I don't really get most of the Transfromers as humans stuff I see. Of course most of it is yaoi in my in box from the 2 TF clubs I'm in on Devant art but it still don't make no sense. It's human versions which have no physical traits of the robot characters that are doing things that are completely out of character, it soooo removed from the original source that I don't get how anyone would enjoy something like that or feel the need to create it.

Party pooper

In lulz movie news, even though TF3 set pictures show Skids/Mudflap's cars around, Michael Bay has stated they're not in the movie, just like he said Megatron isn't in the movie after the concept art for the ROTF toy was leaked way early. Uh huh.

The fun had with Bay's awful attempts at "misinformation" are the fans that actually...do fall for it. I remember even after the Megatron toy pictures

I think the only human Transformers sexytime art I've seen had Starscream about to get it on with a very clearly female Bumblebee. I see gay Robot art all the time though. But yeah, the whole point of art like that (to me) is to try to keep them looking as much like themselves as you can while changing their design. At a certain point it just becomes art that you're slapping a known character's name on to get people to look at it. This happens with fanfiction a lot too.

Not Optimus or a french maid but I have this in my Transformers folder~

Shia LaBeouf told The Associated Press that Transformers 3 "brings the heart back to the franchise." He starts working on the third installment on Tuesday.

The new script restores a human element that got lost in the second movie, LaBeouf said. "When I saw the second movie, I wasn't impressed with what we did," LaBeouf said at the Cannes Film Festival. "There were some really wild stunts in it, but the heart was gone."

Michael Bay returns for the third time as director of the science-fiction franchise, which centers on dueling races of giant robots that bring their war to Earth. The next movie will have what the last one lacked - a sense of human consequences, LaBeouf said.

On the second movie, "we got lost. We tried to get bigger. It's what happens to sequels. It's like, how do you top the first one? You've got to go bigger," LaBeouf said. "Mike went so big that it became too big, and I think you lost the anchor of the movie. ... You lost a bit of the relationships. Unless you have those relationships, then the movie doesn't matter. Then it's just a bunch of robots fighting each other."

With "Transformers 3," the toll of the robot war will be grave for our planet, LaBeouf said.

"There's going to be a lot of death, human death. This time, they're targeting humans," LaBeouf said. "It's going to be the craziest action movie ever made, or we failed."

From the sound of that, anyone thinking maybe the robots will actually be in the forefront this time will probably be disappointed :o

Well I mean, I don't think Michael Bay ever wanted to make a movie about robots, let alone a movie about the Transformers. He wanted a big budget action movie with lots of ~comedy~ and army stuff. I still haven't seen ROTF but the first movie makes it pretty clear that he doesn't care about the bot aspect in the slightest.

I guess that's the crux of why the popularity of Bayformers bothers me so much. I want to think Michael Bay is an idiot for not focusing on the actual Transformers more and that that's what audiences actually see, but people rave and rave over his movies and knowing that people really do want to see a lame action-comedy with robots in the background is depressing to me. :( Man, and I don't like being the sort of person who gets mad about what other people like either. Explosions and gunfire excite those that can tune out, regardless of the context, I guess. I always think back to the video review from "Bikertrashwolf" where he's literally looking into the camera with wide eyed amazement, asking how people could possibly not like the movie because it's SO KEWL.

But then the movie comes out and it's mostly about the human f-14 pilots flying alongside the t-rexes and when you do get to see the dinos in their jets, it's mostly in the background. But instead of saying, "hey man, this is a t-rex f-14 movie where are all the t-rexes" everyone says MAN KICK ASS I LOVE T-REXES WHAT AN AWESOME MOVIE. ; ;

Robin Williams is into video games for sure. He named his daughter Zelda :o He apparently likes to play snipers in shootin' games.

I haven't heard much about full on Transformers love from celebrities. Tom Hanks knew the old theme song kinda, and some enthusiastic fans elaborated on what that meant. It really doesn't mean he's a fan, he probably just remembered it from his kid watching the show when it was on.

I know some of those are true for sure, Tom. I've read interviews where Zac Efron (aka real life Light Yagami) talked about Death Note and Leonardo DiCaprio talked about Akira. Keanu is pretty obsessed with Cowboy Bebop from what I know, he's putting a ton of money into the live action movie. I think Christian Bales says he likes Miyazaki movies on the Howl's Moving Castle dvd and I feel like I've read Kayne West talking about anime too.

As a Metallica fanboy I know their lead guitarist Kirk Hammett is a huge comic, anime, manga, and toy nerd. Loves horror and sci-fi as well. When the band first started getting their giant earnings somewhere around 86/87 one of the first things he did was buy a bunch of vintage Batman stuff. His favorite comic character is apparently The Spectre.

They have a tour website with videos of their backstage goings on, like meeting the fans and rehearsals. During one of the meet and greets a few years ago a Japanese fan gave him some Fist of the North Star stuff and he got super excited.

It's just something we have to do. Like a car crash, you just can't look away. No matter how much we joke about giving up on the movie franchise (and no matter how bad it is--and it is insanely bad), Ktulu and I are gonna see it.

You probably will too, is my point.

The only way that Megan Fox not being in it would improve anything is if she wasn't going to be in it because this installment of the movies wasn't going to focus as much on the humans. That's pretty much the only thing that could get me to see it, anyway.

I am curious about what went down, though. The film is in preproduction and she'd already been seen on set, so I don't think it's just that Bay was mad over her remarks. It's going to cost the studio a lot of time and money recasting a new girl, rewriting the script, promoting the new girl as the next big thing, paying Megan out of her contract if she had one, etc, so it must've been something pretty huge. Even if she was the one that quit, something must've happened to push her over the edge when things were so far along.

First thing comes to mind is she was starting to miss out on better movie jobs and just quit, heck Toby Maguire & Kristin Dunst where starting to get bored with the spider-man movies becosue they wanted to do other projects and spidy seems like it's a blast to make.

They always do this with things, Tying things into the crappy and stupid stuff while ignoring and retconing everything that came before simply because the worse stuff is new and hip and fresh and appeals to today's cool and trendy audience who, can't be bothered with older material because it's lame and out of date and you can only like it ironically*.

Take Star Wars as an example.

The only news about the third that excites me so far is that Bay intends to call it quits there...so maybe in 2-3 years the franchise can finally move out of these movies' shadow. However, even that could easily end up changing after the movie inevitably makes a billion dollars :(

Marceline
06-12-2010, 03:53 PM
I've noticed that the general opinion on both Transformers movies seemed to get a lot more negative around the time that each movie came out on dvd? Are the effects that distracting? I don't get it, I think the way Bay films them is AWFUL and it seems hard to even appreciate the coolness of the giant robots with things like swirly cam in the way.

A part of me hopes that Transformers 3 will bomb, (and I feel like a jerk about it) but even though I don't think that'll happen, I think it grossing a lot less than the second one is a very real possibility. I just want Bayformers to be over and done with so it can stop taking over everything Transformers related.

The popularity of quick reboots right now makes me hopeful that they'll do a Transformers reboot a few years after Bay is done with it. I am hoping something good will come out of its success too, and we'll get some other live action giant robot movies made (by people who like giant robots aka not Michael Bay). It seems like this is such an easy thing to make awesome. Somebody has to do it.

Tom Toonami Tunes

Well the Voltron movie is still kinda on, power rangers is getting renewed, Peter Jackson wants to produce along side with VIZ a live action Evangelion trilogy which wouldn't have been posable if not for the success of bayformers, there's a battle ship Yamato laive action movie being made (I've never seen the orginal show so it moght not even have robots but I thought I'd mention it.).

Lunchbox McGillicuddy

Poor Sonic

Early on, the movie eyes were still gonna be typical Transformer eyes, as seen in the top left. If they'd kept that and toned down the thousand-shards o'metal bodies, the ugly levels could have been far diminished. Maybe it's my bias as an older fan but those eyes look so much better. Just compare the top one to the uncolored one right below it. The big round ones they settled for make them look crazed, even monstrous.

Tom Toonami Tunes
06-13-2010, 08:17 PM
There is so much you could do with a huge budget and time to developt the artwork. They could have made most of them have similar looking faces if htey wanted and in later movies as they get upgrades and are patchwork repaired from battle they could star to be more indavidual looking to match their characters being developted.

Like Mr. Plinket said in his reviews of the Star Wars prequels sometimes super detail isn't always best, the scene with 10 namless jedi and 200 CGI clones fighting 1000 cgi robots with never be as suspenseful as the simple scenes of Leia, Lando, & Chewy being chased through cloud city by 10 stormtrooers while they try to save Han.

If even one neat movie or franchise comes out of Bayformer's success I will have a lot more peace when it comes to its existence.

Getting an Eva movie done right is a long shot, pre-existing franchise, 3/4 of the main characters are children, Asuka & most of Seele are the only white people (personally I don't care about Ristuko so she can be changed and if they got ian McKellen to play Fuyuski? and Hugh Laurie or Michael Ironside as Gendo that's be sweet even though I now there must be a Japanese actor who'd be perfect as Gendo. But Shinji, Rei & Misato HAVE to be Japanese.), it gets very navel gazing at times, the content while handled more or less responsibility is still very depressing, sexual, and violent and the people with teh money might not want to see 14 year olds go through those things in one of their movies, and of course the ending.

But I can be patient and hopful. Maybe if Scott Pilgrim is succsessful and if the popularity of comic book stuff and transfromers makes anime the new well to tap we get a FLCL movie.

Tanis

Don't forget 'Kick-Ass' had a kid doing some messed up stuff, and it did rather well.

Tom Toonami Tunes
06-14-2010, 06:37 AM
But half the fun (as well as the point with it being a twisting of Mega themed anime) is that they're 14. Like the whole Shinji and Misato dynamic, it's sweet and inocent but also very very wrong but very few people actually chare about them so it's the best thing they've got.

How detailed is the create a bot in multiplayer? Is it just color scheme or can you add stuff like crests, chest plates, shoulder pads, mouthpieces and the like?

Transformers: War For Cybertron (NDS) isn't too bad.
It's nothing amazingly ground breaking, but it's kind of fun.

The whole 'switch characters because some bad guys have weakness you can exploit' is kind of cool.

I hope to get the PC version working and see how it holds up.

piranacon?!! wow where did they dig him up?!! he was hard to find back in the day!! I wonder does it have all six seacons. If i remember the six one was the gun. making him a targemaster or someting like that. Is he part of the new Generastions lineup or some expensive "exclusive"?

Lunchbox McGillicuddy
06-25-2010, 03:16 PM
All 6 are there. The one that was left out of the old boxset (Nautilator) is his right leg in the package.

The molds were first reused in the 90s in Japan as God Neptune () for Beast Wars II, and then for a Collector Club exclusive Piranacon in wacky colors () about two years ago, so they've been floating around a while. This release is not exactly the same as G1, the colors are slightly different, but not drastically.

I'm sure we'll find out where it's being released over the weekend.

I went looking for the other two Generations toys I don't have yet, Drift and Thrust, since they've been showing up all over the place at TRU stores. My TRU is of course a 30-45 minute drive. Lawl. I usually never go there to look for something specific, it seems silly. It's not a terrible drive by any means but it's still out of the way. I bent the rule, and of course, it bit me in the ass, they didn't have anything :(

Maybe they'll spread to other stores soon enough.

Lunchbox McGillicuddy

Apparently even PCC has been seen at retail, along with the new movie-ish yellow package series.

So most of the news at Botcon has been underwhelming today. Not much in the way of new toys announced. We did get to see Generations Blurr however:

It looks pretty good to me. I wish the head was based more on the G1 design than the beefed up IDW one, but overall it's a lot better than the Cybertron version () most people had to use as their "Classics" Blurr till now.

One interesting this is that the 2011 Collector Club "freebie" is a RiD Sideburn redeco of Classics Rodimus. I'm not saying they stole my idea, hell, someone else might have done it even before me, but last April I did that as a digibash:

So it's kind of a cool thing for me that one is really being made. I'll definitely try to get one. I wonder if it'll even be close to mine.

Lawl, live coverage about toys.

Some highlights:

Generations will include:

Skullgrin (http://www.tfu.info/1988/Decepticon/Skullgrin/skullgrin.htm) redeco/remold of Straxus/Darkmount, will have the crazy skull-head.
Tracks, complete with goofy flying car mode.
Jazz w/ deploying speakers that even work in bot mode, reminiscent of the G1 cartoon.
Perceptor - truck like vehicle like Animated Perceptor, w/ Reflector redeco/remold.
Scourge - white stealth jet, silhouette is like the G1 soap dish hovercraft.
Thunderwing (http://www.tfu.info/1989/Decepticon/Thunderwing/thunderwing.htm) - with a drone similar to the original's jet mode. One of my most wanted Classics updates :D
G1 Legends-class Optimus, Starscream, Prowl, and Megatron (turns into a gun), all with rub symbols.
WFC Cliffjumper confirmed (we already knew because Bumblebee's instructions show the Cliffjumper head, lawl)

Also of note:

Yellow box scout-class Windcharger, very G1, like a Classics toy
Grapple remold of Universe 2.0 Inferno, with a new head and crane attachment.
"Realistic" version of Animated Lugnut, closer to Classics aesthetic, may be redone as Jhiaxus.
A new Kup is coming in the near future.
Powercore Combiner Dinobots.
Movie-ish Hailstorm is getting an Autobot repaint/remold based on G2 Mindset.
Movie-ish Brawn is getting an Outback (http://www.tfu.info/1986/Autobot/Outback/outback.htm) repaint.

And there was also concept art of some of "the original 13" which was a bit mysterious, but something they intend to reveal over time.

Otherwise, it was the usual non-committal "we'd like to do this/that" stuff, one remark being in reference to revisiting Beast Wars.

A lot of those Generations toys sound awesome to me. Generations can officially be considered a continuation of Classics imo. I wasn't sure they were really going to put that much into it at first.

Just bought myself War for Cybertron Prime & Bee. Messed around with Prime...kind of complex transformation. Will have to play around with it a bit more later after work. Also picked up Power Core Combiner Smolder just to see what it's like. Not bad. Simple and minicon is cool in its own right. What else...oh yeah and Animated Cybertron mode Ratchet. It's okay. It's pretty good. I still have a lot of issues with it. Some characters I really wanted to play as only showed up in like 1 level each. The story is really simplistic, but that works for it. It's fuggen Shakespeare compared to Bay. The levels are monotonous and just boring to look at. This makes the collection system meaningless to me. I have no desire to explore these levels to find emblems, because they are beyond mehtastic to be in. It's really short. REALLY short.

I'm glad I rented it. It's worthwhile for the couple hours it takes to beat it, but I cannot fathom owning it. I will never want to play this again.

The multiplayer feels like every other multiplayer game, which to me is not very compelling. I know it is to a lot of people, though. I'm sure co-op is awesome. The banter between the characters in your squad is great. Megs has the greatest lines ever.

After transforming WFC Prime, I gotta say that was pretty complex for a deluxe size figure. Still haven't even opened up Bee yet. Will probably do that in a minute or so. Did play around with PCC Smolder. I like it a lot. Kind of sad that hes the only Decepticon in that initial wave. Otherwise I'm sure I'll get more just to build a bot of sorts.

Animated Cybertron mode Ratchet is a lot nicer than I thought. Initially I was going to pass on it since I had the other one but this one was done better than I thought. Still don't care for the Cybertronian mode but still love the old medic.

I think I'm satisfied with Transformers for the time being. Only other ones I want right now is Drift & possibly Thrust. Otherwise gonna hold off till they're wide spread.

I don't think he was intended to be red, it was just the test shot colors. Sometimes they're wacky. Pink and green, all brown, whatever. They named him Ironhide in Japan so they can shoehorn the series into movie continuity. Takara loves doing that. If you want to see the most convoluted shit ever, look into their version of what exactly fits under G1 and how. It's a headache.
