The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

So far it's addictive as hell and I love how it reminds me of not only the obvious Link to the Past but Link's Awakening as well. The wall walking ability is pretty fun and adds a nice gameplay twist.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. I just started it so I don't know what to think of it yet. So far, the gameplay style is very similar to a Link to the Past (obviously) and some Wind Waker elements too with the character movements and animations. The Majora's Mask cameo is pretty cool too.

Finished Atelier Rorona once and got the pie master ending, and I can't say I understand the complaints I've heard about the time limit.
I just started playing "New Atelier Rorona: A New Beginning" now, on Japanese, so it's gonna take a while with having to translate everything. Luckily it doesn't seem to have too complicated language so I'm slowly making it through. I really enjoyed the first one, so this should be even better from what I've read.

Another run at good ol' KotOR

I've been needing to get around to that since I bought the PC versions of the kotor series via Steam a long time ago(I've given my xbox copies to my cousin a few years ago). The only thing that bugs me about the PC versions is that the voice quality is a bit lower while the xbox versions had crystal clear voice quality. Maybe it's because the PC versions were on CDs and Bioware had to reduce the quality in order to get them to fit on the CDs? I could be wrong.

I still wish they hadn't made it into an MMO. It wouldn't have mattered if the game was the greatest thing ever - I hate MMOs and I'm never going to play it. Back when it was priced 19.99 it was definitely not worth it. But now you can get it much cheaper (I think 5$ on steam, but not sure). And yes you can finish it in 2 minutes but you won't know most of the story the game tells. But that's where the problem is. The story is very clique, so half though the game it's very easy to guess what the ending will be and that's just one of the few games flaws.

Hey, if I felt I was up to the challenge, I would go for that Achievement too. It just looks untidy to have one Achievement left, and doubly so when its a 'complete the game on its hardest setting' one.

You have no life, do you?

Actually I do have a pretty busy and fulfilling life style. Besides, if I want to go for one last achievement, then what business is it of yours to criticize my decision? How is it affecting you? It isn't.

For the record, the PS3 copy was given to me as a gift from some one dear to me... and I wasn't going to offend her by saying "Oh, that? Sorry, I already got that on another console, so bad choice of gift there. How about asking me what I want first?"

What gets me is that Nightmare Mode on Dragon Age 2 has no Achievement for completion! They went to the trouble of putting in an extra, extra, extra hard mode with all kinds of new rules and stipulations... and then gave you no incentive at all to want to do it! I like a challenge, but I do want at least *some* reward at the end! Good luck on that ME2 Achievement. It was too much for me the only time I tried it. Maybe you'll succeed where I failed!

As for buying multiple copies of a game across different systems... (Shrugs). People do it, and more than you might think. It might sound crazy and the sport of people who have more money than sense, too much time on their hands etc etc. But people do it. I've done it, and I couldn't even really tell you why. The best I can come up with is that some games are so close to your heart that you want to play them again and again. But its easier to do this if you know you're going to get at least some new reward for it. So having a new copy on a different systems opens up the potential to start again and have a whole new experience with it. For example, say you had all the Achievements on Skyrim (a hypothetical example, my views of that game being well known). You want to play it again with a new character, take a different approach, try new things etc. But you know that hundreds of hours will be involved, and you won't be getting any extra incentive to play, as you have all the Trophies etc. Getting a copy on a new system throws off those shackles. You can strike out on your new quest, knowing that all the rewards are back on the table.

I know - it sounds like the kind of nonsense that sales reps enthuse falsely about, like its the most natural thing in the world to do. But paying for something you already have is bizarre, no question about it. And if you think that's a waste of money, then fair enough. Perhaps it is, but consider that if it is giving people hundreds more hours of enjoyment, then it must be worth it, to them at least. Sure, they *could* have played it on their old system, but they probably wouldn't, even though they wanted to - because it would feel like wasting time, whereas playing a fresh copy doesn't.

A waste of time versus a waste of money, you say? Well I refer you back to the old definition of video gaming (that its thousands and thousands of hours of commitment and concentration, thousands and thousands of dollars spent, and all for precisely *zero* practical gain or tangible accomplishment). I don't recommend that people make a habit of going out and buying games they already own. RPGs are pretty much the only games I would do this for. But why buy anything, if there's nothing out that grabs your fancy, I hear you say? Why not go and do something else instead, until there are games worth playing? And its a fair point on the face of it, but its not that simple. We like the things we like. Being a fan of something often means going to what others would deem to be unreasonable lengths, and that's true of fans of anything, not just video games. How many households have you visited over the years that have at least 4 different versions of the Star Wars Trilogy, or Indiana Jones movies? They're the same movies, but people keep buying them. If it makes no sense to you, then you just don't get it.

In short, we could all spend years judging each other for the crazy things we do with our time and money. But why bother? Any gamer trying to make out that they are cooler or have a better quality of life than the next guy, sounds ridiculously childish (and I'm pointing no fingers - I'm making a general point). 'Oh, I play games sure, but not like *these* guys do...) If a person feels they've achieved that 'Zen' state of being, where they are perfectly balancing gaming with a positive, healthy social life, getting entertainment to fulfill them without wasting a penny more of your money than they need to, then bully for them. Everyone else will get on with the only thing that actually matters - enjoying themselves, in the manner in which they want to. Spending their money and their time on the things that matter to them. They don't need anyone's approval, and nobody can tell them its wrong.

Nor should they.

I'm up to 77/93 Expert 5*s now after a few hours today on DJ Hero. What's really been helping me is knowing where to activate euphoria. I play so much and it makes my shoulders and back pain and also I feel reekingly damp.
I noticed that it looks like kristoph212 puts the controller on his lap, which is interesting, and I tried it whilst sitting with my legs vertically bent because I was frustrated with the flimsiness and unstability (it happened on that tough mix Ace of Spades vs Groundhog, which barely has any Groundhog funnily... and I'm currently up to it and stuck on it badly), and it felt somewhat more comfortable and accurate (no bending back as before it was on-floor) but I couldn't really get into it/used to it much and do better, and my arm hurt more.

EDIT (2014.02.02): I just tried recalibration for the first time in DJ Hero, because of the frustration on Ace of Spades vs Groundhog, thanks to a tip in a tips video, and I feel more accurate, despite playing on a CRT TV (I thought that recalibration was mainly for HDTVs, but the guy in the tips video said that I should do it for any TV).
Ace of Spades vs Groundhog's Expert 5* is really stressing me out... I still don't have it after hours of gameplay today, although the best I got was about 13000 points away *sigh*

Hell yeah - Fatal Frame 1+2 *rule*. The first game has some truly awesome sound work - really ups the scare factor, especially during the boss fights. The second game isn't so scary IMO, but its an oddly beautiful experience. And the end sequence of Fatal Frame 2 is one of the best in any game ever.

As for me... I'm still not really playing anything. That should hopefully change soon though. From next week, there's at least 1 game I want to buy for about 9 weeks in a row! Probably the last big glut of releases for this generation that I'll be interested in. After that, I'll have a hard decision to make - do I buy a new console, do I continue waiting for good games on those consoles before buying or... Its unthinkable, but I can't deny that I really hate where modern gaming is at. Maybe its finally time to kick the habit...

So I'm back to focusing on DJ Hero, and I tried again and I got my nonworking DJ Hero controller working! The batteries went flat (and I did try other batteries before, from my other controller, so that was weird) because it wouldn't connect and always flashed red, and I used a different brand of batteries from some remote and now somewhy it's actually connecting. Now my mind feels more at ease, because now both controllers work and I won't have to buy another for DJ Hero 2, and I can use my preferred one as this is my preferred one.
Currently 91/93 Expert-5*s! Just Beats and Pieces remaining, and Groundhog I'm saving for last. It's easier to pause with PS button because it's bigger than that tiny little joke of a start button, and you still get a resume countdown. I remembered this from reading this that in the freestyle red sections, you can play 2 different effects for 100 points each (4x = 800, 8x = 1600, that's considerable!). If you rewind to the middle of a euphoria section, then you can clear it without having to do it all, and just what's upcoming. Using euphoria to combo in the right places is important, because not only do you get points and autocrossfades, but you can also use it to get rewinds easier in some sections of some mixes with the autocrossfading.
A tip that really helped me that I read was that you need to understand the chart. So many times I put off understanding some parts, thinking that I'll get them later on or sometime, but the game is communicating to you what it wants you to do, and you need to understand it confidently... this really helps, and you can combo in the craziest of places if you really put an effort into understanding it all. Wherever you fail, you have to try and understand that part.
Sometimes when I get stressed, I play too fast, so keep this in mind if you get stressed and are wondering why you can't hit scratches/taps/crossfades/etc that you hit so well before.
If you get too stuck on a mix, I'd suggest to do other mixes if you have any remaining... I was stuck on Aces of Spades vs Noisia, but I just finished off other mixes and returned to it later, and I played so much better and Expert-5*ed it in a few tries (I have to chiefly thank Here's A Little Something For Ya vs The Number Song (2009), which was fun to Expert-5* and really improved my scratching and my eye-hand cordination thereupon), and if you get stuck on the game, take a break I'd suggest because a clear mind has helped me improve so much. It's also motivating, and helpful, to read/watch/hear/etc others' experiences/advice/etc.
It also helps to have a stable DJ controller... I've always been on a wood-panel floor, and sometimes it can slide slightly, so I adjusted the TV and my body and sometimes the controller, but I can get it firm also, but for Expert-5*ing Rockit (which was fun, and moderately challenging... rewinds and euphoria and comboing was fairly easy/medium and is what matters), I started putting it on a pillow (with a rough cover) on my crossed-legs sittingly because it was always sliding on the floor with the hecticness therein.
I heard some complaints about synchronisation in Monkey Wrench vs Sabotage - according to Kristoph212, it's actually that the overscratching is oversensitive... so I tried hitting the scratches that had gaps separately like Kristoph212 did, and that worked well and I even got the euphoria sections (I don't know why the game always lags a bit on the first section, other mixes have similar problem) and Expert-5*ed it in a few tries. With euphoria, I recommend using one bar for the intensest spikes section - that is the most confusing section, which is right after the tapping section (don't use euphoria there. You need to save it for this.) and you can streak right through that with an 8x multiplier on top. BTW The PS3 chart is unique as some of the generic scratches are instead directional scratches (says so in Kristoph212's FC video hereof). I think that other mixes may have this, or at least Kristoph212's Beats and Pieces video says that Beats and Pieces also has one on the PS3, so this game is (very slightly) harder on PS3.
Oh yes, I saw Kristoph212 wearing a slick Sonic-shirt in one video - that's awesome :D

I've Expert 5*-ed Beats & Pieces today! It took a quite a few hours today, with some familiarisation and practice runs from yesterday, and I was really tired and soooo glad when I did it. This is the hardest mix to Expert-5* in DJ Hero.
Here are my notes from my general gameplay:
Don't necessarily restart a song if you fail at the start. Unless you're confident that you can get 5* if you restart, you can still play onwards and practise getting better at the later bits, which will help you and it's also less stressful to not restart. Unless you're confident in your ability to 5* by now, it helps to practise the latter bits stress-free.
For me sitting legs-crossed can hurt after a while, so I switch my position (e.g. sometimes on controller on blanket instead, or sometimes vertically bent legs with a space in between, etc), but I always do that when gaming even if not DJ Hero anyway.
As with any game, it's annoying when you're doing so good that your heart races and it gets distracting. At this point just believe that you can focus and that seems to help.
When scratching intensely, there may be a possibility you can get something like an ingrown fingernail... I had to bite my nail and skin to assuage it somewhat, but it still hurt but it got better after a while... well, for me it just got number as I replayed Beats & Pieces that I didn't even notice it anymore xD
If you rewind, really try to keep comboing, because if you don't you lose the double multiplier, so keep this in mind when rewinding.
The FX dial is important, because not only do you get more points, but it doubles your multiplier. In some sections it might be too hectic to use it, but where you can use it, try to.
Here are my notes for Beats & Pieces:
For Beats & Pieces, I recommend watching this video to get an idea of what you have to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-Zp8yI9APM
You have to practise getting as many rewinds and euphoria, and you really have to combo combo combo. This is especially important at the start and the repeating scratch-pattern sections, but also still matters as the mix progresses, until the end with huge long scratches like <-><>->-><>->-><> where you just have to try and survive and get as many as you can. It really helps to practice everything so that you know what to do and can combo it (and really do try to understand the scratch patterns in every part) except for the last part. Try to improve wherever you are failing and understand how before the final section. When you really want to 5*, you'll want to combo as much as you can at the start, and the repeating scratch-patterns part, and get many rewinds and euphoria. Save the first euphoria section that you get for the green scratches section.
Since Beats & Pieces is really tiring, when I got really tired after each full attempt I layed down to clear my mind and rest for about a minute or so.
I was usually getting scores around the 320k-360k near the end and once I got 380k, but when I made it, I did so well a run that I got 431848 points. For reference, you need 388k points for Expert-5*.

I finally gave in and bought a new PS3. The slew of sequels out soon to games I only have on PS3 kind of tipped it (Lords of Shadow 2, Dark Souls 2, Lightning Returns etc etc). And whilst these games don't *need* to be played on the same machine, I don't like crossing over consoles mid franchise if I can help it (I played all the RE games recently, and that was a nightmare of pulling out old consoles and portables for one game, before having to repack them all and get another one out etc etc). I much prefer to have all installments of a franchise on one console or one brand of consoles. Just feels tidier and more consistent.

Plus I had a huge stack of games that I couldn't play, so I gritted my teeth, braced for the inevitable 'Don't you mean PS4, Sir?' hard sell from the store clerks and paid up. The new(er) PS3 is much smaller and has some kind of top loading thing going on. Much prefer it to the old version and it takes up less space, although I was quite annoyed when the new controller's battery broke (not ran out- it actually is broken) after just five days! Not to worry though - I still had my old controller, and it works just fine.

So yes, I'm back up and running again at last. Checked my trophies properly, and saw I'd lost basically everything from late 2011 onwards. Given that I barely bought any PS3 games (or any games full stop) last year, it could certainly have been worse, I suppose. Does mean I've lost all my Tomb Raider, X-COM and Dark Souls trophies, which I'm kind of deflated about. Also lost my Final Fantasy 13-2 trophies, but I soon sorted that out - Platinum Trophy obtained! Oh yeah, great way to christen a new console!

Other than that, I'm taking a bit of a breather. Bought Lightning Returns, but haven't played it yet. After nearly 2 weeks on 13-2, I don't really want to jump straight back into another huge RPG. The body has limits, you know? So I'm waiting for Lords of Shadow 2, to get a bit of an action hit first. I've heard some ominous things, but I really enjoyed Mirror of Fate on the 3DS and that was panned too. So... fingers crossed (or maybe not... Dracula and crosses...hmm).

Congrats on getting a PS3 again. It really sucks that you lost some trophies though... I've had that happen, and it's disheartening - once when it happened on one game, I restarted it immediately and got it done again, thankfully the game was easy and quick, but on another game I had a glitch, and I was discouraged for years, and the game was harder and longer, and only now have I regained the courage to perhaps try it again.
Sometimes when you buy a new system, and play an old game on it with trophies that have been synced from your online account to the system, the trophies will reset to 0% locally when you install the trophy list (happens on first startup of game in local PS3 account), but syncing again will reflect the percentage that is on your online profile.

#58 DJ Hero (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SP2VbraMhnE). I've done it!

Final notes on my finishing experience (sorry for all the walls of text, this time I've spoilered):

Ugh! I had some serious recording problems with this that delayed me by quite a few hours. I tried many different wires and splitters at different points and thought of solutions, but in the end what worked was using a TV output instead of splitters (whereof all I'd bought from cheap shops... *raises eyebrow*). My current TV had a video output on top of an audio output, but I didn't realise until later, and now I'm using our kitchen TV and we swapped the TVs, and I'm sticking with this one because it supports stereo (and the screen-size is only very slightly smaller, from 35cm to like 33cm/34cm). It's like a blessing, because using this TV output is more convient and less messy... well, thanks be to God, that all worked out. This new TV has a more curved design and is somewhat bigger, whilst the other had an edgy design... so this looks worse and it's harder to stack things atop, but I'll acclimate. Also it has an inbuilt redundant DVD player, which used to be an old gimmick for TVs. The funny thing was, that I've had this problem for some time when using all of my splitters (you can't play on the recording preview, as DJ Hero's gameplay's too fast), but it started out of nowhere originally (at first, it was counteractable by fiddling around with the splitters, but that didn't work), and before it worked fine with this exact setup. The video editing went alright, eventually that is, as I had two different problems trying to run two video editing software that I use, so I tried another one, which was Blender, and it was a bit of a pain to learn, but it's decent for basic video editing.
Before starting a session of playing DJ Hero... drink a glass or few of water. Be careful of eating food though... I felt emetic at one point in repeating Beats & Pieces, but I just burped several times and thankfully never had to emesise. When I Expert-5*ed Beats and Pieces... my body was so shaky, and my arms didn't feel much like they were there, and my voice remained very light - even into the next day my shoulder and arm muscles had a little pain (that's normal for playing DJ Hero Expert though :P), but it felt good and relief-ful because it was the pain of success.
I didn't mention this before, because it's more of a subconscious thing, I always had a fan running next to me... whether I'm playing DJ Hero or not, I oft have it running.... I love cold weather! Perhaps it helped, because I know that hot weather is more stressful and all that, and since DJ Hero is physically and mentally strenuous, that doesn't seem like a good combo.
Some people say that if you hit a button whilst doing a rewind, that you lose your multiplier... actually, whilst you are rewinding, you have a safe window for mistakes, but if you mistake outside of that window, then it will count.
Groundhog is very mild of a challenge actually, you just have to get down all the simple patterns, and then rack up your multiplier to 4x and 8x as much as you can. I always use rewinds right away, even if it's in an transition section, as you'll keep on increasing your combo anyway therein, and you get points just for the crossfade being on.
For some reason, euphoria sometimes messes me up in parts that I do very well in - possibly because I rely on using the crossfader to help me time, or it's confusing when to start and stop using crossfader, or I'm used to reading the chart whilst actually crossfading or seeing the colours... this is only in some sections though, so perhaps in such sections still using the crossfader could be more convenient.
DJ Hero WOULD be my new rarest platinum, but even DJ Hero's 0.55% (today it changed to 0.56% though) is not a match for Free Realms' skewed percentages (which are thankfully slowly rising, as more trophy hunters are playing it now). DJ Hero 2 is even rarer than DJ Hero 1 though, and I'm going for DJ Hero 2 now.

I'm playing DJ Hero 2 at the moment... already got 60% of the trophies so far. DJ Hero 2 is child's play compared to DJ Hero 1.

Danganronpa.

Don't let the bizarre name put you off - this is one of the best games I've played in ages. Its like a really good mix of Persona and Ace Attorney. Its a kind of Battle Royale kind of thing, with high school students locked into a killing game that sees you investigating murders, and engaging in class trials so the evil mastermind can punish them instead of punishing everyone. Its well written and can get pretty extreme at times, with people getting stabbed, crushed, impaled, and even stoned to death in one particularly gruesome scene. But its also got a ton of warmth and humor, and you really come to care about the characters.

Its crazy as hell, utterly compelling and exactly the reason I continue to play video games. These gems out of nowhere have been thin on the ground in recent years, but that makes each one all the sweeter. The Vita needs more games like this.

Still playing Lightning Returns...I gave up on normal mode for a while and started on an easy playthrough. I failed normal twice once on first playthrough then the 2nd one on New Game+.

Playing on easy I found what path worked best for me...focus on Luxerion first, do some side quest after I progress first part of main quest far enough, then on the next day continue on til that's done, then move on to the next place progress that place as far as it can go in one day, do more side quests and turn in stuff for canvas quests, go back to that place on the next day finish up main quests, start on next area's side quests (mount related), head in the main direction of main quest targets picking up/tuning in side quests at the same time...yea basically just this until day 8-9 for me.

I'm currently just killing time.

First played around 2.5 years ago and did everything except I just gave up at Tier 1 mode (hard difficulty, beat the timer, squadmates won't refill your ammo, and no checkpoints for respawning) after I beat the first mission on Tier 1 mode. It's easier than I thought actually, and each mission took only a few tries at most, with the last one mission taking about 10-20 tries. Finished this up in a couple of days.

It feels appropriate, that I play Medal of Honour: Frontline next. I have it on-disc with MOH-LE (and it's also a 0% on my profile since 2.5 years ago).

Making steady progress in Lightning Returns. Strange game - feels like a spin-off, which is a odd thing to do, considering that its supposed to be the last part of the trilogy. Given how rough it looks and short it is, its clear that Square weren't in a generous mood whilst funding this game. Still, its good fun and the combat system is great. I could really do without that stupid time limit though - that has to be the worst idea I've ever seen in an RPG. Punish exploration and harass players with the threat of a game over after hours and hours of work, to the point where they can't really enjoy the game - nice one,Square...

But still, its alright. Caius gave me yet another series of sensational beatings to add to my already high tally from 13-2. Finally got the swine though.

Reached the final boss of Lightning Returns, but he's insanely hard. Tried a whole bunch of times, and its just not happening for me.

Its not that surprising though. Not only are most of the game's bosses extremely hard, but my engagement has been very mild with this game. It really isn't my cup of tea - the focus is very much on the gameplay and the combat system, with the story being barely more than a handwave. That would annoy me at the best of times, but its a crazy decision here. To focus so heavily on narrative in the first 2 games, to leave countless plot threads dangling with a massive cliffhanger ending in the 2nd game, only to then almost completely ignore narrative altogether in the final game...? Beyond a handful of very short encounters with old characters, the game basically focuses entirely on a set of new narrative threads, and pays very little attention to what has gone before. And it doesn't seem too interested in developing those new threads either, quite frankly.

It hasn't been a total wash, and it does have many plus points (great combat as I say, good ideas for new locations and enemy types, many of the threads surrounding the old characters are very interesting and have great promise). But none of it is developed, the first impressions of a plot strand for example, almost always being gripping and engaging, but then turning out to be the high point, as said plot thread is (very) quickly resolved. The almost complete loss of narrative and world consistency with the previous games is hard to take, as is the continuing banality of Lightning as a character (not helped by Ali Hillis and her usual wooden, robotic delivery).

Basically, I'll go out to bat for the FF13 series any day of the week. I don't accept that its been a bad series, and I've really enjoyed it and am sorry to see it end. But whilst I feel the first 2 games are unfairly dismissed, this doesn't evoke the same reaction from me. Its an okayish game on its own terms, due in large part to the combat system and customization. But as a sequel, as the closing chapter, and as a story in general, this is a very poor offering indeed. I actually skipped the last couple of cutscenes before the final boss, before the game had completely worn out its welcome with me. I'm just very disappointed with how they handled the narrative in this game, after FF13-2 which was so strong.

Same here really - I ended up watching the end sequence on Youtube!

He's a damn nightmare, I tell you! My build has been pretty standard fare (tank role, DPS staggering role, standard melee fighter role) and that has sufficed for most of the game. Its familiar, its how I usually roll on RPGs, and there was no reason to think that there was anything wrong with that setup. I was tearing through the game for the most part, and I felt comfortable. But the final boss requires such a different approach, because its all about staggering him as quickly as humanly possible (because his stagger meter decays very fast, and he has so many annoying interrupting attacks that knock you over and stunlock you etc, thwarting your attempts to stay on him long enough to stagger him. His 4 different forms back to back, lack of checkpoints between the fights (unlike the last 2 games), the small amount of potions you can carry, and the fact that you can't just go away and grind up some levels because that isn't how the game works... Maddening.

I can hang with him, and survive pretty much indefinitely against most of his attacks, but its hard to damage him properly due to the staggering issue. And eventually, his occasional use of supermoves over the various forms, slowly wears out my stock of potions and EP gague points, until he finally gets me. I can get to his final form, but I'm usually on my last legs by then, and the difficulty of staggering his final form is absolutely unreal. The guide suggests using the Dragoon skills, but I've never been a great lover of Dragoons and their fighting style. I refuse to believe that the game has to use those powers (as they are apparently quite broken). I just don't like the idea of having to change my fighting style to win this one fight - it feels artificial and cheap.

But the biggest crime is that it just isn't a fun fight at all. Its a whole lot of him shrugging off your attacks, you building up big stagger chains that you eventually lose and have to start again, and lots and lots of you being knocked into the air and slowly falling, you knocked onto the ground, you caught up in lengthy combo animations, and spell effects. Not really taking damage, not really doing damage, just caught in an eternal holding pattern, trying to juggle a dozen spinning plates to get them all to spin together the right way so you can actually make some progress. The rest of the game isn't like that at all (at least the gameplay isn't) and it just sucks that the final boss is so annoying. Make him hard by all means, but at least make the fight a fun one (like the battles against Bartandelus and Caius in the previous games).

Got these 3 over the last 3 days:
#61 Medal of Honour Frontline (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iYJshpQc7k)
Was a 0% on my profile since circa 2.5yr ago, decided to get 100% now. It was hard but not too hard, and took me 4d4h46m. Polyglotism made this experience interesting.
#62 Crysis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwnM0-t1aVs)
First played 1-1.5yr ago, but gave up games for trophies then, so did it now. Lacked previous save, but only 2hr to recover progress. Easy if you just stealth/run/drive. Platinum is doable in like 12h. It felt good to do this in German - nice how they got all those languages and also for voice.
#63 uDraw Studio Instant Artist (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwdWbr0N93I)
I suck at drawing xD Easy platinum just like the other 2 uDraw games (which I'll do next), you can do this in like 6-8 hours of gameplay.

Finally got over the finishing line in Lightning Returns. As usual, I was overthinking things - I realized that my character's physical attacks were so strong that I was doing great damage to him even without staggering. So I gave up trying to stagger him and just put all my concentration into hitting him with regular attacks and blocking. Job done - cruised through the fight and utterly slapped him!

Good job too - failing to complete a hard JRPG just weeks before Dark Souls 2 comes out, was just what my confidence didn't need! Still, its over now and I can bask in my victory!

Just started playing Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy. Anyone who has played a previous installment will find it familiar and easy to jump into.

Once again Layton is lured to another part of the world by his archaeology interests only to find himself in an exciting mystery. Starts off slow but as seen in the last 3DS game, they've added some action sequences, this time in the form of a fps shooter. It doesn't last long but it gets the heart racing for a minute or two.

I rarely use the 3D feature but there are some beautiful environments and backgrounds where it is begged to be used.

Hey Rev, don't write Alpha Protocol off just yet - there's always hope! The game has some goodwill from those who played it (you and me for a start, but the game does have friends out there for the quality of its writing etc). Sega just needs some realistic expectation that it would sell.

It looks like Obsidian will have a commercial hit in South Park, and that should do their reputation a power of good. So if they can ride that momentum and rattle the cash tin in front of the right people, then who knows? Because I *really* want another Alpha Protocol game. The boss fight against Konstantine Brayko in his 80's themed mansion is one of my highlights of the last gen!

Well... perhaps a kickstarter could be used, though I'm not really holding my breath. BioWare has the IP for Jade Empire (another game I really wanted a continuation to) and with Ray Myzuka and the other founder of BioWare having left sometime ago, that's just gathering dust... Sega lost the IP to Shenmue earlier this year, after holding it since the second game and nothing eventuated there sadly.

... Alpha Protocol, Jade Empire and Shenmue... I would love a continuation to all three of these, as they are great games imo.

On Topic : Got my White Mage from 41 to 43 last night, thanks to the XP bonus from Duty Roulette changing for Tanks to Healers during the dungeon run (got nearly 400k XP from two dungeon runs - Copperbell Mines and the Hundred Maws of Toto Rak). Well... I'm not sure how comparable those situations are. I never liked Jade Empire or Shenmue, for a variety of reasons. Alpha Protocol on the other hand just needed a bigger budget. It needed more development time and money to tighten up the controls, polish up the graphics, iron out bugs etc. I'd argue that Jade Empire and Shenmue's problems went way beyond simply needing more money (having to do all crate moving with the fork lift truck, day after day after day...?!).

That's just my opinion, of course - I know both games have plenty of fans. Like I'm probably the only guy in the world holding out for another Chase HQ game, but... damn, I really want it!

Well, Shenmue flopped utterly, so I know I'm not alone on this! Sega sunk huge amounts of cash into the game, but it tanked. The game developed a hardcore fanbase, and that was enough to get it a sequel, but that flopped too. I have many problems with Sega, but I can't blame them for dropping Shenmue - they spent enough on it, and gave it a huge marketing push (which they didn't do for plenty of other games they were developing or publishing (like Valkyria Chronicles, Vanquish, etc), but it still failed. What were they supposed to do - keep pumping money in, when it was clearly good money after bad? I was just one of many people who found the game world, plot and characters to be extremely boring. Some people liked it, but not nearly enough to cover the costs of making the games.

As for Jade Empire, it was made by the owners of Bioware. This was before EA took over, so the only reason they wouldn't do another one is if they didn't want to. Again, I can only offer anecdotal evidence for myself (everyone I know hated it for its boring characters and rock, paper, scissors combat). The best evidence is that in this industry, money talks. If Bioware were confident that the series had lots of goodwill and people chomping at the bit to buy a new installment, then they'd make it. But from what I've seen and in my own experience, Jade Empire remains bottom of the pile as far as Bioware is concerned (and many critics agree, not that you can really trust them).

To be clear, I didn't hate Jade Empire - I just thought the party of characters was unutterably dull, I didn't like the party size of you and 1 other, and I thought the main plot was absent for most of the game and squashed into the final third (when it finally started getting interested, it ended almost immediately after). But in its favour, it did have that 1942 style vertical scrolling shooter with the airship - which was absolutely awesome. I just loved the airships in general, with their cool look and those trails of smoke they made.

Anyway, back on topic, I'm still playing... nothing! Man, I cannot wait for Dark Souls 2...

@Vrykolas : Well, I enjoyed Shenmue on the Dreamcast and when the second came out (only in limited supply for the Dreamcast here in AUS, as the Dreamcast was sadly on it's last legs) I grabbed that too. I liked the story and the locations were well done. I admit Ryo Hazuki had about as much emotion as a brick wall (only other character who was like this, is Squall Leonhart from FFVIII), but I admired his determination to achieve his goal... something which we won't see sadly.

Jade Empire was made by BioWare before the dark days of EA... Ray Myzuka and the other guy in charge of BioWare, wanted to do a sequel but never got round to it due to other titles (one being a little known title called Mass Effect). There is a huge fanbase for JE, and Myzuka (and the other guy) knew that... they just never had the time to get around to it. The whole game was great (for me) as it played out like a Hong Kong Martial Arts movie (the ones with Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Chow Yun Fat, Sammo Hong, Sonny Chiba etc in), and the gameplay worked. Followed the KISS principle and it did work. I liked the party size in this game as it worked for the game and the characters in your group, are similar to ones the main character in the abovementioned movies gathers to them.

I liked both, as a fan of Asian cinema, they really appealed to me. Still... to each their own.

Well, I think you might be overselling the 'huge' fanbase for Jade Empire - it was a sales flop, as I recall. (I know sales don't tell the whole story by any means, but I've noticed much love for the game on the net). Even the insane folks over on the Bioware Social Network forums (bless their zealous little souls), don't seem to like it much. Shenmue also flopped - its unrealistic to expect companies to put in money after that. Sometimes they bring it on themselves with bad, non-existent or misleading marketing, executive meddling etc. But I don't that applies to either Jade Empire or Shenmue. They both had important developers personally overseeing them, were as well financed as the companies could afford, and both were promoted heavily before release. I'm not sure what else could have been done.

And I still don't hold with this whole 'dark days of EA'. I don't like them any more than you do, but they're unfortunately necessary. Without EA's money, Mass Effect 2 wouldn't have looked or performed as it did, neither would it have had all those unique, non-recycled environments. Bioware couldn't afford to make games on that scale before, and had to recycle environments heavily in KOTOR, Mass Effect 1 etc. It was a tradeoff joining up with EA, they lost a lot of independence and many feel that it wasn't worth it, but that's the cost of doing business these days. Without EA's backing, Mass Effect 2 wouldn't have had the production values to win over the mainstream.

Meanwhile, just look at Obsidian - with games like Fallout New Vegas, Planescape Torment, KOTOR 2 and Alpha Protocol, these guys have pumped out so many classic experiences. But because they're an independent company with no resources of their own, no rich backers like EA etc, they can't afford to polish the games to the standard that the mainstream demand. All those games are classics, but the mainstream don't want to know, because they don't look or play like AAA games - and that is entirely a money issue. Handling a beloved (by some anyway) property like South Park nets them easy publicity and sales, and in the South Park creators, they were dealing with anti-establishment people who happen to have the money. Its a very specific exception to how the industry usually works.

It sucks, but money makes the world go round. I hate South Park (the franchise), but I might buy the game out of customer loyalty to Obsidian. Those guys deserve a hit.

They the ones in the Sunken Airship? If so, they're pretty much the toughest regular foes in the game - they are guarding lots of unique weapons, summons, limits etc after all. Its best to just run through, grab all the gear, run from the baddies and return later (the Unknowns are probably the best enemies in the game to farm for AP).

Also, the game does name the locations. Just look on the menu screen, and it tells you the name of your current location..

Hey, I miss stuff in plain sight all the time too! You get so caught up in what you're doing, that you just don't see it, I guess. I remember finishing Demon's Souls without realizing that wearing less armour made you move faster (I thought it worked like Fallout, where you're fine until you exceed the limit, then can't move). I felt like a prize idiot when I realized how hard I'd made things for myself!

If its instant KO that's getting you in FF7, just put 'Added Effect' paired with a 'Contain' materia (you can get one in Mideel I think) into a piece of armour, and that makes you immune to instant death. Very handy in the final dungeon, because of those guys with Cross Scissor, and Lvl 5 Death etc. The Northern Cave can be a real pain otherwise.

FF7 is one of those games that really does reward you seeking out the extra special stuff - it doesn't have any post game or secret dungeons, so all the special items are designed to be of actual use in the main game. Breeding the Gold Chocobo is an almighty pain, but it pays off when you get Knights of the Round, Mime, Quadra Magic etc etc. Same with the Battle Arena and Omnislash - torture to get through, but well worth the pain IMO.

Sephiroth is pretty tough - one of the harder final bosses in the FF series IMO (at least from FF6 onwards). Most people forget how tough he is, because they do the Gold Chocobo quest, and he (like everyone else in the game) is a joke once you have Knights of the Round. Fight him properly though, and he's pretty damn strong. Bizarro's pretty easy (just annoying, because of how he works), but Safer has tons of HP, throws out brutal attacks quickly, and makes frequent use of buffs and debuffs.

EDIT: Well done you! And how awesome does it feel to kill him? That's one of the great things about JRPGs - they have really tough bosses, but when you beat them, you get such a rush! Its kind of like Highlander, but with less severed heads...

Really? 30 quid for a game that lasts less than 2 hours is too rich for me!

If you like Metal Gear that much, then all power to you - its your money after all. But I worry about the message this sort of thing sends out. If game publishers realize we will pay near full price for little more than a demo, then are we just supposed to trust that EA and Activision won't start doing the same?

Again, this isn't some accusation or 'You're contributing to the downfall of our hobby - be ashamed!' finger pointing - people are free to buy what they want, and don't need to justify why they do so. I just think it was a really depressing thing for Konami to do, because it seems to be preying on people's love for Metal Gear in a nakedly greedy way. And developers always take the wrong cues from this sort of stuff - i.e they might assume that people think its okay to pay this much for so little, when actually they're paying because they love Metal Gear. Same as EA's infamous 'people love paying for DLC content' or the success around Assassin's Creed 4 etc - most people liked it because it was an open world pirate adventure game, but the message that Ubisoft took from it, was that people wanted lots and lots more Assassin's Creed...

Just finished Tales of the Abyss on the 3DS. It was okay I suppose, but it felt less enjoyable and fun than the other Tales games I've played. The main story in Tales games usually aren't all that important to the overall experience, but this game was pretty much all main story. I hardly did any side quests and it still took me nearly 50 hours to complete (did a lot of grinding as that's always a necessity for these games, but it was still a really, really long campaign - usually a JRPG will last around 30 hours if you're only doing the main story).

The technobabble was confusing as hell, and there were many times when I had very little true understanding of what was going on. But it did have some really awesome moments and ideas (there's an awesome sequence where armies of soldiers are fighting on this huge plain, as fleets of gigantic land battleships trundle about, firing broadsides and jousting with each other with these huge lances fixed to their fronts. That sequence = ultimate win!) I felt like the game had some promise but my apathy to the characters prevented me from really connecting with the game - the cast are fine, and have decent stories in theory, but I don't feel like I ever had that moment where we clicked and I could really come on board with them.

All in all, it was a decent enough game for a knockabout, but probably my least favorite Tales games that I've played to this point. Just never managed to capture any personal emotional investment from me.

Had to format my HDD, lost all my games.

My WiFi is having issues, and I can't get a wired connection to my PS3.

So... I'd like to download my profile (with my trophy info) and all my game saves (I'm a PSN+ member) from my PC to my PS3.

I know about the USB part, but I can't seem find the files on Sony's website.

I absolutely HATED Luke, even after he "changed". What an awful main character. He alone made me want to quit the game entirely. However, I loved the rest of the characters (especially Jade) and fairly enjoyed the story and gameplay, so I dealt with it.

Yeah, Luke is a pain but I freely admit that I hate that style of character anyway - i.e characters who are 'Utter Jerk to begin with, but learns the value of friendship and teamwork etc etc. Characters like Tidus from Final Fantasy X, Altair from Assassin's Creed, Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII etc etc - they just annoy me. There inevitably comes a point where I throw the controller away and shout 'F**k this character!' I don't care what their sob stories are - characters who act like utter jerks really grind my gears.

As for the story in Abyss, it was okay but I really could have done without those parts where the characters start technobabbling. Its something the Tales series always do, but its never been this bad in the other games - 'Fon artes, the Seventh Fonists and the Fifth Fonists, use Fomicry and Isofons to sing Fonic symphonies, so using Fonstones we can use the Sephiroth Trees and the Planet Storm Fonons from the Fonic Belt, so long as we manage the Miasma, the Passage Rings and the Replicated replicas with their matching Fonic frequencies, plus the replicated Fonons to... ARRGGHH! ENOUGH! I GIVE IN!!! JUST PUT IN A DUNGEON AND LET ME KILL SOMETHING - PLEASE!'

I'm exaggerating of course, but some sections do come very close to that level of utter gibberish. There are lots of really great moments, but with an annoying main character, badly explained lore (seriously - to understand many of the key concepts and events that get talked about, you have to visit the damn library, because it isn't explained anywhere else!), endless enforced traipsing to and fro around the locations just to get short conversations that basically repeat what you already knew, and yet another massively strung out final Act that should have ended at least 10 hours before it does... playing this game was a pretty arduous experience at times.

Anyway, speaking of Final Fantasy X, I went against my better judgement and downloaded it onto my Vita. I managed about 5 minutes of Tidus and turned it off. The voice acting on that character... gah!

Finally got my Black Mage (http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/character/2354722/) to level 50 in Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn, so I now have all Disciplines of Magic at 50. Working on Maruader would be easy, as it's a Tank class and they are ALWAYS sought after for Dungeon XP runs (Tanks are the most sought after, next being Healer), but I really want to level Lancer or Archer... but as DPS classes the wait for a Dungeon XP run is always rather lengthy due to the ease of play they are. Ahh well... Taking a break and focusing more on Fire Emblem Path of Radiance. So far, favorite character is the Knight, Titania... seriously, any battle with her is a instant win.

Finally got the last piece of the Crimson set for my Black Mage and Summoner in Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn on PS3...

My Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn Character (http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/character/2354722/)

So now have to get my act together and get my relic weapon for SMN... but with my LS. Not going to do the fights for the quest line with randoms.

... so, gonna head back into Crystal Tower as White Mage and get the rest of the Royal Gear, which'll give me a better chance as I have only one healer to compete with in my alliance for 'em. Got the Royal Crown and Royal Breeches in the same run as I got my Crimson Breeches... so have the Royal Celestial Gloves, Royal Vest, Royal Sash and Royal Boots... WHICH... if I'm 'INCREDIBLY' lucky, I could theoretically get all four pieces in one entire run (as there are four bosses in the tower, and the pieces I'm after have a chance from dropping from each boss)...

Also as a Healer, my wait time for a run should be considerably lower than as a DPS. I hope

I'll be honest, I liked the beginning and middle portion of it, but close to the end, I felt it was going on far too long, and I felt that it should've just ended with a cut-scene like the first one. Plus, some of the game braking bugs kinda ruined the game for me. The music's good, though, especially the menu music.

I played FF10 again too. Time has not altered my opinions of it (i.e its too short, has a weak, badly developed plot and an extremely irritating main character). But I was pleased to find that I still really enjoy playing Blitzball. Beating the Luca Goers is easily one of the highlights of that game. It comes at a time when the game hits a sweet spot, as (the laughing scene notwithstanding) everything from Luca up to and including Operation Mi'hen is excellent.

Its just a shame that the rest of the game is so meh.
