*ahem* Transformers is and always was little more than a toy advert. A substantial body of evidence for this can be found in the 60 pages of this very thread. The movie is another cynical attempt by Hollywood to cash in on old, established franchises and this new film has been hyped so much that it seems clear to me the producers will be far too occupied in making sure that as many people watch it as possible -- old fans and current kids -- that they will fail to please either group. *Ahem*
Good well thought out opinions but like every other remake it will be a cash cow and generate many sequels it's about time this remake actually has a solid base story..... I guess.

For the most part this has been a positive thread, with a few members that enjoy Transformers talk about various aspects of the shows/comics/old film/upcoming film/toys etc, show pictures of new stuff coming out and discuss news in general. There's nothing wrong with that. I understand you think you're better than us because we like some silly toy property and all, but that's simply not so and it certainly doesn't warrant your backhanded belittling of us. There's much more to what you've posted than "your opinion on the coming movie", it's drowning in a "haha why do you fags like this shit" sentiment. Take that shit elsewhere.

So, Michael Bell (G1 voice of Prowl, Scrapper, Swoop, Bombshell, Sideswipe, First Aid, etc, Duke from GI Joe, Grandpa from Rugrats, Raziel in Soul Reaver, and lots of other awesome shit) auditioned for Prowl in the next TF cartoon. He didn't get the fucking part. The voice of Prowl...didn't get the voice of Prowl. It's definitely not an age thing, his voice is still awesome judging from other recent work. I bet it was a money thing. It's really too bad.
They even remolded him to give him his VTOL wings. Gah!

And yeah TK, I really love that Thrust. I got one set of Botcon exclusives from maybe 2000 or 2001 maybe 2-3 years later really cheap from BBTS. Now, I know it's not likely with these guys, because these are going to be insanely popular, but it's still a SMALL possibility I can get them later on for a somewhat reasonable price. I'll just have to try my luck.

Oh, oh lol. That bot mode is right up there with the worst Beast Machines toys imo.
At least it turns into a somewhat cool stereo. Still, the bot mode....nothing like the CGI model at all.
Now these guys I like, because they have the true TF spirit, robots in disguise. The robot mode of the controller is pretty lols but they're still pretty neat. The watch has a Frenzy/Rumble feel kind of.

It feels good being able to buy my own transformers now. When I was a kid, we were broke and on food stamps. But my mom was able to get me a few transformers - Hotrod, Blur, Sixshot and Mindwipe. But I would draw the rest, cut them out and play with them like that. lol. I would save my money for that box of 64 crayons with the sharpener just to color them. *sighs* good times.
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
05-02-2007, 07:44 AM
Cool story really, if it isn't weird to say that. Do you have any of those old ones? Mindwipe would be really awesome to have. Anyway, I've grown up relatively poor too, and I was also kind of too young for the original toys when they were out. I only had a select few TFs but I did have my fair share of GI Joes and such. I admire my mom so much for how hard she struggled to manage all the bills and still making sure I had stuff too, it's crazy how giving she's been. Anyway, buying so many in recent years for myself has been great, and it's a shame I haven't done better at building my funds enough to keep on with it, but oh well, I'll get there.
Just don't get too caught up in it, it's really bad when you buy them even when you don't like them.

Transformers game info!
Game trailer! (
http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/805/805122/vids_1.html)
Dear, Peppermint Patty, after reading the following, I think I need to get both the PS3 and PSP games. G1 skins! 20 playable characters in the PSP version, the band Blur!
I was going to write out a more structured article, but instead I just give you the details!
Console/PC info:
-9 playable characters
-XBOX 360 runs at 720p while PS3 version is at 1080p. Same assets for both games, as well as the PC version. Wii version will have same game elements but optimized graphics for the system. I assume the PS2/XB versions will follow that direction.
-Environment was much more destructible since the build shown at Toyfair. Trees, cars, fences, and poles could be ripped from the ground. If damage was done to a building, you could pick up pieces of debris and chuck it as well. Signs on buildings could be removed also. Lots of stuff at your disposal.
-You start the game with your full weapons arsenal, but you will need to learn how to operate the different parts.
-Bumblebee gameplay similar to what was shown at Toyfair. Intro to gameplay showed Bumblebee scanning the Camaro and adopting the alt mode. First mission was to intercept Decepticon drones. While it may have seemed like a normal game element, it was made more unique by the fact that you could see the Decepticons falling from the sky in protoform mode and landing on the surface causing damage. A nice precursor to the fight that comes with them. When fighting started, it was nice to see some chaos on screen. There was a lot of stuff getting destroyed, cars getting shot out of your hands when you pick them up and don't throw fast enough, and people running away from the scene.
Battle with Barricade was shown, and featured some cool Arm Swinging attack by Barricade. Not too much of the battle was played through though.
-Blackout gameplay was also shown. Control with analog sticks to navigate looked to make control pretty easy. Mission was to destroy an army base, and it was cool to use all different weapon attacks as well as using the helicopter rotors as a cutting attack. Picking up tanks to throw at planes was also cool.
The chopper element leads to low altitude flying, while jet gameplay leads to higher altitude flying. PS3 and Wii versions will use motion sensors to control flight.
-There are 9 different environments. The city was shown for the Bumblebee section , and an army base was shown during Blackout's part.
-Gameplay includes a reward system for performing certain tasks (Protecting, Destruction, Speed, etc).
-Bonus extras - G1 character skins (not new models), Tech Specs, Production assets (Movie stills and such).
-CGI Intro by Blur was amazing. It opens panning Cybertron and has narration by Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen). Highly detailed animation featuring destructive battles between the Autobots and Decepticons. Bots thrown into buildings, Prime Jumping on Megatron while in jet mode. Definitely gets you pumped up for the game.
-Menus (Not sure if final) looked simple but clean.
-The game content was almost complete, but tweaks, fine tuning, and the usual business before release still remain.
-Currently, downloadable content is not in the game plan.
-No info available yet on what will be included in the collectors edition of the game.
-Games will be released close to the movie
PSP Version
-20 playable characters
-G1 characters included
DS Version
-Two versions; Bot/Con
-Custom character can be made using 35 possible vehicle scans. Color can be customized.
-Use of movie characters as well as custom character during the game.
-Game script more G1 based. Expect to see some G1-like dialogue and story elements.
-Largest level size of any DS game to date.
-Extra challenge missions.
-While traveling through the city, any approaching vehicle could be an enemy bot.
-4 player local multiplayer can be played with any game combination.
-XP Points can unlock new abilities.
-Wifi play is enabled for daily challenges. Tasks completed in the daily challenge tally up with everyone else submitting their challenge results via wifi to make for a large scale Autobots/Decepticon battle for the Allspark. Tokens will be rewarded in daily challenges.
-Community aspect will play a part as well with online clans and other community based features on the web. Similar approach to the Tony Hawk community.
-Tokens unlock new characters and cheats.
The Console version looks pretty good. The city details looked to be cleaned up, although to hardcore gamers the city environment might not seem as pretty as other NG titles. However, when you start taking out buildings and other parts of the surroundings, you see a good amount of detail in the environment. The game looks fun, but the final verdict will be how the game feels in the final version. Sound and Control elements (Rumble, Motion sensor) will play a big part in the final experience.
The DS version looks like it is packed with content and should be a great buy for anyone with a DS. Personally, I don't have one, but the game looked like a lot of fun, and has features that will prolong the life of the game. The ability to make a custom character is a big draw for me and I'm sure many people will appreciate the feature. Made me think about buying a DS

First pictures of Titanium Prowl, crummy photo but gives a good idea of how he looks. Also pictured: San Diego comic con Rodimus repaint as "Menasor" and a TRU Op/Megatron 2 pack
Also posted in news today is an apparent report from someone that saw some of the footage from the next TF cartoon. It pretty much said that the transformation sequences were quick blurs and didn't really show any moving parts etc.
This of course has a lot of people upset and many are already hating the show. What...what the hell?
I would LOVE for them to just have a quick blur rather than showing the same fucking overlong, overly dramatic transformation sequence in stock footage every single show for multiple characters. Seriously, if true, the blur thing would be way better than what's been done from RiD-Cybertron.

I agree it would be an improvement. "Blur" is a really ambiguous term though. People are probably afraid it means "morphing." Which I also would rather not see, but again it is still an improvement over goofy yelling scenes that take too long.

bigbadtoystore is ultra, ultra reliable. Wonderful customer service, quick shipping, good quality products. They have bad prices sometimes, but they're usually equal or lower than other places, and tthere are usually really great sales to compensate. There's almost always a 25-50 percent off thing going on. They were lower priced in the past and were a bit better then but still a great place for whenever sales roll around. I'm on their mailing list and I've got some awesome deals.
If you want some more suggestions, I do have a few, but in terms of reliability and good sales that site is the best imo.

Decent amount of shots from the movie showing the robots. In some screens they definitely don't match up that well, too detailed in comparison to what's around them and such. Overall though I'd say it doesn't look too unbelievable.

haha, I don't think I've ever seen read a review by that guy in which he didn't recommend the toy.
Lunchbox McGillicuddy

There have been a few, but more often than not he loves things
The Jazz/Bumblebee reviews are pretty positive, he liked them more than Ratchet, but still had issues and couldn't give a full on recommendation. He was unhappy with Protoscream, gave it the same rating as Ratchet.
Interestingly, he really loves the Bumblebee kids toy where the torso of the robot design just pops out of the car mode :o
I think some of the Real Gear ones have gotten full recommendations, such as the one that turns into binoculars. The cell phone got a negative review though.

Part of Nintendo Power's article on the TF Movie game. That's a much better pose for Prime than the wacky hunched over one, it should've been the one all over merchandise and advertisements instead imo.

I still say they'd look better with more traditional Transformer eyes. I'm sure the people at ILM could've still conveyed emotion without having to give them goofy turbine pupils. If they'd just watched the original cartoon they could've learned how to do that well enough. Their eyes could squint, close, enlarge, etc. Also, they could've at least given them the traditional look in battle mode. No though, that isn't believable enough in the movie about talking robots from space.
Also, as I enlarged the original picture to do that edit, it fucking scared me. Optimus should not be scary to look at :o Those damn eyes, I'm telling you.

Well with small exceptions like Optimash Prime (which I bought Friday, lols) and the Robot Heroes, expect a lot of that for the rest of the year :(

And I type this while wearing my voice changer helmet. the Peter Cullen edition.
I think sitting naked dressed only with the Prime helmet while masturbating out a window would be one of the highlights of my life. You must do this. Also, activities such as going out to check the mail or get the paper in only the Prime helmet, boxers, and long black socks must occur, yeah. Pure awesome right there.
Apparently the Cyberstompin Optimus has two versions too, one awkward voice, one Cullen voice. Weird how they did that. I'm guessing the Cullen ones are a last minute running change.
When do we get a picture like this from you MarvStraight? You can beat this guy, come on!

And besides. Most of that would be a waist of my money. I just wanted the figures, and not the fast action ones. I'm thinking about the Optimash Prime and officially that's it. The helmet is just kinda cool to have.
btw, I was watching Scrubs earlier when I thought, "Megatron kinda reminds me of Dr. Cox when he walks around his apartment in his boxers."

I'm glad that you don't have a "GOTTA HAVE EVERYTHING" mentality. That is apocalyptic on the old wallet for sure.
I do suggest Optimash, he is swell :D Large, funny display piece for only 10 bucks.
I have Darth Tater. I should get him a buddy.

I wish someone would produce a short film using Optimash, Darth Tater and any other themed Mr. Potato Head. Would be too funny. But now I need Optimash. Too funny not to have.

Also, the movie is officially out July 3rd now, and will have showing the night before. That means it will have a...6 day opening 'weekend.' Right. Going after that Spidey 3 record I see. Won't mean a thing if they do though, as Spidey 3 opened on Friday.

That theme's ok I guess. Call me old fashioned
but I prefer the Metal version done by Lion for the
animated Transformers movie.
By the way, who is that group preforming the

Yea, Ratchet's head gives me nightmares, but what doesn't these days. XD Screamers Alt mode reminds of his Alt mode from TF Energon/Superlink, so, I might pick that one up.
Honestly, I still think even that Jazz looks like shit.

I guess it's silly to think these robots should be restrained to human-like proportions, but the whole human-like aspect is hurt when they do stray from that and it just looks odd

Haha TK
This is supposedly the official voice actor list for the movie:
Optimus - Peter Cullen
Megatron - Hugo Weaving
Bumblebee - Mark Ryan (
http://imdb.com/name/nm0752699)
Ironhide - Jess Harnell (voice actor, Wakko from Animaniacs)
Barricade - Jess Harnell
Ratchet - Robert Foxworth (
http://imdb.com/name/nm0289343/)
Bonecrusher - Jimmie Wood (no idea who this is)
Jazz - Darius McCrary (Eddie from Family Matters, wtf)
Starscream - Charlie Adler (voice actor, Buster Bunny, Cow and Chicken)
Frenzy - Reno Wilson (
http://imdb.com/name/nm0934008/)
No Keith David though? It's been said that perhaps he's just voicing Barricade in the video game, but that doesn't make sense. Hugo Weaving is the only huge star there. Why'd they bother giving Megatron a big actor but go the way of regular voice actors or lesser knowns on the others? Very weird.
A few pictures, screens from the movie, render shots, production photos, etc. including a clear shot of Prime's goofy face without the plate in front. (
http://www.celebutopia.net/forum/megan-fox-shia-t33938.html?)
Official movie running time: 2 hours, 15 minutes

Check out this article on Cullen for a hilarious lack of fact checking
Hugo Weaving really isn't that big a star. And it's not like he doesn't have experience with voice acting. I really don't see anything strange there.
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
06-14-2007, 04:16 PM
Compared to the others on that list he's by far the biggest star. I don't see how being in two huge blockbuster trilogies that shit loads of people have seen, not to mention the very popular V For Vendetta doesn't qualify him as pretty major league, particularly when compared to the others on that cast list. Quite a lot of people know who he is. Jess Harnell? Darius McCray? Mark Ryan? Even Peter Cullen. No. The general public would not be able to tell you who these are by name alone.
Oh, he's definitely the biggest name on there, but that's not the point. Any way you can possibly slice it, his name isn't one that sells tickets by itself. Besides, not very many people tend to remember his name since he's been in supporting roles in most of his big films. Who's going to remember his name when he's playing the baddie to Keanu Reaves and Lawrence Fishburne or when he gets a tiny fraction of the screen time in Lord of the Rings?

Some nifty Beast Wars art:
Awkward ass scene from the movie, clip from Jay Leno

One comment on there is pretty lols: "Remember: It's not going to be silly like the old stupid cartoon...It's going to be adult and serious with no goofy stuff! And realistic! I'm Michael Bay!"
That is rather nifty indeed.
I think the new BW miniseries is due to start pretty soon. I really dislike where they took it with The Gathering, but I'm still curious to see what they do with it.

Haha, Stan Bush actually submitted a song for the new movie. I feel so bad for the guy that his career has come to being a nostalgia act for fucking toy geeks.
This character is apparently only in the game. Almost a regular looking Transformer, but then they had to make him look like a fucking satyr below the knees.
Ooooh, I've been hoping I'd get to hear Stan Bush's new song. Can't listen to it now but I will when I get home.

One of TFW's members went to an early screening and provided lots of spoilers. The scenes he was all excited about were all a bunch of goofy ass shit, like Mountain Dew machines turning into robots and goofy one liners. It sounds really fucking silly, far removed from the "urr this is ultra serious no kid stuff, it isn't cartoony" crap Bay has been spewing over and over.
Denny
06-17-2007, 05:09 PM
I wouldn't expect much from Bay but I'll just go and see it for the CGI mainly.
Yeah, I've always wanted to see what it would be like if a team of today's best CG artists got together and attempted to render the ugliest robots in the universe as realistically as possible.

Not sure if the mold works in red or not, but it's your opinion that matters.
Also, wait before you do it. Hasbro may release an official one. Lots of G1-style repaints have shown up already, so who's to say Ironhide isn't also coming?

It's official promo material. I guess it's possible the actual animation models could differ, but I don't have any hope for it. I like how the design is the closest to G1 Prime...since G1 Prime, but the art style is so fucking goofy. What the hell is with the giant head and skinny skinny waist :o
I really hate the "Animated" name too. What, as if Transformers hasn't always been a fucking cartoon? Gives me the same feeling I got when I saw the X-Men all starting to wear black leather costumes after the movies come out, Transformers as a whole is now going to cater to the upcoming movie more than anything.
Bah, I should have known better than to think this stupid thing had potential.

If any of you are bored as hell and up for a crappy cartoon here's the next episode of the Headmasters fan dub I'm part of. I'm hardly in it despite having 5 characters. They didn't even credit me for one of them :o Better than the first episode where they didn't credit me at all, haha. So like I said, I don't have many actual lines. Most of the work I did was on the sound effects in the last half. Anyway, if you're interested here it is:

Not professionally done at all of course, but it's made by a small handful of people doing it in their free time, so considering, it's not bad.
Not too much news lately, just cast/crew interviews from the movie, game/movie trailers, movie toy repaints and such. On a funny note, the Nike Convoy gets a white repaint as Ultra Magnus. Hooray! Something new and different!
