Actually it's a huge improvement over the debacle that is Dynasty Warriors 6... only Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires redeemed that installment... though not by much. The seventh installment is pretty decent, the battlefields are similar to the ones in DW6, but more detailed. A lot more new characters this time and a 'Conquest Mode', which is somewhat similar to the Empires games in the series, but more streamlined.

A port. You'd be surprised how well it translated to console. You'd also be surprised by how many bugs and framerate issues it has.
I had to play it once on PS2, because I couldn't get the damn thing to work on my video card no matter how hard I tried. There's no difference compared to the PC version, just a different UI and a pretty sweet CGI movie of the opening video.

I actually thought Mario Kart Wii was pretty good, I finished the Single Player mode properly and my weekend group of friends and I used to multiplayer it quite frequently. And that sports game thing is probably Wii Sports, I assume.
Also, Parasite Eve II was boss.
MarioKart Wii is awesome. Wii Sports is fine for a few party sessions, but MarioKart has a greater lasting appeal.

Eh, it doesn't have as much single player content as Mario Kart DS. It also has some of the worst rubber banding AI in the series. Oh and the drifting mechanic is so mediocre in Mario Kart Wii I pretty much exclusively used bikes.
There are way better party games you could be playing on the Wii anyway.

I loved Mario Kart Wii, though I never played with the Wii Wheel, just the Wiimote and Nunchuck. As for Wii Sports, it's not really got any longevity but it was a good way of exampling what the Wii does and so I suppose it did its job.

First impressions (as in only a hour or so of play) of Dead Island are generally positive.
The way your character moves feels a bit strange (you sort of seem to glide along, like you're levitating just off the ground), but otherwise, it seems quite sound. Game looks very nice indeed, and the setting is far more to my liking than most zombie games/movies etc (i.e its played deadly serious, and not for cheap laughs - feels a lot like Bioshock).
Didn't have much time to play it today, so that's all I've got at the moment, but it does seem like a game that I'm going to get along with just fine. And that's surprising, as I'm not much for zombies, usually.

The chief problem with games like Space Marine and Dead Island (i.e decent but still pretty much B list) is cost - if they charged less for these kinds of titles, they'd sell by the truckload through positive word of mouth, and nobody would feel short changed.
Alas, this industry is less about 'You get what you pay for' and more about 'We'll take 'em for what we think we can get'.

I think an Enderman has been digging away at my castle wall, as there are some random blocks missing from the structure. I should probably put some lightstone blocks in there, that way there will be less mobs spawning in the hollow structure.

I can't guarantee you'll like it. It's first and foremost a puzzle game, and a damn good one at that. The story seems incosisent at times and it's difficult to keep your interest in it because it's very clearly divided into the nightmare/puzzle and bar/NPC-interaction sections. It's absolutely worth checking out mostly because it's unlike anything you've ever played and it tackles the issue of love and relationships better than any other game I've seen. I paid a lot of money to import it from the Canada a few days after it came out and I don't regret it onebit. But that's because Catherine was exactly the kind of game for me and I can't guarantee the same for you. I definitely recommend it for the puzzle gameplay, that part is top-notch, among the best of the best, but the story, while good, has some questionable bits, which I'm not going to mention (spoilers). If there's anything at all you'd like to ask, I'd be more than happy to answer, hit me with a PM.

Currently playing minecraft. I've found my first redstone ore and diamond ore and I was happy but when I was placing my cobblestone to prevent diamond from falling in the lava, somehow, my dumb-ass fell in the lava(even though I was holding shift to prevent my self from falling), lost everything, including the redstone and dimond I found. You have no idea how much my nerd rage was. XD
So I've got the toomanyitems mod, and got the stuff I've needed back so that way, it won't feel like it was all for nothing. I love minecraft regardless. But I swear, it's designed to screw you over and piss you off occasionally lol.

Alternating between Dragon Age II (After more achievements), Red Dead Redemption (Something soothing about just riding along a ridge with the sun setting), GTAIV: The Lost and Damned (as this and the other expansion (Ballard of Gay Tony) are far more enjoyable than the main GTAIV) and back in Stilwater in Saints Row 2 (In preparation for Saints Row The Third).

I bought it a few days ago with the purpose of playing it right away. It came in the mail today, so I've started going through. It took me longer to go through the first stage than in either of the previous MegaMan X games. Either it's because the game likes to be cheap, or I'm rusty at my MegaMans skeelz.
Either way, it's fun. Though, I'll tell you that the VO could be a lot better. They shoulda used the same voice actor to play X, as they did in the prequel anime. Now X sounds emotionless, Zero sounds like Master Chief, and Axl would be far less annoying if you could skip the dialog.

I've been through the other six titles plus all of the Original Series. I've been going through them in order, so I haven't experienced last generation's MegaMan titles just yet. For a game I came cold into (without prior knowledge of reviews), I really don't think it's all that bad.

Was given Star Trek Legacy and Assassin's Creed on Xbox 360 for my birthday last thursday, so decided to have some space combat fun in Legacy. The one thing I truly do like about Star Trek, was the design of the starships and the battles (Looking at season 7 of Star Trek Deep Space Nine here, for the battle of the Dominion vs the Alpha Quadrant. A whole season which was about 80% space battles...).
After I've had my fill of spacing Klingons, blitzkreiging Romulans and annihilating Borg, I'll give Assassin's Creed a try. If I don't like it... got plenty of preorders I could trade it towards...

FF3 is the worst of the series IMO - the difficulty of reviving party members when they go down nearly killed me, never mind my characters!
Anyway, I hopped back onto Fallout: New Vegas to mop up the last DLC, Lonesome Road. Have to say it was very disappointing, and probably the worst of the 4 DLC packs. It feels really rushed and thrown together compared to the other 3, which were all pretty solid (Honest Hearts could have been better, but it still beats Lonesome Road).

I only just got around to playing FF3 a few months ago. I played the fans translated NES version, since the DS version sounded painfully slow. I thought it was easily the best of the first three games. It has a Dragon Quest feel to it that I really like.
As for 13, it isn't really the worst of the series. For most people, I'd say 13 is better than most of the early games. The early games have some pretty clunky gameplay that anybody new to the series just isn't going to want to put up with.
This is how I'd list the series from best to worst, right now
12 > 9 > 10 = 10-2 > 7 > 8 > 5 > 4 > 13 > 6 > 3 > 1 > 2
My opinion on this changes all the time though.

I haven't played FF1, and only a couple of hours of FF2 (but that was enough!) The issue I had with FF3, was that when people get KO'd, it is all but impossible to raise them again, without an unusual amount of effort. There are hardly any phoenix downs, and no Life spells that I remember (not early on, anyway).
Together with the totally personality-free party of 'characters' (other than the mage kid, who is actively annoying), that game was a joyless chore.
chewey
09-26-2011, 03:19 PM
Did you play the NES or the DS version? The characters weren't all that dull in the fan translation, but their personality could have easily been injected.
As for the death problem, most towns I went to had a spring that would revive dead characters. If I remember correctly, you might even be able to revive fallen party members at a chuch DQ-style. I can't remember, since I only played it for maybe 4 hours a few months ago.
As far as FFIII goes, I agree with their decision to give the characters an identity (as opposed to nameless 'Onion Knights') but it does seem to be a wasted effort considering they still have zero individuality :-/ What little is there is monotonously clich and uninspiring. But, they were remaking it in light of the original, to appease both old and new fans. I think what we got is fine, considering the old FFs are all about the gameplay anyway, and III is the most challenging of the initial three IMO. I'm probably a little more spoiled with easier games that have more story, which is why I'm not as able to get into FFIII, but I can still appreciate what they tried to do and I think the figures speak for themselves; SE executed a winning formula. Chewey said it, but I'll reiterate; towns in the first three FFs all conveniently come equipped with a handy chapel to raise those fallen freedom fighters from the grave (except, he didn't say it douchily like I did >.<). I have never beaten FFIII, but I'm far enough to say it is probably my least favorite of the series, as of now. Like Chewey, my favorites change constantly. Right now X's my favorite–although that could just be the jitters from the recent news of the HD remake (or port, whatever you wanna call it) for PS3 and Vita.

Being able to revive in a church (I can't remember if you can do this either, its been ages since I played it), doesn't help in the middle of fights though, does it? Later on in the game, dungeons get very long, you're being constantly barraged with random battles, and the save points are often miles apart (and there are some really long dungeons, with tough bosses and no save points).
Having character KO being so severe under these circumstances (in what is already a very hard game), slowly wore me down, until I just couldn't go on. I like a challenge, but FF3 was just brutal.

Come on, you're killing me here Rev - you've not played through ME1 on Hardcore?! That's the only way to play!
I don't mean that in a snobbish, 'you should only play games on hard' way - just that Mass Effect is 10 times more fun on Hardcore. Its a proper challenge, but never an unfair one. You actually have to manage your squad's powers and upgrades properly, lure enemies into firezones, choose squad members who are going to be more useful than others etc etc.
Seriously, play on Hardcore and you'll *never* want to play on it on an easier setting ever again. Insanity is just ridiculous though (in both games), and the difficulty slows your progress down so much, that the game is no longer enjoyable. Its just a massive grind, for inches of progress at a time.

I made the mistake of not sticking to either Paragon or Renegade on my first Hardcore playthrough, so I actually had to fight Saren at the end. Oh Boy, was that an epic struggle! He's so much harder at the end, than he is on Virmire. His shields regen like *instantly*!
(Saren/Sovereign is still just as easy as always if you take anyone with Lift though (which you shouldn't really do, at least against him, as its practically cheating).
AI Hacking was one of the last Achievements I got too, simply because there are always better things to be doing to AI opponents (like shooting them, for instance!) I got it on Ilos, right at the start. I hid behind the starting set of pillars, ordered my team mates behind the Mako and told them to stay there, then let a Geth Solider approach. He never moves past the pillar, just stays at the other end on it, inches from you, firing away.
So I just kept poking out and hacking him for about half an hour, until I got the nod!
And I wouldn't know about COD - that series is the epitome of yearly update, cookie cutter hack work.

I'll give that a try, think I have a save file on a earlier Shepard on Ilos too... and thanks for the 'Lift' tip against Saren... never used that before, so I'll give it a try ^^ (Won't be as easy as one shotting the Reaper Core on the Dead Reaper in ME2 to get the IFF with the Cain... but if it makes it easier, I'm down with it. I just want that damn achievement and unlock Insanity >.<)

Lift only works on Saren/Sovereign (i.e the very last fight, when Saren's corpse has been possessed). It doesn't work at all on regular Saren on his skyboard. Phasic rounds and the like are the way to go against him, if you actually fight him at the end.
Which you usually don't have to, because you can Paragon/Renegade persuade him, but I was too neutral to do that on my first Hardcore playthrough. Basically, I wanted every last XP point I could lay my hands on, and decided not to use Paragon/Renegade persuades to avoid fights etc throughout the game, so by the end, I didn't have enough to force him to commit suicide.
And he was a real bastard, I tell you now. He's still pretty easy on Virmire, but his shield regen rate in the Council Chamber fight is just insane. Because he's zipping all over the place ruining your aim, jamming your guns and replenishing his shields in the blink of an eye, he's controller crushingly annoying!

Turok as in the first Turok game? The one with that crazy series of pillars you had to jump across to get part of the Chronosceptre? Just thinking about that damn part gives me the chills. But it sure did make the Campaigner a lot easier to beat, so it was worth it in the end.
Not only that, but a series of pillars at the end of level three each requiring near-transhuman speed and agility to reach >.< Yes, Turok 1 is an amazing game–a major percentage of my childhood! It was the game that desensitized me to graphic violence and, well, violence in general.
For taking an obscure comic book hero and turning his tale into an epic shooter without much story exposition at all, Acclaim deserves all the praise and more that the game earned them :) I swear, Turok 1, 2, and 3 is one of the best trilogies in gaming I've ever played, what with the increasingly well-executed progression in graphics, story, characterization, action, controls–everything. Not that the changes between installments are monumentally noticeable, of course, but each feels far more polished than the last (as it should be, I suppose).
I used to go all-out with cheat codes as a kid once I'd beat each game, but my gaming tastes have changed nowadays and I prefer not to spoil the authenticity with cheat codes :) Much as I love Bioshock, it sure is nice to play a game with real challenge where you can actually die sometimes

Indeed I do as well ^^ Turok games have kickass soundtracks; particularly the Ancient Village theme, the Lost Land / Final Confrontation overworld theme and the Primagen's Lightship theme from Turok 2. Truly badass tunes that every shooter fan should know. Something about those ethereal tribal drums and horns is just so fitting for a game where alien, dinosaur and man unite. I haven't even played N64 since about 2007 (not counting the stint in Michigan where I turned on my ex's N64 to erase the bitch's data) and the Turok trilogy popped immediately into my head :) No more cheat codes; I'm goin' in with guns blazin' and I ain't quittin' till I've slit every last raptor's throat with mah knife if I has ta!!!
In light of my recent N64 craze, I decided to pop in some Yoshi's Story, a game I scarcely recall playing since I was in grade school–early grade school. It all feels so familiar, yet so foreign. Turok 2 was my favourite - that game was practically welded into my N64 for months after I bought it! I love the various worlds and baddies in that game, and its just a shame that the N64's technology found it a bit difficult to cope with the game at times. And yeah, with all those HD remakes, I'd be well up for a Turok Trilogy HD makeover.
And Bioshock as well - does the good taste on this thread know no bounds?! Still in my Top 5 from this entire Gen of consoles.

Yes, or rather I did have it until about a fortnight ago - I recently had to chuck a load of stuff out, because my house can only hold so much, and I figured that there was no real point hanging onto my N64 anymore, as I'd never be likely to use it again.
Man, that was a sad day. But the fact is, the best N64 games are pretty much all available elsewhere now (on the various DS consoles primarily), and I needed the space. So a Turok 2 makeover (or Turok Trilogy) would be heartily appreciated.

obviously.
but i will never spend money upgrading pcs.
systems and games tend to go higher in value overtime.
anyone can have a pc, not everyone can have the complete virtual boy game collection
selling my second virtual boy is enough to buy me a new pc capable of playing BF3 twice.
yet i dont want to.

i dont have the hand-mind coordination to press a key when needed, i first look at the key before i press it (unless i type).

The two console versions are essentially the same. The PS3 has a (very, very, VERY) slightly larger resolution but that's about it. The console versions of BF3 seem a little underwhelming, to be honest. The framerate is the most jarring thing, for sure.

I am still playing ff tactics, and its kicking my ass.
I got to the library, and those damned lancers are annoying as heck.
They seem to be very vulnerable to dark for some reason, but resist stuff that comes with no act.
They hit really REALLY hard. One of them lancers jumped in the air and did 175 damage.
I was thinking after i beat ff tactics,if i beat it,to go back to ff5 or perhaps ff8.
I have never beaten ff8,and i want to at least be able to say i beat it.Same goes for ff5.
I have several possibilities so far to beat in mind:
FF8
FF5
Ultima7
Ultima underworld
Oblivion And dragon age origins.

Persona 3 - not actually as crazy as I was expecting it to be (not yet anyway and despite the fact that your schoolkid characters cast their spells by shooting themselves in the head!), but I'm really, really enjoying it, all the same.

Persona 1 had first person dungeons, and you could buy guns. Really you could be describing anything from the original NES Megemi Tensei games, to the Saturn/PS1 Devil Summoner games, or even the latest Shin Megami Tensei game for DS.

not actually as crazy as I was expecting it
That's probably the biggest problem with P3. It's just so boring. Nothing ever happens. Most of the characters are shallow and uninteresting, the drama is either pathetic or non existent and the gameplay (if I can call it that) is lacking.

I'm like that with certain games. Amnesia: The Dark Descent and the F.E.A.R. games scare me so much that I have trouble playing them.
It's just a sign of a good developer.

F.E.A.R 1 maybe, but the other 2?!
They're fairly decent shooters, but they're not scary in the slightest. But the first one... now, that was a fine game. (I did enjoy the final level of F.E.A.R 3 though. They should have made the whole game more like that - the rest of the levels all feel a bit pointless and 'generic shooter').

The game is considerably harder than other MMX games. While most people think it was downright awful, it was enjoyable to a certain degree. The soundtrack was pretty good as well. I think you may enjoy X8 better though if you haven't played it yet.
After having some quality time with this game, I now have something to say to those who think this game is too difficult: If you think MegaMan X7 is too hard, then you should play through all the Original Series MegaMan games, and then all the earlier MegaMan X titles, cause I can tell you one thing, MMX7 is far more forgiving than any of those other titles. Heck, even the boss rush allows you to continue from where you left off, even when you game over. Or when you game over, you spawn at your most recent checkpoint within a level, not at the beginning of the level like every other MegaMan title. Sure it's harder than your average third person shooter, but it's not quite as difficult as those earlier games. :P
Just sayin'

And what was yur view on megaman x against the final boss?
That dog boss and the big hand enemy are basically an endurance test.
Sigma is a pain in the ass,but that whole thing where he wall jumps up,can be avoided really easy.
I ended up being good at avoiding damage in the second part of the final battle in mmX.
The final part,i found out that you could jump on sigma's hands by wall jumping, and running away towards the hands to avoid his fire attack.
Oh yeah:You have to obviously watch out for his hands which attack you and also have a lightning attack.
I died a few times in this boss.

There is a pattern for taking out Sigma's robot dog using the ice weapon. My very first attempt at fighting it was difficult, but once you figure out it's pattern, it's pretty easy.
As for the final version of Sigma, charge up the Shield weapon and have it surround you and then jump near Sigma's head. Takes him out in 4 or 5 touches.
