Philip Glass? Interesting..

Philip Glass isn't working on this one anymore.
In fact he hasn't ever done little more, than submitting one single "piano idea" to Marco Beltrami - but that's it.

What size is the source image of this one?
I'm thinking if it's possible to crop it down so that the launching rocket is about as far from the top edge, as the farmhouse is from the bottom one. You could then add the vertical interstellar logo (the text-only version) over the rockets' launch-trail of fire and smoke . It could work pretty good with that light/dark background.

The source image (the biggest I could find) was approx. 760x760. So I could do that. It's a great idea. :)

--EDIT--

Just found a high-res (1000x1462) version. :)

O_O

AMAZING.

Where'd you find that image? Or did you piece it together yourself?

Thanks! :)

Google. I certainly didn't piece it together myself! I just added the logos and all the text.

First let me say that the overall design looks pretty good.

The problem I have with that image is the space shuttle launching, because there is no space shuttle featured in the movie. Therefore, the image just doesn't work for me as an "Interstellar" cover.

Thanks. Yeah, that bothers me too. There isn't a space shuttle in the movie, is there? But hey, it's a damn cool image.

Not to be irritating, but seriously guys, I've read the all thread, 280 pages, and the general audience blockbusters take a far too large place in it, in my opinion.

Does all Interstellar images really need to be used? Soon there will be more Interstellar cover art than Interstellar OST tracks.

Haha yeah seems like some people here are Nolan's fans and are really determined to make one artwork per Interstellar FYC tracks. Overdose.

I would like to move on, but I come back again and again on the same movie, the same tiny variations...

I appreciate the word done and share here, but in my opinion it's a pity to work again and again on this movies. I mean, the Marvel ones and Interstellar must take 1/3 of the entire thread. We are like DJs who can played thousands of fine or underexposed artists but instead keep playing David Guetta. But maybe customizing cover art is more about being fan about a type of film than being original and adventurous. Whatever it be, Heidl your website is a rare pearl!

I literally can't believe what I'm reading. What is the issue here?! If you're bored of the covers being made here, either just scroll past them and move on with your life, or even better design some different covers. This is a free forum. People can make covers for whatever movie they like. I can't believe people are genuinely complaining! Goodness me. Grow up, guys. :p

Besides, if you go back through the last couple months, you will find only a few Interstellar covers. I challenge someone to go through and count how many there have been in comparison to any other cover, excluding Marvel of you really want to. Seriously, there's really not been that many, and there's been loads of new artwork for new films.

Fingerling
06-03-2015, 06:47 AM
OK OK! Just a false impression then?
Seems like you are a little tense about your work, so I'll don't bother you again. But you have to notice yourself: in the end you take away from the movie (the launcher shuttle).

Again, it was just an opinion. Like you said, it's a free forum. So I freely give my opinion and encourage customizers to take an another direction and post more unexpected artworks.

However, I still think that a special Nolan and a special Marvel threads would leave more space for more inventive and original (and useful?) works.

:)

Thank you, but beware with the words.

I can only speak for myself when I say, that we're not doing these covers to fulfill cover requests (not only). Or to provide custom art for as many soundtracks as possible. We're doing it for the fun of it. For the art itself. Some movies are more popular than others, it's only natural that people want to delve into them. I'd rather see the 20th interstellar work, as long as it's inspirational. Hell, I've made 80 customs for the Hobbit trilogy, just because I wanted to! That's countless of hours I could have spent on other soundtracks, but I felt like working on he Hobbit. But I also love how Junkie pours out one indie score after the other, or Sulley's Iron Man frenzy. Each to their own!

Amanda

I'd love to take care of every soundtrack myself as well. If I could I would do nothing but creating covers all day long. But as I've grown older I realized that time is the most precious good* of all.

Fingerling
06-03-2015, 01:08 PM
Yeah, it's for fun and time is precious. That's why spend days working on 80 customs covers for The Hobbit or Interstellar details make no sense for me.

What the interest to see a painter reworking again and again the same canvas (especially if the picture itself is dull :p)?

Your choices disappointed me, but you guys have the right to do whatever you want. I'll simply like if others talented customizers come here to share differents artworks.

Exactly, exactly, exactly.

This thread was started (by the Goddess herself) for members here to publish their works and learn from other artists. Not to entertain members who can't be bothered to make their own.

Maybe that sounded harsh, but you get what we're all saying I hope. There are no rules here about what we can and can't make and no limit in numbers of covers for one film. Nobody's gonna tell me what I can and can't make. :p

If I make another Interstellar cover, why should that bother you? It's not as if it's somehow preventing other covers for other films being made. I really don't see what the problem is.

Anyway, can we move on now? After all, this thread is for artwork, not arguments. ;)

It's still 2.8, just a loaded version. It's got G'MIC, and other things. I don't know if the official release has that but this one sure does...and you can change the skin of the program and other things...it's just an overall better experience.

I'm willing to bed you'd like it as heard in the film. Wait for the isolated score from the Blu-ray.

Actually, you're right, it works really well in the (amazing) film.
I just didn't like it on album.

100% of the time that's how it works. Film mixes are always vastly superior to their extremely poor OST presentations. That's why I made my Angels & Demons and Oblivion film edits and posted them on here. And more will always be on the way ;)

That's not really fair. They are following their passions, not entertaining you.

It seems to me Fingerlings is just stating his opinion and like someone else mentioned its a free forum and its a feedback after all talking about rarity vs. doing overkill artworks. I guess the same thing applies that when a Zimmer or RCP score is in order, hell it doesn't matter at all how many times the same cover is re done to hell with variety then. Let's go populate this thread then with more of intergalactic awesomeness of this one of a kind, epic, masterpiece for generations and generations to come, the film and score everyone is going gaga about...none other than -Interstellar!!

Shaqfu36, quick question: Did you make a "clean" version of that beautiful Kilar Dracula vinyl cover?

Quick question for those who are doing those vinyl mockups: What software are you using to create those? Like others here, I use GIMP for my image manipulations.

And here are two variations on a score which I would consider to be among my top 10 favorites of all time, Howard Shore's The Cell. I bought this album after being obsessed with the film back when it was released, around 2000. But the CD just sat on my shelf for years. I remember being very distressed by it. It is a unique beast, and honestly I didn't come around to it until I discovered David Cronenberg's Naked Lunch a few years later and absorbed that Shore & Ornette Coleman soundtrack album. There was probably a good week where I only listened to The Cell. Since then, I have also acquired all of the albums which the Master Musicians of Jajouka have released. Their music really stirs a creative emotion in me.

So my basis here was the design work that is happening at Shore's Howe Records label. I love Shore getting his name at the top, and usually the artwork is very good. I like their simplicity. Recently I uncovered this wonderful art piece from The Cell and thought, "Why the hell not?" The original cover for The Cell is not nearly as great as it could've been, especially considering the baroque visual mastery found in the film.

Version 1.1 places the film's logo off-center, like found on Howe's Naked Lunch remaster. This is my preferred version. Version 1.2 centers the logo. Otherwise everything is the same.

And another one for this mini-Howe kick of mine today. A favorite Cronenberg of mine, a favorite Shore score, yet the original cover SUCKS. This amazing piece of art is a print by Jay Shaw (eXistenZ 11 Shaw - 1st (http://expressobeans.com/public/detail.php/139483)) which I cropped and added in the album info, again styled after Howe Records' efforts.

Great Work!

This has to be the worst case of unnecessary image quoting I've ever seen lol. Just quoting one cover would have been enough! Quoting 41 covers just to say two words is verging on the insane. :p

Maybe I'm overreacting, but it does get rather frustrating, particularly on mobile devices, when the page has to load all the images. If you could possibly go back and edit your post so that it's only quoting one or two covers, that would be appreciated! Thank you! :)

You are definitely not overreacting. It's worse than when T-Mann quotes the entire first post of something.

And you're right on point about it being frustrating having the page load on a mobile device. I made the same exact case a long while back and I got bitched at by the owner of this thread. I knew I wasn't in the wrong then, and now I know it even more especially since you feel the same way.

I don't think spoilering is necessarily necessary - just post them all a bit smaller. Heck, I did about the same amount of covers for IA2: The Meltdown not long ago and posted them all without spoilers, but at 200x200 (or less - I can't exactly remember), and nobody complained.

That just switched out the Dutch title for the English one, on the likely sound assumption that Americans don't know who Michiel de Ruyter is (full disclosure: neither did I until I heard of this movie). But I can still use it for my AAC version, so thanks!

My ALAC copy of the score, however, could still use a different cover. I don't much care for the original, which is trying way too hard.

I used to play it back in the day when I had a PS1, and I still have the game, but I've never actually beaten it. I think you would like the music, I'm sure it's on YouTube. Check out some gameplay too, it's pretty cool concept, at least for 2001. Haha.

Some alternatives to the official cover (not that I dislike the official one - I just thought it'd be fun to have a go at some alternates).

I loved this score from the moment I heard it. Like I did with the first movie, I became very familiar with it long before I actually saw the film itself. Mancina has done a splendid job of creating a lighthearted, yet at times very serious, exuberant and thrilling score that has some truly fantastic cues. I would highly recommend giving it a listen even if you haven't seen the film. My favourite tracks are "Main Title", "Propwash", "Training Dusty", Mystery of Blaze/Lightening", "Lightening Storm Fire", "Fire by the Lodge", "Behind Enemy Lines", "Fire Heroes", and "You Had Us Worried".

Particularly "Behind Enemy Lines" and "Fire Heroes" - they make me literally shiver with excitement every time.

So without further ado, here are my alternate covers. Not really anything fantastic, but they were fun to do. The images were very busy.

And if you haven't seen the film yet, I'd personally recommend it. I thought it was a lot better than the first film, and it was even better second time around. It's actually one of my favourite animated films now. :)

How exactly do you mean? Are you wanting to remove text from an image completely? If so, try looking for a textless version of that image first. If you can't find one, you'll need to zoom right in and start editing with a colour-selection toon and a fine pencil.

I find my fonts anywhere online. I just google appropriate terms and see what I can dig up.

This is the image I'm using:

I already cropped out the text at the top, but I also want to get rid of the "Wars are fought by many, history is made by few" and, ideally, the "Directed by Roel Rein" as well.

After which I'd substitute "Original Motion Picture Score by Trevor Morris" or "Music composed by Trevor Morris"---something like that, in the same font.

If you can't find a textless version of that poster (which doesn't seem likely), that looks like an editing job right there. Zoom in and select colours from around the text and start clicking to fill in the writing with the same colours as the storm clouds. Make sense?

If you mean the font as used in the logo on the image you're editing, it certainly looks like a font, as opposed to a handwritten logo (compare each "e" and "i"). But as for where you'd fine it, I've no idea. Try some random internet searches.

This is my favourite version. Great work! As Jason already mentioned, your choice of font is perfect. Re text placement, I'd say move the bottom text a bit further to the left. For my taste, it's too close to the right hand edge. I usually try to make the gap between the edge of a cover and bottom text the same as the gap between the bottom of a cover and bottom text. Equal gaps. Make sense? :p

Also, perhaps try experimenting with making the text bold. That might help the visibility a bit, particularly of "Original Motion Picture Score".

Something more than happened with the conversion.... maybe its corrupted..... iPhone has no problem playing files at 44,000 khz

This is true. The problem starts at 96kHz and higher. For all I know, anyway. 88kHz may even be too much. But I've tried syncing 96kHz files and no iOS device can handle it. Yet iTunes plays the files just fine. I mentioned this in my complete Oblivion edit. That's why I made it in FLAC and not ALAC.

Apple needs to get their shit together. Hopefully with the overhaul of the new music app it'll be fixed in iOS 8.4, or even 9

Thanks Sully. I have one of those awful head colds so my nose, ears, and throat are all stuffed up. Explains why I'm writing this reply at 2:30 A.M. instead of sleeping. I'm so congested I have to sit up every 5 minutes to blow my nose. At least I've spent the last few hours well, I just watched the Tom Hanks film "Cast Away" for the first time. Makes complaining about a cold seem pathetic! :D

That sounds nasty. I hate head colds! If you take my advice, start eating red pepper. That's my immediate go-to the moment I get a cold, and I'm usually better in 48hrs. If I were you, I'd eat half a red pepper now, another half in a couple hours, and so on, maybe four times. Believe it or not, red pepper is much more potent in natural vitamin C than any other fruit or vegetable, including all citrus fruits. Although I think strawberries are pretty similar, so if you don't like red pepper (I personally love it), eat several of those at regular intervals during the day. Trust me, I did an entire research project on this, complete with test tubes and bar graphs. Anyway, health lecture over.

Oh no, not again! Please, people! Stop quoting large amounts of covers!

@JacKc - The point you made about Sergei's JW covers was absolutely fine. I actually agree with you. But it was a very general comment and applied to all of his covers. Therefore, just quoting the title of his post and perhaps one of his covers would have been just fine. There was absolutely no need to quote all 14 covers. Please, can you edit your post to quote just one cover? I did ask Bond to edit his post when he quoted all 41 covers for Edge of Tomorrow, but he never did.

I'm not a designer, so I can not please everyone.
I'm just a user with limited knowledge of "Photoshop".
And in my opinion in coverings to "the Jurassic World" everything is ideal.
If I don't like the end result, I will better remake, or I will simply throw.

Here is formerly fat guy, offering his manliest glare to the TMZ guy whose set-invasion skillz are totally bumming him out. With him is his bro, who has spotted a OMFG COTTON CANDY!

Jurassic World, the new totally bro western thriller comedy about a wannabe cowboy, the formerly fat guy from Parks and Rec, and his faithful assistant/bro, Armcandy, who kick ass for a solid two hours before realizing that they were perfect for each other after all.

Seriously guys stop quoting a ton of full size images. It is very uncool.

Sergei, you're kinda sorta a designer if you made these but you're right, if it makes sense to you that this font in this style fits the rest then its your cover. However, keep in mind that everything can be improved.

When I first saw "red pepper" I was thinking you meant something spicy (which is NOT my thing at all). But I take you mean a red bell pepper, right? I don't LOVE peppers, but I don't dislike them either. Strawberries however, are one of my favorites! So maybe I'll hop out to the store for a bunch of those... I've already been taking copious ammounts of Vitamin C in solo form, but I'm sure it's not as effective as when it's fresh...

As far as Cast Away, I would recommend it as long as you can enjoy a movie that has a slow burn and is VERY long. It doesn't ever get boring, but it is in fact VERY long. Tom Hanks is superb, but that shouldn't be a surprise.

Borgias Season 1 -
Pillars of the Earth Season 1 -
Tudors Season 1 -
Tudors Season 2 -
Tudors Season 3 -
Tudors Season 4 -

Thank you so much in advance, it would be cool if you could add the original backgrounds of the DVD covers, like in the Tudors Season 4 image, for the images that I prefer. :)

Man, this thread is awesome, could browse for hours here.

Would like to make a request fro Season 5 of Game of Thrones (the original cover is not good at all)
I remember getting some great covers from the other season, can't remember who made them, but they were the sigils of the houses sort of like embroided. First was Stark, then Baratehon then Lannisters then a yellow sigil I forgot, Tyrells I think
Anyways, any cover for Season 5 will probably be better than the original

I'll try and check it out sometime. :)

Re vitamin C - the stuff you get in the pills, etc, is synthesised stuff. Not natural at all. It's basically just ascorbic acid. And ascorbic acid is only one part of the whole vitamin. A vitamin is not just one substance - it's a whole host of substances working together. The ascorbic acid helps to protect the other parts of the vitamin from oxidation. So when you take ascorbic acid under the name "vitamin C" it's mislabeled. It is FAR more beneficial to eat it in its naturally occurring form with all the necessary parts to function as it should. I can send you some brief work I did on it if you're interested.

So yes, I meant bell pepper lol. You go buy some strawberries and get 'em down you. :)

*Ahem!* Chemistry lesson over. Go back to cover-making, everyone!

Thoughts? Should I include text, and if so, what? Do the logos stay or go?

I very much like the minimal approach, though i find it hard to see what's going on. I've never played the games (i'm only here for the music), that's why those silhouettes don't mean anything to me. I dunno, maybe try something a tad less abstract? Something like this perhaps: Mass Effect Minimalist Poster by Blind-Pixel777 on DeviantArt (http://fav.me/d5gmeq4) if you can find/create similar graphics.

Also, the placement of the logos in the corner is a good idea. However, i'd stick to one corner. Put them all in the bottom right, or all in the bottom left. Becuase, if you put the 3 covers side by side, your current covers look really weird.

And finally (and i'm really nitpicky now), try the [1] logo without the scratches. This way, it creates a nicer series: [1] no scratches. [2] scratches only on the 2. [3] scratches on the 3 and the background square. Progression, you know? ;)

Damn, Sully beat me to it with my request :P

Yeah I just love how real (well, not really), and beautiful those covers look and would love to have them in my iTunes.

Did anyone see my post about the Jaws covers? I wanted covers using these DVD covers or if possible the source.

These images are very hard to use, due to their shape. There is no way to fit the height of these covers into a square. I've been looking for alternative shape images, but there aren't that many.

Is this ok?

I'd like some jaws covers without the bloody damn fish. like this one for jaws itself...

There is a lot more to at least the first two movies than the shark, really. Which is why 3 and 4 sucked. It was all shark and no story...

@Amanda - Are you wanting OMPS, CMPS, OS, CS or what?

For Amanda

I went with OMPS for now.
What do you think? If you like them, I can try similar ones for the other three films.

Nice choice of fonts/colours on those Insidious 3 covers, Sergei. Not that I'm into horror in the slightest. :p

Thanks! :)

Re your suggestion - unfortunately that wouldn't work, as I'd have to push the poster down to make space above Chrissie and that would get rid of most of the shark's face at the bottom. It would look terrible. :/
