My favorite Prime, not counting the Masterpiece one who has an unfair advantage of bad assery, is either the Classics or Cybertron one.

Looking at the two movie leader Primes up there, they each have certain aspects that match the real vehicle better than the other. One thing - ROTF Prime's blue is too bright. I'm sure the million Premium repaints will fix it.

I'm also very fond of the three main Animated ones. Earth mode delxue is crazy bad ass. If only it didn't have the battle damage...

I didn't want to watch Beast Machines because I thought the toys were so ugly :( It was a pretty dumb reason really. I'd watch it now. I think I saw part of one episode after school once

TK
05-28-2009, 04:06 PM
Well the show is as ugly as most of the toys.

I really did give it an honest chance though, I watched most of Season 1 and while I thought it was very very ugly, it was the writing that offended me most. I thought they pretty much ruined every character. None of them were written properly and it just seemed like the new writers took a few aspects of their personality and made totally different characters out of them. I also kind of resented the fact that they used Transformers for some kind of "let's save the environment, kids!" BS and went on this whole THINGS MUST BE NATURAL crusade in the story. It was like uh howabout I just get a really well written sci fi story like Beast Wars. =(

Then there was the lame FIND YOUR SUPER POWERS WITHIN YOURSELF type crap, changing Megatron from a crafty and ingenious mastermind villain to a slapstick angry world domination guy and ugh. I could go on.

Botcon Animated news: Series Officially done.

Fuck fuck fuck fuck, I was really hoping their silence on the matter till now was going to be a positive. Knowing Hasbro gets it's own cartoon channel next year just makes it seem like even more of a blow, they could've easily continued it there if they had cared.

And yeah TK I don't get that toy. Nothing about it says "Transformers." Sure, it changes from one thing to the next, but that is not unique to this line by any means, it's the characters and the style that make it what it is. That thing looks like some Ghostbusters ghost or something.

I went to Target and Wal-Mart today to see if the new toys were out. Target I was looking forward to as I wanted the Superion exclusive, but no luck, they had no ROTF stuff out at all. Wal-Mart was stocking when I got there, waited till they finished so I got to see it all freshly on the shelves. I looked at each one. Didn't feel the urge to buy any of em.

The scouts are nearing 10 dollars now. Fuck.

TK

I think I'm pretty much done with this. I need to cut way down spending money on things I don't need and this definitely falls under that category. Now that the movie seems to be inundating things more and more, and I'm satisfied with what I have of the most recent Universe wave, I think it's a good stopping place.

Now that the movie seems to be inundating things more and more, and I'm satisfied with what I have of the most recent Universe wave, I think it's a good stopping place.

I've always liked TFs and I don't think anything will mess it up as a whole for me. If I don't like direction A there's always direction B to look into. I didn't like Beast Machines, but RiD came around and I loved those toys. I didn't like Armada's toys, but Energon's were better, and then the Cybertron ones were way better which lead into the wonderful Classics. I didn't dig the movie so much but then...Animated and more Classics came about which ended up really resonating with me. Who knows what might come somewhere down the road after ROTF.

I'd like to think maybe they have plans for something not related to the movie still. Rehauling it completely and never going back isn't Hasbro's style. Over the last 10-15 years they've still continually revisited G1, they did a 10th anniversary Beast Wars line, Universe had Beast Wars and Armada figures made for it, and while a new take - Animated ended up the biggest fanwank ever in the franchise. I think in some form they'll keep the long standing fans in mind - maybe not just yet, but eventually.

Of course, I'm certainly not going to buy toys I don't like anymore and be blindly loyal for the hell of it, but I'll still follow what's up with it and see if it goes in directions I'm into. Plus, there's so much of the history always untapped, x amount of comics I haven't read yet, x amount of episodes of this or that series I didn't catch, mass amounts of unfound toys to seek out good deals for, etc.

You know how you really love Beast Wars? For a lot of people, it was way too big a change from G1/G2 and they feel about that the way you feel about say Beast Machines, the movie, or Animated, you know? With all the different takes, it's easy to get really attached to one or two and hate the rest, but I don't think it means you have to be done with it as a whole.

TK
05-30-2009, 02:34 AM
It's more just that I don't think I should be spending money on this anymore and now is a good time to quit because there is currently nothing I want.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy
05-30-2009, 02:43 AM
Which totally makes sense. It's essentially what I'm doing as well. I don't currently see myself buying any ROTF toys, and I doubt I'll be buying much older things online since I'm currently trying to sell a bunch of the stuff that's just been laying around here. There are a few holes here and there I want to fill but it'll be a very casual thing at best. I'm trying to work on bettering my overall situation in life and I know buying less toys will help.

I just wanted to basically say I hope you could still perhaps be into a Beast Wars episode or enjoy the remaining toys you have rather than swear it all off entirely because of other parts of the franchise. No matter how many Michael Bay movies and corresponding spindly monster/alien figures come out, it won't keep me from loving the rest at all.

TK
05-30-2009, 02:48 AM
Oh yeah, I mean, I'm never going to stop loving Transformers. And I may even do something like focus on just building a collection of Hod Rod/Rodimus stuff. Eventually, if I am more financially comfortable at some point.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy
05-30-2009, 02:49 AM
Ah a lot of people do that. They have an Optimus shelf or a Starscream shelf and that's it. Would certainly be easier on the wallet than trying to get numerous series "completed."

I've had the thought of just sticking with a Classics/Universe collection and getting rid of everything else, but I don't know. Just sticking to selling the sealed stuff for now.

MyClones are like the one TF line I have none of. Crazy. Wreck-Gar would be theeee one to get for me, the way you can pull them apart is perfect for him.

A lot of G1 toys do feel weird but I know for the time they were about as good as they could be. I kind of like the retro vibe. Only big thing for me is the stickers make them tacky a lot of the time, but if you don't put em on - they're then too plain. It's also too bad most didn't have a way to store their weapons in alt mode. I guess the trade there is that at least the weapons really looked like weapons rather than random vehicle bits or animal asses with a missile sticking out :o

That's the original unreleased G1 Unicron. Pretty fugly, hilarious Dr. Robotnik gut, but damn, pretty big :o I've never seen any photo that showed it's actual size before.

TK

There was also a second failed attempt. They were gonna make one for Beast Wars Neo that was looking pretty decent, but still not quite as good as the Armada one:

Can't really recall why that one didn't make it.

Look what was found at the grocery store:

Botcon Animated news: Series Officially done.

I read on /co/ they confirmed that it'd be continued in comics, though! It will be so sad the first time I check out the Transformers section and don't see a single Animated toy, but I'm glad the writers will get to finish their story. I haven't read any of the Animated comics yet, there've been a few so far, right?

Not quite Transformers related but I've basically stopped buying toys too. I just look longingly right now. I don't have room for them, and as much as I like the things that I get, they're mostly boxed up in a closet, and that's just sad.

I have one pony and my TFA Bumblebee on my desk right now, and that's it. Don't plan on selling anything yet- I am holding out the hope that when we move again, I'll have room for everything and new stuff too. I don't want to be a person who doesn't get toys anymore.

At the IDW panel this morning they said the Animated continuation is just "in talks" so far. There will be an Animated Almanac published in August though, with a lot of bios and even concept art from the original show pitch back when it was called "Heroes."

Do you have any shelving BEARDED PRINCESS? That's the main thing that's kept me from displaying things properly, no real place to put any shelves in here. My bed used to talk almost all the space in here as well. I recently got rid of it just to make room for things - as I sleep on the couch anyway. I am Neg's hero for that.

Neg
05-30-2009, 06:40 PM
You're my hero for many more reasons than that, my friend <3

Marceline
05-30-2009, 06:44 PM
Ah. The thread I saw it in is gone now, but they said something about it staying alive in comics thanks to the UK? Obviously Botcon's the more reliable source, though.

I don't have shelving. I've wanted to hang shelves up on the walls forever, but it's against the terms of my lease. We have the shelves dvds and games are on, but that's overfull already. We could maybe make room for one of those nice clear standing shelves, but that still leaves a lot of stuff in closets.

We do have huge windowsills stuff could go on, but I'm afraid it'd bleach stuff out.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy
05-30-2009, 09:35 PM
Yeah I guess if you can find light (not heavy for when you move) standing shelves that'd be the best option. Some places have cheap ones, like 4-5 tiers for 13 dollars that can hold 150 pounds per shelf and things like that.

The window would definitely lead to yellowing or fading on the toys. Though, too much time stored away can too depending on the temperature! It's really hot and humid here. I recently got out my RiD Optimus Prime, and even though it's been in a box for the longest time, the white parts are now a little bit yellow :(

Rundown of the Hasbro toy panel from today:

Toys R Us Exclusives -

Reissue G1 Insecticons
Reissue G1 Perceptor

Will all have vac metal. Perceptor won't have his missile launcher

RotF Battle Pack, Blue Movie Soundwave, Movie 1 Voyager Megs
Titanium Hot Zone (Hot Spot), Optimus, Thrust

Wal-Mart Exclusives -

Masterpiece Skywarp, closer to the original G1 toy than Takara's

Target Exclusives -

"Burning" movie Fallen

ANIMATED -

Remaining toys will be released, Hasbro will make every effort, timing TBD. Some may end up as store exclusives or filter into the next Universe line

Confirmed releases:
Electrostatic Soundwave with Ratbat
Arcee
Rodimus
Ratchet (Cybertron Mode)
Ironhide will be made from the above mold, with new head
Wasp - Earth mode, Bumblebee repaint, named Fugitive Waspinator
Goldfire Grimlock
Hydrodive Bumblebee
Freeway Jazz
Blackout
Wingblade Prime - deluxe Optimus with wings, gauntlets and Magnus hammer that turn into a trailer. Ends up voyager sized.
Voyager Thundercracker (to complete the typical trio)

Animated toys will continue to have Animated packaging - for the short term anyway

Animated Activators Fireblast Grimlock and Soundwave will be coming out, not saying when

No plans to make Female Starscream, her name is confirmed as Slipstream.
Animated Omega Supreme - wanted to do him and others who don't have toys, Constructicons for example, decided it was not the best time to do them.

Universe Cyclonus means no Animated Cyclonus

Universe/Classics -

Classics/Universe will be back in 2010 - at least in deluxe scale.

Red Powerglide, IDW Hardhead from ultra Onslaught, and G2 Skyjack from Silverbolt will be TRU exclusive repaints in the near future.

Upcoming movie Bludgeon (voyager class) will fit in with Universe

Drift toy - "come back tomorrow"

MP Grimlock - if an opportunity comes up, he'll get brought out in the US. They plan to try to release him in the next 18 months, details are sketchy

No immediate plans for more G1 Robot Heroes

No plans for Citybots

Henkei Red Alert - not coming to the US

Sunstorm is still a possibility but no specific plans

Universe line is well liked by the Hasbro team, because it is an opportunity to keep doing different characters. Does a lot for Hasbro, when Universe stops it is because they've got a lot of other stuff going on, not because it is unpopular.

Won't be doing repaints for the sake of repaints, no more full line of repaints, will be mixed with new toys, and will have a story behind them

ROTF stuffs -

RotF Legends Wheelie, Soundwave
Scout Breakdown, G1 style deco apparently
Skystalker, Scout class, based on a drone plane
Scattorshot, Scout, little minesweeper / tank, twin rifles. Meant to fight Skystalker

Movieverse Lockdown, will be a Deluxe class, looks a lot like Animated Lockdown
Deluxe class Ratchet
Deluxe Dirge (conehead, harrier jump jet)

Voyager Ironhide redeco, new weapons, bumper turns into crossbow
Voyager Bludgeon, tank, samurai robot mode, huge sword, orange body, red helmet, green tank orange robot - apparently made like a Universe toy

Human Alliance Barricade with Frenzy. Frenzy can hold twin guns

Ice Cream twins - they decided it was so weird that they had to do it. Same as toaster bot

Third Arcee bike will get made, will be a redeco but different from the others
RotF bikes - toys will be able to combine, apparently the combining was dropped from the Movie

Devastator - individual robot modes not possible because of the cost involved, to make them all look as good as they cold, to hold together, to be playable, to be a lot of fun. Wanted the individuals to be the best possible toys without the combining feature pulling them down

Will not necessarily be seeing every character in Devastator as an individual character

Legends Devastator will be a store exclusive in Spring 2010

Devastator is made of 6-7 Constructicons. He's formed by however many Constructicons are around. So 6 and 7 members are both accurate!

Springer will probably not get a mainline toy, you have probably seen all the toys of him already. Character is not actually in the film.

Next Cartoon -

stated it will be of Animated's quality

Other toys/General -

Alternity - not coming to US, Takara has a deal with Nissan that Hasbro is not a part of.

No plans to release Mighty Muggs Shockwave and Jazz at this time, but they'll try to find a home for them

Price rises, put up the costs rather than make the toys smaller - if they'd kept the cost the same the toys would have been 75% of the size

Robot mode packaging depends on the character - robot modes are used when it is felt it might sell the product better / present it better on the shelves.

Fan made products (FansProject and stuff) - love them for doing things that they generally would not do, however they're starting to infringe on Hasbro's IP, they've gone too far with some of the stuff coming down the road, officially not approved of at all, Hasbro is looking hard at it. Sounds like the hammer is coming down. When done in fun it's fine. When they start making money off the intellectual property (i.e. fully transforming figures of Springer), it is not okay. Full blown business with tools and retail prices of $100 + is going too far

Hasbro are moving toward putting more detail into the toys.

Looking to use more environmentally safe packaging with less twist ties and the like.

Nexus Maximus name - Hasbro also says "ooops"

There's more to come tomorrow, apparently, and pictures of some of this stuff might pop up.

From the Collector's Club panel:

Next exclusive will be Punch/Counterpunch from the Universe Sideswipe/Sunstreaker mold. Great idea. Will have a new head...or two :o

Exclusive after that is a mystery, said to be featured in the 2010 club comic extensively, a large character. They're waiting on confirmation of mold availability before announcing it. Big toy. (I hope it's Armada Tidal Wave as Broadside, personally)

Those two will hopefully be out before year's end.

The unreleased RiD Prime as Defensor from 2005's Botcon may still see the light of day:

Botcon Exclusives and Club Exclusives are very hard to manage, as Takara has a hard time making small run figures in the middle of regular operations, and Hasbro has to limit access to various molds when they have specific plans for them.

Panel asked for audience feedback on possible exclusives like G1 reissues, new versions of old characters (think Shattered Glass good Decepticons/bad Autobots) and glow in the dark Transformers. None of these confirmed, they just wanted the crowd's reaction.

ROTF did not show at the convention this year (2007's BotCon had the premiere of the first movie) because...it's still not finished

What the fuck? How is it less than a month away from debuting in theaters everywhere and NOT FINISHED? Maybe because they didn't start shooting till last August? I've always said, ROTF seems like a massive rush job. Oi.

That's pretty much the only info you guys might care about from that panel

Don't have to justify it Neg. I watch a ton of movies too and of course I will watch Revenge of the Fallen. I still think it's been rushed though. It's coming out in like 3 weeks. It should be DONE. They locked in a release date before they started, and even with a late start after the writer strike, they stuck to the date. I don't think these things need to be fumbled through just to meet a summer deadline in hopes of more ticket sales. With the success of the first movie, I'm sure an October or November release would've been just as good as June/July. I would've expected 2010, really.

A 2010 release also could've allowed time for season four of Animated

Neg

It would have been nice! But, alas, everything happens as it happens.

The news you posted is really great. I like that even though I'm not the hugest movieverse fan, there is still so much for people to be excited about within the franchise. Some franchises seem really one dimensional, but TF has tons of things going on at any given time. Since I got back into them with the first movie, I've been nothing short of enraptured. The Hasbro Designer panel was....weird this year. Apparently it was only 30 minutes and after just a few comments based on what was said at the Hasbro Preview panel yesterday, Tyrese Gibson showed up and took over...talking about his comic book and other movie projects. What? Then it ended! I guess the Hasbro guys didn't want to field questions or reveal anything else. Damn.

Some tiny added bits:

Reissue Perceptor does come with the missile launcher, it just won't be able to fire. Safety issues.

Animated Arcee is as tall as movie Bumblebee

Animated Rodimus is as tall as Animated Jazz. Has broad shoulders. Cross bow forms the top of his wings.

Animated Cyb. Ratchet can fit the Lockdown EMP like the regular version.

Wingblade Optimus' extra armor will be compatible with regular voyager Optimus

Movie scout Breakdown is styled much like G1 Stunticon Breakdown (could be exaggerated?)

Movie Lockdown is the same size as Animated Lockdown, they will be very similar overall. He too is compatible with the EMP accessory.

Movie voyager Bludgeon stores guns on hips. Formed from the tank's gun barrel.

Movie leader Starscream confirmed, much more accurate than the voyager (which most people into the toys have already bought now lawl)

Movie Human Alliance Barricade w/Frenzy confirmed

Universe Drift design sketches were shown

and then Tyrese crashed the panel

Read the above post too jews

Not THRILLED with his face but I dig it overall

Freeway Jazz

Hyrodive Bumblebee

Needs lipstick to resemble the show model properly

Going to make a great Ironhide I'm sure

Golfire Grimlock

DJW's Springer. Might see the whole design in the Almanac in August!

Universe G2 Skyfall/Skyjack. Got the colors down very well. Needs a new head to properly resemble the character though :(

Hasbro's Red Powerglide. More Geeewuuuun accurate than Takara's, lulz

Hardhead. Again, new head would be nice. As is, kind of resembles RiD MegaOctane (which was a G1 Onslaught repaint)

Reissue Perceptor

Reissue Insecticons

MP Skywarp. No robot mode shown. Hopefully they'll find room for Thundercracker down the line too

"Burning" Fallen. More movie-accurate colors than the regular toy.

TRU's "g1" movie Soundwave

Nothing else new was shown as far as I know

that soundwave reminds me of IDW's Thunderwing.

Nothing in this entire show interests me. Which right now I am actually glad about.

Animated Arcee is almost ok. Roddy would suck even without the horrible head because his torso is too big.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy
06-01-2009, 02:33 AM
Yeah if you're not into Animated or movie there's not much for you :o Rodimus has very skinny legs too. I really wouldn't mind it overall if he had a stern expression rather than the...frown or whatever.

I wish they would do a Thunderwing from Stormbringer, that's a pretty great design. With Universe coming back next year, who knows.

I hope to see things like the movie Lockdown, Bludgeon, Drift design, Wingblade Optimus, Animated Blackout, etc at SDCC maybe. They left a lot of the things they mentioned uncovered. I think the people at the panel saw em, but of course, no photos allowed.

Ktulu, if you were a transformer you'd be called Ktulutron (I know, genius). You'd be Ktulu walking and talking but would transform into a couch that I'd fall asleep on and just be lazy and such. You'd also have a cup holder.

Neg I think it's a good season closer but not so much a series closer. Obviously they couldn't help that though, so it can't really be judged harshly in that way. At Botcon they mentioned they wanted more in the final episodes but it just had to be thrown out.

Think if the G1 cartoon had ended with the movie. It's sort of like that. You do have a somewhat complete story but there's still some things left open.

Neg

Bay gets 8 percent of movie toy profits. I don't quite think that's right. It's not like he's the one that actually designed any of them, sculpted them into toy form, engineered their transformations, etc. He just said "yes, I like that" to the work of others. I think I'm leaning towards Jazz Santi's general idea that Skids is the new Jazz. I'm assuming on this, but if not, I'll be brave enough to think it myself, no worries.

I've been very tolerant of Skids in my head (silent acceptance) for a couple weeks now.

Ray has an interesting take on Megs's face showing all the time. I don't agree with it, but I respect it. Kudos to him for liking what he likes.

Saw part of one of the art books that describes Megatron's head issue as some sort of scanner like the Beast Machine drones have. Cop out, really.

Wonder what color he really will be. I'm guessing the red at Botcon.

Then there's this repaint that barely looks different:

I just read a summary of the chapters online personally. The comic adaptation seems to be pretty much exactly the same, maybe go for that. Either way, movie is out in two weeks.

He never turned black, and turning black only came to symbolize that you'd be dead for a WHILE.

So, of course Magnus was capable of being put back together. Hell, Waspinator gets blown up almost every episode.

Man I bet if Optimus gets permanently knocked off in the Bayverse in the third movie, friggin Bumblebee will become the leader
