Okay, we had the forum outage and all, but I think the result is obvious enough that we can move on...
Mime - 1
Mug - 5
Time for the final battle of this edition!
Mug - Many FFs (This ability's counterpart, Steal, was eliminated fairly early on, but for some reason this version has had staying power. Perhaps it's the fact that even if the stealing portion is unreliable, you can at least still get some damage in. The downside, is of course, that you potentially end up killing the enemy before you get to steal what you want.)
vs.
Stat Break - Many FFs (A set of abilities that include Power Break, Armor Break, etc. Doesn't really seem all that exciting, but it's had surprising staying power as well. It can be very helpful to weaken enemies that otherwise could be really tough.)

Support abilities seem to rarely be specific to a single game-- in fact, the only unique one that I have here is Move-Find. Anyways, as always, the above list is for reference and you can find the updated results in the first post of the thread. Let's get started. First battle...
HP Augment (A class of abilities that raises characters' HP. It's often expressed as a percentage, though in other cases, it may be expressed as a specific number, or as "Double HP," etc. If you're trying to defeat tough enemies with a lower level party, this can be a very useful ability to have, allowing them go against foes that would normally slaughter them outright.)
vs.
Auto Haste (Automatically bestows the Haste status upon a character at the start of battle, allowing them to act much more quickly than normal. Speed through the battle without having to first cast Haste, or worry about it wearing off.)

Next battle...
No Encounters (A useful support ability that unfortunately is only found in some FF games. It nullifies all random encounters, allowing you to adventure and level up your characters as you see fit and not deal with battles when you don't want to.)
vs.
Final Attack (Allows a character to access a final move before dying. I think it may only be present for your characters in Final Fantasy VII, though opponents in a number of different FFs like to use it. A common combination was Final Attack / Phoenix to automatically bring characters back to life.)

Final Fantasy VI had Final Attacks, as well. The game just never told you about it. Here's a video (

aces, Laguna was 27 years old in the flashbacks. The Laguna that you meet at the end of the game is 40-something. The evidence that he's Squall's father is overwhelming and discussed to death over in one of the threads in the FFVIII section.
It's been confirmed by Square anyway.

Cid and Shera Highwind - Final Fantasy VII - Married

"Wife? Don't make me laugh! Just thinkin' 'bout marryin' her gives me the chills." - Cid Highwind
(Cid and Shera Highwind live together in Final Fantasy VII. After Cid was unable to travel to the moon due to Shera's seeming overcautiousness, she pretty much became all but a slave to Cid. She was then left alone when Cid traveled around the world with Cloud and the others. But when the group returned to Rocket Town to launch the Shinra #26, she tagged along and ended up saving Cid's life. According to Final Fantasy Wiki, Dirge of Cerberus confirmed that these two characters got married.)
vs.
Marcus and Blank - Final Fantasy IX - Brothers

"There's only one man I call 'Bro.' That's Blank." - Marcus
(Marcus and Blank are members of the Tantalus gang and the best of friends. When Blank gets petrified in the process of helping everyone else escape the Evil Forest, Marcus begins a desperate search for Supersoft to free his friend.)

Brother and Buddy - Final Fantasy X-2 - Best Friends

Buddy: Still analyzing.
Brother: Duu cmuf! (Too slow!)
Buddy: Crid ib! (Shut up!)
Yuna: Buddy and Brother are old friends. Buddy says he was aboard Cid's airship with us two years ago. When I told him I didn't remember, he seemed disappointed.
(Brother and Buddy were first seen in Final Fantasy X, but didn't really gain much of a role until Final Fantasy X-2. Brother was the pilot of the Fahrenheit in Final Fantasy X and seemed very nervous, asking that he be allowed to have full concentration and that you not talk to him. Buddy you had barely any contact with at all. In Final Fantasy X-2, Brother became the so-called "leader" of the Gullwings sphere hunting group with Buddy as his right-hand man. The end of the game found Brother and Buddy considering the possibility of recruiting new Gullwings, given Paine and Shinra's plans to leave, and the likelihood of Yuna doing so as well.)
vs.
Oerba Yun Fang and Oerba Dia Vanille - Final Fantasy XIII - Partners

"Pulse and Cocoon can rot for all I care. If I don't figure out our Focus soon... Vanille's gonna be a Cie'th. I'll tear down the sky if it'll save her." - Fang
(Fang & Vanille both come from the world of Gran Pulse and they were turned to crystal once Fang turned to Ragnarok, but failed in her bid to destroy Cocoon, due to the meddling of a goddess. Fang awoke with no memory of her deadly Focus. Vanille pretended to do the same, but she actually remembered everything. Despite certain issues, they care deeply for each other, are the best of friends, and it's heavily hinted that they may be, well, lesbians. At the end of [i]Final Fantasy XIII, both turn to Crystal together to save the people of Cocoon.)

Laguna and Raine Loire - Final Fantasy VIII - Married

Laguna: Raine's story? Some other time, maybe. No...I can't. It's too much for me to remember.
(Raine first met Laguna when she tended to him after he stumbled into Winhill. Despite Laguna's many faults, she grew to love him. But Laguna was restless and he ended up becoming the president of Esthar. At some point, however, Laguna and Raine got married and conceived a child, Squall Leonhart. Raine died in childbirth.)
vs.
Dona and Barthello - Final Fantasy X / X-2 - Summoner and Guardian

Barthello: Can...I shake your hand? Auron--no, Sir Auron. You're the reason I became a guardian!
Auron: (Chuckles, offers hand.)
Barthello: Thank you, sir! This means so much to me!
Wakka: Calling the personal guardian to Lord Braska riffraff?
Lulu: And you call yourself a summoner?
Tidus: Yeesh.
Dona: Barthello, enough! Get back here!
...
...
Barthello: I swear, I'll never wash this hand again!
Dona: Please! Touch me with that hand and I'll remove it!
(Barthello is Dona's loyal guardian. "I have need of only one guardian," proudly proclaims Dona. But the two get separated when the Al Bhed kidnap Dona and whisk her to the Summoner's Sanctum. They are eventually reunited and Dona asks if she should quit her pilgrimage. Depending on Tidus's answer, she will or won't, but if she doesn't, she arrives at Zanarkand only to find that she's too late - the Fayth of the Final Summoning has been destroyed. In Final Fantasy X-2, she joins the Youth League and Barthello joins New Yevon, meaning he ends up in the Temple of Yevon-Kilika, away from Dona. Depending on the player's actions in Chapter 4, the two may reunite, though Dona tells Barthello that he'll be apologizing to her for the rest of his life.)

<font color="orange">Cloud: ......I used to want to be like Sephiroth, so I joined SOLDIER. After working with Sephiroth on several missions, we became friends.
Barret: You call that a friend?
Cloud: Yeah, well....... He's older than me, and he hardly ever talked about himself.
Tifa: ............
Cloud: So I guess you'd call him a war buddy..... We trusted each other. Until one day......
Aeris/th: ...one day?
Cloud: After the war it was SOLDIER's duty to put down any resistance against the Shinra. ...........that was 5 years ago. I was 16........</font>
(Cloud and Sephiroth worked together on a mission in Nibelheim. Cloud was not a First Class SOLDIER as he claimed, but merely a member of Shinra's grunt troops. But when Sephiroth launched an attack on his hometown, he couldn't just stand by. Cloud and Sephiroth later become bitter adversaries. In the Kingdom Hearts games, Sephiroth is depicted as the Darkness in Cloud's heart.)
vs.
Captain Adelbert Steiner and Beatrix - Final Fantasy IX - Lovers
http://agent0042.fileburst.com/myssword.gif
<font color="orange">Steiner: Where are you going?
Beatrix: Please don't ask. My mind is already set.
Steiner: Wait! Listen to me! < Thump-Thump...Thump-Thump... > I, uh... I-I never wish to lose you again!!!
Beatrix: Steiner...
Steiner: Let us protect the queen together!</font>
(Steiner and Beatrix are both top leaders in the Alexandrian army. But whereas Beatrix is powerful and respected, Steiner is regarded as a bumbling fool, or he was, until he traveled around the world with Zidane and changed. As the game progresses, these two powerful military figures discover an affection for each other that carries through to the end of the game. Though I don't know for sure, presumably they lived happily ever after.)

Galuf and Krile Baldesion - Final Fantasy V - Grandfather and Granddaughter

Galuf: Krile.
Krile: What. Grandpa!?
Galuf: Borrowing the power of the Master Tree that has protected the Crystals for 1000 years, I give you my strength.
Krile: Grandpa! Where are you?
Galuf: You aren't alone. Remember this, Krile.
(Krile gained all of Galuf's status and abilities!)
Krile: Grandpa. I feel warm. I feel, Grandpa.
Galuf: I'll still, be with you, forever.
(Galuf is the king of Val Castle and Krile, also know as Cara, is his granddaughter. Galuf begins the game with almost no memory of his past and serves as comic relief for a good portion of the game. But events cause him to remember that he was on an important mission and that he's a king in an entirely different world. He is also one of the original Warriors of Dawn. You first encounter Krile in that world and she has some special abilities, such as being able to speak with chocobos and moogles. When Galuf goes berserk against Ex-Death in a Tellah-like sequence, he has the last laugh by transferring his power to his granddaughter, who then joins your party.)

Seifer: Oh, you guys shouldn't have...I was gonna come visit you at my old home.
Squall: Shut up.
Seifer: Did you guys come to fight Matron? After all she's done for us? Hey Chicken-wuss. Lot's happened between us, eh?
Zell: Yeah! I'm dyin' to get even!
(Zell & Seifer rubbed each other the wrong way, right from the beginning in the orphanage. Years later, in Garden, Zell may have forgotten those times, but they still can't stand each other. Seifer declares Zell a chicken-wuss on his first SeeD training mission and things just get worse from there.)

No love for the grandfather and granddaughter from FFV. I would have voted for them, but ah well.
Okay, next up...
Squall Leonhart and Laguna Loire - Final Fantasy VIII - Son and Father
<font color="orange">Ward: "......"
Kiros: "(Ward says...Good thing you don't look like your father.) ... You look very much like your mother."</font>
(Though never mentioned explicitly in the game, Squall and Laguna are son and father. Squall was born to Raine, but she died due to the complications from the childbirth, and unfortunately, Laguna wasn't there because of the situation with Ellone. Laguna ended up becoming the president of Esthar, while Squall ended up in Matron's orphanage with Ellone. Though for most of his life up until he becomes a member of SeeD, Squall doesn't know his father, he ends up having a strong impact on his life. Via Ellone, Squall experiences flashes of Laguna's past, shaping and influencing that past in a way. Destiny eventually brings the two together when Laguna calls everyone to meet with him Esthar to discuss a plan to defeat Ultimecia.)
vs.
Zorn and Thorn - Final Fantasy IX - "Twins"
<font color="orange">Kuja: "So...an eruption of anger against one's surroundings induces a complete Trance! It's not the will to live, nor is it the desire to protect another!"
Zidane: "Man, you're really goin' off! Hello!?"
Kuja: "That means...I simply need a powerful soul, even if that soul is not my own! No, wait... And it can be found there! Hahahaha!!"
Zidane: "Kuja! What are you plotting?"
Kuja: "I am done with you!"
Vivi: "W-Wait a minute!"
Zidane: "Vivi! Look out!"
Kuja: "Don't worry, I hear these twins put on quite a good show. Of course, they're really not twins at all..."</font>
(Zorn and Thorn work as henchmen of sorts for Queen Brahne. They're malicious, schemy, plotting and so-forth. You fight them in the basement of Alexandria Castle and they can use powerful Twin magic, but it's easily disabled. After Garnet takes over as queen, they find themselves out of work, so they end up following Kuja, who reveals that they're not really twins at all and uses his magic to combine them into the monster Meltigemini.)
