Decent battle there. Focus wins by a fairly comfortable margin and is on to the semi-finals.
Last battle before the semi-finals...
Revive - Many FFs
vs.
Auto-Life / Reraise - Several FFs
Two abilities somewhat similar in nature. One restores a KOed member to life at no MP cost (or restores multiple if used in combination with Amarant's awesome Trance in Final Fantasy IX) and one restores KOed characters automatically, without you having to cast anything once it's active. Cast your votes!

Well, I usually only do it when it's getting closer to the final battles. I didn't see the point of potentially having them both in the semi-finals. Of course, I'm one of the few rumble-managers here that sets the battles by my choice. I think just about everyone else draws them up randomly, so in those cases, it's quite possible something like it could happen simply by chance.

Revive was more easily accessible and in more ffs than Auto-life. Took less support crystals to allocate in IX and less MP and time to cast in any of them instead of wasting mp to cast a temporary ability you won't know you need. Probably wears off quickly (haven't used Auto-life or whatever they call it in XI) like Blink/Aquaveil (yeah, who uses "aquaveil"?! :p) as well.

Revive squeaks it out by just one vote after an early lead for Auto-Life.
And we're at the semi-finals. Here's what's left!
Mug/Steal - Most FFs
Revive - Many FFs
Focus - Several FFs
HP Bonuses - Several FFs
And here's the first battle of the semi-finals:
Mug/Steal - Most FFs (This has proved a steady favorite throughout this edition. Mug has been sort of ignored in many cases, though, as people generally prefer Steal. But there's no doubt the two are pretty much tied to each other. Stealing is needed generally for any of a number of rare and useful items. Thief characters also often play a very important role in the stories of Final Fantasy games, though Locke would say that they're "treasure-hunters.")
vs.
HP Bonuses - Several FFs (HP Bonuses is a support ability that has been another popular choice here. Obviously a high HP will serious increase your chances of winning the battle. HP bonuses can be anywhere from just 10% to as much as doubling the HP, but no matter how much it is, it's something you generally want to have.)
Two popular choices, but only one can make the final. Which will it be?

Also, Zak Van -- ROTFL.
And now our second semi-final battle. Maybe this one will be a bit closer:
Revive - Many FFs (This one just barely squeaked out a win in its previous battle. But it's certainly a popular choice, on the whole. Revive allows you to instantly bring back a KOed character without expending MP, and who doesn't like that?)
vs.
Focus - Several FFs (A skill that boosts a single character's magic power, usually. Can be used repeatedly for increasing gains. Has proven a more popular choice in this edition than I would have ever expected.)

Cinna: "We were just discussing ways to restore this district." Zenero: "Yeah." Marcus: "Old timer, you've got us all wrong." Benero: "Yeah." Baku: "We're just tryin' to rebuild our home. That's all. Revive as creators made all ffs ridiculously dependent on it vs thinking there were actually things you needed with mug/steal even draw but you could beat the game with superfluous ease without the latter.

Revive - 10
Mug/Steal - 10
A tie! Astounding. Well, when there's a tie, we look to the results of the past battles. A tie for the final, this is is gonna be a doozy. So which one wins it? Let's see...
Revive - 12/13, 12/15, 11/16, 6/11, 13/17
Mug/Steal - 11/12, 11/13, 12/16, 15/19, 9/13
Those low numbers towards the end for Revive really did it in. Our big winner:
Mug/Steal
So what's next? I was thinking of doing another "Worst / Most Overrated" edition. We've already done Most Overrated Character (Sephiroth.) What else would be good? Here's some ideas --- Lamest Plot Twist, Worst Music Piece, Most Over-Quoted Item, Most Boring Location, Most Boring Subplot/Sidequest. In fact, yeah, I think I want to do one of those. Please cast your vote for one of those choices, unless you feel you have an even better one to suggest, or a blockbuster idea for something not along those lines at all.

The herd seems to have thinned to a choice between Most Boring Location and Most Boring Subplot/Sidequest. Please cast your vote now for one of these two only. If you have already voted, there is need to revote. If there's a clear winner by this evening, I'll get things started. If there isn't, I'll extend this till tomorrow evening.

Hello. I apologize for interrupting. Does anyone know where to get the project altered beast full ost to download? I've searched everywhere and kingdom hearts insider and galbadia hotel only have the stage music, but doesn't have any of the boss music or beast music.

Just to clarify what I said earlier, there's no need to revote unless you voted for something other than one of the two choices that are now battling.
And why do moronic newbs always feel the urge to "apologize for interrupting" when they post a message that has nothing to do with what's being talked about in an apparently random thread they chose?
Fae-cat
03-16-2008, 11:00 PM
Because this "moronic newb" is asking for a little thing called help.

Well, great! Why don't you start a thread about it, then, instead of choosing a random one that has absolutely nothing to do with what you're asking about?
I mean, here's the line of thinking that apparently must be going through your head -- "Hey, here's a topic called the 'General Final Fantasy Rumble'. Here are people talking about a game involving a continuing series of eliminations involving Final Fantasy-related items. So I think I'll come and talk about Kingdom Hearts and Galbadia Hotel, neither of which have the least bit to do with anything that's being talked about." Great thinking!

Well why didn't you just ask that in the first place, instead of refering to us in a durogatory term. a lesson in people skills wouldn't go amiss. thanks for the advice

If you think that was bad, then I recommend unsubscribing from the board immediately. Oh, and while we're at it, don't post the same off-topic thing in multiple threads either.

Most Boring Location - 5
Most Boring Subplot/Sidequest - 10
"Most Boring Subplot/Sidequest" is our choice, as it really pulled ahead at the end there.
I don't feel like drawing up the full list tonight. Here's the first battle:
We're Off a Journey to Obel Lake - Final Fantasy VIII (This subquest takes you to Obel Lake, where you skip stones and engage with a mysterious voice. Later, you play games with "Mr. Monkey" in a forest and hop of to various shorelines to find clues.)
vs.
Clasko is a Failure in Life - Final Fantasy X and X-2 (Clasko never seems to fit in the with the Chocobo Knights. He constantly falls behind and seems more in tune with helping the chocobos than helping the people the chocobo knights are dedicated to serving. In X, he eventually asks you if he should become a knight or a breeder and you can get a small reward if you tell him to be a breeder. In X-2, he's dumped the breeder thing and joins the Youth League, but fails at that too. Instead, you help him start his own chocobo ranch where the much cooler monster arena used to be.)
And while you're posting your vote, if you have any nominations, that'd be great.

Clasko is a Failure in Life (lol that name sounds pretty harsh).
I nominate 'The Queen of Cards' quest from FFVIII and 'Chocobo Hot and Cold' from FFIX

I would find Clasko is a Failure in Life more boring than the Obel Lake Quest since I spend more time on all the FFVIII quests than FFX.

We're Off a Journey to Obel Lake
It was so boring and pointless, I didn't even do it!
I'd throw in the defend Fort Condor missions, aside from the one in the story line you have to do
The sidequest after you find Choco's Paradise and you have to visit every beach on the world map (Final Fantasy IX)
probably some more but I can't think now...
