I've hit the Ice Titan at the end of the Olympus Coliseum on the 30th Layer in Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded. I've spent at least two weeks working up to this point. I'm just glad it's not Sephiroth as he's usually far more difficult than any other boss in the game. At this point I'm making it about a quarter of the way through its lifebar before it destroys my party. Sucks, I only have one Auto-Life License.

Finished The Witcher 2, and I have to ask what on earth people are going on about when they say this is a hard game?! I'm not some kind of gaming guru, and I own up when I find games hard, but this game really, really isn't hard. I burned through it, did hardly any of the sidequests, never drank any potions, never used any bombs, traps, oils, enhancements (well, I used some sword and armour enhancements before the final battle, because I figured why not?), never crafted any items, made any potions etc etc. (I can never be bothered doing stuff like this, except if it becomes apparent that the game is too hard without doing it).

Which wasn't the case here, as the game was ridiculously easy, all the way through. Just roll around the enemies, give them a few hard/light/hard combo hits, then roll away if they still aren't dead and do it again. The bosses all had charge/heavy sweep attacks that were easy to roll around, and had huge followthroughs that left them wide open. And the few really huge enemies, all had instantly learnable attacks patterns. The game gives you 6 really powerful spells right at the start, and together with the fact that the old 'roll about and hit from behind' gag works on absolutely everyone, this game couldn't really have been easier.

Other than that though, it was a decent game I guess. Not having played the first one (its not available on the 360), I couldn't connect with the main characters, and didn't really care at all about them, Not to the extent that I disliked them either, its just that curiosity over what was going on in the main plot was pretty much the only thing keeping me going at times. I did think that the Prologue was by far the best section of the game though. Act 1 was awful, Act 2 was okayish (and finally had a few characters I actually cared about), but the big battle it had been building up to, turned out to be a bit lame, and Act 3 was as rushed as any game's final levels.

To be fair, it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. I'm not convinced I'd want to play another one though.

If you don't abuse the rolling, the game is challenging. Some people don't realise the rolling in the game makes combat completely trivial, I guess.

Its poor game design when there is a basic feature that is so good, it amounts to cheating when you use it! I don't play games like The Witcher 2 for their gameplay, so I have no intention of making things harder on myself than they need to be. I was just greatly surprised that after all the bellyaching I'd heard from gamers and critics alike about the difficulty of the game (because many critics scored it down because it was apparently so hard), that it turned out to be such a walkover.

Vrykolas
04-22-2012, 10:43 AM
I guess critics are under a bit of pressure though, seeing as how they have to get through as many games as they can, as fast as they can, to be able to write about them. But that means if they encounter any difficulty at all, they tend to say the game is really hard. At least with something like Demon's Souls, it was kind of justified, but even then neither it nor Dark Souls are anywhere near as hard as most critics make out.

The reaction to Witcher 2 is just bizarre though. Put the shielding spell up, pay even a modest amount of attention to what you are doing, and you'll win every fight no problem. And besides, half the time, you're accompanied by ally NPCs who can't die!

chewey
04-22-2012, 02:06 PM
I'm surprised the Souls games got as much attention as they did. Monster Hunter was pretty much ignored in the West because of its difficulty and intentionally obscure systems. Maybe that will change now with Nintendo getting involved with the series.

On the topic of European RPGs, Risen 2 is out soon. It's out this week on PC and next month on consoles, I think. I didn't mind the first, but I think I stopped playing at around the half way mark. Hopefully the sequel has combat that isn't garbage.

Survival horror:This game requires a lot of tinking and strategy.I guarantee that you will be wondering around for hours trying to figure out what to do.

Running around sometimes wastes energy, and forces you to restart over and over. The only thing i can think to do,is to make one save for exploring, and one for advancing. If you don't know what to do,you waste a lot of time and energy, and that only increases the odds of running out of ammo and medicine and dying. Its often very hard to avoid getting hit in resident evil.My point is that resident evil games require a lot of thinking and strategy to avoid being mauled to death by zombies, and other monstruosities.

I downloaded and played Blacklight: Retribution quite a bit last night on the PC. It's a F2P (Free to Play) FPS that is a sequel to a game that you had to pay for on XBLA and Steam known as Blacklight: Tango Down. The coolest part about this F2P model is that you don't have pay for anything if you don't want to as all the content in the game is available to the player by naturally progressing through the game. You can spend real money to buy the weapon modifications and skins early, however with the in-game currency setup similar to that of BlackOps, there's no real need to.

It's a well made F2P FPS that plays really well, and looks great. I definitely recommend this game, not only because it is a step above your normal F2P fair, but simply because there is no real need to pay for anything in this game.

I also downloaded the Super Smash Bros. Beta mod labeled Project M, and that was cool too.

chewey
04-23-2012, 05:04 AM
I downloaded the same game a couple days ago too. I would say it's definitely a pay to win game, with plenty of (very powerful) stuff only being purchasable with real money. Fortunately, there aren't a ton of people around with these overpowered weapons because they cost maybe $5+ to buy permanently which is stupidly expensive. I don't think many people are keen to throw real money down on something they can only keep for a limited amount of time either.

The game doesn't have any Australia servers, which is a bother. I play on the US - West servers and I get a latency of about 220-250ms which isn't terrible but still sucks.

I would say gameplay wise it's perfectly fine, but they've made everything in the game too expensive. I would say Tribes: Ascend is a much better free to play online FPS. Still, I'm having fun with the game for now.

One thing I don't like, is when an asshole reviewer (*cough*... Tom McShea ... *ahem*) gives a really good game (like Skyward Sword) a 7/10 due to poor controls in their opinion, but later says that even if the game had better controls, they'd still give it just as low of a score. This only proves that they are not a good reviewer, as the things they're supposed to take into account are being ignored. What's worse is when they give another game that's nothing worthy of a better score (like NBA 2K12) an 8.5. Kid Icarus: Uprising also got a 7 due to controls, but that's stupid, because the controls can be changed to just about any combination.

Never trust 'official' reviews. They are never truly conclusive and more often than not, have the reviewer brown-nosing the developer in question. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if some companies paid some of the mainstream review sites to give favorable reviews for their games. Mass Effect 3 is one of those titles which has divided some of the gaming community into, what I call, four groups: Those who hate the ending, Those who like the ending, Those who care only for the first 90% of the game... then the group I fall, I no longer care at all.

Even with the proposed Extended Ending DLC coming sometime this Summer (In the U.S.), they still won't appeal to every fan,and there will most assuredly be more complaints about it. I honestly can't believe that I've been disappointed in two of the four big games to come out in the last seven months, the two in question being: Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim. The other two... well, Saints Row The Third had it's faults, but is still a damn fun game to play and Assassin's Creed Revolutions... still haven't played it yet.

Installed VirtualBox last night in an attempt to get a retail copy of Fallout to work correctly on my Windows 7 64bit machine. Apparently, Win7 doesn't like older games made for 32bit and under operating systems as it doesn't display the colors correctly. So I'm attempting to run the game in a WinXP environment, but now the game no longer displays the menu, but plays the intro cinematic with correct colors. I can't seem to win at this.

I'm hoping I can get this to work, as this will have to be the means I use to play older retail games that don't have patches that fix these issues. Especially if I don't go through gog.com or Steam for these older games.

I think you might want to get some anger management, because nobody should get that angry to do something as drastic as that. No game is worth breaking and burning over anything. I think that pretty much goes for everything else, for that matter(Well, except maybe, Action 52 and Big Rigs). You couldn't get the last achievement, so what? Just take a break, come back to it later and you might be able to get it after failing 5 times. :)

No, I'm done with that game... and more than likely done with anything BioWare decides to release. That achievement in question, has been bugging me ever since the Golems of Ammgarrak DLC came out a couple of years ago, and after trying to get it for so many times now (5 failed attempts today alone), I just can't be bothered. That and I think my now dislike and borderline loathing of BioWare (especially with how they handled the BS Mass Effect 3 garbage) attributed to my anger being taken out on that disc.

Besides... To quote former shriner, Prak, I did take the 'measured and appropriate response' when my cousin loaned me his copy of Kingdom Hearts... snapped the disc in half right in front of his eyes. Even now, remembering that day... brings a smile to my face.

On the issue of reviews, there's really no point in getting too worked up about it. The industry is extremely broken in that regard. Corrupt is not really the right word, because there's very little anybody could do to make things different, and people like it this way anyway.

Basically, games developers don't have to send review copies, give exclusive interviews, invitations to pre-showings of games, nor do they have to place adverts in mags and on websites. These are all things that any review site/mag needs. Because if you can't get the inside scoop before everyone else, show stuff that nobody else has etc, then people will go elsewhere for their news. So they have to stay in the developer's good graces, and that means giving their games favourable reviews. Therefore, AAA games always get max or near max scores.

And even though this is an extremely disingenuous way for the industry to work, seeing as how critics present themselves as people who will help you to make informed choices and give accurate reports on the games they play, in practice nobody really minds. People only want to hear good news about upcoming games,so even if a critic was to break formation, make a principled stand and say what they actually thought, then people invariably disbelieve it, and curse the person in question for saying such a thing (even though they themselves won't have played it yet).

And if it turns out that the game is in fact awful or at least not as great as people were hoping, they just move on to the next hyped up game. They do not however accept that the critic who warned them was right, nor do they forgive him. Because increasingly, games are only of interest to the public in the week or so around launch. Its always been a factor of course, but its been getting worse for ages. Its just a neverending procession now - where critics lie that every new AAA game is the mecca of gaming we've been waiting for, we all buy it and talk about it for a week or so and then the cycle starts up again.

Everyone knows its bogus, but everyone is too busy caught up in the hysteria over the latest titles, thinking 'Maybe this time its true' and hoping for more classics, that are just a couple of weeks away.

@DoDoRay9000: Chest infection which induced a asthma attack. Not fun trying to get someone to give me a lift to the hospital while gasping for breath. Ok now, just felt like Death warmed up for awhile...

I WAS playing Dragon Age: Origins... in a last ditched attempt to get that last fucking piece of shit achievement... After 5 fail attempts, my anger got the better of me and I snapped the disc in half... and like what Minnesota Burns (Trolls gamers in Modern Warfare 2/3 etc on youtube) did to his copy of Black Ops (IE: He burnt it), I pretty much did the same thing. I swear while it was burning... I could hearRay Myzuka (BioWare's CEO) and Mark Garrah (Project lead for Dragon Age: Origins) screaming...

Back to my Gamecube and Skies of Arcadia Legends.

I thought the Ninja Gaiden 3 demo (and the full game) was terrible. They just turned the game into a bland button masher. It was far too easy and very stripped down compared to 1 and 2.

Blackwater

Been playing it with a controller instead of the kinect because the controls started getting screwy on me for some reason. But I like the concept of taking cover, firing, and reloading using your body(almost like a lightgun game that doesn't require a lightgun). It just needed some refinement.

Edit: Already finished with it. Now playing The Walking Dead EP 1. Gameplay sort of reminds me of Heavy Rain. :)

Actually I don't have that many discs and consoles which get broken that much. So far, my Xbox 360 Slim has been performing quite well and as I don't loan out games anymore to anyone, I may only get minor scratches etc on discs which can be easily repaired. I admit, I do need a new PC though...

My 360 froze on me 5 times or more(didn't get any Red Rings of Death, though). Sad thing is, my PS3 only froze on me once(so far) and my Wii hasn't frozen on my at all. Something I'll never understand.

Just finished a week of playing Halo 1-3. Started playing the Anniversary Edition of Halo 1 last weekend, which I bought ages ago and had been meaning to get round to. Finally did so, and was hooked all over again. Absolutely awsome game, and still the best of the series IMO. I love the hidden terminals in the new edition, and it gives me great hope that Halo 4 will be a return to form for the series. 343 really capture the spirit and the magic of the first game in those cutscenes, which Bungie never managed to do again in the sequels.

But still Halo 2 and 3 are still great games and I thoroughly enjoyed going through them again. November can't come soon enough - I'm well and truly pumped up for Halo 4 now!

Halo: Reach

I'm glad Halo 4 won't have Armor Lock. I'm so sick of people using it like wussess. I only use it when a grenade is near me, when a rocket is fired at me, and when I'm about to get run over. But you when you're firing your weapon at them and their shield is gone, they'll use armor lock. :/

Did you try setting the compatibility lower, and click on "Run in 256 colors" and "Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution? Or changing your desktop resolution?

You can also check here The Escapist : Forums : Gaming Discussion : Fallout collection/Windows 7 incompatibility (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.121591-Fallout-collection-Windows-7-incompatibility)

Setting compatibility and color restrictions does not work. Also, changing the monitor resolution never works. Believe me, I've already attempted that on several other occasions (more specifically with House of the Dead). I ended up Bing'ng the solution and found the High Resolution patches on the No Mutants Allowed forums. I also applied the Recreation Project to Fallout 2. Whether that allowed me to adjust resolution settings or not, I don't know.

Either way, the High Resolution patches allowed Fallout to work at my monitor's resolution of 1600x900. Fallout 2 required the in-game resolution settings to be changed after the installation of the HD patch. I haven't even tried Tactics yet, but I'm presuming the same will apply to that as well.

On another note, I beat Kingdom Hearts: Re:Coded ~ DS the other day. Ended well, but even so, Castle Oblivion was a real drag, especially after defeating a massive boss. Definitely redeemed itself on the last leg of the journey. Spent 40+ hours in the game, and then some as I'm trying to beat the last system sector to receive 100% completion and the Secret Ending.

Seeing as how I'm not interested in any of the upcoming releases until the end of the year (Halo 4 and most likely Bioshock Infinite I guess), I'm at a bit of a loose end gaming wise. As far as I can see, my only options are to either take the plunge on either a Vita or 3DS (highly unlikely, given they are still underperforming and have nothing I really want to play), or go for something older.

So unless I see a huge price cut on either the Vita or 3DS, I've narrowed my choices down to Persona 4 on the PS2, Morrowind on the Xbox or Deus Ex 1 on the PS2. And yes, I know I said I was going to buy Morrowind before, but Skyrim put me off Elder Scrolls so utterly that I gave up on the idea. Time has passed though, my copy of Skyrim is safely lent out to a friend on a hopefully extended basis, and I might be ready to give Morrowind a go now. On the other hand, I really want to play a good cyberpunk game, because that's probably my favourite setting for anything (except maybe Victorian Britain). Human Revolution didn't do much for me, but people do say that Deus Ex 1 is a classic of all time.

Or I could go with Persona 4, but I've kind of been holding back on that, because we should be getting Persona 4: The Golden at some point on the Vita. Its pretty much the only game I'm interested in on the Vita and I was saving it up as my reason to get a Vita. I know its a bit much to buy a system for one game, but in my experience, so long as you can get over that intial hump of buying the console, you'll find a few other games present themselves that you hadn't spotted or realised you might want.

So... an awkward choice. I'm not a big fan of going back to buying games for old consoles, because I prefer to try and support the current gen of the time. But I'm out of options, as I really do not want any of the games coming out over the next 2 quarters or so.

Or I could just go into hibernation until the end of the year. Hmm...

@Jessie: I was able to get Fallout: Tactics to work without too many problems. I only applied the High Res patch and it played straight out.

I do have a question about Fallout 2, however; it doesn't fill the screen when you install the high resolution patch like the first game does, is there a patch that fixes this?

Playing through Tomorrow Never Dies for PSone. Everyone says it's so horrible, but I disagree. It's not a great game by any means, but neither is it horrible. The skiing sections are probably the worst sequences in the game, but once I realized that the PS2 shuts off the analog sticks when you boot up a PSone title, I found that it controlled much better. Still, not the smoothest experience ever, but certainly not unplayable. I still encounter frame rate drops, texture pop-in and clipping, as well as heavy dark fog, and at times I get stuck on the environment. I have not experienced the issue where you get stuck in first person view while going down stairs, so I don't know how that occurs.

Overall, it's pretty average. And short. But I don't have any complaints about that. I'm about done with it, so I expect to be finished with it by the end of the night.

I laugh in the face of censorship. In fact I force guys to shoot all their friends and then blow their brains out in front of me, or throw grenades indiscriminately into crowds of cowering innocent people to get at an enemy in cover. I do all this in front of the censors, and I care not what they say! That's the kind of thing you can do in Syndicate, and trust me - it *never* gets old! Yeah its callous as hell, but what did they expect from Syndicate?! If you're going to tell a story about mentally conditioned cyborg killers on a payroll, then you have to go all in, or its just going to feel fake and undermine the whole point of the story and setup. The game does a great job of letting you see how agents view the world, and how they don't see what they do as a problem at all. Its thrilling at times, shocking at others. Its done really well at times, it truly is.

But hey, hold the front page, right? 'Censors don't even bother to try and understand artistic vision behind product, and offer knee jerk reaction'. 'Video game violence corrupts, says Man Who Doesn't Know What He's Talking About'.

Big shock there... Yet another horror story from the Australian gaming scene - I'd say they're getting into the spirit of Syndicate pretty well by restricting the flow of information to the people! I honestly don't know how you cope, as I'd go absolutely bonkers if I had to put up with all that interference on prices and censorship. Makes me glad to live in Britain - we're pretty good when it comes to this sort of thing. You should move here as a 'Games Exile'!

Anyway, the game is a good solid piece of entertainment. I guess people will always wonder what could have been if Starbreeze had had more money to spend on it, and really given it the full Bioshock style epic treatment. But for what it is, I loved it. Its like Robocop at times, and I've always wanted a good modern Robocop game. This is about as close as I'm ever going to get, and the sheer brutality of the Syndicate vision is in keeping with that, and is extremely refreshing.

It was announced half way through last year. It was supposed to be in place by the end of 2011, but that didn't happen. I'm not sure when they're planning on doing it now.

I also remember reading that our R18+ rating would still be a little strict so it's a bit useless.

Import everything.

When you buy them it asks you for how long you'd like to have them. Buying them permanently is super expensive, which is what I said several pages back.

I really wonder how you missed it was only going to be temporary, since they make that pretty clear.

'cause I didn't look. That was my first play session, and I really just wanted to get in the game. I didn't notice that you could set the length of time the unlocks were available to you. I did yesterday though, so I'm planning on trudging through to unlock those indefinitely.

'Video game violence corrupts, says Man Who Doesn't Know What He's Talking About'.

lol, and they wanted to give Manhunt 2 an AO rating. The hypocrisy of the system is quite alarming, and it really shouldn't be. Just because a particular publisher decides to develop a particularly gruesome game (though it ends up not being terribly gruesome even without the censorship), doesn't mean they should be targeted because they came out with Grand Theft Auto (which wasn't that bad to begin with), when games like Syndicate receive an M rating without so much as a second look (I'm in no way saying it should receive anything but an M on it). Though honestly with a ban hammer in place in the AU, it makes it even worse with the silly politics.

the academy, and the festival themes. repetitive as FUCKING HELL. (but like i said, the battle music is pretty badass, along with the intro).
im currently one dungeon after you (which lacked music), heading for the next city, lets see how that theme plays out.

the game is not bad, its actually a pretty solid game, even in todays standards (since it was sort of a launch game) it looks good, and the battle system is quite simple and fast.

Don't get me wrong, Grand Theft Auto IV is a good game... just, it was far too serious for my liking. Probably why I love the Saints Row series for it's zaniness and madcap activities (In Saints Row 2 being able to throw people into jet turbines or into a helicopter's blades... ). The Ballad of Gay Tony was fun and did give me some enjoyment... at least didn't have my cousin calling every five minutes wanting to 'Go see big fake american titties!!'...

I'm playing Silent Hill: Homecoming and I'm liking it much more then I would've thought. While it got mostly low score's in reviews, in think it's much better then what the reviews told me (but it seems I cannot depend on reviews from most of the big game/review sites nowadays).

I believe it really has the Silent Hill "feel". It has some great visuals, monsters, music and it definitely gives me that discomforted feeling when I get into the really dark "otherworld" area's. Especially when I play it at night with headphones on.

There's much more emphasis on the combat, which is ok, but isn't something I would look for in a Silent Hill title.
I hate that there isn't much ammo in the game, plus healing is also a problem at times. Ofcourse it does give it more of a challenge.

Decided that I might as well have a go at the 'From Ashes' DLC for Mass Effect 3. It was unremarkable in the extreme, but even with my concerns at how hokey and obvious it is to have a Prothean squadmate, I must say I quite like Javik. He's the Mandalorian/Qunari etc 'Warlike but Wise' archetype of this game, and I love characters like that. The actual mission on Eden Prime was terrible though - really short and utterly boring (just lots and lots of basic Cerberus troops and that's it).

Probably the biggest thing I took away from it though, is how totally duped I'd been by that blue skinned fraud, Liara! We get to the extra content of the final game in the series, and we discover that she doesn't know the first thing about Prothean society or culture... What the hell?! So what gives her the right to go around calling herself a 'Prothean Expert'?! No wonder we could never talk to her about the Protheans in any of the other games (always felt a bit odd, considering Shepard can talk to everyone else about their interests, but could never speak to one of the most important characters about her supposed specialist subject - now we know why lol!)

Seriously, it was okay I guess. An extra squadmate is one of the best features a DLC can give you, and mostly helps to offset the general mediocrity of the mission itself. It was like most DLC really - okayish, but not clear why you had to spend extra money for it.

Other than that, I've been on patrol through my games library, picking off Achievements and Trophies in their natural habitats. Bagged myself some Fable 3 gongs, a couple of Vanquish pelts and the horns of a great white Dead Space 2.

Tell me about it - I have to hold my hands up and say that I just wasn't good enough to complete Mass Effect 2 on Insanity. I tried, but I think it will have to stay as the only achievement I don't have for that game (well, other than any of 'The Arrival' ones). An ignoble admission, but I know when I'm beat.

Squeezed a few more trophies out of Mass Effect 3 though. That game is actually much more interesting, the less successful you are at uniting everyone peacefully (i.e if you actually have to make the tough choices, rather than just being able to Paragon/Renegade persuade your way to victory). Siding with the Salarians over the Genophage is a million times more interesting than curing the Krogan with Wrex and Eve in charge, like 97% of gamers seem to do. If Wreav is in charge, Eve is dead and you sabotage the cure, that produces the most interesting ending, and a real sense of guilt afterwards.

The Quarian/Geth conflict is also much better if you side with one or the other. Siding with the Geth is the most impactful and emotional (especially if Tali is still alive), but siding with the Quarians is pretty good too. The unity ending that everyone goes for is too neat and tidy, and utterly unrealistic.

He also made accusations stating that those who disagreed with his statements were throwing insults at him (name-calling), when they were simply pointing out that their experiences with the game weren't nearly as problematic.

Last night I played a different mode of play in Magic the Gathering. I played what is known as Plain Chase. Which throws in random elements outside of your standard game of Magic. You have this deck in the core of the field that holds Plane Chase cards. At the beginning of each upkeep, a six sided die is rolled giving an option to either Plain Chase by revealing the next card of the Plane Chase library, or utilize Chaos effects which are noted on the cards. Each Plane Chase card has a static ability as well as a Chaos ability, that changes certain elements of the game. Without going into specific details, it really just mixes up the gameplay of Magic, and it's quite entertaining to see the outcome, especially when playing a multiplayer game.

I also finished Bit.Trip Core with my fiance. I was having problems with it, so I enlisted her help. Needless to say, we had some fun.

Dragon's Dogma. I just got through one of the most jaw droppingly pointless and infuriating quests ever. Its the one where the woman who helps you right at the start goes missing, and you're asked to go to the Witchwood and find her. This quest... just...arggh! I spent about 10 minutes or so trying to work out how to get up this cliff, before I realised you have to go through the pawn settlement and out the other side, then bend all the way back round. No big deal, but it perhaps should have tipped me off as to how irritating this quest would become.

Anyway, I find the right path up through the mountains, nearly get squished by a *huge* boulder that some bandits roll at me (seriously, that rock is freaking massive), then race up to teach them a lesson. Which I do, until one of the bandits who looks pretty much like all the others unless you look closely, absolutely tears me in half, laying my whole party out with single blows. A few reloads later, I finally lightning bolt the swine into submission. I then cleave through dozens more bandits and finally arrive at the witchwood. Where I have to do an escort mission... harumph!

But its not just an escort mission. Its one where you have to fight teleporting enemies that are only vulnerable to magic (but I'm a Mage, so thank god for that), in a maze that is coated in thick fog, and the map doesn't work properly because of the witch's magic etc. Not exactly hard (because the wisps are pretty rubbish really), but intensely frustrating trying to find my way around. I eventually stumble on the Witch's house and with immense relief, head on up. Only to find out in short sequence that the witch knows absolutely jack all, and we have to leave - with nothing to show for it *at all!* I just couldn't believe it (and the fact that the person I was escorting just runs off back to the village leaving me to struggle back was the icing on the cake).

Except that it wasn't over at all. Because as I left the wood (which had respawed all its enemies again), I was then set upon by about 70 wolves as I left the area. Packs and packs and packs of them just kept coming every couple of steps, night had fallen so I couldn't see shit, and then I still had to walk all the fucking way back to the starting village, just to complete the quest. The biggest waste of time quest I have ever played. What on earth was the point?!

So yeah, I'm kind of enjoying this game! If nothing else, it got an emotional reaction out of me. That ripped off feeling I got when I finally reached that witch's house and got told 'Sorry, can't help - off you go then' will stay with forever, I think. Plus I nearly had a heart attack when that Hydra boss showed up earlier. The bosses in that game have definately been using banned steroid enhancements - how do the people survive when things that huge are creeping about?!

Its not a perfect game by any means, but its got something, I can't deny it.

Finally finished RE4 on Professional. Man, that was as torturous as RE5 on Professional. I think it's the 4th time I've finished it? 5th? I don't remember. I will say, one thing that's better than RE5 is the setting. Dark, depressing, and pretty eerie at times. They're both great games, though imo.

Playing Beat Hazard on my 360. It's scanning for music right now. I've played the PC demo a looooong time ago and I thought it was a cool and unique. I can't believe I didn't bother buying it before. I'm curious how they programmed the game to pick up literally ANY music you have and use it.

I don't know about that - both RE4 and RE5 have great opening locations (the Spanish Village and the middle east town). The opening scene of RE5 where you walk down that street as the locals glare hatefully at you is one of the most unnerving scenes that RE has produced in years. The atmosphere is so oppressive, and it builds to a great explosion later on when the town rises up in a mob against you. But like I say, both opening sections and locations are very strong. If RE4 had been like its opening all the way through (i.e a great mix of action and horror), then it would been a perfect game.

And you've completed them both on Professional? Very impressive, I must admit.

Thank you.

But the only reason I was able to finish RE5 on Professional mode by myself was because I was using the L Hawk and the semi automatic sniper rifle with infinite ammo and it still didn't make things as easy as I expected at certain points. :p

I guess I'm just rusty at games with the hardest difficulties.

Just finished Assassin's Creed: Revelations. For the past 2 years, it feels like this series has just been killing time more than anything else, it's been all about prophecies and shit and never getting around to doing anything quite yet. Hopefully, that'll change this year. But anyway, Revelations was alright, first time ever they gave Desmond an ounce of personality (much needed), and Constantinople was beautifully realised. Ezio is pushing 60 and can climb building at least twice as fast as he could when he was 20 but whatever, it's fun.

Only playing Mass Effect 3 Galaxy at War mode on Community Challenge weekends, so the rest of the time my gaming is divided between the following (Mainly in attempts to get the achievements I haven't unlocked yet) :

Dragon Age: Origins : (All in a attempt to get the last &^#(^(!! achievement I need for 100%)
Mass Effect 2 : Going (again) to try for the frakking Insanity achievement!
Bully: Scholarship Edition : Going after the achievements I don't have... yet!
Grand Theft Auto IV/The Lost and Damned/The Ballad of Gay Tony : Same as above.
Dynasty Warriors 6 : Same as above.

I try not to juggle too many games at once but here's a small list:

Tales of Graces f - Bought this at launch, dabbed into it here and there but couldn't get around to it due to college. Finally getting some time into it and enjoying it~
Sly 2 - A replay, because I've been hyped for Sly 4 and have been too lazy to get around to replaying the trilogy. Opting to be a trophy whore on the PS3 port for the trilogy out of boredom.
Gravity Rush - Adoring this so far, but merely just started on it.

Ah, so what if you used some of the aids to do your Professional run, Dodo - that's what they're there for really. There's not much point using such upgrades in Normal as you'll just blitz through the game, but they give people a chance to do the harder modes if they put their mind to it. Its still hard, whichever way you slice it. I mean, I personally don't often enjoy playing games on the ultra, ultra hard difficulty settings, because I'm too gung-ho in my playstyle (shotguns and close combat - that's where its at!), and you usually have to go really slowly and carefully on such difficulty settings.

So you do whatever you can to make it fun for yourself, and to get the job done. So IMO, its fair enough to do it like you did. I remember when I was playing Halo on Legendary and after dying on this one section over and over again, I fluked it when the most dangerous enemies that were getting me (cloaked elites with plasma swords) accidentally got themselves caught on some scenery and left themselves open to all die to one grenade, It was a cheap way to progress, but I didn't care - I'll take it!

Persona 4. Awesome game, truly awesome. As with all Atlus games, its teeth grindingly, fist clenchingly, controller destroyingly hard at times though. I was going alright for a while, but then I met Shadow Yukiko and she opened up a universe of agony on me. After many deaths, I finally managed to just about crawl past her, my party decimated and my pride as a gamer in tatters.

I have been playing this as of late:

It's good fun. I'm getting a lot of MegaMan and Metroid vibes. MegaMan moreso than Metroid as the character mirrors more of the BlueBomber than Samus ever is. The level design is spot-on, and the difficulty is a perfect balance between challenge and fun. Not as crazy hard as people state, but maybe I'm not that far into it yet. The story is intriguing as well, as it's more than just the basic tripe that shooters often have. It feels more like an RPG story rather than a story designed for a shooter. Good stuff. Some conversion issues aside, the remake overall holds up well to the original, though the "Classic" mode is absolutely useless giving you blurry sprites from the original game in place of the polygonal character models. No attempt was made here to scale the sprites over, and this is quite disappointing, because you can see the characters better this way, however the sprites just look plain ugly in comparison to the environments. In the regular "Story" mode, the camera is out way too far, but once you've grown accustomed to squinting at your character, it's really not all that bad. I would have preferred if it had been scaled in a bit more, but it'll have to suffice as there are no options to fix this.

Good shooty fun though. I recommend this game to anyone, whether it be this remake, or the original version, which is available for free btw.

Never heard of Cave Story. I looked it up and I might give the freeware version a shot since I currently don't own a 3DS.

Right now, not really playing Eve of Extinction since I've finished it yesterday(pretty good, but not the best and not as bad as IGN made it out to be, imo. Though, the camera could've been a WHOLE lot a better) but just trying to do a complete soundtrack rip of the game using the PCSX2 emulator.

I recently picked up the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and have been replaying MGS2: Sons of Liberty. The changes aren't noticeable to me so it's a pretty big disappointment. Also, you have to wait a few seconds for each Codec message to appear once you get to the Codec screen, a problem that didn't come with the original. What's worse is that they changed the control scheme slightly: X is accept and O is cancel. For anyone who has played the original MGS2 and MGS3, where O is accept and X is cancel, that will certainly fuck with you. Why couldn't they have kept it the same? Nay, why couldn't they have had X be accept and O be cancel in the originals like every other PS2 game ever?

I really picked up the game mostly for MGS: Peace Walker as I don't have a PSP but for some reason I just can't get into it. The play style is too different, the plot is boring, the comic-book style cutscenes are unappealing, and the controls are unsatisfactory. If I skip playing this game, I feel like I'm not missing out on all that much. It's the story of, what, how Big Boss got his funding for Outer Heaven? Whopdy-doo. Did that necessitate a story? Probably not, but even if it did, I'll bet this game is so overly convoluted that I'll live happily without knowing it.

I've played the PSP demo of Peace Walker a year ago or 2. It left a good impression on me from what I remember. I didn't know that it was going to be part of the MGS HD Collection, though.

Really? That's surprising. I've known about it for quite sometime, even before hitting WiiWare and DSiWare. I never got around to playing it until now, even though I own it through the '+' version released for Steam, which subsequently came with the Humble Indie Bundle.

But considering all that, it was a well known and highly lauded indie game. I'm really surprised you hadn't caught wind of any of its multiple releases.

Also: the cover shows the unamed main protagonist wielding a sword. I have not encountered a single sword in this game. There is a gun that shoots bubbles however.

Still hammering away at Persona 4. Thankfully, the game got much easier after that early scare with Shadow Yukiko (Atlus strikes again with impossible early bosses a la Matador...) Since then, its been pretty plain sailing, though. A small scare with the boss of the hilarious 'Void Quest' level, who had a really nasty area effect non element spell, but nothing my squad couldn't handle.

But yeah, great game. I probably have to say that I like Persona 3 more (so far anyway), but its damn close and besides, Persona 3 is one of the best RPGs I've ever played, so...
