It's not about being PC, it's about not breaking laws. They legally can't release a Walther-P38 toy without painting it completely orange and blue. Rather than force such a thing onto fans, they came up with the best possible gun mode they could while still keeping it from being unrealistic.
That's what I mean about being PC. Ever since that stupid law passed, toy weapons look fugly. I understand the whole "not to be mistaken for a real gun", but... I guess It's just me
i was watching the original transformers this morning and that american music they had playing for prime was like 90's retro

This is crazy. Hasbro actually being new and current with their website is fucking UNHEARD OF.
I reaaaaaally like the Prowl toy.
Oh my. Expect the TF86 remake petitions to start. If they haven't, already :p
Oh wow. Yeah, Prowl kicks ass and I have to say I think they all look pretty damn impressive. I'm really stoked. It's been ages since there have been Transformers I've actually wanted to buy.

The funny thing is people that were getting pictures of the toys in the club magazine were ripping the toys apart. This sucks, that sucks, then the official Hasbro prototype photos come up today and everyone is praising them. Tons of "wtf why did you all hate these" posts at TFW, luls, and I feel the same way. I guess personally they look even better given that I was almost starting to believe they were just utter shit.
I'm so down with these

The jet wings are a little small, but the two modes are pretty far apart so it's a relatively convincing triple changer. Bot mode looks great either way, which is the most important part for me.
Prowl and Sunstreaker are my favorites however - with Powerglide probably my least favorite, though I'm fairly sure I'll get all of them
I pretty much agree with your order Ktulu. I'm almost positive I'll get all of these though. Powerglide is my least favorite but I still think he looks great.

Yeah, it started off alright, but then went screwy along the way.
I finally saw an episode of the New Transformers cartoon.
I have to say that it's okay.
Things I hate about it:
- Optimus is an inexperienced leader (I'm tired of this cliche).
- It's set in a near-future earth, in (of all places) "New" Detroit - I keep expecting Robocop to show up.
- I also kinda don't like the fact that they have to depend on a little girl as a guide.
Things I like about it:
- Megatron is slowly trying to create a new body, which means he can't really lead.
- I like the fact that Starscream backstabbed Megatron from the beginning.
- I like the reason as to why the Autobots must depend on the little girl.
I wish I was able to upload long videos like him :(
Does becoming a "director" require a certain number of videos, rankings, amount of discussion? Or does it require TEH MONEY?
I've always wondered. I could probably click around and find out, but I've never even dreamed of becoming one. You on the other hand would definitely benefit from it, as noted.
If it is based on monetary "donations," that would indeed be WHACK :(
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
02-03-2008, 07:58 PM
Inexperienced leader is not really too cliche for Transformers though, Optimus is usually already a seasoned bad ass when we first meet him in various continuities and all, but hey
Kneg - switching your type to Director is free. However, if you did that AFTER they set the 10 minute limit, it has no effect. Only people that were already "Directors" can upload over 10 minutes :(
It really makes no sense. As long as the file size limit is in place, who the fuck cares how long it is?
It's obviously to prevent people from uploading whole episodes of shows in one go - but it's not like people don't then just segment them into parts you know
I believe when you become a "partner" now you can upload longer videos. I'm nowhere near deserving of that though, you have to have a shit ton of subscribers and thousands of views per video.

I doubt it, the convention exclusives are planned by different people and way ahead of time, that's why last year's were the remaining Classics seekers. I can't think of a better Galvatron since the original G1. I'll give it 1 thumb up.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy
02-17-2008, 11:21 AM
I really hate Galvatron. Weird triangular torso which is horribly offset by the huge back kibble behind it, the cannon arm is a big blocky mess, the legs are the same, there's random neon pink/orange joints, the feet are just two little blocks jutting out unnaturally, cannon is way over sized, chest looks plain, and I think the face is really ugly
Oh well :(
If I DO buy it, it gets new paint:
Some of the sculpted details are there to make it look more like the G1 design but they're painted wrong - and plainly since it's mostly grey.
I imagine most of the suckyness to me comes from that they had to make it a tank for "realism" and so it ended up really odd and blocky - and the retarded size restriction only made it worse. Why are Onslaught and Powerglide Ultras and Galvatron a Deluxe? What? The "realism" thing in itself is kind of BS - because in this "realistic only" line we're getting a futuristic screaming red stealth bomber?
Oh well, at least these make me happy:

Yeah really really not liking that Galvatron. Doesn't have the feel that I was expecting.
TF Animated just combines too much stuff from cartoons of today, and almost spot-on nostalgia for me to do anything but love it. If you're only looking for G1 in it, of course you're going to be disappointed. If you can appreciate Starscream's Latta-esque joygasm of a voice/badass-ery AND Bumblebee, Bulkhead, and Sari yukking it up like the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy or Ed, Edd, and Eddy, then you're in for a treat.
I CAN appreciate both, and I can't wait til more eps get on YouTube (you know my schedule is funky :()

02-17-2008, 09:33 PM
Most people love the Galvatron so far and are just complaining that it's too small, only like 1-2 other people have agreed that it looks shit. I don't care if it's not a popular opinion though, it really let me down. At least the Animated figures look like what they were promised to. Galvatron here isn't a 90 percent accurate G1 bot, and the giant ray gun on the tank negates it from being a realistic vehicle (so why make it a tank in the first place)...eh, I just totally expected more from it, especially after liking all the other Universe stuff so much
Like I said though, with better/more exciting/character accurate paint I'd like it a lot more. I'll buy one to paint like I changed it above. Then it'll still have blocky fucking legs, weird asymmetrical arms and be a boring tank that's the same size as a sports car - but hey, it'll at least look ok enough for me to not smash it with a hammer

I've been trying to give the TF : Animated show an honest try and watched a month and change worth of episodes. I'm still not impressed. I mean, they're so stylized that they really don't seem robotic at all.
The show also seems incredibly low-budget. I mean, I don't expect it to look as good as AppleSeed :EM, but it doesn't seem like the animation quality is much better than the show when it came out in the '80s. All they did was make shit look less robotic.
Yeah, I'm done with this show. The TF designs are kinda cool, but I can't deal with the show at all.
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
03-15-2008, 04:06 PM
Sounds like you're judging it purely aesthetically - any thoughts on the actual stories or characters maybe?
The animation quality is very consistent, and is usually pretty crisp - things which can't be said of the G1 cartoon. The action is also well directed, pretty dynamic, another rarity in G1 aside from the movie.
If nothing else, you have to appreciate the insane fan service they put in every single episode. There's awesome fan nods in every single one that serve basically no purpose than a simple tip of the hat to long term fans - and as a show aimed at kids in 2008 who know jack shit about TFs aside from the recent live film that's an amazing quality to have I think.
legionnaireone
03-16-2008, 12:53 AM
I would comment on the stories, but they're not really that memorable. I mean, this morning's was alright and out of the norm, and the last one I saw also really didn't feature the standard AvD conflict. That's nice, but I still have trouble delving into this.
As to the characters, Prime seems to be a younger, or at least, less experienced Prime than we're used to seeing. So it's alot more learning curve on his part than anything else. That's good for development. I mean, the TFs themselves are fine or good, at least. As always, the human characters aren't as much of an attraction.
Again, my real gripe with this show is the presentation, and it's keeping me out of the show. It seems like the decision to render everything in this style wasn't really about aesthetics so much as it was to look like everyone other US current cartoon. Congrats to the people who pioneered this kind of "heavy upper body, square jaw" style with Batman: TAS, but I don't think it was the right direction to go with Transformers.
I thought on it and I'll try a little more of this. I'll just have to get past the not-so-awesome character design.
Beast Wars had that quality as well, but it combined it with a fantastic art direction and really serious and tight story telling. As far as I can tell this show is ugly robots in standard kids show storylines with nostalgia nods. The nods are nice but they can't save the show all by themselves imo.

Beast Wars had that quality as well, but it combined it with a fantastic art direction and really serious and tight story telling. As far as I can tell this show is ugly robots in standard kids show storylines with nostalgia nods. The nods are nice but they can't save the show all by themselves imo.

There's a few short voyagers, but it's not becoming any ongoing trend. While voyager Bulkhead for Animated is indeed rather short, the voyager Prime is quite large. It all depends on how the transformation is engineered really. Deluxe Lockdown in Animated is even taller than voyager Prime for instance.

I am going to take this chance to review TF: Animated now that ive watched all of Season 1:
Frankly, the show is pure win. The fact that the characters have expressions other then dull surprise (
http://transformers.wikia.com/wiki/Dull_surprise) helped me get over those silly chins pretty quickly and most of the characters look pretty excellent.
The story is coherent and the Decepticons are potrayed a hell of a lot better in this show then any other. Rather then getting beat EVERY episode and looking like bumbling oafs, they are shown as more of a background, but serious threat. When they show up, its a big, BIG deal and to even defeat one requires a super human effort from the Autobots.
The dialouge is way better then any previous TF show(typically involved repetitive lines and telling the audience stuff we already know) and actually has some emotion into it, Kaye does really well as Prime lols. And stock transformation sequences, rather then taking up 90% of the show, are kept to a minimum.
Other plus points:
- Megs. Dear God, he's a Goliath and a master mainpulator. Yesssssss
-Teasing Bumblbee's death. I lol'ed.
-'Oh for Sparks sake.'
-'YOU INTERUPTED MY SPEECH!'
-Prowl succesfully combining the personalities of William Wordsworth and Emily Dickinson. And some Beachcomber in there too.
I'm surprised you haven't been postin' all the new stuff, Ktulu!
All the classics 2.0 figures are looking fantastic. I am so excited for this. Except for the one problem of me having to buy them, which means a lot of money. >_>
New ones announced too, like a deluxe Iron Hide, and a Hound/Ravage set which apparently means there is going to be a soundwave because Ravage is supposed to fit inside him?!! Also a deluxe Cyclonus and, this is the weirdest part, apparently a new deluxe Cheetor?! With a new mold and everything. I haven't been able to find pictures of these yet though. =(
New Robot Heroes look great too! I'm really stoked.

I just found the premium series Optimus Prime, Megatron and Jazz. I ended up passing on Blackout (because I can't tell what's so premium about him) and Ironhide (Everything looks great, glossy truck body, but the hood looks fucked up). Anybody want to buy or trade for my original movie Prime and Megs? I'm not asking for much (practically giving them away), just thought I'd share them out to another Transformer fan from the ffshrine family.
edit: Jazz review. This figure is noticably better then the original, and I don't just mean the paint job. The little details really stand out and this time I really like this figure. Jazz feels really well put together and stronger.
Optimus. The added details are very little - Lets make some of the grey more silvery. They switched the gun out for the sword which is a lot better. The head looks a lot more like the actual head, but still kinda off. They also added 2 holes at the top of the roof just to fit the head because of the "batman"ears.
Megatron. His collors are just more like the movie, just not metalic. Still way better then the original.

i finally saw the movie lol it was great seeing optimus again
Got Prowl, Sunstreaker, and Tankor today. Took them long enough to come out over here!
Streaker is AMAZING. Really, this is as good as it gets. He is articulated flawlessly, looks badass in both modes, and basically has absolutely nothing wrong with him. Why can't there be a Rodimus figure this well made?
Prowl is good but not great. Too much empty space in his backside, and I wish his head didn't stick out quite so much. Still really great articulation and he looks great as long as he's not at the wrong angle.
Tankor is okay. the difficulty of designing triple changers is really evident here. They did a great job of it, but he still suffers a bit. His truck mode kinda sucks and there is no way to transform it so it isn't awkward because everything doesn't QUITE fit as well as it should. His plane mode is much better, and robot mode is okay but I don't like his big awkward blade weapon.
Overall I'm quite pleased and I can't wait until the next ones come out!
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
07-18-2008, 03:53 PM
I agree with you pretty much full on. Streaker is a triumph of a toy and a must have all the way. Only flaw is that he ends up pretty big. Not a bad thing on its own, but next to the old Classics he sticks out more than someone like Sunstreaker should. Prowl while a more than worthy purchase could've definitely used a bit of fine tuning in terms of the proportions of the shoulders/neck/back arrangement but it's nothing too awful. Big plus is that he looks really good with the old Classics. Tankor/Octane is the worst of the bunch but ultimately still works, and if you look at the G1 toy they really did a pretty fair update. Doesn't look too bad next to Astrotrain. Let's hope for a Blitzwing in the future to complete the trio.
All are welcome additions to my collection, and I'll definitely be in line to buy the Sideswipe/Silverstreak repaints of Sunstreaker and Prowl.
I hope I find the ultras soon, Onslaught especially.

I don't know about that flap on the front, but I'll buy it. I have a few versions of G1 Prime already......but I'll still buy the fucking thing. Hasbro has me by the balls.
The bio is pretty neat

So it has been said by the writers there will be no Dinobots in TF:RotF. But the quote from them is just too funny not to post.
We couldnt quite figure out how to justify a robot that would pretend to be a dinosaur.
lol. Classic.
and that is why these movies suck. Anyone who can't justify a robot that turns into a dinosaur has no business being involved with Transformers in any way.

Doesn't mean they won't use the characters though, Grimlock's already had vehicle alt modes in various ways before, so no "dinobots" might only mean "nothing turns into a dinosaur" eh? I mean in the first one there were no cassettes but you still had Frenzy.
But hey if it really means they're out all together, it's a good thing in that at a small sect of very classic characters are "hands off" to being Bayformer-ized, they'd probably be mishandled

Off the top of my head I've already come up with 3 scenario's of a robot wanting to be a dinosaur. One of them is kinda funny.

If they don't lead to a bunch of slow motion explosions and American flags then obviously they wouldn't work for Bay
Found Animated wave 3 deluxe:
Of the four Soundwave is the one that makes me feel "god damn it I shouldn't have bought this", his squat proportions kinda put him on the suck end of the spectrum. Disappointing since I'm so fond of the G1 character. Ah well though, the other 3 I'm pretty happy with. Snarl/Slag reminds me of Giant Robo.

Ratchet poor? What the hell :o Clearly better than Bumblebee and Bulkhead imo :( Plus, Prowl, Ratchet, and voyager Prime look absolutely perfect together.

About as big as a deluxe ambulance can be really, and at least he's big as he should be in robot mode! Can't say that for voyager Bulkhead :( Or the leader one either really
This is why you need instructions. LOLOLOL

More of my terrible photography (iffy camera w/ no manual focus and terrible lighting conditions)
Found myself some Onslaught and Powerglide today:
This guy totally impressed me even more than I thought he would. My favorite TF toy since the first batch of Classics, for sure. He's not perfect, there's some limitations to how he can hold the shield, and he doesn't stand naturally in every pose, but it almost doesn't matter given how bad ass he is in every other regard. Looks amazing.
Feet fold up more btw but I prefer him as photographed
Powerglide of course didn't wow me the same way, but he's still pretty cool. If you can get over the proportions of the chest and the fact that he isn't pure red it's a solid purchase. Vehicle mode is a big winner, lots of great detail and looks quite sleek.
Not sure if I'm getting Powerglide, I'll probably wait to see if I can find him on clearance later. Onslaught is a so purchase as soon as available.
And of the new Universe figures I am most stoked for Hound. Cyclonus looks badass too from what I can see. Inferno looks pretty iffy, I'll have to see him from more angles.
Cheetor looks kinda blah. I'm not sure why that was really necessary. I guess I'd have to see it in more detail but I think the original looks better from what I can tell.

Apparently there is a mistransformation on the Cheetor's robot mode, something with the torso. I like that the animal mode is obviously more cheetah like but the robot's definitely goofy - in that photo.
I think Inferno looks like a good update, but he's missing the weird white wing things he had on the top of his shoulders. If it means they release a remolded Grapple too I'll be happy
As for PGlide on clearance, Target is really the best place for that, around here anyway. I find pretty sweet stuff on sale there all the time. I'm liking the toy, but still not nearly as much as Onslaught. A few more splashes of color and some bigger hands to offset the giant fucking torso and head would've gone a long way for him I think.
The all red Henkei version doesn't really look too hot for me though, I'm sort of happier that I just bought the Hasbro one.
I think it's the size, so much vibrant red is an eye sore. If he was a deluxe (probably should have been given the character) it'd probably fit more. Or maybe the balance of red/white is just weird.
I actually like that paint job a lot more.
