It was my understanding, you had to pay for them, as you would any iTunes. Amazon has CDs like this too. I don't know the quality of them, versus actually purchasing a real CD. I would recommend buying the CD instead... in case it's low quality. Also, you need a Japanese address to download them from there, as I tried to sign up once...

Well, I don't believe yahoo music ships to the US, so you'd have to try to find them from someone else. There are middle-men who deal with special companies like yahoo auctions and those third-party sellers on Amazon Japan; but there are also many sellers that will ship overseas.

You'd obviously need a credit-card or paypal account (for most middle-men only take that as payment); paypal may allow alternate forms of paying... I've never tried before.
Than you need to click "add to cart" which is usually the same button for most websites (even if in Japanese).
If they allow overseas orders and shipments it will likely have "international shipping" or simply have it listed among the normal shipping locations (otherwise be prepared to see a lot of long numbered area-codes for Japan's local shipping). International shipping cost varies on location, seller, and who they use to ship it (personally I think EMS is the fastest and cheapest, but you can't always ask for it).

You'd than need to enter in your address and credit-card information; and click "buy" or "commit to buy" (for places like auction sites). Shipping time will also varies on the same stuff as the cost.
If you're lucky you'll get it within 5-7 business days. If you buy from CDJapan, or someone like that.... prepare to wait MUCH longer. International shipping, I've heard can take as much as 3 months.... (though I heard 5 months once) if they do it by boat, or other "free" space availability via planes.

Personal experience, it usually hasn't taken more than 3 weeks on average... but as I said, it varies. If you can get them to agree to EMS, you may have it within 3-5 business days or less.

middle-men vary in price, and where they are willing to purchase from (basically people they trust, as we would online shopping); or already have an account with.

they'd usually ask for the location (website link, with the CD), the name of the CD + price (if there is more than one seller) that you want. They will ask for anywhere from 500-800Y (about $9.50) for local shipping, than an additional 1200-1500Y (about $16.50) for international shipping. Their 'middle-man' fees vary... and can be as little as 100-200Y; to 1000Y from what I've seen; on top of the cost of the actual purchase + tax.

Most middle-men know English, so you can usually type/talk to them normally (but try to be nice, they are doing you a favor).

I once saw roots search Vinyl LP on Ebay for 27 US dollars like five years ago and I'm still kicking my own a$$ for not buying it at the time. Miyuki From thee old forum had it but the site shut down after and I couldn't retrieve Miyuki's email. I know that this OVA is not popular within the anime culture but I am somehow attracted to it. Maybe because I love 80's anime monster character designs so much:) After watching roots search I noticed that one song sounds exactly like the work of the composer of wicked city but I forget his name though. Well, if I ever somehow find the Roots Search OST, I'll definitely post it here for everyone.

Speaking of sharing, I'm currently waiting for the Nayuta OST (1986) to arrive in the mail. I was going to save it for trade on the off chance anyone else had Roots Search, but I decided it was a better idea to share it with everyone. I'll post it when I can rip it. :)

So, I've got the Nayuta OST, but I noticed there's a second album called a "Comics Original Album." It has the Nayuta manga art on it, so I assume it's unrelated to the actual OVA. It seems to be easier to find than the actual OST. Does anyone know anything about it? Like, what the music on it is like or even what the album is supposed to be? What is a comics original album anyway?

Yeah, I have a Globian magazine with an ad for the soundtrack in there, and that's definitely the right number for the LP. There's also another number (CAY-799) for some other format (MT). What does MT stand for? Mini tape? I Google'd it and got nothing.

Anyhow, I hear there are three songs on the Roots Search OST that weren't used in the OVA. It would be cool to hear them some day.
Also, I contacted a collector I know (not on this forum), and he's interested in the OST too. He didn't think there was even a soundtrack for it until I showed him a picture of it. So now he's looking for an LP copy, and he said he'll let me know when he finds it. Who knows, maybe he'll have better luck. :)

X_x Just thought you'd like to know in case you wanted it. :) I myself like the end theme. I actually ripped the ending from my VHS copy, even though it has a little static.

Just to offer what limited help I can... I don't have any of the rare things being requested, but I have the ability to do commercial-quality LP and cassette transfers. If anybody out there is sitting looking at a pile of records or tapes, but isn't sharing because they don't have the means to transfer them into the digital domain, I'll happily do them for nothing. Obviously they would need to be sent very carefully and to the UK. This may be useful to somebody - if there are any takers, do send me a quick PM.

If you have a working turntable with RCA outputs, you're halfway there. A few cheapo cables will enable you to connect it to your PC, and some freeware (Audacity is good) will let you record the sound. If you want any advice / etc don't hesitate to drop me a line. :)

Cool, I'm 99% sure there's a turntable at my parents' place, and I'm pretty sure they have the cables. My Dad is an electronics engineer, so he has cables for everything imaginable. XD I do have Audacity, I've had it for a while.

As I don't (yet) have any anime LP...But I should get my hands on some soon. I have the equipment (well a friend of mine has) to rip them. so I may not ask you to rip them, but I may ask you advices on how to rip them correctly :D (and without killing them in the process :p)

My first process from LP to digital was with record player my grandfather bought me. It had a the option to record the tracks digitally to a pen, but it does in mp3 128kbps. :/
I tried with my heavy Metal L-gaim vinyl. I think I also need a some cables to re-direct it somehow the sound to my computer.

Only LP rip i've done so far is ripping a bob marley vinyl for the friend who has the equipment. the funny thing is, he buys stuff he doesn't really know how to use, so he calls me to figure it out. I used the occasion to rip the original release of Black Sabbath debut album my mother bought by accident fourty years ago ! :D

That's not actually a bad turntable - in fact I have almost the same model (a 2002 PS-LX250H which is basically the same thing minus the USB) -- assuming the build is still good (it looks pretty much identical to mine from the photograph) and the ADC inside is good quality, that'll do you very nicely indeed.

I got this baby for hundred dollars with free shipping. It's a little pricy but it's worth it because it has a USB cable to transfer:) But you can also hook it up to your receiver;0

Dude, you're a little too late. -_-; We all want Roots Search, but no one has it except for Twilight_Suzuka, and she's not sharing. You can ask her, but I'm 99.99% sure you won't get it.

I am getting The Humanoid for Christmas, which long ago TS said she would trade Roots Search for, but judging from how she was essentially like "no trades for now" I think she changed her mind.

Since there's no reason for me not to, I'm gonna post The Humanoid for everyone this December. :) I know it's a long wait, I don't like waiting either; but I couldn't afford a $50+ LP so someone else bought it for me as a future gift. We may not have Roots Search, but The Humanoid is at least something to look forward to. :D

I think everyone can get this one relatively easily, or are you speaking of a particular OST ? As for Root Search, you should try to contact TS privately if it is for a trade (god, do I despise the concept...), and see with her if you have anything that might interest her. But right now, I don't think she would agree to trade anything. At least not with anybody on this thread (which is fine by me, I don't like trades anyway :D)

Ooh, I'd like to hear that! :D I have the OVA on US-release DVD, but the songs in it sound really messed up with poor audio quality for some reason, like the editor wanted to erase just the lyrics or something. :/ And that's in both the Japanese AND English versions. However, even though we have all the right equipment at my college, I can't rip it here because the motor in the turntable makes a horrible screeching sound. :mad:
I guess I'll have to rip it at my parents' place this weekend.

Hey, I'm just curious, but does anyone know if there was ever a soundtrack for The Curse of Kazuo Umezu? I'm guessing such a thing doesn't actually exist, since there wasn't a lot of music in the OVA. I kinda like the creepy music in the credits though. XD
