I read about half of that and quit. The guy just sounds like a douchebag to me, and I don't trust anyone who can't recognize how much Michael Bay movies suck.
I had to force myself to read the entire thing. The guy definitely had no idea what the hell he was talking about half the time, but he did manage to put enough in there about the way the movie was being handled to confirm that it was going to be a typical Michael Bay shitfest.

bwtf.com has reviews of Classics Optimus, Rodimus, and Bumblebee up. Their sizes are interesting...Optimus is just barely bigger than the original toy, Rodimus is smaller than the original Hot Rod, and Bumblebee is way bigger than expected. Still, great toys it seems.
Awesome. I want these so much. The sizes seem fine to me. It is a little weird to have Bumblebee as big as he is, but it's okay with me. I'm all in favor of not having Optimus be gigantic. I actually prefer versions of him that don't dwarf all the other figures.
He lists the releases of these figures as September. Is this because he got his hands on them now, or are they actually coming out this early? I'd been under the impression they weren't coming out until November.

There's a couple online retailers stocking them (and selling them at exhorbitant prices) but I don't think they have been doing so long enough for this guy to have ordered one that way.

I still can't accept Ultra Magnus getting blown to bits and being totally repairable but every other guy that died basically only suffered some laser wounds. Even the two above look like they only got their chest armor fucked over, but they're still in tact! Prime, the strongest Autobot outside of the Dinobots, Omega Supreme and the combiners died from shots in the side and some punches, and Brawn, worst of all, dies from a fucking shoulder wound. WHAT. It's so goofy :( The only death that really seems legit when considering the Ultra Magnus thing is Ironnide since he took Megatron's fusion cannon to the face, and Prime's death is fine because at least they had him go out admirably. The whole "get all these characters out of the way because their toys are old now" shit really screwed over the series afterwards, robbing it of lots of great characters. From the movie on it was like "hey check out these new characters you will see five times at most, they're cool, buy the toys!" What's even worse is how many characters just totally disappear. Only bad thing about the movie imo.
Yes, of course I agree with this. I do appreciate the fact that they were willing to kill characters off (even if it was just to bring new ones in to sell new toys), and I don't even mind the ones they chose to do it with, but it would have been nice if the ones they didn't kill had been kept around, especially since Blurr and Wheelie were so annoying and they turned Grimlock into a goofball comedy relief attempt.
But, eh, what can you do.

If you're a mighty TK you can strive to become a great writer with the ultimate power of suggestion and remake everything all ultra awesome like :(
haha. Given the opportunity, I would readily write a remake of the original series, but I have a funny feeling that, on the off chance I was ever somehow in a position to do so, Hasbro and I would not see eye to eye for several reasons, especially that I'd want Optimus to stay dead (though I've thought of a way sort of around this, which would involve him reappearing frequently in the Matrix to advise Rodimus, + a storyline based on the hate plague that would involve him making a brief return to set things right, just not a permanent one... but yeah, I don't know if that would cut it.)
Tbh though I think what I would enjoy doing most is writing an entirely new series that combines the elements I like from every continuity... which is exactly what I am planning to do. There are so many transformers storylines I want to see happen I decided to just do it myself. It's basically gonna be G1 meets Beast Wars with characters from a variety of continuities and trace comic story elements mixed in.

Obi-Wan/Gandalf Prime sounds reasonable and I'm surprised they didn't do it that way to begin with.
I agree with you about a new series, obviously that'd be the most fulfilling.
News- TF Movie toys will be released June 2nd next year. Curious that they come out before the movie as I know Michael Bay is all "rarr their robot modes have to be a secret." Lollll I guess it doesn't matter since internets already ruined that.

Their sizes are interesting...Optimus is just barely bigger than the original toy
I realize how big that actually is though after I just saw this picture:
Despite having both of those toys I never realized just how tall the original Prime mold actually is. Pretty weird. I know Bendy Prime is a little squat but he's still deluxe sized and that's about the size I always thought of Original Prime as being for some reason.
Yeah, Optimus being a little taller than that is pretty much exactly where I think he ought to be. Most of the time I think they make him too big, which is one of the reasons why I like the supercon one so much.

I want that 3 pack if it's actually a good deal but I found no info on it ;(
Hey Ktulu, do you keep up with TF comics these days? Which ones are good? The only recent ones I've read have been the BW ones because, you know, it's Beast Wars. But they were kinda disappointing I thought. ;(
I was flipping through Infiltration and it seemed like there were too many humans + I wasn't super keen on the way they were drawn (the TFs looked great though, when they were actually there.) I dunno if I should start catching up on this stuff or just start buying Strangers in Paradise TPBs instead
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
09-24-2006, 01:05 AM
I'm sure there'll be other options than those exact toys in the 3 packs as well. I'm not sure of the price or what stores those are gonna show up in(probably Wal Mart or Target though) because Hasbro just released that picture with no information. All I know is they had two packs a while back for the price of one, so I imagine the 3 pack will probably top out at 20 if not less.
I don't really read the comics, but I follow them loosely and check out the artwork online. I'm interested in them but I've not expended any actual effort to buy any. I wasn't a fan the Dreamwave stuff and I'm glad IDW is doing the comics now.
The Hearts of Steel one is pretty neat to me if you want to check that out, it features Transformers in the industrial era rather than the present or future. It's a new series, only in it's 4th issue currently I believe. The Strombringer series by Simon Furman and Don Figueroa seems worthwhile too. It features lots of cool characters (Furman favorites it seems) like Bludgeon and Thunderwing.
I looked at hearts of steel and I think it just bugs me way too much to have them all in those forms. Actually, in general, I'm never all that big on out-of-continuity stuff—usually seems like wasted effort to me.
I only read a little of the Dreamwave stuff and it seemed... okay. I was never sure where I was supposed to be placing it though, like if it was supposed to tie in with the end of the Marvel comics or if it was just in some kind of amalgamation of stories and was assuming everyone could fill in the blanks. I have the first TPB but I don't think I'm ever going to bother to read the rest of it since it never got finished anyway.
I'll probably check out Stormbringer but I keep feeling like I should read Infiltration first since they technically are supposed to go together I think.
I think what I'm really yearning for is some kind of cohesiveness to tie things together. Like, I'd really like to see them somehow actually link the BW to present day comics and start to develop a larger world because there are so many continuities now, it just feels like it's getting kind of pointless to continue making them. They wrote the BW comics so that Maximals and Preds have vehicle forms originally on Cybertron and only developed beast modes for their war on earth, which seemed to be implied in the early episodes of the show before they figured out what was going on, but I was really hoping that would get corrected. There's no point in having them be descended from Autobots & Decepticons, and giving them animal-related titles if their alt modes are all vehicles. :/ BUT the point all this was leading up to was, I think it does at least present the opportunity for them to link the continuities. BW was supposed to follow G1 and since Infiltration is essentially a "reset" they could pull this off gloriously.

Haha ok then, I just thought they looked cool.
I think the DW stuff was meant at first to kind of cover what happened before G1 Season 2 and the movie but quickly moved into a stand alone sort of thing.
I agree that new continuities are going to keep coming and a lot of them will probably end up unfinished, especially in the comics. I'm sure there'll be cohesiveness to a lot of the IDW stuff within itself as time passes, assuming they continue being published. Still, just like you see with the upcoming movie and almost every post-G1 Japanese series, it seems Transformers brings out the "oh this is a great concept, let me put my spin on a new version of the story" vibe in most writers and I doubt it'll ever change.
I think it's not completely unwelcome though. I used to be upset anytime a comic would restart, like say you have 400 issues of Spider-Man or whatever then all of a sudden next month is Vol. 2 number 1 and everything is erased, but I later realized that it's almost necessary to keep things fresh. Trying to juggle decades of continuity is probably incredibly taxing, and limiting, on writers and the stories could suffer. As a 20 year old property, Transformers shouldn't really have much of a problem with that, but I guess with all of the different continuities there already are, and the apparent open attitude from Hasbro to allow new spins all the time, will help avoid it in the future, and it'll be easier for more and more people to latch on when becoming a fan doesn't require years of catch up.
ooooooh. so it's right after season 1? that's interesting. But it only works if it's not supposed to then continue into season 2, since sparkplug dies and all.
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
09-24-2006, 01:44 AM
I'm not really sure, I just believe their initial intent was to cover the gap of time before the movie but it seems to have been dropped really quickly. Perhaps it wasn't even meant as an official continuation of season 1 or 2, but more of a "what if" situation?
I'm guessing that's the case because I think it's in like the first or second issue that Sparkplug is dead. It doesn't even happen in the comic, it's part of the backstory.

MarvinStraight - lots of people have complained of Megatron's quality so I'm not surprised.
I am fearful that the 6" titaniums are generally just not very good. =(
I'm sure it's not soundwave.
I don't think it's soundwave either (it doesn't have the look of a classics figure imo and I seriously doubt they'd waste such a character on a goofy mold like that), but just because the bot hasn't been seen before doesn't rule it out completely.
Anyway like I said, I doubt it, but one never knows. They sort of effed up Megatron pretty bad imo so I'm wary of new lifesize item TFs now. Whatever they do with Soundwave, I know he's not going to be a tape deck anymore, so I've been sort of crossing my fingers ever since they announced him and this mostly just made me jump with renewed paranoia.

The pictures at 16bit.com don't look as bad as the one I just posted, I think that one looked so bad because of the insanely bright lighting. Still, it's definitely not nearly as crisp as the Rodimus mold, which is really weird. I'm getting one anyway, I know it'll look better in person, to a degree, and if not it wouldn't be hard to fix him up some.
I'm getting one too, definitely. I will be sad if it's not sharp though. =(
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
09-27-2006, 05:18 AM
If it's really dull, I'm going to be painting the face black then going over it a rich grey and it should help the details come out a lot. The problem aside from the plastic is the dull ass grey that the mold is cast in. As long as the face is sharp enough that's all I really care about it. I could always give the rest of it a wash to help bring the details out if it's really bad, though I'd be afraid of going over board.

"Design Decisions" Hasbro Panel
Photo Gallery:
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v630/BlackstarRequiem/
News from the panel:
The original prototype for Energon Prime would've cost 80 dollars at retail.
Alternators is being put on hold for most of next year.
KISS Play Hot Rod is not going to be released in America in the Alternators line.
One of Hasbro's designers always makes a Prime design with a giant gauntlet and axe, so that may happen one day.
Classics Megatron was meant to be black red and silver but it couldn't happen with how strict the rules are about toy guns.
Classics Cosmos was designed but won't be released as he has been deemed not a popular enough character by marketing.
Classics Arcee was considered but is probably not happening.
The Mudflap repaints shown were not optioned after they reviewed the original figure's sales.
The new Beast Wars 10th Primal and Megatron were designed for the Cybertron line first, thus their cyber planet keys.
A nonconventional combiner will be released in Classics.
Titanium will have more designs from the comics, Dreamwave and IDW both. Hearts of Steel were mentioned as a possibility.
Hasbro has recognized the poor quality of Titanium Optimus and Megatron and are retooling them for an upcoming 2 pack.
MP Starscream was Hasbro's idea so it'll probably get a U.S. release for sure.
In the Voice Actors Panel, Scott McNeil said they're already working on the next Transformers cartoon, the one produced in America.
More to come, today was just the first day

where in the US are you going to be
Also: I'm probably going to stop by Toys R Us tomorrow and see what can be seen. If I find Classics, expect nifty pictures!
That classics Magnus is... ok I guess. I'm glad they at least used a lot of blue in his robot mode instead of making him too white. But I am still royally pissed off about him being another Optimus repaint. I am officially praying for a Titanium 6" that does the job as well as the Rodimus one appears to.
Basically for classics so far I think I am getting: Optimus, Optimus/Megs 2 pack (just for the Megs, so if they come out individually I'll just get that), Hot Rod, Bumblebee, Astrotrain, Starscream, Jetfire, Ramjet, Grimlock. HELLO WALLET PAIN. I haven't decided yet whether to get the voyager Megatron. The purple, and the orange stoppers, and his eyebrows and the bright green and just his having wings in the first place all bother me enormously. I'm not opposed to new design decisions (I have no problem with Optimus's doors hanging off his arms, or his "fake grill"), I just think these particular ones all look horrible. But I might consider getting one and messing around with it to try to give it a real G1 Megatron look.
Also: There are BW toys at Botcon this year that seem to further the direction the IDW BW comic was going, by giving them cybertronian vehicle modes but retaining their BW personalities and titles. "Waspinator" is a green jet. "Tigatron" is a car. It just doesn't make sense. X_X

Oorrrr, TK can come up here, we can all go to a Metro show sometime when it won't suck and then we can go shopping up here. You haven't been here in awhile I take it?
Those mexicans put new buildings up in a week flat, business is booming. So much shit to do nowadays.
When I was a kid, we used to shoot each other in the ass with a paintball gun and call it fun. Now we can go to the second largest Wal-Mart on the east coast and stay there overnight. It's fun as hell, play all the music demos, game demos, nap on the futons, and play with the toys. Fucking hilarious...and when we're hungry just buy whatever we want on the otherside of the building. I used to get lost that place is so fucking big.
It sounds like a plan!
Also, funnily enough, I was just lamenting the lack of an original G1 Ultra Magnus figure, and then I just read this on seibertron.com's reports about botcon: "Don Figueroa, who spoke of a reworked, less floppy transforming Titanium War Within Optimus Prime, possibly in a future two-pack with a reworked Megatron. Don also teased us with word of a new non-repaint G1 Ultra Magnus toy that will transform without having to remove his armor."
HOLLY CRAP PLZ LET THIS BE TRUE
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
09-30-2006, 06:04 AM
Hasbro gets Don to do a lot of designs for them so I'm sure it's highly possible. They also did the same thing for Titanium RiD Prime, he transforms from vehicle to super mode, skipping the smaller robot mode without armor entirely.
Forgot to add this bit to the news I posted:
The Movie designs aesthetic will be unique to it and will not affect any other part of the TF property, so it won't be like the X-Men comics changing to coincide with the look of the movie when it first came out.
Also, about that Cosmos, Aaron Archer said they're still considering it if the Classics products sell well enough.
What the fuck? hahahaha
tbh, Ultra Magnus, in my mind, still doesn't even have any "armor." I've never been willing to accept that.
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
09-30-2006, 02:19 PM
I don't think the character was originally meant as "white Prime in armor" at all, it was just a technicality of the toy, but Dreamwave ruined that :(
It's... eh. I'm not going to complain, because I didn't think I was going to get this at all. But the proportions aren't so hot, and I don't understand why the raised parts on his shoulders are like a foot long. I'd like to see it in vehicle mode, to see if there is at least some justification for the wonky proportions.
Also, after today, I am convinced that there are no classics yet anywhere on the entire east coast. >=/
EDIT: looking at that Magnus again, I'm pretty sure that the missiles on top of his shoulders can be removed and put on the sides like in the original. If so, that is actually pretty damn cool. I still really wish that his arms were not pushed back so far from his head though.
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
10-01-2006, 12:30 AM
Should I bother posting any of the news from today? I slept til now so I guess you saw everything before I did :o
Yeah, the problem with Magnus is his arms being pushed back so far, it looks ok otherwise.
It's weird though, compared to all the care it looks like they put into Rodimus. He just doesn't seem like the same level of attention was given. =(
Yeah, today's news was mostly not that exciting to me, but there were a few notable things:
"+ Where is Classic Soundwave? Because they are doing the reissue it didn’t make sense to do another."
BOO. I thought they'd already announced this? Eff you, Hasbro, of course it makes sense. I want a Soundwave to fit in with my other classics. Not to mention one that isn't a million billion dollars. >=O
"+ If the market does well and they come back to Classics we will likely see Cosmos, Jazz, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker."
Good, but needs more Decepticons as well. (LIKE A CLASSICS SOUNDWAVE DAMN IT)
"+ MP Starscream by Hasbro? - If they do it will have original colors."
Good! Do it!
Aaaaaand finally I'm disappointed about Devastator. =( But oh well, classics is already so good.
BUT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD IT NEEDS FUCKING SOUNDWAVE
It's gonna suck when the movie line is taking up a bunch of the shelf space/production time. =/
EDIT: I can't figure out who <a href=

Lunchbox McGillicuddy

The Soundwave reissue is 30 bucks surprisingly, I figured it'd be more. I also thought they announced a new Soundwave for Classics too, but I guess it got changed to the reissue.
Classics may have a movie-esque Galvatron at least. I agree about more Decepticons though.
About Devastator, while it is too bad it's just a repaint of the Energon one, it's cool that it's a gift set, which is a nice nod to the G1 gift sets of old.
The figure you're asking about is The Fallen from The War Within, supposedly one of the "first 13 transformers."
The thing about the Magnus arms, they could've engineered it so they simply push forward to be closer to the chest. That sort of thing has been done a hundred times on other toys, why not him?
I'm going to pretend that it's... umm... a... prototype. Or something.
Damn it. ;_;

I'm disappointed that Cliffjumper is just a Bumblebee clone, but I expected it. It doesn't look bad, I just stupidly hoped for a different head at least.
Botcon 2007 is the weekend before the movie comes out in Rhode Island. I wonder if there's any way I can make it, haha. DOUBTFUL.
If they do those on the short list of possible Classics out of the way and make more, the Decepticons I'd want are: Insecticons 3 Pack, Cyclonus, Shockwave, and Blitzwing. They really deserve cool new toys :(
As for Autobots, Ironhide and Ratchet need new toys more than almost any other character imo, plus they'd just need one body with different heads and sirens for Ratchet. It'd be so easy.

An hour drive for Transformers. I think I've been a bad influence on you.
More or less, yeah. I would have done the same thing in a heartbeat back when Beast Wars was coming out, only I couldn't drive back then... you helped reignite the spark by drawing my attention to the fact that they are making ones I like again (I had hated Beast Machines, and been mostly uninterested in RiD and Armada, so I'd just kind of quit and forgotten about it for a long time.)
Thing is, I wouldn't do this for just anything... classics are like the greatest thing ever to me. I've been itching to get my hands on them for way too long now. I'm usually only this impatient about really great new pop punk records.
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
10-02-2006, 02:54 AM
Well that's cool. At least it's not a problem with you. I can honestly say I put way too much worth in these damn things, sometimes I think about all the money I've thrown at my collection and it gets to me a little, but still, I continue :o
Eh, that's basically the way I am, it's just that my obsessions are so spread out over records and CDs, movies, books, transformers, comic books... uh I think that's it. So yeah, I get that same thing. I keep wanting to know exactly how much money I have spent on collecting stuff. I'm sure it is a horrible number.
I kind of like it like that though. I should figure out some other things to obsessively collect so I can collect everything but master nothing.

What could've been
Someone fixed up Movie Prime's head, the fixed one is on the left. I'd actually be fairly happy if it looked like that rather than the shit official version. It sucks when "everyday people" can out design ILM with some simple Photoshop work.
This one shows the main problem is the eyes. Just having glowing blue eyes in place of the weird human-esque jet turbine thing they came up would've saved it from looking so dopey. It wouldn't be as good as the slight redesign above, but it'd still be better than what we're getting, sadly.
What's even sadder is there's plenty of time to redesign all the eyes to just glow blue/red like the cartoons, but it won't happen.
Yeah. I think just about anybody who likes Transformers could have come up with a superior design, to be honest. I've given up completely on the movie, and now I'm just in bitter mode that it's going to waste so much toy shelf. It's gonna be like, oh yay, classics, and then poop, suddenly it's all gone and we get stupidbots instead. HELLO BEAST MACHINES ALL OVER AGAIN

I'm still hoping (foolishly) that given the crazy transformations, the toys will be simpler, and possibly a bit more sleek and actual "Transformer" looking than their film counterparts accordingly.
You are right though, the market's gonna be flooded with movie crap, and it's already had a negative effect, such as the Alternators hiatus, which may possibly result in the complete cancellation of the line.

So, crazy story!
Reports are that Boscov's is the only place to get classics so far in eastern PA (or the only one I've found reports of their being found in.) So I called the local Boscov's and they said they didn't have them. So I called the next closest one to me, which is about 40-50 minutes away from me, and talked to a lady who said they did have them. She told me yes they had the new ones and she was all, "Oh yeah, we have them, they're meant to be like the old ones. I remember them." So I'm all happy! So I drive out there today and find that Boscov's lady was either lying or stupid. WANT TO KILL BOSCOV'S LADY.
Then, as I'm walking out of Boscov's, a strange thing happens: I look across the street and lo and behold there is a Toys R Us right across the street, that I had no idea was there. My local TRU didn't have classics but I figured what the hell, I'm here so I might as well give it a shot and see if I get lucky. So I go in the TRU and what do I find? No classics! But I did find a Cybertron Soundwave, which I'd been wanting and hadn't found a single one of at any local stores at all. I'd pretty much assumed I was going to have to ebay for it at some later date since Cybertron is coming to an end, so this was really convenient.
So the moral of the story is: Sometimes when things don't go as planned, you still get something good out of them anyway, even if it's not what you wanted the most. This guy should help diminish my sadness at not having a classics Soundwave, even if he can't erase it altogether.

Here's something I just learned from Wikipedia
Transformers: Classics (2006)
In the 2006/2007 line which features Generation 1 characters in updated forms, Hot Rod (now called Rodimus due to trademark reasons) is in the first wave of Autobots along with Optimus Prime and Bumblebee.
I wanna learn more of this trademark problem.
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
10-05-2006, 09:05 AM
If you don't use trademarks after a period of time you lose them. Hasbro lost a lot of the TMs to G1 names, and other companies grabbed them (such as Toy Biz earning the right to the name Onslaught based after the X-Men comic character introduced in the mid 90s, though now that Hasbro has obtained the Marvel license it's possible we will see a Transformer named Onslaught again,) or in some cases the names have become considered so generic that they can't be TMed again. Jazz for instance has in recent years had to be called either "Autobot Jazz" or "Agent Meister" (Meister being his Japanese name) due to the loss of the Jazz trademark and the term subsequently becoming considered too generic to trademark. I'm not sure how they're handling the toy for the movie.
Hasbro is working to resecure as many of the lost names as they can though, such as Shockwave which they just recently recovered. The Shockwave homage released in Energon had to be called Shockblast due to them not having the original name anymore at that point.
HUZBZUAL
According to some auditions being held for the series, some of the first crew of characters are :
Optimus Prime
Megatron
Bumblebee
Ultra Magnus
Prowl
Starscream
All G1. Interesting. If it's true, Prowl and Magnus on the central autobot crew = ftw.
Almost sounds like they are doing a series based on classics or something, but that seems unlikely since they aren't even sure if it's going to have a full run ?_?
But I really don't get it. Unless there is another series coming out next to the movie one that will go with this show. Or... if the new show is based on the movie and then the movie toys tie into it? That would kinda suck. =/
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
10-05-2006, 01:37 PM
Aaron Archer said the movie won't influence anything else luckily, so as long as he wasn't BSing I don't think 'Heroes' will have anything to do with it.
Optimus, Megatron, and Starscream are guaranteed for any show, and the other three are probably in there due to popularity and keeping the names in use. I'm sure there'll be new characters in there.
I wouldn't assume anything at all just yet.
Also, that info could be wrong.
True, true. I'm not making any assumptions. But I would be pretty interested if they did make it go along with classics. It would be like a sequel to G1 or something! I think the characters they've released so far would be more or less perfect for such a thing. :O
And, incidentally, Cybertron Soundwave is actually even cooler than I'd hoped. I think he may be my favorite Cybertron figure now. I absolutely love how Lazorbeak can perch on his wings or his arm. Having him homage the original in the way he does is just spectacular. Plus, is it just me, or is he effin' huge for a voyager? I put him next to BW Rampage and he's just as big, despite Rampage being an ultra. Soundwave looks like he'd kick the shit out of Rampage in a split second.
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
10-05-2006, 02:00 PM
The toys seem to be getting a bit bigger over time but I don't remember that particular toy seeming bigger than normal, I'm sure you're right though.
Soundwave isn't my favorite from Cybertron but he's definitely close. I'm wondering if Hasbro will ever release the black repaint or not. It doesn't look like it though, at least not for the Cybertron line.
Yeah I'm guessing no since they seem to be closing Cybertron down. But who knows for the future.
You know what would be cool? If they'd made a Ravage to go with Soundblaster instead of another Lazorbeak. It's the only thing this Soundwave is missing.
Also:
Soundwave isn't my favorite from Cybertron but he's definitely close.

Hard to say, but probably Cybertron Defense Red Alert, Sideways or Optimus. I don't know though, maybe just Optimus! It's hard to say I like any of them more than this beauty:
It goes without saying though that I like pretty much the whole line. Backstop is a bit shit but the character was one of the few good parts of the show so I can forgive the Happy Meal quality the toy has.
Optimus is definitely amazing. He is the only Cybertron toy larger than voyager that I've even gotten.
I actually like him better not in super mode though~

I still need to get Wing Saber to hook up with him, it looks cool judging from the pictures. I haven't seen that one in any store yet though, despite it being out for months. Blah.
I forgot Primus, that toy's detailing is absolutely nuts. I just don't like the alternate mode being Cybertron itself, or that they made it smaller than the Unicron toy, but it's still cool as hell.

Oh man, this is all kinds of awesome.
I wish i still collected these :(
No you don't, Denny. Trying to get ahold of TFs in the UK is an agonizing process, or so I hear.
Also Ktulu, yeah, I actually never saw a single Wing Saber anywhere either. I wish that two pack of him and Optimus hadn't been a costco exclusive because costco is one of those dumb things where you have to have a $50 membership. The damn thing was basically the price of a Wing Saberit was like getting a free Optimus! wtf.
Primus is cool and all but he never really appealed to me enough for me to spend 50 bucks on him. I never like the robot mode of TFs that are that big (Optimal Optimus being an exception, only I think he is a little smaller). And yeah I didn't like the idea of Cybertron being a transformer in and of itself either. I'd take one if I found it on clearance or something maybe.

Says everyone who lives in the UK and collects transformers.

Glad to see you figured out Soundwave's neck piece right TK, a lot of people screw it up. Also, cool picture, I didn't know you had quite that many.
How does your mom or whoever you live with take to you spending money on these silly thigs? My mom never seemed to care, she "gets" the collecting thing because she used to throw money at Barbies, all kinds of Disney crap, and uh, all kinds of other crap too.
Some more Heroes News:
Optimus is supposedly a younger version than usual and a fire truck. Susan Blu is going to be the voice director again, so hopefully Beast Wars quality acting and casting can be expected.
Fire truck? Well there goes the classics idea!
This is fascinating. Perhaps a neat new toy line will be on the way after all. If it's good, that could help offset my annoyance at the movie line. Though having a "younger Optimus" sort of worries me that they are going to make it all Pokemon or something. Or make it so they are Transformers by night, and a teenage rock band by day!
And I actually have more TFs than that. Most of the rest of them are Beast Wars though. I had almost every character from the show, actually—the only ones I was missing were Waspinator, Terrorsaur, Blackaracknia, and De****harge. The first three I never got because I just didn't like their toys (although I did like TM2 Blackaracknia, so I still intend to get one of those someday), but I always wanted a De****harge and simply couldn't find one.
As it stands all my TFs so far are either Cybertron or BW, with Supercon Optimus being the one exception (my G1 figures were gotten rid of at some point =/). I'm planning to ebay for some older ones fairly soon, but tbh, I don't feel like I actually missed that much. There was only one figure out of the entire Beast Machines line that I liked, and RiD, Armada, and Energon were all mostly stuff I don't find that interesting, each having only a few figures I really feel like I want. So it shouldn't be too terribly hard to collect all the ones I really like. The only thing that sucks really is that I have to ebay for a Unicron now and I worry about the amount of money I'm gonna have to spend on it. >_> Oh and also, ever since I discovered its existence, I've always wanted one of those botcon Arcees. I wish that had gotten a real release. It was so cool.
As for my mom... she pretty much just doesn't question the way I spend my money. She gave up trying to stop me from collecting CDs, which was my first collection, and from then on she doesn't really say anything. Although she does actually think my interest in TFs is kinda cool. Once when I took a bunch down from my shelf she asked me kind of disappointedly where they all went.

Transformers: Rockmasters
TK you should try to get a picture of your whole collection.
Unicron should set you back a good bit unless you're willing to buy it loose. Also, tell me when you consider finally tracking it down and I'll try to help you get offers from some TF forums where they tend to charge a lot less than ebay sellers.
Are you talking about the BW Arcee?
That's cool about your mom. Like I said, I know my mom understands the whole collecting thing but I still wonder sometimes if she thinks I'm nuts for buying so much.
Yah, BW Arcee. I don't think I will ever have one of those. But you never know.
A whole collection photo probably isn't happening anytime soon since for the time being a lot of the old guys are in a box up in the top of my closet, and it's a pain in the ass to get it down. When I have some more space to do it in, I'm going to display them all, but for now they must remain in hybernation. (Though, for the record, it will not really be that much more spectacular that the photo I did put up. I've probably got like 30 or something.)
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
10-06-2006, 08:56 AM
I've never done a full collection picture because I don't have a decent camera plus I have no idea where I could display all of them in my tiny house :(
BW Arcee is going to cost lots. There's a lot of Botcon exclusives I wish I had, the Jetstorm as Cyclonus repaint or the RiD Megatron as Deathsaurus/Dezaras for example. They're just so expensive though :o
I do have a few, RiD Prowl repainted as Sideswipe, the Heroes of Cybertron Seeker 6 pack, and Shadowstriker/Roulette, two original female characters using RiD Sideburn's mold with new heads. Neat stuff.
Yeah, that's basically why I'm convinced I'll never have it. There's no way I'm going to spend the kind of money they go for. It's just not worth it.
Lunchbox McGillicuddy

I'm really tempted to repaint parts of it (like the orange cap) but after doing that with so many Armada figures and regretting "ruining them" despite them looking better I don't know if I can actually do it. I kind of like the idea of having them stay as is in perfect shape, and I feel painting on them ruins that in a way, even if improves the look.

I guess? Nice avatar dawg, I collect GI Joes too.
You can live vicariously through me Ktulu. This is my color plan:
In many cases, I agree with you about paint jobs, but in the case of Megatron, I dislike his original colors so much that I would derive no pleasure from having him if I didn't repaint him. So a paint job is the plan.
The boards are being weird and not loading it when I try to edit posts, so I'm gonna double post and merge 'em later:
If you happen to ever get a camera, you should post some pics of the repaints you have done. I would love to see them.

I've never done anything overly extensive, just adding apps here and there to break up the monotony. I did it mostly on Aramda figures, which had horribly plain production colors. I doubt you'd really find any of it interesting to be honest!
Here's my digi-recolor of Megatron, I think yours is better though:

Sales
Target - 7.88 deluxes and 10 percent off various others
Wal Mart - 7.88 deluxes
Toys R Us - (10/8-10/15) Free Cybertron Scout (basics) after you purchase a total of 20 dollars worth of Transformers
Well yours certainly looks more professional! mine was rather sloppy.
I'll probably go check those sales out but honestly I don't think those places have anything left that I want. I wish some substantial news about those deluxe 3-packs would come out.

It's worth it if you want them. I wouldn't get in the habit of buying TFs "just because" though, personally. I think BB and Astro look great (especially BB) but it all depends on how much you like them yourself.

Thanks for the offer. It's 30 bucks at TRU right? What shape was the package in? I typically only get them if the packages are in good condition.
Movie news from producer Tom Desanto:
Robot designs are still not final (BS to shut bitching fans up?)
Frank Welker is still "in the running"
Not final? The stupid thing is almost finished being shot, isn't it?

We now know who to blame for MP Starscream's colors.
Pretty crappy "interview" though.
waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaant.
I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes my favorite transformer when I get my hands on it.
I'll probably get Soundwave too, in an effort to stave off disappointment over no classics Soundwave, but I don't really like him very much due to the goofy leg design.
It's a shame, that makes two titaniums (Soundwave and Magnus) that look like they'd be completely badass if not for sloppy design flaws that make their robot modes look weak.
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
10-10-2006, 03:31 PM
Another thing, Soundwave's ultra crotch kinda bothers me.
Rodimus looks awesome except for that weird gap on his vehicle mode, but that's forgivable. I'm really of the "good robot mode first, good vehicle mode second" with these things anyway, and he's pretty good on both counts it seems.
As for that Magnus, I could only hope they'd change the damn arms to slide forward before release, but I know it probably won't happen.
Yeah, Soundwave's crotch is what I meant. Shoulda said crotch. That's what I hate about it... it looks like he's wearing training pants or something.
What gap in Rodimus's vehicle mode are you talking about? I'm not aware of any gaps :O
Lunchbox McGillicuddy
10-10-2006, 05:47 PM
In front on the protruding part above the windshield, the fin folds up in the middle leaving two gaps on both sides, it looks a little weird but nothing I'm overly bothered by.
Ah. I always figured that was the look they were intentionally going for. :O
Wing Saber was gone when I went to TRU today, I'm afraid. =/ I should have thought to pick it up when I was there before and I could have just returned it if you didn't want it. Oh well.
However, I did discover that my TRU finally has classics in! I am only partially satisfied because they were out of Hot Rods, but I'm pretty darn happy and will be back for more as soon as I get another paycheck. Optimus is swell... I can't decide if I like him or supercon Optimus better. I'll post some pictures later.

Anyway, I'm kind of disenchanted with posting news on here. Since I'm on the West Coast I sort of find out about things a few hours late anyway. To anyone that may not know where to look (aside from TK I don't know if any of the rest of you check out any TF sites) just check out TFormers or TFW2005 for most any news. Seibertron is a good site too but it's not too uncommon for them to post rumors as news without really being sure about it.
They pretty much just happened to be there. I actually got Swerve because of his vague Hot Rod-like attributes and Swindle because of that TRU "get a free basic when you spend $20" thing. Neither was premeditated.

Crezzy. Either way, I like the toys, in all of their color schemes. I prefer Hardtop to Swindle though, the colors remind me of the year 3-5 G1 Decepticons. I consider Clocker and Swerve about equal.
I'm not super wild about Swerve but he's pretty decent. I was actually quite impressed with the Swindle/Hardtop mold though... it's really well-detailed and articulated for a basic figure. I think the Hardtop colors are cooler though and I would have gotten that instead if they had one.
