Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is an excellent RPG with great visual and sounds. Even though the story takes place 1000s of years before any of the movies any fans of the franchise will instantly recognize the worlds, surroundings, people and items in KOTOR.

The game is very much a standard RPG affair. The fighting is actually turn based even though by looking it at you will never be able to tell. This makes the presentation of the fight scene awesome. The sound of blasters and light sabers really does add to presentation of the fight. A lot of the fights you can just enjoy just sitting back and watching your characters run havoc on the enemy. This doesnt mean the games fighting is without challenge. Many times you will have to take an active role by pausing and giving commands to your characters.

The game also features a very interesting light and dark side system, where almost every mission can be solved through different path. The game took about 40 hours to beat the first time through but begs to be played a second time as people react differently depending if you are on the light path or the dark path.

Of course none of this would matter if the game didnt have an interesting story. The game luckily has an awesome story. Not only is it filled plot twist on a personal level but the story is grand in scale. You get to hear the stories of every member in your party with all there baggage but at the same time you are trying to rescue the entire Galaxy.

KOTOR is an awesome game that is just a big of an Epic as the franchise it is based upon. Any fans of Star Wars will love this game but there is a lot of just good role-playing and story telling for everyone to enjoy.

I'm wrapping up Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Looks like it's getting to the climax, but I have this stupid barrier, to where I have to control more territories to be able to continue. How annoying, considering I did all that before I was kicked out of Los Santos. So I'm pretty much redoing everything I did at the beginning of the game. hurr. It's harder this time around because the majority of the NPC's are rioting, as there are less cars to jack, and gangs to shoot.

It looks as if the game engine was never meant to handle this much action, because the environment is now far more sparse than it's ever been.

I beat Resident Evil 5 for 360 last night. It. Was. Awesome. Loved the ending. A great way for *SPOILER* to die. You know, I find it far more exhilarating to be fighting a massive boss, close to death, low on ammo, rather than zombie dogs crashing through windows. Just saying.

So I played 16 missions in Sky Kid (an arcade port on the GCN). I have no idea why I subjected myself to that.

I mean, it's not as bad as I originally thought it was going to be, but it wasn't that great either. I give it props for being maddeningly difficult, though. That, and the music is maddening, in and of itself.

Dissidia: Duodecim. Holy pluck, what a disappointing story -_- Some good scenes, but nowhere near the kind of quality I hoped for. The three Cosmos characters on Chaos' side is barely even explored, and felt like it wasn't even worth doing in the long run. The only one that did seem kind of interesting was Terra; it only makes sense, as Kefka had her under his control in FFVI too–even if only for the beginning sequence. I love the fights and new battlegrounds in this game, but as I hold high expectations for story in any game, this was a total letdown. The scene with Laguna and Cloud of Darkness was a highlight, but other than that I came away indifferent from it. Working on the Thirteenth Cycle now, albeit with a severe lack of motivation now as a.) I've already mastered all the original characters so battles aren't even fun, and b.) I've been through their stories twice on the original disc already. But I want to unlock Gilgamesh and Prishe so I'm gonna keep at it. It doesn't really bother me so much that FFI, II, III, VI and IX didn't get a new character; they all got a new battleground, and FFI got its entire world map used for traversing the story so I really can't complain ^^ I've yet to see if they implemented any kind of airship into the world map, as I've still got three story modes to go, but I doubt it (I deliberately didn't research the game too much so I wouldn't spoil it for myself, but the Prishe and Gilgamesh thing I had to check out). Anyway, yeah.

I've been playing the shit out of it and loving every moment.
This is best McGee game since...well...hell...the original Alice.
XD

The graphics are amazing - all that style, detail and freaking color I miss.
The music/sounds are great.
The combat is fairly fluid - and the camera doesn't fight you, like some games...
The voice acting is a little mixed, but overall good and British.

My biggest issue with it is some of the tasks feel the same (like fetch quests).
But given how darn pretty it is, you get over it.

PS3 and 360 are still broke and tired of playing Brawl since it's the only thing worthwhile on the Wii, so I'm still going through old titles.
Found a beat up, scratched up copy of Fable for the OG Xbox in a box. Plays fine except some chugs during cutscenes. Not sure if its because of the scratches or it just played like that originally, but enjoying it anyway.
After that it will be between finishing Breakdown, Legacy of Kain: Defiance, or replaying Armed and Dangerous, Timesplitters 2 or Metal Arms.

Simpsons Hit&Run
Tales of Legendia
Final Fantasy VIII (I bought it off PS Store because it was morally the right thing to do dammit and i beat it on a ROM the first time.... now to figure out just what the fuck went on)
Final Fantasy IX (I played like 4 hrs in on a ROM, hard drive crashed, and now i am playing it again)

i put infamous in bold cause that's what i played most recently, i just beat the first island (got 100% territory or w/e you call it but I didn't 100% the island) but i feel like playing something else on the list cause i'm bored of the game for now. i get bored of most video games quickly. Recently finished Crisis Core , FFVII, watched ACC and I am now playing Dirge of Cerberus to cap off the Compilation of FFVII experience. I suck so bad at shooters and normally avoid them but just watching all the cutscenes from the event viewer isn't the same as playing through the game. Fortunately, I was able to carry over my guns from my last play through (back in 2006) using the "new game plus" feature but that also meant that I was stuck playing on Ex-hard mode. So far, I've made it to Ch.6 "Deepground Strikes Back" and spent the 200,000 gil needed for the Ultima Weapon, so I am looking forward to using that until Vincent equips the Death Penalty later in the game.

Being able to create your own avatar and interact with others in the SW Universe, set before the Movies was the main draw in I suspect. Personally, I found KotOR to be quite enjoyable, but to each their own.

Just finished my first (of six) playthroughs of Mass Effect, and carried my character over to Mass Effect 2. Having to rebuild my game saves after formatting my HDD sucks... but gives me something to do, at least til Saints Row The Third is released in October.

KOTOR 1 sucks. Big time, I mean, yeah, it's a nice battle system after all. But the story is one of the most horrible cliche storms ever.

KOTOR 2 on the other hand, a game which I've just finished!. IS FUCKING AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a shame that KotOR II TSL, was rushed to release and had numerous missing parts to it. Don't get me wrong, it is a good game... but could've been a lot better, as KotOR at least was a complete game upon release. In the upcoming The Old Republic MMO, at least the fates of Revan and The Exile 'should' be revealed.

I've played it with the Restoration Content Mod, Full of BUGS and crashes, but it was worth the effort.

But the really negative thing that I can say is that the Odyssey Engine does not make justice to this game. Many scenes, as awesome the storyline, characters and voice acting is, the scenes can look too fucking cheezy.

EDIT: Regarding the MMO, I'm not fired up by it at all for several but fully personal reasons.

1- BioWare handling the Storyline. Big Negative.
2-MMO Severe Negative point here.

The rest will speak for itself. Specially the MMO related part.

Darth Revan
06-21-2011, 01:49 AM
Even with the Restoration Content Mod, KotOR II TSL is a good game though just not as good as the first imo. The whole story of Revan, why he did what he did (Yes, it's confirmed that canonlly speaking Revan is male and The Exile is female), the (second) Sith War within a century (First being led by Exar Kun 50 years prior to the game) and the reasoning behind it and his redemption. Yes, typical sci fi story fare I don't deny that, but still a worthy installment into the Star Wars saga. KotOR II TSL, follows on from what came before and added more onto the story. I truly wished BioWare had made the third installment... but LucasArts told them to do otherwise hence the MMO.

BioWare can make a good story topopoz, look at some of their other examples. Jade Empire for one, has a good story and the battle system was quite fluid and easy to use as well. Same goes for the Mass Effect, Dragon Age series, Baldur's Gate II, Neverwinter Nights etc etc etc. Speaking about MMO's, each person is different and having played multiple MMO's (EverQuest, WoW, Guild Wars, FFXI etc), each one is different. I'm willing to give BioWare the benefit of the doubt with TOR and give it a chance to impress me. If SE was able to make a story for FFXI (really, multiple stories actually), then so can BioWare with TOR.

I severily disagree with this. But I'm not going to talk about in how many ways I think KOTOR II is better.

You've just described me KoTOR 1 only here. And I don't consider it worthy. Because it was more of the same with paper thin characters. Cliche Storm and Cheezy Dialogues. Besides ANOTHER REDEMPTION STORYLINE?! Are you really serious, how much more does LucasArts want's to make money out of this? For Except HK-47, Jolee Bindo and Canderous Ordo. Not one character of KoTOR 1 is worth remember.

KotOR II TSL, follows on from what came before and added more onto the story.

Follow what came before yes, But it didn't only added more story, it made all fucking KOTOR 1 Make sense and created the Depth that needed AND created a wonderful deep storyline that followed with equally and pontentially awesome characters. Breaking and deconstructing every trope and plot device that any star wars entry ever did.
It's truly a piece of art worth held in a monolith and be recognized and remembered for NOT DOING WHAT ANY STAR WARS MOVIE DID.
And don't get me wrong, I love every single Star Wars movie, it just that KoTOR 2 did everything I wished to see in a Star Wars Storyline.

I truly wished BioWare had made the third installment...
I truly wished Obsidian made the Third Installment...

but LucasArts told them to do otherwise hence the MMO.
It was only natural to happen.

BioWare can make a good story topopoz.
I'm skeptical.

Jade Empire for one, has a good story and the battle system was quite fluid and easy to use as well.
Disagree, Actually I consider this to be the worst BioWare Game.

Same goes for the Mass Effect
Decent storyline

Dragon Age series
Dragon Age 1 almost feels like Neverwitnter Nights 1

Baldur's Gate II
Not Played but, I certainly won't, I hate the Engine and gameplay.

I'll gave it a chance, Gameplaywise. But I'm not buying the fact that they can make a good storyline that makes sense, considering the extremely high possibility that every little content that they will add in the future will be a pulling stuff right off your ass.

So you see, I like the Idea of a StarWars MMO, but MMO's aren't played because of Storyline 99% of the times, Single Player RPG's are.

Decided to go through my collection, and make sure I'd completed everything I own. So I went back to quite a few games I'd started, but not really gotten into, and gave them all another go.

So I ended up playing Alan Wake, Vanquish, Demon's Souls and Dead Space: Extraction through to completion (which wasn't easy in the case of Demon's Souls, let me tell you...)

But overall, I'm glad I played them. AW is still nowhere near as good as it could have been, but its also not as bad as it seems at first. Vanquish is surprisingly good too, but it feels like its lacking a little something that would make it a truly great game. Demon's Souls was just awesome once I finally got into it properly, and DS:E was probably the best lightgun game I've ever played (which might not be saying much, but it really is a great little game).

Oh, and LA Noire, but that was a bit 'meh' IMO. Not a bad game, but not a particularly amazing one either.

Dungeon Siege 3 and F.E.A.R 3.

DS3 is surprisingly enjoyable. Its a kind of 'rubbishy, but still ruggedly playable' sort of game. Only problem is the price - they're charging way too much for it. Full whack for what is very obviously a budget game. Shave 20 quid off the asking price, and it'd be fine.

Not played much of FEAR 3 yet. but the signs aren't good, from what I have played. Going to try and grin and bear it, later on tonight.

Windwaker was awesome. Ocarina of Time 3D is even better. Get it. Love it. You don't really notice any differences when you play the game, because it's essentially the same, however when you compare the two side by side, the new character models and textures stand out. It's excellent. I'm about to go into the Gerudu Desert and get into that dungeon. I'm just flowing in nostalgia right about now. I'm also trying to get into the side quests that I didn't complete in the original. I've gotten all the Big Poes, to boot.

Hmm, it's weird how many people I've seen playing Wind Waker lately. I've been playing through it lately and I just found out Garamond has been too.

Anyway, I sort of agree with Purrr about Ocarina of Time. I like the game, but there were a few better games that came out in that generation (Majora's Mask and METAL GEAR SOLID being just a couple). Playing it now, I usually have a hard time getting through many of the dungeons because I find them really dull. This is especially true for Jabu Jabu's Belly, maybe one of the worst Zelda dungeons for me.

The overwhelmingly positive reception OoT3D is getting seems to me to just be people not daring to say a bad thing about OoT because of its importance in gaming history. Reviewers are always scared of saying a bad thing about a first party Nintendo game though...

As for whether I prefer Wind Waker or OoT, it's a pretty tough call. The characters and the world are a lot warmer and funnier in Wind Waker, I think, but rarely do islands feel as significant as a town in OoT. There's only a few large and well populated islands, which is a shame. However, there are many more secrets and other fine touches in WW, many of which you won't see unless you visit a location at the right time (Majora's Mask does this a lot better though, admittedly). I actually don't find the sailing to be all that tedious since there's usually something new to see off in the distance. Collecting the triforce pieces is boring though, since you're revisiting a lot of locations you've already seen. Anyway, I can't really decide whether I prefer OoT or Wind Waker.

I'm also playing through ALttP again, in response to the topic. I've never finished the game before and honestly never understood the love it gets. When it comes to 2D Zeldas, I've always thought Link's Awakening and the Oracle games were better. I'll see if I can get through it this time though.

I played OOT several times up to quite a few years after it first came out, including the remixed dungeons on the GameCube disc, and I never stopped loving it as much as I did the first time. It and MM have my favorite atmosphere of any of the Zelda games, which is a large part of why I can keep replaying it so many times.

Anyway I think certainly some of the games that came after it improved on it in certain ways and it would be stupid if they didn't. Of course it did have some flaws (I agree with chewey that jabu jabu's belly is a bad dungeon, and like everyone else I also hate the water temple, but I think I like every other one.) But it doesn't change the fact that it is a really, really good game and I think it really deserved the hype it got when it came out, and it's rightly remembered as one of the biggest landmarks in gaming. So in other words I completely disagree with Purrr and think he is wrong.

Maxx Skywalker
07-06-2011, 12:48 AM
Why does the water temple get so much hate. When I first went through it (about four/five years ago), it really wasn't that bad. Challenging, but not to the point of tedium and frustration. When I went through it again on DS, I felt, once again, that it wasn't that bad. I agree that Jabu Jabu's Bellly isn't the greatest dungeon ever, but I wouldn't call it bad by any means. When I played Kingdom Hearts, the Whale's Belly reminded me so much of this dungeon. Good times.

In Windwaker, I enjoyed sailing around. Didn't find it tedious, or boring at all. In fact, I reveled in the freedom that the open expanse of the water gave me.

Majora's Mask is my favorite. It's my first Zelda, so it get props for that. Loved the three day cycle.

ROKUSHO
07-06-2011, 09:14 AM
i despise water temple for the "backtracking" you had to do, specially if you fucked up the water level.
however, i also like it because you face shadow link (to hell with "dark link" bullshit, this is a shadow), the only enemy in the entire fucking zeldaverse that is on par with you (unless you pussied out and use the hammer).

however, zelda ALTTP is a much better game, its longer, a better story and its harder.

I noticed I had a connectivity problem with another shriner here when we were tying to play RE5. It could never connect to him for some strange reason. It may have something to do with the ports, but I wasn't willing to tinker with the router settings to figure it out. For the record, I didn't do a whole of backtracking in the Water Dungeon, in either playthrough. I suppose I got the right items at the right times.

None of the dungeons in OoT compare to the difficulty of either of the NES titles, so none of the newer titles really phase me that much.

After a few play throughs on the first stage, it seems simple enough. I would say that aiming is not the most accurate either. The stupid hints says aim using the RS, but it doesn't aim accurate for crap, so I just use the LS. Still trying to obtain the "Skilled" trophy on the first stage on "Braindead", but it's proving to be a bit more difficult than I expected. Pretty close to perfecting a run though.
