So, while at Botcon I had the oppurtunity of a LIFETIME to snap a picture of Peter Cullen NEXT to the Optimus Prime truck. And I freaking BLEW IT! At the time, I had the flash off my camera since I was trying to take some good, natural pictures of the truck. Kev shouts to me that Cullen is coming and after much convincing (he was being ushered around by FP) I snapped a quick picture forgetting I didn't have my flash on. Well, with me being in a hurry and him being in a hurry my camera's shutter speed was too slow and what you see is what I got. Man, I'm so mad.I know what you mean, I had the opportunity to snap a great full on view of one of my favorite bands, custom bass.
While at a show, I had taken pics of the different bands playing. The closers that night were the Nekromantix (psychobilly band who's known for the bassist trademark Coffin Bass) and I just happened to make my way to the front of the stage before the crowd rush. I snapped a few good close ups of the band members, even a good "Money Shot" of Kim Nekroman (Lead singer and stand-up bassist) getting down on his coffin bass. At the end of the show, as the crowd left and I looked around for my friends, the roadies began breaking down the equipment. One of the roadies just happened to set the bass down in front of me, so I quickly set up to shoot a few pics. When I reloaded for the 1st shot, I noticed I had spent the roll, so I searched for a new roll and realized I didn't have any left. :notgood:
I was so pissed, it was such a good show only to have it end on a down note.

Once again, I have been denied. So, is the initial wave of movie toys just over, or are there going to be further shipments?
I ran into this little kid there, who for absolutely no reason decided to inform me that "it doesn't come with the Decepticon phone..." I felt bad for him, I guess, but I honestly wanted to say "Who wants Decepticrap anyway, kid?"
Mainly because I didn't know what he was talking about.

I still didn't like it, but at least I gave it a chance.
Well, I will give this one a chance to do the following things, and more:
-Have a good story
-Include a person named "Jeffrey Smithens"
-Become the first Transformers series to ever include a talking dog named Bill
However it has already blown its chance to not make me vomit when I look at it, so I'm not going to watch it. So as to avoid vomiting, you know? It's not that complicated.

There will be tons and tons of shipments of the movie toys
Maybe the "decepticon phone" the kid was looking for is the Real Gear Wire-Tap figure?
I guess it's either that or he wanted a toy of the phone from the movie
They had plenty of Wire-Taps there. In fact, everywhere I've been has had full stocks of Real Gear figures. I don't have anything against them. In fact, Matt from X-E has got me second guessing myself over not getting Spy Shot 6 everytime I see him.

Finaly, T.K. realizes the raping of the classics.
Atom, you are an idiot. I've been saying this about the movie and the new series as long as they've existed. If you're referring to my love of some of the newer toy lines, that hasn't gone anywhere.
Also, the term "rape" applied to animated TV shows/toy lines that have movies made about them is utterly stupid. Nobody's raping anything. The classics are still there for you to enjoy, and you're more than welcome to ignore any of the new stuff you don't like.

Oh no, I'm sure you do. It's why they went ahead to make more shity Transformer series, perhaps. Old school taking a liking to rehashed classic bashing. Beast Wars revived the series from a dying breed to something people cared about again
Not to mention that the Japanese series all had a straight up classic look to them so I don't really know what the fuck you're talking about.
You're right that Beast Machines sucked though.
Atom Narmor
07-15-2007, 05:07 PM
The Japanese got it right because it's their vision anyways, so i'd expect them to keep to the actual look. Don't get me wrong T.K., Beast Wars was well written but nothing beats the creativity and realness of the 80's. I'm one of those guys who HATES Marvel: Ultimates so you get a good idea of where i'm at on this, we're 2 sides of the same scale. The Ultimates totaly rebooted the Marvel universe and the original as we know it went to shit. Beast Wars rebooted the Transformers universe and the original as we know it all but dissapeared. They never fail to bring NO closure to story lines or characters, making for a non-epic so it looses all it's nostalgia and continuity. Even the Greek mythos and their heroes came to an end. I wanted to know what happened to my favorite characters man. I wake up knowing I never will. It's all about money.
Haha, this is a big problem in your life, I see. When you wake up knowing you'll never know what happened to your favorite characters, is it in a cold sweat? Do you find a puddle of urine underneath you?
The "creativity and realness of the 80s" is just what you remember from your childhood. I love the original TF show too but frankly I wouldn't if I hadn't watched it as a kid, and you wouldn't either. The dialogue was horribly cheesy, most of the storylines were contrived and goofy, and many of the characters had entirely flat if not downright stupid personalities. The 1986 movie is another story, of course, but the actual series really didn't involve this creativity you seem to think it did.
If you're talking about the actual toy line, I agree, that was pretty top notch for its day but if that's all you mean, you should hate Transformers because those toys were not made as Transformers, they were old molds taken by Takara and turned into a franchise. Your hardcore posturing should be dedicated to Diaclone and Microman.
If you really found Beast Wars so hideous, fine, I understand you not liking it for the same reasons I already don't like this new cartoon. But you are totally wrong about them not having any closure. Beast Wars did an admirable job of wrapping up all its loose ends in the amount of time they were given to do it all last-minute. It's really a shame they weren't given more notice that they had to end the series, but the last couple episodes are really good and they leave nothing unexplained. I wouldn't know about Beast Machines since I quit watching that garbage after a couple episodes, and all the series after that are not meant to exist in the same continuity as the original and Beast Wars do.
Atom Narmor
07-15-2007, 05:23 PM
I knew you'd do that. Misunderstand and exaggerate what i'm sayin. You guys always take my words to heart. I feel I make perfect sense, even if you disagree. The toys and the original show are my favorite in design, story and concept and are the GREATEST to date, flaws included. The Decepticons still flew out of a sunken space ship that rose to the surface to battle the Autobots who rolled out of a ship crashed into a volcano. They raced to get to cybertron and Optimus Prime died.
CLASSIC
So you're saying that Beast Wars was supposed to take place after the movie?!
Anyway, Transformers aren't my life and i'm no fan boy in the least. I don't buy the toys and excuses for profit like some either. I stand by my opinion though and that is "older is better" and "continuity is groovy".

Why would a writer not be into cash and marketability? You become a writer...you kind of want to work and make money, it's only natural. Then consider this cartoon is an in-house Cartoon Network show based on a long running series with a huge built in fan base, backed by a huge toyline, it's going to be mainstream and aimed at a younger audience no matter what. Expecting anything else is silly.

Why would a writer not be into cash and marketability?
There's a difference in how I worded it though. I said "inspired by" cash and marketability. Most of them are young and employed by an increasingly impartial, cut throat conglomeration. To me, they are largely powerless and those telling the stories (complete with talking dogs) are CEO's and marketing execs.
They never end a storyline or character because there's money to be made and an older generation to dissapoint. Optimus didnt stay dead just like Megatron the villain because they cant think of anything new and original anymore. Culture and society is going down the pooper along with story telling and originality. That's why Beast machines sucked, because most cartoons do these days. Over the top they are, cartoons today seem (lol)

Who said I was arguing with you and hate is such a strong word. If my replies have little to do with another's post, it's because their post has little to do with mine. My views are not radical Ktulu, they are informed and well rounded.
Example: Did you acknowledge my mention of cold hearted businessmen who'll do anything for money? These are the ones creating these shows currently. Do you see the sucky animation prevelent today? They crank them out like shit pellets and the toys and their bogus designs are an excuse for profit, which they are DEFINATELY making. All this is obvious and you should agree. Much of the TF shows are marketing ploys, thrown together just in time to get cash from a renewed interest in whatever franchise.
I also mentioned the changing of the Transformers appearances, thereby losing the vision of them all together. As far as the kids getting what they want from the shows, I dislike the notion. This is how a creator looses his vision and a company takes over, trying to satisfy demand for the sake of profit. Even if his characters die in the end of his story, once Warner Bros. buys the property they crap all over the intended expression. A true story told, or a story teller should write to tell the story not just to please those being told. From start to finish, as everything has an end, everything but modern fiction (Transformers).
Also, If i'm arguing I argue with facts. You fan boys are funny.

And I honestly don't see how anyone can say BM wasn't original, especially for Transformers.
You know, the writers behind Beast Machines actually put a lot of thought into what they wrote. It wasn't all mindless marketing and money grubbing.

"Beast Machines was an animated television series produced by Mainframe Entertainment that was a direct sequel to Beast Wars and is the final television series to take place within the continuity of the original Transformers series. The cause of much controversy among the fanbase, the show ran for two seasons, airing on Fox Kids and YTV from 1999 to 2000. Of the Transformers animated series produced in North America, Beast Machines was the only one to have been completely conceptualized and outlined in advance, lending it a more serialized and linear storyline than the others although the quality of the storylines themselves have been heavily debated amongst Transformers fans."

Yes, I've visited Wikipedia before. I've also seen many of the complaints the fanbase has had. They're mostly all shallow and ill-conceived. "Wah wah wah, the characters actually had development! Oh no, the designs are different and original. It's the end of the world!"

I still don't know what Beast Machines has to do with anything, it's been off the air for years, and it's failure helped bring back vehicle based Transformers, THE TROO KIND, TRUKK NOT MUNKY RITE?!?
And so what if fans argued about it? (LET ME CORRECT WHAT I SAID - SO WHAT IF THERE WAS CONTROVERSY)They argue (THERE IS CONTROVERSY) about every fucking thing from every single show, every single toy line, every single toy released, every characterization, every voice actor, you name it. Just because people bitched doesn't mean it's bad or worse than any other series, people bitch about every version of The Transformers.
Elok Quintly
07-15-2007, 10:39 PM
Have you actually watched Beast Machines? Do you even know the primary themes of the show? It dealt with balance, extremism, and the importance of individuality as opposed to perfect order without free will. Not to mention there was a fine line between who was right and who was wrong on many occasions.
All the heroes were flawed in one way or another, especially Optimus Primal, which further embodied the concept of imperfection versus the "perfection" and machine-like precision that Megatron sought after. The show also introduced theological themes to the Transformers universe, giving the Cybertronians a quasi-religious background that was at that point pretty nonexistent in the cartoon continuity.
So yes, I'd say that's pretty original. Overall, the story of Beast Machines had a purpose as opposed the original 80's cartoon series; which regrettably was little more than a 28-minute toy commercial.

Nonsense. It's ok that you justify the flop but slamming the original is groundless and unproductive. Transformers dealt with all the major facets of good Vs. Evil that the 80's would've allowed. Megatron, the ruthless militaristic force used by the Quintisons to police the Autobots in their mining opperations; Optimus Prime who started out young and inexperienced became a battle hardened leader who learned his values from being a powerless slave, unfree; Starscream, the treacherous second in command who is the epitome of jealousy and coniving was a good tool for showing the reason why evil never wins; Bumblebee, who was kindly, humble and generous appealed to human nature; Soundwave, in stark contrast to Starscream was loyalty manifest and should have been second in command and the Dinobots, dumb but heartily accepted by the group to their benefit of course.
Elok Quintly
07-16-2007, 12:48 AM
Mind telling me the story G1 was trying to tell? And don't say good versus evil. And the characters in G1 were based more around archetype than anything; not once does the show get into any deeper philosophical ground surrounding their beliefs. Megatron is bad and doesn't like puny flesh creatures. Optimus is good and heroic and believes all beings deserve freedom. Not much there beneath the surface.
I love G1, but you can't be blinded by nostalgia. Beast Machines was far more complex and story driven. Just because it wasn't as successful doesn't mean anything.

I'm forgeting all about Beast Machines for a second.
it's been off the air for years, and it's failure helped bring back vehicle based Transformers, THE TROO KIND
I guess what the original brought to me and many others is lost on you, Quintly. I dont know how old you are or anything but my guess is that you've only seen Clinton and Bush Jr in office. Whatever, you ask and I answer. G1 made what you THINK you love about any of the others possible. You missed the relevancy of the series to our generation. We grew up without war-time influenced attitudes and GI Joe and Transformers brought it to us in the best way possible in the 80's. Even though there were no deaths, despite all the blue and red lazors flashing across the screen and the cars and buildings that exploded only after the bystanderds got clear, it helped children deal with those concepts, especialy with the qualities of the characters I just mentioned. The Autobots were former slaves, which I identified with very much. The decepticons only following their programming to it's ultimate end, to stalk and terminate rouge worker bots and perfect their killing power to the fullest.
I came to understand and learn that knowing was half the battle and that drugs were bad. You keep talking about the show being an excuse for merchandise, do you know who created Transformers and why? You also complain about the subject matter and relevance of the stories. Did you know that the Movie basicaly flopped at theaters because it was an animation that dealt with subject matter in an adult like manner? Your average Transformers fan would've been too young to understand a lot of the themes and dialogue in the film, not to mention distressed that most of their favourite characters bought the farm early on in the movie.

It flopped because it was opened in a very limited number of theaters, was poorly reviewed as a 90 minute commercial across the board, and was released at a time when even Disney couldn't release a successful animated feature
Hahhaaha. Ok, fine. But the comic was well done also and 1st. Still, the characte designs are so exceptional you know thought went into it. More than what Michael Bay is capable of.
The character designs were good in G1, yes, but very simple, and based off of toys that had already been made. Later TF designs have been much sleeker and more complex, and the toys have certainly been better than the original ones in terms of sculpting, complexity, articulation, detail, and durability.
And what does the designs being good prove exactly? Thought, care? You really think the designs of later Transformers were done without thought? Even if they were - it has nothing to do with the quality of the shows.

To each is own I guess. We can argue till' the world blows up but I dont want to waste my last few weeks or months doing so. Design is asthetics and without that you got nothin' I tell ya, NOTHIN'. Even though the toys weren't as advanced as they are now they didnt have neon orange/pink guns and see through lime-green chest plates. I don't hate the new toys but their not the Transformers I know and love. It was cool to know I could buy a Megatron that could actualy transform into a gun or a Prime that could roll across my hard wood floor, no prob.
G1 had metalic stickers and metal parts man! Dark colors and size were a plus. I wouldn't trade um' and you can't make me. Damnit, i'm bying the entire series next check AND some of the original toys. WHAT

G1 has plenty of bright ass colors, neon orange and pink included, and as for size, yeah, there were some big toys, but every TF line to this date has had big figures. Metallic stickers - they tend to peel off or tear, whereas the more current toys have actual sculpted detail and paint (that entails more work than just slapping a picture of circuits onto a flat surface) Metal parts - great but the paint comes off of them easily and makes the toys a lot more expensive to produce, meaning much more expensive to buy

You can still love G1 and like the newer stuff too - I do it, as do many others
Yes, G1 Prime is a beautiful toy and has tons of nostalgic value, but Cybertron Prime, MP Prime, and Classics Prime just to name a few are all better toys in various ways. For it's time it was an amazing toy, but toy design has simply gotten better since then, and we've gotten some really great stuff accordingly. New does not mean worse.
For example -
Take the original Darth Vader from 1977:
then compare it to the 1995 POFT2 version:
The newer one has a more detailed and dynamic sculpt, a better likeness, nice paint applications, and his weapon is removable. Overall it just looks much more appropriate than the older one.
Then, compare that one to the 2007 version:
Sculpting has gotten even better, the likeness is even more accurate, and articulation has improved much further.
Just as the newer Primes surrounding the older one here have more intricate sculpting, better engineering to provide more articulation (and thus more playability) and fuller robot modes without large gaps, more durable plastic that can take a lot of damage, no important body parts that can easily be lost as they're all part of the transformation, and more complicated paint schemes. Is the original a good toy? Yes. Does it look great? Yes. Is it the best made, best looking Prime toy ever? Not really.
Toy companies have grown a lot over the years, they really have put more effort into their products over time and people that are into this shit have gotten some great stuff from that. Again, newer does not mean worse, and old and nostalgic does not mean better.
tbh I think old Prime looks like a chunk of poop compared to classics Prime.

I think all the Autobot figures are worth owning. Ironhide is my personal favorite. He's a bitch to transform to and from the first few times, but once you get him down he kicks ass. Decepticons, I'd go with Starscream and Barricade.

You have to prioritize. You need to ask yourself what's more important - Pokemon training or Transforming. *nods*

I am afraid that I will have to stick with Pokemon training. I am just not the Tranformer I used to be. Believe me, I was a great one, one who could fly high in the sky and battle against the evil Megatron. But now, my skills like to the Pokemon. As much as I would like to transform as I once could, I realize that my transforming days are in the past, and my Pokemon adventure are the now and future.
Even still, I hope you can transform like the wind. I hope.

Hey, I used to transform like nothing. As a kid I was the master at hide and go seek. But by night I was fighting Megatron, then Galvatron. Then that all stopped. Next thing you know I'm traveling around the world on foot fighting Kefka, Sephiroth, Edea, Necron, Sin, etc. All I knew was how to use a sword, ride a chocobo and summon monsters. But in the last few months I'm back to transforming. I don't even drive my car to work anymore, I just transform and roll out.

Check out Jin Saotome's new TF Movie customs, nice paint upgrades and such. He's a fairly "famous" kitbasher, Toyfare magazine even hires him to do stuff for them from time to time. He makes a pretty nice living off this stuff too, sells his work on eBay and does commissioned pieces for people on message boards, etc.
Anyway, most of the TFs are mainly paint upgrades, but there is a bit more to it than that as you'll see, and when it is just painting, it does make the figures look a shit load better

The Heroes of Cybertron line, all hailing from Japanese PVCs, had build a figure Fortress Maximus and Metroplex, bigger than the regular ones

Just saw the movie and thought it was pretty fun. I'll go back on my initial complaints and eat my words-the Transformers character designs were fantastic!. Sure some of them looked too different from their 80's cartoon counter parts but it didn't bother me that much. It was quite fun even if it did slow down about halfway through. I mean, I went in there not exactly expecting Schindler's list part 2. What I got was what I expected, huge robots, cheesy acting and explosions.
Starscream was pretty lame though :(

I think we can safely say Soundwave, Grimlock and Devistator will be in the sequel. As a fellow Hodrod fan, I would LOVE to see him in the movie, but I think they should save him for part 3 to make a great climax. Shockwave should be in the next 2 films but just like in the cartoon as a cameo. I think we all can agree Ultra Magnus is a dick. So let's hold him out as long as possible with as little air time as possible. And I never cared for Jetfire, but that's just me. So that leaves us with the Insecticons, Ravage and Mirage. For me it's a tie with Ravage and Mirage since I can care less about the Insecticons. I will now flip a coin and Mirage called heads since Ravage doesn't speak...
It's heads. We need Mirage in the next movie.
And for what it's worth, the coin I used was a North Dakota quarter.

This is where I fully explain myself, if I haven't already. There are two TFs above Jazz in my heart, which probably isn't readily apparent given my statements in this thread. He's certainly my favorite of those chosen for the movie treatment, so it isn't all that surprising. Everyone raves about Soundwave, but Blaster was always my favorite of the two. Still have him on the shelf above my desk. Sitting next to him is Hot Rod and Rodimus.

I liked them both, but a Walkman is more practical than a Boom Box.
Do you mean in terms of being in one of the movies? If you do, we already had Frenzy, so yeah I don't expect to ever see Blaster make the scene.
If you mean in terms of pure toy/character model, it was the 80s both made perfect sense, I think.
Also, if I totally missed your point, it may be because I can't see that pic you posted.

It's the lil'formers strip with Blaster and Soundwave arguing about who make the best mixtapes.
I was refering to your comment about how everyone raves about Soundwave rather than Blaster. When I was a kid, I always liked Soundwave cause you could take him around as a walkman, rather than lug him around like a boom box.
Anyways:
You never know, maybe Blaster will come out as an answer to Frenzy!
Oh yeah, I've read that one. See, what it is, is that I used to carry lunchboxes around ALOT as a kid (perhaps why that scene in the Wizard tears me up so bad?) and Blaster was a brilliant substitute. Sure, I didn't get to carry a bunch of stuff in that tradeoff, but hey it was Blaster, who needs a pail full of crap when you've got Blaster? :p

This brings up something I've been wondering about; Why did they chose the name Blaster over the Japanese Broadcast? I know this is nick picking here but for some reason the name Broadcast sounds better suited to a Stereo cassette player than Blaster.

How big was everyone's G1 Transformers collection?
Mine is pretty small, I didn't have many as a kid because I was a little too young and they were more expensive than some of the toys I did have, like GI Joe figures. I had an original G1 Prime that was a hand-me-down from a cousin without the trailer or weapons, the Technobots Scattorshot and Lightspeed, the Pretender Cloudburst, Powermaster Prime, a Micromaster set and like...that was it. I was watching the show since I was born pretty much and I love TFs, I just didn't get to have a lot of the toys.
I've since added a decent amount of reissues to the collection, but it's not as cool as having the actual original ones. I also bought Runabout and Runamuch off of eBay a few years ago because they were hilariously cheap. The old PM Prime I had was stolen or something along with a lot of other toys, and I later bought one at a comic store for 45 bucks. Dumb move since it wasn't even fully complete and the much better Japanese reissue came out like a year or two later for...5 bucks more.

Well UM's cab was white (and Hasbro tends to just go the white route when doing a Prime as UM repaint) and the trailer more red than blue. I'm not saying it couldn't be UM but that odd turqouise/silver combination doesn't really remind me of him.
Out of insane boredom I went to see the movie again today. Finally heard Bonecrusher yelling "I hate you!" to Prime, haha. Also, I think I heard Bumblebee say "I'll get you" in a very strained voice when catching Sam and Mikaela from their fall under the bridge, but perhaps I'm crazy
Maybe we are just too eager to see UM and bash him. Am I crazy in thinking that the movie almost drives children to hate Ultra Magnus in favor of Rodimus? On the other hand, for the longest time I hated Kup, but now I love him almost as much as Roddy himself. I too like Magnus. Even though he apparently wasn't "worthy" of the Matrix he still pretty much had to babysit Rodimus until Prime came back. Pretty goofy writing, how the big "chosen one" wasn't really all that, it kind of doesn't make sense. I know they just went the "inexperience" route with it but then that kind of undermines the whole "matrix has the knowledge of all past leaders" thing too, and just the fact that if he wasn't really worthy of being a leader, then him being able to unlock the matrix didn't make much sense either.
Goodness, better stop thinking now before I start listing all of the other million things fanboys have argued about for 20 years.

Back on topic: I like Rodimus because he was unsure of himself as leader. I actually fell into quite a lovely situation like that in my own life. In retrospect (and looking at those who succeeded me), I think I did a very decent job, but at the time I did nothing but bemoan my performance. In essence, I've never fully liked Optimus, fell in love with Hot Rod, had a joygasm about an hour after meeting him when he became Rodimus, and ended up identifying with him even more later in my "adult" life.
That's the long and short of it.

Certainly kick his other work in the ass, I guess mainly because there's a pretty decent idea behind it, and thankfully Hasbro and the writers convinced him to make it as close to the franchise as he did, before they butted in and said a few things had to be certain ways, it was gonna be a fucking generic alien invasion movie.

Just fan created versions of a Dinobot combiner, you can see in the two pictures that there's two different versions. Anyway, there's been a few kitbashes of that. Here's one:
http://www.tfmaster.com/gallery_kb0067.php
The arrangement is different than the above art but you can see some of the same ideas used, particularly the first picture
Sweet. I did always feel bad for the Dinobots not having a gestalt form.
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
07-24-2007, 10:33 AM
It's also why Energon Swoop and Grimlock combine, just trying to cater to the fan desire to see a Dinobot combiner
I never really thought about it, I think it's fine that they're just a team of 5 guys and that's it, no fancy "we make a bigger robot" stuff. They're pretty big as it is anyway really, larger than most Autobots, Optimus included.
I'm a Voltron guy, it's in my nature to want a gestalt. Always :D

Hay people plz to halp me out really quick here
In the Headmasters dub I've been working on, I've now taken over the role of Soundwave/Soundblaster, and I've been trying to get the vocoder effect right
Now, before the effect we all know Welker was just doing his Dr. Claw voice and I've got that down just fine, but getting the vocoding to sound 'right' isn't so easy. Most other attempts I've heard make him sound way too high pitched (like this
http://youtube.com/watch?v=9TYzRanykbQ) and it sounds silly. I'm trying to get as close to the Welker version as possible
Anyway after screwing around with the vocoder in the music sequencing program I use I came up with this sound, doing a line from the old movie:
http://media.putfile.com/soundwave-sample
So what do you guys think, AM I DOING IT RITE? I don't think it's dead right yet but I think it's getting there.

Don't worry about that
Talk about Decepticons
Lord Brimstone
07-27-2007, 09:29 PM
OK, Decepticons. I always thought the Decepticons were cool. My favorite Decepticons in no particular order are Soundwave, the Constructicons, Megatron, Galvatron, and Blitzwing. For some reason in Armada I ended up liking Starscream over a lot of the other characters in the show, which is strange because I didn't particularly care for him in G1.
Something that has recently tickled me was the hypocrisies in each sides' dogma. Ok, on the autobot's side you have Optimus talking about working with other races to help them, and also to protect them from the forces of evil. Yet, Optimus's form is that of a big rig with a Trailer that has some serious firepower inside plus some other little helper bots. That made Optimus rather self-sufficient. OK, nothing really bad until you look at the other side of the coin. The Decepticons believe in power and subjugation over all. The decepticons, though driven to work together by their overlord, Megatron, squabble amongst each other to establish a pecking order, and some even seek to gain enough power to overthrow Megatron. However, Megatron turns into a freaking handgun that another Decepticon will use to defeat their enemies with, thus putting Megatron in an almost subservient role. It's only after Megatron turns into Galvatron do we see the example of overwhelming personal power portrayed by the Decepticon Leader.
Yeah, I know what I said is probably total BS, but it's funny to look at all that from a analytical perspective.
Edit: Btw, is that Black Arachnia amongst those decepticon shadows?

That's awesome, Ktulu. :D
It sounds pretty darn similar if not perfect imo. Although, having it at more of a high pitched tone might help.
I should have let you know that I did try, Ktulu. The file wasn't working for me either, though
I think he means the decepticons in the new series, LB. The one on the far right looks like the Lilformers version of movie Megs :D

So I've taken the time to listen to it over and over. I think the voice sounds really great, however I think you need to not inhale in between each word so much. Try to work on saying more on one breath, but not too much as to where you have to take one long breath to finish the last 1 or 2 words.
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
07-28-2007, 02:08 AM

So what do you guys think, AM I DOING IT RITE? I don't think it's dead right yet but I think it's getting there.
It sounds pretty close. I think the main difference is that Soundwave is a teeny bit less deep. If it was like a fraction higher pitched I'd say it was nearly spot-on. Even as it stands though I think it would work fine for a fan dub, I mean how close can you get actually get to sounding like Frank Welker.

I always thought megatron was dumb. Why turn into a weapon? If you already have a gun on your arm?

Well, at least Tom didn't use Jazz. That would have been the final injustice :p
I always thought megatron was dumb. Why turn into a weapon? If you already have a gun on your arm?
I've always preferred Megs as a gun, to the point that I think Classics Megs is beautiful and I would purchase it if I ever saw it in person. I dunno, I just really hate Tanks in general. For any character, even. I really like that Hearts of Steel one LB posted, though [ftr, I know that isn't a tank, my point is that it is a non-handgun].

OK scenario
"oh no everybody transform the autobots are coming", various tanks and jets, a huge robot formed by normal sized robots, Megatron just clinks and lands on the floor.
Someone was usually (I want to say always, but I can't be sure of that) around to use him, usually Starscream or Soundwave.

Thanks. When no one really answered here I just put it on the private area of TFW2005 and got so many conflicting responses, too high, too low, effect is wrong, too much of the original voice still in, not melodic enough (which I say is bullshit, Soundwave is fucking monotone) and blah and blah and I just said screw this I'll just see what the guy in charge of the dub thinks.
He didn't like it.
I'm just doing the voice and letting someone else do the effect. If it turns out with that high pitched singing sounding shit I'm going to be pissed.
Smarties you sound like a guy I met in high school, he hated Beast Wars just because Megatron was purple initially. THERE AINT NO PURPLE DINOSAURS MAN. THAT'S BARNEY. BEAST WARS SUCKS.
It must be so awesome folding your arms, finding reasons to hate the big bad children's cartoon.
Think of it this way - Megatron initially got his gun mode as a form of disguise. Then, whenever he doesn't feel like just rushing into battle, he transforms into the gun for another Decepticon to use, making it harder for him to actually take any damage, and making it easier for said Decepticon to give more out because holding a really powerful fucking gun. He doesn't always transform into the gun, and often does just fight with the cannon on his arm.

I love transformers, if I didn't I wouldn't bother looking at this thread, I always found it weird that everyone turned into some warcraft machinery and he would just sit back and turn int a gun for others to use, when he could have easily used himself.
The new IDW comics do a pretty great job of giving a believable reason for Megatron's mass-shifting gun mode.
Atom Narmor
07-29-2007, 07:51 PM
I have to say my favorite mass-shifting faux-pas is Astrotrain being big enough for the Constructicons to form Devastator in, when not 2 minutes before they were almost ducking to get in individually :p
