There was a rumor going around that Bay intended to do that to "get back at her" for being critical of him. It was bullshit, especially considering that it makes no sense.

Bigger bullshit = the fans that dislike her solely because she doesn't kiss Bay's ass and thought killing her off early in the movie would be some kind of epic revenge. Yeah, let's give the person we don't like an easy paycheck, that'll show her~~~~~~

I talked about this in the thread already :(

No no. Amazingly enough, there are people out there who are really serious fans of michael bay transformers. I don't mean people who saw the movie and didn't think it was bad. I don't even mean people who saw it and liked it. I mean people who saw it and liked it so much that it became a significant factor in their life, causing them to collect toys and other paraphernalia related to it. This is perhaps the lowest point that human taste can sink to, aside from people who are into japanese beetle porn or "bands" where some dude jumps around with a microphone in his mouth while guys make a bunch of random feedback.'

Tom, it's the people that responded to that Shia article with "What the fuck? I thought it was the best movie ever!" There are indeed fans that absolutely love the films and think Michael Bay is some kind of genius that "brought back Transformers"

I reference a lot of weird, goofy fan reaction here. It's usually from the younger crowd, usually. Not all TF fans are like that.

DISCLAIMER - I don't think liking the movies constitutes "weird and goofy", but being so angry at someone for NOT liking the movies that they want to see some representation of their graphic death, indulging some twisted revenge fantasy, is pretty fucking out there.

Did I already ponder why Peter Cullen wouldn't do the Robot Chicken Optimus Prime prostate cancer sketch because it wasn't respectful to the characters but he did do the bay movies?
Or maybe I said something like that somewhere else.

TK
04-04-2010, 07:07 AM
I have a feeling the movies involved a substantially greater sum of money than the robot chicken thing, whatever that may have been.

More importantly though, while I find Cullen's respect for the character of Optimus Prime to be admirable, it only goes so far; that respect alone would not stop him from doing the Michael Bay version. It's respect for the fans that would have done that, and/or respect for artistic decency.

They're popcorn movies, devoid of sense, high on BAM POW THIS IS COOL LOOK AT THAT OH FUCK, and I feel people enjoying them on that level is fine. I can enjoy a lot of movies in that vein. I'm only bothered when people like them so much that they freak when other people point out that the flaws keeping the live action Transformers from being anything more than that caliber of film. If they at least know they're not really masterpieces and refrain from fucking flipping out when someone else can't really vibe with them, then ok, fair enough. (I'm also a little put off when anyone uses the BAM POW element as their sole argument against anyone that brings up the problems with the plot. A Youtube reviewer I'm friends with sadly reviewed the film this way. The video was him looking into the camera in wide eyed fucking amazement, recounting some shallow action scene Bumblebee had, asking how anyone can not like SOMETHING SO AWESOME!!!!!)

I know it's almost hypocritical to be able to like some other dumb blockbuster that had 0 brain power behind it and then shit on these, but since I care about the franchise so much I just hoped for it to be handled with more care, and it's hard for me to be happy with what we got instead.

Thing about Transformers and other kids franchises is the fact that they're simple but you can do alot with simple. You'd be crazy to think some one will make it the next Citizen Cane* but at the very least we should get something that resembles the original and will be fun for the kids and the grownups won't instantly hate having to sit through it.

The main reason I dislike Animated is I think it's hideous. But it's hideous in a semi innocent, trendy doesn't-know-any-better way, as opposed to the irreverent mess of a braindead, anti-artistic demon aesthetic the movies adopted. If I had to pick one of the two for the franchise to be dominated by forever it would be Animated in a heartbeat.

If it had been pretty, I probably would have liked it. Heck, if it had been <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectacular_Spider-Man_(TV_series)>not pretty but not ugly and with truly fantastic scripting and characterizations</a>, I could have loved it.

You mean the Teen Titans quasi Anime/Loony Toons style? Ya that isn't my favorite style in the world, plus everyone had Jay Leno chins and cat noses. With computer graphics cheaper and easier now I wonder if a new series like beast wars would be practical?

TK
04-06-2010, 05:55 AM
It would definitely be practical. It's unlikely, though. Beast Wars was an incredibly rare phenomenon. You could do another CG series, but it would not be a CG series with supurb writing, dead serious irreversible character deaths, and a legitimately engrossing sci fi narrative that's furthered in every episode.

Personally I would just be happy with a series that uses Transformers aesthetic and makes everything really pretty and has decent writing.

Pre-order content is on the disc, they just don't unlock it for you unless you pre-order. Alternatively, it might download onto the hard drive when you put in the code? Good luck cracking the incentives on a console though - I don't think it's been done yet.

Speaking of Bioshock 2, the DLC they just released was actually on the disc at launch. All you bought when you got the DLC was a code to unlock this content. What I'm getting at here is I think paid DLC is a shit system. These pre-order bonuses aren't as bad but it's still a bad system in my opinion.

Those are the Takara versions there Neg.

However, Rodimus is coming to N. America in the fall as a TRU exclusive, along with Ironhide. Hasbro wants to put out all the remaining stuff, it's just that TRU is the only store willing to release them. Wal-Mart, Target, and K-Mart only want movie stuff.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy

Once we have Rodimus and Ironhide, the only toys with new tooling left unreleased will be Wingblade Optimus, Blackout, and Hydrodive Bumblebee. That leaves a repaint or two unaccounted for, but the other three are the "important" ones. However, they're all voyagers, so I don't know if that bodes well for them.

Since Takara is definitely releasing those voyagers though, at least those that want them will at least have the choice of importing if Hasbro never gets to put them out. Better than not being able to have them at all.

Which is funny, because when the news came that Rodimus/Ironhide would be TRU exclusive like Arcee and Cybertronian Ratchet, a lot of fans were like FUCK THIS SHIT I WISH THEY WEREN'T COMING OUT AT ALL IN THAT CASE.

Lawl. I reiterate a recurring point though - it's not everyone

I think the biggest fuel is that Arcee has been notoriously hard to find. There are a lot of nice, reasonable fans that will buy extras for others with no bullshit markups involved. My friend GogDog from TFW was able to find one for me. People just make this stuff worse than it has to be.

It's definitely wrong for anyone to hate on Hasbro though. They're at least putting effort into getting these things released. The show has been canceled for a year now, the fact that they're bothering with any more toys at all is pretty admirable. The ones that deserve the hate are the other retail stores that won't back anything but the movie stuff.

Even so, the guy that really wants Rodimus, can't find one, and gets it for 40 bucks on eBay, the big point is that - at least he has the thing. Some people saying they'd rather them not come out at all is pretty nutty.

Mine too, Tom. I wish I could get out there more. I worked at a Toys for years, so I get pretty sentimental about it, and I always always always find something I want when I go there. It's easy to go to the toy department of other places and not even be tempted, especially now that Animated toys are gone.

It's not that we wouldn't be willing to traval that far but it's not something you can just do at random and traveling farther increases the risk of disappointment when you don't get that one thing you're after.

Hasbro does bi-monthly Q&As with various websites. Usually they pick boring stuff to answer and even then only give vague, unhelpful answers. Granted, all plans are always subject to change, but we do not want to promise anything at this point in time."

05-01-2010, 07:05 AM
Oh the walker thing. Why is it that purple is kind of a villain color?

TK
05-01-2010, 07:13 AM
Purple has been a villain color in TFs for a long time! Think about it, how many purple Autobots are there? None I can recall. Decepticons had Shockwave right off the bat, plus Rumble, and then purple was the color for Galvatron and his gang. I can't think of a purple good guy character in Transformers until TM2 Blackarachnia in Beast Wars, though I bet Ktulu can without much trouble.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy
05-01-2010, 07:17 AM
One likely reason is that it's a "regal" color, which has connotations of power. Some view it as somewhat flamboyant as well, which works well for "crazier" characters, The Joker being a classic example. In shows for kids it's also a less threatening go-to than black, although this isn't utilized as often anymore. It's interesting to note that it's a secondary color as opposed to the primary colors (blue, red, yellow) that many heroes often have. Maybe on some subconscious level that effects the designers.

For Transformers specifically though, it's majorly just sort of following the trend at this point since purple was such a heavily used color for the G1 Decepticons.

TK - Huffer has a purple body

It teeters that "is it blue or purple?" line though. In the cartoon and comics it leaned towards purple, for the toy it was definitely blue.

Tom Toonami Tunes
05-01-2010, 07:21 AM
Not just Transformers but also Skeletor & the Shredder are purple themed with their capes and stuff.

TK
05-01-2010, 07:23 AM
I think the primary colors thing probably has a lot to do with it... I bet that if you looked at a lot of different movies and cartoons you'd find purple is used much more often for bad guys, and that good guys usually have primary colors associated with them. No idea what the psychological reasons for this would be though.

Tom Toonami Tunes
05-01-2010, 07:26 AM
Could be less psychological and more basic primaries like red are easier for the kiddies to pick out and identify as apose to a redish blueish color like purple.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy
05-01-2010, 07:56 AM
I doubt anyone else cares but Classics style Red-Alert (repainted Universe 2 Sideswipe) is confirmed for Hasbro release now as part of "Generations." No pictures yet, but I'm sure it's close to the Henkei one:

I wish Generations was getting a voyager assortment so Inferno could be retooled as Grapple :( Ah well.

In a past Hasbro Q&A, they said Red Alert would not be released, period, so this shows that those sometimes need to be taken with a grain of salt. To go back to a recent topic, "No plans for Animated Season 3 on DVD" could possibly be untrue.

That rundown works for most people that do video reviews. There are the variables, the ones with character rundowns and zany comedy bits thrown in, but it's all usually wrapped around that general outline. My early attempts were certainly no better. I think I saw a "video review" for the first time in 06, when it was guys like "MatrixPrime" doing exactly what Peaugh does now, only more drawn out. I know it probably seems like I'm being a dick, but I honestly have no ill will towards anyone that does it at all. I'm just over it, tired of seeing the same thing over and over.

Mostly.

Tom Toonami Tunes
05-02-2010, 06:39 AM
Video reviews are something you don't watch every one of just because, you watch them when you need an opinion of a particular item.

Watching them saves me money, I guess. They really do just sit here. Maybe TK has a point.

Not subscribed to nearly as many as I was. Vangelus and TJ are mostly all I ever see vids from anymore. Besides that King Laffo fella~

Man, T3, I watch them mainly to hear people talk about TF. I like hearing people talk.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy
05-02-2010, 06:55 AM
Video reviews are something you don't watch every one of just because, you watch them when you need an opinion of a particular item.

I go to picture/text reviews for that. Given that many video reviews seem to stick to that "outline" above, especially the guys that get the toys early on, genuinely well-thought out opinions feel scarce. The majority of the commentary is fairly stock. "The detail is nice." "It's very articulated." "The colors are great." Those phrases are becoming very diluted. For me, checking out a nice gallery with a few honest thoughts written before or after (what works and what doesn't) feels more constructive. It's quicker, you see the toy without some dude's hands in the way, blah blah.

I know showing them off on camera allows the viewer to form an initial opinion on whether or not they'll buy it, and that's wonderful. I'm sure I'm just being snooty about how the reviewers are putting it together, but it's hard for me to get past how mundane it can be.

That said, there are still videos out there I enjoy. I'm not vehemently against video reviews at all, I just wish more of them felt less cut and paste in composition.

Lawl, standards for guys talking about pieces of plastic. I'm ridiculous.

I scanned over this post and saw TK, TJ, T3 and TF in each line. It amused me.

I watch a lot of video reviews with the sound off, tbh. :( I mostly just care about seeing the toy.

I <3 Vangelus though. And King Laffo, of course!

Sean Long's review of......Onslaught? is pretty lol. He's clearly drunk.

Now he's got Neck Beard man yelling at him for something like discussing pornography with minors. OR SOMETHING. I assume it's Sean from the linked videos and such. Optibotimus can be so damn vague in his SERIOUS BIDNESS videos. You gonna give me the skinny, GIVE ME THE SKINNY, MAN.

Also, I forgive davet for killing SarahMLP. He looks so sad...and smexy.

From what's been stated, they're not getting into combiners yet. If true, it's still clear they're setting up for it in the inevitable sequels.

The live action concept art never does anything for me, I always feel it's very generic. Doesn't really feel like "Transformers" to me. I find the design work from this game is much more successful in that field.

The tank has been revealed as Brawl, and if I had to guess about the female plane - the colors are very much like Slipstream from Animated.

The big unnamed warrior Autobot might be the one that precedes Optimus as leader, Zeta Prime

Check out this Transformers Animated fan re-dising of Skids & Mudflap.

"Another (re)design for Transformers Animated - Skids & Mudflap from Revenge Of The Fallen!

My goal with these character was to make them likeable, since they were a pretty crazy couple in the movie...some might even say..tasteless?

I don't think their gangster wannabe characters would fit in TFA, so I designed them to be younger, friendlier characters, keeping their 'bumbling' clumsiness while at the same time give them something unique to set them apart from those OTHER TFA twins, Jetfire & Jetstorm.

If Jetfire & Jetstorm are the early teen twins, then Skids & Mudflap are the kiddy twins..and they're not nearly as powerful as those guys, though, far from it.

In short: Skids & Mudflap were protoformed in a facility that was under attack by the 'Cons, resulting in their 'faulty' forms. Skids is deaf, while Mudflap is blind. When they work together though, they're quite a pair..when they're loafing around or in an argument with each other..not so much! They will (accidentally) mess things up! But that's how brothers are, right? Helping each other out one minute, fighting each other the next!"
