Has Chrono Stone appeared yet? I'm tempted to buy it but I will probably wait till I have enough money to buy a huge sum of soundtracks from CDJapan.
Regarding Magi, the soundtrack may not have those if the title is any indication and there's only 15 orchestral tracks based on the samples.
EDIT: Holy cow! That was fast: Magi here (

I wish there were more Magi... 23 minutes of orchestral score. Bum. Still, it's f**king excellent, so I'm not complaining.
No Chrono Stone yet... don't suppose it'll be long because it's got Yasunori Mitsuda written on it...

I return back to the world at large after my journey through (a good chunk of) Infinite, and what do I find? Infinite's (sure to be) controversial score is finally uploaded, and two great soundtracks by Hirano and Sagisu/Amano. I'm going to drag my bandwidth down to hell, but who cares? Thanks for the great music gents.
I'm telling ya, I am not going to have enough time to do all the things I want to do. Need to finish up Doctor Who Series 6, need to finish Bioshock: Infinite, need to listen to these soundtracks... We never ever have enough time.

Speaking of mai husbando Mr Hirano... there has been some "activity" on his website of interest. He appears to have finished a recording session for the ongoing Driland project - it's unclear whether he's talking about a series 2, a movie, or simply a new batch of music for the current series... but whatever it is, it seems to me that it's a sign of vastly improved release prospects...
Something tells me we'll see it after all...

I tried digging up some more Hirano. Here's (

EDIT: Found a Youtube Playlist for all the tracks from the concert... I recommend just streaming it since the avi is really LQ and sounds pretty much the same as the YouTube video. Below are the four cues arranged by Mr. Hirano

Herr Salat - thank you so much for that album! Loving it, although finding Mr Amano somewhat upstaged this time around...! :-O

Here's five minutes of bits and pieces from Driland, just so you folks know what you're missing. Just for a bit of context, Driland may well be the stupidest show ever made. I will never understand a country which allows Yoshihisa Hirano to sneak this sort of music into that show. This is no watered-down Hunter x Hunter... this is Hirano with his foot to the floor... and... THAT STUPID SHOW! Does not compute... THIS MUST BE RELEASED... Somehow...

Note about booklet: This is an odd one - the booklet is actually one giant piece of paper that folds out; on one side is the booklet, and on the other is a big poster of the two main characters. Because I'm tired I haven't split the booklet into pages - I've just scanned the whole thing. So, have fun with that. Moaning about my scanning choices / techniques will be met with vociferous remonstration. It's also printed on horrible bobbly paper, if you're wondering why it looks all lumpy.
As a little bonus I've also included the poster in full.
Tell you the truth, I'm not even sure this is available online. Yoshihisa Hirano in funky dude mode - warning, here be dragons. Yes, there is absolutely an orchestra here and it's wielded with typical Hirano panache... but in most cues there's a beat as well, and other obnoxious things like drums, guitars, and synthesisers. Hirano can get away with it because it's so damn classy. The usual terrifying clash of styles you'd expect, but meshed together so well that it all seems completely natural. Schoenbergian harmonies, electric guitars screaming, cool trumpet melody, military brass fanfare, otherworldly soprano vocalist... all at the same time?! Yeah, bring it on.
Incidentally, there are a handful of straight symphonic cues as well - The Elite's Restless Works is a lovely little piece of comedy relief, The Celebrities is an Ouran-esque waltz, The Freshman is a mini piano concertino, etc. That's not all. Everything's in here. Great score, heaps of fun, and every note just pure quality.

Much gratitude!
Glad it showed up... it wouldn't surprise me if it's been on a magical mystery tour.
I work in IT - we sent off a broken hard disc to a contractor in Manchester (about 200 miles) which they fixed and posted back to us - but after a week it hadn't arrived. The delivery firm said they had no idea where it was, and a month later the hard disc turned up - in Johannesburg. The post office in Jo'burg picked it up and forwarded to us, but when we tried to track it the parcel was listed as in transit to Auckland. It then went to Seoul, back to Johannesburg, then to Warsaw, and finally back to us in London... after THREE MONTHS of being sent around the world for no damn reason whatsoever... All for a 200 mile journey I could've done by train in under two hours. I wish this were a joke.
Gotta love the postal service.
As for having all of Gokusen in lossless... I'm afraid there's a third soundtrack (from the 2008 series) as well... ;)

EDIT: English tracklist for Gokusen 2002 and Gokusen the Movie added. Note that Track 2 in Gokusen the Movie OST reads "hijack", not "Hi, Jack" And Track 11 in Gokusen 2002 is a wordplay of two words that read the same... (the latter is a made-up word) 教師→強師, which would literally mean Teacher→Strong Master/Leader. I couldn't capture the essence of the wordplay in English, but you get the idea in the context of the show.

Hmm, my translation wasn't so bad after all! Though "Hijack -> Hai Jack -> Yes, Jack!" is awfully embarrassing... I really don't know how I didn't put that together.
How did you arrive at "That ain't an apology"? Unless I'm being dense, that's not what the official track title is! Did you do what I did and pinch a line from the movie? ;)
Since I wasn't quite sure I went with the slightly sanitised line "Hey, You - Shut Up!" but watching back, yours makes more sense...

The expression is pretty colloquial. It roughly means, "I can't forgive you!" But I am also trying to be literal at the same time without losing the rather coarse nuance. "勘弁" means "pardon" or "excuse", so I did make a roundabout translation there. Sometimes, I go with whatever that comes to my mind that is a rough equivalent in terms of both tone and actual meaning.

Haha! Look at that Marco guy completely missing the point about the Wagner quote in Ponyo. Nothing to do with Miyazaki... Hisaishi wrote the damned thing, after all... Ponyo is also known as Brunhilde... so Hisaishi makes a musical pun by quoting an iconic theme from The Valkyrie. I like those moments where the composer is almost breaking the fourth wall. It's a little wink between composer and listener - and more importantly, one which doesn't interrupt the flow of the score within the context of the film. If only more film and media composers were savvy enough about the classical repertoire to do this sort of thing. Gone are the days where a composer would drop in a sly quote of the Dies Irae.
Except in Japan, where a composer can still crack a opera joke in a kid's cartoon...

I imagine so - we just got three scores in a row (Oz, Jack the Giant Slayer, The Croods) that have orchestral music. And they don't suck! Recall that said quote was a quote not from the composer's own mouth, but rather a quote of what the director wanted him to write.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Have some faith! It will help with your complexion. ;)

You see, this is what I don't understand about Japan. They stop doing soundtracks because they don't sell... then they start doing bonus CDs. They do a soundtrack album with 40 minutes of music, then they do a radio drama of 24 minutes. Um...
40+24 = 64, which would've made a nice SINGLE CD release... and the presence of the drama would probably have boosted sales to make a standalone release worthwhile.
Do not understand the logic. Is there any?

YOSHIHISA HIRANO
Gin'yuu Mokushiroku Meine Liebe
https://mega.co.nz/#!oxIHnZSb!TKd-4XyNwMHQpc7fjIAeUw9XPN9mA6md0R_ISIamFag
Not my rip - gratitude to Nipponsei. MP3 @ 192kbps. Booklet scans included. Track titles in English and Latin.
What a score. I do understand that you've probably learned to ignore whatever I say about a Hirano score on the grounds that I'm a biased fanboy... which is true... but this one is really special. It's a jaw-droppingly mature orchestral work that functions as a mass-without-words - titles named for and inspired by the respective passages of the religious text. Every single cue is a highlight... but I must single out a few particularly special ones: Aria 1 squeezes more music into sixty seconds than most other composers manage in their entire careers - a soprano vocalist snakes sensuously around shifting orchestral harmonies... so magical. Later recycled in Super Robot Wars as Chant 2 and in Break Blade as The Mysteries Of The Stones... but this is where it began. Aria 2 revisits the material with a saxophone taking the role of the soprano. Dies Irae takes a surprisingly robust approach (even for Hirano) to a familiar idea - a thrilling, brassy cue where Hirano lets it all hang out.
It's all great. Just wonderful. Enjoy. :)

Regarding Anno: It's downright criminal that the scores for 1701 and 1404 were not released and 2070 is getting 3cds. Don't get me wrong, it is nice music but not in the same league as 1701 or 1404. After all this time there's still no score release, even on the dynamedion store. Happy news, Tango! Magi gets a second season so volume two is certainly on it's way ;) (And why would Amano record with Warsaw for just 23 minutes of score in the first place...)
Here is a little something for the poeple who like calm and atmospheric music
The music in the game folder was in CD Quality .wav files, I compressed them to .flac

Little Witch Academia has just appeared online... HOLY CRAP what a score! It's not long... but Oshima makes every note count. Don't think I've ever heard her so exuberant and forthright. Odds for a release are slim... but Oshima's really done it this time. :D
Here's the grand finale cue and almost two minutes of clean end credits music. :)

Not my rip. From iTunes, I think - with many thanks to Mr Anonymous.
No time for my usual fifty thousand word thesis, I'm afraid - but I wanted to post this sooner rather than later. I'm rather surprised at how quickly this one showed up... suffice to say, Hisaishi does it again. He even manages to pull off the Hollywood cliche sound (very occasionally, I might add, for those who worry) with great panache. A splendid, brooding theme... some rollicking action... just lovely all the way.
Enjoy... and BUY! :D

Thanks for sharing so quickly TT. A rather solemn score I thought, with few memorable themes like in his anime scores. Onna means female in Japanese and the story falsely assumes that the first of the big three leaders to unify Japan in the late 16th-century, Oda Nobunaga, was a woman. One of Oda's direct descendents, Oda Nobunari, is the 2008 Japanese national figure skating champion.

It doesn't falsely assume anything - this is Alternate History. Pretty much a big "What If?"
So, what are the possibilities of us English speakers getting a hold of this?

Ton of thanks, Tango, for the Nobunaga download. Been starving at the bit it hear what always appeared to be rare darkly-tinged score from Hisaishi. Glad to hear it doesn't dissapoint.
Lots of interesting names showing up this season, though time will tell if that means much of orchestral fans. Mina Kubota's on some mash of white bread called Photo Kano, Yasuharu Takanashi on Crime Edge: Anime Barbershop Has Never Been So Hot, Hikaru Nanase on Red Data Girl(though I can verify she's in her low-effort, twee slice-of-life mode, as she's been in a while, sadly) and of course, Taro Iwashiro making a rare anime appearance on Gargantia. The big news for this thread, I think, would be Akira Senju on Valvrave. Curious to see what they'll all turn out, as few of these series seem suitable material for sweeping concert movements.
Additionally, if it fell under your radar, Hitoshi Sakimoto appeared last February on the score of some thing called Iron Vendetta. It's zeroeth episode, mind you. Don't ask. It went unsubbed from what I can tell and was rarely noticed, seeming to appear from nowhere, but you can find it here (

It sounds like the music is synthesized. I long for another score like Romeo X Juliet. He is clearly competent with orchestral writing so why not get an orchestra?

Oooooooooooooh! :D
Shiro Hamaguchi (with Kenji Inai) on Karneval (started last night) and appears to have an actual budget! A little difficult to judge based on the first episode - there's a lot of electronic stuff which I'm guessing is Inai... but something tells me this will be one to watch...
Additionally... (relative) newcomer Go Sakabe has an orchestra for Date A Live (whatever the bloody hell that's supposed to be) - first episode's score is quite promising. Again, too early to tell... but definitely worthy of attention.
Kubota's Photokano (thanks for the heads up, NaotaM) is rather pleasant... she has a little orchestra and it's a cheery little tuneful score.
Finally, loving Majestic Prince. Welcome back to straight sci-fi Mr Watanabe. :D

Having listened to the score again I found the Western orchestral and choral parts not very interesting. Tracks 2, 4, and 13, which used Japanese instruments, were much more enjoyable I felt.
For Doublehex: I happen to have a degree in Japanese Studies and merely wanted to point out that this story is fiction, in case someone thought one of the great military leaders of Japan, Nobunaga ODA, really was a woman!

I think your turn of phrase implied that the TV series was a result of incompetent historians, rather than a straight work of fiction. :)
Either way... thank you for the additional info, which is always welcome and is a valuable companion to the music.
I hope I'm not in the minority here, but I'm really loving dark and brooding Hisaishi. This score, at times, reminds me of his concert music - an interesting turn for him to make. The guy is still innovating even after forty years in the business. But never, ever, does it lose that indelible Hisaishi sound; pitch perfect orchestration, structure, melody, and a strange feeling of effortless elegance.
The traditional elements are very interesting - that Hisaishi melds them so matter-of-factly with his style is a testament to his skill. I really don't know how the guy does it. I suppose that's genius in its purest sense... :)

Well I love the complete release of Ni no Kuni. The new pieces are nothing less than fantastic. I really am digging "Battle II" at the moment. It is a better variation than its predecessor which ditches the slower and foreboding to the energetic and tense. I can't stop listening to it lol!
Edit:
I am also enjoying Onna Nobunaga. I think this certainly shows Hisaishi's ability to write in a different style. It is nice to see him use different orchestral colors, but retain that Hisaishi sound. The flutes give it away for me ;). Thanks for sharing, tango!

Really liking Kubota's Photo Kano and Watanabe's Majestic Prince. Sakabe's (never heard of this guy) Date A Live has good potential, but the show is stupid... If you guys want something to watch, there is Aku no Hana, which so far has featured 0 orchestral music if any music at all. It's one of those well thought-out series that doesn't require music to be played every 30 seconds.

Well, Attack on Titan is out... Has Hiroyuki Sawano surprised us all and finally written the first music score of his career...? Or has he turned in some fourth-rate noisy trash with lots of percussion and electronics, no themes, no subtlety, no variety, and no artistry whatsoever?
That was a rhetorical question. It's the latter. Oh, well... expect nothing and get nothing - so no disappointment, there.
Slightly more disappointing is Hirano's Driland 2... only one episode so far, but I'm distinctly unimpressed with what we've heard. Still, the first series took a few episodes for the good music to start to come in, so who knows? It's Hirano, so it's got to have something going for it... I fear, however, that this time he's writing a little more to the show as it is rather than the first series which he scored like a first rate adventure of heroism, villainy, and camaraderie...
We shall see, gentlemen, we shall see...

http://bakabt.me/147508-fullmetal-alchemist-brotherhood-sound-collection.html). Since Senju will be scoring the upcoming sci-fi/mecha show Valvrave the Liberator (previously Mobile Suit Victory Gundam and Tetsujin 28 [2004]), might as well re-bring his Fullmetal Alchemist score to attention
(Hopefully, he went to Warsaw again for Valvrave :'D).
*Scans only available for OST1+2. OST3 only has the front cover. That also means there's no breakdown (on VGMdb as well) which tracks were performed from the Warsaw or Tokyo recording sessions, but I think while just listening to OST3 it should be easily noticeable.
For some reading about this (and Oshima's score), read Tangotreats and NaotaM, et al.'s discussion here (

I strongly suspect "Battle Scherzo" was temp-tracked with Star Trek: Nemesis. The opening is *very* reminiscent of Final Flight, virtually a verbatim quote in fact... and the rest of the cue is superficially reminiscent of Jerry Goldsmith's post 2000 action style (though harmonically the melodically, the cue is all Senju's.)

Haha!
I'm sure Senju's score will be good... if not completely great all the way through, it'll have its moments. I'd be an idiot if I judged the whole score based on twenty seconds of not-very-good music in the trailer... I doubt it'll be a Warsaw score, though... though stranger things have happened.
Senju, to me, just isn't an action composer. You hear it all over his work. He's in his element writing grand, colourfully orchestrated melodies but he flounders when something fast paced is required. He reuses music - sometimes entire cues verbatim, and falls back on his old cliches; he seems to be consciously and actively wasting time and it's all woven into the music itself. All signs that he's uncomfortable or unhappy writing certain forms. It makes me wonder why he takes so many sci-fi assignments!
Senju on a tragic love story... could be his best ever score... Senju on an action sci-fi mecha show? We'll see... ;)

And if you fancy inviting some nosy parker from England to your recording sessions, you know... he'd be very grateful. ;)
Apologies for replying late to this, as I've been away for some time and only had chances to check in intermittently. As much as I enjoy it, this is still a business affair- I'm not sure the others would approve of me bringing in someone new completely out of the blue close to the production. But I'll see what I can do. At the least, I'm grateful for all the good music that's been shared here!
Back on topic slightly, I watched Gargantia last night. The music in it seemed quite good, at least compared to everything else I've managed to watch so far. It wasn't sampled either, which was a pleasant surprise.
Also, I'll just leave this here... eek!

Howdy folks. Been a long time since I posted in here last, if you even remember what little I did. Actually, I posted Hirano's Harakanaru Toki no Naka de soundtracks and now I don't have them anymore after a hard drive death. Could I get a re-upload? [Here is the post (
http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/big-orchestral-action-music-thread-57893/314.html#post1713952) for reference.] Anyway, I read the thread but I hadn't been coming to the forum for awhile so I fell so far behind.
Jeremy Soule seems to me like he has some talent, but just a completely different musical philosophy from me and most people around these parts. It frustrates me so much to hear his music because instead of spending all that effort on something that fades into the background, he could have made something memorable. Maybe he'll do something good with this symphony since it should stand on its own instead of being ambiance for something else. He seems like a pretentious bitch though. "Soule Symphony No. 1" (and it's Opus 1, no less. We know we're dealing with a serious "symphonist" now). Ugh. Quote, "Some darker moments in The Northerner will reflect the night sky and the ancient light that has always caressed our eyes." Pff. Now that deserves a smack in the mouth.

So here's another score that could easily fit on one cd (...you know the drill). This time Sato wrote perhaps the best majestic theme in his career. Especially the choral version still gives me shivers. It's sweeping epic music fitting for the sea of the stars. The rest of the score is excellent as well even if there are some typical Sato temp tracks to be found.
Nonetheless, this belongs in any Sato collection, it's a great SciFi score with a stunning Theme.

In 2007, I made this 18-minute "summary" of what is still for me, Hirano's finest score. This suite really hangs together so well... even though there is a certain bias towards the music on the first CD - I'm not sure why. I've kept the edits largely as they were in the original albeit with a handful of minor (literally, tenths-of-a-second timing tweaks) changes here and there. I think another may be in the offing... The music was spread pretty thin, it has to be said. There was a lot of cheapy filler stuff padding out maybe half an hour or a bit more of orchestral score. It was quite common for the same cue to be re-used twice or even thrice per episode in every single episode.
I imagine it'll be a pretty well-stocked single CD...

Wait, so you mean to say that after all that Hirano had done, after he had scored to shows where the protagonist was a mad fascist in possession of a book of the death, a show that detailed the epic battle between giant machines, of the battle between medieval-futurist kingdoms, that his very best work was...a show about a lower class kid thrown into an elite, rich academy and the hilarity thereof?
I guess I should try to find the complete soundtrack then.

As for Tempest... something tells me that you might be better off taking the inevitable download for OST 2 and waiting a little while more... The whole thing just reeks of "We'll release it properly later" - and frankly, if Driland - a show for five year old kids that features an avant-garde symphonic/choral score and which finished two weeks ago can get a release... bloody Tempest sure as hell can too... I think the regulars here are well-acquainted with this soundtrack. For those who aren't, Takayuki Hattori is a rather big time composer of movies, TV, and anime, and you may have heard some of his arrangement work on the the very first Final Fantasy arranged album, Symphonic Suite Final Fantasy. Clearly he's a real pro with an orchestra and, though this was written for a 1997 Playstation puzzle game, it is pure orchestra with occasional choir, and no synth. I'll admit I feel it's patchy with really memorable stuff, but it's all a good exercise in orchestration, harmony, and compositional development. These mostly are not straightforward tunes. When a simple, easy to remember melody appears, the piece often changes significantly in tone or pace soon thereafter. Just try stopping whatever else you're doing and follow along with "The 1st Tide" throughout its minute-and-a-half loop and see how much it changes before coming back around to the beginning. Though it's complex and often thick with dissonant harmony, I don't think the soundtrack ever gets too dense to be appreciated by anyone except music theory students. It is at times pretty gloomy, but I think its brassy, triumphant sound is its defining character. I don't love it as much as I do some much more simple and melodic music, but, thankfully, we don't have to choose. It has its place and I'm very happy to own it, which would likely never have happened if it hadn't been shared here.
It's actually still available at CDJapan (
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=SVWC-7015) at a very reasonable [for Japan] price if you want to do "the right thing".
I hope DepositFiles is okay with everyone. My MediaFire account got a couple strikes (that I really think were in error, but I can't really dispute it because it's true I didn't own the copyright) and I prefer not to risk it a lot further. Somebody can mirror if they want and I'll add it to this post.

Tracks 1~13: Ali Project's studio albums
Track 14: Arrangement of Wagner's Nuremberg Overture from Boogiepop Phantom

Tracks 16, 17: J-Pop singer Hiromi Iwasaki

Just a quick write-up before I hit the bed: This is pretty much another Ali Project album in the same vein as Grand Finale. So if you don't like Ali Project, then stay away from this one. I realized that I could make a compilation of substantial length by pulling Hirano's scattered effort on Ali Project's regular releases. Some detective work was done to find out which tracks feature Hirano's delicious arrangement in Ali Project's vast discography. Luckily, I was able to find most of them in high quality - the 5 MP3 files are in 320kbps. I left off tracks where Hirano was only responsible for strings arrangmeent, such as this one: Troubadour (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqaysClpnsE). It's a damn shame because the first 22 seconds are one of the most magnificent things I've heard recently. Anyway, Hirano (baroque-minded) and Ali Project (gothic pop) are a match made in heaven!
My favorite here is Ranse Eroica (Track 13 in this compilation), which starts off with Debussy's string quartet note for note, and then develops into Hirano's magical insanity full of his characteristic dissonance. Each track is romanized and is tagged with its original composer plus corresponding album artwork. And I intentionally put J-Pop arrangements at the end, so it would be easier for you guys to delete them. While Hirano did arrange them, they only sound like J-Pop with Hirano's light touches here and there. On another thought, I might as well call this Ali Project & Hirano Compilation. :'D

That's Tanaka Kouhei in the background, I believe...

Thank you, nothingtosay and Akashi San!
Hirano's arrangement of Wagner is just delicious! Wagner occasionally resolves into focus and then Hirano completely disassembles it layer by layer and then puts it all back together wrapped up in dissonant insanity... the control he had over his orchestra and his raw material even here at the very beginning of his career (he was just 28, here!) is jaw-dropping... very grateful for you digging this one out.
Nothingtosay: More spookiness... I was thinking about IQ last night and I kept waking up with the score in my head... and then you have posted it. This has happened before a few months ago with Crusher Joe; that time Herr Salat answered my nocturnal and involuntary request!
Depositfiles is a little difficult for me but that's not your problem - I'll manage to grab this somehow, sooner or later... :)

Not so much with this song. I used reverb to create an artificial ending because a fade would sound much more unnatural since it goes so quickly into the main body of the song. With MP3DirectCut you can do fades without re-encoding, but not real processing. I hate to do it but, realistically, there's not really any audible degradation using such a high bitrate. My offer still stands for now and forevermore, if anyone finds it in lossless, I'll redo it and put my best effort into getting it to sound seamless. Or someone else may well be able to do it better.
Thanks for the mirror, Herr Salat. Added to my posts here and in the lossless thread (now Tango's got it, I'm sure). And for Fuyu no Semi. And I didn't see the documentary score before so I'm getting it now. And thanks, Akashi San, for sorting through all those Ali Project albums and the others for the Hirano stuff. Hey tango do you know if the second season of Tanken Driland has new music? I'm wondering this because I read that the setting and characters are all new.
It might be getting a soundtrack release now because they didn't want to release the second season's music before it aired?

Yessir, new music. Hirano recorded the score for season 2 in March. Too early to tell what it's going to be like.
It is odd that they release Season 1's soundtrack just as Season 2 premieres... Japan works in mysterious ways... :)

If that's the case then it might just be because Nippon Columbia, the label, is often slow (recent example would be them releasing a Lupin III soundtrack 8 months after it aired on TV).
Hopefully they will release the second season's soundtrack faster (if at all).

It's odd for Japan. Soundtracks come out right in the middle or near to the end of the season they represent, to maximise interest. Releasing months after the show has finished is strange because 90% of people will have forgotten about it by then. You lose the "Wow, this show that I'm watching has great music - I'm gonna go out and buy the soundtrack album" crowd; all you have left are the "HOLY S**T YOSHIHISA HIRANO FOR THE WIN HAVE MY BABIES YOU BLOND-HAIRED HUNK OF MAN!!!" which aren't likely to be be sufficiently numerous to make tens of thousands of sales... ;)

I freaking wish it was like that all the time. Every time i see an anime with aniplex involved i roll my eyes. Because the majority of the time they release the soundtracks with Blueray/DVD bundles MONTHS after the anime finishes. Heck Sword art online ended like 6-8 months ago and it isn't until now that the second volume is getting released. That crap pisses me off! >:/.
Seems like more and more companies are doing it that way too.

Senju reuses the beginning of the 6th movement in "Air Rendezvous" from The Dream of Africa. There's definitely more recycling to be spotted, but that's the only one I can recognize immediately. The music is very good and I would enjoy this more than listening to all three volumes of Victory Gundam soundtracks. And is it just me who can't imagine Gundam with Senju's music? His music tends to be too tender for the action-heavy mecha anime. But I do adore his work on V Gundam as standalone music, especially this particular track (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNP4xha7Q0s), which is incorporated into the 6th movement of this suite. Eternal gratitude to Herr Salat for snagging this in high quality.
NOTE: This seems to be Senju's symphonic suite #2. I'm guessing his suite #1 would be Walkure Story (

I think Pony Canyon is the distributor for this movie and they have never done a movie+soundtrack bundle as far as I know. This would be their first.

Well since Bear McCreary announced his own record label "Sparks and Shadows" we will start seeing more frequent releases (I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Walking Dead score). In fact, he has released the Main Theme to Da Vinci's Demons. I like the melody and the fact that he has done his research on Renaissance composition techniques. This looks to be promising and a welcome deviation from his synth experiments.

Do you need a laugh, this Sunday afternoon? Why not listen to what happens with a fledgling budget classical label decides to cash in on popular film music, records compilation albums on a shoestring budget with an under-rehearsed Czechoslovakian orchestra?

In the late eighties, Naxos were still building up their reputation and their catalogues, and some bright spark decided to embark on a series of ultra-low-budget film music compilations, all recorded in Czechoslovakia and conducted by veteran arranger Richard Hayman. Some were better than others... and honestly, this one isn't the worst going, although it does have the cringe-worthy Hayman arrangement of Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra; all going so well until 1:19 and then suddenly we cross the point of no return; poor taste reigns supreme.
Some of the other recordings featured music for which scores could not be obtained; so we were treated to Hayman's very own by-ear reconstructions... and boy, were they terrible... I'll be posting some others purely for their comedy value.
This one, it seems, had scores available - and the recordings are reasonable - although Gerhardt did the Star Wars suite better... Meteor is muscular, Alien is a surprisingly competent survey of Goldsmith's ultimately rejected main title, Battlestar Galactica presents the main theme and also snatches of score from the movie, and Close Encounters re-imagines the famous "conversation" music as a brief but exciting brassy action piece...
Also notable are Peter Dempsey's liner notes, which are stuffed with misinformation from start to finish. John Williams was now born in 1937, not 1932, and has a whole slew of random movies that he had nothing to do with added to his filmography; The Stud (music by Biddu Appaiah), Jaws 3 (music by Alan Parker), Airplane (music by Elmer Bernstein), and Superman II (music by Ken Thorne). Meteor is credited on the back cover to "Larry" Rosenthal, and Glen Larson scored Battlestar Galactica with Stu Phillips as his orchestrator! It goes on. Absolutely shocking beyond belief...
This is a 2006 re-issue of the original 1989 album. Yes, they actually re-issued this crap and reprinted the same wrong liner notes almost twenty years after they were written... The mind boggles.
Enjoy... or not! ;)

Once upon a time, in a parallel universe, John Williams (born 1937, the composer of blockbuster motion pictures such as Airplane, The Stud, and Jaws 3-D and contemporary of Glen Larson and Larry Rosenthal) scored a film called E.T. The Extra Terrestrial... and it was a terrible, terrible score. A lumbering, poorly orchestrated, dumbed-down beast of a score - Spielberg's delightful film was spoiled by this musical incompetence and Williams' career never recovered; leading to his scoring atrocious low-budget knockoff trash like Jaws 3-D!
Some poor bugger who was duped as I was, posted this album in MP3 a few weeks ago - here's an upgrade to FLAC so you can experience the horrors with greater clarity...

Well, if you thought the other one was bad, get a load of this... Again, some tracks are better than others, but the bad ones are really really terrible. The star of the show has to be the "Selections from E.T." - Hayman's own arrangement... It's E.T. but it's not... Williams' detail and deft touch are gone in favour of slimmed down, simplified, and tacky orchestrations - performed with amazing lethargy. The rendition of Superman makes Ken Thorne's slimmed down arrangement for Superman II (back here in the real world) sound like 120 members of the LSO. Star Wars is represented, bizarrely, by Parade Of The Ewoks(??!)... and Jaws has annoying seaside noises dubbed in - presumably to add a distraction from the shoddy arrangement and drunken performance. The famous "Mission" theme (from NBC Nightly News) is actually pretty good... but then we're left with a nasty taste in our mouths with the final track - the Raiders March... played by your local high school marching band. There are more unnecessary snare drum parts in here than in your average Megumi Ohashi score, and that's saying something.
All in all, a hideous piece of shit and a terrific insult to Williams. Enjoy! ;)

Ladies and gentlemen, sorry to divert from levity to sadness... but it's just been reported that British conductor Sir Colin Davis passed on this evening at the age of 85. A great man, and an equally great musician, his illustrious career spanned seven decades. Even though his international fame was principally as an interpreter of Berlioz, when I heard the news my mind started playing Elgar's third symphony as elaborated by Anthony Payne. He wasn't the first to record it, but I just adore his performance. This is a live recording he made at a concert in London, at the Barbican Centre, in December of 2001. It's a beautiful symphony which for me epitomises the true soul of Great Britain - and the understated, modest genius of Sir Colin.

Dear Yoshihisa Hirano,
I too want to compliment you on your incredible talent. Your arrangements and compositions have a distinct aura of experience and beauty that I find extremely pleasant; it provides me relief and enjoyment after a difficult day of college and work.
I do have one question about your work with the Ouran series. I was curious about the piano composition that is played by the character Tamaki in episodes 24, 25, and 26. Many people have mistaken it for Chopin's Nocturne in E-flat Major, Op 9, No 2, although I do not quite agree. Could you tell me a little more about that piece? I find it alluring.
I hope you have a wonderful week.
Sincerly,
Yvonne
Dear Yvonne
Thank you very much for your kind words that encourage me! I am so happy that my music bring you relief and enjoyment and help you when you have a hard time.
Actually, the piece you are curious about is NOT one of Chopin's Nocturnes. That is my own composition in Chopin style!
I composed music to the "Ouran series" under the idea of "parody of classical music in the different periods". That is to say, I applied different compositional styles and techniques of classical music to write music to "Ouran". So I understand that some people believe that piano piece is one of Chopin.Because it is certainly composed in Chopin style.
I needed to compose the elegant, and sad piece that expresses the unhappy background of Tamaki, who always behaves artlessly. And as long as he plays it on the piano, I thought the piece must sound just like a composition of the romanticist. (It is obviously ridiculous if Tamaki played a pop song-like-music to express himself as he is.)
Best Wishes,
Yoshihisa Hirano

you're right, it is premature to assume the music in trailer 3 is scored by Zimmer. The reason why I think that it is Zimmer's score is because of an earlier interview he did mentioned the use of a 12 man drum circle, and drum plays a heavy part in the trailer music, and the fact that Zimmer's score is also found in all the dark knight trilogy trailers further convinces me that the music used in the trailer is indeed composed by Zimmer. (It just sound like zimmer, call it instinct i guess)

tangotreats
04-18-2013, 10:16 PM
She's really only-just starting out her career as a composer - so far, she's limited to "additional music" on Mitsuda scores... and frequently outshining Mitsuda in the process!
Thankfully in Inazuma Eleven Go Chronostone, she seems to be the "main" composer... with most of the setpiece cues going to her. The CD release seems to be a bit spotty though... I'm a little worried by the title; "Best Selection" which implies that there's buckets more which won't be released... Dunno... Maybe there will be another. There were THREE for the first series... but that was in the heady days of 2009 when soundtracks sold in decent numbers... so who knows?
EDIT: I bought two of my favourite Kameoka cues from the TV series score off iTunes, with the remaining 500 yen I had left on an old gift voucher! Have at it; five minutes exactly of Kameoka gold:
http://www.mediafire.com/?q8u6zw2uwblco44
Dead Future Tournaments: Wonderful wonderful wonderful heroic cue, really showing off Kameoka's credentials as a slick orchestrator. Begins with a glorious full orchestra fanfare. Great brass, soaring strings, cheeky woodwind flourishes (0:14 and 0:17 - fun litte trills) and all the stuff we love. It's all those tiny details that make it so infectious for me; you can't hear everything that's going on in the show, and I don't doubt that Kameoka realised this when she was scoring it... but she still threw in all that polish and quality.
Protocol Omega 2.0: A much heavier action cue, again hyper-brassy... such quality in writing. Love it, love it. Almost Yamashita-standard here. Remember, we're dealing with a (to all intents and purposes) brand new composer of only thirty-two years of age... great things to come from her, I sincerely hope... she needs a big budget solo score SERIOUSLY BADLY.
I wish I could say the whole CD was like this...!

This is a rare one; it's floating around online but has never been shared losslesly or with booklet scans. Long out of print, this is a 1993 symphonic suite by Senju, based on themes by Hiroyuki Kawada from two fairly obscure Japanese games - Walkure No Boken and Walkure No Densetsu. A splendid companion album to the similar Hikaru Genji Orchestra Version (

From July to December 2012 the series averaged a 2.8 TV rating. Earlier this month when they switched to the new timeslot they got a high 5.3 rating. They have a significantly larger audience now so it's only natural for them to be trying to draw the new viewers in.

17. There, The Summer In The Distant
18. Sky Of Flowers
Honky tonky wonky translation. The film's original title: "Kono Sora no Hana: Nagaoka Hanabi Monogatari", Lit.: This Sky Of Flowers: The Tale Of The Nagaoka Fireworks.
Main theme by Joe Hisaishi. This motif is used by Kosuke Yamashita. Supporting saxophone solo by Akira Sakahata in track 9. Also, supporting performance by PASCALS in track 15. "There, The Summer In The Distant" written/sung by Shozo Ize, arrangement by Kosuke Yamashita (track 17). No mention of the orchestra and the conductor in the booklet, at least I haven't found them yet ^^"
Even though Hisaishi's motif shows up a lot in Yamashita's tracks, you can still tell it's him. I think Yamashita's only good track here is the waltzy "Fireworks". The real corker is the main theme (track 1, track 18). Not as dark as Onna Nobunaga (where Yamashita also helped orchestrating, also Sachiko Miyano from Ultraman Max fame), but as Tango once said, Hisaishi at the age of 62 is still full of themes :'D

I haven't found out who's conducting, so I will check again since there's (bloated 600 DPI ^^") scans.
If you're still wondering, the conductor is Koji Haishima. I've added the full list of credits over at VGMdb.
Thanks for sharing.

I found a really cool version of the latest Superman Man of Steel trailer. I think this one is better than the Zimmer infested junk and it fits perfectly ;). Yes, even using the existing Williams scores would be better than listening to Zimmer.

Orie shared the rip of the Japanese CD here (
http://forums.ffshrine.org/f91/sin-movie-original-soundtrack-95968/#post1799618), MP3 320kbps. This is the ANIMEtrax / ADV Music / Right Stuf CD. Sound quality-wise, they are identical, I think, like Super Atragon (
http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/big-orchestral-action-music-thread-57893/402.html#post2027654). But unlike Atragon, this one isn't that rare and probably not as super :'D
There's a symphonic suite version for wind band available here (
Thread 125322), which summarizes all the good portions of this score.
Similarities to future Amano works:
Sin (1999): A Sacrifice Is Made (
http://kiwi6.com/file/azg9l0ee98) (00:32 onwards)
Battle Royale (2000): The Person Put Into The Game, Put Out Of The Game (
http://kiwi6.com/file/tcfse95d4g)
Sin (1999): Mutant Sighted! (
http://kiwi6.com/file/2kxk1yo5wq) (01:44 onwards)
Stratos 4 (2003): Gigantic Comet Threat (
http://kiwi6.com/file/5jj4hpys6i)
(Akashi San has recently shared Stratos 4 in lossless here (
http://forums.ffshrine.org/f92/big-orchestral-action-music-thread-57893/476.html#post2322883))
On Battle Royale 2 (2003) there is a cue called Getting Weapons and The Death Of Shugo (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaAf9Sh9-fY). It is none other than a straight repeat of the setpiece action cue from Urotsukidoji New Saga (
http://kiwi6.com/file/3q984hfbjb) written about a year previously, with a different melody overlaid - apart from that it's an absolute verbatim performance of the entire five minute cue. He must really, really like that music. Some of the ideas in the cue are heard in a prototypical fashion as early as Giant Robo I (1991), developed a little further in Super Atragon (
http://kiwi6.com/file/ts0x7j6pf1) (1996), and they are still re-occuring as late as Mushiking 2 (
http://kiwi6.com/file/361157e6s8) (2007) although he doesn't repeat the entire cue any more. The secondary subject (the grand, soaring string theme) makes a guest appearance in Sin The Movie (1999 in the cue Elyse's Secret (
http://kiwi6.com/file/vay7edjc5q), as a faster action motif), in The Aurora (
http://kiwi6.com/file/gufgjt5ajl) (2000) in a choral cue.
I hope I chose the right tracks for your quote, tango :'D

Yoshihiro Kanno - Transmigration (Angel's Egg)
Angel's Egg is one of the most completely strange - and also phsychologically rewarding - films you will ever see. The score, by highly respected classical composer Yoshihiro Kanno, fits it like a glove - veering towards classical modernism (well, OK, so it IS classical modernism) you'll love this if you can suspend your need for harmony, and appreciate something that manages to be terribly ugly and searingly beautiful at exactly the same time - this is not easy listening, but by God, it reaches inside you and squeezes your heart in ways you would never have thought possible.
The music/booklet has been ripped/shared before (
http://bakabt.me/147113-tenshi-no-tamago-angels-egg-ost.html), so this is not an improvement over what you already have. But in case you missed it, here's my rip :'D

About Psycho-pass: I watched the whole series and thought the music was way too RC'd for my taste. In fact, the first soundtrack gave me a headache so I dumped it. Thanks a lot for posting, though.
