Finally i get my hands on Killzone 3 ( so far ive had different priorities ) aaaand its actually worse then second part...
Reason for that is even that controls are better and coop is cool thing, they did short campaign and multiplayer? Something between 6 maps in standart, not much original structure of maps, no 32 players, only 5 ribbons and why in the hell i cant now just come to random squad? Its shame because they did a great job on weapons, class modes and other stuff like 3D or Move controling... The best is of course main villain Stahl with great voice acting by famous actor who once played Caligula ( i really dont member a name but his voice i recognise anywhere ) and new civil war between Helghast it could be much more better... I miss Hakha, where the hell is he anyway?
Second game is Final fantasy XII, its my first cut in this serie so im learning how to fight in another way then in real time ( i mean like in God of war for example ), still i have always compulsive need block attacks myself and not waiting if he does that for me...hehe

Resident Evil 6.
Despite many problems with the controls, I'm actually enjoying this a lot more than I expected to. Only played Chris Redfield's campaign so far, and I'm only up to chapter 3, but so far its not nearly as calamitous as I'd feared. Sure, his campaign feels like Call of Duty, but Chris is a character who suits a military setting, as does the BSAA. Its a natural progression for the story to see the bioweapons actually being used by militias around the world (as Umbrella weren't making these things for the fun of it). So despite it obviously being a million miles away from what RE sued to be, I didn't expect for one second that they would return to survival horror. Therefore, I'm trying to enjoy the game for what it is, not what I hoped it might be.
Liking how the story is panning out so far (although some sequences are cringeworthy, as you might expect - the hostage rescue bit in Chapter 1 was unintentionally hilarious). Still too early to say for sure, but first impressions are more or less positive. The controls really are a pain though - the cover system only works when it feels like it, and the camera often jumps right onto your back, making it impossible to see what's going on. Combat kill animations are fun and violent, but they often leave you disoriented, as you lose track of where you are relative to the enemies when you come out of it.
But its just a case of getting used to it. Every so often it will annoy me, but I'm getting over it. Really enjoying being able to melee people properly as well. Running about, hacking and blasting with a shotgun and machete = win.

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it.
I also liked how instead of getting the herbs as plants, they're converted into medicine tablets you can save up without having them take up space in your inventory. And they only restore one health square instead of the traditional way, which I also like, because it makes it a bit challenging and makes you want to try and avoid taking a lot of damage. I don't have the game, but I'm going by what I've experienced in the demos.

Making steady progress with RE6. Finished all but one chapter of Chris's campaign, but decided to stop there for the moment and go over to Jake's campaign. Reason is that the stories intersect, and I don't really want to do the final chapter of Chris's campaign yet, because it will necessarily give spoilers for what happens with the other characters too. My plan therefore is to finish Chapters 1-4 of Jake and Leon's campaigns first, before I do anyone's final chapter.
The game has its ups and downs, but one thing that nobody can complain about is that you get an awful lot of bang for your buck. 3 campaigns, with a choice of 2 characters in each one. And even though I only finished up to the start of Chapter 5 with Chris, I felt like I'd been through the wars. Some sections work better than others, but it felt like the game was trying out something new pretty much every stage of the way, whilst still giving lots of general action too. I confess too that whilst the game doesn't seem very scary, there was one bit in Chapter 4 which freaked me out completely.
Whole game feels really cinematic, like a good quality action film or series (24 for example). Like I say, it doesn't all work, but its much more hit than miss IMO. The game is at least trying, and that scores a lot of points with me.
So yeah, playing as Sherry Birkin at the moment in Jake's campaign. I like her - she's really fast!

That's to be expected - science is constantly evolving, improving (if that's really the right word), to make newer products better than the old ones. Its like all fields of research - if you're not on the cutting edge, then you're nowhere. Ergo, each new successful virus will be stronger than the last.
I'm currently starting Leon's campaign. Played through Chris and Jake's first 4 chapters, and I have to say I'm really enjoying the game. All the complaining about the game seems crazy - its easily the most ambitious and consistently entertaining RE game for years and years.

Finished the 3 main campaigns of RE6. Leon's campaign was by far the worst - I'm greatly relieved that I didn't let his campaign be my introduction to the game. His fourth Chapter is okay, but mostly his campaign is a huge letdown. It all seems so disconnected to everything else, his big bad doesn't actually have anything to do with the main global threat, he has almost no variety in the enemies he faces (he spends 90% of his time fighting basic zombies and bosses). Plus his dialogue is noticeably worse than the other characters - his cheesy quips aren't funny at all, and make him seem like a bit of a fool at times. Helena is also very poor, being by turns surly, ungrateful, manipulative, humourless, outrageously unprofessional given the importance of her job and just all around an unlikable character in how she displays no interest in helping people in trouble. She has her reasons, but her behaviour is still every kind of unacceptable IMO.
I just didn't get much out of his campaign at all. There was barely any story at all for the first 2 chapters, and what little there was, has a few oddities (like how Leon doesn't seem to know any of the main characters in the early stages of his campaign, despite him being in a position where he surely would have met them even if only in passing). They also include a scene where he watches a tape of something very important, then completely forgets about it, and doesn't inquire about it to the relevant people ever, despite it being of vital importance to what is actually going on (which means he never find out, and misses out on most of the plot because of it!)
Add in that his levels ranged from mediocre to actively bad, with him seeming to spend enormous amounts of time messing about underground, doing absolutely nothing, and his campaign was a chronic failure. Even the much touted survival horror of his early levels is really, really bad (despite a good opening 10 minutes or so). Thankfully as I say, the other 2 campaigns are much better, so my overall extreme of the game hasn't been affected.

The only Ninja Gaiden game I've played was the 2nd one and I had to stop playing it so I can get the first one and go from there. Another reason as well, is because I couldn't defeat Genshin and rage quit because of him. I personally don't play any Ninja Gaiden game on hard, because it'll piss me off and get me frustrated to where I won't enjoy it(actually, any game on "hard" or up is torture for me depending on what it is). I don't play any game on easy, but I don't play any game on hard.

My point was that the only real reason to play Ninja Gaiden is to test yourself against one of the hardest games out there. The difficulty is what makes that game so essential, so the definitive experience is obtained by playing the hardest version IMO. If you don't have an Xbox, then as you say, its a moot point. Completed all circuits in the Beginner and Standard divisions in F-Zero: Maximum Velocity for GBA. It's a hard racer, but once you get a handle on the controls, it's not too bad. At least until you get further along, and then the bots get brutal.
I also finally finished Baten Kaitos Origins with a time of 113 hours and 33 minutes. It is officially the longest game I've ever played. I also received the best ending after doing everything I had to do to get it. With no cheats or tutorials. Good stuff, and I am entirely satisfied with the conclusion.

Dishonored and Halo 4.
However you choose to approach Dishonored, it's a game that asks you to think, plan, be smart. It's a wonderfully empowering game because of this, as you lurk in the shadows knowing the powers you possess and the options you have. It's elegantly designed to make the most of those tools, but isn't afraid of changing the rules in order to keep its (admittedly quite predictable) story bubbling along.

I'm calling shenanigans as well. Though he could've gotten a pirated version from another region, as I was once able to play Halo 3: ODST before its U.S. release by playing a pirated french release via a hacked Xbox 360. The same could be said for him.
In any case,
I played some MarioKart: Double Dash for GCN with a buddy. I cleared my save and started fresh. Haven't actually been through it myself as I was using my older brother's save file from way back. Figured it was time to go through all the cups since I've done that with every other MK title.
I beat Black Mesa. My frame rate dropped considerably at the end as there was so much going on at once. If you guys haven't tried it yet, I highly suggest it. It's an awesome experience, especially considering it was community developed by a group of modders. Best mod I've ever played, and best of all, it's accessible to everyone as the Source SDK Base is free to download via Steam.
Started playing Bit.Trip Fate for Wii. Made it to the fourth level, aptly titled "Frustration." I'm stuck on it at the moment, but I shall plow through. I've mostly been downed by the boss, so it's basically down to figuring out his pattern.
And some Minecraft, because I got fed up with that friggin' boss.

From what I've heard, Halo 4 has already been leaked pre-release on the net - it's what happens when you outsource production to other countries on the cheap.
Been in another retro mood lately and fired up my Mega Drive emulator - been playing Dracula Unleashed (Mega CD). Despite the grainy, badly pixellated FMV and rather hammy acting, it's still fun. Also it's at least involving proper vampires, not the stupid glittery sugar-coated Twilight posers. ;)

Castlevania still does it best however.
Quite a bit of Minecraft. I fleshed out the remaining floors on my high-rise structure. I fixed my chicken/egg farm by adding an additional piston to keep the chickens from going off where they're not supposed to when I activate the cooking mechanism. I'm now currently working on the landscaping around my high-rise as the cleared space looked rather plain and lifeless. Dug out a river with a waterfall, and put a road parallel to it. It's beginning to look awesome.
Once I get this done, I'm going to work on my next project: a cabin on top of my mountain base. I'm gathering ideas from YouTube, though it's not going to be quite as grand, it's still going to be pretty cool.

The slight changes to the gameplay are generally for the better (although combat units like the Chrysalid really got shafted by the new system), and the game is basically as good as it always was. Dishonoured.
Being someone who as a rule despises stealth games, it was only the unusual Bioshockesque world that drew me to this. I hate playing as thieves, assassins etc etc, so this game had a lot to do to convince me to play beyond the first couple of hours. So its a tribute to Arkane that I did manage to get through the whole game, and stealthily enough to get the good ending. It was touch and go at times though, and I really hated the way that the game says 'Hey, you can do combat or stealth - but if you do combat, its the wrong choice and you'll get the bad ending'.
But I put up with it, and at times this is a pretty great game. I will never be someone who enjoys stealth or assassinating people etc etc, but the world was quite interesting and the story (though it has big problems) was sufficient to keep me going to the end. The game's real problem is that it tries to cram in too many different ideas and images, rather than focusing and developing a smaller number of the more core ideas. For example, the plague sweeping the city, the swarms of rats, plague zombies etc etc sounds good on paper, but in practice, barely seems to matter at all. Whenever you encounter such things, you almost feel like you must be going the wrong way, because it has such little relevance to anything.
The game's characters also disappoint, and not because they are bad ideas, but because you know so little about them, and they do and say so little. Characters, quests, whole locations can often feel frustratingly underused and/or undeveloped. The Masquerade Ball in Mission 4 for example should have been the best level. Go undercover to a masked ball, mingle with the guests trying to find which of 3 sisters is your mark, then work out how to kill her in the middle of a huge crowd. Sounds great, but its so easy and is over so quickly that I was hanging around for a full hour afterwards trying to find something else to do, because the main mission had been so heartbreakingly unsatisfying.
It may sound like I hated this game, but I did quite enjoy it. The fact that I even finished it, and wanted to play it at all, is much more than most stealth games ever evoke in me, so the game must have done something right. It just feels like a bit of a mess in terms of narrative and world building/storytelling etc. Key ideas are never explained (The Outsider and your magic powers), whereas others feel like they are there just to pad out the game (Flooded District, The Lighthouse etc etc). But overall, from a man who usually really doesn't like this sort of thing, I thought it was pretty good.

Persona 2.
The spreading rumours thing is a great idea, and its a welcome relief from the first game that you don't have random encounters on the city map screens. The characters are pretty good, although the more Persona games that you play, the more you realise that they are just recycling the same basic characters and stories. Still, its a fun game for the most part. No demon fusing in this one, but you still have to do the whole negotiation thing, which is a pain. Definitely an area that the newer games improve on.
Other than that, going through Killzone HD. Its still pretty awful, but I don't mind - I always did like the Killzone universe.

Officially, the reviews for both House MD and NCIS were poor... but as a fan of those two shows, I thoroughly enjoyed them. Both played out as episodes of their respective shows and were fun to play.

(Like the title better as "The Mask of Miracle")
Cel shading looks okay except Luke looks a little funny. Maybe he aged since he looks taller. I turn off the 3D most of the time, except on animated cut scenes.
Not a fan of the horse riding segment but it was interesting to see an action element added to the series.
Only completed the first 2 puzzles so far which were easy peasy.

Logged into FFXIV for the first time in months - with only a day to go before the original version is shut down in preparation for the rebooted '2.0' version's release in January, the current game environment very much shows a world in it's last pitiful dying throes - with the Dalamud meteor looming huge overhead like the Sword of Damocles, imperial airships flying over every city unhindered and all zone music replaced with a haunting a capella version of FFXIV's vocal theme Answers - it really does seem like the lead up to the apocalypse.
I was half expecting to hear someone running around shouting "IT"S THE END! REPENT SINS!" :p

I'm trying to finish the Red Harvest campaign, but I had to skip some parts(using the endmission cheat)that involved going from point a to b to find stuff, like find the weapons cache, find this woman and arrest her, find these bunkers, it really tried my patience at times(plus, it felt a bit boring to me). I'm not too proud of it, but I just can't stand some of the Red Harvest missions that feel more like police work. That doesn't mean I dislike the game and would prefer to play BF3 and CoD, I just don't find missions like that ArmA 2 interesting.

Had the sudden urge to replay Gears of War 3, which seemed a lot better this time, than I remember it being. I still think the main story is disappointing (aside from the excellent Chapter 1, most of the story feels like padding and characters like Dom, Anya etc hardly get anything to say or do). It was still great fun to play through - but I wanted to play at least one level as Carmine!
Just started Halo 4. Early days yet (Chapter 3), but so far... Hmm. Some of the visuals have been very impressive, and the intro movie with the Doctor talking to the guy was great. But I don't know... the first couple of levels have felt a bit lifeless and small time. Encounters with enemies often feel strangely flat and unengaging, and having to fight the Covenant so much again is extremely dispiriting. That story arc was done and dusted - they should have waited at least 1 game, before bringing them back as allies. I just don't really want to fight them again!
That said though, I'm just starting to meet the new enemies now. And both Halo 2 and Halo 3 were slow starters too, so here's hoping.

I beat a couple games the past couple of days. Both short, and both in one sitting each. Up first is Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 for Wii. A fun game, just like the Sonic games I used to play from the Genesis. I didn't have a problem with the way Sonic was animated or with the tightness of the controls. It felt like a Sonic game should. Though the quirky music was incredibly obnoxious, and annoying. It was about the only thing I really disliked about the game. This coming from someone who loves video game music, the Sonic games especially. The game was short, though acceptable as Sega was initially going for an episodic format, that went the way of the Half Life 2 episodes. I suppose it would have taken me a bit longer had I hunted down every last Chaos Emerald, but the special stages are kinda ridiculous.
On the following night after work, I sat down and played Bit.Trip Flux for Wii, the last of the Bit.Trip saga before Runner 2 is released. Started out on Normal difficulty, but I wasn't getting anywhere, so I dropped it down to Easy. I NEVER do that, unless the game is absolutely unrelenting. Apparently Easy was too easy as I breezed through it. Good enough for me. I only really wanted to listen to the awesome music, and failing at the game prevents that from happening.
Since I beat those two games, during the interim while I wait for MegaMan X8 to arrive in the mail, I've been playing a little bit of TrackMania Nations, Team Fortress 2, and some Goldeneye: Source.
I've also been spending quite a bit more time in Minecraft. I just did some interior decorating for my cabin, which I have dubbed, "Skywalker Ranch". Got some red carpenting down, and added some lighting via redstone lamps. Though hunting for glowstone in the Nether is a pain. Stupid Zombie Pigmen. I'm going to start construction on my next project, which will be the first level from Wolfenstein 3D. I know people have done it already, but I want to do it for myself, and perhaps get it at a 1:1 ratio.

Finished Halo 4 - odd game. There's a lot wrong with it, but it still manages to do the really important things well enough, that its actually my favourite installment since Halo 1. Whilst the storytelling is very hit and miss, with lots of half-formed ideas, poor explanation and development of key elements etc, it manages to recapture some of the 'sombre but adventurous' magic of the first game. It showed me enough to get me excited about the series again - I want to know more, I want to know what happens next etc.
But like I say, lots of issues too. The Covenant and their whole presence in the game, motivations etc is left completely blank. Not only that, but when Chief and Cortana finally meet some people who might know why they are attacking again, it never comes up! The main bad guy and his minions are pretty poor too, and that's a real shame. Its not totally hopeless though - they feel like a first draft that wasn't developed, rather than an out and out bad idea. They just need a bit more work, and some more variety, and they should be fine. But both factions lack personality - the Prometheans for obvious reasons, but the Covenant aren't their jolly old 'Ho ho ho - further proof of my prowess, rraggh!' selves in this game. They're supposedly more fanatical, but they just come across as zombie covenant, with none of that old spark that made them such lovably eccentric crackpot enemies.
But the tone feels right, the relationship between and personalities of Master Chief and Cortana have never been better, plus the ongoing story looks to be moving in an interesting direction.

Yeah, I never quite understood if the Covenant I faced were the ones that still believed in "The Great Journey" or they broke the truce(btw, I wonder what The Arbiter has been up to since it's been 4 years.) Either way, the campaign was great.
Plus, the soundtrack is amazing (

I understand that Chief and Cortana can't be discussing it all the time, nor would it make any sense to go up to a Covenant battle squad and ask them nicely - as all you'd likely get for your troubles is a grenade! Plus, it isn't a big stretch for Chief and Cortana to just assume that the truce with the Covenant and Humanity was hardly set in stone, and was unlikely to last (Lord Hood as much as says this in Halo 3's ending - that he's grateful and all, but still considers the Covenant to be murdering swines etc).
The part I don't get though, is why neither Chief or Cortana ask the Infinity crew if they have any idea what's going on, if the truce is officially off, what's been going on between the Covenant and Humanity etc since they last saw everyone. A bit more info (or any at all!) would have been handy. As it is, the apparently motiveless Covenant is something that everyone is scratching their head about, and detracting from what was (as you rightly say) a pretty great campaign, all told.
And if the Arbiter is anything like he was when I was playing as him, he's probably spent all his time between the games plasma swording his way about and into people etc - you have to admit that it never gets old! :D

Fate Extra. Interesting game, with a great 'Hunger Games' style central idea, and very well written for the most part. Further proof that the great 'tragic, macabre, but also uplifting' atmosphere of Atlus' older games may in fact have been the influence of Ghostlight. Regardless, it was nice to play a game with that kind of atmosphere again.
And hey, any game with a cannibal girl who ate her own parents to show how much she loved them, dresses like the Joker, and has Count Dracula as her henchmen, has to be worth at least some praise, right?

Fate Extra is (to my knowledge anyway), only on the PSP. I downloaded it from the store - not sure how old it is, or if you can get it anywhere else. It might not be all that incredible in terms of actual gameplay (its okay, just nothing special), but the story was very good. Best analogy I can make is Killer7 - amazing story and worthwhile experience overall, but the game itself... isn't the reason to play. And like I said, the characters were great - being hunted through the school by Robin Hood, who was trying to assassinate me with poisoned arrows, was another highlight!
And yeah, you kind of had to expect a downer ending if you were playing a game based on Lovecraft. The whole point is that the greater forces are completely beyond Man's ability to understand or resist. If you want a Lovecraftish experience that does have a more empowering and happier ending, then try Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. There are lots of downer moments (most of the cast end up being gruesomely killed), but they mostly all achieve something useful before they die, and you do get to defeat the evil properly in the end.

There's Shadow of the Comet & Prisoner of Ice, Graphic adventure games Inspired by lovecraft's work. Which I haven't heard if the got somekind of rerelease or port to this generation of software. You still have DOSBox to make them work, but it's kinda hard if you are not used to emulation and configuration of stuff on PC.
You could check those out if you liked some Broken Sword or Monkey Island games.

Most of Lovecraft's work is collections of fairly short stories (Dagon certainly is). They basically all have the same plot (Guy happens upon creepy goings on, investigates against his better judgement, sees something absolutely horrific, loses his marbles completely). I find the idea and the atmosphere of the universes(s) he created, to be more entertaining than the books themselves actually (as they are a bit repetitive, and I rarely feel all that close to the characters). But Lovecraft's importance as an influence for the horror genre cannot be overstated.
And yeah, in an ideal world, there would be more games based on his work, more horror games in general. But as ever, its about what sells and horror very sadly doesn't sell anywhere near as well as straight up action. Now that games cost so much to make, less popular genres are really getting squeezed. Still, we manage to sneak a few titles under the radar every now and then! So here's hoping...
Just finished the Nod campaign on Command and Conquer 3. Went back to it after I saw Dodo was playing it a couple of weeks back. I'd been meaning to give it another playthrough, and its just as ace as I remember it. Nod always have the best campaign - Kane rules!

As FFXIV servers are now back up after a nearly two-week hiatus and the apocalyptic impact of Dalamud (if you could even call it an 'impact' ;)), and as a recent hardware upgrade to my computer means the game runs so much better for me, I've started getting back into the game - and all things considered, two-years of improvements definitely make for a much better experience than it was at launch, even though there is now going to be no new additions to the original version, it's going to remain active for as long as player logins remain constant.
Either way, I can't wait for the 2.0 reboot in a few months. :)

Walking Dead. Finished it, and it was pretty damn good. The final episode was okay, and had several great moments, but the identity of the final villain was disappointing, and lacked credibility. It feels utterly bizarre and contrived when you find out who he is, but is somewhat saved by the fact that the character is very well written and acted. Basically, its a really good scene, but it feels like they plucked the villain out of nowhere.
Elsewhere, the events were mostly satisfying. One important supporting cast member got a really good final scene, but most of the others just sort of faded out. I guess all that really matters is that the closing scenes with Lee and Clementine don't disappoint. Its been a great ride, and definitely the best adventure game I've played in an age and a day.

Hi all
I need your help with the newest game I have downloaded from the iTunes store for the iPad. (can also be played on the iPhone)
The game "Guardian Cross" is a card based game with Final Fantasy like monsters. The link with Yu-Gi-Oh and Final Fantasy is undenieable. I am a fan of both, so it is a nice game to play :)
I need people who download the game "Guardian Cross" from the store and register an account. It is important to use the invitation code "JR93709" (without the " " offcourse ;)). We will then both get a nice bonus. The more people who register with the code the better :)
Game is free, so it will only cost some time.
For the people who already play this game; if you are tired gifting slimes to people without getting any in return; sent them to me (account Arctura). From every two slimes sent to me I will return one, so that is a free increase of 50% of slimes for your account :)

MegaMan X8 for PS2. Much better than X7, though there are still some annoying levels. At least they tried something different for every level. Gotta give them that much credit.
I'm also building an adventure map from scratch in survival mode within Minecraft. It's actually a recreation of E1M1 from Wolfenstein 3D. The YouTube videos I saw of the few who actually posted didn't really satisfy me, even with custom texture packs, so I took on this project initially just to have it as a project in my world. It then occurred to me that I could feasibly construct it into an adventure map by digging out natural mob spawners and creating a key puzzle by putting secrets behind locked doors, while hiding key levers in various spots around the map.
I already have the map laid out, and the mob spawners set, now it's come down to detail work. Getting paintings up and laying out props and putting in piston powered doors. It's looking pretty sweet.

I am not an orphan... though thinking about her situation nearly brought a tear to my eye. Starting my insanity playthrough for Mass Effect 3... for the third time (Failed the first time due to save file corruption and second time due to 'Clearing system cache')... this time though, going as a Soldier and going to wear the Cerberus Apex Armor from the Alternate Appearance Pack 1, as the bonuses from it far outweigh the bonuses from the other armors, imho..
Bonus power wise, going with Flare, incredibly OP biotic ability (Which, what can one expect as it was a ability of Aria T'Loak's from Omega DLC) specced for 4A (Damage and Force), 5A (Rechaarge Speed) and 6B evolutions (Improved Damage), so on Insanity it should help with clearing out the low-mid level mooks.
Weapon wise, not going to overburden my power cooldown, but a little unsure of what weapons to take... I do have both of the Weapon DLC packs, which I'm almost 100% certain are the original, UNnerfed MP weapons (Typhoon, Piranha, Krysae, Acolyte etc) though. Ahh well, I'll figure it out.

P4 is massively overrated, but still a great game. Its in the same vein as Mass Effect 2, Resident Evil 4 etc, in that because its the installment that the mainstream and non series fans etc like the best, that means it *is* the best, according to them. Don't get me wrong - I like the game, but the main story is terrible (which is very annoying, since the opening hour or so makes it seem like it'll be great). Seriously, its one of the worst paced stories ever. After that opening hour, the story barely moves at all until the very, very end - which is ridiculous and guilty of all the usual crimes that have plagued the second halves of JRPGs down the ages.
Its a shame, as the game has a likeable (if overly familiar in terms of their archetypes) set of characters, and an interesting premise. In the end though, it felt a bit too lightweight, and too willing to tone things down to keep gamers comfortable and entertained. Atlus games should be edgy and challenging IMO.

I actually found Seath to be rather easy - got him first time. Although I was very high level at that point, having done excessive grinding to get past Dragonslayer Ornstein and Executioner Smough. Those two kicked me right up the arse - to death. Dark Souls is an ace game, but the thought of having to beat them again puts me off attempting another playthrough! And that bit where you have to run along those narrow ledges in Anar Londo, whilst those knights fire bolt thrower sized arrows at you... Rrrghh!!!
Still, managed it all in the end - so many great moments. The battle against the Four Kings in the Abyss, creeping through the pitch dark Tomb of the Giants, fighting the Hydra, laughing with relief at that little croc then gulping in terror as you see its grafted on the back of the enormous Gaping Dragon... But the cutscene when Sen's Fortress opens was probably my favourite moment - there's just something magical about that shot from inside the entrance hall, the sunlight coming sparkling in as the gate rises. And I'd been trying to work out how to get in there *forever*. Mind you, I didn't last long inside before I came screaming back out, pursued by those giant snake men! :D
Just an awesome, awesome game. And there's a sequel on the way - I'll allow it!

I finished MegaMan X8 for PS2 last night. About bloody time, though I only clocked 21 hours. It was a fun game, and about as good as X7. Though if you didn't care too much for 7, this one's not going to convert you, I would say that the improvements made in 8 make it technically better than its predecessor. As far as gameplay and level design, they come out about the same. Enjoyable all around.
Since I took care of that game, I've moved onto Mafia II for the Xbox 360. I have been through the first game, so I'm looking forward to this one.

Chapter 5 in Mafia II for 360. It's the same mission used in the demo, except there's snow on the ground. Definitely a fun game that keeps the tension built in the crescendo events of each chapter. Though I can't wait to be let loose a bit, and be allowed to choose which missions to handle next, if at all. The original Mafia had some pretty tight reigns, so at least I'm accustomed to it.

As far as I know, the game is naturally like that. I've heard plenty of comments in regards to a player's lifespan within the game usually ending up being quite short.
I beat Mafia II for 360 right before the New Year. First time in a while where a bittersweet ending to a game got to me. One heck of a way to end it off.
I also spent a couple of days on Kirby's Dreamland for Gameboy. The game took me a grand total of two hours to complete. If I didn't have to quit after reaching the final level the first time, it would have only taken me an hour. The game doesn't allow for saves as it is an incredibly short experience. It was a good time, and the first completion of 2013. The game tells me there is a harder difficulty setting after beating it for the first time. Screw that, I'm moving on.
To Armed and Dangerous for PC, specifically. Is it just me, or does it seem like this game hasn't aged very well? First thing to note, is the compression on the FMV cutscenes. It's so bad, that the grainyness leads to discoloration. I haven't seen compression this bad since the FMV at the beginning of ChexQuest. To make matters worse, the animations are incredibly stiff and disjointed. I can't tell if it was intentional or not, but it looks horrendous. I expect animation like this from an N64 or PSone game, not something that came out last generation, let alone a LucasArts funded title.
Speaking of LucasArts, the typically excellent sound design that this publisher lends carries over here, however it's covered with lackluster third person shooting, drab environments, and shoddy animations. Gripes aside, the music and excellent voice acting is a treat to the ears, though too bad the voice actors weren't given a better script. The writers tried to be funny, but a lot of the jokes seem forced, and failed to illicit even a chuckle. I usually don't laugh at games, so maybe it's just me.
On the plus side, the crazy weapons are inventive, and the objectives are varied enough to keep me interested. Gameplay and control is solid with friendly AI that actually helps instead of hinders.
