Been flailing about for something (anything really) new to play, but very little's caught my fancy at the moment. Games drought + Seemingly Endless Heatwave = Abject Misery.
But, I did play some games.
Not a new game obviously, but I went on a Dragon Age: Origins bender to try and deaden the pain of having to wait so long for Inquisition. Played it through 3 times to mop up all the trophies and experience the Origins I hadn't previously used, see the various DLC packs etc etc and frankly I never want to see that game again now! (Just joking - but seriously, don't try that at home!)
Had a spin on Resident Evil Revelations. Cracking game, one of the very best RE games of recent times. Decent story, likable new characters (Jill and Chris aren't used very well though - they're unconnected almost completely to the game's central story, certainly compared to all the new characters, which makes them a bit of a strange choice to be the main characters as they have no real personal stake in what's happening). Great game though - a 'proper' RE game again at last! That last boss though... holy christ, that sod whupped me so many times before I got him!
Took a jaunt through Remember Me. A sort of decentish game, that really wasn't as good as I was hoping. It had its moments and some of the memory remixes were pretty cool, but... Not a bad game, but not really a very good one either.
Oh, and Bioshock Infinite. It was... meh. Never really clicked with me (and I love the Bioshock series as a rule). I liked the eccentric Lutesc twins, and frankly without them, I probably wouldn't have made it through the game. Couldn't really find the motivation to care about anyone else. The vigors seemed really out of place, and didn't appear to have any in game justification. I mean it was an okay game and all, but I can't see what all the fuss was about.
Had a go on that new Tomb Raider actually, as well. It was pretty good I thought, but I'm probably not the best judge, seeing as how I hated Tomb Raider in the past. Again, it wasn't really anything that special, but it did a turn.
But yeah, its been a lean old time, this year. Had a good laugh about the the Xbox One launch, but I'm willing to let bygones be bygones now that they've canned the 'always has to be online' nonsense. Neither console has any exclusives I care about, so I'm not willing to fly my colours for either ship just yet.

Coincidence about Dodo playing Broken Sword - I was just playing it through again on my DS. Always loved that game, but then I love the Knights Templar full stop. Really wish that more of the old adventure games would be ported to the current handhelds. Beneath a Steel Sky, Grim Fandango, Gabriel Knight - give em to me! Again! I really will buy them again!

Funny you should mention about "Beneath a Steel Sky". On GOG, a summer sale was going on last month and they were giving 10 old games away for free, including Torchlight, and one of the old games was "Beneath a Steeal Sky. I never played it before since I never had a computer back in the day. Since it's from the same company that made the Broken Sword series, I might enjoy it.

Before replaying ME 3 after finishing ME 2, I'm going to watch Mass Effect: Paragon Lost first since it takes place some time before the events of ME 3.
Don't bother... Paragon Lost rewrites things stated in ME3 and conflicts badly. The anime style is pretty poor as well. A lot of people on the BioWare Social Network and other forums have all slammed it, just like they did to the fourth ME novel, Deception (Which BioWare has acknowledged contains discrepancies with other Mass Effect lore).
Playing Dynasty Warriors 8 and enjoying myself immensely.

Fans never like continuity changes, and I sympathise completely. But the fact is, they happen all the time. Sometimes the discrepancies are mistakes (Zevran and Leliana's continued existence in DA2 even if they died in DA:O), but other times the writers just feel certain things work better done a little differently (omni gel no longer opening all locks ever made everywhere).
There is plenty of retcon in the games. Its never good when it happens, but its just one of those things. Quality of product is the only thing that really matters IMO. Continuity issues all eventually sort themselves out in the end.
Darth Revan
08-03-2013, 04:12 AM
Not in the case of Mass Effect Paragon Lost... one major change involving James Vega in the anime and then in the game (especially as the game came out BEFORE the anime)...
At the end of Paragon Lost, James is inducted into the N7 Program as a reward by Captain Anderson and Admiral Hackett for his actions... yet in the game, James approaches Shepard in Shepard's cabin and says how he has just been invited to join the N7 Program and asks for advice. Continuity is thrown out the window there...
Then there's the fourth ME novel, Deception... and look at the ire that caused, to where even BioWare denounced it themselves and have stated that they are working on a newer version which'll fit in with the previous three novels, as well as the games and comics. The quality of the anime, the art style, the voice acting... everything... is all subpar. That's not just my opinion, but the general consensus regarding Paragon Lost on the BioWare Social Network, other forums, even on Youtube where there are full versions available and the comment sections are full of negativity towards it.
Tanis
08-03-2013, 04:14 AM
Paragon Lost is a cheap cash grab that has more in common with a McDonald's kid's toy than an ACTUAL anime movie.
And this is coming from someone who think the whole ME series is just 'okay'.
No fanboy crap here.

Decided to watch Paragon Lost after finishing up on Feros. Call me crazy, but I thought it was really good. I can see that continuity error Darth Revan pointed out(I didn't read the spoiler before watching the movie) and it doesn't really bother me. The animation was very nice and the voice acting was good, especially on Freddie Prinze Jr.'s part, imo . I personally don't see anything wrong with the animation and voice acting, but whatever. I usually have low expectations. I want the soundtrack now after hearing it in the movie :P. It's too bad the both of you didn't enjoy it, but it's no big deal.
I'll be getting back to Mass Effect in the morning.

Well, as continuity errors go, I don't really consider that something to get all hot and bothered about. Its a foolish... error (if it actually is an error, as it seems more likely that its an intentional rewrite, given that the actor if nobody else would know it contradicts his earlier work). Its really stupid, whatever the reasoning.
But like I say, these things happen. It really bugged me in ME3 for example, when Joker cracked his knuckles in preparation for some 'ace piloting' - that is something he would *never* do, as with his Vrolik's Symdrome, it would almost certainly lead to severe damage to his hands! Given that they were in the middle of a space battle, and hands being of the utmost importance to a pilot, its like if a star baseball player upon stepping up to bat, turned to his coach and said 'Hey, I'm feeling so good today, that I'm going to smash my bat with crippling ferocity into my arms and legs a dozen times for luck - that's the ticket!'
And besides, compared to characters magically being alive when they should be dead like in Dragon Age, it pales into insignificance IMO (because that is actually undermining distinct and important choices that people have made). Nothing kills the illusion quite so much as seeing someone appear when you saw and participated in the scene where they died. To do that without even offering any explanation or justification was terrible. In contrast, this is an error from a spin off extra about a character who is only in 1 of the 3 games, and who is a fairly minor part of the series (the whole information he gives you on that subject is completely optional as well).
DoDoRay9000
08-04-2013, 02:35 AM
Alright, now onto Mass Effect 2.
Hm, I don't remember Joker popping his knuckles, but that's probably because I only played the ME 3 campaign once. It wouldn't have bother me anyway, because I can just pretend that his bones have probably improved in some certain way while at the same time not giving a crap. But that's just me. =)
Vrykolas
08-04-2013, 03:05 AM
It doesn't bother me in an 'Arrggh, that's it, I'm done with this game!' kind of way - its just annoying that they take a character, with a disability that they flag up all the time, then have him do something so blatantly out of character. Fans often get far too worked up over continuity issues - I'm usually pretty relaxed about them, unless they directly undermine my choices in the game (or from previous games).
That doesn't mean I don't wince when I see continuity errors though. One of the big selling points of the series was that you would get to carry over a character, have your choices matter, see how things pan out etc. That means continuity is of the utmost importance, but Bioware are extremely cavalier about in ME and DA. Basically, its a case of 'Your choices matter and the world will be consistent - unless we don't agree with your choices and need the world to do something specific'.
Anyway, I'm playing Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. The new one's out in the next few months, so I'm going to play 'em all again in readiness.

You should hand out a prize for anyone who can guess how many "Last of Us''s there are in that last post. Seriously though, enthusiasm for a game is one thing, but... Unless you meant that you're some kind of Doctor Octopus clone, and you're playing it that many times at once. That would actually be really useful for doing multiple playthroughs of RPGs... hmm.
Anyway, I'm playing Advance Wars 2 - just one copy of it.

I downloaded Ride To Hell: Retribution on the PC to see how bad it really is and, well, I now see how bad it is. So glad I didn't waste 30$ dollars on it. When I first saw it on a shelf at Gamestop, I was interested until I saw the review scores for it as well as watching this video (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA3vijm17Bs) recently. I remember hearing about this game(known as just Ride to Hell)in 2007 or 2008 and it looked interesting. It's very sad seeing how this turned out. It's like the devs gave up knowing this wasn't going to turn out good. Only good thing about the game is the music, I really like it. I personally give it a 3 out of 10. It's somewhat playable, has nice music, but that's about it.
I'm going to play Shogun 2 after I get RTH: Retribution off my computer.

I never did get round to playing that, but its stayed on my radar just about. Suda's been a bit off the boil recently IMO. Killer7 is one of my most treasured gaming experiences, simply because of how utterly crazy it is. But his more recent stuff... meh. I guess I judge him more harshly because I consider him to be one of the only remaining hopes for gaming to break out of its risk averse, terminally 'play it safe' rut that its in right now.
Speaking of treasured memories though, I had a classic Resident Evil a-thon this weekend. Downloaded RE2 and RE3 to my Vita, dragged out the Gamecube for RE1 remake and RE0. Even after all this time, those games are still amazing. Still can't get used to the Vita's method of L2 and R2 buttons (it uses a touchpad on the back of the Vita, which makes holding the damn thing a real pain sometimes). I didn't even know the Vita had such a thing, until I was playing Symphony of the Night a couple of months ago, and found myself constantly shifting into Wolf Form!
But yeah, the old RE games. Good times, good times.

I've been playing the life out of Disgaea 3 Absence of Detention. I've spent a lot of time in the Item World, leveling and prepping (storing mana) so that I can get all the DLC included characters post story. I like that this port included human class unique attacks (Overload is an awesome early learned attack based on RES for the healer).

Took a look at the 2 DLC packs for Resident Evil 5. 'Desperate Escape' was okay, with some truly ferocious combat, but it felt really light on story and character - a missed opportunity for Jill and Josh both really.
"Lost In Nightmares' however... now that's what I'm talking about! A proper old time RE survival horror feel, and proof that Capcom can still do survival horror when they want to - they just sadly don't seem to want to do it anymore. But on this evidence, I can't understand why not, because whilst very short, LIN is everything that old RE fans have been pining for. I felt genuinely tense throughout (and I almost jumped out of my skin when that dead body landed on my character!)
Please, please go back to making RE games like this, Capcom! I'll pay any price!

I never played Final Fantasy XIV(I can't afford to play sub-based games), but why on earth did they do that?
Because they're angry about the server disruptions and trouble people having logging in. The game has done very well, beyond SE's initial expectations and thus, they need to create more servers to handle the demand (which the upcoming 12 hour maintenance today/tomorrow will introduce). Because of this, the American players who agreed with that post on the FFXIV forums are doing it deliberately to make JP (and others who play on JP servers) players suffer like they are.

Tales of Xilia (who comes up with these names - doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, does it?)
Its pretty good and whilst obviously rushed in some regards, its better than Tales of Graces in all the areas that really matter to me (i.e characters, tone and story - though the story still isn't that great, its just better better than the one from Graces). Its better written overall than Graces (far less meledrama), and its darker and more sober to boot, which suits me just fine.
But yeah, there's a *lot* of reused environments, enemies etc, and the combat system is extremely basic compared to Graces' excellent system. Like all the Tales games, it makes terrible use of its main plot and villains for the most part. Huge, huge swathes of game will go by, with little to no appearances from any major villains, and with absolutely no progress made on any kind of larger plot at all. Just lots of wandering the wilderness, much back and forth between identical ports, and a whole load of completely secondary quests and plotlines.
So basically, its a Tales game, with everything that implies. A bit dodgy in most of its technical aspects and systems maybe, but the characters and darker tone interest me, and Graces didn't manage to do that. So in my book, its a better game and one of the better JRPGs of recent times.

Its a real shame that Cing went under, because this and Hotel Dusk are some of the best written games I've ever played. The characterization and attention to detail are exceptional. Quite frankly the games put most video game writing to shame - if only more game developers got the message that hiring people who actually can write, makes for a better quality product.

Yeah, I enjoyed Army of Two, as well. I remember the villain had some very inventive insults that he was throwing near the end, that had me howling with laughter. Plus, it was just kind of neat to see the characters just be 2 regular Mercenary guys who were fightin' for the pay. No judgement on them or any 'War is Hell' kind of stuff, just 'Its a job, it brings in the cash, and we're good at it, so why not?'
Plus, its watching them do air guitar at the start of levels. That shit really endeared them to me.

I just meant the main story without doing much extra. I usually do the main stories first, then get extras after if I really like the game. It just seemed very short compared to Origins. This one has a lot more stuff to collect and hidden levels though. I do plan on getting all that stuff and beating the hidden levels too if I can.

Silly name aside, this is pretty good so far. Its no Killer 7 and it feels kind of like he's going through the motions sometimes, but its got some of that old magic. Well, in preparation for Ace Attorney 5 later in the month, I finally gave in and bought a 3DS. It was a more complicated process than I thought (3DS, 3DS XL and... 2DS?! Wha... which... hmm). I eventually settled on the 3DS XL, (pretty much solely because as it has a larger screen), and was then hit with the bombshell that it didn't come with an AC charger. I mean... why not? How are you supposed to charge it up without one of those - the power of prayer?! And of course, the shop didn't have any, so I had to look around town until I found somewhere that had them.
Grr - but its all sorted now. The backwards compatibility with the DS is very welcome, as is the big screen. Suppose I should have a look at what games are on this thing, then...

Hey Tanis.
Yeah, its been a really dark day alright - I was absolutely *devastated* when it happened. I was watching an episode of Doctor Who on my console, when the power just cut out completely and the system turned itself off. I was disturbed of course, but I figured it must be a power surge or some other random crash. But no, it was Yellow Light of Doom time.
Cue abject despair.
I know my DLC purchases are safe, but without a console to play them on, its still money spent for product that I can't currently use. Not without splashing out for a new console (or repair, but I'd probably rather get a new console than fix up a beaten down old one - my PS3 is over 5 years old at least). I'm not sure about the trophies - I am on PSN, but I don't know if that automatically saves your trophies, or if you had to do something to save them (I know basically nothing about Xbox LIVE and PSN, even after all these years, as I don't use them for anything -at all- outside of DLC purchases/game downloads).
Because I'm a real card carrying technophobe - just managing to post on websites is like an act of supreme sorcery to me! I love video games, but I really, *really* don't like or understand technology itself. I'm probably the only person left on this planet, who doesn't own a mobile phone! So the idea of me playing amateur mechanic... it'll never happen. Thanks for telling me though - don't mistake my technical ineptitude for a lack of gratitude.

My PS3 died.
All those trophies, all that time and effort, all that money spent on games and hardware and DLC...
Oh, my weak heart...
Damn, that sucks. My PS3 still is alive and going, thankfully.
Oh, and you're not the only one who doesn't have a cell phone(well, not yet at least since it's something needed in life eventually).

Hey there Vrykolas.
It brings a few tears to my eyes, reading what happened to you, and how it happened out of the blue, as well as how it affected you.
It's difficult to imagine what would happen and what I'd do if it were to befall me.
Ah yes, I understand where you're coming from there. Usually, whenever you check your PSN profile or trophy list in online mode through your PS3, and you have any trophy list that has been updated in any way, then it'll synchronise the trophies. You can go to PSNProfiles (
http://psnprofiles.com/) and enter your PSN there, and whatever trophies show up there are the trophies that are saved on your PSN (the recently added trophy-privacy feature can affect their visibility, although that is off by default). Lost trophies that aren't on PSN, and also lost save data, can still be recovered and also backed up, although it would have to be through repairing the console, which depends on whether you'd be willing to do that.
Ah right, that's fair enough and understandable. In the past, I myself have oft just made things worse when trying to fix something to do with hardware, although it's the other way around for software. On mobile phones, all I have is a Nokia E71, and I never use it, or just once in a blue moon - it sits in its original box all day every day xD I find mobile phones useless for myself. You're welcome mate :)

Just thinking about all that lost data, all that lost time... a whole generation's worth of effort and toil. Gone literally in the blink of an eye. But all is not quite lost (its just mostly lost). I used that link to the PSNProfiles page - and after some fiddling about with my Vita, I managed to get it to work - and my trophies at least are safe and sound. At this point, I broke into hysterical cackling 'Sultan Jafar claims the Lamp from Aladdin' laughter - my treasures are safe!!!
Which doesn't bring back my saved data, but its more than good enough for me. Just the peace of mind alone (well, after I stop laughing with insane triumph anyway) has been a weight lifted. Your link to that Profiles page was the promise of hope that I needed to muster my courage. Passwords, account histories, codes... brrr.
But its done now, and I am in your debt Tanis, my good man (or woman). May your every fantasy be not final, and may reaching your final happiness be not merely a fantasy! :D

To lose so much precious data, is a sad thing, although that your trophies are at least safe and sound, is quite comforting to hear :)
Aw, thank you, Vrykolas, and right back at you too :D
@Tanis
That's true, it is restricted to PS+ users only, and whether the saves are automatically uploaded would also depend on the settings. Although, if you ever uploaded a save to PS+, and then your PS+ expired, then your saves will remain in their storage for a period of 6 months before being deleted, as I've heard. I think that PS+ is the only way to (non-hackingly) backup copy-protected saves, and the only other option, which is the "Data Transfer Utility", transfers them to another PS3.

No idea about my saves. Its beyond the ken of a mortal man like me to know such things. Seriously though, I don't know. I've heard of 'The Cloud'. I think I have a rudimentary understanding of what it is, but I've never investigated beyond that. (Although reading that description of how it works by Tails, it seems my saves will be gone forever... Is that a violin I can hear playing somewhere?'
But never mind. As I say, I'm not too bothered, now that I know my trophies are safe. That was the big issue - because if I'd lost them, it would have made a whole generation's worth of gaming on that console feel redundant. I don't play exclusively for trophies, but in games I like, I usually like to put in the extra hours to mop up the trophies, and give myself an excuse to play those games some more. And I guess, it would be like losing a treasured photo album or something like that.
Wait... a second... Ah!
I've just noticed that there is a 'Tanis' and a 'Tails' that I'm speaking to here. That's got me really mixed up! It appears that I've committed yet another technological blunder - hopefully it should be obvious where my praise was intended to go! And it appears to have reached the ears of the intended receiver (Tails), despite my error. So, sorry about that.
Yours sincerely,
Wyrkolaz.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Mirror of Fate (now there's a well thought out title...)
Being a portable game, this is more of a traditional Metroidvania kind of game than the original Lords of Shadow. Its a bit subdued and it feels... I don't know, just a bit drab really. There's a really sullen, joyless mood about the game, which might be appropriate, but its kind of off putting as well. But its had its moments so far, and at least it feels like a proper Castlevania game.
Oh, and I finished Fire Emblem: Awakening. It got better, but it never really kicked into second gear for me. It kept feeling like it was going to open up and be a much more interesting and involved game at any moment, yet never quite got there.

Just finished Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask after letting it sit for months. Put in The Last Specter for some bonus content and noticed a few unfinished puzzles so I took care of them.
Then put in The Unwound Future to see if there was anything unfinished and noticed a second saved game. At some point I must have decided to replay it on a new save file so now I'm playing that.
But I may also start Monster Tale. Played a bit of it when I first purchased it and really enjoyed it. The gameplay reminded me of the NDS Castlevania games.

I was considering buying Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (Mask of Miracle sounded way cooler IMO), but I think I'll just wait for Azran Legacy, then buy both and marathon them over the christmas period.
Oh, and I just downloaded Ace Attorney 5. The new look and voice acting takes some getting used to. Too early to say anything much (I haven't even finished the first case yet), but there are reasons to be hopeful and reasons to be wary at the moment. About all I can is that its... different.
Dead Money is a pretty cool expansion for New Vegas. Kind of an experimental, survival horrorish vibe. Has one of my favourite Fallout characters in it too - Dean Domino, aka The Biggest Jerk Ever.

How are they? any fun? I heard bad things about ME3, like the ending being absolutely terrible.
Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn is a fun game and thoroughly enjoying myself with it. Being able to create your own character and journey in a FF game is pretty fun and you make friends with a lot of people as it's a MMO.
Mass Effect 3... I've had many a discussion about this with fellow forum members (mainly Vrykolas), and 99% of the game is great, especially the Citadel dlc. However the originally released ending wasn't well received at all... even some have said that the Extended Cut Ending which gives another ending, was just a 'bandage' on a weeping wound. Personally, I didn't like either of the new endings, but I never bothered with the whole 'Retake ME3' movement which sprung up.
However, I do wish BioWare did keep their promise of 16 different endings, taking into account ALL of your decisions from the three ME games helping to determine which ending you get. Hell... the original script for ME3 was leaked in November 2011, 5 months before ME3's release... so Casey Hudson and Mac Walters came up with what they call a 'Artistic and Philosophical' ending. Others call it a weak ass bullshit ending.
Myself... honestly, don't care. I treat the Citadel DLC ending as THE ending of ME3... even working on my own ME fanfic and while it isn't a 'official ending'... it'll be one which'll be satisfactory for me.
Vrykolas
10-29-2013, 01:27 AM
And I still maintain that ME3 is absolutely not 99% fine. But neither is it a bad game. For the record, my opinion of the series is:
Mass Effect 1.
Awesome, and still the best. Has a different tone to the other 2, being a hard sci-fi game, instead of the pulpy 'Adventures in Space' that the other 2 became. Being hard sci-fi, it is the most realistic of the 3, and deals with some interesting concepts of xenophobia and discrimination that the other games dropped almost completely (because it made people uncomfortable). Also the only game to properly address the idea of religion (human religion anyway -alien religion is fine, because it isn't real and doesn't get you in trouble with anyone) and tested the boundaries on whether you should be allowed to show sex in games, both of which the other games again dropped in order to play it safer. It isn't the prettiest or the smoothest handling, but it is the deepest and most convincing game of the series. The others go too far in their power trip 'You're an intergalactic space spy!' wish fulfillment. Basically, just listen to the naive gushing of a callow young crew member you meet right at the start of ME1 (who dies very shortly after, when real life kicks in), and you'll know the ways in which the series later went wrong (or at least how it changed anyway).
Mass Effect 2
Going purely on production values and accessibility, this is the best made game of the three, and the most polished and complete experience. A more comic book adventure feel than the first game, it almost completely abandons the core story, in favour of a tenuously related (though still fun in its own right) alien abductions story. Its a very fun 'Dirty Dozen of Assembled Avengers led by James Bond in Space' experience, but it is very, very different to ME1. Also handles the continuity of choices and well, continuity in general from the first game's universe, very badly. Also feels very 'safe', as all the traces of xenophobia are essentially written out and/or glossed over (Turians and Humans seem absolutely fine with each other all of a sudden, the more xenophobic characters are kicked to the kerb, such as Executor Pallin who isn't in 2 and is confirmed dead in 3, Pressly is killed in the intro, Ashley has 1 small cameo and a fairly small role in 3 as well, Terra Firma are never mentioned again as far as I can remember, and despite Cerberus supposedly being pro-human, there are no examples of anti-alien behaviour from them in either 2 or 3). There are reasons for this, but it adds up to Bioware and EA airbrushing important issues out of the series, to appease censors and widen the game's appeal. The game also tones down the sex and violence, which was never gratuitous and had artistic merit.
Mass Effect 3
An okayish final installment, that felt very rushed to me. Straddles an uncomfortable line of not having many places to explore or quests to do (there is only 1 hub area and only 3 proper side quests in the whole game if you don't buy DLC - the rest of it being the multiplayer maps repurposed to be quick 'Kill the enemies for a while' XP exercises), and still managing to feel so business as usual, that it feels like the huge galaxy consuming war isn't actually happening at all. Shepard is relentlessly shilled as the greatest person ever at everything, and can solve any and all galactic problems in just a few hours. Add in that after all the hype and build up, the Reapers are uncharismatic and incredibly boring enemies, and the infamously bad ending... And yet, its still a fairly good game, and all these downsides are things I never expected the game to get right anyway. Best summed up as 'It'll do'.
So in short, the series could have stopped at ME1, and I'd have been just as happy. Better yet, it could have continued the series in the same manner, and made proper sequels. I'm not begrudging people the right to own and play the sequels, and ME2 is a great game that absolutely should exist. But by ME3, the main story is a joke that doesn't matter anymore, and definitely wasn't executed well.

Not exactly playing, but I watched some Youtube translation of Ace Attorney Investigations 2. Fair play to the guy for translating the whole thing, even to the point of examining everything and presenting evidence to get all the passive reactions and banter. As for the game... it was okay. The first 2 cases are excellent, but the last 3 were a bit disappointing.
As for my own Ace Attorney playing, I finished Dual Destinies (a while ago now actually). It was really fun and was probably the most consistently exciting and enjoyable of the series, but that came at quite a heavy price in terms of emotional depth. It has its moments, but it felt much more shallow than the earlier games. I had a great time with it (particularly cases 1, 3 and 4), but I hope any future AA games will have a little more 'meat on the bone' in terms of story and powerful emotion. Because this one was just a little too lightweight in its tone for my liking. I wasn't much for the new prosecutor either - he's not bad, but he's no Edgeworth or Godot.

Been on a Platinum Games kick. Just got through playing Vanquish on Hard (that last fight was no joke, I tell you...) and what an awesome game it was. I remembered liking it, but its just superb, raging action from start to finish. Its criminal that this game wasn't a hit.
So after that, I moved onto Bayonetta. Another great action game, but I find it really hard to care about the character of Bayonetta herself. Still, it really is an excellent beat em up, and I love the look of the enemies in this game. Just wish there was an alternative to playing as Bayonetta really - I wouldn't mind playing through as Luka, grappling hooking my way about...
And after that, I'll probably throw on Metal Gear: Revengeance. I'm not a Metal Gear Solid fan, and I really don't care about that universe really, but to my great surprise, Revengeance is one of my favourite games of this year. It might be controversial to say so, but I prefer Raidan to Solid Snake as a hero. I'm not a sneaking, stealthy kind of guy - I'm a full blooded action kind of fellow! And the whole child soldier, killer persona inside Raidan is very interesting - although Quinton Flynn's voice acting is distractingly awful. Looking forward to playing it again though.

His voice acting's very good in MGS 2, MGS 3 Substance, and MGS 4. I never really understood why his voice acting(and the rest of the cast)in Revengeance was criticized, personally. Usually, you have to blame the voice director for not giving them proper direction.
As for Bayonetta, I loved her personality, despite not having a whole lot of backstory.
Finally got back to Mass Effect 3's multiplayer after waiting for the problems with Xbox Live to go away. I don't know what's going on with Microsoft's servers.
Edit: Aaand, just when I was about to get on, I get disconnected.

He's alright when he's just his usual self, but when he goes into the 'Ripper' persona, it sounds really bad IMO. Which is a shame, because its a very interesting idea, and the story does some pretty bold things with it (how many heroes resolve a hostage situation with a child, by cutting through the kid to kill the kidnapper? He is sorry for doing it, and makes amends, but damn... that's one hardcore hero).
As for Bayonetta, I don't exactly *dislike* her, but I find it really hard to engage with characters who seem so utterly invincible all the time. The game itself is pretty tough at times (for me anyway), but in the cutscenes, I rarely ever felt like Bayonetta was ever even remotely in any actual danger, or was even slightly worried about what was happening (compared to the gamer, who's probably sweating bullets when the various enormous bosses show up). Characters like her and Dante from Devil May Cry just kind of bore me - I prefer a more fallible hero, who doesn't also land perfectly on their feet after a million foot dive, or who actually feels tired and hurt after taking a beating or being in a demanding fight.
Whereas characters like Dante and Bayonetta just shrug off a punishing encounter mostly all the time, someone like Sam from Vanquish will lie on the floor where he was just thrown violently by a massive explosion, and will take a few moments to get his breath back, and even light up a cigarette to just take some time out. Stuff like that humanises characters, and makes seem less like unstoppable, video game gods who cannot fail.

Nope. Nope. Nope.

Also, it was actually a problem with my wireless connection on my console, not with the Xbox Live servers. I feel like an idiot. >_<

Sitting here with no power nor running water. Not driving to work in the mess outside so I'm going to play a game of Last Window: The Secret of Cape West.
Thinking about collecting some dialogue from the game and posting it on my tumblr.

Still playing Star Wars The Old Republic, but as a Smuggler. Loving it, the GUI is good and the tone of some missions play out how you would expect for a Smuggler: Flippant with comedic undertones (usually on the part of the NPC's lol).

Leveling up various characters to LV.100 in One Piece: Pirate Warriors II. I just finished with New World Nami; it was tough. My next choices are between Garp, Eneru, and maybe Robin.

Finished Bayonetta and it was nowhere near as hard as I remembered (though not an easy game by any means). I still got lots of stone trophies (i.e the lowest rank), but I did much better than the last time I played. I'd like to think its because of me getting better at the game by learning how to play it properly, and not because I was just totally, utterly rubbish the first time.
Taking a bit of a breather before I dive into Revengeance. Vanquish and Bayonetta back to back is a seriously draining (but fun) experience. Too much time spent playing laid back RPGs at a gentle pace, I suppose. I feel like I should be warming up with a jog before playing games like these!

Blazed my way through Revengeance. Its a bit simplistic (linear levels, parry and counter being your only real combat move), but its still a very fine game indeed. If I remember rightly, Platinum were only called in late in the development when Kojima realized he knew nothing about making action games, so I guess that explains a lot. Still a highly entertaining game that whilst short, is long enough to satisfy your actions needs, without wearing out its welcome. The story is mercifully free of hour long cutscenes too, and the story manages to be engaging without going on forever and ever and ever.
And that last boss fight was something else... I thought I'd won when I took down the Metal Gear, but then the Senator turns out to be from the Mike Hagger school of politics (i.e a massively muscle bound powerhouse brute of a man). Actually it was like fighting Mike Hagger on rage pills, and I took a sensational pounding. Finally managed to loosen up and relax enough to play properly, and managed to do it quite easily in the end. Final boss nerves - the bane of gamers everywhere...
But yeah, Platinum Games - they sure do make them some mighty fine action games.

Finished Mass Effect 3 and chose "Control" with Extended Cut.
I actually love that ending, it really gave me a sense of accomplishment. Kinda saddens me that Shepard's story is over, but hey, it will be a trilogy I will always hold dear to my heart.
Now I want to play the entire trilogy for the 3rd time lol, but not too soon. I'll get to them on harder difficulties.

Now get S rank on all chapters on Revengeance mode! It's not as hard as one might think. :)

Hah, well you can forget that! :D
I've never been one for trying to get S ranks in games like this. It usually means you have to rush through levels, wasting absolutely no time, and only ever executing the perfect move for the situation to avoid taking any damage at all etc etc. Which is all fine and well for those that want to, but for me that kind of playing feels really lifeless and boils the game down to simple score attack.
If it was the 'olden days' and I was playing in my local sweaty arcades for the privilege of having your initials at the top of the scoreboard on the big coin-op of the day, then sure I was as game as anyone to give things like this a go (you're talking to a *God* of Sunset Riders!). But at home, I just think 'What's the point?' Just so I can get an achievement?
Don't get me wrong - I've been known to go out of my way for some achievements, but I usually draw the line at Insanity/Legendary/Non-Stop Infinity Climax modes. Its just too much effort, playing in a way I don't enjoy, for no real reward worth having IMO.

Dynasty Warriors 8
Finally back on the Xbox, but as soon as I finish with as much as possible of that it's back on the PS3 to play Dynasty Warriors 7.
I like 8's replacement for Conquest Mode I'm almost done with that building thingy. I also like the fact they upgraded the Ally system to include NPC officers (though you can't take them in battle with you).

Finished Journey and Mushroom Wars (except DLC which I am not getting), and got my platinum on Hotline Miami. I'm still amazed it had a platinum considering how increadibly short the game is. Really fun though, and a nice soundtrack. Started playing Hoard again with a friend, so I'm going to get the last trophy for it, as well as finish Resident Evil 5 DLC on Professional.
I also finished the two main campaigns, and the first expansion campaign of Heroes of Might and Magic II, so three more shorter campaigns left before I start on HOMM III.

I have advice for those who play...in ambition mode save after every battle (getting the animals and achievements for certain number of battles)...just in case one either battles or loads into a white screen of nothingness. It happened to me twice so far. I wish they'd patch that gosh darn white screen of nothing...it's annoying.
On a positive note: I got the building thingy in ambition mode done. To get a gold star weapon and gold panda and that darned achievement.

All my officers in Jin are level 30+ except Guo Huai who is lvl29. (The special thing about lvl 30 is that it unlocks general voices and probably a wallpaper.)

Metro: Last Light.
A game that really feels Russian, in that its incredibly bleak. Seriously, this is one world that you would not want to live in - fortunate, considering that if you were a citizen of Metro, you probably wouldn't live for very long anyway. Between lethal radiation preventing anyone from going to the surface, mutants creatures trying to eat them and the fact that they're trapped in a community which features both the Nazis *and* the Communists... I don't know what the Russian word for 'totally screwed' is, but I imagine it gets used a whole lot.
Fortunately though, I like bleak. And it isn't a case of everyone in the world being horrible villains. Mostly, the people are a pretty decent who help each other out, so the game actually ends up feeling strangely uplifting at times. These people are about as screwed as you could possibly be, but they carry on anyway. I guess Russians are used to this sort of thing, with all the tyrants they've had over the years. So basically its a mix of 'Life's cheap' with 'Life find a way, through thick and thin'.
The game itself... is okay. The gunplay is nothing to write home about, and the survival mechanics are adequate but not too involved really. There is some stealth (lots of it actually), but its really easy and you don't *have* to do it, if you'd rather just cut loose. The gameplay and story rarely rise above 'acceptable', but the unique Russian feel and atmosphere makes up for it. Its pretty much the definition of 'Its better than it sounds'. Its just a shooter, but its a Russian shooter, and that somehow makes it more interesting.

Saints Row 4: Enter the Dominatrix...
... waste of $10AUSD for the Season Pass imo. The content made absolutely no sense whatsoever and when compared to similar DLC in Saints Row 2 (even the three for Saints Row The Third actually had some merit as they tied in to the main story), completely weak and lacklustre. I have little hope that the second (and thankfully FINAL) DLC for Saints Row 4, entitled "How the Saints Saved Christmas" will do anything at all to make me think this game is worth being apart of the Saints Row series. Find out on December 11th... and that's only IF Australia gets it at the same time as the rest of the world.

About Shenmue II, I heard that the bad ending in Shenmue II was considered canon by SEGA. I'm willing to bet that it isn't true, but for anyone that knows anything Shenmue, please tell me if it it's true or not.
Been a while that I have come to this forum. I myself have been playing Crashofield 4, thankfully I can play a few rounds before a server randomly crashes or my game decides to crash, gotta love DICEA!. Any one here playing BF4 on the PC?.

Beat Super Mario 3D World... twice actually heh. It is an awesome game, definitely one of my favorite Mario games ever, but it's also one of the easiest unfortunately. I collected everything and beat all levels with all 5 characters and some levels are way too short. It's awesome to see Super Mario Bros. 2 back in the 21st century though, and it has the best music ever made in a Mario game and has the most variety in levels and playable characters for sure. Couldn't have made a better sequel to 3D Land.
So now going to play Metroid Prime Trilogy (starting with Prime 1 obviously) since I haven't played a Metroid game in a while.

Finished Ducktales on Extreme, which wasn't very extreme at all. The hardest part was finishing the game without it freezing, resulting in having to restart from the beginning.
Also finished both Resident Evil 5 DLC on Professional. Lost in Nightmares was really easy, but my god, Desperate Escape was the real nightmare. I think I had to replay the last part on the roof at least 100 times due to the AI either dying, or not helping at all. Sadly I can't shoot in front of me and behind me at the same time. Worst. AI. Ever.
If only my friend actually played the games he bought on PS3, instead of being hooked on Dust 514 all day long. Bastard.
Started on Terraria now that it was on sale though, and I expect to be stuck with that for a long while. It's just too much fun to put down! :)
