Haven't you been reading the thread? O_o

It'll be called "Transformers Heroes." Supposedly the version of Optimus in it is going to be a younger, less experienced one. And I think he's supposed to be a firetruck. And it'll be the first TF series since Beast Wars to get made in the US. Those are all the details I can recall, I imagine Ktulu probably remembers more.

I'm a little nervous about it, to be honest, 'cause I can imagine it easily turning into one of those "let's immitate anime" shows that I hate. But I'm crossing my fingers.

What I remember off the top of my head is:;

Confirmed characters - Optimus, Prowl, Bumblebee, Megatron, Starscream.

Alleged confirmed voice actors:

David Kaye (usual Megatron) as Optimus

Tom Kenny as Starscream

As a US produced show, apparently Cartoon Network will have more say in the direction, with the Teen Titans team working on it

Keep in mind all of this is early and subject to change, and it's always possible some of it is purely rumor at this point.

Why, Megatron isn't the only voice he can do. I imagine whatever he comes up with will be exactly what the character should sound like.

Hasbro speaks on why Star Wars Transformers turned out the way they are rather than the cool line people expected (ie vehicles that turn into Optimus and Starscream):

CC: Could you please describe the marketing strategy for the Star Wars Transformers line? Obviously, there is a lot of overlap between the two fan bases. I for one am as likely to bore my friends for hours on end describing the Hegellian dialectic operating in the Transformers Movie as I am to discourse on the Roman historical parallels at work in the Star Wars saga. That being said, why didn't we see a greater synthesis in this hybrid line? Maybe a Sith would be so narcissistic as to want to drive a giant robot with his own augustan likeness, but it seems to me that a simple headswap could have had Starscream transforming into an Imperial Shuttle. Did you conduct market tests that showed six-year-old boys preferred vehicles that turned into giant versions of Star Wars characters rather than Transformers that turned into Star Wars vehicles? I'd wager that the 35 year old collector market would have enjoyed the latter.

H: Excellent question and one of the decision points we were faced with when our Star Wars R&D team created the idea for the line. We very clearly kept the Star Wars Transformers line focused on the *functional* aspect of transformation rather than an intellectual property (IP)-based transformation to deliberately not confuse the "real" Transformers storyline. This was especially important considering the upcoming Transformers movie this Summer. For the same extent, we have not as a company pursued any GI Joe-vs-Transformers toys even though the cross-over comics have been very successful. It's keeping the communication very clear from a kid standpoint, which was our primary focus. Believe it or not, we did not factor the collector very heavily into the SW TF line thinking at the beginning, since we were not confident that collectors of either Star Wars or Transformers would be converts to the line. Since this super-cool line has been well-received by both kids and collectors alike, you have seen us delve a little deeper to deliver more collector-focused concepts like transforming Imperial Shuttles, Clone Wars deco-vehicles, and Snowspeeders to deepen the collecting and playing experience.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy

Highly abbreviated, but:

Prime first came back in the episode "Dark Awakening" when the Quintessons stole the body from the Autobot's morgue and reanimated him to use him against the other Autobots. He ultimately regained his own consciousness, though his body was falling apart (this episode is famous for being pretty moody, especially with Prime being all zombied up) and flew himself into the trap the Quintessons had hoped he'd lure the Autobots into.

Even though he was apparently completely destroyed then, some human explorers recovered his body before the ship crashed into the sun. The ship they used to recover the body in was infected by a solar plague during the explosion, one that caused immense violent behavior in anyone, transformers included, that it infected. One of the humans hated all transformers in general, Autobots included, blaming them on a crippling accident to his daughter, and used Optimus' body to lure in the Autobots and spread the plague to them in hopes of causing them to destroy themselves. The remaining uninfected Autobots, Sky Lynx, Bumblebee, Kup, Blaster, and Steeljaw used a Quintesson to fully restore Optimus' life in hopes of using his wisdom and leadership to find a cure for the rapidly spreading plague. An alloy was created to prevent him from being infected, and eventually after a battle with the infected Rodimus he regained the matrix and used it's combined wisdom to reverse the plague, beginning a short term of peace between the Autobots and Decepticons.

That's how the damn show should have ended rather than the horrible 3 part season 4 :o

March 21, 2007 - This Thursday's weekly PlayStation Store update is made up almost entirely of movie trailers (Transformers, Bee Movie, and Shrek the Third), but that doesn't mean that videogames have been left out of the equation. SEGA of America will release the three different mission packs for Sonic the Hedgehog -- one each for Sonic, Silver, and Shadow.

I hate typecasting actors so his other work won't bother me if Hugo Weaving is Megatron. I can't tell you how much that sort of thing gets on my nerves, such as when the Prestige was out and one of my jackass roommates was calling it the Batman Vs. Wolverine movie. That's the very thing many actors that take big roles hope to avoid. It won't bother me that he was in the Matrix since he's had other roles in other huge movies. I don't think you should hold his casting in the Matrix against him.

That news doesn't seem official or concrete, so I won't fully believe it yet either way.

Michael Bay:

"Almost a 100 days left. I guess I should start posting every week? I've been working my ass off - the cut is really coming along -the shots ---awesome. Some of the most difficult renders in ILM history. Sometimes up to 38 hours per frame. The Show West thing was fun to see the scenes play in a 1000 person house. But they just saw 25 minutes so it is hard to feel engaged because they are not seeing the full run of a movie. Harry called me to tell me how he loved it. I see all the dickwad talk back people who claim they have read a finished script. Impossible - I kept the only draft for the last two months before shooting. That's where did major retooling to the script - yes the scene beats are similar but a very different script. We are still writing the robot voices. They talk about just 20 minutes of action at the end - yeah right. This is by far the most action I have ever put into a movie - I have 12 huge set pieces. Boy I get tired of these lame cry babies on the net.

I'm not terribly fond of it, but I don't dislike it either. I've learned to like it I suppose. Michael Bay wanted the Transformers' eyes to look like turbines, as he didn't like the classic look, that's why they look like that, end of story.

Megatron apparently has an as of yet undisclosed Earth alternate mode in the movie, but I'm not sure if that's true. The toy pictures you've seen aren't of a design just for the toyline, it'll be seen in the film as well, it's his natural Cybertronian alt mode.

In the US version of the cartoon Optimus Prime is the leader again once he's resurrected, and is still the leader when the series ends. In the Japanese cartoon Headmasters, Prime (Convoy) is the leader until he sacrifices himself to merge with Vector Sigma when it becomes unstable. In the Japanese G1 storyline he does return much later as Star Convoy however.

Jazz and Ratchet are two designs I don't mind from the movie. Ratchet's head is pretty goofy but the body in robot mode is one of the better ones. great news

The Botcon exclusive toys are the rest of the classic seekers. If you want Classics Thundercracker, Thrust, and Dirge, expect to pay horrific fucking prices.

:(

Don't know if it's real but apparently these are in Wal-Mart computers as upcoming Titaniums:

SHOCKWAVE 65356927056
COSMOS 65356927057
BUMBLEBEE 65356927459

Here's praying they don't fuck them up like they did Magnus and Soundwave, if they are in fact coming out at all.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy

It makes me wonder if Classics will completely halt forever, with Titanium taking it's place full on.

Either way, the rest of the seekers being Botcon exclusives really makes me mad :( They're gonna be so damn expensive. Getting the exclusive set from last year usually costs 600 dollars or so.

Michael Bay really only shines with action sequences, so if it's got enough good ones, it should at least be good on the whole shallow popcorn movie front. I don't think it'll be pure crap or anything, but then, I try to as positive as I can these days. Still don't like those damn designs very much, but if they're being animated that well throughout the whole film, and I do have faith in ILM's work, then at least it'll look believable enough for all the people that need their hands held when watching a sci-fi/fantasy film not to dismiss it immediately, giving it a chance to succeed. Even with all the odd choices this film has, I'd still like it to succeed, just because, no matter how different it is, it is Transformers, and I'm a life long fan, so I'd hate to see people completely balking at it across the board.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy
04-06-2007, 06:42 AM
I don't think so, I think it's just a nod, kind of like Energon Snow-Cat. In the recent interview with Hasbro about Star Wars TFs, they mentioned the same as they didn't want to mix TF and Star Wars literally, i.e. X-Wing Starscream (which would've been way better), they don't necessarily want to create a full on Joe/TF line. I don't know why, it'd be great.

I imagine there might be some more Gi-Joe/Transformer bots in Titanium at some point though

TK

TK
04-07-2007, 05:04 AM
I couldn't care less, honestly. I will never play the game, and even if I did, it wouldn't matter to me to hear Megatron's voice on a hideous walking jumble of random spikes and pipes. I mean I didn't even care who voiced him (or Optimus, or anybody else) in the movie because I just don't care about it at all anymore. As far as I'm concerned it is some random Michael Bay movie about a bunch of ugly robots I am not at all familiar with. There's no reason for this movie to be called "Transformers." They should have called it DOOMSDAY ROBOTS or something and just abandoned the title, since they abandoned everything else related to the series.

This is out now. Kind of makes me mad how they milked the Classics line with filler stuff like this and the mini-cons and other Legends repaints when it would've been much better to spend that money producing wide released of the other Decepticon jets rather than just making them crazy expensive Bot Con exclusives :o

TK
04-07-2007, 05:39 AM

For sure. For the rest of the year I'll probably just try to find decent prices online for the Cybertron/Energon stuff I missed every now and then, maybe buy one a month or something. I need to take it easier than I have been, I just can't afford throwing all my money away on this stuff, especially when I don't even have space for all of it. My new school is also hilariously expensive.

TK
04-07-2007, 05:45 AM
Yeah. As soon as I get a paypal account which I have been planning to do forever but still haven't done, I'm gonna adopt the same strategy. Almost nothing new will be coming out that I want so I will start with the ebayin'.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy
04-07-2007, 05:46 AM
If you have a debit card you can just use that for paypal and not have to pay the fee it charges you if you sign up directly with your bank account.

I imagine the next TF cartoon will bring some good toys our way again, unless it adapts the movie style, sort of like X-Men comics did for so long after the current films came out.

TK
04-07-2007, 05:48 AM
what do you mean? Like you can use it by putting in your debit card number and pin without actually having a paypal account ?_?

Lunchbox McGillicuddy
04-07-2007, 06:01 AM
Well you make an account, username and password, but you can pay for items with your debit card rather than having it set up to come directly from the checking account, which is their whole "verified" option. They take out fees (small ones though) if you use the "add bank" checking account option, but the other way is free to use. Most eBay sellers don't care either way.

Yes. In the end, we all realize that although there may be physical differences between us and Somethings found on Mars, everybody is really human at heart and we should all love each other.

I want the pants.

I will wear them at social events.

Mirage is my favorite deluxe Classic figure by far. I'm not going to use any "best" or "worst" sort of terms, but he's definitely the one I like the most.

Some official Hasbro entries for movie figures:

So, I went to our other Toys Us on the other side of town. I found titanium Soundwave in his Saddam undies. I didn't get him. But if you guys are looking they have 2 left and I can grab one tomorrow.

As someone not attending Botcon, getting this guy along with the 4 figures he comes with would cost over 300 dollars

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH

Funny, they finally do a decent sculpt for the 3 inch Titanium line and it's on a movie design :(

Are these figures transformable at all? The transformation in the trailers really looks complicated. It will be really difficult to make transformable toys. :(

There are transformable figures being made for the movie line, but that Bumblebee Ktulu just posted isn't one of them.

Yay, I did it!

Bumblebee
"This spy looks best
in a smart disguise.
He will always back
his earth friends."

Starscream
"First to a fight, he
tries to speed thru
the sky to jump
into the battle"

If Prime's head really looked like that it'd be a lot better probably. The artist stylized it a bit more. It's mostly the eyes, traditional there rather than the strange jet turbine thing.

THE PERFECT JOKE GIFT FOR TK'S BIRTHDAY LATER THIS YEAR

Clearest shot so far of Jazz's head. Best one of all the characters imo, but the face is still crummy looking. At least the visor/helmet part looks alright

Way to transform Energon/Classics Devastator without the energon hands/feet. Looks a little better to me.

Frank Welker has stated that Corey Burton (G1 voice of Spike, Brawn, Sunstreaker, and Shockwave, as well as tons of things in other cartoons, especially for Disney, he's the current Captain Hook for example) will be the next cartoon voice for Megatron.

Lols, the repaint non-movie character gets a better head than the real deal

TK
04-22-2007, 03:03 AM
still a pretty shitty head though.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy
04-22-2007, 03:04 AM
Much better than before though. Aside from the mouth you can tell they at least wanted it to kind of look like the seeker characters.

I think Burton as Megatron will be cool, he's really good.

TK
04-22-2007, 05:56 AM
I guess it is much better, but it's kind of like how getting your face peed on by a donkey is a lot better than being drawn and quartered. imo.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy

If they'd totally done it up in a more proper TF fashion the toy wouldn't fit with the rest of the movie line, they had to keep the crazy monster/bug aesthetic to some degree for the sake of that.

I assume. That renders the Energon repaints coming out in the movie line completely useless if true, so I'm probably wrong.

Grey legs = shorts

http://www.buzznet.com/groups/stopsectorseven/audio/5565607/

That apparently may be Starscream's voice in the movie, though that hilariously stock sound at the end makes me suspicious. I'm not shooting it down entirely though, pretty much every other damn rumor about this movie has turned out true.

One Mile Ahead

*ahem* Transformers is and always was little more than a toy advert. A substantial body of evidence for this can be found in the 60 pages of this very thread. The movie is another cynical attempt by Hollywood to cash in on old, established franchises and this new film has been hyped so much that it seems clear to me the producers will be far too occupied in making sure that as many people watch it as possible -- old fans and current kids -- that they will fail to please either group. *Ahem*
