Me too. I was looking forward to Desplat. Then my heart sank when Giacchino was announced. I wonder if Desplat even wrote anything.....
Yes he did... He worked on the movie for over a year.... He got kicked off the Project when Disney took over Roque One from Gareth Edwards and demanded that 40% of the movie be re-shot. Disney rejected Desplats score. Disney is really worried about this movie... no idea why as this movie is gonna kill it at the box office even though Ive heard its not very good. Disney is more interested in making Fan Fiction Nostalgia wankfests.....

Sorry, but the truth is a lot more complicated than "scheduling conflicts". Honestly, from the several people I've heard it from, the situation is a lot closer to rocklegend's description…
Still, fingers crossed that the movie turns out OK.

Nope... thats Desplat being diplomatic.... Giacchino let the cat out of the bag when Disney told him he could listen to Despats score Demos as not to go down the same path. This is not an Gareth Edwards film. Disney have being micro-managing this film since June

Oh well, Giacchino will make a great job I'm sure, and Desplat will make a cool space opera soundtrack anyways with Valerian, so win win!
And neat covers too, but I'd like to suggest, my personal view, that in the white one, move the x-wings to the sides of the main ensemble pic, and nt let the ensemble cross over the golden frame.

What?
Even though some labels have released previously rejected/unreleased scores, I doubt Disney/LucasFilm would EVER consider doing anything of the sort, ESPECIALLY with something as big as the Star Wars IP.

I went ahead and tried to recreate the cover in PS because I suck at scanning covers. Plus, this also fixes the missing teeth from t-rex problem on the LLL booklet.
Covers never look good and the colors always look off when I scan them with my printer. Anyway, below is the result.
I also recreated TLW cover but had to take a guess at the colors for the credits based on the image of the set from LLL.

I haven't posted a cover in a little while, and I've been wanting to create a cover using this material (the 'newer' key art for the film) for a long while. I always liked it as well as the original, and speaking of which, I wouldn't mind going back to revisit and revise the covers for this I posted back in earlier August. Those were fine. The resolution for the source material was a bit low (500x573), so the cover is only 500x500... until I find a higher resolution. :notgood:
'Score' variant here (

)
This kind of reminded me of when I worked on the cover for Enemy at the Gates that used its respective 'newer' key art. A lot of films did that.
P.S. I also love the score.

Not really warranted, actually. FSM's cover work's well enough. But just for my own amusement sake: no cropping; instead extend the boundaries of the original artwork to fill an enlarged 1:1 ratio, and see if I could convince even myself with the result…. I think I was pretty successful.

I think I got JP pretty close to dead on or as close I as can get it.
I know the colors of the credits are not a perfect match for TLW but, the background image I used isn't a perfect match either so, I chose some slightly different shades of green that I though better suited the image I used.
Anyway, there you have it, I hope some will enjoy my attempts. This is probably the closest well ever get since LLL doesn't post high quality images of the booklet covers on their website.

Wow, what an extensive and well put-together series, rotane! Don't see you around here very often, but glad to see your posts when you do. I'm a sucker for simplistic art like this, especially for a fantasy series. It makes it feel like it came out of the world itself. I'm always open for suggestions – and you're by no means a novice any more! :)
Regarding old-fashioned borders… You know, i've tried this every now and then, but could never get it to look like i wanted. Adding a border here, however, would make these significantly less simplistic. Still, it would be cool to have these resemble old book covers even more, so i'm intrigued – to say the least. So yeah, i might give it another try one of these days…

Intrada's official cover looks strangely lo-def and out-of-focus, so I wanted to create a decent alternate. Couldn't find any hi-res key art until recently, although I had to paint out some very heavy fold lines on this one.

Music by Jerry Goldsmith.
This needs no introduction…

#1 is a somewhat recreation of the official (

) 20th Century Fox Records LP from 1979. However, without the reversed egg on the front.
If you want a perfect recreation of the LP cover, I suggest this guy (
https://hqcovers.net/2014/10/04/alien/#jp-carousel-2856) :)
#2 was an attempt to make the film “more modern”, I’m referring to the text at the bottom and the brilliant artwork (

),
which highlights the teal-and-orange (
https://priceonomics.com/why-every-movie-looks-sort-of-orange-and-blue/) look used in many film posters these days, by Brian Taylor (
https://twitter.com/CandykillerNews).
Unfortunately, the poster design seemed to cramp in a square for my taste, fortunately it proved quite easy to expand the image with some gradient colour and a bit of smoke ;)

(
http://imgur.com/coABDQQ)

(
http://imgur.com/3kljwJd)
Can you find the Alien in #3? Original artwork by Noble--6 (
http://noble--6.deviantart.com/art/Alien-606136058).
#4 is inspired by one of my personal favourite Vinyl covers; Apocalypse Now (

), and uses one of the greatest and most iconic shots in film history.
http://i.imgur.com/KjQCyRul.jpg (http://imgur.com/KjQCyRu)
#5 is based on a combination of the official 1979 release and the 1995 widescreen edition LaserDisc (

) artworks.
For #6 I wanted the text to be upright to match the Alien itself.

(
http://imgur.com/VKhIZFQ)

(
http://imgur.com/UXRwUue)
#7 is based on the 1993 Limited Edition Alien Trilogy Facehugger Box Set (
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VpLPuAZnKbI/Tir-gPuYT3I/AAAAAAAAAAY/Zc1vh_4jYdg/s1600/PICT0006.JPG) on VHS.
As I teased earlier (
Thread 90457), this will be one the covers that will be in a matching set for the entire ‘main’ series, you have to guess which ones the others are ;)
#8 was fun to do. It’s heavily inspired by the LP release of The Graduate (

) soundtrack ;)

(
http://imgur.com/A3C8gqq)

(
http://imgur.com/M0jj5X3)
#9 uses the amazing artwork Doaly (
http://doaly.com/project/alien-35th-anniversary/) did for the film’s 35th Anniversary.
I actually quite like the colour combination of blue and gold, however like most people, when I think of Alien I think of the colour green,
apparently so did Doaly, if you agree look at #10 :)

(
http://imgur.com/WY8i0UB)

(
http://imgur.com/aA8w8Lj)
In #11 I wanted to use the incredible artwork of the 35th Anniversary Blu-ray (
http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Alien-Blu-ray/109897/), and I thought it was quite fitting to the Intrada Records (
http://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.5613/.f) 2CD release.
At first, even though I like the artwork, I didn’t think the image would work for a soundtrack cover (#12), but I soon realised it was actually perfect for it.
The sense of claustrophobia as you stare into the eyes of poor Jonesy is almost frightening, especially once you notice the tail of the beast.
The red also provides a strong contrast in relation to all the others in this series.
Alternates: #11 (

) / #12 (

)

(
http://imgur.com/ldYctCp)

(
http://imgur.com/8ahJ44q)
#13 was another attempt to make a Vinyl cover, again for the Intrada release.
Even though I probably wouldn’t use it, #14 could provide a uniqueness amongst other covers in things like iTunes.

(
http://imgur.com/XfgYmxt)

(
http://imgur.com/YaEjXNM)
#15 is quite interesting for a couple of reasons:
It uses the Alien logo of this piece (

), and even though the original artwork is fantastic out of respect for his version and frankly because he did something much more unique,
heidl (
https://hqcovers.net/2014/10/04/alien/#jp-carousel-2732) once again made a brilliant cover using that poster.
And it uses the background image of this (

) and this (

) in #16. The two (like 9 and 10) are in a way “opposite-twins” :)

(
http://imgur.com/noimcpr)
The final version in this series is one my favourites, not only is the artwork once again great, but there’s something about the way Jonesy is terrifyingly observing the Alien
that immediately puts me back in the role of Amanda Ripley from Alien: Isolation…
If you have any special requests for any of them (e.g. if you want me to add or move anything or change the color of something or whatever your heart desires), please let me know.
Hope you like 'em ;)

Do you know what I hate about the Alien soundtrack?
It's that the official release has a perfect cover art.
It means that no matter how brilliant the custom cover art the many talented individuals like heidl and tintacle produce for a series dripping in lore, history and iconography (and the key art to go along with it), I can't use any of them because the Intrada 2 CD version has a perfect cover that fits the music too well. At least, in my opinion. It's a conundrum, isn't it? We complain about how terrible official art is all the time, yet if they were any good in the first place would this little thread even exist with all of these talented people producing such works of art (and a few not-so-good pieces from time to time)?
Thankfully, I have enough problems with the official artwork for the other releases for these films that I can look forward to the rest of tintacle's series. And I can at least appreciate all of the hard work, research, love and dedication that's gone into each of these fantastic covers, and admire each one of them separately. You are a treasure to our craft, tintacle. Keep up the good work!
Oh, and just in case tintacle comes up with the same idea as me, here's a cover for Aliens I did almost exactly one year ago that I haven't gotten around to uploading until now. The only impetus for this cover's existence is that SonicAdventure's Deluxe Edition banners give me a hard-on, and since this release is an official Deluxe Edition from Varese that the two should go together. I used that awesome which is awesome because a) the lighting and composition of this piece is gorgeous b) each of the original films are highlighted by a specific colour, which this cover brings out in it's deep bluess) and c) it returns the focus of the cover to the Xenomorph, which most Alien covers should do (Aliens was the only one of the original four to take the focus away from the Alien on the official art, highlighting Ripley and Newt instead). Thanks to heidl for linking a good resolution image. Looking back at it, I don't think I like the font choice for the text other than the title, maybe some more low-key like on the perfect Intrada Alien cover instead? Whatever, this was literally from twelve months ago, so I can't perfectly recall my thought process behind it. I'm trying to keep my ramblings short to not take thunder away from tintacle's awesome post (not that my crappy cover can do that anyways). Enjoy!

Here are my custom covers for Alien.
Music by Jerry Goldsmith...
Stunning. 2, 3, 6, 14 & 17 are simply breathtaking. The composer in red on 2 is a very good eyecatcher, especially since it creates an imaginary angled line in combination with the red illumination on Ellen's skin. I love about 6 that the fonts mimic the dangling chains, very neat idea. And that you were able to make a working cover out of 12 (I wasn't able to - no surprise there - so I rejected that cover), remarkable. Though I wish that the movies' title would be more visible.
Now, version 11 is a gorgeous cover, for sure. But I don't think that the banner on top of it works that well. You probably did it to reference the glossy chrome feel of the picture. I also think it's good to have something at the upper edge to complete the whole cover... but I think something more fragile (for example: mirroring the elegant font choices from the lower edge) would work better. I could very easily be wrong, so forgive me if I (of all people) utter some criticism.

If you don't mind me asking but, what font is used for "The Deluxe Edition"? I'm sure it is obvious to others but, I've never been able to find a perfect match.
Sure, it's Futura Lt BT Light. Don't know if it's original, I got the template from SonicAdventure and I never changed it

Saw the film this weekend. I knew what I was in for (the ending) and I felt fucking depressed because of it but damn I loved every goddamn minute of it.
How about that scene in the end with....
DARTH VADER SLAYING DOWN THOSE REBEL SOLDIERS! HOLY SHIT! That was probably my favorite scene! :P

Hey tintacle, can you use a regular version font rather than the bold version? Perhaps a little less striking white? It screams attention to itself and away from the Rogue One logo :)
EDIT: just now scrolled up and saw that's exactly what Impervium asked for. lol, my bad, just my two cents is all :)

I was happy they didn't really try to shoe-horn him in, it all felt really well placed, and OH MY FUCKING GOD THAT'S VADER AND OOOOOH SHIT HE'S DRAWING HIS LIGHTSABER!!! It was ok. Or as I'm now known to say, "good, not great". The build took forever and got kinda boring at parts. I nearly fell asleep - sadly my brother was not as strong as I was and he was passed out. The climax was pretty awesome and then the final scene was fucking insane.

Yeah if it's "complete" it definitely has SFX. This one has never surfaced and I've never even heard anything about it being "out there". Like many other people, it's one of my grails.
This is awesome!!! Only I would move the top text a little higher. It's too low, throwing the entire cover off balance. And maybe move the logo down a little closer to the horseman? Give it a spin.

:awsm: :awsm: :awsm: MERRY CHRISTMAS :awsm: :awsm: :awsm:
Here are my custom covers for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Music by Michael Giacchino.
I was planning to post these on Christmas Day, but the schedule proved to be way too busy, anyhow better late than never ;)
Having finally seen the film and loving it, it was almost inevitably not to re-release the ones I posted in late November while also adding a few more to the collection.
I've heard from various reviews of the film that the score is somewhat forgettable or not that fantastic.. I must admit, I thought the same thing the first time I saw the film. But after having seen it again and having listened to the score extensively, thanks to Bart Oss (
Thread 213211) because my copy of the score hasn't arrived yet, I'm really enjoying it now. The same thing happened with The Force Awakens, at first I didn't think it was that memorable or was even living up to Williams' usual masterpieces, however, now I absolutely love the music and the soundtrack, especially The Deluxe Edition (
Thread 204325) presented by Sonic and Heidl, has become one of my personal favourites in the Star Wars series. I've grown to love it almost as much as the original trilogy, and will be able to recognize any of the themes anytime.
Back to Rogue One, though I don't consider it as one of Giacchino's finest, it definitely won't rank among his weakest, in fact the more I think about it and listen to it the better it gets. I think a lot of people, including myself, somewhat expect the score to be absolutely fantastic from the instant we hear it because it's Star Wars. I'm hoping it will get the recognition it deserves as time goes, like Force Awakens did. My favourtie track on the soundtrack is without a doubt "Guardians of the Whills Suite (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqcXAPejbj0&index=20&list=PLzFg1I9Qhy5w0Of8DSazCXGjTPyn6K-NW)".
I'm also interested in what you guys think about the soundtrack? :)
(click on images for full resolution)

(
http://imgur.com/yHoCtRb)
The first cover in this series uses one of the first (if not the first) official poster released, which is the one I think the should've used for the official soundtrack.
#2 was my attempt to recreate the simplicity of the first vinyl release of Star Wars, with the symbol of the Rebel Alliance added behind the logo.

(
http://imgur.com/yaiZNaX)

(
http://imgur.com/1sTw7lE)
#3 uses, what I think is a custom, image of what could've been one of the more iconic shots in the film which we never got to see (only shown in the trailer) as it's backdrop.
And the keen viewer might notice the text is taken almost directly from Empire's original vinyl release.
#4 is a recreation of the cover I made as part of my Steelbook (
Thread 90457) series,
this time REMASTERED IN AMAZING 3000PX RESOLUTION and also the lights have been tweaked a little to make it look more realistic ;)

(
http://imgur.com/ZK5ZZ4t)

(
http://imgur.com/Y3wU7qE)
#5 was an idea to make it look almost like a booklet for the plans to the Death Star.
#6 is another simple version which I think would work best for the FYC.

(
http://imgur.com/oi7BkoN)

(
http://imgur.com/xsQgswc)
#7 and 8 are another set of "opposite twins".
The original artwork by Chris Alcock aka Mistery Monday (
http://www.mysterymonday.co.uk/) was in colour, but I thought it might work better in black and white (or Death Star Grey ;)),
but out of respect to Chris I decided to include both of them.

(
http://imgur.com/dU1okCS)

(
http://imgur.com/Wuct9WP)
The next three I like to call the "Screenshot Trilogy" ;)
#9 and 10 uses two screenshots taken from the first and second official trailer, and because they feature the Death Star I wanted to emphasize,
one thing director Gareth Edwards is brilliant at (e.g. Godzilla), showcasing scale/size of it, so it was critical for me that the logo and the text appear small in comparison.

(
http://imgur.com/AUb1cl8)

(
http://imgur.com/Br5e1Qw)
#11 is also a screenshot of, well, I don't need to explain who that is..
#12 is a simple version of, in my opinion, the most interesting of the character posters (
http://www.starwars.com/news/rogue-one-posters) featuring everyone's favourite comedic relief.

(
http://imgur.com/xtg6Sr8)

(
http://imgur.com/gpoHMzh)
#13 uses the brilliant artwork from Kevin Tiernan (
https://posterspy.com/profile/kevintiernan/), just flipped upside down.
#14 was another attempt at making it look like "here are the plans to the Death Star" and actually uses the second half of the artwork #6 uses: the cover for the Rogue One colouring book (
https://www.amazon.com/Art-Coloring-Star-Wars-Rogue/dp/1484798643).

In #3 the Alien is right behind Dallas, Kane and Lambert. I had no idea it was there either, it was only when I made the cover and was glued to the surface of my screen I noticed it, and I quickly leaned back in my chair and actually said out loud "Holy Sh#t! Where did that come from..." :-D

I saw this photo, and thought it would make for some pretty cool cover art. Decided to do something with it, and I like how it turned out...mostly.

It's cool, but makes it feel as though Zack Snyder directed and not Ridley Scott. Reminds me of the Universal Steelbook Blu-rays. Scott Pilgrim came to mind....

I have to agree with DAK. Very well made, but I feel it's not really the tone or atmosphere of the film, in my opinion. Still, thanks for contributing! :)
