Need to check with the director first and the distributor but I think they would probably agree to it!"

GUYS! Updates on the Frequencies thing! I sent the composer the poster I originally edited from, and he sent this back:
"Ahh, I see, I'd never seen that poster before. That's cool what you did with it! Unfortunately that makes things a little more complicated as I asked the director about the poster and the sales company own the rights...We weren't allowed to use it for the Australian release without paying them a lot so it's unlikely we'd be able to use it for this. Sounds ridiculous when they used our original images but the director doesn't want to rock the boat with the sales guys...
Will look into the options and get back to you!"

Well I made like, 3 different versions of the cover with 3 different forms of artwork in the background so he really can take his pick...not all of the covers use this same poster...it's just this particular version of the cover was his favorite one which is why he wanted to use it I guess...

That's good, give 'em options they're bound to be allowed to use one of them.
Still, indie film or not, distribution companies and content creators ought to have better relations over stuff like this, I mean, what if the director wants to make mugs out of the poster, are they really going to ask him to pay licensing fees?

I don't know. Maybe not sued immediately, but probably some sort of cease and desist order.
We're using stuff that belongs to someone else. I think personal artists won't complain (which doesn't mean they approve) as long as they get some sort of credit. But big companies may think different...
On the other hand, custom covers may be the least concerning thing to them on this board ;-)

In that case, here it is. So, something happens and it affects our protagonist significantly to a point that he cannot hold the barrage of liquid emotion any longer and literally lets it go. The event that triggers this doesn't seem to impact the others the way that it does him but is so important to the story that if I tell you or anyone who hasn't yet watched it, just trust me, I've been that person on the other end of an unexpected spoiler reveal only to pretend like 'i'm okay and it's no big deal, I'll just catch it later' while going through a horrific internal implosion of rage.

I've been working on this for several hours now...started on it yesterday. Finished like, a teeny-weeny bit of it at like 2:30 in the morning, then got extremely tired and lazy and went to bed, restarted work on it in the afternoon. Now, it's done. Hope you guys like it! Click for full size!

P.S. If this has been released or it was released underground or anybody ever happens to come across it, I'd love to have it. Thanks!
Huh...I didn't know Interstellar was about James Brown, must've been in the deleted scenes. The movie is so good maybe the grandfather dude had a back story that was left on the cutting floor. Maybe 'Get On Up' was a foreign title, those translators, honestly. Thomas Newman, probably an unreleased score that was so bad Nolan was in tears, Hans had to come in and fix it with the glorious organs.

Nope. So I reload the page and my post still doesn't show up so I type and post again...and thus, reposts.

Returning with a cover for Elfman's Batman. I've never been satisfied with the original cover by Warner Bros., and this is the score I would likely credit for opening my ears to listening to film scores outside of their pictures. So I cooked up this simple alternate, which pays a little tribute to Prince's original single for "Batdance." I've always found the logo and that font evocative of my immense devotion to this film and its music, so I wanted to include all of it. Enjoy compadres!
Up next will be a similar approach to Elfman's Batman Returns.

Being a pitiable fool living under a rock is such fun.
Before you all come down on me like a ton of bricks...
Along with a fair few other films that everyone else has seen, I just simply haven't had the chance. I do mean to watch them sometime though. Hopefully come September I'll be A LOT less busy. So I'm planning on seeing the Star Wars films, the rest of the MCU from The First Avenger upwards, and a whole host other movies. So bear with me!! lol :-P
Whilst I'm here, can I request an alternate OST cover for Legend of the Guardians by David Hirschfelder? The official cover is nice, but to my mind it doesn't do the film justice. There's some STUNNING artwork. Somebody? :)

I watch a lot of films. Not all of them. But a lot.
Now that that's out of the way, there are a lot of very mainstream, very much cult classic oft mentioned and generally perceived to be universally part of the collective memories of the human race kind of films that i have not seen. Although I plan to watch them at an unspecified time later, that does not change the fact the as of this moment and the years that i have lived since those movies came out, I was not fully exposed to them as other people were. Now, this may put me at a disadvantage but hey, I haven't closed the door on it either. In the time that I "wasted instead", I may have watched excellent movies that aren't classics or tipping the mainstream 'coolness' factor yet but have artistic value to me or simply done other things apart from watching goddamn movies (this little thing called living, i don't know if most people have heard about it yet).
With films, like most forms of art there are a lot of reasons why a subset of people may not have experienced it. Access to it, content restrictions, local availability in either home video/digital or theatrically, interest or just the fact that some films are amazing but too old to be accessible in two-thousand-and-fifteen.
Anyway, films have been in production for over a hundred years in America alone, all those movies that cannot be seen again, are lost to us today. Everyday, new movies of varying qualities are being made all over the globe and the pace at which this is happening is only rapidly accelerating, none of us are going to have the time in ten lifetimes to witness them all. I'm just grateful for the ones that I have experienced. And hope I can continue to see more.

To the points of Sully and Helix, I actually had never seen Jaws until last month. I had obviously heard it was amazing, and I had wanted to see it, but it had just never happened (I was raised very sheltered). I get a lot of "how have you never seen that?" about some films (Jaws, Terminator, Titanic and Avatar just to name a few) and I give people grief when they don't know who Carey Grant or John Wayne are. :D

Neither do I. The thing is, most people think of themselves as these divine beings based on the fact the they may have seen one measly film or heard one "in" song before you have and the split-second of superiority that they do feel is worthless if the other person doesn't care or think of it as a big deal. This is too common and freaks me out all too often. If instead of sneering and gloating all over the place we just shut up about it and politely recommend it to the other person there'd be no problems, of course keeping in mind what you know about the person, would they even like what you're pushing. BTW, DAK this is general everyday social stuff, not directed at you, SW is cool (i was just worried about the spoiler tbh).

God, I'd be devistated if someone who actually worked on "The Legacy Collection" from Disney Music Emporium saw these and gave me a message saying that if I kept creating this kind of artwork, they'd do more releases.

I'm really sorry for doing this, but....
Back then, when we were still "on-topic" in this thread, and by on-topic I mean discussing the one and only thing every proper community in the world wide web is or at least should be discussing, well back then I've foresightfully prepared myself for the ultimate custom covers battle. And it was not without disappointment that I've noticed this thread relapsing back into the usual standard fare.
So here's my final attempt to revive this thread back into the glorious spheres where it once belonged and upon which it should throne for all eternity until the Holy Zimmer blesses us with yet another monumentally landmark achievement of aural epicness.

I would like it to say 'Original Motion Picture Soundtrack'

I would also like it to say 'Music by Nathan Furst'
Here's some art that should work..I would like to see all 5 made into covers, if that's possible. Thank you :)

Okay, so I made a request before and haven't posted how I used it (yet).
But, I'd like to make another request, if possible:
John Wick (2014)
End Credits
I know the film has several credits:
Tyler Bates ... (original music by)
Joel J. Richard ... (music composed by)
And the end credits have a song (I don't know what).
But just a bland title of "End Credits" will suffice.
Tagging will contain actual artist info.
Looking for a minimalist cover. Nothing extravagant.
Wick is a very solid 1-bullet/1-kill kind of character so anything minimalist will portray the film accurately (hence not 3 artists listed on the cover).

Yes, the Nolan-haters. They bash it becuase it's too smart for them. However, they claim the opposite in defense of their stupidity - that's why there's hate for it. If you don't understand it, you're not going to like it.

I will recommend it, in IMAX though. It's like Gravity for me, once you see it in a theatre, it sucks on anything else.

The movie isn't perfect though, some of that critique isn't all lies. Not to start a discussion here(I fear i might though) the whole communicating through dust thing was so lame, and really the whole going back and looking through the bookshelf all of it basically the entire pre-ending was where the movie fell apart for me. It's not the smartest thing around either. The original script was for me better in some ways and Chris' additions to it were in some places just pointless and made it worse. But you're right, it's like most Nolan movies like that, if you don't get it then it's going to piss you off.

It is from my understanding that Oscar contention means that the public thinks that they're in the running to possibly get nominated (like another way of saying Oscar Hopefuls), and nomination is, well, nomination.

I think it's more specific than that. I think studios put forward what they want to be nominated. For example, MU was put forward for Best Original Score and an FYC disc was produced. However, it sadly didn't get nominated. So I think those 79 must have been all the songs put forward by various studios to be considered for a nomination last year. Only five of those were subsequently chosen.
As another example, Randy Newman specifically stated that he had agreed to put forward We Belong Together from TS3 for consideration of a nomination for Best Original Song but had decided against agreeing to put forward his actual score for consideration of a nomination for Best Original Score (which confused a lot of people, including myself, as I think it's one of his greatest scores).

@tintacle, you know what they say about having too much of a good thing...
@Sully, The Black Line also sounds like a underground rail line. I try so hard everyday resisting Iron Man-related stuff honestly, the suit, the helmet, the colours, everything is so good. Even right now, must-not-search. Must-not-search.
@FORZA, it looks great but the image looks squeezed, even animated the human skull is not a one of those two and a quarter litre sized soft drink bottles. Instead of trying to fit the whole, what I'm presuming is a widescreen ratio, image into a square AR, try cropping it in a way that cuts out some clouds on the edges.
@heidl, I love Alien (the first movie), but I had no intention of doing it since I thought the original, despite repeated attempts, could not be topped, and here I am, starting to play Isolation because of your covers now. And creeping out simultaneously. Which is good.

Here's an approach which I worked on just yesterday:
Generally I have to say, that the Jupiter Ascending marketing material is a bit of a mixed bag for me.
The official poster looks a little trashy in my eyes, with all those lens flares and crammed up to the last corner. Also I'm missing some subtle images, maybe a lonely yet menacing image of Jupiter in space, or a daytime city skyline shot with a barely visible Jupiter in the background sky.

Nice JA cover... Not that it's anything to do with your work, but it doesn't really look like the people (I don't know their names - haven't seen the movie, not particularly interested) are actually flying... when I first scrolled down I actually thought it was another Iron Man cover... :D

@Sully, The Black Line also sounds like a underground rail line. I try so hard everyday resisting Iron Man-related stuff honestly, the suit, the helmet, the colours, everything is so good. Even right now, must-not-search. Must-not-search.
Haha, my problem exactly!! It's never ending. Once you start looking, you can't stop!

I might actually use this. I really like it! However, do you think you could do a version that says "Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" for Lockdown, and a version that says "Original Motion Picture Score" for me? Pretty please? :)

Thanks! Do you still want to have versions of the first one?
I'm pretty sure I'll revamp it anyway, it was more a rough sketch than a finished custom cover.

If you want to revamp it then that's great (I'd love to see it). But at the moment I plan on using your other one so I don't NEED it. :)

Had a go at changing the colours... but the edges of the helmet aren't very smooth any more... any thoughts?

What do you think of my Mk. II above? Any idea how to get the rough edges smoothed out, as it was before?

Ha! There are numerous opinions possible, e.g. marvellous, astonishing, superb or also, fantabulous ;)
I really liked the first MKII. Honestly I don't think it was necessary to change anything. The dirty background texture made it a tad more exciting to look at.
To smoothen out the edges you may need to use Photoshop.
I don't know if GIMP has this feature, but in PS you can autoselect an area (based on colours). So I would autoselect the red area and then, when you see the selection mask (the little moving ants), you can set soft edges to 1-2 pixels, I think it's called feathering. If you then delete the selected area I think the rough edges will disappear. You'll have to create a new background layer then to reset the background colour, but that should be no problem.

You mean the Mk. I? Yeah, I liked the dirty background texture too, but couldn't figure out a way of keeping it whilst changing the colours. Can you think of a way? That would also fix the problem with the rough edges too, I think.
Thanks for the tips. I'll see what I can do when I have some time.

I tried the feathering, and it looks better. Thanks for the tip, Heidl!
What are people's thoughts on this? I think it looks quite good myself. It certainly fits the bill (and looks great) in iTunes.

Would anyone like me to do similar covers for IM2 & 3?
Absolutely. :) I love seeing sets of covers for trilogies and whatnot that use the same layout and look cohesive (like they all came together). The most recent example is what FORZA is doing with HTTYD 1 and 2. :)

Don't worry, you're getting used to it. In fact after some time you'll even start liking it and then you're going to want to hang around here all day long ;)

Well some graphics applications can adjust certain colour temperatures and saturations and stuff only for the desired colour channel (splitted into RGB or CYMK). In your case a little tweaking of all reds would do the trick I guess.
Honestly, i like it where it is! lol. You can't please everyone! :D

Loving that artwork (and the vinyl idea is pretty neat aswell).
That Iron Man Mark II Sully posted is really good too.
