But from there on, the game rules. And the pain barrier in 13-2 is actually only a couple of hours (though it sure feels like more... New Bodhum... doing odd jobs and looking for cats in town... arrrrrrggh!) Reminds me of Kingdom Hearts 2, and that seemingly never ending section at the start in Twilight Town. If I never see 'The Usual Spot' again, it will be too soon!
Actually the Prelude/Prologue (Roxas Part) of KH2 was about the only thing I liked in the franchise up to Birth by Sleep. lol

If I was captured by a Jigsaw style serial killer and locked in one of those crazy trap rooms, where my choices were 'Play through Kingdom Hearts 2's intro again or be turned inside out and thrown into a bath full of salt', I'd need some time to figure out which would be the more agonizing.
I *never* want to play that intro in Twilight Town again. Doing odd jobs around town, waking up and doing the same crap day after day after day after day. I get what they were going for, but it went on far too long after making its point about the banality of life, the daily grind and feeling like there's something more out there that you could be/ should be doing etc. Its like that awful bit in Shenmue where you have to work undercover as a fork lift truck driver - and actually have to do the job, all day, for several days! I felt like I was going crazy playing that game, thinking 'Why am I doing this - its so boring, I think I'm actually going to die from it'.
But yes, the sequences at the start of JRPGs are usually the worst. Whatever the sleepy hamlet your hero is in happens to be called in each game, be it IntroTown or ProloguesBurg, its always the same soporific 'You lead a *painfully* ordinary existence, and wouldn't it be great to get out of here and do something epic and adventrous?' Yes! Yes it fricking would, so let's get *on* with it already!
And just on the subject of Kingdom Hearts... Yeah, I'm not a big fan of those games, but they have their moments. For me they served as a useful reminder of how good a lot of the old Disney stuff and characters are, as unfasionable as it may be nowadays. Characters like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck are legendary, and it'd been a long time since I'd seen them in anything good (like Quackshot or Mickey's Magical Quest etc). I think the Final Fantasy stuff is less successful, a nice idea but I don't think most of it is used very well, and I say that a big Final Fantasy fan. The Disney characters and worlds are the standouts in that series for me.

I seldom play games as fervently as I did last week. I am currently at the last boss battle in FINAL FANTASY XIII-2, and gotta say I do LOVE that game, but it has its bad points as well. I also love the OST so much, I am going to buy it soon enough. After this, it is LIGHTNING RETURNS! Shivers.

Yeah, it is. Don't really like the fact that once a unit dies, they never come back. And that can't be helped too much in tactical games. Congrats on your platinum. Took me much less time.

Depends what games you play, really. Some platinums you can get in no time (Secret of Monkey Island for example), but some require such ludicrous amounts of work and time that it really isn't worth it, unless the game has you hooked and you get it just by dint of playing it a lot.
I've had a PS3 for over 5 years, and I still only have a handful of Platinum Trophies. Lost some when my old PS3 died, but it probably wasn't much more than 10 Platinums I would think. And I always finish my games, and try to get my full money's worth. Its just that most Platinum trophies ask for too much, and it stops being fun.

I don't go for achievements at all. I got it for Disgaea D2 because I have over 400 hours on it, and when I completed the item list, I looked at the trophies and saw I only had 2 left to get, so I just did. I still haven't beaten Baal yet, not even close, so that game will never be finished until I do so.
About 98% done with Sleeping Dogs (PS3). Story mode done, just collecting those last lock boxes for my completionist tendencies...
Far Cry 4 (PS4), will probably take forever to finish the game due to me climbing mountains and just enjoying the scenery. Story mode is that long, so will eventually hunker down on that point.

I think it's pretty good, despite it being the first Armored Core game I've ever played. It's very fun engaging enemy Nexts, but very difficult at times. At the same time, it feels rewarding when you defeat them. It may get repetitive in terms of missions(destroy some Normals, destroy these Nexts, destroy this, destroy that), but if you don't mind that, it's very fun. It can be frustrating when you get destroyed in some missions(hard mode especially, it's pretty brutal at times)either due to how your mech is customized, or pilot error. :p
I'd say give it a try. If you played previous AC games, I'm not sure how you'll like it, because I imagine fans of the older ones either didn't like AC 4, or had mixed feelings about it. Oh, and the soundtrack (

Lol, don't worry, I'll be getting to that too. :) I'm just playing them in the order they were released.

So where are you fitting RE:0 into this? I marathoned the RE series a year or so back, and I couldn't decide whether it should be done first, or after RE1, seeing as how it kind of screws the narrative flow if you view its events before RE1.
I didn't bother with the Gun Survivor games, though. HUNK is the best, but the spin offs like Gun Survivor and Outbreak etc are all awful IMO. I still think ORC is underrated though. On the off-chance you're off for it, I'd be up for co-op in RE5 or 6. No pressure, just keep it in mind, hey?

I played REmake before RE Zero, from what I've remembered. The only thing I found confusing was how did Rebecca end up at the Spencer mansion. She's just...there.
Vrykolas
04-21-2015, 10:44 PM
I never understood that either. She starts near the mansion (because Alpha Team find Bravo's helicopter in the RE1 intro and they are walking/running distance from the mansion). But then she boards a train, takes a lengthy high speed trip to another facility, which opens out into some areas from RE2 which are under/very near the RPD. But judging by the location of the RPD which is in the heart of Raccoon City, that would mean she's a *huge* distance away from the mansion at that point (because the mansion is up in the mountains outside town). But coming out of the facility, she is somehow on a ridge overlooking the mansion???
I also have problems deciding who to play in RE1. Chris' scenario makes sense as it follows on directly from RE:0 and shows what happens next for Rebecca. It also makes sense for Code Veronica as Chris is surprised to learn that Wesker is alive in that (Wesker is seemingly killed in Chris' scenario by the Tyrant, whereas he escapes in Jill's scenario). But then again, Barry's betrayal and even the 'You almost became a Jill Sandwich' line are now canon as of the end of RE3 and some dialogue from Revelations 2.
In the end, I usually choose Jill, as I think it makes for the more interesring game and her final confrontation scene with Wesker is better IMO. It does feel odd having to wait until the the second half of Code Veronica to play as Chris though!
Rok:
I like ORC, but I don't have a mic headset and that would probably be an issue in that game for co-op. Not having a mic doesn't really affect RE5 and 6, because you're usually pretty close to each other and the partner commands are good enough to let people know what's on your mind. And there's always messaging for the few times when you need to say something specific. But in ORC with 4 people on a team, it could get a little awkward. Not sure what the partner commands are in that game (I've never tried co-op in ORC, but I done loads of RE5 and 6 co-op).
Anyway, my door is always open to my FF Shrine brethren :D If anybody wants to do some RE or Dark Souls 2 co-op, then just send a message and we'll try and sort something out. Just remember - no mic. (And no, I won't be getting one - the horror stories of abuse over those things put me off).

ORC is far more linear than re 5 and 6 combined.
and shorter than homefront. (not counting the half that was sold as dlc. which i dont have in the ps3 version but bought in the xbox version)
mic are hardly required unless playing coop. because coordination is key there.

The issue is that it doesn't tell you when someone gets KO'd, and doesn't direct you to them. So unless you monitor everyone else like a hawk, you're not going to know when it happens. I tried playing last night in fact, and this was pretty much what happened. Anticipating this, I played as Bertha myself and tried to keep an eye on everyone, which mostly worked.
Without the partner commands (and even just the Praise/Thanks buttons), it all felt a little unengaging. I still love playing that game, but IMO if you're going to get no feedback at all, then you might as well be offline. That's why I think games like Dark Souls and RE5 and 6 strike the right balance. The gestures and partner commands allow for some interaction between players without having to resort to headsets and have people chattering away or abusing you.
And Dodo... Ah, Code Veronica, one of my favorites. Makes me want to play it myself, but there's no way I'm rooting around to unpack my PS2! :D

I was never wild about RE:0 really. Feels like a filler game, and most of it seems pretty far fetched. Just doesn't ever really feel like any of that *actually* happened before RE:!. And I *really* hate how the inventory works in that game, having to drop items literally just on the floor. It felt so lame lugging stuff back to the entrance hall and just kind of arranging it all in a corner... daft. Its a solid RE game, but there's nothing that memorable about it IMO. Peaks too early as well (the train is by far the best section of that game IMO).
But yeah... Code Veronica. I just love that game. The Ashfords are such enjoyably insane nutcases, and its got that awesome fight against the Tyrant in the plane, the creepy carousel in the attic, the return of Wesker, the re-created version of Spencer's mansion. Its just awesome, like Resident Evil on Acid.
You've got to love how Chris Redfield has been through so much crazy stuff by now that when he's running from giant laser beams being shot by fericious tribesmen in full traditional get-up in a lost ancient underground city during RE5, he's like 'Just another day at the office...' :D

I'm still on REmake HD with Chris. So far, I'm doing alright, despite almost running entirely out of ammo at certain points(although, I'm probably doing about the same like in the original Gamecube version). The real challenge will be the second half, because of the hunters.
Edit: Just finished REmake HD. 13 hours, 50 minutes, 50 seconds of play time, 91 monsters killed, 274 ammo used, 12 ink ribbons used, 22 health items used(and I died twice, once to Plant 42, and twice for stupidly firing while carrying the fuel at the underground lab lol). Doesn't really give me a grade, but I think I did a good job, despite taking a long time. :p
Vrykolas
04-24-2015, 05:21 AM
The game's pretty draconian with its grading, unless you're super quick and don't really save at all. The speedrun trophy for the game is 3 hours, which... forget it! I like to enjoy my time in a game, and doing it in under 3 hours would mean some *serious* hustle. I usually clock in at around 7 hours. That's good enough for me.
Not a fan of speedrunning in general. I like to take my time and enjoy games. In the early RE games, I'm pretty obsessive about gathering all the herbs and ammo, and spend quite a while ferrying stuff about to the item boxes. Usually means I end up with a vast treasure hoard of ribbons, health items and enough ammo to arm a small country but that's not the point. The STARS motto is 'If it ain't nailed down, swipe it'.Or at least it would be if I was running the unit :D Judging from how he acts in RE5, Chris seems to take this to heart, carting off priceless African treasures to fund his little war against Wesker!
Chris Redfield: International looter lol!
I'd also issue a general memo to people like Jill and Chris saying 'When out on missions, try packing more than a knife, 9mm pistol and about 3 bullets!' Barry's got the right idea - his basic weapon is a magnum! He probably doesn't take a shower without having a rocket launcher handy. You know... just in case.

Playing Mario Kart 8 to try out the 2nd dlc pack. Big Blue is pretty cool. They could have picked a better course from double dash than baby park to remake though. 200cc is just plain silly...

It was those gorillas and the leech dudes that always got me in RE:0. Damn both of those enemies! Chucking molotov cocktails at the latter sure was satisfying though. Burn, you little swines! :D
And hey there Star, what did you think of Deus Ex: HR? I wasn't much for it when it came out, but I enjoyed it very much when I played it again last year. At some point I surrendered to the This is a stealth game, so at least try and work with it' and got on with the game much better than when I just blasted through as a combat Adam first time round. (Not a stealth game fan, but in limited doses, I can put up with them). Really looking forward to the sequel actually, and there's not many games I can say that about.
On a semi-related note, I just finished playing Alpha Protocol again. Damn it Sega, just let them make a sequel! Its got some problems, but the good *far* outweighs the bad. World, characters, RPG elements, dialogue, all first rate.

I absolutely loved it. Granted, I hadn't played a shooter from start to finish since the original Xbox days, so I can't really compare it to anything, but still. I enjoyed every second of it. Being able to complete missions in various different ways that I could choose from was awesome. I'm no fan of gunning in general, so the ability to complete the entire game without killing anyone was a very welcome feature to me. On the other hand, I actually like stealth and puzzle solving, so it was a no-brainer when it came to how I'd approach each scenario. The hardest parts of the game for me were the bosses since you HAVE to kill them, so I went into those fights with little experience under my belt.
The story and how it's presented was also very well-done too. I liked how choices you make affect future events, including how your choices can backfire, but doing so never makes the game unbeatable (like my abilities being blocked at the third boss, which made that fight extremely difficult). The in-game world felt so alive because of all the readable backstory, which I'm a sucker for (see: Metroid Prime and Morrowind, two of my all-time favorites), and all of the interesting characters I met, all of whom I see as more than just characters- they are people. I grew attached to some, disgusted at others. All of this contributes to the overall tone of the dystopian future setting of the game, which made for an extremely immersive experience.
I too am looking forward to the sequel now. If it's anything like HR, it will be good.

Actually, I think I'll skip the Outbreak series, for now. It's not that I think they're bad, it just reminded me how frustrating they can be, especially because of the fact you can't pause the game when you open the inventory menu, read files, or check the map. I can understand not being able to pause if you played it online, but offline? No thanks.
I'll get started on RE 4 HD, and then The Umbrella Chronicles. I won't play through Umbrella Chronicles entirely, I'll just play the "Umbrella's End" scenario, since it's canon.

It's $80+ on Amazon. The $59.99 price point on Gamestop is moot since they never have it in-stock and it's currently unavailable on their website.
I would say that Xenoblade is actually worth more than $60, but Dragon is right not to take a chance like that. I always tell people to do whatever they can to borrow or rent it from someone rather than buy the 3DS version because that tiny screen does not do the game justice. They should have upscaled it to 1080p and made that available on Wii U instead.

Ah, nonsense! The Souls games are tough, but its by no means an unbeatable challenge. You've posted some impressive platinums on here, so give yourself a chance before writing yourself off! We're a forums of winners, man! We're... what's that? Oh, seems I have to go and have my fingerprints taken. They weren't happy about where I was sticking that saxophone either...
Seriously though, don't be put off by the blurb on the internet. The Souls games are not impossible, and the difficulty does not strangle all fun from the experience. Beating these games doesn't make you some kind of elite - it just means you're someone who's played a lot of a very good game!

04-29-2015, 01:41 AM
Well, it still sounds like you're selling yourself a bit short here. Its not for me to make any kind of insistence that you appreciate your own accomplishments, but I don't think there's any shame in accepting credit where its due. Different games make different demands of the player, require certain disciplines and talents that come naturally to some, but not to others. Different skillsets required, but still needing concentration and dedication.
So I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss perseverance, i.e the willpower needed to finish long and demanding tasks/games. It takes a lot of dedication to platinum JRPGs for example (and isn't that the truth!) So having that perserverance to platinum games like Disgaea etc, is in itself a very useful and impressive trait, and one that many people lack. If a job seems too long, or needs too much commitment, then many will give up. Just take a quick swing through your friends list, and I'm sure you'll see that a great many people have no Platinum trophies, or just 1 or 2. And not because they're bad gamers, but because they don't have that bit of wiring that makes them stick to their task.
Skill at games, belief in your skills, perserverance to get the job finished. It all helps. And if you have 1 or 2 of those traits, then who's to say you can't develop the others? There's nothing wrong with having none of that, and not caring at all about platinums or finishing hard games by using only the power of your own personal awesomeness (lol!)
But there's nothing with having those things either, or striving to have them. And without wanting to sound like some personal motivation guru, you shouldn't dismiss the value of the talents you do have. As long as you have fun, its all good, right? I'm just saying that nothing is lost by trying. And this isn't specific or some prodding to go and play Dark Souls. I just think its good to try new things, and good to believe in yourself that you could do these things. (That's kind of why I sometimes punish myself trying to improve my frankly awful 'skills' at Stealth games :D)
Other than this though... not sure what to start up next. Thinking of getting Resistance: Fall of Man. Probably not an amazing game, but it is the only one I haven't played.

I found out that in order to unlock chapter 6 and 7 of Operation Javier, you had to defeat the boss as quickly as possible(which is ridiculous to me, I think it should've been "get an A rank or higher to unlock them"), so I had to back the difficulty down to easy in order to unlock them. Sadly, chapter 6 and 7 are pretty much chapter's 4 and 5, only it delves into what was going through Jack Krauser's mind.

And that's when the game wasn't just straight up crashing, which it did frequently, Add in corruption of save files, which meant I had to do the whole of Feros twice, and the litany of small bugs (the 'companion sticks like glue to Shepard's back being particularly irritating), and... Oh, I had it all in my playthrough! The Mako would regularly get caught on open, flat terrain and be unable to move and with me unable to get out. Several times, the Mako fell through the ground and I died! I had companions vanish completely for the duration of the mission, and the game *really* doesn't like you using the Warp power (it freezes if you use it too often!)
Just... no. Mass Effect 1 is a fantastic game, one of my all time favourites, but I'll stick to playing it on the 360. I'll take some frame rate issues over all those bugs, any day of the week! And this coming from a guy who usually doesn't care at all about such things :D Its a shame, because the PS3 version of ME2 was basically fine, and only having the one disc for ME3 is much more convenient. Plus the text just seems bigger and easier to read on my PS3 for some reason. Its not the worst port I've seen. But in a game that I like so much, it was a real pain to have all these new technical niggles getting in the way of my enjoyment of the game.

Ehh, I think it's good. Not the best in the series, imo. The first one is the best, and the 2nd one was great, while the third was a bit of the same. It's between 6 or a 7 outta 10 in my book.

Platinumed Dark Souls 1 this time - I'm on a roll lol! And yet... I feel this slight emptiness now that I'm done. My last week has been filled with Dark Souls torment, so it feels really odd to be suddenly free and out from under its challenge. Its enough to turn a man hollow... :D

If you can get it, get it. It's an older title (released in 2013) and if you can find it at a good price, even better. Thing is, it IS a sought after title... it's essentially a Grand Theft Auto in Lego and PG rated. Still fun as Hell though.
Currently playing FFXIV (still). Trying out Toukiden Kiwami as well, Dynasty Warriors meets Monster Hunter. Only played the first two levels and it's interesting enough... but... I don't know.

Finished Bloodborne earlier (and I guess in other news, I have a PS4... and Bloodborne obviously).
And well... meh. It was okay I guess, but its nowhere near as good as any of the Souls game IMO. Short, easy, dull world, muddled and uninspiring story, forgettable characters, poor bosses, no real variety in weapons, armor, styles of play. Add in that there are hardly any covenants, and both co-op and PvP have issues, then it was a pretty underwhelming package all told.

The Order: 1886.
An unfortuantely wasted opportunity, but despite the game being almost entirely comprised of elements that don't quite work or aren't quite good enough, I still somehow really enjoyed it. I hope it gets a sequel, but man this game has a ton of problems. Probably the most glaring for me is that it feels like a sequel to a game which doesn't (but should) exist. One where we meet the characters properly and have the world and its various elements fleshed out and shown to us.
This game hurries past all that, and upends everything almost before we even begin! It goes into flashback to explain, but this leaves it with the task of introducing characters, world, plot and resolution to the crisis in a game which lasts about 6 hours! They really needed to use this first game as an establishing launchpad, to welcome us to The Order's world and let us get to know and care about the characters. I did become engaged, but it was just too short and there wasn't enough time or room for the characters to breathe.
But like I say, despite the fact that I probably shouldn't have, I did like it. I truly hope it will get a sequel, because a bad start doesn't necessarily mean the whole enterprise is a bad one.

Nah, I'm done with Batman games. Arkham Asylum is one of the best games of the last generation, but enough is enough. The open world stuff of Arkham City did nothing for me, and I'm just done with that gameplay, as good as it is.
Speaking of 3D actioners though, the game I really want to play is Bayonetta 2. But its only on the Wii U, and there's no way I'm buying a Wii U. I was kind of hoping Platinum Games would outfox Nintendo and find a hidden clause that meant they could release it for other consoles, but no such luck. I hate driving games - I *hate* them.
Now, having vehicles in action games doesn't make them driving games of course, but I still hardly ever enjoy using them. I like zipping about on the Ghost jetbike in Halo, but that's a rare exception to the rule. So the batmobile being in Arkham Knight is actually a big mark against the game in my book, especially as I've heard they seem to have gone out of their way to force its use down your throat.

Its not obnoxious to gloat about your achievements and rub it in other's faces, pointing out how very much *better* at games you are than them. Its for their own good, you see. It lets them rest assured that whilst they may not be good enough, at least someone is. Makes the world a brighter, happier place.
Wait, that's not right? Man... I don't see what the problem is though. This attitude *seems* reasonable enough...
lol! Yeah, the really hardcore trophy hunting nutcases are a bit much. But so long as they don't brag too much or lecture others on how they should be doing the same, I'm happy to admit how impressive such things are. I've got some guys on my friends lists with more than 80 Platinum trophies. 80!!! But they're decent guys and they know its all just a bit of fun at the end of the day. Gaming is about having a good time, not trying to lord it over others.

Vrykolas
07-07-2015, 03:33 AM
12 Platinums for me. In most games, the requirements are just too much. I don't mind putting time and effort into a game I love, but some of the things they ask to do are just crazy and would take far longer than most sane people could possibly stand, for no real reward. I mean, a Platinum trophy sure is nice, but if it means hundreds of hours of slow, grindy work just for that, I'll pass.
I'm glad trophies exist, but some games definitely have more thought and creativity put into their trophy lists than others. A good trophy list will encourage a player to try new styles of playing the game, urge them to seek out the secret stuff they missed the first time. Bad trophy lists just say 'You know that mechanic where you do X? Well do it 5 billion times perfectly, and we'll give you a bronze trophy'.

Currently (and surprise surprise) I'm playing Batman: Arkham Origins on PlayStation3. I've played it through three times before (normal, New Game Plus and then the ridiculously-insane I Am The Knight mode) but having recently played through all the other Arkham videogames by Rocksteady, and spending more than enough time getting the 100% ending on Arkham Knight (screw you, Riddler), I wanted to revisit it and play through without the pressure of trophy hunting and / or sweaty-palm gameplay. Methinks I'll also take a pass at Arkham Origins Blackgate on PS Vita when I'm done.
After that, tidying up a few of my classics before September and Metal Gear Solid V - The Phantom Pain, which looks incredible.

Finished Resident Evil: Revelations 2. It was okayish I suppose, neither great nor awful. The episodic nature of it was painfully obvious, and the whole thing felt very cheaply made and low key. It wasn't bad by any means, but it did feel a bit B list compared to other entries. Even moreso than the first Revelations game, which also felt like a slightly more budget affair than the main series.
The Combat Character/Support character idea was okay and worked pretty well. Not reinventing the wheel or anything, but it did a turn. Quite a few irritating one shot KO enemies though, which got on my nerves. The narrative and characters were a bit of a bust though. The basic setup is reasonably interesting, and it was nice to see Claire and Barry return at last. But Claire in particular seems very subdued, and hardly says or does anything really, being completely overshadowed by Moira in all their sections. Barry is good fun, he has good screen charisma with Natalia and they make a good duo. Overall story and villain felt a little undercookedm and didn't make much impression.
I guess the game was alright, but it did feel very subdued and clipped. Seems to have been treated as a filler installment by Capcom, a shot of RE to the fan's arms to tide them over. Which is fine I suppose, but I hope the next RE game will have a little more meat on the bone.

Welp, I'm about to give up on Winback. It stopped being fun about 15 - 20 levels later, and got increasingly frustrating.
Edit: Yeah, I'm done. Just going to watch someone else's playthrough.
Gundam Battle Assault 2. I kinda regret getting the first one from Amazon in the past since it seems...lacking, compared to GBA 2. It's not a bad game by any means, but it's just lacking in terms of content.

Watching a guy called Tyrannicon playing From Software games on Youtube. Its hilariously awesome. The whole point is that he adopts this bizarre deep macho voice, swaggers about with overconfidence but is terrible at the games, and rages hard when he dies (which is all the time).
Its one of the best things I've seen in years. Plus he sings.

Been playing Spyro The Dragon since I never finished it as a kid. Just 120% finished it today.

Got to post-game on the second file on Star Ocean: Till The End Of Time, but there's still a lot of work to do.

Desperately trying to get through my Batman mood by starting LEGO Batman 3 - Beyond Gotham on PS Vita while also downloading and starting Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - Deluxe Edition (damn, that's a long title) on PlayStation3.
Hopefully should have every bat-thing finished by the time Metal Gear Solid V - The Phantom Pain comes out in September.

Played Final Fantasy 6 again on my Vita. Finished it without too much bother - the final battle was a bit hectic for a while, but I prevailed... just. And yeah, it was about the same as I remember it really. Decent game, fun at times, but I still struggle to see why its considered one of *the* great FF games. Its good, but not one of my favorites,
The ending is pretty cool though - I'd completely forgotten what happens during that. The little escapades your character get into as they flee the burning tower are great. Its a shame there wasn't more of that in the actual game, as the scenes were really fun and it was nice to see the characters bantering away in death defying scenarios.

Playing Heavy Rain. Heard good things about it and as it's been in my collection for awhile, thought why not give it a go. So far, its pretty interesting with a dark overall tone. My kind of game.

Still playing Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. Over halfway done at the Maze of Tribulations.

Hatoful Boyfriend on Vita, OK, it's buggy and looks kinda cheap, but still... it's an awesome visual novel. What I can't understand is the size of it, 2GB for game with no videos and voices and only a handful of music tracks...

Been playing War Thunder and Samurai Warriors 3: Empires(just playing on the easiest difficulty so I can unlock the "Gathering of Heroes" scenario if it's in the game. If it isn't, I'll be very disappointed).
I've gotten started on Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare(Dreamcast) with Carnby since I never finished the game. A few of the clues are a bit vague(I had to look some of them up), but I'm making decent progress, so far. I finally reached the library.

I always kind of liked AITD: The New Nightmare. I guess it was a bit rough around the edges, but it was easily the only AITD game that I've ever really cared for (although slapping people across the face with that pallet thing in AITD 2 was always great fun - plus you got to dress up as Santa at one point!)

Playing Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles on my Vita... and oh man, is this game hard!
Just reached an area where I have to fight 3 bosses (at least, maybe there's even more after), back to back. Looks like I'll be pulling an all nighter on this one...

Feels more like the game is playing me right now! lol
I mean Christ, I used to be pretty good at the old Castlevania games, but I'm getting whipped (a ha) mercilessly. Fighting Death on the ghost ship level was such a pain, but it sure did feel good when I worked him out and slapped him whilst barely being hit! Punk...
Its a great game, but its *brutally* hard. With the branching levels, and the fact that there are 2 whole games included free as unlockables (one of which is Symphony of the Night!) its fantastic value for money too.

I saw videos of both castlevania 3 and Dracula castle x rondo of blood which is the one on snes, and I have no idea how you are supposed to kill Dracula.Dracula shoots at you and you have to jump over pits and avoid being knocked into a pit or falling into a pit.Its so ridiculously hectic.I know some people love the impossible game, but I don't know if I would play it.I would probably lose interest, because such ridiculous difficulty just gets tiresome.

Its a cultural thing really - a lot of us grew up playing ridiculously hard platformers from back in the day. This game is hard, but its no Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels. The only time the game really pushes its luck is when it makes you do pixel perfect jump over death drops, considering you only have a couple of lives before being forced to go back to the start of the level, and checkpoints can be pretty far apart. That can get pretty annoying.
Castlevania has a cult following, but its never really been a sales smash. The hardness of the games were one of its USPs, and some fans only like the really hard ones. That said, 2 of the most loved installments (Super Castlevania 4 and Symphony of the Night) are very easy by the standards of the series. SotN is an RPG, so you can just grind levels if you get stuck on a boss, and Simon Belmont from SC4 is so unbelievably mighty with a fearsome moveset, that he's ever inch the One Man Army that fans regard him as.

I am used to difficult games, as I have beat ninja guiden 1 and 2 without cheating, star tropics was pretty hard as well as the original Mario, castlevania 1, which is legendary for being hellish and I beat double dragon and contra. Both snes contra and nes contra.
I don't mind difficulty, as long as it isn't retarded like karate kid, or silver surfer, where it is next to impossible to beat.

Just finished Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare. I'll get to Aline later. The game also has an awesome credits song, which I didn't expect.
