :\
so, maybe i should say thx for not blaming me, then.

That is not what a fan is, well, you seem to have a universal definition then?
I am 50 years old, i have been a trek fan ever since i can THINK, but well, maybe i do not fit your definition of fanhood: i can live with that, too, I guess. As I said, IDIC.
I am well aware and I understand your criticism. My loving trek just goes beyond that. I am not willing to let anyone or any institution spoil that for me.

😀

"I’M CAPTAIN KIRK!!"
His performance in "Enemy" reminds me a lot of his terrific performance in Roger Corman’s "The Intruder", a movie I can recommend absolutely, not only because the Shat is in it, but because it’s relevant, even today. (on youtube, look for "The Intruder 1961")
Of course, I hopes he never wears makeup quite that deep …

Here’s my trivia question, from that thread’s first post:
Last night I watched a 1970s TV-movie that had the highest ratings of its time, and three of its actors (all male) had been guest stars in original STAR TREK episodes. This TV-movie later became a series.
Can you name it, and the three TREK guest stars?

The Night Stalker (1971)
This was a pilot #1 of 2 for the future hit show called Kolchack: The Night Stalker
Starring:
Stanley Adams – the freeloading prospector in "The Trouble With Tribbles"
Barry Atwater – Surak in "The Savage Curtain"
Elisha Cook, Jr – Samuel T. Cogley in "Court Martial"
Full disclosure:
I own the TOS on DVD
I also own both the Kolchak pilots and the original series on DVD
Now, what did I win??

It’s a Kirk quote from the song "Star Trekkin’", written by John O’Connor, Grahame Lister and Rory Kehoe, a parody song of the original TV series of Star Trek, released in 1987 by The Firm.

Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection [Blu-ray] (Bilingual)
https://www.amazon.ca/Star-Trek-Original-Collection-Bilingual/dp/B016OMI3C4
Canadian distribution, usually the same as US distributions. Rarely releases are different.
On some sites, I’ve not seen any reviews claiming the CDN discs to differ from other country discs. For bluray, at least.
I know there’s different releases entirely for DVD, including the Director’s Cut.
Which the bluray’s didn’t get but TWOK is getting a DC soon, but no the TV cut.
Comments say it’s just a slimmer repackaging of the 2009 set, which I saw in stores but couldn’t afford.
This appears to be a repackaging of the 2009 set, which had the theatrical versions of the six Star Trek movies (1979-1991). The only difference seems to be that this set is a little more compact, and it doesn’t have the captain’s summit bonus disc.
One other comment also says there’s scenes missing:
I am about half way through the first one and there are numerous deleted scenes …
1) Kirk’s first arrival to the bridge, as he leaves to tell Captain Decker he is taking over, the whole scene with the bridge crew and U’hura telling them their odds of returning have just increased; all gone.
2) The scene with Dr. McCoy arriving by beam up, the scene with Kirk arriving in the transporter room and talking with the ensign that had just beamed in and then Kirk calling over to Star Fleet to beam the officer over now; all gone.
3) The bridge scene with the first high energy plasma attack on the bridge and the arrival of the medical team to help Chekhov; all gone.
Is it possible the commenter is just talking about the DC scenes but wording them all weird?
I really want to get this set and then the TNG set later for the complete series. I already have The Compendium for the reboot series.
The white covers would have been neat to collect.
But if this is all of it without the Captain’s Summit, I think I ought to jump on this sweet, sweet deal.
Anyone see this compact cover set in US? Or anyone from Canada get it just recently?
I just might order it.
I think Paramount uses the same transfers for all discs around the globe, no?

Yeah, sifting through the bluray forum, it’s just a slim repack.
http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=97168&page=92
Same thing they’re doing with The Dark Knight Trilogy (Ultimate Collector’s Edition) with a 6th disc.
I might actually wait on the movie sets. If TWOK inspires the others to get 4K remasters, I might as well wait for those.
And get that repackaging of TOS bluray set.
$13 cheaper, plus when that price goes back up, a lot cheaper!
Is it possible the commenter is just talking about the DC scenes but wording them all weird?Correct. All those scenes are from the Director’s Cut, and aren’t in the theatrical cut. So they are not on the Blu-ray. Fingers crossed they eventually step up and re-do the DC for Blu.

Yes, this is a great fun episode for us James Bond fans.

Beautiful.
Hoping The New TV Series Next Year Is Good.
I’m really looking forward to Star Trek: Discovery. The creative and producing staff around it is quite impressive, so I have good hopes. Let’s hope they push the envelope and don’t give us TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT in another disguise. I would rather welcome something more like Breaking Bad or Homeland in Space, formally and artistically speaking.
That Was About It, I Binged Aload Of DVDS For A Month. That Is About It.
The New Series Looks Promicing, It Is Good It Is Set After Voyager, Although I Enjoyed Enterprise, It Looked To Technical For A Prequel.
I Agree Tho, At Least The Ship Is Not Called Enterprise And It Is An Entire New Crew That Is A Start.

Agreed, except it’s certainly NOT set after Voyager. According to trekmovie (which normally checks their facts before publishing):
"Set in the Prime Timeline, the Starship Discovery NCC-1031 explores the galaxy, 10-years before Kirk takes command of the Enterprise (TOS)."(source: http://trekmovie.com/all-access-2/, you should bookmark this, it’s always up-to-date with what is known so far!)

Sorry I Went Off Topic.

I agree, this could have been so much more. But if the show hadn’t been cancelled, the season finale (which was written AFTER THE CANCELLATION!) would have been a cliff hanger, probaby with showing the start of the Romulan War, or anything other than that lackluster finale!
And, anything about trek is on-topic, no need to apologize here!
Agreed. Interested either way 🙂
If you are referring to the Star Trek DEpository, yes, it’s been axed by the mods, because of all the Varese and FSM releases still being part if it, albeit without open links. To avoid any future problems, they apparently chose to shut down it completely, with all the LaLaLand and Crescendo stuff going with it as collateral damage…
There’s coffee in that collection…

So excited!!!
I heard that it was remastered
Apparently so, even in kind of a weird way. Some might have overseen it, but it’s out there, finally:
Sadly, it’s already gone.
I found it somewhere else. If you want it, please PM me.
That one is gone, too. In this case, the OP was banned, apparently.
But here’s the next one:
Thread 215531
https://filepursuit.com/file/3647931-Star-Trek-Beyond-2016-OST-www-AVADL-BiZ-rar/
strange we havent heard anything about it, since we got it for the 1st 2 films.
although, that might be a sign that this iteration of the franchise could well be done.

Of course there was a Deluxe Edition, you can google it!
(I won’t link it here, because it’s from a label which is forbidden and which must not be named!)
Just google "Star Trek Beyond Deluxe Edition soundtrack", and you’ll find it…
Pure, nostalgic TOS-Feeling.
Sadly, no one seems like to share ist, even ST: CONTINUES its a non-commercial-production.
I couldn`t find anything anywhere :-/
We were promised another volume each of DS9 and VOY, plus IIRC one more TNG release, along with a "leftovers" collection, all slated for 2018. They’re notoriously tight-lipped about these things until just before press time, so the silence doesn’t worry me that much.
Source please?
Nice. Good info and thanks for the tip!
Scott
I can inform y’all that my friend Marc Cushman is working on the fourth volume of These Are the Voyages, which will be about Trek after TOS, maybe up to the first movie, I’m not sure. You can check the Jacobs/Brown webpage for the book for info. http://www.jacobsbrownmediagroup.com/these-are-the-voyages-gene-roddenberry-and-star-trek-in-the-1970s.html
Once again I will have the honor of editing. Woo-hoo!
Best wishes to all …

Can’t wait for it to come out! Thanks Mark 🙂

Wait … the book name did not show up in bold-italics, but instead had an honor guard named "B" and "I"? Is that flattering or not?
Very flattering!
Scott
By the way, are Scotty and I the only ones hangin’ around this thread? Sound off, campers!

Thanks for the update Mark! I’m looking forward to reading it.
I think it is just you and I, we have moved to the other thread! (Outcast of the Star Trek Thread Reunion Thread Part II) You can post there and more people will see and read your book.
Scott
We finished covering Season One of TAS and looking at Genesis II (the possible continuation as a series), and now looking into the discussion of QUESTOR TAPES as a series. Only a zillion pages to go!
Cheers,

1) These Are the Voyages: Gene Roddenberry and Star Trek in the 1970s Volume 1 (1970-1975) should be out the end of February, you guys can pre-order signed copies now. That is, signed by Marc Cushman, the human word generator! http://www.jacobsbrownmediagroup.com/these-are-the-voyages-vol-1—gene-roddenberry-and-star-trek-in-the-1970s.html
2) David Gerrold’s book A Road Less Tribbled should be out in summertime. http://www.jacobsbrownmediagroup.com/a-road-less-tribbled.html
So polish your glasses campers! PS in my opinion, The Orville is more STAR TREK than some of the shows which have STAR TREK in the name!
