There's a lot of speculation that if Animated does go under, it might just lead way to a full on focus towards the movie franchise. I don't really like that idea, I'd prefer them to at least have a traditional "main line" - cartoon and toys still keeping a relatively traditional feel (otherwise why call it Transformers at all), and keep the movie as it's seperate thing, but eh, I suppose it's best not to get too nutty over something not confirmed yet.

I realize Animated isn't for everyone (what is?) but I know the TF team at Hasbro and the guys working on the cartoon are really passionate about it, and it really is a giant fan-wank aside from the different art style. It'd be a shame for that to die because of big corporate decisions, but I guess the reality is that such things happen all the time.

That'd only make me hate the movie more. Sure the movie got me back into TF after what, a decade and a half? Besides the few figures I have from it, I really couldn't care less about the movie itself or that particular branch of TF.

Feel like it was simply drawing my attention back this way in preparation for Animated. Animated just seems to marry two different things I'm all about in an amazingly seamless way. Goofy cartoon antics and lovefests married with high drama involving giant transforming robots.

Oh well. I'll be buying the DVDs now, since that's cheaper than a new harddrive to dl them.

If things become all movie I'll save a lot of money so I guess it'd have its upside.

There's this GI Joe cartoon coming out called GI Joe Resolute which is pretty much a short series that caters completely to older fans of the 80s series with a more adult oriented feel. It's possible that if it goes well, they could do something similar for TFs.

I suppose if nothing else, the comics might continue with the more traditional characters and general feel at least. I also hope they'd at least consider a 3rd go at the Classics/Universe toys at some point.

I think Animated figures are too stylized to look good with the Universe/Classics toys. Even though the design style is still pretty different, the sculpt and detail of the movie stuff fits a little better.

Point being, that thing is MASSIVE, so not too surprising. I have a friend who works for a company that makes LeBehr trucks (like Longhaul, Hightower, w/e). They put out promotional photos of people standing next to them. Just o_O

There was a bit of a rant about the trailer having the same problems as the first movie (too many explosions and sparks hiding the bots, action way to quick to see on a first pass) in my comment up there, but right now the thought of seeing Devastator combine is making this for me.

I feel the same about the quick shots and all that but I'm hoping it's just the result of them trying to keep the teaser brief more so than the actual footage being that way

Yeah pretty much. If Bayformers are akin to anything, it's Beast Machines and (especially) the rejected Transtech line

I think some of the Transtech designs were damn cool though. The stuff on the Beast Machines show wasn't that bad either, the toys just failed in capturing it most of the time.

The stuff on the Beast Machines show was heinous. Like, uglier than Animated, and almost as ugly as the movie. If anything the toys suffered from doing a good job of capturing its aesthetic... or it could be the other way around. I don't know, to me, Beast Machines failed in so many more ways than anything else that has ever happened in Transformers. It's a mystery to me how anyone who appreciates Beast Wars in any capacity could not loathe it.

An example of what I meant about the show being generally cooler looking than the toys though, I think Silverbolt is the clearest case. I have no idea what the fuck is up with that toy. It's all gimpy and...bright orange? The show design's transformation seems to work pretty unrealistically, but they must've been able to handle it better than they did. They made it too damn small for one thing. Oh well though, that's long past. Some of the Beast Wars Neo repaints and a few of the small vehicons were decent.

Well, the Beast Machines story may have been alright on its own, but as a followup to Beast Wars I thought it was just unbelievably disappointing. I don't think any of them had any clue how to write any of the characters and they just totally screwed everyone over in the personality department. Megatron goes from a scheming evil genius to a crazy idiot. Optimus turns into a spineless yoga freak. Rattrap turns into a scared little girl. Rhinox inexplicably decides to be evil for absolutely no reason. It goes on. The portrayals of the characters I'd gotten attached to on that show made me want to puke.

I hated the mystical hippy "we must return trees to cybertron so the squirrels and bunnies can play!" thing too. It's like, wow. "I don't like this whole, 'everything about Transformers.' Let's see if we can turn it into Super Animal Eco Space Warriors."

You would probably do well with Youtube vlogs Teekay, nerdy as that sounds

I'm about 99% I'm not buying it. Not because $100 bucks isn't fair (4 voyagers, 2 deluxes, something else; as someone on TFW said), but just because it's $100, and I really don't have room for it, if it really is as big as Fort Max.

I'll wait till I see some more to form a full opinion. My first impression isn't the best, but even the first movie bots looked better than most of their wacky promo pictures. The poses were just horrible. Pop n' squat Optimus, jazz hands Megatron, bowling Barricade, etc

I'm not closed to the idea of liking the design more with time, I'm just being pragmatic about purchasing decisions.

I picked up Universe Ironhide and G1 deco Starscream. Starscream is a let down because the cannons seem to be defective - the pegs are too small for the holes. 1 of them is really small and there's NO way of it staying on, it falls right off. Also, the Toys R Us I was at has several Unicrons. I wanted to buy it but I'm getting Masterpiece Megs friday instead, unless I change my mind and get Masterpiece Prime instead.

Goodness, if it's a choice between Prime and Megs from the MP line, you gotta go Prime first and foremost.

The launcher problem with Screamer is mold deterioration. That mold has been used around 8 times now, you know? Apply a few coats of clear nail polish or super glue to either the ports or posts, should help tighten it.

Right, but there's also the issue of the price difference. And if I get Prime, I want the Takara version.

Where are you buying from? I thought MP Convoy was usually a little cheaper than Megatron, unless you're looking into the Convoy that comes with the trailer too

I'm looking for the MP-01, not the Masterpiece Prime that came out here in the states that goes for aout $60-$70. That one has the matted silver pieces and the exhaust pipes are cut in half. I want the kick-ass looking one.

Yeah, the US one actually looks great except for the short stacks, imo. I've been thinking about getting replacements as well. At least the version of the US one I got does. I think there may have been one of them that had "battle damage," I would definitely avoid that. But the one without it is a beauty.

Today my work bonus came through, $512 after taxes, and now it's either Prime or Megs. I suppose I could get both if I get the U.S. masterpiece Prime. $120 seems to be the average price for Megs atm, so I might order from tfsource, unless y'all got another suggestion.

Animated's future looks dimmer and dimmer. Season 3 starts next month though.

So I managed to watch the saturday morning spectical on youtube in 7 parts. I enjoyed it and now I'm in need to watch the rest of the season.

I have a few versions, either orange&yellow armor (ala the pretender shell of the original toy) with green or red translucent parts, or all orange armor (ala the G1 comic art) and green/translucent parts.

Oh, and yeah, I threw a Cybertron Unicron head under the helmet but drew an open mouth on him, as the big grin just looked goofy after adjusting it to fit!

I also changed the gimpy wheel sword to the purple turret from the original toy and gave him a real sword.

Ktulu, how do you manage to change the colors of a picture so smoothly like that?

I select whatever parts I want to change with the polygonal lasso then desaturate and adjust the levels (if needed) to get them as white as I can while still keeping the detail. Then I paint over it in a new a layer. It requires other adjusting a lot of the time, especially to get the new color to have the right balance or re-adding shadows to the base layer, but that's basically it.

I was like OH JEEZ, DECOYS. Lame. Thank goodness they aren't. Prowl and Jazz stuff, Prowl and Lockdown stuff, just win overall.

You'd think I'd be upset about the lack of Sari, but it's been okay. I want her back, but if we keep getting well done plot development from the serious side of the show, I'm not going to complain.

Considering there's quite possibly only 7 more episodes of the whole series, 4 of them being part of two parters, I don't mind Sari being absent after all the focus on her in the season premiere.

Season 3 rundown:

Bay at first said Megatron is not in the movie. That was after we'd already seen the toys. Then he later said...he'd be in the movie, but only in flashbacks, even though the first teaser trailer actually shows glimpses of him with his new mangly hand, and here we see new action of him with his new body.

Bay is out to protect as much about the movie as he can but he's doing a piss poor job of it.

Frank Welker is officially the voice of Soundwave in ROTF now. So, at least there's that.

It'll probably be so processed it won't even matter that it's him under all the effects though...I mean even the G1 voice, as you all remember, had a heavy effect on it. So, it's just for the fans, which is nice given how much of the rest is almost in spite of the fans!

Saw the trailer at the Wolverine movay, it all does look much more...let's say coherent on the big screen. It was more obvious that some of the effects shots weren't actually done though.

Interesting note - people cheered when it came on and they saw Bumblebee. After the end, it was silent. Heh. It was either a "ooh that's cool" silence or a "eww wtf this will suck" silence.

But either way, we know it's gonna make a trillion dollars and all that shit, meaning we'll never see anything resembling traditional Transformers again :(

Considering all the hype is about it being horrible, I liked it. A few cheesy bits, a few bits where the effects looked horrible, but overall entertaining. Most people have griped about the changes to the characters and what not but damn, have any of them seen any of the other X-Men movies? To expect this to be some page for page translation is the epitome of silly.

I'll be honest, I don't remember a super lot of what I read as a kid. I remember a lot of stuff regarding his "creation" and some bits of his history, but almost nothing of the other peops involved, so I'm not going to be pointing out or getting inflamed over every little difference.

Hell, I know a lot of what was changed for the main entries in the series and none of that really bothers me; I love all 3.

Comic book writers are constantly reinventing their back stories or anyway, or even coming up with alternate universes and the like, I don't know why when a movie does it it's so criminal.

I've said it before (and it doesn't explain it for everyone, I'm aware), but I think some people like to complain just to complain.

I'm no big fan of most of the first movie's designs but the new ones are even fucking weirder. This time it seems even more random with a lot more spindly limbs and alien forms, I guess. A lot of it is really abstract.



Just look at how utterly random the leg construction is. It doesn't resemble two legs as much as just two...blobs. I don't think they cared about how they turned out at all.

I'm just surprised how positive the response to the toys is this time. There's a lot more love for Michael Bay these days too.

Just listening to it, I can stand it. I think the rapping is an over-obvious attempt to be trendy and update it, which defeats the point of taking the dated 80s feeling away as it dates it to NOW, but still, the overall sound isn't something that necessarily makes me vomit. The video though, seeing the close ups of Stan's face looking into the camera singing and the smiling guitarist, it's just too much.

What about the slow motion clips of Stan under the blue flames?

You know, I think movie Mixmaster and Scrapper are why there's no toys for the Animated ones. If toys for the Animated versions had been made, they would've been released close to the movie ones, thus making them likely to share shelf space at some point in various stores. You know how Hasbro freaks out if there's more than one kind of vehicle on shelves if it isn't a car or plane. Let's go back to midget Universe Galvatron..."there were already too many larger tanks" they said :rolleyes: Combine that with the matter of their names and I think it's pretty clear why there were "no plans" for the Animated versions.
