Omen (Opening Theme)
The Final Fantasy X OST is quite possibly my favorite soundtrack of Nobuo Uematsu's discography, and even then, I can't understand why there is all this fuss over "Zanarkand." Also, I personally believe that "Via Purifico" would've made a way better piano-laced, opening theme than "Zanarkand," and wouldn't be the least bit shocked if it were considered for that role at one point.
While I find "Zanarkand" to be dull, and most notably, misplaced as an appropriate opening theme due in part to its uneventfulness, I can't say the same for "Omen." At all.
Since "Omen" was fundamentally comprised of different compositions which melded together flawlessly, Nobuo was able to evoke a polar contrast of emotion from many a person who have listened to it for the first time (or continually) within a span of a little over four minutes. I think that's rather impressive.
That's what an opening theme should be; that's what it should do, in my opinion.

Some vocal support for FFVI's Opening Theme, but To Zanarkand definitely the preferred tuned.
All right, now we do a battle from the final category, Most Intense and then were start back from the top of the categories:
Hunter's Chance - Final Fantasy IX (Used during the Festival of the Hunt in Lindblum.)
vs.
Summoned Beast Battle - Final Fantasy X (What it says it is. This is the tune that plays when you have to fight all of Yuna's aeons. She has to summon each one and watch as it is possessed by Yu Yevon, then taken down. Only then can Yu Yevon be defeated.)

Otherworld...
What could I possibly say? It's one of the worst, if not the worst, tracks Nobuo Uematsu has ever been involved with devising. Entirely repulsive "tunes" such as: Critter Tripper Fritter!? (Final Fantasy V - Dear Friends), Gold Saucer (Final Fantasy VII), Before the Altar (Final Fantasy IX), and Mi'ihen Highroad (Final Fantasy X) sound like musical gold to these ears of mine, when in comparison with that medley of noise and incoherent growling - which, unfortunately, is off to an excellent start in this round.
Seriously.
My main gripe with Otherworld, other than those previously stated cons of mine, is its timing:
Fantastic! Let me welcome this musical equivalent to a chainsaw blaring through my headphones, right after I'm sedated by "Tidus's Theme." I'd like to not retain some of my sanity, be caught off-guard, and have the fine hairs on my neck stand on end from this accidental exposure; thank you very much!

Although the version of Otherworld by The Black Mages (in which Uematsu plays keyboards, and of course composed everything) is a lot better than the original one. A softer, non-barking female voice is probably for a lot of the improvement.

Alright, the results on this one are, then:
One Winged Angel - 8
Otherworld - 12
A much better battle than I expected. "Otherworld" wins fairly solidly and continues to the second round, which is drawing ever closer. Only one battle left in each category, and here's the first of those from Joyful:
Johnny C Bad - Final Fantasy VI (A sort of jazzy tune. I believe this plays in the Coliseum when you're not fighting a battle.)
vs.
Cid's Theme - Final Fantasy VII (This is played when you first meet Cid in the rocket and he says that he's "the Captain." It's also used in various Cid-related scenes. Plays as both the world map and flying the airship theme after you've made the decision to return to Midgar.)
Johnny C Bad. It plays inside the pub in Albrook, too. Anywhere there are large groups of imperials cavorting ;)

Cid's Theme
My memory has clearly become foggy, I figure.
I was under the impression that I remembered hating "Johnny C. Bad," and when I gave it a listen for this occasion, I thought to myself, "Heh. At best, this tune is actually decent. I often skip this one on my iPod, so I guess I had forgotten how it sounds!" Then, I scrolled upward to listen to "Spinach Rag," and after only approximately 20 seconds of hearing that crap before abruptly changing the track, I concluded that I had finally found the culprit.
Pertaining to "Cid's Theme," it certainly is epic! After "Descendant of Shinobi" ("Yuffie's Theme"), it's my second favorite character theme of FFVII.

Our results on this one:
Johnny C Bad - 4
Cid's Theme - 13
Two early votes for Johnny C Bad, but then Cid's Theme really took flight. It goes on to the second round. Now, our final first round battle for the Most Relaxing category:
Flowers Blooming in the Church - Final Fantasy VII (A version of Aeris/th's Theme. Plays, well, in the church of course. Also plays in her house and in a couple of other Aeris/th related sequences.)
vs.
Love Grows - Final Fantasy VIII (Another "Eyes on Me" variation. I think this is used in at least a couple of Rinoa-related scenes, though I'm not 100% certain. I think it may be the music that plays when Squall is transporting Rinoa along the bridge from FH to Esthar. It's one of the lengthier ones.)
Both my nominations shot down? Aw, man. Oh, well.

I must admit. I am quite the sucker for all of the arrangements of "Eyes on Me."
The scene where Squall treks from Fisherman's Horizon to Esthar, all while carrying a limp Rinoa on his back, was truly one to remember and cherish.
The lush sounds of "Love Grows" playing in the background made that event nothing short of an "o shi- moment" in gaming history.
All right, I'm overstating a bit. Still, it's miles better than "Flowers Blooming In the Church."

I must admit. I am quite the sucker for all of the arrangements of "Eyes on Me."
That and the fact that except for a few tracks on FF VII's ost, most of them have pretty weak sound samplings that are really annoying to my ears. This ends up with me not appreciating most of these themes as much as if they were sampled with FF VIII's sound quality.
I don't know if I'm the only one in that case, but I always though that, even if the polyphony is better, the sound quality of the sampling weren't even as good as in FF VI.
So even if the composition is stellar, this particular sound quality makes me choose a theme that MAY not be as good overall (I'm not really sure, to be honest), but I go for this one because there is just nothing for me to nitpick about it.

All right, we've got:
Flowers Blooming in the Church - 9
Love Grows - 10
I guess it was prophetic --- the person who nominated the piece not even voting for it. "Love Grows" moves on to the second round by just one vote.
And now, on the next battle, from Most Emotional:
Ami - Final Fantasy VIII ("Eyes on Me" variation again. This is used in a few different points int he game, I think. I seem to recall a debate a while back about exactly when it plays, but I definitely recall it playing at one point during the reminiscence scenes in Trabia Garden. I think maybe it starts up when Irvine starts talking about how he doesn't believe in life having all these different paths you can take, so on, so on.)
vs.
Loss of Me / Rose of May - Final Fantasy IX (This is "Beatrix's theme." It's used in several scenes related to her, including when you first see her expressing doubts about Queen Brahne's actions. I prefer the "Rose of May" title, though you often see it listed under the other name.)

Ami
My, my. The other major theme that has several versions throughout FFVIII, the "Friend" theme.
This piano-heavy variation causes you to become more enveloped with the story as a whole, even through that horrid "Lol. GFs make us go senile. Let's, out of the clear blue, remember one another for the sake of this person playing." moment of the game in Trabia, it ups its believability.
The track oozes emotion, and as inferred earlier, it adds greatly to the sincere appeal of the main party's flashbacks as young children under the care of Edea. Not to sound like a cornball, though there's really no other way for me to put it, but it's a heartwarming tune, and should be played on cue when opened in a Hallmark card!
I didn't mean that very last part, just for the record.
On the other side of things, "Roses of May" fails to impress, and I think it's almost as overrated as the character it was composed for.
KHF1990

As much as I love Ami, I would have to say Rose of May because I found Beatrix contemplating the Queen's actions and even question her own previous goals to become the strongest while the Queen kept using the Eidolons and Black Mages.
She even questioned the behaviour of her queen when she said that she could have easily taken Cleyra, I noticed some regret there and when she said "Maybe Steiner was right..." she believes Steiner turned against the Queen because of similar intentions to her feelings about their Queen.

The glut of "Eyes on Me" variations sends people scrambling to vote for something that isn't one. "Ami" gets a fair few supporters, but it's ye theme of Beatrix that makes it into the second round. And we're nearly there, but we still have one more battle first. From Most Intense, that's:

Seeing as how the chronological elements of plot are present, you could formulate an engrossing narrative of your own with this grand, operatic orchestration, except that it leaves you with a cliffhanger - one that'll entice the player to scramble for its resolution and conclusion.

I think it should be noted that the thing we must vote on here isn't the cut-scenes in which the theme songs play, but the theme songs THEMSELVES.
Also, the intro of FF VIII might not make much sense at first, but once you've completed the game, you understand that all of it is a "time-loop feedback". An "after"-effect of the time-compression.
